The immense glass panels that served at the only walls to the immaculate structure glittered in the fresh summer sunlight. Tobias craned his neck to try and see the top of the building, where the flag of Britain waved lazily in a breeze.
“Look at this place Nik!” He exclaimed in an excited voice. “And its filled with wonders we can only imagine!”
Behind them a gentle thrum of voices and the sounds of carriages drawing up the gravel path mixed into a jovial background noise. The entire place was brimming with life and excitement.
Nikolai stood grimly behind the boy, arms crossed and his usual scowl fixed determinedly on his face. “Too many people.” He said gruffly, his thick Russian accent curving the words off his tongue.
Tobias sighed. “One of the greatest events in our era and you can’t think of anything else?”
The broad man raised an eyebrow. “Zer is nothing else to think about, my job is very simple, keep young Fairfax boy out of trouble…and wit ze amount you find, zat takes up most in from my head.”
Fair, Tobias thought. He did have a knack for finding trouble, but he was willing to argue that half the time it was trouble that managed to find him.
“Let’s go inside!”
Tobias had bought tickets for the both of them, but he noted that security was lax as the guards were also gawking in wonder at many of the things inside the main hall. Tobias couldn’t blame them! Above wood and paper models of would-be flying machines swung from thin wires, a miniature airship whirred lazily about the ceiling, holding itself up by its puffy, hydrogen gas bag. And on the thing red carpet that stretched from wall to wall? Magnificent things of every shape and size. There was a brass-plated machine with a glass coil between two rods and when a button was pressed the coil lit up with electricity, the man who went to turn it off was given a bad static shock and Tobias laughed, much to the disapproval of Nikolai. There were model weapons and real weapons, new forms of transport and just beyond the inventions lay a hall with towering ancient statues.
“They’ve obviously been brought from every corner of the known world.” Tobias remarked appreciatively. Nikolai seemed disinterested.
“Think about it, there were many different cultures that worshipped multiple deities to better explain the world around them.”
“Heathens.” Nik said stiffly.
Tobias sighed again, “You’re about as much fun as a goat with a hernia.” He leaned back against the wheel a real steam engine prototype and suddenly he heard an unfortunate snap.
The chocks that kept the machine in place on its ramp-like pedestal were not set properly and one popped free of the front wheels. Tobias moved with the engine for a moment as it slowly crawled forward, then jumped back in surprise as the entire thing jarred and began rolling toward the ancient artifacts.
Tobias and Nikolai watched in horror as the machine picked up speed. There were screams and shouts from the guests as the great iron beast careened into three tall stone tablets, toppling all of them in a great cloud of dust and chipped stone.
Tobias stood, rooted in place. “Oh…bother.”

" Ye sure it works? " the man asked with disbelief as he inspected the small, round gadget in his hand. The clock like device seemed to move in a rather erratic way, its arms going faster than a normal device would. Small puffs of steam emerged from the side of the trinket and the man raised his eyebrow to meet the eyes of his mysterious dealer.
" I can assure you, only the best, latest steam based technology can make such wonders. " the young girl in the cloak replied " It might seem different but it has a reason: it is not only a clock, it is a healthcare device as well! "
" Is that now? "
" Of course, noble sir. " the girl nodded, poking the clock which in turn whirred and ejected a small white pill from its bottom " It is advanced technology and is super rare - you are perhaps the first lucky buyer to see something like that! "
The man was baffled and his face lightened up.
" Deal, Missy! " he said, giving the girl some money before he trotted away cheerfully. The girl chuckled as she unveiled her head, her orange eyes fixating on the departing fool. It was almost too easy to play with simpletons like these people, the fact that they were enthralled by the new discoveries of the world fair and the resurgence of these... beliefs made it so that she could sell her toys for a decent sum of money. Looking in her bag Fish noticed that she barely had any of these fake watches left so she decided to release a heavy sigh and move on. She still had a lot of work to do if she was to get the money to travel as far from England as it was possible.
Carefully paying attention to hide her robotic arm Fish began strolling down the street towards the biggest clump of people. It was a rather hot and sunny day yet still most people were out here, waiting for some kind of miracle to happen, visiting some sort of fair or exhibition she heard words about on the street. It was an interesting concept to meet and trick people like these - usually she did not want to trifle with those she found uninteresting or not entertaining but business was not going too well. With authorities catching up with her and people being warned about cheaters and liars it was increasingly difficult for her to actually find an audience stupid enough to sell her fake, malfunctioning wares to... fortunately this grandious event granted her an opportunity to set things right... and thus she decided to head into the maw of the beast... and enter the grand palace-looking building.
Fish almost laughed out loud when she realized how absentminded the guards were. Though she actually managed to steal one ticket from one noble she found it actually being useless since the pompous, lazy guards paid her no mind either way. The grey haired girl was able to blend into the crowd without any difficulties, people being far too busy to watch out for a young thief like her. Whilst she searched for low hanging pockets to pick Fish actually decided to look around - not only to devise an escape strategy but to see what this thing was all about. It appeared that many countries and many cultures actually contributed to this exhibition, there were a lot of relics and inventions from various places all over the massive room. Fish actually was impressed with this gallery-like display and she whistled happily, stealing some goods in the process as she marveled in the beauty of it all... that is, until she heard a suspicious noise.
The sound of rumble was louder than the small chatter of people who actually fell silent and turned around to see what was going on. Fish's eyes widened as she saw some sort of machine breaking loose and racing towards precious artifacts. She stared at the place where the rogue invention was stationed and noticed a rather young looking, elegant man with a body guard. Her disgust being beaten by her curiosity she decided not to move until the inevitable crash occurred. The people screamed and slight panic ensued... a perfect opportunity for her to exploit.
" Thanks, clumsy boy. " she smiled to herself as she readied herself, throwing the small sack of fake watches on the ground to fully ready herself. She could care less about the artifacts and the machine at this point - all that mattered is that the young boy actually granted her an opportunity for her to try and sneak up to the wealthy looking noble in the chaos to see if she could hit the jackpot.
Reaching in her clothes she pulled out a mini, steam-grenade, hurling it in the middle of the commotion. As the strange, concealing steam cloud emerged so did the panic intensify in the room, granting her a clear passage towards the strange pair.
Olivia stood by, searching through the crowd. Her father, somewhat insistently, had suggested she look for people of an important stature and try to coerce them into a conversation which would then direct them to some sort of business deal that her family "desperately needed". New inventions seemed to confront her every step she took, and if one person wasn't trying to impress some new mechanical genious upon her, then somebody else would certainly be trying to get her attention to do exactly that.
The crowd had been something she'd been anticipating, the noise, however, she had not prepared for. It wasn't exactly deafening, but it was certainly far from quiet. There didn't seem to be a single inch of space that escaped from the crowd's bewilderment and wonder. Out of the corner of her eye, Olivia noticed a separate hall containing ancient artifacts and near that were exhibitions of exotic, tropical plants from the far away worlds of Asia and Africa. She approached these more natural exhibitions curiously; England was home to common plants that were found across the entire world and Finland was often just blanketed with snow and had very little colour. These organisms seemed to be the antithesis of that, seeming to entertain every single hew and shade that Olivia could think of.
As she marveled over a beautifully patterned and vibrant flower, labelled The Belgian Crown, a voice overcame the rest of the crowd, "Wondrous isn't it?"
Olivia looked over her right shoulder, nothing more than a momentary glance, before she turned her attention back to natural exhibits in front of her. Mentally she sighed before she spoke, her voice still slightly accented from her home country, "Yes, some would say that this is a golden age for exploration and innovation."
The man was short, only slightly taller than Olivia, and he appeared to be at least in his mid to late thirties. She took note of the band of slightly lighter skin on his right ring finger; this wasn't exactly a person the young lady wanted to speak to.
"That it is. Quite perceptive aren't you? What's your name, my dear?"
Olivia scoffed, tempted to elbow him in the gut in response. Luckily, she didn't have to resort to violence.
A noise started growing nearby. At first, Olivia thought it was some kind of beast from a far away land, instead it was a mechanical invention that had some how gotten loose. A large part of the crowd went into commotion, screaming, yelling and in general just causing chaos. The man, distracted, turned to look at the loud cacophony that only intensified when a cloud of steam emerged in the middle of the crowd. Olivia took her chance, moving away from the man and into the outskirts of the crowd, making sure to stay out of the machine's way. She noticed the exhibit where it had come from; two individuals stood there. A thought passed through her head, and she started navigating the crowd to get to them; it would have been rude of her not to thank her saviours.
