Briony looked over when the sound of regular footfalls sounded near her knowing full well it had to be Griffon. She was about to warn him before one of the remaining dogs lunged at him, sinking its teeth into his arm. Her gaze had watched him for a moment seeing something unusual yet her focus went back to the task at hand. The two of them swiftly go for a large tree this time working together with Griffon boosting her up and her hand reaching down to help fully pull him up into the tree. His question couldn’t help but make her laugh in that moment for it was so out of place with them being attacked.”Not sure it’s certainly not good for the mind.”she said before his next words had her nodding the two of them leaping from the tree. She tucked and rolled once hitting the ground knowing landing on her legs any other way would have probably broken one from the cattle’s running. At least tucking and rolling gave her a few precious seconds to stay out of the way before standing within the massive beast. The dogs were becoming more vicious as they started egging the cattle into a pure chaos induced state while also snapping at herself and Griffon. She had no idea where he was at the moment and it didn’t matter not yet at least. A pain coursed through her arm, memories threatening to spill into her mind as a dog's teeth sank into the scar from a previous bite.

A scream of fury and pain left her as her fist connected with the dog's skull then her fingers tore at its nose until it let go of her. Then without even thinking she took off running years of running and training every day helping. Her footfalls are nearly silent because of the cattle’s large hooves masking any other sound. She saw Griffon for a split second before continuing on every fiber of her being focused on running. There she could see a safe place, her body turning towards it running on and on the sounds behind her changing to nothing but snarling. She knew if she looked back the fear would crumple her, having no doubts that the cattle were now dogs instead and probably the same size from the sound of it. She ran harder and harder before entering the city. She was safe now they couldn’t get her. Now with those thoughts in her mind the beating of her heart seemed to calm down before suddenly she was blinking open her eyes. Her first instinct was to look towards Griffon not sure who had won. Then seeing Griffon still sleeping though very briefly she knew she had won this time. Now she really wasn’t even sure how she had managed that not when dogs had been her fear this time around. “Damn I need a drink.”she said to no one in particular then she remembered her outing with Ghost would take place not much long after this so no she couldn’t get drunk.

Thorn

Mood: Nervous

Location: Testing Center

Interactions: Aya

The sharp scent of salt and gust of strong wind coming off the sea were some of the first things Thorn found himself truly registering as he entered the simulation. It took him a moment to even open his eyes as he simply enjoyed the sound of crashing waves and the scent of ocean water. He knew that the moment he dared to peek past his eyelids this beautiful moment would shatter, that there was of course going to be something there that he wouldn’t want to see. But for now, as he stood with his eyes shut the simulation was just peaceful. It wasn’t until he felt a figure beside him shift that he remembered Aya was there and opened his eyes to check on her. The moment his rich chestnut irises were exposed to the world before him he felt his heart lurch in his chest and took a step backwards. Staring out into the vast expanse he could clearly see that he and Aya were positioned on a thin cliff that towered over a massive and seemingly deep ocean. Just as he had predicted the beautiful dream was shattered and Thorn had to take several deep breaths to calm himself as he remembered that this was just a simulation.

Remembering the entire reason he had opened his eyes in the first place Thorn turned to look at Aya who had backed up as far from the ledge as she could get. “Hey, are you okay?” He asked though he knew it might seem like a stupid question. When he was younger he had learned that sometimes the best way to help a person who was panicking was to just talk to them and right now he hoped that just talking would help Aya and himself. “Not a fan of the ocean?” He asked and forced a semi-chipper tone that would have come to him with ease a week ago but now seemed to claw violently at his throat. “I hate heights, hence why we are this high up.” He continued to force the words to come, speaking more than he had in a long time and hoping it would help to ground Aya. Looking at her the young freckled boy nodded to the edge which they had both shied away from. “I am guessing you probably like it up here just fine, it’s far away from the water after all. Me, I hate it and the feeling it gives me. The funny thing about me is that I am not afraid of falling, that isn’t the part of heights that scares me…” He admitted, his voice strong enough to be heard over the wind but not so loud that he was yelling. “What scares me is how badly I want to jump.” Thorn stated and avoided looking over the edge. “It’s because of something called ‘l’appel du vide’ which I think translates to ‘call of the void’.” He explained and held himself steady against a particularly violent gust of wind. “Basically it means I have this desire to hurl myself off of places with great height. I guess for most people it isn’t that bad but for me, it just feels like I can barely resist.” Thorn was well aware of the fact that some people might view this as over-sharing but his hope was that giving Aya and himself something else to think about through this conversation would make it easier for the both of them. Also talking about the thing that scared him might help him to come to terms with it and conquer the fear that ruled him whenever he was high up.

Another strong gust of wind hit the cliff and Thorn swayed slightly, his words and breath catching in his lungs as he saw the cliff begin to crumble at the edge. This simulation wasn’t going to give them the chance to just sit and wait forever, it wanted them to be afraid, and losing what little ground they had left would certainly do the job. While Thorn knew this was a competition he didn’t want to see Aya suffering, it hurt him to see her in fear. More of the cliff crumbled into the ocean below and Thorn reached out, taking Aya’s hand in his and hoping she didn’t mind. He didn’t want her to fall in and hoped that if the time came he might be able to keep her from doing so. Studying the crumbling cliff, the vast drop, and the dark water below Thorn’s brow furrowed slightly and he tried to consider what they could do to triumph over these fears. His heart was thudding in his chest, not as violently as before but still with power. Luckily talking had helped him a bit and as he looked over at Aya once more he thought he could see evidence of it helping her too, or at least he hoped it had. “I think…” He trailed off and knew this would sound crazy. “I think we need to jump.” He announced after licking his lips which were dry from the salty ocean air. “If we want to conquer the fear I think we have to accept whatever comes next.” He tried to explain knowing he might sound crazy. “We can do it together.” He offered and gave her hand a reassuring squeeze.

Charlotte "Charlie" Stark || 20 || Medic || Dauntlessborn

Charlie struggled to watch anyone else's simulation other than Aubrey and Shay. It was reminding her of when they had been friends, Aubrey and Shay had been as close as two could be, so close that Charlie had honestly wondered whether they would end up in a relationship together, and then it had all changed. Aubrey hadn't known why of course, and Charlie had only taken guesses, but it had been heartbreaking. She remembered immediately after, when Aubrey questioned what had gone wrong, had it been her? Had she done something irreparably damaging to Shay that could never be forgiven? They had been 12, the years when girls begin to experience hormones, changing body parts, heavy attractions and relationships... Aubrey had needed that friendship to stay, she had been a popular friend with boys, but Shay had been one of her few female friendship, Shay and Briony. Charlie was grateful that Briony hadn't drawn away from people, from the pain that Aubrey had gone through with Shay stopping the friendship, Charlie knew that if Briony had broken things off with Aubrey as well, that Aubrey would not have become the strong person she was today. That very thought made Charlie feel a strong sense of sadness, that verged on the feeling of guilt. Aubrey had always been strong. She had loved Henry, and when he had died Aubrey had bounced back from it so quickly. She had only been 6 but even so, it had been an incredible thing to watch her just become stronger, to grow up and learn things that Charlie herself had never learned. Aubrey had been a bundle of joy, a fiery spirit, a roaring lion that could never run out of energy or spirit. Charlie had protected her, but Aubrey had spent her life building her body up and her character so that one day she could protect Charlie and Sasha. She was always the stronger one. Charlie had protected Aubrey from Jeremy, she could never have let Jeremy touch Aubrey, because Aubrey had a chance at a good life. Charlie's chances had felt impossible back then, so all she had done was live for Aubrey, while all the while Aubrey lived for her too, in her own way. Now, those times felt like they had been for naught. Aubrey was now angry with Charlie while simultaneously being angrier with herself. Charlie agreed that it must be painful to learn that you had been lied to for 7 odd years. But... To do what Aubrey did, to not back down even when people were speaking truth, so many people that Aubrey trusted... Used to trust... Charlie felt her jaw clench and she breathed sharply out her nose. She wished she could do away with this all. She wished Aubrey had never found out about Jeremy. She wished Aubrey had never taken on Jeremy's job to find out who Ghost was. Heck. she almost wished that Ghost had never hurt Jeremy and scared him. She knew that wasn't true. The relief that she'd had from Jeremy's absence in her life was overwhelming. Not only was her spirit brighter than ever before, but her body was remarkably lacking in bruises, her skin had so much colour in it, she even ate a little bit more than usual, and was sleeping longer through the night. Much of this was due to her being with Ghost most of the time, and feeling safer with him than she had with any other man (besides Henry) but she knew a good part of all that was due to Jeremy's absence.
Knowing that he could at any time turn up and do whatever he liked was terrifying, however, and she was starting to jump at every shadow, like she used to. Even now as she heard random blips from the community or cracks in the floorboards, or the sound of distant voices... She shivered, wrapping her arms around herself. She felt unsafe unless she was around others.

Not quite feeling up to be around Ghost, simply because she still felt a tad awkward about what had happened last night, and worrying that he resented the actions she had done (or not done). She excused herself and made her way to the bathroom. She didn't want to be away long, her anxiety over the initiates was higher than usual, and especially for Shay, after the massive reaction yesterday. She had a theory about what had happened, as she had witnessed Chris have allergies to the simulation many times, but this had been entirely different. She had watched back the recording of what had happened, and the only thing that had happened before Charlie brought Shay out was that Shay was hearing the sharp loud noise that frightened Charlie so much. She had grabbed her ears, and had started the decline from there. Thus, Charlie surmised that it was likely that, which had been the cause, and that had triggered Shay's medical problems. She felt bad, that Shay had had such a reaction to her fear, and that she had been rushed to hospital. Plus, she looked terrible now, so she wondered whether she had been released from hospital or had escaped. Likely the latter. But... in all honesty that would get her good grades in Dauntless, if she had stayed in hospital she would have had a default loss. Just like Blair and Finn were having now. Both had not showed up. Finn had been obvious that he wouldn't be here, he was legitimately missing, another pain for Aubrey to experience right now, but Blair had been a surprise. Sure, she had run away before training yesterday, but they had all seen her here before then, and it had been due to Chris breaking up with her (as far as Charlie could tell) but she was gone two days in a row? That was bad news.
Reaching the bathroom, Charlie entered quickly to do her business, then stood for a while at the sink, just a minute, she looked at her reflection. She thought many things, remembering her time in initiation where if Alice didn't escort her in the bathroom then she would be beaten badly, most of the bathrooms at that time were stained with blood, much of it hers. She remembered how Caspian would wait outside of the bathroom for her and would look her over each time she exited to make sure she was okay. Looking at her reflection she remembered when her body looked so different. How it had looked right when Jeremy had come into her life. She had been 13, she had been tiny, skinny and petite, and when Jeremy entered she had such high stress, panic and anxiety that she stopped eating, her body deteriorated, and it wasn't till initiation that she was forced to eat for the sake of being able to go through training, that and Jeremy seemed to disappear at that time, and Caspian and Alice looked after her. After then she had remained about the same size as she was now, although with differing bruise marks, injuries and occasional weight loss. She checked her body in the mirror. You should eat more. Did you even eat today? You know this isn't healthy. Even though she said those words to herself, she knew herself well enough to know that it didn't matter. She ate only when she absolutely needed to. Eating otherwise always made her feel sick, and... she didn't need that right now.

Coming out of the bathroom, she rushed back to the training rooms. She didn't even check the main monitor, or go to see if Bloom, Ghost and Phillip were still there, but instead entered into Shay and Aubrey's room to see if they were still in the simulation. They were. Charlie breathed a sigh of relief at being in the room, and she checked Shay physically as she still lay there in her simulation. She was well aware that Shay couldn't feel a thing while she was under, so she wouldn't be able to be interrupted in the simulation. Shay looked fine, there were no signs of distress in her body. Then Charlie turned to watch the small monitor that showed the simulation, and she felt her face drop at the sight. Shay was screaming and writhing against doctors, held back by multiple doctors and in a strait jacket, she was screaming, her eyes wide and it felt like she could be foaming at the mouth if that were possible. As Charlie panned her vision over to where Shay was primarily watching, she could see the reason for this apparent madness. Aubrey lay on a chair unmoving, her body strapped to a medical chair. Charlie couldn't be sure what was going on, but she knew Aubrey well enough to know that Aubrey had a fear of paralysis, or being unable to move. So either she was strapped in... or... Charlie looked closer, noting that Aubrey wasn't struggling against the bonds. If she were simply trapped, she would struggle, but no, Aubrey simply lay there. Was she paralyzed? In a coma? Charlie sat down to watch, fiddling with her dress as she did so, pulling at a loose thread on the hem of her skirt. This was unpleasant to watch, and she wasn't sure how either girl would get out of it. But as she watched she could see the heart rates of both girls. Shay's was rising higher and higher, and Aubrey's was staying about the same, high, but not as high as Shay's. Though... Charlie squinted as she looked at the screen. Was Aubrey's heart rate dropping? She quickly checked the monitor in real life that was monitoring Aubrey's heart rate, and even took her pulse to double check, and was happy with the results, but as she squinted at the scene again, she saw that Aubrey's heart rate was continuing to drop. Charlie wondered why, was she dying? That seemed unfair.. not that simulations were ever fair. Suddenly the heart monitor went flat in the simulation, and doctors rushed in, starting chest compressions then bringing a defibrillator. As soon as the defribillator touched Aubrey's chest her whole body moved and her eyes shot open, a gasp exited her lips.
As if in unison with the simulation, Aubrey leaped out of the chair in much the same manner, gasping for breath and clutching her chest. Her body shook and her skin looked sweaty, she glanced around with wild eyes, obviously shaken by the simulation. As soon as she saw Charlie, and glanced over to see Shay, Aubrey seemed to calm, but remained seated yet tense. Charlie wanted to reach out, but as Shay woke up she moved her attention to her, making sure she wasn't hurt or going to have a reaction, as Aubrey jumped off the chair. 'Are you alright?" Charlie asked the both of them, although Aubrey did not answer. "Did I win?" She asked pointedly. Charlie nodded. "You did wake up first." Aubrey nodded, glanced at Shay, seemingly wanting to say something, then opened the door and left. Charlie sighed, looking back at Shay. "How do you feel? Do I need to call the hospital?" She asked, already knowing what the answer would be.

Aubrey Stark || 16 || Initiate || Dauntlessborn

Aubrey tried to struggle, tried to yell, tried to simply move her head, twitch her nose, open her mouth. Nothing. No toe could wiggle, no finger could raise, nothing. For someone who prided herself on her ability to control her body well and train her body exactly the way she wanted, she hated this. That was why this was so scary to her. She was always in control of her body, and now she wasn't. Now she was frozen, paralyzed. There was so much to hate about it. She remembered another time that she had been in this fear in a simulation, where it had been Bastian and Julian carrying her away to do... things to her, and she had been paralyzed there too. That time she had bitten them, so hard that she had broken an artery, and that had gotten her out. But she couldn't do anything like that here. In fact, this paralysis was so bad she couldn't move anything, although... she could breathe. She looked as best as she could at the heart monitor, noticing that her heart rate was quite high. It was to be expected, she was frightened, even knowing this wasn't real. Could she heighten it? She began to try hyper ventilating, breathing quickly, to see if it would work. Although it seemed to work at first, and she noted that the doctor that was speaking with Shay, who was becoming more and more crazy looking as the simulation went on, stopped his talking to look at her for a moment. As much as it seemed that it was working, Aubrey watched as a doctor entered the room with a syringe, and without even waiting or saying anything, Aubrey felt the pierce in her neck as they injected her with something. Surely this would help! Aubrey tried to hyperventilate more, but as she laid there she felt her heart beat regulate again and she was unable to continue hyperventilating. What did they give her? Why did they do that? Wasn't she meant to find a way to beat this stupid fear? Aubrey felt anger prickle within her. She looked over at Shay, noting that now she was in a jacket, and surrounded by doctors or guards or something who were trying to keep her restrained. What had happened? Why was she going crazy? Aubrey strained inwardly to hear what they were saying, but only a few words made it through the glass and to her unmoving ears. "Aubrey... Your... Decision..." Whatever had happened to her, at least from what she was gathering from the broken speech of the doctor, was Shay's choice? Bitch. She thought, knowing full well that Shay likely hadn't done anything like that and never would. Still, it felt kind of good to think that about her. Aubrey knew that wasn't entirely true, it felt more sad and wrong than it did good... She tried to clench her jaw to focus, but was unable to, and instead she sighed softly. As she did so, she felt her heart rate slow down, and it felt like what had been injected in her was helping her heart beat slower.... Wait... could she do the opposite to what she had desire before? Aubrey began to breathe slowly, so slowly that she was struggling to hold her breath, or the lack of breath. But her heart began to slow down to an unhealthy rate, and she felt as it skipped a beat here, a couple beats there. Her head began to feel dizzy and heavy, but due to her vegetative state she couldn't do anything about it anyway, so she continued. She would use this heart slowing agent to their own detriment, and if they gave her one to speed it up she would do that too. She had no idea how it would help, but she knew two things. Either she would kill herself before she let herself live like this. Or she would find a way out of here. Maybe if they shocked her back to life... she would regain control of her body?

IT became apparent to the doctors and to Shay what was happening. Aubrey would have smirked if she could have, but instead she simply continue breathing slowly, letting out all her breath and holding that for as long as possible, and not drawing all her breath back in but only a tiny bit. It was hard, it was unnatural, but she had learned to do breathing exercises a long time ago to regulate her heart beat and to keep her body in different states (state of adrenaline, state of calm, state of high energy... state of rest... etc.). It seemed that the doctors were not happy, as they stormed around the rooms and entered her room. They began to fiddle with all the knobs and things around to try find out what was wrong, and that's when Shay entered behind them. Still in her jacket she couldn't do much, but Aubrey could immediately see the fear in her eyes. Even now she kept muttering that she would never do this to Aubrey, and a nurse beside her continued to repeat. "This was your choice. This was your choice. Here is the evidence." Each time Shay's voice would screech louder and louder and sharper and sharper, each time she sounded more and more mad. Screaming that she would never do this to Aubrey. Aubrey was struggling to listen at this point, as her body began to struggle against the lack of oxygen and her heart was skipping multiple beats at a time. She tried to continue listening to Shay, and she could hear her, the words she said were piercing, and they so nearly made Aubrey take in more breath, breathe faster. Was... was it true what Shay was saying? She couldn't stop now though, she needed to win. Trying to ignore the feelings that were beginning to bud in her chest, Aubrey finally let all her breath out again, and this time the heart monitor failed. Aubrey was suddenly in darkness, a suffocating, endless darkness that blanketed her like... A shock went through her body at that point and her eyes opened as she gasped, her whole body feeling on fire and her arms grasping forward. Then almost as if to repeat that, she woke up for real, her body leaping up in that same way, her eyes opening and her mouth gasping as she reached forward. But now.. Now she was back. Gasping for breath and clutching her chest, Aubrey perched on her chair with fear and trembling, but also a fair amount of pride. She had mastered her heart, she had mastered the simulation. But... at what cost? She looked over at Shay as the other girl seemed to awaken from her simulation later than Aubrey. Did that mean she had won? She had heard Shay's words, and struggled to desire to listen to them, as the truth in those words were too much for Aubrey to be able to admit. Shay had pushed her away and thus Aubrey had hated her in recent years for that. She didn't want to rethink that. She didn't want to figure out what would happen if they were to make amends. It was so much easier to keep hating her. Shivering, she could feel the sweat dripping off her body as she hopped off the chair. Charlie spoke, asking if she was okay, Aubrey didn't want to answer. "Did I win?" She asked instead, and heard Charlie affirm her. "Good." She replied, glancing at the two other girls. She looked at Shay. Are you okay? She wanted to ask, but then closed her mouth, spinning around and exiting the room.

