Realistic or Modern Don’t Tell Me to Calm Down

Maxs nurse had gone in to check on her for the second time that morning already, going over everything and sighing a little at the lack of visitors she was receiving, making a note to call her emergency contact to give them an update shortly when she had to pause. Her breathing was off and on further inspection so was her heartbeat, already ringing it in as a priority doctor check when the alarms went off that her blood pressure had plummeted and her heart was giving out. Immediately changing it to a code blue alarm and shook her head, beginning cpr. “No sweetie we can’t lose you yet, not after I met your little girl when they brought you in.” She muttered, “she was doing fine and suddenly everything stopped, there’s gotta be bleeding somewhere.” She told the doctor soon as he got in there.

Jamie sat next to Eddie after sound check, having made sure to get them both a sandwich but he stayed quiet, just being company for his friend for now. Just to keep an eye on him.

Eddie took a deep breath as he ate his sandwhich watching his friend some "I want to do a song for her tonight....she always wanted me to do a song for her." He said quietly taking a deep breath "I went through my voicemails, found one from right before her crash. She wanted to come on your with us." He explained before letting a few tears fall.

The doctor rushed in after hearing the Code Blue ring over the speakers. He rushed into the room looking her over and nodded some "Get me prepped for surgery immediately with her. Its probably her lung. Call her emergency contacts immediately." He explained before grabbing more nurses and rushing Max into the OR.

Clay was already stressed from the fact he’d refused a job. Knowing he’d get an earful but he wasn’t going to risk a single thing while out on bail this time. He just wanted to make sure lilah was okay and that he got to spend as much time with her as possible before his trial. By the time his phone started ringing while they were out back on jacks play set he had for Charlotte he was on his third cigarette and it didn’t seem to be helping. “Hello?”

Jamie just nodded slowly. “Alright… you speak to farm yet today? You know none of us would think anything of it if you didn’t want to play tonight. We can still do a song for her but I … Ed this is a lot to ask of you for the first birthday after everything.” He mumbled.

The nurse on the other end gave a silent thank you when Clay finally answered his phone. "Hi, Mr.Cardenas? We need you to come down to the hospital immediately. Your wife has been rushed into emergency surgery, they'll unsure of her chances at this point in time." She explained as calmly as she could to him.

Eddie frowned deeply giving a small nod "But I can't risk you guys getting the blow back either....this what supports your families too." He said before putting his head in his hand crying softly "I just want my daughter back man..."

Jamie snorted a little. “Ed you still treat this like a damn corporate job and I don’t know why. Few fans might be pissed but fuck em. You need the rest on a day like today.” He told him frowning

He frowned and just nodded slowly. “I’ll be there soon as I can.” He assured them which ended up being much later on in the afternoon once lilah had gone with Charlotte and jacks wife tess so he could get down there

Eddie gave a nod and took a shaky breath "You know I tried calling her this morning? I used to always call and sing her happy birthday in the morning....but then I remembered.." he admitted before standing up "I uh...I gotta go talk with Carmen." He said quietly just wanting to hear her voice.

The nurse frowned deeply when she saw Clayton come in late into the afternoon "She has been moved to our intensive care area. Her heart nearly stopped but we caught her in time." She explained as she walked him to the room "She had an internal bleed in her lung, they repaired the area and it looks like your baby is still doing okay thankfully as well. With her blood pressure as low as it was though....there may be developmental issues, we won't know until they are a bit bigger though."

Carmen was laying in bed again with Stella curled up next to her and reached for the phone when it rang. “Hey…. How you doing?” She asked quietly.

He frowned, taking all of it in while he made his way down there, worried sick about whether she would get better before he had to go away again or not, just wanting things to go back to how they were before he’d tried to help a random stranger.

Eddie took a shaky breath as he heard her voice before he broke down "I can't do this....I gotta come home. I can't do it today." He said down the line trying to take deep breaths to calm himself down "I should have been a better Dad...I just miss her so much."

It was another 2 months before Max was completely stable and being brought out of her coma. It took her a day to come aroumd but she finally opened her eyes and found an empty room completely confused as to what had happened.