The sun was barely over the horizon at this point but a certain old and normally abandoned warehouse was almost completely filled with rowdy men and a few woman. Some complaining about being up so early, others drinking already, while the rest chatted/shouted/conversed with one another. It was a rather good time all in all even if the building wasn't meant for what they were using it for. Heavily doubt whoever made this old warehouse wanted it to be used by a group of thieves...well organized thieves. But initial intentions didn't matter to the relatively large group. They had claimed the building for themselves, which was obvious to anyone seeing as tables, chairs and food that was set about the room. The conversations continued for a time until a certain male got tired of waiting for more people, they had to get things ready. No way in hell he was letting his guild miss a day like today. If people were late boo ho, he gave people the time they were suppose to be here, not his damn fault if they decided to not put the guild first. The black haired young adult let a sigh leave him before he rolled his neck. After a moment of silence he slammed his fist on the table and stood up.
"Okay you assholes! Listen up!" He shouted loudly making the room fall silent very soon, anyone that spoke after that received a death glare. Once they were all quiet Alex gave a nod and moved to stand on the table so everyone in the room could see him. "You all know what day it is today!" He shouted with a smirk on his face. "Today we are going to get rich as fuck! We all know about exhibition that's going to be happening later in the day! Well sadly we ruffians didn't get invited to the party~ So.... I decided if we aren't invited might as well crash the party anyway!" Several chuckles left many of the members and some muttered to one another. "I know I know, why would they accept us? Won't we be found right away? Get our hands cut off? All that grand shit we get if we get caught~ Well guess what! I took the liberty to get several costumes for you sewer rats! Today you are going to have your chance to pose as some noble shit face!" After said that he pointed to two crates that he had brought in when he first arrived. "In there, are outfits I....acquired~ I will select several of you to put them on and come with me!" He shouted as he looked over the crowd with his one good eye. He saw how many seemed excited, others worried, the rest unsure. "For this job only those that not only have good pickpocketing and lying skill will be needed, but I will also be calling on those who I think can pass off as a noble! Meaning if you swear like no tomorrow and have no manner about ya...well you aint going to be coming along!"
More muttering went around and some side in defeat knowing they wouldn't be chosen, and they were right. The members of his guild were filled with different skills, but only the ones he told them about where needed for this. "If I call your name go to the creates! Simons, Griff, Drake, Lucy, Sophia..." And with that Alex started to shout out the names of the people he wanted till he got up to twenty men and woman. "Perfect! You are the ones that are going with me to the exhibition! Take what fits out of the creates, they should work pretty well on ya, I did have to eyeball it a bit. After you get ready we are going to be heading out!" Once he gave this order he looked around at everyone and grinned widely. "I hope you asses are starving, because if everything goes right today... WE SHALL FEAST!!!" Raising a fist in the air the crowd lost it, everyone started to cheer while the others went to get their clothing on so they could go. Smiling broadly at the reaction of the guild he stepped off the table and moved over to the people he was brining with him who now all were at the create.
"Listen up, don't bring any weapons unless you know you can hide them. If you get found, run. Just run and go to one of the other bases got it? Like usual don't say a word about anyone till we at all here. Anyone that gets more than set amount.... Well you can keep the extra. Now don't just stand there get ready, we got a party to attend~" With that hum he moved away from the group and went to his own knapsack. Taking his hatchet off and putting it down he grabbed his chain and rather than put it away... Well he wrapped it around his torso and waist to keep it well hidden, he of course kept his divided up staff in his boots. Switching his usual old warn eye patch, he placed on a fancier eye patch on that had a nice design and put a rich coat over his vest and dress shirt. Patting down his hair some he looked more like a noble than one would expect from him. "Perfect~" He whispered as he touched his own face while looking at a reflection using a puddle of water. "Though...its me so what was I expecting???" Chuckling to himself he moved to the front of the ware house and waited. Soon the rest of the crew was down and standing by ready to leave. Once they were all here he nodded and looked at the remaining thieves that weren't going. "You guys go about your day like usual! Still do your jobs and don't even think about getting lazy on me! This evening when the sun set meet back at our main base... We will be sharing spoils and there we will see if we are going to be full tonight or not! Anthony! You are in charge till I get back!"
With that another cheer went through the crowd as they wished the group luck. Fixing his glove Alex looked at the 20 people with him. "Lets go shall we? Don't want to miss the party~"
Alex had arrived at the entrance of the treasure trove and he couldn't help but smile at the possibility of what they could snag here. He had snatched several tickets for this grand event, but that was meant for the less stealthily of the group. He was going to enter without one, though he could tell that eating cake would be harder than entering this event. The members of his group had long since left to go in their own areas and he was alone. Taking a breath and rolling his neck he adjusted his posture a bit he copied the men and woman around him. His eyes landed on a woman that was about to enter and when they did he was by her side in a second."Good day beautiful madam, how fair you this fine day?"He asked with a kind smile on his face. The woman was obviously surprised by the sudden appearance of the young man, however after a small laugh to push away her surprise she decided to be so kind to grace him with her words.
"Oh my, I am fairing well, thank you for asking. You are here for the event as well I take it?"
A smile, a kind one and very inviting graced Alex's lips. "Yes, I don't think I could avoid coming here even if I wanted to. Only a madman would not want to attend the festivities here. Apologizes for asking but why is a fair woman like you alone? Surely you have a husband or brother that can keep you company do you not? As grand of an event as this is...well certainly can be lonely without a partner or two with you."
"Hm? Oh... Yes well, my husband sadly couldn't make it today, far too busy it seems with merchant talk. Never lets me in on it, so I decided not to let him in on the fact I will be coming here without him." The woman said with a hmph to her words.
Chuckling a bit Alex nodded. "I see, an eye for an eye? He didn't let you in on something, its only fair you didn't let him on something that concerns you."
"Exactly! I will bring him a thing or two when I return but until then he can bore himself at his meetings without me."
"I fully understand my lady. Would you care for some company? I am alone here as well and I hear experiencing new things is best with someone by your side stranger or otherwise."
The woman looked at Alex for a moment before smiling. "I have no qualms with this, a day like this would be a bit dull when one is on their own."
Alex gave a nod at this and took her arm in his before he walked to the entrance with her. The woman handed her ticket to the worker but when it came to Alex's ticket he paid for it...after he had snatched the woman's wallet without her knowing. Taking some cash from the other he paid for his ticket and with that the two entered the grand event. Alex thought about ditching the woman right off the bat, but found she was great cover as no one seem to suspect anything was wary with the couple. However after nabbing a few wallets, he got bored of her talk, and the slow movement so he moved his arm from her grasp and turned to leave.
"Hm? Oh are we moving on?" The woman asked as she looked at Alex.
Alex looked behind him at the woman. "We aren't doing anything, I'm bored so I will be heading off now. Due have a nice day noble whore." He said with a smile though mumbled the last words under his breath as he walked off leaving a confused woman behind. He continued to look around and paying semi attention to the things around him. His main focus was on the guards and on his targets. So many men would find their money gone and several woman would soon notice that gems they had adorned themselves with may be....misplaced. Alex may or may not have done anything to cause these odd disappearance, if he did well he made no sign to give away his actions. Being the clever person he was he didn't keep a tone of wallets on him, rather he would empty a wallet and toss it while stuffing the cash in one wallet. So rather than have a ton of wallets on him he had one really stuffed wallet. Any gems he stole would be hidden on his sleeve as if a bracelet or in his boots. Depends on how much room he had.
Things were going well and he couldn't help but grin happily as he quickly and quietly hide a diamond necklace up his sleeve. 'We are going to eat like no tomorrow~~~~' As he walked he came to a stop as he entered another room. He surveyed the room debating who his targets should be and how many he should go for before leaving to another room. As he watched he raised a brow at a young girl that seemed to be doing the same job he and his crew were doing. 'Hm? Whats that twerp doing.' He glared at her a bit feeling like she was helping herself to a meal he had claimed a long time ago. He was going to approach her and likely steal what he could from the girl to see how much she was actually able to take, but before he could... His attention was taken by a train...in the middle of the room that wasn't stationary. His eyes went a bit wide as he watched the nobles shriek and run for it as the train flew by before crashing into some slabs of whatever. At this sight Alex's eyes went wide with pure mirth. 'Can this day get any better!??!??' He wondered as he rushed over to the wreckage.
"Are you okay!?" He exclaimed just to see the guise of going over there to help. He moved by a woman and helped her up as she shook in fear and did the same with another and then a man as well. He moved like light but he didn't seem to rush his movements. It almost seemed like he was honestly worried for these peoples well being. Though of course that wasn't case, as later these sods would notice they no longer had money or anything of valuable on them. After he took what he could and hid it on him he quickly moved away as the guards came. "That train rushed out of no where! Who in the hell made that display! I was almost killed!" He spat at a guard, the guard not wanting to deal with the anger of a 'noble' quickly moved past him and went to help the people that may have been injured. Smirking at this he moved back a bit to go back in the crowd before he could be considered suspicious. As he moved back he looked at the two men that ruined the display and gave them a wink before he turned his back to them.