She wasn't planning on going anywhere, in fact, she wasn't sure where there was to go. She could go look for Finn, but she didn't really want to right this moment, her body still trying to go back to normal after dying in the simulation. Although her body had been out of the simulation, the body followed a lot of what the mind thought and felt, so her body still felt like it had died and been shocked alive again. She grabbed a water bottle as she found a seat near the side of the main hall, her eyes gazing over to Ghost, Phillip and Bloom. She leaned back to relax as she drank the water. They couldn't be the first out, had the others come out of their sims already? Aubrey wondered, and looked around to see if any of her fellow initiates were out. IT seemed that many of them were still under. That was good. It meant that she hadn't taken so long as to be later... unless of course.. .everyone had indeed woken up already and had left, and training was finished? Aubrey doubted that, but the fear of that being true was almost worse than the simulation. Imagine if she had taken double, triple the length of others. In the end, all that matters is that you beat Shay, you get the points, you are going up. But for what? now that she had so ruined her family's life, and the man she had always looked up to was her half-sister's biological abusive father... AND the other man she looked up to was dead, and the boy she loved was gone, and... Aubrey shook her head. Was Shay okay? Was there something wrong with her? Another shitty thing to add to the list. She thought. She didn't want to feel pity for her. But she already did. She lay down on the bench, closing her eyes, but soon felt almost nauseous from doing that, as she sprung up, the stillness reminding her too much of the simulation. "Damn sim." She muttered as she rolled off the bench and began to do push ups. Anything to drown her thoughts and to bring her body back up to speed. Plus, she wanted to keep an eye on Ghost and from this position she could look up and see him, and she'd be able to see and hear when Charlie exited one of the rooms and entered another.

Ghost // Male // Age 18 // Officially Unemployed // Erudite to Dauntless

Between Aubrey revealing his identity to Jeremy Daniels, losing his job, and Charlie denying him last night, Ghost had so much rage bottled up inside him about so many things, that when Phillip snaked an arm around his shoulders, it all poured from him in a spurt, like shaken champagne violently uncorked. The touch felt intrusive, proprietary, as if Phillip were laying claim to a rare treasure, flaunting his possession of it for all to see. For the first time since he had caught Caspian sleeping with Leah, the vitriolic desire to hit something—or better yet, someone—rose up inside of Ghost until it swallowed him whole. Instead, deciding that Bloom already had enough reason to dismiss him from his former workplace, Ghost batted the arm away with one brusque shrug of his shoulders. He glared into Phillip’s mirthful face, a crooked smile plastered across despite Ghost’s discomfort, or perhaps because of it. Cocky bastard, Ghost thought, sucking in his cheeks before his tongue loosed the words. “Not your friend,” he said instead, the words barely above a whisper and with a dark undercurrent of foreboding, like an ominous wind sighing through a graveyard.
While Ghost’s show of quiet defiance had earned him a quirked brow from Bloom, Phillip was oblivious. He was all moonstruck eyes for the brunette female, a twinkle lighting them from within. Maybe it was because of the newfound tension in the air, but Ghost was strangely glad to see that Bloom didn’t reciprocate the mindless expression. Regarding Phillip with anything warmer than mere tolerance would have been truly nauseating. Ghost thought back to his conversation about the new instructor with Cassidy, and her eccentric words: I haven’t had the pleasure or distaste of meeting him. Distaste, Ghost decided. Definitely.
“So you’re going to make the already overworked medic watch them instead?” Ghost knew that he had nothing to gain from stirring the pot with Phillip, but until yesterday, this had been his job for two years, and he felt justified in commenting on Phillip’s lackluster work ethic. Nothing to gain, but nothing to lose anymore, either. Bloom shot him a warning look, but Ghost ignored it. He wasn’t her employee to command, and he hadn’t been the provocateur. If you don’t like what I have to say, Bloom darling, then put your new dog on a leash, he thought dryly, glancing at the freely roaming golden retriever encircling Phillip’s legs.
Rather than answer him, an eager, manic light had appeared in Phillip’s eyes. It was the kind of look that a robber lying in wait would wear when a mark with heavy pockets unknowingly strolled his way. Ghost’s relationship with his former roommate had rapidly deteriorated in Caspian’s final days, yet he still bristled at Phillip’s offhand mention of Caspian’s passing. “Unfortunately, grief for my late friend has put my search for a new roommate on a temporary hold,” he said with the thinnest veneer of civility. “I thought it’d be best to wait two weeks, out of respect for the dead.” Ghost pushed his lips into a cold, condescending smile. Phillip’s aspiration to move in with him sent another frisson of icy anger pumping through Ghost’s veins. “I think the word you’re looking for is incorrigible,” he intoned, drawing out his enunciation of the word. “Know what it means? It may behoove you to expand your vocabulary from just ‘fun.’” It was the same sort of sardonic retort that his nanny-turned-adoptive-grandmother, Margot, would have delivered, with her pinky raised in the air as she took a sip of bitter black tea.
Ghost knew that the simplest, most logical solution would have been to remove himself from the room. He’d organized his office supplies for easy transportation—at least, sorting items into roughly like piles was organized by Ghost’s standards—so he had no further reason to be here until he moved the stuff. But Ghost wasn’t motivated by simplicity or logic at the moment. All he knew was that walking away would have felt like surrender. Like slinking off his own turf with his tail between his legs. And he wouldn’t give Phillip the satisfaction of defeating him.
So it was almost a welcome distraction when a strangled cry erupted from one of the monitors with a crackle of static. A bolt of alarm shot through Ghost, cutting through his anger. His gaze flashed to the rows of boxed-off screens, one of which depicted Cassidy as she was in reality, sitting ramrod straight in her leather chair with eyes scrunched shut as if she never meant to open them again. Her lips parted in a silent scream. Bloom started at the burst of sound too, but Ghost was already in motion, crossing to the room into which Cassidy had disappeared at the conclusion of their conversation. “I've got this. You continue the new hire’s mentorship,” Ghost called to Bloom over his shoulder. He’d meant it helpfully, not in a way that would undermine Bloom’s authority, though he realized afterward that she might misconstrue it that way. Well, I have bigger things to worry about now, he thought grimly, opening the door to Cassidy and Fable’s testing room to a bloodcurdling scream.

The struggle to get to Aubrey’s side had left Shay with aches all over her body as nurses and doctors tried to pull her back. She watched as Aubrey’s heart monitor showed her heartbeats growing fainter and fainter and blinked as tears rolled down her face. This was only a simulation yet it felt like the worst layer of hell as she was told she had WANTED this for her friend and now was watching Aubrey die before her very eyes. She knew rationally no part of her would ever want such a thing, she was already at peace with her fate and would never dream of shoving it off onto someone else. “Aubrey…” The name fell from her lips as the heart monitor began to shriek its warning that the heart of the blonde strapped into the chair had stopped beating. Aubrey had found her way out. Shay knew it in an instant and knew that once again Aubrey had truly been far stronger than she could have. This fear was too much for Shay to reason with, even knowing it was a simulation and especially after all she had been through in the last twenty-four hours. Seeing Aubrey make her way out though allowed Shay to find it within herself to shove her way through the emotions and distress and claw her way back to sanity. Wrong move taking your eyes off of me. She thought with a smirk and turned towards the room where she had been in earlier. One of the walls was a window that seemed to lead out to nothingness, that or it was too dark outside to see the world around. Either way, Shayla knew her next course of action and carefully backed away from Aubrey’s lifeless form and back towards the room from earlier. With a running start, she aimed straight for the glass and hurled herself through, allowing herself to free fall into the darkness below.

Icey blue eyes fluttered open and quickly squinted in the sudden blinding light. Despite the Lull, Chris had given her just before the test Shay’s head was throbbing once again and it took her a moment to sit up. As she began to move the ebony-haired young woman became hyper-aware of the other figures in the room. As Charlie asked if they were alright Shay heard Aubrey avoid the question by asking if she had won. Typical. Shay thought but not in a bad way. Aubrey had always been competitive and Shay had no doubt that the blonde had likely been eager to try and beat her in a challenge like this. She hoped it didn’t quell the anger Aubrey felt too much. As much as it might hurt she would prefer that Aubrey continue to hate her rather than risk growing close again, Aubrey had already been through so much pain that Shay knew she couldn’t be the reason for more piling on. In all honesty, Shay was glad she had lost and Aubrey had won. It was Aubrey, not her, who had a shining future ahead of her. Shay only attempted initiation to ensure she wasn’t without a faction when she passed, an ambition that no longer held the fire it used to.

Avoiding both Charlie and Aubrey’s gazes Shay got to her feet, taking a moment to properly balance herself before making for the door. “I’m fine.” She called over her shoulder to Charlie, icey as ever and hurting with every word she spoke. Much like Aubrey Shay hated having to be mean to Charlie but the brunette was too kind, too easy to let in, she needed to keep her at a distance or else things could get emotionally messy. Pushing the door open Shay did everything she could to hide the fact that her hands were shaking. It was only as she reached the other side that she noticed the metallic taste in the back of her throat and felt the flow of liquid in her nose. “Shit.” She cursed as she held her hand up to her nose, wiping just above her lip and pulling her hand back to see the crimson liquid that painted her pale skin. As quickly as she could manage Shay got to the bathroom and leaned heavily against the sink. Grabbing bunches of paper towels the ebony-haired female held them to her nose and hoped the bleeding would stop soon. She was getting sick and tired of how frequent these nose bleeds were becoming and the booming pain in her head certainly didn’t help.

Nerdy. Nerdy.

Cassidy "Cas" Wickham || 16 || Initiate || Erudite Transfer

It didn't take Cassidy long to figure out the simulation. As usual, waking up in the simulation did not hold any confusion or frustration, although she was aware that for once her partner would have the same revelation as her. However I have had practice. She thought to herself as she began to move her head to look around. She was lying on a floor, her body ached with pain, a familiar feeling. The floor was not familiar to Dauntless (concrete) nor was it familiar to her factionless areas which had more or less felt the same, in fact this floor had floor boards and even a carpet, the walls were unusually bland of any colour or adornments. Abnegation then, at least that's what Cassidy guessed, based on the facts she could see and the fact that Fable was from Abnegation. It was at this point that she heard the cacophony of coughs and moans throughout the building. Was this a hospital? It didn't have any look of a hospital. That was when she heard the movement from in the room she lay in, moving her head with huge amounts of pain, she turned to see Fable who was sitting in this room with her with a haunted panicked look. Ahh, so this room in Abnegation held fear for her, then... Cassidy exhaustedly looked at the other body in the room and her heart squeezed with pain. Fear crept up her but didn't penetrate within. Griffon lay on the floor, his body weak and hardly moving apart from the deathly shiver that he had. His skin was sweating and going pale. Pathetic, Griffon can't sweat. Cassidy thought harshly, critiquing the ability of the simulation to make real events. As if responding to her thoughts, Griffon's skin stopped sweating, although he retained the shivering and deathly palour, Cassidy gritted her teeth together. Remember, you have some control here, don't do anything rash. She thought to herself. You want Fable to win. Trying to drag herself over to Griffon, Fable moved much faster than her, and Cassidy realized that Fable must not be suffering with the sickness that apparently she and Griffon were suffering from. Sickness? Or death? I am not afraid of sickness... She thought to herself, slowly beginning to figure out the fear that this simulation must be using from herself. She watched as Fable held Griffon's failing body and seemed to freak out as the door opened. The person who entered was unfamiliar to Cassidy, but she assumed that it was someone that Fable knew, as she reacted to them coming into the room with some distaste and shock. Cassidy mostly ignored the presence of whoever was there as she knew it didn't pertain to her. She knew what was going to happen in this simulation for her own fear, the only thing that could is that Griffon would die, and she would too. Thinking of it, even whilst knowing it was a simulation, did cause Cassidy to feel her heart throb with pain and heartache at the thought of Griffon dying. "Is he still alive?" Cassidy asked hoarsely, as if her voice were breaking apart, she waited till the people had left when she said those words. Fable nodded, but even as she nodded her eyes widened and she called Griffon's name, and Cassidy understood what was happening, he had died.

Fable freaked out, but surprisingly not as much as Cassidy would have imagined. Cassidy knew she needed to remain upset, if she was too calm she might win by accident. Cassidy began to let out a moan of sadness and she dragged her aching body to Griffons, squeezing his now lifeless body even as Fable attempted to perform CPR on him. His eyes were open in a haunted look, his skin already cold... It didn't matter that this was a simulation, no sister would ever want to see their brother dead, even in a knowing dream state. "Griffon!" Cassidy cried with pain truly in her voice. She collapsed in a shiver, her body sweating about as much as Griffon's had been before she'd thought too hard about it. Lying beside him weeping openly for her fake dead brother, Cassidy could still feel the affects of the high she was on even in the simulation, it was like an extra filter on the simulation that she had no desire to remove, it seemed to teeter on pleasant and alarmingly terrifying. "Are we in your old room? In Abnegation?" Cassidy asked Fable as her sobs had finally calmed slightly, yet at this point she could no longer move her legs. Fable nodded solemnly and her eyes continued to dart to the door. She talked about escape. "I'm not exactly..." Cassidy's body racked with painful coughs, coughs that she could feel so realisitcally that she wondered if she were coughing in her chair back in the testing room. She was hoping that Fable would escape without her. She knew she was meant to try fight this sickness, fight the pain of losing Griffon, and try to escape with Fable and find a way to live. But if she didn't do that, then Fable would win and not her. This was what she wanted. Unfortunately Fable, altruistically, thought it was a bright idea to pick her up. Cassidy knew her body would weigh almost nothing for Fable, and she hoped that this would suffice the simulation and give the win to Fable. If she continued to get sicker however, then it would have to give it to Fable... Thus, Cassidy began to try to cause herself to become weaker as they made their escape. Honestly, she may have done too good of a job, as her brain began to struggle with keeping up with what was happening in the simulation, she felt her body shiver and grow hotter and colder at the same time, her body was so sweaty that Fable struggle to carry her without slipping, she was coughing and throwing up frequently and she could feel her heart was doing some strange flips and pauses. However, the true fear spiked Cassidy as they exited the building. Outside of the building, stood her father, a menacing grin on his face. Cassidy screamed as the simulation reacted to her former thoughts on giving her heart weaknesses, and along with her genuine fear of seeing her father, her heart felt like it fully stopped.

Cassidy awoke with a heart wrenching cry as she scrambled up from her laid back position. Even now her heart felt like it wasn't working, she couldn't breathe! Gasping for air she held onto the side of the chair as her body shivered and her vision began to blur. She had no ability to try workout anything to do with the simulation, her only thought now was that she had messed up and messed with the simulation so much that it had actually tried to kill her. She believed that was possible. Her heart was beating so strangely, she could feel the pain in her chest as her body was telling her that it was not receiving the correct bloodflow and oxygen it needed. She screamed as a particularly painful beat of her heart felt like a stab to the chest, fearful that someone had entered the room and stabbed her. If they had she would not have been aware, as a mixture of the pain/fear of dying and the leftover high she was on mixed so unpleasantly. Her body began to topple off of the chair and it was at this point that she realized someone had indeed come into the room, as she was caught by two hands she would never have expected to find catching her. Her blurry vision could see that it was Ghost, and his look was truly one of concern. She was vaguely aware of Fable coming over with concern, but Ghost asking her to leave, and Cassidy was grateful for that, even as her heart again struggled to beat consistently and she had still yet to take a proper breath. Her skin was pale and discoloured. Ghost spoke to her, and she did not know what he was saying specifically, but she made out a few words. "Help" "Hypnotism". Cassidy wasn't even sure if she had heard those words correctly but she nodded, the feeling making her want to throw up. "Help.... please..." She cried, her voice harsh. Ghost began speaking, and Cassidy allowed herself to sink into whatever it was he was saying or doing. The slow steady way he was talking made her feel much more secure, and she could feel as her body began to react in a good way, taking a deep breath, her heart steadying to a proper rhythm, her mind clearing and becoming more foggy at the same time. Her mind seemed to sail high, to take a step back from her body and let it recover without the overreaction of her feelings and thoughts. The pain still ebbed, her chest still felt like it had been stabbed, but her skin began to bring back its colour, and her body began to stop shivering and shaking. Ghost seemed to be asking her a question or two. Simple things. Where was she? "Dauntless. Training rooms." She answered, her voice steadier than before. Her eyes began to flit over to Ghost's, looking into his coppery eyes with slow steady blinks, her own were still blurry and unfocused. What had caused her to panic? She shivered. She immediately imagined her father, and her mouth began to respond before her mind could stop it. "My fa... family.... Griffon... he died... I.. I died..." She saved herself, hoping that Ghost didn't notice her quick adjustment. She was beginning to see much more clearly. "I thought I really was dying when I woke up..." She said, and her mind continued to think of the different realities and possibilities. "Maybe going into a simulation high is a bad idea." She tried to laugh, but struggled as she still tried to catch her breath. That was when she heard Ghost's question next, why had she been high going into the simulation? Cassidy looked into his eyes again, this time with a tad more focus. She was aware that she had agreed he could use some form of hypnotism, but she was surprised at how calm she was now, and how her body had calmed itself, in fact, she was surprised at how she was quite happy to want to answer him. But not so happy that she would possibly say something terribly stupid. "Now... why would I give that information out without something in return?" Cassidy said with a weak but wry smile. Tilting her head to look at him much like a raven or crow might as it watches something it was interested in.