She frowned a little and sat up. “Babe don’t do this to yourself. She loved you so much. Hell she wanted me out the picture and you home all the time. You always were her favourite from the day she was born.” She mumbled, trying to hold the tears back. “You’ll be in Indy next week. Hold off on coming home til then. You’re almost at the finish line.” She coaxed gently.

Lilah was holding onto Jack as he carried her into the room with her mom, holding on tight to her goldfish crackers but soon forgot about them seeing her mom was awake now.

Eddie cried softly down the phone and took a shaky breath "I found a voicemail....right before she....right before it happened of her asking me to come on tour for the summer...I should have fucking answered the call." He whimpered feeling completely broken at this point.

Max looked over at the door when she saw it open and smiled widely seeing her daughter "Lilah.." she said in a hoarse voice as she did her best to reach out for her.

She frowned again, shaking her head "You wanna go see her when you get here next week? It's been helping me to do that... Talking to her." She mumbled, rubbing at her face a little "Ed honey I gotta go, the girls are screaming downstairs... Get some rest for me, make sure you eat and come home safe. We'll see you when you get to Indy." She promised him.

Jack set her down, making sure she was being careful while he called for a nurse "Hey, good to see you awake... Just take it easy they're gonna come check on you in a minute." He smiled some at her.

Eddie relaxed a little bit and gave a small nod "Alright, I'll call you later." He said softly before hanging up the phone and going to try and calm himself doen to get on with the show

Max smiled softly as Lilah cuddled her mucj slender figure "What...what happener?" She asked Jack as she kept her eyes on Lilah not even noticing her small baby bump.

He frowned and shook his head "You weren't well." HE mumbled, not wanting to go into detail with Lilah right there "Clay was here. Every day while he was out on bail. The sentencing was last week though. Rushed the whole thing through because he took a guilty plea." He mumbled, "Gave him ten years. He wouldn't take the deal." He told her frowning

Carmen got up, heading downstairs in a bad mood from the day already and stepped into the kitchen to find the girls and Lucas all arguing "What the fuck is going on in here?!" She snapped at them, "If it's about food I don't wanna hear it. I told you last week that you get hungry on this day there's money on the side to get yourselves pizza or tacos or whatever. You wanna go somewhere you call your nanna. I don't need to hear arguing either so you can pack it in right now or you can go to your rooms separately and stay in there all day." She told them frowning. "Unless Lucas is having a seizure I don't wanna hear about it!" She yelled at them.

Max frowned deeply and took a shaly breath letting a few tears fall "10 years?" She asked quietly finally looking over at Jack letting a few tears fall "Could....could you get me some water?" She asked quietly

Jack came out of his room for the first time that day when he heard his mother's yelling. He shook his head some and moved to take take his mom back. He went back to the kids and gave a heavy sigh "What are we fighting about huh?"

Maya was sat at the table with her arms crossed, staring at the floor "You're not our Dad." She muttered. "Mom doesn't need to yell at us likke that either." She frowned while Grace was looking in the fridge for her juice she'd got from the corner store yesterday after her dentist appointment. Lucas was seething at the kitchen counter though, getting a treat out for Stella, "Mom wouldn't be yelling at us if that asshole wasn't stressing her out" He spat. "And no Grace I didn't take your juice." He muttered

He nodded and frowned "Should be out a lot sooner on good behaviour." He told her, going to get her some water, coming back with her nurse "Hey Lilah you gotta go back home kiddo, Tess has dinner ready for you." He told her, letting her say bye to her mom first, "I'll be back in twenty." He promised Max, taking Lilah to drop her off before coming back to be able to explain everything to Max.

Jack frowned deeply and shook his head "I may not be your dad but I'm your older brother." He said seriously to Maya before glaring at Luke "Dad isn't the one fucking stressing Mom out right now! Right now its her kid's fighting when she is hurting greatly and none of them seeming to fucking care about it! We're all hurting, but Mom and Dad are hurting thr worst right now! Yet you guys are here screaming and arguing over stupid shit!"

Max frowned deeply as Jack came back later and explained what happened "Jack...I can't stay here. I have to take Lilah and leave." He whispered letting a few more tears fall.