The wood door creaked slowly open as a tanned, rather dirty fellow made his way into a comfortable cabin many call home along with a moderate breeze. He was carrying nothing, but an empty rifle and the few torn pieces of clothing he normally wears. He leaned the rifle on the closest wall he could, causing a few clacking noises to emit from the rifle. His shoulders did stretched circle before hollering, "Jameson, I'm back." This tanned man plopped down on a nearby bench, waiting for Jameson's appearance, and sure enough, only a few moments after his call, Jameson had walked out of a hallway. He was dressed in the fashionable hat and darkened button up shirt; though, for being a hunter, Jameson was rather skinny. Perhaps that was the use of the new age rifle hunting's doing.
"No luck again, Harmerti?" Jameson asked as the walked toward a desk covered in papers containing notes of each hunting club members kills, for the sake of giving income respectively. Harmerti shook his head before he rubbed his eyes, exhausted from his failure. Jameson nodded and began to write the result of Harmerti's disappointing hunt. A sudden loud noise began to come from the opposite end of the cabin, becoming louder and louder as time had passed. It sounded as though someone had just struck gold...or perhaps just struck his foot. Both Jameson and Harmerti were startled by this, more so for Harmerti as he knew this noise unfortunately well. Another man had peered his head around the corner of the hallway, this man wearing practically the same clothing as Jameson, but being physically the opposite of Jameson and Harmerti. This man was a little on the hefty side of things and had a messy mustache to go with it.
"Jameson, that's four days he brought back nothing! I told you he's no good." The hefty man had waddled his way toward Jameson, massaging his foot every few steps, and upon reaching him, placed his hand on Jameson's shoulders. "Oh and fix those bloody floors. That was the second time today I hit my shoe on a board."
Jameson facepalmed and sighed. "Charles, the boy had gotten more foxes and birds in his three day trial than you have the last month. Four days of nothing isn't much." Jameson looked down at Charles' foot and huffed, "As for the floors, pick up your feet. You walk as if you have weights on them."
Charles had grabbed and wobbled his protruding belly. "I do." He had moved around to the other side of Jameson, to avoid Harmerti reading his lips. Speaking quietly, he said, "You know..., since recruiting this Egyptian, the other clubs have been mocking me. This boy is a curse, I tell you. I haven't even seen a fox around these part for weeks. It's like they are avoiding him like a plague."
Jameson looked over at Harmerti, who was quietly twiddling his thumbs, before looking at Charles again, whispering, "The foxes are gone because we have hunted them so much. As for Harmerti, I do not care for your political bias, or those of other clubs for that matter. He had brought us more fox hides than any other club could have ever achieved alone. I see him as a blessing, more so than anything else." Jameson returned to his accounting, "He isn't leaving this club. That's final."
Charles reared his head with a fit of anger. "As you wish, Jamie. You'll see soon the error of your ways. I promise you."
Jameson's face began to wrinkle, nose pulled upwards, and eyebrows narrowed. "Go back to your quarters, Charles. I don't need your prejudice preaching. And do not call me 'Jamie.'" Charles had done so, though stomping a little louder than before. Jameson had pulled open a cupboard and placed Harmerti's file in it. He headed back toward Harmerti, sitting next to him. "So hows Ra doing?"
Harmerti had looked up toward Jameson quickly, "He's fine..., but how'd you know about him?"
Jameson laughed, "It's hard to miss a loud falcon when you try to visit someone's home. I heard you call something Ra? I just assumed that was it. Is this how you've been hunting so well?"
Harmerti shook his head and grabbed a little medallion around his neck to show Jameson. "He helps, sure, but I'd like to think this little thing helps me as well."
Jameson nodded, though he was confused on what it was. "I see." There was a few seconds pause before Jameson pulled something out of his coat pocket and said, "The reason I had sat next to you was to give you an advance of your allowance," he held out the money for Harmerti. "The foxes need some time to recover, so use this spare time for a little break. In fact, there is the World Expo you can visit. I heard it's a beautiful place to visit," Jameson smiled. Take some time off for yourself now, Harmerti. I can take care of Ra while you are away. I have some clothes you could wear as well if you would like. They are similar to the ones I'm wearing now," he said as he motioned over his current clothes.
Harmerti took the money and looked at Jameson. "Are you sure I could go there? You're one of the few people that accept me in this country. Will they not like me?"
Jameson shrugged, "Why should you care what they think of you? As long as you know who you are, their words won't harm you. The clothes I will give you might not make them like you, but they will respect you. Everyone respects a well dress man."
Harmerti took a moment to think about visiting to the Expo. Does Jameson even know how to take care of Ra? Even if he doesn't, Ra should tell him everything he needs. Yeah. That'll be what happens. Harmerti took the money and thanked Jameson. Afterwards, James had went off, grabbed the clothes he promised, and offered them to Harmerti. Harmerti accepted the clothes and again thanked Jameson. An anxious thought suddenly cropped its way into Harmerti's head, "Will you not come to the... Expo as well?"
Jameson shook his head, "No, I have too much work here to take care of. Have fun, Harmerti."
Hamerti nodded and started off, before realizing he had no idea where the event was. "Ah, I don't know the Expo is."
Jameson pointed in the direction of the Expo. Harmerti nodded and had headed off toward where he had pointed. This little journey will be the first time he had ever explored the inner city, let alone even talk to people inside it. This thought alone had made Harmerti more nervous than leaving Ra behind.
After leaving the hunting cabin, Harmerti immediately went to a nearby creek to wash off and dress for his trip toward the Expo.
After a few hours of looking for the Expo, Harmerti had finally found some sort of huge crowd entering a decorated building. Perhaps even a palace. After paying his ticket in and entering the expo, Harmerti was immediatly entranced by all the colors, gizmos, and other artifacts he could only dream of. In fact, it was almost overwhelmingly new. There was nothing like this with the hunting club and nothing even remotely this advanced back in Egypt. Harmerti could only imagine what some of these machines could do, probably hurt a lot of people. His first instinct was to ask as many questions about each thing as possible to know them in and out just in case they try to attack him.
One of the artifacts seemed to do exactly what he feared. It tumbled and rolled all the way across the once glimmering halls until it had broken multiple stone tablets. The first thing he noticed after the dust had fallen was someone seemingly helping a few people unfortunate to be caught in the dust plume and rubble. He watched as he helped a woman and man up, smiling at his kind gesture. This smile continued for a while until the man that once helped the people had yelled and spat at a guard that also seemed to want to help the poor people. This isn't how you treat those that only wish to protect you. After a few seconds of confusion, Harmerti had decided that it would be best to confront that man that had performed such a rude gesture at the guard and perhaps understand the reason behind it. No need for conflict, just a simple question so surely he would understand. He saw where the man had begun toward and Harmerti began to follow, hoping he would be able to catch up to him and talk to him. @Peaceswore
Early that morning, Evelyn awakened. It was just going to be another boring day, presumingly. Apparently everyone in the house was still sleeping, so she just went ahead and got ready for the day. Her Father had bought a ticket to a particular event for the day, but wasn't able to attend and her Brother was unwilling to go, so Evelyn took the opportunity to get out of the house and get away from her Mother, whom she found to be overbearing. After doing her hair and getting dressed, the young woman grabbed her ticket for the expo and quietly ate breakfast on her own. Quietly, she had left her house and was on her way to the Expo. When she had arrived, Evelyn was astonished by what she saw. Everything was so clear. For the most part, she just kept to herself, having not planned to be around for very long. Obviously her parents were going to ask about why she was away, but her Father knew her well enough to know that she went to the expo.
The technology she was seeing was fairly advanced, at least compared to what she grew up with. Reluctantly, she just followed the biggest group she could find. The way she was dressed, along with her upbringing, Evelyn was able to easily blend in. A tour? How sweet. After a couple of minutes, she separated from the giant group to run off on her own. She didn't see the point in following the herd. Lastly, after seeing everything that she was curious with, the young woman just went off to go find a bench and sit down on. Wearing all the fluffy dresses that her Mother often slammed her with could get exhausting sometimes.
As she folded her arms and closed her eyes, she heard someone scream. Evelyn's eyes shot open and she followed the source. All she saw next was...Steam. Lots of it. Not to mention people yelling followed by a bunch of commotion. As the steam began to clear, she saw two figures standing. Unsure of what to do, she just kept hidden behind a wall, peaking out to keep watch on what was going on at the moment.
Tobias stood dumbfounded for a few more seconds before even more things began to happen. He was given a strange wink by an unknown man who looked not much older than himself, then a burst of mist envelopped the point where the train has crashed. Had it come from the machine? Tobias couldn't be sure. He listened to Nikolai curse soundly in Russian. "Vat was zat about you and trouble?" He asked irritably.