Griffon || 18 17 || Initiate || Abnegation Transfer

The simulation was over, although Griffon wasn't quite sure what the end result had been, they had run, and run and run... Had he beaten it or.... He turned to look towards Briony and saw that she was already up, that was a good sign. Had she won? Most likely she had, she was very strong and very capable and Griffon had enjoyed his small interaction with her, he didn't know her well, like most of the initiates, but he enjoyed meeting and interacting with every one of them. Swiping his hand through his hair and smiling at Briony, he hopped down just as she spoke, declaring that she needed a drink. "Oh, I can grab you a drink of water if you like, they always keep water bottles just outside." He said helpfully, watching as Briony, clearly surprised, turned to look at him and seemed to chuckle softly, almost in a girlish giggly way. She didn't take long in correcting Griffon's misunderstanding, letting him know that what she meant was that she wanted to go out and get drinks at a bar. Griffon blushed as he realized his mistake. "Oh I uh... I'm sorry I misunderstood." He said bashfully, nervously swipipng his hands on his vest. Briony made it known to Griffon that it was no worries and that there was nothing to be sorry about, it was funny and sweet. Griffon nodded, but he remembered he had a job to do. After every simulation he was meant to write down h is experience, even if it seemed pointless. A stampede of cows? Massive black ferocious dogs? Being in the fields and running towards the city? These were the things that Griffon noted down quickly in his journal, trying to put in as much detail as he could, although straining his brain as he realized that even now he couldn't remember certain details, like the breed of dog or even what colour cattle it was, nor could he even rightly recall what the city could look like. But he was sure that he got the majority of the simulation down in the right order and context. Because it was based on two fears, his and Briony 's, he was sure that it wasn't nearly as accurate to history as his private and personal ones had been. "Hey Briony... Were the dogs your fear?" He asked, as she was getting up to leave. She nodded. "Ah, I have a fear of dogs as well as a fear of stampedes, so I was unsure of if they were both mine or if we shared fears. Good job by the way." He congratulated her for his presumption of her victory,, or otherwise congratulated her for being so exceptionally brave. She smiled at him and jcongratulated him also, before exiting the room. Griffon took a little bit more time to think as he stood in the room by himself. The cattle, although he could not remember them visually, he could remember them with strange prrecise audible memory. Closing his eyes he thought about them, firstly focusing on them in the simulation. The sound of their breaths coming out of their frustrated and inflamed nostrils. Then the sound of their hooves on the ground, the sound of their braying and roars, and the sound of bones crunching. He opened his eyes. Bone's crunching? That had not been in the simulation. That... that was a memory! Excitement bubbled up in him,, erasing the shivers of fear that had been crawling up his spine as he relived those thoughts. At some poiunt in his history a herd of stampeding cattle must have crushed his bones! As he thought that, with elation and joy at remembering something, he realized his own thoughts and shivered even more. A herd of stampeding cattle had crushed his bones?! The idea of that filled him with fear. Had that really happened? He had to ask Cassidy when he remembered.

Exiting the simulation room, he cringed softly as he heard the patter of paws of Honey roaming around the room. She seemed like a lovely dog and Griffon was friendly and loving towards all animals, even the ones he feared, but he wasn't having a great time listening to her roaming around right after having faced such a terrifying form of dog in his and Briony's simulation. As he looked around he tried to make note of who else was out. There were a few, and his eyes were looking for some in particular, although none of them were... As he was thinking this, he suddenly heard a scream, and it was a scream he knew well, although he had not heard it in a very very very long time. Moving his head around with quick movements his eyes widened as he tried to look for her. Cassidy. Where was she? That was her scream, and a scream of pain and terror. That was when he saw Ghost running towards a door, and Bloom and Phillip watching in concern. He watched for a second, then followed him, running over and watching as Ghost entered the room and slammed the door behind him. Griffon would have done the same if he had gotten to the door soon after Ghost, but before he could even reach the door, Fable exited, shutting the door behind her. "Fable? What's going on?" Griffon asked as he ran over to her. As Fable turned to look at him, Griffon swore he could see remnants of tears in her eyes. The mismatched colours gazed over him and he saw them widen, then she ran to him, flinging her arms around him and squeezing him. Griffon didn't hesitate to reciprocate the embrace, his arms squeezing his sister with love, affection and protection. Whatever simulation she had gone through had shaken her. It must have shaken Cassidy too. Although now she had stopped screaming. It was so unlike Cas. She was always calm and collected. He nervously watched the door, even as he held Fable and rocked her ever so gently while they stood there. "What's wrong? Are you okay? Was the simulation very hard?" Griffon asked, not hearing Fable's replies but feeling as her head nodded in reply. He sighed, resting his cheek on the top of her head. "You can tell me about it if you like. Mine was just a stampeding herd of cattle and big scary dogs." Griffon said, already having shaken off the fear of it after having heard his sister's scream. Griffon listened to whatever Fable had to say, and he simply gave her a soothing rub on the arm and continued to hold her. His grip was strong, firm and protective, unbreakable even. He would let go only if Fable desired it. Once she had finished, Griffon finally asked the next question. "Is Cas okay?" He asked, and listened as Fable described that in the simulation she had been unwell, and so she wasn't sure what had scared her so much when she woke up, but that she was freaking out. Griffon tilted his head as he looked at the door. Cas freaking out? That was... basically unheard of. Griffon wasn't sure he'd ever seen her freak out or panic at anything. Although, he couldn't remember all of their life together, so that wasn't anything huge to go on.

After a little while, not too long, Fable mentioned that she wanted to get a drink of water, or go to the bathroom, or something of the sort. Griffon nodded in reply and let her go, making sure to give her a loving squeeze beforehand so she felt his love as she walked off. Griffon stood and waited for Cas to exit, wanting to make sure she was okay. But that's when the other important person came out of their simulation room. Aya. Griffon felt a spark of excitement as he saw Aya coming out, and he waved to her, starting to walk over, though glancing at the door that barred him from Cas for a moment, before continu ing onwards. "Aya. How did you do?" He asked, coming beside her and smiling. He listened as she spoke of her simulation and how it had been. Griffon nodded. "That doesn't sound fun at all. I wish we could have pleasant simulations for once. I wonder if that's even possible." He mused. Aya turned the question back to him. "Ah yes, mine was interesting. A herd of cattle stampeding towards me and Briony because they were being chased by monstrous giant black dogs. I think Briony won, she was so fast and resourrceful." He shrugged. He knew he should be more competitive, but he couldn't help just be glad someone else won, so that he didn['t feel stink for making them lose. He and Aya stood there for a few moments. "I was waiting for Cas to come out before you got out, Fable said she came out of the simulation really rough, I heard her scream. Ghost is with her though, so I'm waiting for them to come out on their own, I don't want to intrude." He said. Aya looked concerned and Griffon mirrored that concern, both having close relationships with Cas and only wanting good for her. After a little bit of silence and simply standing near each other, Griffon felt more desire to continue conversation and interaction, and he shuffled his feet awkwardly. "Would you want to go to the rooftops? We... didn't do our morning routine up their this morning. I would love to go up with you, if you wanted." He said, awkwardly as if he were asking her on an extravagant date, even though it was something they both usually did anyway. He looked at her in hope, eyes alight with gentle desire.

Fable

Mood: Determined

Location: Testing Center

Interactions: Cas, Mentions Ghost

Positioned protectively over Griffon with her mismatched eyes blazing with caution and rage Fable wished she could spit poison at the sight of her parents. She hated that the simulation had made them so realistic but that was the program's job and so she did her best to allow it to fuel her rather than hinder her. “Get out.” She hissed, her voice chilling yet her parents didn’t seem to care. Her father took a step forward, her mother matching his step like a tiny shadow just behind him, and the duo looked around the room at Fable, Cas, and Griffon. “Get the hell out of here!” Fable growled her voice dripping with malice as this fear turned to rage was almost therapeutic for her. It pissed her off more than anything how her father only looked at her, his face expressionless and his eyes as cold as ever. Fable was tensing her muscles in order to strike when finally her parents began to speak and their words were poison to her ears. They informed her all about how sickness had fallen upon Dauntless and Abnegation had been forced to step in. That the hospitals all across the city were overflowing with patients thus the homes of Abnegation opened their doors and those formerly of Dauntless would be staying with them. By the way in which her father said that part it was clear to Fable that the simulation meant she was supposed to stay for good, not just for a few days or weeks. Hell no. The fiery redhead thought to herself and selected a few special words for her parents, the sentences greatly laced with threats as she made it clear they would need to get away from her, Griffon, and Cas. “I’m not staying here.” She muttered to herself as the door closed.

It was only once her parents left that her defensive position blocking Griffon loosened a bit and Fable once again glanced at Cas. Hearing the dark-haired girl ask about their brother Fable initially told her he was alive, he had been just before her parents entered, but when she looked back she noticed how still he was. “Shit! Shit no! Griff! Griffon don’t you dare!” She gasped and dropped to her knees, ignoring the painful crunch of them hitting the solid ground, and began checking his vitals. With tears streaming down her cheeks as she felt no pulse and heard no heartbeat she began to give him CPR. There was no way in hell she would ever let Griffon die without trying to save him in some way. She could hear Cas’s sobs and coughs as she clearly grieved for their lost sibling but she did not care as he attention was solely on trying to revive Griffon. Even knowing this was a simulation Fable felt her heart torn to pieces and her soul shattered like glass. She knew that outside this simulation Griffon was alive but seeing him dead, even pretend, it devastated her. Fable gave all she could to try and bring her brother back from the grip of death but it seemed that the simulation had made up its mind and this version of Griffon was gone forever. Feeling slightly numbed then extremely enraged Fable turned and looked around the room that felt like a prison and made her skin crawl and the scars on her back and shoulders burn. “We have to go.” Her voice was soft yet serious, still choked with emotion as she turned to face Cas who was still on the floor shivering with sickness. Not waiting for an answer from the other girl Fable reached down and began to haul her up into her arms. She was well aware that her own fear was to be trapped in Abnegation for the rest of her life so she figured the best way for her to beat the simulation was for her to get the hell out of Abnegation.

It wasn’t an easy journey as she felt Cas grow into more and more of a dead weight in her arms. Carrying the sweaty and sick young woman was easy at the start but as she grew sweatier and lost more and more energy it became far more challenging. Still Fable refused to leave Cas behind as she made her great escape from Abnegation. It killed her that she was having to leave Griffon in any form in this pit of snakes but she could at least do her part to try and get Cas out. Sneaking through the halls and down sets of stairs Fable had to pause and wait at several points for her parents or others like them to pass. It almost reminded her of a video game she had played at the arcade once where one character tries to sneak around a maze without being seen by another character or a patrol. The building was far larger than Fable remembered it being but still she pushed onward, her brow furrowed in fierce determination as she went floor by floor until finally she reached the bottom. With the front door just a few feet ahead of her Fable adjusted a weak and barely breathing Cas in her arms and hurled herself towards the door, the sound of Abnegation members just behind her.

As she crashed through the door in the simulation Fable blinked her eyes open and sat up with a jolt. She was back in the real world, the sound of following feet dying in her ears as all she could hear was the machines and people around her. Looking over at Cas she could see that the other girl was jolting awake too and Fable’s brow furrowed in confusion. Which of them had won? Looking around she could see that Cas clearly wasn’t doing well and jumped off of her chair to go check on her. As she approached Ghost appeared at Cas’s side and told her to give Cas space and that he would look after her. Despite Ghost no longer being an instructor Fable didn’t have a desire to argue the matter with him and so she turned away to see if she could spot Griffon or Chris in the growing crowd of waking initiates. She still couldn’t help but wonder if she or Cas had won.

Nerdy. Nerdy.

Ghost // Male // Age 18 // Officially Unemployed // Erudite to Dauntless

Cassidy’s breathing was ragged and fast, like a sprinter, or like a cornered feral animal whose only option was to destroy everything—including herself. As Ghost threw the door to the testing room open, a strangled sound halfway between a gasp and a cry of anguish left her lips. It was only because he was already in motion that he was able to lunge forward just in time and wrap hands around her shoulders as Cassidy tumbled forward out of her chair. “Hey, Cassidy, it’s over, the simulation’s over,” he soothed in a swift stream of words. But apparently his words weren’t soothing enough, because they seemed to startle Cassidy. At the sound of his voice, she jerked upright like a marionette on strings, the top of her head clipping Ghost under the chin. He grunted as his back teeth clicked together. As pain ricocheted through his skull, it was all he could do to keep holding Cassidy up, lest she collapse to the floor. Her thin frame quivered and quaked against him; Ghost was uncertain whether she was hyperventilating or sobbing.
As the dark circles cleared from his vision, Ghost became aware of the room’s other occupant—Fable—staring openly at the display. Her eyes were wide and she sat on the edge of her chair, as if she wanted to leap to her competitor’s aid but was unsure how. “Congratulations, Fable, you won the contest,” Ghost declared, his praise sincere. “Now, if you would give Cassidy and me a little space, please? I’ll take care of her from here.” The request was phrased as a question, but Ghost voiced it in a way that brooked no argument. To his relief and surprise, Fable skulked out of the room like a shadow, smooth and silent. She was compassionate to the point of stubbornness, and he’d half-expected her to argue that Cassidy would be in better hands with her present. The door sighed shut in the wake of Fable’s exit, and soon enough the only sound in the room was Cassidy’s high-pitched keening. Through the fabric of her shirt, Ghost could feel her heart slamming against his chest where their bodies touched. With gentle hands, he eased her into a seated position as a series of shudders undulated through her body in waves.
“Get it together, Cassidy,” he said in a firmer voice. “You’re tougher than this. You’ve been through worse.” Ghost didn’t know anything about Cassidy, so he had no idea what her version of worse entailed, but he suspected that she never would have lasted to the final phase of Dauntless initiation if she was a stranger to adversity. “Whatever you saw, whatever you felt—it wasn’t real.” To his dismay, his words had the opposite effect of calming her. Ghost leapt back just in time to avoid being struck with a flailing limb. Cassidy’s face was scrunched in a rictus of pain as she writhed in the chair like a woman being immolated from within. Before she hurt herself or destroyed invaluable software, Ghost leaned forward and gently pinned her wrists to the arms of the chair. “Cassidy, you need to calm the fuck down or I’m going to have to send you to the infirmary,” he said with steely stoicism. “So let’s save us both a lot of trouble, hm?”
At that, Cassidy emitted such a tormented cry that liquid fear lanced through Ghost, and he knew the sound would forever be ingrained in his brian. His eyes flashed to a transparent shelf of drawers in the room’s far corner. He really didn’t want to sedate Cassidy, but if her current state persisted any longer, she wouldn’t give him a choice. “Cassidy,” he asked with forced calm. He swallowed a mouse-sized lump. A desperate, ridiculous idea had occurred to him. “I’m going to hypnotize you to help you relax. Is that okay?” When her only response was a great heaving breath, Ghost repeated, “Is it okay if I hypnotize you? I think it will help you.” At that, Cassidy suddenly stilled. And then, two nearly unintelligible words clawed their way out of her throat. Help… please. Her voice was the chew of gravel. Ghost sucked in his cheeks as he deliberated. Reluctantly, he took it as the permission he needed.
After watching a street magician hypnotize a crippled woman into believing that she was a prima ballerina, Ghost had studied the practice of hypnosis. But it had never been anything more than a brief yet intense fascination for him, preceded by a phase for solving Rubik’s cubes and succeeded by one for graffiti art. While he had learned much of the theory and some of the basic techniques, he had never attempted to induce a hypnotic state in real life, on another human being. Truthfully, Ghost doubted his ability to hypnotize anyone. But so long as Cassidy believed that she was hypnotized was all that mattered. And if there was one thing Ghost was good at, it was embellishing the truth and creating a story from it.
He slowly settled into the chair next to Cassidy that Fable had occupied minutes ago, using the action to stall for time as he gathered his thoughts. He cleared his throat. And then he began. “What if, you were to imagine, yourself at the top of a ten-step staircase? The room is dark. It smells musty with disuse, like old books. The air is dank and thick with humidity. It presses against your skin in a comforting way… like a hug from an old friend.” Cassidy’s eyes had been glued to the door like she expected a monster to walk through at any moment, but at the word friend, her gaze swung toward Ghost. He paused deliberately. When he resumed, his voice was a decibel softer. The words paced leisurely.
“What if, as you squint into the semi-darkness… you see a door at the base of this ten-step staircase? If you were to… take a step down… and then another, you would find yourself more relaxed. At the door is a state of total calm. Which is exactly what you want, right… Cassidy?” Ghost’s voice continued in a decrescendo until it was on the verge of a whisper. He almost didn’t recognize the stranger’s intonations issuing from him, a rich sound that originated deep from within the solar plexus, laden with unhurried breaths. Cassidy’s chair creaked as she leaned toward him to hear. Her eyes strayed to the left.
“On the other side of the door is… everything you experienced in your fear simulation. But to reach the door, you must first be… totally… relaxed. Which happens gradually… as you descend the… ten-step staircase. When you feel brave enough, you open… the… door.” Ghost’s voice suddenly sharpened to a needlepoint. “Now what do you see, Cassidy?” Her eyes veered to him. For just an instant, dark and awful shadows danced in their depths. And then, like a curtain being drawn back, they lightened. She answered the question in halting breaths, but not uncertain ones. It was a pensive slowness, a period of reflection meant to untangle truth from fiction. Ghost noted the way she crossed one leg over the other, angling her body to better face him. He nodded once in response to her admission. “The intersection of family and death can be a painful subject.” A name from Cassidy’s answer jumped out at him: Griffon. Ghost was unsure how the unassuming Abnegation initiate fit into Cassidy’s narrative of family and death—perhaps she feared her family’s disapproval of a relationship with the boy would be deadly in nature?—but understanding Cassidy’s insecurities was secondary to his goal of calming her down.
Before Ghost could walk her through another metaphor, a bleat of nervous laughter broke free from Cassidy. Her words came so quickly that Ghost almost didn’t catch what she said. But when they registered, he found himself unsurprised. “Do you mean to say that you were high during today’s contest?” He asked it more as a segue into a new topic than out of a need for confirmation. Cassidy’s dilated pupils and sleep-slurred speech from earlier had struck him as suspicious, and now he knew the reason why. “What made you want to get high before testing today, Cassidy?” She giggled girlishly, as if she knew a secret that she would yield only for a piece of information of equivalent value. Relief that her panic had subsided welled up inside Ghost. Despite that, or maybe because of it, he found himself mirroring her grin. Surprise briefly flickered through him that she would try to push for something in return, but amusement outweighed it.
“Now what is it that you want in return?” Ghost asked, smothering a laugh. Cassidy made a show of thinking about it, her eyes flicking to the ceiling. Then she leaned toward Ghost, as if her next words would be infinitely scandalous. Her breath blazed hot against his cheek as she said, One of your secrets. Exasperation settled heavily over Ghost. Dear god, what a mess I’ve made, he grumbled internally, wondering why he’d thought introducing Cassidy to hypnosis would be a good idea. “If I tell you a secret, do you promise not to get high at all tomorrow? Before, during, or after testing.” Cassidy bobbed her head in eager agreement. Ghost sighed, feeling as though he’d made a deal with the devil: the outcome inevitable but the path negotiable.
He moistened his lips as he thought of what secret to tell Cassidy. Trying to gauge the rhythm of their conversation for inspiration. Several beats passed, and finally, he started, “My mother used to make the best baklava. But it wasn’t traditional baklava; she put her own spin on it, with a coconut filling and pecans instead of walnuts. It was simultaneously so sweet and airy that you could eat an entire pan of it and still be hungry for more. The baklava would just fall apart in your mouth, and the cream combined with the pastry? That shit hit. No one’s baklava held a candle to hers.” Ghost’s gaze shifted uncomfortably away from Cassidy, landing on the monitor that displayed the fear simulations. He’d been an initiate in Cassidy’s place only two years ago, yet the memory he was describing felt like a separate lifetime altogether. Ghost’s identity split into two neat categories: Dauntless, and everything before. “But my mother is dead now. Has been, for a while. And to this day, I can’t bring myself to eat baklava, because it’s just too much to think about.” He offered Cassidy a sad smile. A bittersweet emotion wrapped him up in an embrace, and it took Ghost a second to recognize it. Nostalgia wasn’t something he often felt. Not wanting her pity, he cleared his throat decisively. “Now, tell me why you got high.”