He shook his head. “Well you can’t go anywhere for a little while anyway. But you’re safer at home. Clay spoke to them. The deal he was makinf had nothing to do with our people. They jumped to conclusions and they’ve faced the consequences for that. But I swear if you leave him now after everything he’s done for you and you take likah away from him I wil help him find you when he gets out and turn a blind eye to how he reacts about it.” He told her seriously. “You’re like a sister to me max but the way you’ve treated someone who’s given you the world is appalling.” He muttered.

Lucas glared at him and shoved past him on his way back upstairs, “dad has no fucking right to be upset. It’s not like he cared enough before to be home.” He muttered, slamming his door shut.

Vanessa was the next person to see Eddie, much later into the evening when all the others had gone on stage, frowning when she opened the door to see her ex boyfriend stood there. “Edward? What are you doing here?” She asked, but let him in seeing the state of him.

Max frowned deeply and shook her head softly "I'm not getting into this with you Jack." She muttered not wanting to argue right after she had woken up. She gave a heavy sigh as he sat beside her afterwards and finally noticed the small bump she had forming "Its too late..." she whispered

Eddie took a shaky breath watching his ex for a moment "I....I need something to calm myself....nothing hard...just a joint or something." He said quietly knowing he needed to get on stage but he couldn't with his nerves as fried as they were.

She frowned and pulled him into the house gently. “Come sit down.” She coaxed, getting him to her couch. “I got some special k but nothing else right now. Not anything else you would want. Come sit down and let it wash you away.” She murmured. She knew he’d got back with his ex. She wasn’t interested in him anymore anyway but she could make sure he was safe at least.

He shook his head and sighed quietly. “I’ll bring lilah over tomorrow. See you later.” He muttered and headed out, disappointed in her.

Eddie took a shaky breath and shook his head some "No....no I made a promise to stay clean of that shit.." he said as he went to get up and try to leave before he got himself into even further trouble.

Max frowned deeply but gave a small nod before he left her there. She stared at the wall as she tried to wrap her head around things after being out for two months.

She frowned, taking his hand "Ed... I know you're not in your right head space right now... Why don't you at least stay here for now? I don't like letting you free when you're like this." She told him quietly. Out of all the women he'd dated since the divorce she was the one who thought she was gonna marry him. Not for the money or the fame but for him. That was until they'd been in bed one night, one of the few that they were totally sober and he called her Carmen. Twice. She knew from that point he was never truly moved on from her.

Clay had gone to the phones to call the hospital again, rubbing at his face and hoping for better news while he waited for the nurses to answer, "Hey Lizzie, it's Clay again, any change or news on my wife?" He asked the girl the same way he had at least twice a day since he'd gone inside.

Eddie took a shaky breath before he nodded softly and sat back down with her "My daughter died....today would have been her birthday.." he said quietly as he stared at the floor.

Lizzie gave a small sigh as she heard Clay's voice "She woke up today. Your daughter has seen her, but she is alone now." She explained quietly to him

She sighed quietly going to get him a drink "I know, I heard about it in the tabloids." She mumbled, handing him the glass then went to get out her stash in case he wanted it.

He smiled and nodded "That's good to hear... Any chance I could talk to her? Or maybe tomorrow?" He asked hopeful, just wanting to speak to her even if it was just for five minutes.

Eddie gave a small nod and took a deep breath falling quiet again as he thought everything over. He took a look at the special K as she placed it on the table and quickly looked away trying to fight every urge he had to take it.

Lizzie gave a small nod and sighed "I think tomorrow would be better, I'll make sure to bring her the phone on your first call." She said sincerely to him before having to let him go.

She frowned, moving to stand behind him, massaging his shoulders gently, "Do what you like." She muttered, going upstairs to get changed into comfy clothes having been about to start winding down for the evening anyway.

Carmen had tried to call Eddie again several times but it kept going through to voicemail and it was starting to worry her, waiting til they would be finished with the show and called Jamie instead "Hey, hope it all went well.... Did Ed go on? Is he there by chance?" She asked him quietly.

He thanked her repeatedly and hung up when he was told to, heading back to his cell once recess was over, laying back on the bunk and just thinking about his girls, worrying about what, if anything, was even gonna be waiting for him on the other side of all of this