Tobias ignored the jab and dashed forward.
"I'm so sorry!" He said in a loud voice as he hurried to the broken stone tablets, now swathed in a thick cloud of mist. He waved the smoke out of his face as he began to help the poor guests to their feet. "The chocks fell loose, I only leaned on a wheel...whatever the damage I will try and repair it I promise."
By then the curators of the ancient artifact exhibit were rushing over. Tobias, once he had made sure everyone was unhurt turned his attention to the fragmented tablets. Each seemed to be from a different culture, not that Tobias had paid much attention during his private history lessons but from what he could make out one was of Greek origin, one of Norse and one from Ancient Egypt. Without thinking Tobias reached down for a fragment of stone. His fingers brushed the Egyptian hieroglyphs and immediately the scene melted before his eyes, replaced by a scorching dessert.
They come. Whispered a voice in his head. Tobias tried to fight the sensation of urgency and fear that threatened to overwhelm him. In the distance he saw a figure take wing, a bird with a long beak. Suddenly the vision melted and was replaced by two predatory eyes, dark, red and thirsty for death. He cried out and felt himself fall backward and suddenly, he was on the floor of the Crystal Palace, breathing heavily, the ruined tablet sitting just before him.
Tobias sprang back before Nikolai could help him. "Tobias! Vat just happened? You look like you've seen ghost." There was genuine concern in the large man's voice. Tobias couldn't answer right away, he tried to piece together what he had seen. He couldn't help but feeling there was...more in his mind now, then there had been before.
Tobias did not have time to recover further however as a curator, purple faced, eyes bulging from looking at the destruction of his beloved artifacts began screaming at him.
Nikolai rolled up a sleeve threateningly but Tobias put a hand on his arm and let the curator continue, trying to keep as solid a composure as he could.
Fish sneaked carefully in the dark mist, her goggles allowing her to see through it with ease. She ignored the coughing, frightened nobles around her, her gaze fixated only on the noble boy and his fierce bodyguard. As she made her way towards him, though, she noticed several things. One was a rather persistent girl who was hellbent on making her way towards the pair which could have meant complications or more distraction, that was not the main issue here. She was more worried about that sly, ruffian looking man lurking near them.
" Shit. " she cursed " Of course I am not alone here... but to get to my targets before I have the chance? Give me a break! "
She noticed how the young man hurried away towards the Egyptian relics and, after a brief, strange yelling session was staring at the broken tablet with an intense gaze. She fell into thinking as she made her way out of the cloud. It was not possible to just simply mug the little noble... even if she managed to the other thieves around would surely be on high alert and would strike at her... something she did not want at all to happen. Taking a deep breath she watched for a moment until an idea came in her mind.
Just as the curator passed by Fish put on her warmest smile and her most concerned face, trying to look like a worrying, understanding noble... or at least someone sympathetic. Hiding her robotic arm behind her cloak she walked up to the duo.
" Oh my, what a terrible tragedy! " she exclaimed, trying to walk up to the boy, looking at him, trying to find the perfect angle to pickpocket. It was not easy. " Are you two all right? "
She stared at the antique table and sighed.
" That is an ancient one for sure! The exhibition holder will be very mad at this rubble... " she smiled " But of course... there are always solutions... "
She tried to finally slide her hands into the pockets of the boy, finally grabbing his purse gently. As she was about to celebrate she felt a strange, cold shiver running down her spine as she dropped it once again. Such an embarrassing display of foolishness. It seemed that she needed to keep mingling.
" I know a very crafty smith who could repair this little toy... but it is rather a burdensome task and is not cheap. But surely, gentlemen, you would have no problem with such funds? "
Olivia stopped about twenty feet from the two men; nothing seemed unremarkable about them and they seemed to be genuinely sorry about the chaos they had unleashed. One of them seemed to be trying to rectify his mistakes: at least he was an honest person, despite his clumsiness. To Olivia's horror, he touched one of the ancient tablets and it seemed he had realized his mistake as well; he started staring it intently, before he started to seemingly overreact. She watched with slight amusement as he collapsed with a cry; never before had she met someone so apparently attached to an inanimate object.
A curator approached the pair after a couple of seconds, positively fuming; Olivia thought that they were contributing to the steam that was quickly spreading around the room. A girl walked up to the pair only a moment later, and Olivia approached with caution. There seemed to be something a bit more sinister going on, and the girl, despite her often reserved nature, approached with curiousity in her eye. The explanation that immediately came to mind was that she felt sorry for the boy that the curator was shouting at; this was a problem that could be fixed with a little bit of talking.
When the curator paused to take a breath through his torrent of shouting, Olivia interjected, "If the issue is just monetary, I'm sure I can cover it. The damage done to these precious things can't be fully undone but surely they can be repaired, at least temporarily. And I'm sure another expedition to Egypt, Greece or Scandinavia would yield even more precious artifacts. If you spoke to any one of these fine gentlemen," she motioned subtly to the crowd, "I'm certain they would be willing to fund such an important cultural and historical trip."
Olivia took a glance at the two men, who were being talked to by the girl. There was a mental sigh before she continued, "As for a punishment, which they most truly deserved, surely just ejecting them from such an exhibition of wonder will be enough. I'd be more than happy to escort them out if it would please you. You wouldn't want to cause any more commotion, would you?"
Flattery and reason, Olivia hoped, would convince the curator to get these two boys out of trouble. She was certain it had just been a mistake, they didn't deserve to be punished for something that wasn't just their mistake.

Alex was about to leave and forget the entire incident that had just happen sense he got his prize, and truly he couldn't care less about the attention this was going to bring. Really he simply planned to use it all as a cover to escape without being seen, hell it would be a great opportunity to snag some last minute things. Sadly against his better judgement he didn't leave right away. Rather he let his attention get caught by the commotion coming from the stone tablets. His eyes glanced over to them and there he saw the same male that had caused all of this in the beginning now on the ground after screaming. This act mainly concerned him since he didn't see anything that would warrant a scream. There were no guards there yet pointing guns at him, or some insane person threatening his life, the train, which would give one plenty reason to scream. Well that wasn't moving either, so he had to wonder why the other seemed to freaked out. Something in him was telling him to keep going and leave but he didn't want to, not just yet. And that was because his eyes went on the girl who was trying to pickpocket the man.
With him being distracted by curator, snatching the wallet should be easy. But no, somehow the girl ended up messing it up and dropping the wallet. Letting out a sigh and shaking his head he looked away ready to go now. 'She is an amateur after all, probably going to get caught now unless that man is daft.' Once again he began to push his way through the crowd, ignoring the shouts that came from the curator as he moved on. H didn't get far before he got an uneasy feeling about him. Glancing behind him he came into eye contact with someone that was coming to him, not to anyone else but straight for him. This made him stop once again, if he bolted off running he would be screaming guilt, rather he kept his posture of a noble and looked down at the approaching male. "Is there something of concern you wish to speak to me about?" He asked in a calm yet awfully bored tone a simple sigh leaving him as he remained in his spot. 'This better be quick, If this ass makes it so I'm surrounded by guards, someone better not think of reproducing'. He had no plans to pickpocket this man, after all their eyes had met. One rule when it came to pickpocketing, if you eyes have met you shouldn't go for it unless you are a glutton for punishment.
Great, now even more unpleasant things have happened. Another person injured it seemed, screaming from who knows what. Harmerti looked over to where he heard the scream. Oh good, there's more dust...or fog? He paused for a moment to think about this place. Perhaps it was a mistake coming here. Though, Harmerti is finally doing something other than hunting and might even help someone in need. It would be nice going to sleep with that in mind instead of having to worry about achieving the fox quota for the day. Harmerti's mind wandered for few seconds before returning to what he was doing previously. Which was... what again? Damn chaos making him lose focus. Living alone is so much more peaceful.
Harmerti had nearly given up following the man who yelled at the guard when another person seemed to be in pain; however, before Harmerti could even clear his mind, his original target of simple questioning had stopped and responded with a question himself. Unfortunately for Harmerti, he had left his focus on Alex when he had asked the question, so everything that he had said went in one ear and directly out the other. He had shifted focus back and forth from the scream and Alex, but eventually decided Alex's direct question was a little more important to answer. Still though, what was his question again? Harmerti looked around a little awkwardly before saying, "Uh... Well I...was going to do something, but," he pointed to where he heard the scream, "I think there is something that we could be more useful doing than talking." He started off in the direction he pointed, before stopping and turning back toward Alex, "Ah, actually I do have a question. Are events like these normally this chaotic?" This was Harmerti's first public event in London after all. Jameson promised it would be enjoyable, but this is far from it. At the very least, it's just overwhelming with all the people and possible injuries.
Tobias was still startled from his encounter with the stone and the vision he had seen, then the young figure approached them and offered a contact to help repair the stones. He beamed at her.