Aya.

Aya wasn’t afraid of the height and she actually enjoyed being up higher then normal. She was an artist so having an almost Birds Eye view was magnificent had it not been overlooking an ocean recently. There was so much about the deep body of water that was below them that was unknown. The large mass of water could swallow them whole, taking them clear under to never be seen again. Was her fear about the water itself, suffocating under the water, or perhaps just not knowing what lurked underneath. It could be any of the three or maybe all three of them combined if she was being honest with herself about the situation. Her parents had been a real fear, something she could physically touch and fight back if needed. However within the water she would be at its mercy the waves beating her around like a leaf caught in the wind. The thoughts had her frozen for a moment all it would take was one wrong step and she would plummet into the sea. Her friends' faces flickered in her mind. Cas and Griffon if she drowned they would never know what happened to her.

The thoughts were startled away when a voice cut through the darkness that was her mind. It was Thorn who seemed to start rambling on about something she couldn’t quite understand at first. Her mind was not catching up with the words just yet though he was clearing her mind the more he babbled on. She would in the waking world usually be a bit annoyed by someone over sharing with her. Aya did not like being overwhelmed with information nor did she like being talked to at such a rapid pace. Though this time it seemed to help ground her once more as his words finally caught on and she was able to concentrate. The fear was slipping away if only enough to know how to act now. She wasn’t sure what to feel at first when he suddenly grabbed her hand mainly due to the cliff crumbling down around them like a toddler breaking a cookie into pieces. It wasn’t much longer before the two of them were forced to the edge of the cliff; it was to jump or crash into the sea below. She gave his hand a light squeeze back then with a small nod leapt off the cliff with him. The two hit the surface below as water crashed over them both their hands slipping from one another as the waves rocked them violently plummeting them both down as the rocks tumbled into the sea around them. Aya kicked with all her might and had a great gasp as she breached the surface not only of the water but the waking world. She was sitting up the gasp still leaving her body she heard Thorn next to her the two of them having woken up at the exact same time. It was a very rare occurrence as they were informed they tied both having truly woken up at the same time.

Aya just simply nodded wanting to head out of there wondering how Cas and Griffon had done with their own testing. She looked over at Thorn now realizing all of what he had said in the simulation. The male had seemed to force a happy act not due to fear but just simply forcing himself to be happy it had seemed. “If you are free tomorrow Thorn would you like to get a coffee?”she asked him. It was a simple gesture of perhaps something that could be friendship. It would be nice having some friends of her own. She obviously had Cas and Griffon no matter what however she often found herself with whomever they had as friends. So it would be nice having someone she could simply talk with that was her own friend. Once he answered she would smile and nod some.``Okay we can figure out a time and place later then meet then.”she said, having given him her cell phone number. She waved him goodbye before heading out of the door where she was quickly greeted by Griffon. “It wasn’t very pleasant. It was my fear of deep bodies of water. Thorns of heights so we were on a large crumbling cliff surrounded by nothing but ocean.”she said before going into a bit more detail before listening as he said that really hadn’t been pleasant.”How about you? What was your test like?”she asked then listened as he told her about his.”Oh that doesn’t sound like a very good time either.”she commented before he went on telling her about Cas. She looked concerned as he explained even further her gaze looking around hoping Cas would emerge soon. However her focus shifted back to Griffon once he asked her if she would like to head to their usual spot. She watched him seeing his eyes light up with hope and the color appeared on his cheeks. Aya smiled warmly at him.``Of course id like to go up there with you. Should we grab anything or just our usual stuff?”she asked him.

Bloom

Mood: Mixed

Location: Testing Center

Interactions: Phillip, Mentions: Ghost, Thorn, Aya

Ghost’s question about her having enemies felt like a thorn sticking her over and over in her mind. While that conversation had died and been replaced by Phillip and Ghost behaving like children Bloom still couldn’t shake the coldness that it had brought upon her. Did she have enemies? Yes, and with some of the last people anyone would expect. Bloom’s enemies were the high-ranking families of the Amity faction, the ones she knew still carried resentment in their hearts for her and would gladly see her in the ground with the rest of her family. They had no proof of her involvement in the murder of their golden child, the prince of Amity himself, Druid Huntington, but still, they hated her. Honestly, Bloom knew very well that while the evidence wasn’t there to prove her involvement the Huntington family still figured she was responsible. She had been his girlfriend from the wrong side of Amity, the wretched creature he had taken interest in, the plaything he fooled into thinking he cared for but truly only wanted one thing from. His family knew he wasn’t a saint and yet they painted him as such after his death and made Bloom the vial demon that stole him away and got him killed. Luckily they had no idea that she had been the one to deal the killing blow, that she had murdered him in order to save herself and in retaliation of her father's death by his hands. While that had happened years ago Bloom knew hatred like that never died, it only bubbled and festered like an infected wound. Yes, she had enemies, enemies that would see her dead if they had the chance which she never planned on giving them.

All while Ghost and Phillip went back and forth, Phillip testing the water with Ghost, and Ghost retaliating with pointed words, Bloom felt the phantom memories of that night and the months after tickling her mind. She did her best to still contribute to the situation around her, making known her feelings on the current activities and conversations between the two males to the best of her abilities all while still trying to keep her focus on the testing initiates. She knew Phillip was having fun poking at Ghost but she also knew that Ghost wasn’t as laid back as Phillip and wouldn’t appreciate the prodding. She gave both of them warning glances when she deemed necessary, and laughed when she felt appropriate, but mostly she tried to push the memories of Amity away and do her job. It was very clear to her that she and Charlie wouldn’t be convincing the two lads to do a double date any time soon based on this interaction. Before she had a chance to comment on Ghost’s condescending behavior towards Phillip over his vocabulary an alarm suddenly started blaring and she jumped into action. It was clear on the screen before her that the situation was unfolding in the room where Cas and Fable were testing. Cas had come out of the simulation in a fit that instantly had the brunette instructor worried that they might have a repeat of medical emergencies from yesterday. Rushing towards the room with Ghost ahead of her and Phillip behind she was about to enter when Ghost told her he would handle it and she should return to training Phillip and watching the other initiates. While some might have taken this as a hit to their pride Bloom was grateful for the extra help. Ghost was experienced, he had been doing the job longer, just because he was a day out of the business didn’t mean she would stop him from being useful. Her pride was not so important to her that she would risk an initiate just to cater to it.

Giving Cas a quick look just to see if she was physically harmed like Shayla had been yesterday Bloom finally turned and started making her way back to her setup. She believed that if something serious happened, something life-threatening, Ghost would have the sense to fetch Charlie and alert her so she could assist. For now, she would continue to observe the simulations and be there for the initiates as they woke. “Come on Phillip, watch from here with me.” She invited him. She knew he would have to get used to being alone in the room with the initiates as they were unconscious in simulations but for now, she just needed him to understand what they were looking for and monitoring as the simulations went on. Pointing to the screen that showed Thorn and Aya’s simulation she selected the heart monitors. “This is where you can watch and take note of their heart rates.” She began to explain to him and walked him through the interface further. Her words began to trail off though as she realized something extremely unusual was happening in the simulation. “They’re working together.” She pointed out and nodded towards Thorn and Aya who were now holding hands on the edge of a cliff. “Even their heart rates are behaving similarly.” Her voice was laced with surprise as she watched the duo carefully and noticed both of them calming down and suddenly jumping together off the cliff and into the waves below. As soon as Thorn and Aya entered the dark water the simulation ended and the results appeared on the screen. “Phillip…they tied.” She turned to look at the dark-haired male beside her, her mint-green gaze bright with surprise. “I didn’t think that could happen, at least not so easily.”

Nerdy. Nerdy.

Christian Parks || 16 || Initiate || Dauntlessborn

Christian watched as Vex descended on him like a crow. Her body flew down the fireescape quickly and nimbly, much faster than he could descend. He knew he had to jump. Grabbing the edge of the barrier he sprung himself over and tried to aim for the car below, hoping it would break his fall a little bit more than the concrete ground. The slam of his body on the car was so realistic that it almost made him forget that this was a simulation, but not quite. He heard a scuttering sound and then a leap, and looked up to see Vex leaping down atop of him. He only barely managed to bring his legs up to kick at her, and felt the contact of his legs to her waist area. He rolled off of the car, the alarm wailing loudly. Not helpful to his escape. Turning quickly he pulled his arms up in time to protect his face from Vex's fists. Neither of them had weapons, so it was an hand to hand combat. He knew they had both done well from their time during physical training, and he knew Vex had many skills in fighting. So did Chris though. That's when the scuffle truly began. It seemed to go on forever. Each person getting in about the same amount of shots to each other. Chris had the feeling that Vex wasn't trying as hard as she possibly could. She was pulling her punches and aiming for non lethal spots. He didn't think it was simply his extraordinary ability, but he hoped that it was partially his own skills. There was not enough time nor enough energy for them to speak during their battle, and after a small while both were sweating and bruised from the impacts. Chris hated it, he hated how it felt to slam his fists and legs onto Vex's smaller, beautiful body. The way it felt to hurt a friend was so awful that it pained him, he knew she could feel it too, it wasn't a fake Vex, this Vex was real in one way, even if her body wasn't actually in the simulation, she would be feeling this like it was. Chris himself was in pain but it was no bother to him, he never truly minded being in pain, it was fine. The more pain he gave to Vex the more he was hurting on the inside though, and he knew he was subconsciously pulling his punches by the end of it. Maybe Vex was waiting for that, because as he starting pulling his punches, she started enhancing hers, and it wasn't long before she got a good shot on his legs, downing him, and then assaulting his jugular with some rapid punches. That's when he woke up, moments after Vex. She was sitting on her chair looking rather proud of herself. Chris lifted his hand to touch his neck gently, it still felt a bit tender, even though he knew they hadn't actually fought in real life. "Nice one." He said, remarking on her last move. "I'll have to do that one sometime." He said, smiling at her and hopping off of the chair. The two felt no need to say anything more, and instead exited the room together, before parting ways. Although, Chris grabbed Vex's arm at the last moment. "Can we go visit... later?" He asked, his voice soft and for her ears only. Vex gave him a sweet smile, her smooth fingers tracing circles on his arm as she slid her arm out of his hand. She assured him that she would check and see if that was in the plan. Chris nodded, and watched as Vex left, before turning around to see who else was around. He was surprised to see many others already awake and out of their simulation rooms. His simulation had felt like a while, so he wasn't terribly surprised, but it must have been a lot of fast wins for some people.

It was at this time that Chris's eyes fell upon Fable as she seemed to take her leave of Griffon. Chris watched as she walked off and out of training. Not having anyone else to interact with in that current moment, he began walking in that direction, but was quickly stopped before he could get to the doors. A familiar female voice spoke to him and he turned, seeing Aubrey raising from where she had been doing some push ups, her body sweaty and red from the physical exertion. Chris glanced back towards where Fable had gone, and considered telling Aubrey he was busy, but knew that it was altogether likely that Fable didn't even want to have anyone go talk with her, so for now he would talk with Aubrey and try to find Fable later. "Hey Aubrey, what's up? How did your sim go?" He asked, coming over to where she was and leaning against a nearby pillar, looking down at the girl who had once been his girlfriend. He was glad that he and Aubrey still had a good relationship, neither felt the need to feel bad about their relationship ending, neither wanted it to begin again, but both of them felt a unique bond that hadn't snapped yet. Even if they were both going through stuff, and didn't talk for ages, they always had each other's backs and were always looking out for each other. She seemed pretty chuffed when he mentioned the sim, and told him that she had beaten it. "What fear was it?" Christian asked, curious to what it was that she had been afraid of. As Aubrey explained that it was her fear of being unable to move, and then explained briefly how she was able to get out of it, he nodded his head impressed. "That's amazing Aubrey, I don't think I would have ever thought of that. Mine was pretty easy, although Vex beat me." He said, not bothering to explain it, and not being asked by Aubrey to do so. She looked a little bummed that Chris hadn't won as well, but moved on from that. She began speaking about going out for drinks, saying that she and Briony wanted to sometime this evening or whenever they had free time. Chris was about to say he couldn't, but then he paused. He had never had alcohol, never gone out for drinks before. His doctors had always told him he could never have alcohol while on the drugs he'd been prescribed, but... he hadn't been on those drugs for a long time now. Suddenly a deep urge to go out and have drinks came over him. "I'd love to! That sounds really fun. I... have some stuff on today but give me a text or a call if you guys are going and I'll try to join you." He said, watching as Aubrey gave a genuine grin at the prospect of Chris joining them. He smiled in return and looked around for Briony, she seemed to be occupied doing something else, so he simply said goodbye to Aubrey and headed off to see if he could find Fable.

Walking out of the training area, he began to make his way down the hall, his hands in his pockets. As he neared the bathrooms, he saw as Fable exited from the woman's bathroom. "Fable!" He said, waving to her as she turned in surprise to hear someone calling her name after exiting the bathroom. But the smile she gave him was sweet and she seemed glad to see him. She waved back and they both walked to meet each other in between. Fable mentioned that she felt like they hadn't spoken or spent any time together in a while. Chris nodded. "I've been rather preoccupied recently, and dealing with a lot of things. But I think I'm relatively free most of the time now, if you ever wanted to hang out." He said, a twinkle in his blue eyes as he thought about the idea of spending time with her. He was spending time with so many people now. His mind thought to Vex and Dr Munro, Briony and Aubrey, Fable, Shay... If he thought back merely a month ago, or maybe a bit longer, he was a dull, grey person with no emotion, or he was so angry he would hurt even those he loved. Now... Now he was calm, he was happy, he was even excited for things and had emotions and desires. "Anyway, I saw you leaving just before and wanted to ask how you were? How was your sim?" He asked, his voice soft and caring, genuinely wanting to know how she was, and if she did well in her test. Ever since she had beaten him down at the free for all, he had felt a huge amount of respect for her. She was funny, sweet, but could do anything she set her mind to. As he listened to her answer, and as always asked in return for his he replied. "Mine was a complicated fear, I'm not even sure how to describe it, but it ended up with me and Vex fighting. She managed to get me down after what seemed like forever, and I think that means she won." He said with a shrug. "I don't really mind because I felt like I gave it my all." He said, also he didn't mind because Vex was his friend and he was happy to have her win. She deserved it after all. "Are you busy today? I have many things on but not till later on, if you were free I'd love to hang out." He said, hands fiddling together as he waited to see what Fable would say in reply. "What do you say? Fable Aella?" He added, a smile tugging at his lips as he said her new name. The light that shone on her face was worth it. "I never mentioned, but I love the new name. It suits you much more." He said.

Phillip Parks || 19 || Soldier/Trainer || Dauntlessborn

Phillip could tell Ghost was frustrated, but somehow that made the interaction that much more fun. He giggled at each thing that Ghost said, and was not offended or put off at all. In fact, each time Ghost made a reaction or action to show his displeasure at Phillip's antics, he was spurred on even more to prod and frustrate the man. This would be fun, if only Ghost was still a trainer. Though... if Ghost was still the head trainer, Phillip wondered if he would be quickly fired. He didn't doubt that, but for now, Ghost was technically on HIS workspace, and had no authority here anymore. Truth be told, Phillip would respect and listen to all of Ghost's advice, knowing that he had a lot of experience in this, but he wouldn't necessarily let Ghost know that he was taking his advice anyway. As the conversation may have gotten a little more frustrating, Phillip becoming more and more cheeky, it was like a slice in the air when a shriek released and one of the monitors blew up on the screen. Ghost shot off first, with Bloom and Phillip right behind him. He knew exactly what room it was and who it was, something that Phillip had not yet figured out based off of the scream. Wanting to help, he found himself hesitating as Ghost told him to go back with Bloom, but as Bloom also listened to Ghost, he did the same, and without prodding or saying anything he backed off and Ghost entered the room alone. Bloom walked Phillip and Honey back to the monitors, and showed Phillip how he could watch all the simulations from here. "Do you think Cas is okay? The monitor was showing her heart rate was crazy." He said, looking at the monitor which now showed nothing, obviously Cas had unplugged herself, or Ghost had unplugged her. It had seemed particularly problematic, and the alarm system had gone off, but now it was fine and it was quiet. Many of the initiates at this point were coming out of their simulations, each by different strategies of beating one another. Phillip watched as Aubrey seemed to stop her heart somehow and beat her fear, Briony and Griffon were close but Briony outran the stampede swiftly to the city, Vex and Chris were in the middle of having a fist fight, and Randi caused the place she was in to fill with water. That's my girl. He thought proudly of both Briony and Randi. But as they were watching, Bloom began to point out something as Thorn and Aya were jumping off of the cliff. Their heartbeats so similar it was bizarre and shocking. Phillip squinted, looking for any difference to show whether either of them had beaten the other. As Bloom explained what was going on, Phillip realised that this wasn't good, this was bad. Before he could say his fears to Bloom, the two in question came over, asking them who had won. Before Phillip could say anything, Bloom informed them that they had both won, and therefore would both get the points. Phillip smiled and went along, praising them for their bravery, but as soon as they left he turned to Bloom. "Bloom, you need to delete that recording. And you need to put down that Thorn faced Finn, and Aya faced Blair." He said, his face strangely serious.