"T-toy?!" Stuttered the curator, still very much purple.
"That is a very kind offer miss." Tobias said, marking her simple clothing but saying nothing. The curator however had no such tact.
"Who let you in here?" He snapped.
Tobias' expression darkened and he took a step between the girl and the angry curator. Nikolai had seen the wallet drop to the ground and snatched it up, giving Fish an untrusting glance.
The appearance of the noblewoman was a bit of a surprise and when she offered to pay for the damages Tobias flushed visibly. His gentlemanly upbringing kicked in automatically. "My lady I couldn't possibly allow you to cover for my blunders."
When she mentioned that they should be ejected from the exhibition Tobias looked heartbroken. "Oh please don't ban me from the palace, I've waited months to come here you see and...here." He handed the curator his card.
"Please contact me with a full bill for damages, and this one is for the owner of that fine steam train there." He handed him a second card.
The curator looked down at the name on the card and his eyes bulged like those of a goldfish. "Y-your Mr. Fairfax?!"
Tobias tried not to look disappointed, he had hoped the man would not have known his name, but it was hard for people not to know one of the richest houses in London...
"Junior, however I find myself inheriting a little...sooner than anticipated." His tone grew regretful and his expression pained. "Please, can we forget this mess?"
He nodded to the man and turned a pleading expression onto Olivia. "I promise I won't go and lean on any more steam trains...ah, my wallet, thank you Nikolai."
The large Russian handed Tobias his effects, he hadn't even notice Fish had taken them.
"Thank you for your kindness miss." Tobias told Fish pleasantly. "I do hope I can return the favour," He knew that the Crystal Palace was mostly only a place for nobles, they would likely give the young girl trouble if she wandered about alone. "Will allow me to escort you through the exhibits? Indeed, the more the merrier." He added happily in Olivia's direction. "You can help keep me out of trouble." He chuckled, then extended a hand.
"Tobias P. Fairfax, at your service. And this is my good friend Nikolai." Nikolai nodded gruffly and did nothing else.
Tobias couldn't help but notice the strange man speaking to another a short distance away. He was dressed oddly, his skin a shade that was very much out of place at the Palace. then he recognized the other as the one who had winked at him.
"Looks like the Expo is reeling in all types," Tobias muttered with curiosity.
At the other end of the hall a figure stood stock still amid the gently moving crowd. It wore a constable's uniform, but the brim of the hat was pulled down tightly to shield its eyes from view. It watched the small group of people across the room, then vanished subtly as a couple passed before it.
A young lady leaned close to the mirror, examining her reflection critically. She reached up and corrected a curl that had sprung out of place, and then checked the whole of her appearance. The new dress her father had imported was rather fetching; bright red with brass buttons fastening in the front. The skirt was frilled but plain, which she could appreciate. Fetching, but still functional for an exciting day out.
She paced to the study, and kissed her father on the cheek, and then she was off.
The World Exposition.. What a marvelous thing it would be. Both for the inventions and exhibits, and the society that would be there. She felt a small thrill at the idea of conducting a little bit of business in public. She, of course, would have to give the impression of the dutiful daughter, but underneath, she would be analyzing, deciding the next step, and later having her fathers write the letters to inquire. It was an exhilarating little con that she had invented for herself.
The carriage ride was short, and she smiled prettily at the young guard who took her ticket. He took a moment to smile back, and Ophelia noted a few people slip by them without presenting a ticket. Silly man; he should know that many will try to sneak in.
As she walked, people jostled about, looking at this and that. She headed straight toward where she hoped there would be steam-engines on display. They were the reason she had come here today.
When she crossed into the room where they were, her eyes were already fixed on the locomotive. To her confusion, as she walked closer, it began to slid across the room. With a start, she realized it had come loose. In the panic that followed, she was pushed toward the broken tablets, and knocked to the ground. A young man with dark skin, talking with another man, stepped on her skirt as she tried to rise, and she tugged it away. "Do mind your step, sir!" She said sharply, her dark eyes fierce. She stood and looked him up and down, and her eyes stopped suddenly on the medallion around his neck. It was completely unfamiliar.. but it wasn't. She had to resist the urge to step closer and take hold of it. Instead she glared at him again and turned, attempting to hurry away from the unsettling feeling the symbol had given her.
In her rush, she had misjudged how close the people surrounding them were, and she bumped roughly into a solid body. She looked up, surprised to find a gruff, scarred face (was that an eye-patch?) towering over her. "My- my sincerest apologies, sir." She blurted, casting a vengeful glance over her shoulder at the strange young man. Why had he shaken her so, to make her stammer like a meek schoolgirl?
Fish's lips curled in disgust and disappointment as she was addressed by this noble fledgling. She cursed herself internally as she saw the bodyguard of the boy picking up the purse, effectively making her manouver pointless... at least for now, anyway. She felt uncomfortable as they were joined yet another elegant looking person, a woman now no less. Though Fish was not someone who was vain she still hated being the... lesser one in a conversation when it came to the charade of nobles. This became evident when the curator actually yelled at her. Sighing she flexed her robotic arm, curling her mechanical fingers into a fist, readying herself for a fight which would surely lead to her expulsion from the fair... but to her surprise the noble interjected.
" Wha- " was all that she manged to spew out before the noble gave his card to the curator who seemed to have noticed something. He had to be among the richest families... something that fueled the rage of Fish, up to the point when she was not even listening to the heart-wrenching story of the boy who she now knew as Tobias.
" Oh great.... another fancy-pants meetup. Just fascinating. " she murmured in herself, trying to avoid the distrusting looks of Nikolai. She had a hunch that the man knew about her duplicity but for now he decided against revealing it.
" Huh? What? " she asked as Tobias suggested her accompanying them for the rest of the exhibition. The thought of walking alongside with these nobles made her sick... but at the same time might be the opportunity she was looking for. She have not yet given up on her plan to steal... but she knew that she could steal more than just money at this point. If his name meant this much among the common folk... she would be able to use this somehow in the future.
" Well... uh... why not? These... things... surely look... interesting... " she said, not really convincingly. So much about being a professional. " Not sure about the merrier part though, that new lady over there looks more like a walking fashion show with her polite and stoic demeanor. " she said, looking at Olivia " No offense, honey. "
Just as they wanted to depart another girl stumbled into them, making Fish frown.
" Now, what we have here? Another little princess joining the party? Sure, we have more room in this little zoo we have here already! "
Olivia felt genuine sympathy for the man; she couldn't blame him for wanting to stay and marvel at the inventions and the mystical discoveries from far away lands. She was sure she would have been as impassioned as him had there been less people there to spoil the mystery of it all. Then he mentioned his surname: Fairfax. Immediately, Olivia felt out of place; she'd completely missed that, it was suddenly as if a sign had been above his head the entire time, shouting at her that he was nobility: instead, she'd thought he had been from the middle-class, desperate to try and invest in some kind of invention to try and enter the top ranks of society. Turns out he was already there.
The man offered his hand to shake, introducing himself after handing over some identification cards to the curator; for a second, Olivia was as shocked as he was. An annoyed scowl crossed her face before she regained her composure, she offered him a slight, polite smile and gently shook his hand, "I'd be happy to. I should introduce myself; I'm Olivia. Olivia Godwin."
The other girl was perhaps less modest, and far from polite. Olivia's expression hardened as she took a glance at her. She didn't want to rise to the use of the word honey, but oh how tempting it was to do so. The clothes, the arm, she took everything in; Olivia wanted to remember her: if she were to transgress another line, she could easily make this girl's life a living hell if she so wished. Olivia shook it off after a second, letting out a sigh, "I can see we're already going to be the best of friends. No offense is taken. For now."
Her attention turned back to Fairfax, "Where would you suggest we go first... Tobias? Lord Fairfax? How would you like to be referred to? It wouldn't surprise you to know that my father is eager to shake hands with you, sir, and he would prefer it if we knew the proper way to address a gentleman of your... stature."
This was all formalities for her father's sake, and based on his response to the curator's audible outburst earlier, it was likely he didn't want to talk about it either. But somethings had to be asked, even if it was just to keep up some kind of formal facade for the masses to enjoy.
Alex waited for the other to finish speaking and when the man was done he just gave him a deadpan look. "You stopped me to ask such a simple question? What a pest." With a sigh as he shook his head, not caring for his retreat being stopped because of something like that. Though there was some relief, after all he was worried that the other may have caught him taking a few trinkets that...one wouldn't consider to be his property at the time being. He looked at the individual and attempted to size him up. Though he wasn't certain what his place in the social class was, he certainly wasn't from around here, as given by the skin color...or he stood in the sun a lot, could be both really. The man's eye colors interested him along with the interesting necklace around his neck. 'Is that thing worth anything? Or...is it just a hunk of junk?' He let out a sigh and shook his head. 'Doesn't matter can't take it just yet......but maybe later~ After all I think he owes me for wasting my time~' At this slight idea he changed his attitude very quickly. Instead of being annoyed and wanting to be left alone, an inviting smile went on his face as if he were open for conversation. He brushed away his own comment about calling the man a pest as he smiled. "Not from around here are you my good fellow?" A light chuckle left him and he approached the other male not too close yet, but just enough to make sure the conversation could keep going. "Events like this can get rather hectic, however I do not recall the last time a train was let loose inside an exhibition. But I must admit these things hardly go down without a hitch, you should have seen the last fair and what happened there...Gods it was so horrid that the queen ordered papers to not write about it for it may curse many. Poor Madam Lacy" Many of these words were nothing more than lie after lie, but well....he truly wasn't happy the other caught his attention. So he might as well mess with him while he had the chance~
He was fully aware of the danger of lingering here, after all it was only a matter of time before the women as well as the last gentleman he had heled noticed certain things were missing from their person. And he being the last person to touch all three, would be a primary suspect for thievery. Which would be an insult to say the least...staying here an being pointed out by one of his victims, it had been ages since he let such a mistake happen. He wasn't inclined to make that mistake again however....he heard a name, a name which made him willing to risk getting caught if it meant he could get closer to him. Fairfax, so hard to not know what that name meant. If he could get close to that man, well who knows what possible riches could be hidden on him or around him~ So he had to stay and risk it, after all no risk no reward. Adjusting one of his black gloves with the lovely embroidery he made sure his attention remained on the man that spoke to him. This man seemed like the curious type, he wanted to help them out earlier so there was a high chance he would try to speak to Fairfax as well just out of a friendly gesture. This would provide his opening to get closer to the man as well...though seeing how many people where around him (something he saw from a quick glance to the rich man) it won't be easy for him. He had to be careful to say the least, but he was almost certain he could handle it. Keeping his smile and now extending on glove hand to the man he spoke with he gave him a kind smile one that masked every ill intention he had. "My name is Drake Diller, a pleasure to meet you. If you may, what is your name?"
Harmerti had turned toward a womanly voice who had seemingly yelled at him, then for some reason had also decided to apologize immediately afterwards. Boy these people are strange. Again, he wasn't sure what this woman had said as he wasn't paying attention to her initially and so he was left to stand there a little bewildered. This other man in front of him had also started saying something, though this time, Harmerti was expecting a response from him. He did ask a question to him previously. Harmerti did notice both of them looking at his little medallion, each for their own short moment. He simply grinned a little, before listening to the man's few questions.
After he listened patiently, feeling a little sympathy for the mentioned Madam Lacy and a little bit of trepidation from her unknowingly false story as well, he turned to where he could speak to both. He first turned his head toward the woman he seemed to have disturbed previously and said, "I apologize if I had caused a problem, miss. I promise to not cause problems for you anymore." Harmerti noticed her unusual behavior, but brushed it off as some strange foreign way of saying hello. He then turned toward the gentleman he had been trying to speak to previously, "Firstly, I would like to say, I'm sorry for Madam Lacy. As for your next questions, no I'm not from here. A few years ago, I actually moved from Egypt for reason I would rather not explain," He had pointed to his scarred eye. "I was no commoner there, though," he said, adjusting his borrowed clothing (which did not include an eyepatch) to emphasize his next statement, "I could be considered royalty there." He took a few moments to bask in his own self proclaimed glory, his hands on hips, looking out into the distance as if he was being painted, before answering the man's final question. He meant for this answer to be heard by both the woman and man, "My name is Harmerti Issan. Pleasure to meet you two," he said with a faked smile, meeting the other man's hand. He really wasn't happy being here right now, but decided that being polite is probably better in this situation. Harmerti is sure to thank Jameson for helping him learn the basic manners in London.
He was really pulling this whole 'being social' thing pretty well, so he thought. Though, inside his mind was just a mess of what is happening, its really not as bad as he made it out to be. The people here have been fairly nice so far, helping each other when they need it. Back in Egypt there would be people taking advantage of those in need, stealing from them, kicking them while they are down. So far, this seemingly hasn't happened yet, so that's good. Speaking of downed people, Harmerti looked back toward the once screaming man to see a crowd start to surround him. Some of those people seemed fairly upset, though he was unsure for what reason. Why would they be upset? They weren't harmed were they? Harmerti's curiosity had finally captured his full attention and he asked the two next to him, "Care to follow? I still want to see what is happening over there." He pointed toward the growing group of people, hoping these two would add to their numbers along with him. Even if they hadn't followed, Harmerti would have left for the distant group of curators and personalities.
Today was a special day. The Expo was happening right now and Moddy was gearing up hidden away outside along with a few other urchins.
Alright, you all got the word right? Seems like Alex thought he could leave the likes of us out here while he snatches all the goods. He said with a coy grin. His clothes were out of the norm today. Well cleaned, and formal were not to his liking but this little get together called for such attire. He was just lucky the well off woman left them hung to dry for so long so that he could snatch it not too long ago. Looks like I was the only one able to get some of these dreadful clothes and I cant get them dirty just yet. Bom, Toby, I need you to distract some folk while I slip in with a family. The small split in his teeth only made his devilish smile seem wider. The two dirty, bandaged kids nodded in agreement. Surly if everything went well, Moddy would make a bit of coin from pickpocket before Alex and his goons got the lot of it. It was a fun little game between the two but Moddy always seemed to fall behind after a while. There was only so much he could do before some Lady or lord saw through his lying. At least he was fast enough to escape from the guards every time.
Alright, on the count of three. One.... Tew..... THREE! The two kids jumped out of some bushes as they carried sticks behind them. As they yelled and caused a ruckus, Moddy simply slipped into a family as they were distracted, and slightly repulsed, by Bom and Toby. Keeping quiet while the boys were chased away, he followed the guests into the expo slyly.
With a glint in his eye, he looked around. All the contraptions and items around actually made him stop for a moment and take it all in. Oh the things he could do to these items before he left... Cut a few strings on something, find and ink and quill and write all over some important fabrics! It filled him with glee just thinking of the faces people would have. Before he knew it, his "family" was nowhere in sight. Shrugging, he started to walk around as he looked around. It seemed there was less sitting spaces than he had hoped. It was hard for him to snatch coins while purses were on a person. When people sat down, sometimes a purse would be off to the side making it easier to reach in and out. His ears caught different talk of ingenuity and such. He rolled his eyes at the pointless talk. Even if they were amazing feats, what use did he get out of any of it? He was some kid on the streets with no means of purchasing anything useful.
His ear perked up at the sudden voice he passed by. Drake Diller? He chuckled silently to himself. No doubt it was a voice that matched the face. He peeked around the legs of some people as he watched his... teacher? Acquaintance? Basically the next thing up from an urchin. He fixed his hair a little a little and gave himself a few small slaps on the cheeks to redden them up. B-Brother! T-there you a-are... I got lost again... He said as he wavered his voice. Acting flustered, he walked up in a timid fashion. There are so many people and I couldn't see over them.
Tobias tensed at the rudeness offered by the young commoner girl. It was a known fact that some of the lower class had received lashings for lesser slights. The curator looked horrified. Tobias touched her arm gently as he moved away from the gaping man.
“Please, exercise a little more discretion.” He cautioned her. “Or I won’t be able to stop what happens.”
He stood up straight and pretended as though nothing had happened.
“Just Tobias please.” He replied, trying not to show the pain at the mention of ‘Mr. Fairfax’. To Tobias, that would always mean his father. Then he paused and gave the two ladies an odd look.
“I’ve often been informed it is customary to reply with your own names.” He said with a cheeky smile, the sarcasm held a hint of amusement but was in no way critical.

As he made his way slowly through the milling crowd deeper into the exhibit of ancient artifacts he let his eyes wander about the room. The objects here were incredible; some pieces were statues almost two stories high, others were pots or bits of jewellery made entirely out of gold, the hall stretched on for at least half a mile, ending with the entrance to the mirror ballroom. Tobias walked past the black statue of serpent, coiled about an Egyptian-styled goblet.
“Fascinating people the Egyptians.” He said conversationally. “So advanced for an ancient civilization…”
It was then he felt eyes on him and looked around. There were so many people it was hard to pick out what had disturbed him. Then he spotted a group of dark-clad men enter the hall. They strode purposely into the room, their faces hidden by high scarfs and low hats, then one drew a knife and they all charged.
Tobias stepped instantly between his companions and the attackers, only to be eclipsed by Nikolai’s bear-like form.
To his utter surprise the armed men split, two rushing for him and the other three dashing straight towards the strangely foreign gentleman and the group he stood with. Their intent was clear, they meant to kill.