Bloom looked at him strangely, asking him why, what was he talking about? Phillip bit the inside of his cheek. "Dauntless don't believe in ties. They believe in winners and losers. If you tie? They believe that means you both lost, not that you both won." He said, watching as Bloom heard his words and understood them. "I personally think that's BS, but unfortunately I don't make the values here in Dauntless, I just have to play around them. Take my advice, and change it so it looks like they fought Blair and Finn respectively, and since neither of them turned up, Thorn and Aya won by default without even having to do a simulation. That'll explain why there's no simulation to show your superior." He explained, watching as Bloom nodded at each thing he said and he knew she understood. "Thorn and Aya don't need to know this, they seemed pretty happy to have tied." He watched as they walked off, with Aya immediately talking to Griffon, although Thorn Phillip could no longer see, not sure where he had gone. "Although we may be happy for them to tie, I know that if you put that down and it gets seen by our superiors... it will be recinded and Thorn and Aya will lose their points, and you might lose your job. It's stupid, but people have lost their jobs for less. I mean look at Ghost, does anyone even know why he's lost his job? I never saw any reason for it." He waved his hands around, rolling his eyes as he thought about how stupid Dauntless could be. Bloom set off to do what Phillip had suggested, or so he supposed, maybe she didn't . He hoped she did, because he truly believed that it would be for the best. It didn't spoil Blair or Finn's scores up at all, as both of them would have been losers by default due to not showing up anyway. Thus, all it did was ENSURE that Thorn and Aya got their points that they won fair and square. Dauntless cared about being able to overcome things by yourself through your own bravery. Sure it believed in working together, but if you HAD to work together to win, they thought that weak. Phillip himself got out his phone and began typing down the names of those who had won and those who had lost alongside the list that he and Ghost had formulated about who they had bet on. He waited till the last group had finished and then went off to find Ghost, seeing that he was still in with Cas, he dawdled outside for a bit. He made sure to wave at Briony and give her a thumbs up to show he was proud of her for winning. She had conquered her fear of dogs in the simulation at least, and hopefully she would soon be able to conquer it completely. He knew she loved Honey, and that Honey loved her, but it had been too hard for him and Briony to continue seeing each other with her fear of dogs, and Phillip's fear of committment. Plus, now that he was an instructor he couldn't sleep with or date that initiates anyway.

As Ghost finally exited Cas's training room, Phillip stood there with a grin. "Howdy." He said, to both Ghost and Cas. Cas looked at him with judgemental orbs, before ignoring him and making her way off to somewhere else. Phillip shrugged, and he held out his phone to Ghost. Immediately Ghost quipped at him, asking him what he was doing. "Ah well I took the liberty while you were playing nurse to tally up the scores. Since Blair and Finn weren't here, and Thorn and Aya tied, then nobody gets points for those two pairings. However, as you'll see, I won the bets for Fable, Vex, Aubrey, Beckham and Indira winning their matches, whereas unfortunately you only won Briony and Randi. Therefore with you owing me 100 and I owing you 40, that makes it a clean sixty that you now owe me. I do hope you enjoyed playing." Phillip said, his voice almost dripping with pleasure as he spoke those lines, watching as Ghost read the scorings and Phillips deduction on his phone before passing it back. Ghost then shuffled through his coat, before eventually admitting that he didn't have the sixty necessary right now to pay him. Phillip pouted dramatically, but couldn't hold the face for very long. "Well then, I suppose we will have to schedule a date to meet up again then. Are you busy today?" He asked. Ghost was quick to say that he would not have time today to do that. Phillip laughed. "Well then tomorrow it is. You can choose the place Ghosty dear, I'm sure you can get my number off of Bloom." He said. Then with a wink and a half smile, he spun around and made his way back towards where Bloom was watching him from the monitoring area. As he got back to her he held up his hands. "What? It was just a little bet." He said, grinning. Bloom rolled her eyes, a frequent thing when around Phillip, and told him he probably shouldn't do that. He just smiled. "So, now we make sure everything is shut off and set down right? Does it all get packed away and set up every single day?" He asked, and watched as Bloom nodded her head. He shook his head. "Ridiculous. Ah well, best get started then." He said, and began to head towards the different simulation rooms to turn things off and pack things away. He knew the chairs and main equpiment stayed in the rooms, but it all had to be shut off properly, the recordings sent to the drives, and tidied up and sanitised. Phillip headed to Thorn and Aya's first, wanting to make sure their recording got deleted, and he hoped nobody had uploaded it yet or that Bloom would come and stop him.

Ghost // Male // Age 18 // Officially Unemployed // Erudite to Dauntless

As Cassidy fumbled for an answer to Ghost’s question, it became more and more apparent that she was lucid. She sat slumped in her chair, shoulders curled forward in a protective cocoon, but not out of weakness. The expression she wore was closer to resignation, her lips slanted into a sober frown. The waxy fluorescent lights contoured her face in thick shadows, sharpening the angle of her chin and cheekbones to make her appear more severe. Seeing that he had succeeded in calming her down, Ghost had no further purpose to continue their conversation. If Cassidy elected to get high before testing, she must have had her personal reasons, and he could sense her reticence to share them. An oppressive silence had encompassed the room as she deliberated her answer. Before she spoke, Ghost pushed to his feet and said, “Come on, let’s get you out of here. Promise me you’re not going to have another breakdown as soon as I let you out of my sight?”
Cassidy nodded her head vigorously. Ghost watched as she struggled to shift forward in the chair meant for a six-foot man and plant her feet on the floor. A tremor ran through her legs as she braced her weight on them. Ghost hovered nearby in the event that Cassidy lost her balance but not planning to intervene unless needed. If they hoped to make the cut, Dauntless initiates had to learn to stand on their own two feet, both figuratively and literally. And he didn’t want to land another blow to Cassidy’s self-esteem by offering her unwanted help; she’d already lost her simulation match today, which was punishment enough. She exhaled loudly as she stood, but she stayed upright. Nodding in approval, Ghost led her to the door and held it open for her. “Of course, my lady,” he said with an exaggerated bow as she thanked him.
He followed on her heels as she exited the testing room, only to abruptly stop as Cassidy lurched to a halt in front of him. He peered over her shoulder to see what the problem was—only to wish he hadn’t. Phillip stood immediately to the right of the door, wearing the expression of a leopard licking clean bones. Ghost bristled. He hated being ambushed, and Phillip had obviously been lying in wait. Ghost wondered how long he had been eavesdropping, if he had overheard their “hypnosis” session. Ignoring Phillip, Ghost said, “Be safe, Cassidy. Take it easy today.” She didn’t respond; just passed her eyes over Phillip warily as she sidestepped him. You got the right idea, girl, Ghost grumbled inwardly. Just keep walking and don’t waste your time on this clown if you value your brain cells. He stayed silent as he enviously watched Cassidy disappear around the corner, only just now remembering that her loss today would cost him twenty dollars.
Clearly Phillip hadn’t forgotten their bet. He advanced a step on Ghost, brandishing his phone in one outstretched arm as if it were holy water with which to repel a vampire. Ghost forced himself not to take an instinctive step back, not to so much as blink. Displayed on the phone’s screen was a spreadsheet, organized into surprisingly neat columns and rows of initiates’ names with a tally mark recorded beneath the victor. Ghost was still too annoyed at having been ambushed for his heart to sink at the understanding that he had won only two of the matches on which they’d gambled—and lost five. He schooled his face into baleful blankness as he listened to Phillip’s numerical breakdown of Ghost ultimately owing him sixty dollars. Phillip flaunted a superior smirk when he’d finished, as if Ghost had fallen victim of an amusing prank. “Thank you for that illuminating walkthrough of first-grade mathematics. That class was a real doozy,” Ghost retorted dryly. Partially so that he had an excuse to look at something other than Phillip’s infuriating face, Ghost fished for his wallet and made to pay his dues. It wasn’t even the money that bothered him, but the fact that he had given Phillip bragging rights. Just that he had somehow lost to this cocky douchebag.
A cold sweat erupted over Ghost at the sight of two lonely bills greeting him: a twenty and a one. He was thirty-nine dollars short. Aggravated further, he flipped his wallet closed and shoved it back into his pocket. Inarticulate shame boiled up his throat, hot as a sudden fever. He’d never been unable to pay a debt before. Ghost wasn’t in the habit of making bets that he couldn’t keep, but he hadn’t anticipated losing anything today. He’d agreed to the gamble more out of an impulsive desire to prove his superiority than reason. “I don’t have it right now,” he said curtly. Some gambler you are, muttered a snide voice in his head. And this is why you bet only on yourself to win competitions. He watched Phillip’s face carefully, but unlike the foreboding leer that another man who’d been stiffed might wear, Phillip manipulated his expression into something akin to a mime acting out sadness in a circus sideshow, with a pouting lip and overlarge eyes glimmering with crocodile tears. Ghost had never so much wanted to smack a look off of someone’s face.
“You’ll get your money tomorrow,” Ghost snapped as he straightened his sweater, preparing to bolt. As he took off, Phillip asked whether he was busy today. “I said tomorrow,” Ghost called without looking back. At that, Phillip magnanimously offered for Ghost to choose the place and time, as if he and Ghost were scheduling a back-alley rumble with switchblades and many spectators in attendance. Or going on a date. This latter implication caused Ghost’s cheeks to flame, and he whirled around indignantly. “Man…” A tremulous pause. “I don’t care,” he said, fighting to maintain the cool drawl with which he’d quickly become accustomed to using for Phillip. Scowling bitterly, he peeled off again. This time Phillip thankfully did not pursue him. Ghost didn’t know what he’d do if Phillip had, but he was more scared to find out for Phillip’s sake than his own.
Now that training had concluded, Ghost was about to depart the initiates’ floor with the noble intention of job-hunting for the rest of the day but realizing he was more likely to spend it playing cards or solving crosswords as he procrastinated. Having stayed behind to console Cassidy, he was almost certain that he and the instructors were the last to vacate the premises, when the sound of two surreptitious voices trickled in from the waiting room around the corner. Waiting for what, now that testing is over? Ghost thought suspiciously. His curiosity overriding his morals, he flattened himself against the alcove created by the indentation of the open doorway. Phillip clearly had no stipulations against eavesdropping, so Ghost wouldn’t either. He recognized the low, sultry female voice as Anika’s immediately. Her fellow conversationalist had a gruff, masculine voice, speaking in soft utterances that Ghost strained to hear. But he detected the hope in the way that the speaker’s question pitched upward at the end. Anika clicked her tongue in response. Ghost imagined her tilting her head, the way that she usually did when she pretended to care about someone else’s feelings.
We’ll see, she answered playfully, and she added something too quiet for Ghost to catch. There was a rustle of clothing and a conspicuous silence, as if Anika and her partner had embraced… or otherwise. A wild impulse to peek around the doorframe seized Ghost, but he resisted it, knowing that doing so would likely give away his position. After a moment, the heavy tread of a large man plodded toward the door. Panic clawed at Ghost’s chest, but only for an instant. If he moved now, surely he would look guilty as he scurried away. With his back still pressed to the wall beside the doorway, he made a show of busying himself on his phone as the footsteps neared… and then receded without a word. Ghost looked up. Christian Parks continued down the hallway at a leisurely stroll, unperturbed. He hadn’t seen Ghost. It felt as if everything that could have gone wrong today had, but maybe Ghost still had a little sliver of his former gambler’s luck up his sleeve.
Pocketing his phone, Ghost waited for Christian to turn the corner before emerging from his hiding place. He entered the room in which Anika still lingered. From the way her eyes locked on his immediately, the way she stood with one hand cocked on her hip expectantly, he knew he hadn’t fooled her. She’d been wise to him listening in. Ghost raised his lips into a feline smile. “I know I bet against you,” he said without preamble, “but it was more of a hopeful decision than a rational one. I’m not surprised you won your simulation.” He paused theatrically. “What does surprise me is that you have a boyfriend. And here I didn’t think there was anything soft about you, Anika.” His smile sharpened into something knifelike, cold and calculating and ready to inflict harm. Ghost clasped his hands in front of him: a relaxed, harmless posture completely at odds with his expression. “I typically don’t care much for gossip, but does Christian know that you came on to me and accepts the polyamorous gesture? Or are you concealing things from him?” he asked, equal parts mocking and genuinely curious.
It was the first time that either of them had openly addressed Anika kissing him in the nightclub several days ago, when he’d been drunk and gotten into an altercation with the boy who used to harass Charlie, Noah Cologne. It was the interaction that had inspired Ghost to use Noah as the bait for his plan, spreading rumors about his alleged Divergence so that the hunters who had made Bella, Finn, and now possibly Blair vanish would close in on him. Acknowledging Anika’s advance aloud made Ghost feel powerful, as if he held a hand of all aces and spades and was preparing to deploy them viciously. “What, cat got your tongue, Anika?” he taunted when she didn’t respond immediately. “Meow, bitch.”

Vex

Mood: Calculating

Location: Testing Center

Interactions: Chris, Ghost

The thrill of the chase almost had Vex purring like a kitten though she hid it well as she followed Chris down the fire escape and onto the street below. Despite everything happening in the simulation Vex couldn’t help but notice how Chris seemed to be handling himself well. She could certainly tell what parts of this simulation were meant to represent his fear but even with the blood of the doctor on his hands, the young Parks boy seemed to be thinking relatively clearly. They both knew this was fake, simply an illusion brought on by chemicals in their brain which certainly helped them to rationalize what they saw. Chris wasn’t allowing himself to be consumed by self-loathing and rage because he was aware that this massacre wasn’t real and wasn’t actually his doing, just as Vex knew that the limp figure in the office she knew by heart wasn’t really Dr. Munro so she didn’t treat it like it was. They were both being rational in their own ways but still, Vex needed to play her part in this simulation and so as Chris went crashing onto the car below she nimbly scaled the fire escape until she could leap down and land on her feet only a yard or so away from Chris. The fight that followed was entertaining and she made certain to keep track of every move Chris did and didn’t make. It seemed she wasn’t the only one pulling punches in this battle as Chris wasn’t hitting as hard as his body language showed he could. Vex herself was holding back but still dealing for every hit she received, planning her movements carefully so she didn’t block or dodge every attack. She put on the performance of pain when she sensed contact being made but none of the strikes really hurt since she wasn’t truly able to feel pain. Gathering her data on Chris like this was quite entertaining and part of her craved the thrill of a real fight with him but she knew that currently wasn’t allowed. Doing so would risk the mission in more ways than one and she couldn’t allow Chris to view her as the enemy when there was still work to be done and his onboarding was still underway. Each hit she made to his toned form held information that she filed away until the time came for her to use it. She had learned a lot from this fight including how durable Chris seemed to be which Vex found she enjoyed, it was a fine quality to have and certainly useful. Finally, things seemed to have gone on long enough and Vex knew she was clear to end this as Chris’s attacks grew more reserved while hers only increased. Knowing she needed to end things swiftly and not take her time Vex struck Chris in the leg hard, aiming for a weak point that would take his knee out. Once Chris was down she went for the throat and only stopped when her eyes opened on the real world once more.

Blinking the lights of the testing center turned her brown gaze golden as she sat up and glanced over at the blonde male only a few feet away from her. It wasn’t long after she awoke that he began to stir and look around, meeting her gaze which she made sure appeared warm and friendly while also worn from the fight. In truth she was fine, more alive now than she had been before the simulation, her body felt like it was ready to fight and never stop but she didn’t allow it to show. “Remind me never to face you in a real fight.” She purred to Chris as she gently shoved his shoulder and met his stormy grey-blue eyes. “You were certainly something else, impressive I mean.” She smiled at him before nodding in thanks to his comment about her last move. “I’m sure you’ll have it down in no time.” Her words were friendly and encouraging as she knew Chris reacted well to being praised and receiving bolstering comments. As the duo walked together away from their testing room she was preparing to part ways when movement caught her eye and soon Chris was gently holding her arm and asking her if they could visit Dr. Munro later. The question thrilled her but she didn’t let it show, Chris’s dedication and dependence on the good doctor was growing every day. A kind and gentle smile appeared on her lush lips as she lifted a hand to his arm and carefully massaged in an encouraging yet soothing manner as she removed her own arm from his grasp. “Give me some time to contact the doctor and see if we can arrange something.” She requested calmly but knew it wasn’t a bad idea to have Chris in for another dose soon in order to continue encouraging this loyalty and dependence.

After that, the duo parted ways and Vex only took a few steps before halting and relaxing in her place. She and Chris hadn’t been alone, the whistling breath that rang from a certain former instructor's nostrils had alerted her to that well before Chris had departed, along with several other telling signs including the distinct scent Ghost carried. As the older male approached he did so with such confidence that Vex decided to entertain herself by allowing him to act as though he truly had her cornered in any sort of way. He spoke like a cocky detective who believed he had finally begun to piece together the clues of a mystery and wanted to show off and display his superiority, it was adorable. As he made his final statement the former erudite beauty’s expression shifted to finally show her amusement at his little display. Her eyes shimmered like a lion that knew it had cornered a baby gazelle and her soft lips parted as she smiled and released a sensual chuckle. “Now, now little specter.” She began her voice a silky purr as she clearly had no wounds to her pride despite his efforts. “Did you come up with that all by yourself or did the drugs help?” She asked, her gaze trailing his form as she took confident steps towards him. “Either way I think you and I both know that I am plenty soft when I want to be, especially to my friends.” Her words were honeyed and her movements mesmerizing. “Though a jester with empty words playing at being a king rich with secrets doesn’t interest me as anything more than a toy and a poorly put together one at that.” Her words were not said with malice but with the same sensual tone she often spoke with when around the young man before her. “The leaps and bounds you take to make threats built on toothpicks is quite entertaining I must admit but it is far from something to be proud of.” She was close now, not touching but they would be able to feel the heat coming off of one another's bodies as she looked him in the eyes and tilted her head. “I believe it is your turn to meow, bitch.”

Rhysand(Rhys).

The familiar voice calling out to Rhysand had Rain looking towards the source even in his slightly panicked state. It seemed like Randi was his competition in this and that didn’t help matters not yet at least. Rain like Rhysand knew none of this was real because just like the host of the body he knew they were divergent as well. This is what wasn’t helping matters because Rhysand and Rafe could easily act normally or at least not suspiciously. While Rain no he was too honest and awkward the fear of being caught was making his heart race plus he really did not like spiders. So when Randi came racing over he almost wanted to hide away because she was so pretty and that made him even more nervous. However before he could even think of doing anything she was quick to help him. The look of concern in her eyes made him wonder if he was messing up. He must be messing up, oh Rhysand wasn’t gonna be happy with him he knew Rhysand had been wanting to win this even if it was against Randi. Then before he could say anything action seemed to surge around them the spiders coming closer and Randi asked if she could burrow his bat. He couldn’t do anything but nod some as she grabbed it then began her assault.

He felt Rhysand just under the surface trying to push back through though the sudden shift earlier was wreaking havoc on their body. He felt an intense pain coursing through his head as the simulation continued on. He was barely aware of what was happening now onto when the sound of metal being cracked and the sound of water filling the air did he look up in time to see water flowing everywhere. Then with a rush it seemed like regular light was filtering in and he blinked opening his eyes seeing he was back in the testing room. His head was still pounding and he felt sick knowing because of him Rhysand had lost. He sat up, some feeling eyes watching in his direction, and he gave Randi a light wave.”It seems like you beat me this time.”he said, still feeling Rhysand just below the surface and his head was still swimming feeling sick. “I think I’ll head out first.”he murmured before getting up and quickly heading out of the room. He didn’t bother waiting for any of the instructors, instead he headed into the bathroom closing the door behind him. Rain almost felt like crying. He looked in the mirror then like before his expression seemed to go completely blank. What seemed like minutes passed before Rhysand blinked, his expression irritated. Of course Rain had to phase through during a test he knew it happened occasionally but during a test just pissed him off. He didn’t like losing though he sighed knowing Rain was probably extremely upset as well.