Fish frowned at Tobias' remark. Him interjecting was the last thing she expected or wanted... after seeing how marvelously oblivious the boy was she did not really consider him a threat should it come to face off against him in combat. His friend, though... well, he seemed to be a tougher opponent for sure. Was she to try and fight him in a hand-to-hand combat he would surely crush he good and her mechanic arm for sure so she decided to restrain her sharp tongue for now and to shrug.
" Whatever the 'master' wishes. " she groaned, watching as he turned to the other company around them. The girl she 'insulted' seemingly had a thick skin which made Fish grin. This Olivia might be another entertaining figure... perhaps her next target for some thievery? No... she did not have time to focus on petty business like this as they were finally drawn away, walking with Tobias towards the Egyptian part of the expo.
Boredom. Lameness. More boredom. These words pretty much summed up Fish's experience with the items in the displays. They were so primitive... so simple... they were truly boring to the fullest of extent. And the fact that Tobias just talked and talked about these items made the girl even more aggravated.
" Interesting my a- " she was about to say as she remembered what the noble said and she bit her tongue. She stretched out in kind of a rude fashion, yawning sleepily as she placed her hands behind her head " This place is easily the most sleep-inducing paradise I have ever had the misfortune to step into. Who cares about the history and the past, seriously? The future and the present is everything, looking at these junks makes no difference of what is happening right now, what is the deal with that? "
It was then when she noticed movement in the crowd - well, more movement than normal. It appeared that some people followed them... a folly in her opinion, knowing how many of them were there. But when the enemy finally unveiled themselves and lunged towards the party Fish smiled, began cracking her fingers.
" All right, something to finally lighten up the mood! " she said... at first, until she saw how sharp those knives were. Backing away a bit Fish looked around... and her eyes landed on an ancient spear of a long dead emperor in a display. Grinning she rushed towards it and smashed the glass in with her mechanic fist, the display falling to pieces. Grabbing the spear as her only mean of weapon she stared at the incoming foes.
" I hope you fight as well as you chat, Toby. " she said, grinning nervously. She did not really favor fights... but if she could stay light on her feet she would be able to outmanouver their foes. Looking at Olivia she smiled.
" Hey, honey, care to join me? I want to see some noble-woman action! " she turned to the other, black haired girl as well " You too, Blacky! "
Alex smiled when the other offered if he wished to join him as he made his way over to Fairfax. The moment the others back was turned a smirk went on his face, how perfect. Royalty and a Fairfax in the same room? If he could befriend them, then the trinkets in his possession would mean nothing compared to the possible wealth he could obtain from these two. "I'm curious as well, lead the way." He said simply though the other was already making his way there. A sigh of satisfaction left him, though he still wasn't counting his chickens yet, he had to befriend them. And with a bodyguard like that around the other male, it may not be easy. He had to come up with a plan of attack, he wasn't going to stoop so low as to kiss the others ass. Screw that, no he had to approach this a different way. 'But ho-' Before he could come up with a thought a voice he was very familiar with entered his ears. Blinking a few times he took his eyes off Haremerti for a moment and looked around, it didn't take him even a second before his eyes landed on Moddy. 'What is the rat brat doing here?' He raised a brow though really it was obvious enough as to why the boy was hear, same reason as he was. Deciding to go along with the charade incase others were watching (wouldn't make the best scene if he shooed the boy away now would it?) he gave the other a kind smile an utterly fake one. But to anyone that didn't know him it passed off as the real deal. "Of course you couldn't see over them, you are still a pipsqueak after all." Keeping the smile he glanced over his shoulder to make sure his target wasn't out of his sight just yet. "Lets get moving, I don't want to miss my new potential....friend."
After saying these words he turned on his heel. He waited a few second for Moddy to get a bit closer before he started to walk after Haremerti. When it came to the little boy or the urchin leader as many seemed to consider him. Alex didn't mind the boy's presence, certainly he may tease the other or even seem to look down on him from time to time. But in all honesty he had nothing against the boy, if anything one could say... He was investing in him. Alex saw the potential the kid had ever since they first met, his silver tongue and swift hands, not to mention how many of the other urchins seemed to look up to him. It would be silly not to see what the boy could amount to, so Alex being the kind man he is. Has long since decided to help the boy out, letting him come on a few heist, having his help at times when he wanted to steal something from a big name things of that nature. Really as long as Moddy's stick hands kept away from his pockets and targets, Alex didn't mind the boy coming along for the ride. Expected or not. "Royalty and a Fairfax....this expo is just giving us all sorts of opportunities~" He said in a hum as he looked about the crowd to see if there were any other potential pigs he could steal from.
As he looked around something caught his attention, several men stood out, their scarves over their faces and their caps low to hide any distinct facial feature. "Bandits?" His tone was soft as he watched them. He didn't bother warning others of their presence as he simply watched. Besides surely other people would notice how these hogs stood out from the rest of the swine in the area. As they moved he saw a glint of something in the bandits hand...a weapon. The moment that weapon was in sight the group charged heading for both his group and the group where the Fairfax man was at. "Assassins...?" Despite the immediate danger Alex still didn't do anything, but that was namely because he thought these jackasses were going to kill Haremerti. If that's the case he didn't see a reason to get involved, yes it might mean missing a good opportunity to rob him blind later. But hey, he could always loot the corpse after the assassins were done with the royal man. It truly wasn't any of his business... Though that attitude quickly changed as he saw the three men that at first seemed to come for Haremerti split once again going now in a group of one and two.
One of the men still went for Haremerti, the other two however...headed straight for him and Moddy. This action shocked Alex quite a bit, what made him so important? That a group that was going after two people in high society would go after him and possibly Moddy as well?? "What th- He had to cut his own self off as the men were getting close which meant he head to react fast. Both brandished weapons, and seeing how they were willing to attack in such a public place, it must mean they were ready to do something drastic, very drastic. Gritting his teeth Alex had to take a step back, before kneeling down just a bit. One could think he was about to cover his head to protect himself, but instead just as the blade in the enemy's hand went for the back of his neck. He stood back up and parried the attack with his steel rod, just a third of its full potential height. This parry made his attacker stagger back a bit while the other attacker ran by Alex heading right for the boy. Alex wasn't certain if he could handle two opponents on his own however he wasn't interested in seeing his investment biting the dust here. So in a split second decision he stuck his foot out to trip up the second attack, which worked a bit and made him stumble. However it didn't stop the full attack. Alex was about to try and get that man's attention, but the one that first attacked him was back in action and charged after him again forcing Alex to side step away from Moddy in order to avoid a slash meant for his gut. "What is this insanity!? Do you not know how to properly off someone???"
“You’ll be catching flies soon.” James said jokingly as he gently pushed Alexandria’s mouth shut with the tip of his finger. Nikolas chuckled as he walked behind them. One couldn’t blame the young girl. The crystal palace alone was dazzling. To say nothing of the stirring excitement and the wonders to behold at the actual expo itself. There were people everywhere, tall, short, big and small. It reminded James of a bazaar he had been to on his latest journey. Only a lot fancier, and 1000 times cooler then the sweltering deserts of India. James stopped momentarily to put their invitations away in a pocket on the inside of his jacket. “Uncle, we need to find our booth. The guys should have brought the bike in last night. I need to go make sure it’s okay.” James said, Nikolas only chuckled and pushed them both along. “I will see to it, we’ll find the booth and then you can go off.” James only nodded as he took his sisters hand. He had to admit, despite all the magnificent sights he had seen, he was hard pressed to recall anything that compared to this event.
As they walked, he tried his hardest not to gawk. Alexandria didn’t even bother covering up her excitement as she looked on in amazement. The various fountains they passed, the statues, the artifacts. All of the glittering jewels from high born families, and shiny inventions. It all seemed almost overwhelming. James could only smile at the excitement he felt through his sister. As he looked at the different exhibitions, James seemed to recognize the craftsmanship of more than one piece of work. The influences impressed on certain steam cars from one area of London. The steam train models from another part. It didn’t take too long for them to find his booth. A wide area cordoned off with gold stanchions and red velvety rope. In the middle of the area sat his steambike. Black metal with gold filigree along the body of it. Two exhaust pipes rising slightly and aiming up at an angle like raised wings. Each one black with gold filigree, like an ivy plant crawling from the base of the pipe up to the tip. Next to the bike on a lone stool sat his helmet, and on the other side an easel with a few outlines of the bike and some notes written on it. His chest swelled with joy as he propped his cane up under his arm and strode the last few steps onto the big red carpet that was his booth. He took a deep breath and looked up at the large white sign with bold gold lettering ‘Elrich Engineering’ it read. He turned to see his uncle standing there, watching him with a look of pride and joy. His sister was nearly squealing with excitement as she ran past the stanchions and dropped to a knee to marvel at the bike. “This is it?!! After all this time it’s finally completed?!” She exclaimed as he walked around it, admiring her reflection in the polished metal. James just nodded as he let his arm caress the frame of the bike. Cool metal against cool metal, the sound was almost like a ringing. Music to his ears.