Once he had calmed himself down enough he splashed some water on his face then dried it off. He ran a hand through his hair before heading out though he was surprised to see Randi waiting for him. “Oh hey.”he greeted her. He wasn’t sure what all she had seen within the test; it certainly wasn’t a good side of him. He looked around seeing a lot of people heading off to do their own thing now. Randi seemed to watch him looking worried.

Randi

Mood: Complicated

Location: Testing Center

Interactions: Rhys (Rain)

When Rhys awoke from the simulation Randi was studying him with piercing mint-green eyes. Something had happened during their test, Rhys had been acting very…off. Her naturally pouty lips parted like she wanted to say something but the moment the words were about to escape Rhys jumped up and cut her off. She wanted to know that he was okay, she wanted to know what had happened in there that had made him act so differently from his usual self. The young blonde was well aware that fear could change people but didn’t believe it could do so to that degree. It was almost as though Rhys had become a totally different person. Shaking her head as he left the room and left her standing beside his chair Randi pushed the thoughts aside. They had both done well enough and she didn’t think she had revealed her divergence during the simulation which was a good thing. Her guts twisted with discomfort at the fact that she was having to keep this secret. Randi hated lying, she hated it more than most people did. Even if it made her sound like a bitch she was well-known for telling the truth. But this wasn’t the same as lying, this was keeping information hidden, it was a secret and one her life depended on. Her nails dug into her palms as she remembered just how messy her life had gotten in the past few days. She had found out she was divergent and she had found out that her uncle had murdered her parents as well as Thorn’s mother. Randi knew she would need to give herself proper time to process all of this information but that couldn’t happen now. Right now she needed to focus on looking and acting as normal as possible.

Turning fast on her heels the pretty young woman marched out of the testing room and down the hallway of the testing center. It had only been a few seconds since Rhys had left and she spotted his figure just as he rushed into the bathroom at the far end of the hall. Again her concern for him bubbled to the surface and despite everything that had happened between them she couldn’t stop herself from wandering down the hallway towards the bathroom he had locked himself away in. Once she was outside the door Randi came to a stop and leaned against the wall. She wouldn’t go inside the bathroom, not because of the fact that is was a men's room because screw that, but out of a desire to give Rhys space to calm down. If when he came out he didn’t feel like talking she would go on her way and find someone fun to distract herself with. If he did feel like being around her she would do her best to not dwell on the past for now and try to help him forget his loss today. It hit her in the gut when she realized that she had won, she might have thought about it earlier but only now did it feel real. Was that good? Was it bad? It likely wasn’t the best for her to keep winning in these sorts of tests and she would have to make an unseen effort to control the outcome better in the future. Taking a breath she leaned her head back against the wall and shoved her hands in her pocket where she felt two familiar shapes and pulled one out. A small smile pulled at her soft lips when she spotted the mango lollipop she had stashed in her pocket the other day. Unwrapping it she let the sweet flavor wash over her tastebuds and used the taste to distract herself until the bathroom door opened.

“Hey.” Her voice was calm and casual as she looked at Rhys with concern shimmering in her minty gaze. “Catch.” She said the word right as she tossed the other lollipop his way. Luckily his reflexes were good so the candy didn’t hit him or fall to the ground but rather was grasped in a swift move of his arm and hand. She studied him silently for a long moment before she kicked herself off the wall and spun around to walk the other way. “I want ice cream.” She declared, the tone of her voice making it clear she was moving on but open to talk if he felt like doing so. She didn’t want to pressure him into anything. “Are you coming or not?” She called back to him and glanced over her shoulder, a playful smirk painted upon her features.

Charlotte "Charlie" Stark || 20 || Medic || Dauntlessborn

Charlie sighed as she watched Shayla exit the room. Her heart shook for the lovely girl she used to know, and she wondered why she was so different. There were things that were obviously not right, things that were happening in her life, but still... what was it that had changed her whole life? Made her so reclusive? Was someone hurting her? Was there something unwholesome going on? Charlie couldn't know for certain, she couldn't know at all. Frustrated at the inability to know and help, she busied herself as much as possible with tidying the room, making sure the recording was saved, and sanitizing the equipment and packing this room away. She figured that if she was needed for anyone else that she would be notified or called. That's when she heard the scream, finishing what she was doing and exiting the room that had held Shay and Aubrey within, Charlie swiveled her head around to figure out where the scream had come from, but as she stood there, heart beating fast and worry filling her chest, she noted that nobody else held worry in their eyes or body language. In fact Phillip and Bloom were walking back to the group of monitors and were talking casually. Charlie softly let out a large amount of breath she had been holding and smoothed out the bottom of her dress against her legs, someone must have panicked when they came out of their sim, but it seemed that whoever it was was okay now. Charlie tried to think of who it could have been, but she hadn't been able to recognize it just from the scream, it had been feminine, but not exactly specific to any girl she could think of. There were a lot of female initiates so she wasn't surprised by that inability. She looked around as she stood there, unsure of what she should do next. It looked like people were finishing in succession and many were gathering in groups or heading off alone or with someone. It was nice to see some of the pairings that were around, she could see Chris talking to Aubrey, which was good to see, Aubrey had always been close to Chris, and although it had saddened Charlie a little when Aubrey had broken up with Chris, she was glad to see their friendship hadn't been lost. She knew she would be able to trust Chris to look out for Aubrey forever, no matter what happened. If anything, Christian was loyal. She could see Griffon and Aya going off together, their bodies close and their heads leaned in to each other so that they could speak and hear each other privately. A questioning thought came into Charlie's mind but she didn't think long on it, the relationships that these kids got into wasn't her responsibility or worry, if there was anything dangerous going on, then she would worry. Like with Bastian and Julian. Those two had been trouble, and now neither of them were here.

As Charlie was turning to go towards another simulation room to tidy up, she saw a little spot of blood on the floor. What was that doing there? She began to worry about someone having a problem, and remembered Shay's blood loss the day before. You're an idiot! Letting her run off like that... She scolded herself as she scampered off in the direction that Shay was most likely to go. As she got to the training doors and opened them, she saw another sign of blood drips on the floor. It wasn't easy to see, but it was something that she was used to looking out for. Hell, after every visit from Jeremy she would scour the house, she would check every floor, every door, every handle, blanket and surface, to make sure nothing was noticeably different, that there were no blood stains, no marks... She had been trying to protect Aubrey, but she had also been trying to protect herself and her mother. If anyone had found out about what Jeremy was doing, it was more likely that whoever found out would die, and then Charlie and Sasha would face the consequences, which had a high statistic of death. Charlie couldn't count the number of times that Jeremy had threatened to kill her, sometimes while he was choking her, and she would wonder if those would be her last moments... But he hadn't killed her yet, and she hoped he never would. She had... things to live for now. Things that she wanted and desired. Things that could possibly happen. She shook her head, trying to get Jeremy to disappear from it as she looked everywhere for another sign of blood, it was likely that Shay was going to a bathroom, so Charlie found the nearest bathroom and knowing that it might not be pleasant to Shay but wanting to make sure she was okay, she made her way into the bathroom. As expected, she found Shay desperately trying to clean up the mess of blood that had evicted her nose. Charlie felt her heart flip, not because she was queasy with blood, for she most certainly wasn't, but because it hurt her to see one of her initiates like this, especially one like Shay whom she had seen grown up with Aubrey. "Shay... I'm sorry I followed you but I was really concerned." She said, trying not to give the girl a fright. At this point Shay sort of seemed to accept it, it wasn't like she was going to run away, and Charlie theorised silently that maybe she couldn't, even if she wanted to or tried. "Here, I have some things that will help." She said, digging into her medical bag that she always had on her during these events.

Charlie pulled out a cold pack that she had in her bag, grateful that it was unused and unbroken. Cracking it to make sure the process would begin, she passed it to Shay.
"This will begin to get cold, I'm sure you know where to press it to help." She said with a small and apologetic smile as she passed it to her and watched her nod. "Don't worry about getting blood on it, it has to be thrown out after anyway." She assured her, knowing that she might be wary about using something and getting blood all over it. "And for the blood... these will help it get off your skin. Blood dries so quickly." She said, putting a bag of strong wet wipes on the bench next to Shay so that she could use them when she felt so inclined. She was aware that Shay had basically not spoken at all during this interaction, but she was okay with that. It was altogether very possible that Shay was silently begging Charlie to leave, but she couldn't do so, not without being forced or begged. She was not going to drop the essential part of her job, even if the person who needed first aid did not want it. Giving the girl a little bit of space, Charlie rummaged through the bathroom's supply closet and found some cleaning supplies. While Shay was stopping the nosebleed and cleaning herself up, she began to clean the sink that the main amount of blood had gone into. She heard Shay try to say something, but Charlie shook her head. "It's fine, let me do this." She said, It gives me an excuse to remain in the room with you. I'm worried. She thought to herself as she cleaned the sink of Shay's blood. There was something very wrong with Shay. She had a feeling that no matter how much she prodded and pried that she would not receive any information from the girl herself. She wondered if she should speak to her father, feeling like she might be able to speak to him as an adult with worries and concerns, but also knew that she didn't know him super well. She could also dive into her medical history. As the medic for initiation she was given medical information on all the kids, but it was information that was gathered through other sources, such as the kids themselves or their parents. Thus... she could never know if it was fully accurate or whether it was completely wrong or somewhere in-between. As she finished off the cleaning, she plopped the gloves she used, the clothes and the other materials into a bucket and left them by the supply cupboard. Turning around she could see that Shay had managed to get the majority of her blood nose to stop. "I always have those ice packs and wipes in my bag, you can always come get some. You don't even have to ask." She said. Biting her lip she tilted her head. "Please be careful Shay. Whatever is happening with you... I would love to help, but... if that's not what you want... then... I'll try to give you that space. But not if it endangers you." She said.

Thorn

Mood: Mixed

Location: Testing Center

Interactions: Aya, Bloom, Phillip

As his eyes snapped open Thorn could have sworn he still tasted salt burning the back of his throat and his nose from the water they had plunged into. His stomach was still recovering from the flip it did despite the jump only being in the simulation and Thorn took a moment to just breathe before looking over to see Aya was awake too. “Are you alright?” He asked his concern for her genuine as his deep brown gaze carefully examined her features. He knew that she had been his opponent but that hadn’t stopped him from wanting to make sure she was okay in the simulation and still wanting to ensure she was alright now that they were both awake. With his one good eye he noticed that Aya seemed to be fairing well and was relieved that she hadn’t reacted horribly to the simulation as he knew some initiates had in the past, as he knew he had the day before. Walking over he offered her his hand to help her get down from the chair, a sign of friendship and sportsmanship. To his delight Aya accepted and the two stood in the testing room for a moment just exchanging some small talk. When she offered to grab coffee with him in the morning the young man momentarily considered saying no. He was still so deep in his grief over the loss of his mother but one look at the genuine kindness in Aya’s eyes and he could almost hear his mother tell him to go and to have fun. She had always encouraged him to live as normal of a life as he could despite their situation and so in honor of her memory and in a hopeful attempt to possibly begin a friendship with Aya the young freckled man nodded his head. “S-sure.” He stuttered as his thoughts seemed to trip up his words. “Thank you, I think it could be fun.” His voice seemed to have recovered as he finished his sentence without another stutter but a deep blush did spread across his cheeks.

As Aya bid him farewell and went off on her own path Thorn realized that neither of them knew who had won the competition yet. He opened his mouth to call out for Aya to come back but the words stuck in his throat as he realized he could simply find out and tell her when they met up for coffee tomorrow. She clearly had some sort of plans going on and he didn’t want to interrupt her as she had already said goodbye. Turning to exit the room Thorn silently strolled down the hallway, his shoulders slumped in exhaustion and the grief once again beginning to swell within him like a raging storm. He did his best to swallow it back, to resist letting it show until he was alone, he still needed to talk to the instructors to find out who won afterall. When the young man finally did lay eyes on Phillip and Bloom he couldn’t help but get the sense that something was wrong. Walking over he did his best to smile though he worried it looked more pained than anything. “So uhhh…sorry to interrupt.” He began and drummed his fingers on his leg. “I was just curious to see who won between Aya and me?” Thorn inquired politely and caught the slight twitch of Phillip’s lip and the slight flash of concern in Bloom’s eyes. Had something happened? Finally Bloom told him that it had been a tie and Thorn couldn’t help but blink and stand there as though he hadn’t heard. “A tie?” He muttered. “Uhhhh, thank you.” The last few words tumbled out of his mouth as he stepped backwards and attempted to escape the situation as swiftly as he possibly could.

Thorn couldn’t remember a tie ever occurring before, not during this initiation and not from the initiations he had heard of in the past. Worry seeped into his mind as he realized that this abnormality might paint a target on his and Aya’s back. He knew that most members of Dauntless wouldn’t be happy that he and Aya had basically worked together but to have tied is something else entirely. He would need to talk to Aya about it tomorrow for sure and make sure they were both on the same page. The last thing he wanted was for Aya to get caught up in some horrible mistake in which the Dauntless officials believed her to be a Divergent. Thorn knew he was already possibly in a bad spot due to his involvement with Charlie, Ghost, and Aubrey but that didn’t mean he wanted Aya in a bad spot too. She had been doing so well for a transfer, better than he was which honestly he was at peace with. By now the young man was well aware that he would not be staying in Dauntless by the time initiation ended, he would be kicked out and made factionless. At least for now he could try to spend the time he had left trying to help those he cared for who he would be leaving behind. He wasn’t able to help his mother, the person he had stayed for, but perhaps he could find ways to help Charlie, Aubrey, and maybe even Ghost. With that Thorn’s path was suddenly set on his workshop, a new determination burning away his exhaustion. He still owed Aubrey her dagger and he intended to make it his finest work yet in the hopes that it might bring a genuine smile and some happiness into her chaotic life.

Griffon, Phillip Nerdy. Nerdy.

Briony couldn’t help but look amused by how innocent Griffon was. He had so sweetly offered to get her some water at her comment that she found it rather endearing. She was not used to someone with such innocence usually it would annoy her some yet he was like a kitten. “I meant a drink of alcohol though water wouldn’t be that bad either.”she said with a chuckle letting him know what her earlier comment had actually meant. “No need to apologize, it was very thoughtful of you to offer to get me some water so I appreciate it.”she said simply. She got up fully getting ready to depart wanting to find someone in particular. Then she heard Griffon's question asking her if the dogs had been her fear she blinked a little confused until he continued on about both things in the simulation being a fear of his. Ah that explained the question since obviously if stampedes were his then the dogs had been hers. “Yes I have a fear of dogs.”she said, rubbing unconsciously at her arm that bore the scars from the dog who had attacked her during childhood. “Thank you. You didn’t do half bad yourself considering both things were fears of yours. Anyways I have to try and find Phillip before he leaves so see you later Griffon.”she said before giving him a wave and heading out of the room. She looked around before spotting Honey trotting along and she felt a familiar prickle of fear course through her seeing the happy dog. However she swallowed thickly walking past Honey yet letting her fingers brush lightly over the dog's head. Then she saw Ghost and Phillip before the two parted ways. She quickly hurried over to Phillip.

“Hey if you don’t have any plans after this would you like to hang out? It’s been awhile since we’ve gotten to do anything together.”Briony said with a smile. “Anyways since I know you need to finish cleaning up if you wanna hang just meet me outside.”she said before waving and heading out so he could finish up. Once outside she headed over to the side climbing onto a small concrete pillar where she sat just letting herself relax for a moment. She closed her eyes just letting her mind clear there was so much going on in it lately she felt like she needed to get away. There was all the stuff with Blair: the secrets, her missing, the break up between Blair and Chris. Plus she hadn’t had a chance to hang out with any of her friends lately. They were all so busy, including herself included that it was hard finding time. She also remembered her plans with Ghost. What if he didn’t show up? That would make him even more suspicious in her mind since he was one of the last people to message Blair and the messages certainly had been strange. If he had anything to do with her disappearance he would pay for it no one messed with her twin and got away with it. Her eyes opened hearing footsteps approaching her, curious if it was Philip or someone else. “Hey there stranger ready to go? I figured we could hit one of our old haunts. I'm ready to blow off some steam.”she said with an amused smile.

She went to get down when she found herself suddenly lifted up and spun around once before her feet touched the ground. She couldn’t help but laugh.”What was that for?”Briony asked Phillip amused. When he answered it was a reward for having won her simulation she couldn’t help but punch his shoulder lightly.”Yeah yeah.”she said, shaking her head but a playful smile was on her lips. “I’ll give Chris the gifts for Honey. I'm supposed to hang out with him and Aubrey soon so it’ll be easier just handing the stuff over to him. That way we don’t have to make a detour today for any of the stuff.”she said as they headed off together. “Alsooo new mr instructor man better not get caught out with me or you might get in trouble.”she teased him. It had been a long while since they had done anything like this together and she missed his friendship.

Aubrey Stark || 16 || Initiate || Dauntlessborn

Aubrey spent her time using up the rest of her frustration and energy from the simulation on doing push ups and sit ups. She didn't care that the floor was dirty, or that she was breaking a sweat, all she cared about was continuing her body's movements and doing something physical with her body. She had been doing this for a while when she watched as people came out of their simulations, often with different expressions. Some were happy, obviously having won their simulation in such a way that pleased them and made them feel good, others seemed concerned, maybe they hadn't won their simulation, or their simulation had been incriminating in their life. Some looked terrified, others looked like they couldn't care either way, some looked angry... It was surely a mixture of emotions. Then of course there was the scream, and Ghost rushing to help one of the students, though Aubrey couldn't have cared any less about who it was, as she didn't really know or care why someone would be screaming, at this point she was simply glad she had finished and won her simulation, and that it was over. She didn't need anything extra, and she knew Briony would win hers. Plus, she knew Briony's voice and that hadn't been her scream. Although, as she was taking a small break between push ups, she saw Chrsitian come out of his simulation. "Chris!" She called out, waving him over as she took some heavy breaths and tried to calm her heart beat again. He walked over, and the two smiled fondly at each other, feeling very comfortable in each other's presences. Chris spoke first, asking Aubrey what was up, and how her sim went. Figuring that the first question wasn't quite answerable anyway, she answered the second question with a large amount of pride. "It was good, I won." She said, feeling that same level of achievement as she had when she'd reached top of the leaderboards during the first phase of training. "I had a fear involving not being able to move, but I managed to get out through some very complicated matters, I had to try to stop my heart... How about you?" She asked, curious to how her ex-boyfriend had done. As she listened she saddened only a little when she learned he hadn't won. "Vex seems pretty hardcore, I hope you win your next one though." She said, as she stretched her shoulders and arms. As she watched Christian she thought about how she and Briony were going to go out at some point for drinks, and how they had suggested about bringing Christian. "Hey, you wanna come out with me and Briony later? We were thinking of going out for drinks, you should totally come." She said, watching as Christian frowned as if he were going to say no. But instead of saying no he paused, and after a few moments he nodded, a genuine grin and level of excitement showing on his face. Aubrey mirrored his facial expression, and felt a warmth in her heart as she thought of going out with Briony and Christian, two of the closest people to her now. "Awesome, I'll see you then." She said, waving goodbye as he went off to do something else.