“Come now boy, you don’t want to miss the rest of the expo buried in your own work do you?!” Nikolas teased as he dragged him away from the bike. “There’s way too much to see here, for you to stay in one spot. Go on now, get to finding, and I’ll keep the booth for you.” Nikolas said as he pushed both James and Alex away. Alex grabbed James’ hand before he could protest too much and pulled him away. They were quickly swept up in the moving crowd, and even James’ slight irritation faded away as he was dragged from booth to booth, to exhibition. Each one more marvelous than the last. James was standing only a few feet from Alex. Explaining to her the differences between two different steam engines that were currently being used in cars when a sudden commotion broke out. He wasn’t sure what was happening, he just heard yelling, and suddenly the crowd was rushing and falling towards him. He managed to sweep Alex up and began moving. “Get back to the booth, I’ll find you later.” He said as smoke and steam began to envelope the immediate area. The commotion didn’t last long though. Pretty soon he heard quite a bit of loud arguing, pretty sure it was a direct result of the crashing before the steam he shrugged and decided to move away.
With the smoke gone from his eyes, he had no problem seeing where he was now. The only issue was he didn’t know exactly where he had moved to. He shrugged and followed a few more exhibits, tapping happily as he made his way into a room that seemed to be full of statues and collections from Egypt. He was already near the far end of the room when he overheard several more people entering. A strange sense of danger crept up his spine. Not unlike when he would crawl through ruined temples and he felt unwanted there. Only much more sinister. He shook the feeling off, or tried to and he looked around the room once more. Two small groups of people seemed to have gathered near the middle of the room. He was about to turn and continue his exploration when he noticed dark clad figures rushing forward. He frowned in confusion at first. Then confusion turned into anger as the glinting of knives brought on the rush of adrenaline. He moved towards the middle of the room and watched as both groups prepared to fight. He took a deep breath and raised his prosthetic arm. With careful aim, and a flex of his muscle, a small circle opened up in the center of his palm as he shot a projectile at a charging attacker. The glass projectile exploded in a spray of smelly black oil. Passing above a young man’s shoulder and shattering in the assailant’s face. He smirked as the man reeled back clutching his stained face. He stood back after, watching the fight unfold. He didn't want to involve himself too much in other peoples problems. But he wasn't one to sit back and let a fight stay unfair.
Olivia offered Tobias a quick and curt nod, "Tobias it is."
The young lady eyed the more commonly dressed girl suspiciously and then turned her attention back to the man from the Fairfax family. She rolled back her shoulders and fixed her posture, "So, what should we see first?"
Tobias guided the party toward the exhibit of ancient artifacts, and Olivia could only find herself in awe; like what Tobias had said, the Egyptians must have been a truly advanced people. She'd read about them in her books, back in her home in Finland, but the descriptions did not really do the artifacts any kind of justice. Of course, it would be the most polite girl Olivia had ever met that would ruin the tranquility and the mystery of it all.
Olivia narrowed a steely glare at the girl, "It is often said that the only way to prepare for the future is to look at the past's mistakes and amend them. In fact, if it weren't for the past, we wouldn't have had the Renaissance, which basically led to your lovely little mechanical arm."
Continuing to study the artifacts, Olivia noticed movement out of the corner of her eye. She didn't pay any heed to it at all; it seemed milder than the chaos earlier, so Olivia didn't want to react to it unless it was something serious. It wasn't until two individuals started barreling towards the group that Olivia realized that this wasn't just another exhibition malfunction.
Turning to face the new threat, the girl tried to take in as much as she could about the pair running towards them: dark-clad, with high scarfs and low hats most likely to hide their identities: Olivia doubted it was that cold outside. One was wielding a knife. Robbery and kidnapping seemed unlikely in such a largely crowded place: murder seemed the only truly possible intent for the hidden to have. As the realization dawned on her, a familiar voice mentioned "noble-woman action". Olivia started glancing past Tobias and Nikolai; she couldn't fight, she'd received no training to do so. But there were some weapons in the hall somewhere: she'd seen them only twenty minutes ago. The only issue was getting past the assailants to get to them.
Small sounds of jingles carried through the pathway that the Floure family walked upon as odd stares were being drawn to them. The stares were nothing compared to being spat and pushed against whenever they arrived in a new area. The Floure family ignored the disapproving looks as they went on their way, wagon behind with all of their trinkets and knick knacks following behind them. However, a young maiden of the Floure family beamed with enthusiasm as her warm, brown eyes surveyed the new area she was determined to take ahold of. A small grin appeared on her lips as she saw the attention that was on her and her family. Not wasting anymore time, Analette used this to advantage as she stared directly at every man and woman in the eye, winking at them as she began to glide across the streets, bare-footed. The bangles on her wrist and foot jingled as she danced on the pavement, drawing the attention of those heading to the Exposition. “Analette, young one, now is not the time. We need to set up before we bring the crowd in.” Grandmother Anauya called out to her gently as Analette continued her performance, using her tambourine with her routine, as she managed to allow her eyes to charm the crowd as her dance captivated them with exoticness and unfamiliar feelings. However, hearing her grandmother, Analette finished her spin with her tambourine as she went in for a bow before her raspy, voice spoke out-loud, “Forgive me, ladies and gentleman, that was only just a preview. If you wish to see more, we will be down by the building across from the Exposition. Come and see me.” She finished, her hands on her hip, as she winked at her audience before gliding away with the rest of her family. Her brown marbled eyes stared upon the World Exposition’s architecture in awe and intrastate. The glass covered walls and floorings, she couldn't believe such a sight! Never on her life would she thought she would live to see the day where man made glass to walk on and become functional to even build from. Her family on the other hand, we're not interested. “It is impure, the way man has decided to use their resources for such lavishness. Take only what you need.” Her mother spoke harshly, recoiling at the sight of such a building. Shaking her head, Analette smiled before bumping her hip into her mother,” Oh, Mama, don't worry about them. There is no need to judge how they live and we live.” Analette playfully said before a grin appeared on her face, wondering what fun she should have if she were to enter the exposition unnoticed.
Analette managed to get past the guards, at least, only by batting her eye lashes and a little “take me, I'm yours” play by play, she was able to get in despite her status. But, what made her surprised the most was the fact that one of the inventions seemed to be going on rampant because of a young man, no, charming looking young man, seemed to have tipped it off. Soon enough, chaos ensued as Analette took a step back, away from the frantic crowd, wanting to see more of the entertainment that was before her. As the smoke cleared, Analette noticed a variety of people grouping together, at least one large group that managed to convene together as she saw a troubled, reddened faced curator yelling at the young man, as two Lady, a young girl, and what seemed to be a guard stood there, sort of helping the young man calm down the curator. To her left she noticed a tanned skin young male with another young looking noble, perhaps, with the young noble’s brother heading towards the group that seemed to be heading to see the rest of the exhibit. What a rowdy bunch, how fun, Analette thought as she smiled to herself. However, before she knew it, three unknown preparators began to attack the group as Analette took a step back, seeing she was yet to be noticed. However, what confused her the most was who are they? Thieves? Assassins? Who is their target? The tanned skin male caught her attention the most, seeing that he stuck out from the rest of the group as a whole, but he, reminded her, of herself. Different and exotic. But, before she could observe anymore, the fight broke out as she managed to keep herself away from the scene, not wanting to butt in unless need be. Looking around to see how she can help, she spotted another young maiden hiding. Quickly running, quite agily, to her, without as much attention as she could on herself, she caught up to the Lady,“You chose the wrong place to hide, you will be in their line of fire if things get too out of hand.” Her raspy voice spoke up, amusement laced in her voice, though her face remained nonchalant as a smile appeared on Analette’s face. However, hearing glass shattering, Analette’s attention was on the male with a cane, narrowing her eyes, she stared at it, seeing it was more than what it seemed. A light chuckle escaped her lips, shaking her head. It was three against, how many was it? But seeing how scattered those in the room were, maybe they can use it to their advantage. Divide and conquer. However, she didn't want to accidentally stab someone’s heart knowing it may have been an innocent person. But seeing the stained faced perpetrator, Analette shook her head, making light of the situation. “Nice timing, sir. Remind me to ask you if I can inspect your cane some more when this is over with." A playful tone escaped her voice as she looked at him before back at the matter at hand, wanting to see how the others would fare before thinking of solutions. "Miss," Analette looked back at the Lady,"any ideas on what we should do? I have some ideas of my own, but let's hear yours first. I hope your ideas do not rely on guards or police, they will take awhile to arrive."