Aubrey herself was getting twitchy and bored, but she couldn't quite go out yet to get drinks, or rather, she was fairly sure she shouldn't. She still had a whole day ahead of her, and if she was going out with Briony and Christian she didn't want to be passed out somewhere at a different bar and miss all the fun. So she would attempt to leave out the drinks until then. In which case, she was left with two options, either go out and find Finn, or keep an eye out on Charlie and Ghost. However... She looked around, noticing that both Charlie and Ghost already seemed to be away. How had she lost track of them? Were they in simulation rooms? Had they left already? Many of the initiates already had. Aubrey ground her teeth together in frustration as she wondered where they were, and didn't want to tally here if they had already left. That's when she saw him. Thorn. He exited his sim room with Aya, and the two parted ways, Aya went to talk with Griffon, while Thorn went to talk with Phillip and Bloom. Aubrey watched from afar, curiosity filling her to what they might be talking about, and eventually watching as Thorn went away and made his way out of the training room. Although Aubrey could go out and try to find Finn, she knew there was little point currently, she had done so htis morning, and she would do so tonight, so for now... she could follow Thorn. He was dealing with his own shit, and Aubrey knew that although she couldn't be helpful at all, she might be able to convince him to do something fun for a change. So she followed him. She didn't try to hide, but it didn't even matter, Thorn was in his own head, and she imagined that even if he'd turned around and she walked into him, he might not notice she was following him. She had snagged a water bottle on her way out and chugged it as they went, eventually tossing it into a rubbish bin and stuffing her hands into her short pockets. She had let her hair down at this point, so it flowed around her body and down to her waits with ease, like a curtain. She didn't know where Thorn was going, but it soon became evident as they reached his workshop, a place he had showed her not too long ago, before everything had gone down, and she had given him her knife to engrave. As if only remembering right now, she felt a desire for that knife that she hadn't felt in a long time. She had to have it back. Even if Thorn wasn't finished or didn't do it. It was a piece of her life, it was a piece of Caspian, and she wanted it, or needed it. As he turned the key to his workshop, Aubrey cleared her throat. "I don't suppose you'd mind some company?" She asked, eyebrow raised and lips pouted. Thorn seemed to be frightened, or shocked, or simply surprised as he spun around and saw Aubrey standing there. After a few stutters he quickly invited her in, saying that she was always welcome. She doubted that was true, but knew that Thorn struggled with setting up proper boundaries. HOwever, she wasn't going to take that chance and quickly accepted his invitation and stepped into the workshop.

Once in, she watched as Thorn seemed nervous about something, as she simply stood there and admired the different things that were in there. It wasn't long before he came out with what he was obviously worried about saying. Aubrey watched as he admitted about having not done her comission, and how he was so sorry and was going to work on it right now, and would get it back to her as soon as possible. Aubrey nodded. "I guess neither of us have been hyper focused on that knife. But I appreciate that offer. I would still love that engraving, and it would mean a lot to have it back soon." She said, as she saw him get the knife to show her that it hadn't yet been touched. Reaching out delicately to drag her fingers over the blade, she shivered at the touch of cool metal, and felt a strange spark in her heart. When Thorn spoke up, he said that he wanted to work on it now, and that she was more than welcome to make herself at home in his workshop if she desired. Aubrey nodded enthusiastically, and soon Thorn was busy doing what he had to do, and Aubrey was like a kid in a candy store. Thorn's shop was filled with many exciting things for the young woman, she admired the weaponry first and foremost, but it was unusually bare of weaponry, most of it being decorative and very safe. She admired some knives and a few other things like that, even some unique shields that were very archaic looking but made of sturdy strong material. The sounds from Thorn using his equipment were so pleasant to Aubrey that she almost didn't notice them at first, she simply began to feel calm. She kept her eye out for the sword that Thorn had spoken about, the one he had made from when his mother had told him stories. The sword of truth, or something like that. She wondered if he had finished, she couldn't recall if he had said he had. As she walked around, she felt her body slowly begin to feel fatigued and exhausted, a small drip from her nose caused her to feel that her nose was slowly dripping blood. "Ah damn." She swore, as she grabbed the nearest thing that looked like a dirty cloth and quickly dabbed at her nose. Her whole body at this point began to sway, as she found herself feeling faintish and unwell. The noises that Thorn was making were like a lullaby to her failing body, and she found herself walking, but it felt like she was flying, or walking on clouds. Weightless. Seeing a nearby couch that was reasonably clear, she let her body sit down, still holding the cloth to her nose. She heard Thorn pause as he noticed her sitting with the cloth, and she vaguely heard him ask if she was okay. Not feeling up to speaking, she held up a hand and did a thumbs up, waving to show him she wanted him to keep going. Her head was banging like a rock song and she wanted the sounds of Thorn's workshop to lull her headache away. He did begin again, and Aubrey felt herself begin to drift off to those sounds, her thinning body crumpling into the couch and her hand dropping the cloth. The blood from her nose continued to very slowly drip blood onto the floor, but by this point Aubrey was so far passed out that Thorn would have had to do something drastic to wake her up.

Shayla

Mood: Oof

Location: Bathroom

Interactions: Charlie

The metallic taste of blood in her throat was something Shay hated but had also unfortunately grown used to over the years. Now as she stood shakily against the counter of the bathroom she had hunkered down in the dark-haired young woman did all she could to create even the slightest bit of relief from this bleed and the pounding headache that accompanied it. Her usually icy blue gaze was dull from the pain that radiated through her skull as she held herself up and pressed a wad of paper towels to her nostrils. The sudden sound of the door opening behind her caused her gaze to snap towards the mirror where an all too familiar brunette stood looking Shay over with concern flaring like fireworks within her deep brown eyes. For an instant Shay almost spoke, almost told Charlie to leave, almost treated her as coldly as she could but was unable to as she felt her energy levels dwindling and didn’t want to waste the effort the words would take. Plus, at the end of the day, she didn’t really have anything against Charlie, not truly. It was just that Shay knew how easily the young medic had made her way into her heart when they were younger and it had been hard enough pushing her and Aubrey away once, she couldn’t let either of them in again. Instead, she did her best just to look uninterested in Charlie’s existence, to make herself as cold as ice towards the young woman and leave no room for Charlie’s kindness to warm its way in. It was for her own good after all, hers and Aubreys.

Despite the silent treatment, Shay put Charlie through, the cold stares, the distance she made sure to keep, Charlie didn’t leave. Instead, as the minutes passed the sweet brunette did everything she could to try and help Shay in her current situation. Charlie gave her an ice pack, and wet wipes, cleaned the blood she had dripped and smeared all around the bathroom and acted with all the kindness of a saint. Shay wanted to try and convince herself that she was only doing it because it was her job but after growing up with Charlie practically acting as her big sister Shay knew all too well that this was all because Charlie genuinely cared. Why does she keep doing that? The ebony-haired initiate screamed internally and wished Charlie would just go away and make it easier on both of them. She hated that any part of Charlie still cared for her or her well-being. She had been able to make Aubrey hate her long ago and that hate had lasted but Shay had never found true success in turning Charlie against her. She highly doubted the young woman was capable of true hatred towards anyone, though she couldn’t know for sure since she didn’t exist in Charlie’s head. All she knew is that no matter what she had done, what Aubrey had or hadn’t told her, what she had witnessed for herself, Charlie still found it in her heart to care for Shay and Shay wished she didn’t. She wanted to vanish as soundlessly as she could from the lives of the people she cared for, she wanted them to hate her so they wouldn’t miss her.

All through the time Charlie cleaned the bathroom they were standing in Shay leaned heavily against the wall and did her best to stop the nosebleed and put as much effort as she could into cleaning her face. Charlie had spoken multiple times but Shay didn’t answer and hoped the silence would drive her off quicker than anything else. As the brunette continued to talk and mentioned wanting to help but also being willing to give her space unless it endangered her Shay looked at her through the mirror her eyes dull with pain and exhaustion. “The best thing you can do for me Charlie is…leave me alone.” She said after a moment, her tone holding no malice but rather exhaustion and finality. “I understand you care and…and that it is your job…but I need you to stop because it isn’t helping.” Shay hated every word she was saying, she hated the pain that flashed in Charlie’s eyes as she spoke, she hated that she had to do this but she refused to stop. She needed to push Charlie away, she needed the medic to keep her distance and she needed to remind herself and others that relationships, no matter the type, were out of the question. “Haven’t I made it clear yet? Didn’t Aubrey tell you what a bitch I am? I don’t want you to help me.” The last bit came out with a bit more of a growl as she did her best to truly drive the point home. She would much rather hurt Charlie a bit now than risk hurting her even more later.

Fable

Mood: Mixed

Location: Testing Center

Interactions: Chris, Mentions Cas & Griffon

Once she was out of the testing room Fable still couldn’t shake the feeling that she should have stuck around to help Cas. Whatever had happened it was made very clear that she was not supposed to jump in and assist but leaving Cas left a pit of guilt in her stomach. They were both Griffon’s sisters, Cas by blood and her by choice, so leaving Cas with Ghost felt like she was in a way letting Griffon down. Griffon would have stayed and likely would have liked for her to stay but Fable had picked up that she wouldn’t be able to help Cas in any way that truly mattered so it was likely that being out of the way was the best aid she could give. Cas will be okay. She told herself over and over a few times in her head as she fiddled with the end of her long braid and strolled down the hall. It felt wrong to check the scores of the simulation but she couldn’t resist and as she passed the screens her multicolored gaze scanned the names until she saw hers highlighted as the champion of the match. A spark of pride ignited within the flame-haired young woman and the corners of her lips curled upwards a bit as she saw her dreams drawing closer and closer to her. If she could keep this up she was certain to be selected to remain in Dauntless once initiation ended. Instantly a thorn sharp stab of guilt hit her heart as she realized she was happy for herself while Cas was suffering. That’s the game. Fable reminded herself and shook her head slightly as though to knock her emotions back and look at the situation realistically. Cas was still high on the board, she had earned her own victories and wasn’t likely to plummet from this loss, she should be able to celebrate her victory because she earned it. Right? The thought of celebrating anything dissipated like morning fog when she found herself instinctually looking for Griffon’s name and spotted it dulled out, the sign of having lost his simulation. “No…” Fable breathed and remembered how low on the list Griffon had already been. Instantly she remembered the internal discussion she had been having with herself earlier. If Griffon didn’t make it into Dauntless then neither would she. She would never leave her brother, he was always there for her and she would never fail to do everything she could to be there for him. Without realizing it Fable found herself praying to anyone who might be listening that Griffon find a way to rocket through the ranks and be allowed to stay but she also felt the knife in her gut as she began to mentally prepare herself to watch her dream fade away. It would be worth it to stay with Griffon, anything would be.

As the thoughts and nerves raced through her body like wild horses Fable knew she needed to get out of the public eye and ducked into a restroom to try and compose herself. As she stood in the stall with her back against the door Fable put her arms above her head and clasped her hands together, allowing herself to stretch and breath and try to calm down. There was so much she couldn’t control in life no matter how much she wished she could. Closing her eyes Fable took calming breaths and allowed her thoughts to linger on some of her favorite stories and the lessons they taught. One that kept sticking in her mind was the fable of The Dog and The Shadow. She knew it well and understood the lesson behind it. Sometimes when you have something good you shouldn’t crave more or you could end up with nothing. Clicking her tongue Fable couldn’t help feeling as though that story might be just want she needed at this moment. She had Griffon and he was one of the best things to ever happen to her. She shouldn’t be demanding more and more, if more comes then it comes but she won’t throw Griffon away to obtain it, she would NEVER do that. After a few minutes of lingering in her own thoughts, Fable finally felt the nerves fading away and opened the stall door to look herself over in the mirror. Luckily she hadn’t cried or anything so her face wasn’t puffy and her eyes weren’t red. Fixing a spot where her shirt had gotten wrinkled in a weird way the young woman gave herself a final once over, happy with the version of herself she saw staring back. It was something others might find silly but being able to look in a mirror and see herself looking back, see her own eyes looking back, it was amazing. For so long the girl looking back at her, on the rare occasions she could look in the mirror, was not her. Now finally it was and even if it didn’t last she was happy she had gotten to meet this version of herself.

Swinging the door of the bathroom open Fable swung her braid back over her shoulder and turned to find the exit just as she heard a familiar voice call her name. Chris! She thought to herself with a smile. It had been a while since the two of them had really talked, especially one on one. In fact, the last time they had hung out was at the party where he accidentally hit Blair. Fable of course knew it was an accident, she would never believe Chris would intentionally hurt Blair in such a way and it pissed her off that others thought he might. She of course didn’t want to bring that up to him especially when he looked so happy to see her and she found herself genuinely happy to see him. After the free for all they had spoken a few times and Fable had found each of those occasions delightful as Chris was just such a genuine and kind person who she enjoyed being around. He hadn’t been bitter when she beat him in the free for all and had shown her nothing but kindness since. It brought a genuine smile to her face just by seeing him now. “Hey, Chris!” She greeted him cheerfully and gave a small wave. “Long time no see, I was starting to think we’d never hang out again.” She chuckled and instantly wanted to kick herself as the young man began to explain himself to her. “Oh shit, I wasn’t trying to make you feel bad. I’m sorry, it was a joke.” She apologized and nodded her head. “I would love to hang out, and if there is ever anything you need I am always here to help.” She added as she tried to make amends for her thoughtless comment but also genuinely meant every word. She caught the twinkle of his eye and realized he hadn’t taken her joke poorly at all and did her best to fight off a blush. Seeming to catch that she had embarrassed herself a bit Chris picked up the conversation again by asking her about her sim. “I won. It was a tough one but I managed to pull out a victory.” She smiled and decided to leave out the part where she was uncertain if she had won when she first woke up. She debated telling him about what happened when Cas woke up but decided it would be a breach of the other girl's privacy. “Cas and I actually had to kinda work together which was interesting.” She added and wondered if that was common in simulations like this. Clearly, it wasn’t overly common as Chris began to describe his own simulation and how he had to fight Vex in it. She didn’t envy him at all and remembered that the other girl had been a natural fighter since day one but was certain Chris had been more than capable of holding his own. “Well I don’t know what happened in there but I’m certain you did amazing, even if you didn’t win. If you are proud of how you performed then so am I.” She grinned and reminded herself to think more like Chris when she loses a match. To her surprise, the young man asked if she was busy and Fable felt delight bubbling within her at the thought of hanging out with him further. She had hoped to possibly speak with Ghost at some point but she wouldn’t pass up a chance to spend more time with Chris. Her smile widened when for the first time Chris used her new name and told her that he felt it suited her better. “That sounds like an offer I simply cannot refuse.” She chuckled and nodded her head. “I would love to hang out, what do you think about grabbing some smoothies?” Fable suggested and looked into the blonde’s stormy blue gaze. “Thanks by the way. It feels so nice to have my new name used, I haven’t gotten to hear many people say it and it is nice to know you like it.”

Nerdy. Nerdy.

Ghost // Male // Age 18 // Officially Unemployed // Erudite to Dauntless

Ghost hadn’t even finished speaking when Anika started sashaying toward him, her hips moving in the practiced undulations of a seductress. She didn’t stop until, if either one of them reached out, they would be touching the other. This invasion of his personal space disconcerted Ghost, but he refused to show it, lest it be perceived as a sign of weakness. As always, the sheer dichotomy between the meek, invisible initiate and this prowling huntress with an agenda dumbfounded him. He wondered which one the real Anika Vex was. If there was an Anika at all, and it wasn’t just a made-up name to throw off pursuers, much as his own was. He didn’t contemplate the question for long. Anika’s question was insidious, bad intentions disguised as something innocent. Her voice was lemonade sweet, all the alcohol smothered by the taste of sugar, and just like a shot of something too strong, it had Ghost’s stomach twisting on itself instantaneously.
The word fury was inadequate to describe the thunderous sensation rolling through him. But then again, it wasn’t just fury that he felt. It merged with a disbelieving shock that made his gaze suddenly narrow on Anika as if he weren’t sure he heard her right. And below that, a numbing coldness. Ice needled his throat like the cool disappointment of a man about to make good on a threat. Did you come up with that all by yourself or did the drugs help? The words pounded through his head a dozen times before a response rose to his lips. Ghost felt his heartbeat in his head, his ears, his fingertips. He had been hooked on lull for six years. As such, he was practiced enough at not being sober in public to know how to cover his tracks. Paranoia that Anika would know about such a personal habit briefly rose to his surface, but it was pulled back under by bottomless depths of calm. More than anything, Baneberry Street had taught Ghost to not let it show when an enemy had cut him deep. There, he’d been shot, stabbed, and taken too many punches to count. And he’d always clawed his way back to his feet after having them swept out from under him.
“Oh, honey,” Ghost breathed softly. His voice was sharp like a broken harp string. “With or without drugs, I’d have to be fucking blind not to see through you.” He tilted his head, as if to survey Anika from another angle. As if, tilted on its side, or in a different light, her flattering image would dissolve and reform into something hideous and half-decayed, like a hologram in a haunted house. “You shouldn’t be so eager to flaunt what you know, Anika. A fox that smells the hounds closing in may just turn around and gouge an eye out. Pride is a weakness that a formidable foe will exploit.” With nothing left to say to her, Ghost whipped around and stalked away. Just keep thinking I’m a jester, Anika. He wasn’t so vain as to want her to think him interesting at the expense of trying to dredge up his dirty laundry. If a boring pretense was the price of other people minding their own damn business, Ghost would take it. Otherwise those people would have been able to connect his pseudonym with a real identity within days of him taking it. You just stick to that. And your toothpicks, he thought bitterly, wondering if it were possible for Anika to speak in language other than metaphors.
Ghost tracked his way back through the waiting room the way he’d come. His eyes fixated on the intricate pattern of overlapping gold diamonds that unspooled across the cracked wall like thread. There’s more than one way to skin a cat, the infinitely ongoing geometric design made him think. Always. He didn’t know what Anika’s motivation was—or what the hell her problem was that drove her to actively be a shithead during their every interaction—but he was beginning to grasp her means. Or so he liked to think. But as Ghost had told her, pride was indeed a weakness, and she’d spoiled her advantage by showing her hand prematurely.
Some way or another, she knew about Ghost’s drug habits. The question had been too carefully baited and set for him to have just fallen into it opportunistically. Which meant that Anika had caught him first-hand venturing out to Factionless territory to close a deal… or she had some means of distantly monitoring him. Or perhaps she had a close contact within Ghost’s network of plugs, which he tried to keep as limited as possible to prevent word from getting out. Which it clearly had. But whatever the case, there was more to Anika Vex than meets the eye. There was something greasy about her, a gleam like oil between her fingers, a cunning slickness to her expression even as she pouted in that childlike, flirtatious way. And Ghost was determined to figure out what.
Naturally, like the vast majority of his resolves, this thought overtook his mind for all of fifteen seconds, until he pushed open the swinging double doors to the instructors’ lobby, in the center of which sat an expensive-looking bank of computers, and it was subsequently forgotten. His eyes fell on the lone figure sitting before one of the computers, the fairy tale-red ends of her hair obscuring part of her face as she diligently typed notes and uploaded files. Even sitting down, Vernal Bloom retained a statuesque posture, her spine straight and tall as if she were modeling for a portrait. Ghost scanned the room once more, ensuring that he and Bloom were truly alone and Phillip wasn’t lurking in the shadows, ready to spring out like a creepy jack-in-the-box. Upon confirming that the lobby was indeed empty of third parties, Ghost stuck out an arm and propped himself against the doorframe, watching Bloom with a polite sort of expectancy as if waiting to be noticed without having to interrupt her.
When she didn’t acknowledge him, Ghost tapped his fingers against the column. Once, twice. Canted his head to the side. And finally spoke. “You know, I seem to recall someone telling me that they were really fond of rock climbing.” Bloom startled, her head snapping up and eyes wide as poker chips as they found Ghost. Now that he had her attention, Ghost basked in it, scratching the back of his head as if trying to remember who the person in question was and drawing a blank. “Yeah, we were drinking strawberry daiquiris—excellent little devils, those—at a bar where she works part time, when she told me rock climbing was one of her favorite hobbies.” Ghost smiled slyly and gave an insouciant shrug. “Too bad I can’t seem to remember who. I happen to be in the mood for trying new things, if she would indulge me.”

Aya.

Aya made her way onto the rough with Griffon, the two of them heading towards their usual spot. It was gonna be nice getting a moment to relax after having such testing. She blinked, realizing she had forgotten to see which one of them had won between her and Thorn. It had seemed like they woke up at the same time however it was hard to tell when waking up from something like that. They had plans to meet up later for some coffee. The next day she could always ask him if he knew the answer. Her attention looking out at the horizon simply took it in for a moment as the breeze brushed against her making her long jet black hair flick in the wind. Aya simply remained quiet for several minutes letting the worries and previous actions of the testing finally filling out of her mind. A small sigh escaped her before looking over at Griffon. “So you went against Briony? I’ve heard she’s pretty fierce when she wants to tell me how your testing went against her.”she said curiously wondering what the blonde had been like. Plus Griffon had seemed rather excited earlier, maybe something had happened during the testing though she didn’t know what it would be. The initiates often came out of the testing feeling sick, angry, worried, or frustrated so seeing Griffon happy had her wondering what had happened.

She awaited his answers listening as he seemed to explain what happened. While he explained the events she took her sketchbook out and some pens started to draw an image of Griffon. Her eyes watching him only going back to the paper to sketch every now and then adding small details here and there. She thought more about her conversation with Cas about the scars and all that. She then remembered seeing Griffons they had seemed terrible. Would he always hide them away? She couldn’t very well just touch them that would be well something a lover would eventually do. That thought had her face heating up pink, painting her cheeks like cherry blossoms settling on snow. Aya cleared her head quickly of the thoughts not sure if Griffon had noticed the blush upon her cheeks or not. So she quickly went back to sketching, almost finished with it. “I think Cas got high again.”Aya said a few moments later it’s not like they hadn’t seen her in that state before. However it had seemed a bit worse this time. She nibbled lightly on her bottom lip on worry as Griffon gave his answer to yet another one of her questions. “Is there anything you would like to do after this? I don’t have any plans and I think it would be nice to spend more time together.”she said softly to him.

Cassidy "Cas" Wickham || 16 || Initiate || Erudite Transfer

Cassidy had planned on telling Ghost why she got high and how, but as the hypnosis wore off, and the panic wore off, and she was more sober-minded, she realized the enitrety of her situation. She couldn't tell Ghost. Even as she sat there squirming with the desire to let him know about Cheglok and the power he held over her, Cassidy's mouth dried and she couldn't get the words out. She wasn't stupid, she knew that telling Ghost could have dire consequences. Although Draven and Cheglok would back her up on most things, the minute she told anyone about them, without their knowledge or agreement, they would not only stop supporting and protecting her, but they would turn on her. Them and the entire Raptors. She couldn't risk Griffon's life like that, and she had no wish to shorten her own lifespan so foolishly. She was usually quick on her tongue with an excuse, usually good at making up a believable explanation that wasn't technically truth or lie, but being high, panicked and hypnotized had a way of slowing down her thought pattern, and so it wasn't so strange that Ghost ended up dropping the push for her to tell him, even though he had opened up about himself. To be fair, as much as it was good and interesting to know more about him, she would have preferred something dirtier than the fact he loved his mums Baklava and that she was dead. My condolences Ghost, but I wish mine was dead. She thought to herself coldly as she got off the chair, her body shaking at the impact. Ghost was hovering near her, fearful for her being well enough to exit and she shivered with disgust. She wasn't such a child that she needed coddling or protecting. She understood that this had been a serious mishap, not losing, as she had intended to lose, but causing her own panic attack and requiring assistance. It was a hit to her ego and she wasn't likely to try that again. She could deserve to win a few more simulations now without drawing attention to herself. As they exited out, with Ghost begging her not to break down, she laughed and an idea suddenly popped in her brain. A way to tell Ghost her answer, without telling him. She would have to be careful though, and would require a sign, a symbol. "Thank you." She said, resisting the urge to say it through gritted teeth. Before walking off, her arms wrapped around her waist as she still tried to shake off the various feelings her body and mind were going through. As she exited the training room and headed to the nearest bathroom, she kept an eye out for friends, foes, acquaintences and persons of interest. But to her dismay none of them turned up. There were some people to whom she had no interest, but unfortunately none who stood out were in the vicinity. Not pausing, she finally reached the bathroom and entered in. Unfortunately or fortunately, she found people within; One being the Medic Charlotte Stark, the almost sickeningly sweet yet frail girl, and Miss Shay herself. Cassidy's entire mood changed as she saw the two of them.

It was obvious that it had been an awkward time for her to enter, but honestly Cassidy was glad for that. She had entered just as Shay was finishing her sentence to Charlie, and the medic looked a bit hurt. Instead of retreating or going into a stall, Cas leaned on the side wall and simply pulled out her vape, sucking in a deep breath and happily watching the confrontation. Whatever Charlie might have said in private, was gone, and instead the medic kept her words very simple and told Shay that although she would try to heed her wishes, she had a job to do, and keeping as many initiates alive and healthy was part of that. It seemed like she wanted to go on, and Cassidy saw a hint of genuine frustration in the medic's body language, but after a small intake of breath and a quiet but long sigh, Charlie simply left. Cas blew out her vape in a billow of smoke, the bathroom suddenly smelling like delicious raspberry sorbet. Cassidy kept her eyes on Shay, and let the silence sink in for a while, then she let out a small laugh. "Damn, I didn't think anyone would speak to Charlie like that, you've got some serious issues if you hate her guts." She said almost jokingly, having no belief that Shay did dislike Charlie, but having gathered that she was pushing her away for some reason. She had mentioned Aubrey, so it was possible that it had to do with her. "Now Aubrey I could imagine hating, not that I'd put that much energy into hating anyone really." She said, her eyes almost boring a hole into Shay to watch her reaction. Shay was fairly good at a poker face, as Cassidy had assumed and now was continuing to assume. If she cared for Aubrey or Charlie at all, she was doing her best at hiding that and showing indifference. Cassidy personally had a theory that Shay cared a lot more than she was acting, but decided not to say anything about it. Taking a long breath of vape and releasing it again, she pocketed her vape stick and walked over to Shay. "Now, if Aubrey thinks you're a bitch, I am dying to know why. Did you hurt her somehow? Break her heart? Spread some rumours? Reject her?" Cassidy asked, getting as close as possible with the dark haired beauty. Shay was remarkably still in her facial emotions and body language. Cas got the idea that she had trained herself to not be bothered by what people did. Half-smiling, Cassidy gripped the sink and leaned in close to Shayla, she was thinking of the party, where they had spent the night together, and how deliciously fun that had been. That had been a different side of Shay, one that she hadn't seen since then. She had been open to Cassidy's advances then. What would she do now? Cassidy breathed out softly, the air sure to hit Shay's skin and lips. "I have a theory." She said, her voice low and sultry. "Did you fall in love with her? Did that break your heart, and in turn you pushed her away because you were hurt?" Cas asked, head tilting, perfectly aligning with Shay's lips, only a slight movement would push them close enough... Shay may have had a good poker face, but Cassidy saw Shay's reaction flick through her for a moment. "Ah, I see my theory is wrong. I guess I can be glad about that though. Mean's you're still open." She said suggestively. Before Shay could move, Cas planted the fastest and quickest of kisses on Shay's lips. She made sure to press tightly, swiping her tongue quickly over the other girls lips before pulling back and looking in the mirror to check her hair. "You haven't seen a feather anywhere have you? I need one." She said, almost ignoring what she had done and acting as if she hadn't done it. If Shay answered, it was a no. "Ah well. I guess I'll have to go find one. Catch you later Shay Darling." She said, winking to her in the mirror before exiting the bathroom.

Invigorated by the kiss, Cas kept an eye out for the feather. It was a simple but effective way of telling Ghost something. She honored her promises and bargains. She'd asked him for a secret and he'd told her, even if it wasn't as interesting as she'd wanted. Although she couldn't tell him for fear of turning the Raptors against her, she needed him to know something was up. Thus, the feather. If he knew who the Raptors were, the feather would be an obvious sign. If he didn't, then he would be none the wiser but she would have done her job. It took Cassidy a while to find a feather, given that the Dauntless compound was generally inside, she had to dip outside of the compound for a while to find a feather anywhere. Most birds were not frequenting Dauntless areas so that made it even harder, but eventually she found a mostly complete feather on the ground that was not disgustingly covered in shit. Keeping the feather in her pocket, she then walked back into the compound on her quest to find Ghost. She wanted to get this done as soon as possible, she didn't like leaving things so that they could get forgotten or not completed for reasons that weren't her fault. Her plans weren't exactly busy for the day anyhow, so she could easily take her time in finding him. She had to do stuff with Griffon later, which is why she visited with Cheglok today in the first place, but that wouldn't be till the evening anyway. Cassidy strolled quite contentedly down the hallways, heading back to the training area in hopes of finding Ghost on his way back out of it. As if through some divine luck, Cassidy was happy as she saw Ghost exiting the training room. He wasn't alone, Bloom being with him, but that did not bother Cassidy at all. As Bloom and Ghost noticed her, she made sure to wave at them and Bloom paused her speaking to Ghost to ask Cassidy if she was okay. "Yes thank you, Ghost was very helpful in calming me down. I guess I got a bit too panicked from my simulation, the thought of dying wasn't exactly pleasant." She said, watching as Bloom nodded in understanding. The feeling of dying was even worse. She thought. Ghost seemed to have been looking at her with one eyebrow raised, had he gathered that she had come back looking for him? Cassidy smiled at him with a nod of understanding that she wasn't going to mention the hypnosis to Bloom. She had to figure out some way of giving him the feather... Before she could figure out the best way of doing it, Ghost opened up an invitation, inviting Cassidy to go rockclimbing with himself and Bloom. "Rock climbing? I don't think I've had the pleasure of doing that here yet." She said, nodding at the invitation. "If you both don't mind the extra company then I'd be glad to join you." They both nodded, and Cassidy slotted herself on the other side of Ghost opposite to Bloom. She remained mostly quiet as they walked, and at a time where Ghost was preoccupied speaking to Bloom about something, Cassidy feigned a trip, and stumbled into Ghost's side for a moment, hardly touching him, but enough to help her in planting the feather into his pocket. "Sorry.>" She said, straightening herself and continuing to walk. It hadn't been necessary to trip or feign bumping into him, she could have planted the feather on him without doing that, but she wanted him to know it was her who put the feather in his pocket. She imagined he was smart enough to figure that out.

Griffon || 18 17 || Initiate || Abnegation Transfer

Griffon felt his heart beating more pronounced than usual. It always seemed to be that way around Aya. She made the world seem brighter and more in colour, and she made him feel more alive and more present. He couldn't exactly say how or why, his memory wasn't advanced enough for him to actually remember these as thoughts or visuals but he could remember feelings. Everyone around him was a feeling. Feelings were not forgotten, even now he had feelings associated with things that he had no reason to understand. But Aya was many feelings, one of them was an excited and innocent desire. He wanted to spend time with her, almost more than he wanted to spend time with Fable or Cas. He loved both of his sisters with all of his heart, each of them in their own way, and he would die a thousand deaths for both of them without question, he would walk into hell without fear, and he would stand by them to the very end. He would spend every waking hour with either of his sisters if they wanted him to, and he would do so happily, content and peaceful. But Aya? He wanted to spend time with her, he wanted to make her happy and show her beautiful things. He felt so renewed around her. She wasn't like any of the other girls, she was so real, so genuine and so bright. She wasn't bright like Fable, who was like the sun, or like Randi who was like a wild fire, but Aya was like the moon. She illuminated things, brought them into focus, but didn't blind him or heat him, she just was. As they climbed to the roof to enjoy their alone time, Griffon watched her with caring eyes, he hoped she enjoyed time in his presence like he did with her, they had spent so much time together and yet... Griffon felt a stab of guilt in his chest, he couldn't remember them. The physical memories had already mostly disappeared. Even his birthday was a foggy memory. Thankfully Cas had videod as much as possible and Fable had taken many photos, which meant he could look through them whenever he liked (he had put them all on an album on his phone) but still, looking at the photos was like looking into someone else's life. He almost felt like it was his life... but at the same time it was so foreign in his memory that he couldn't really remember it as his own. He wanted to spend more and more time with Aya, but he felt guilt for not remembering these times like she would, he could honestly tell her he remembered how he felt during those times, but he couldn't remember everything, he couldn't remember most things... Trying to ignore the pain, and pushing that thought to the side, he took a deep breath of fresh air as they sat in their familiar position on the roof. They had both already grabbed their sketch books, almost never separated from them, and both began to lightly sketch as they spoke.

Griffon was inspired by Aya using his flowers in her tattoo to continue drawing more. So as he drew the horizon and the Dauntless compound, he began to overlay the buildings with vines and flowers, and did that as they spoke. "What was strangest in my fear simulation was that I wasn't sure what fear was Briony's. There were massive dogs, and I feared those, and then there was a stampede of... cows? I think they were cows... I feared those too. We had to run and Briony managed to get ahead of me. She also managed to fight off the dogs. I think... I recall maybe getting trampled by the cows? I don't know... It was frightening. I found out afterwards that dogs were her fear. Just got unlucky with both of them being mine." He said, letting her know the more detailed point of the simulation. "I'm surprised I remembered all of that, I hope that means my memory is improving." He said with a sullen hope in his voice. Aya nodded and spoke little, happily sketching in her book, and Griffon did the same. They didn't glance too much at each other's drawing unless one of them asked the other. It was a private thing, to do sketches and drawings, and so they both understood that. Griffon felt himself inspired by the drawing he did to write a poem, and jotted down a few lines in a separate page.
As the sun warms and lights and brings life to the city, the flowers bring joy to a world needing pity
The blooms need the sun to grow and to live, but given too much they soon start to wither
Even flowers will sleep when the sun goes to bed, and when the moon has arisen they all bow their head
They wait until morning to bring what they give...

Griffon couldn't seem to finish, so he left it blank for now, hoping to come back to it later. He continued to sketch, and listened as Aya spoke about Cassidy. His heart sank as he heard her mention about Cas being high again. He knew Aya was aware of Cassidy's habits probably more than Griffon was, from what he could remember that Cas and Aya had spoken about. They had been friends in Erudite, along with Lainey, and had gotten very close. He remembered that part because he always thought that meant they were in a relationship, and had stayed respectfully away from Aya until Cassidy had told him otherwise. He knew Cassidy used drugs to relieve her pain, he knew she was responsible, and he trusted her. But he did wish she wouldn't get so high. "I'm sure she knew what she was doing." He said, trying to sound encouraging rather than concerned. Aya didn't reply and he didn't continue speaking, instead wishing he could ask Cassidy why she got high. He knew she would tell him the truth, but he also knew that she often didn't tell him things. He didn't like not knowing what was happening in her life, he wanted to know she was safe and secure and...

As if remembering out of the blue, Griffon turned to Aya. "You used one of my flower drawings with your tattoo... I don't remember if I said anything to you when it happened, but... I just wanted to say that it made me feel really special, and I think it looks gorgeous on you." He said, a blush forming on his cheeks. "Can... Can I see it? I don't remember what it looks like..." He said, not wanting to lie to Aya or give her any unanswered questions. After she answered him, either showing him the tattoo directly or her sketch of it. Griffon tried to force it to stay in his mind. This had never worked in the past, trying to force something to remain in his brain. Strangely the things he remembered the most were things that were strange, small and possibly unimportant. But he crossed his fingers with this. With any moment with Aya, Cas or Fable he crossed his fingers and hoped he would remember as much of it as possible. It was foolish to hope that he could remember all of it, but he hoped he could remember over half of it. Even now as he sat here, the simulation was fading to a distant dream, and soon, by tomorrow, he would only remember tiny snippets of it unless he read the account he'd written down of it multiple times. "I would love to keep spending time with you. " He said, eyes alight with joy at the suggestion. He was just shading the buildings to show distance and shadows as she asked. "I have no idea what there is to do, or what I've already done. But I would just be happy to spend time with you, no matter what we are doing." He said, almost forgetting that he was saying it directly to Aya, rather than admitting something like that to Fable or Cas. Again a deep blush blossomed on his cheek and he tried to make it look like he was deeply engrossed in his sketch. He tried to think hard about things they could do, it wasn't like he couldn't remember anything but... All he could think about was spending time with Aya, and how nice that was. "Whatever you want to do I'd be happy to do." He said. "Except swimming, I don't think I know how to swim..." He said, realizing that he wasn't comfortable swimming for multiple reasons. He wasn't sure he knew how. He knew either he or Cas had fallen in the river as children and had almost drowned. He also knew that swimming was usually done shirtless, and that was something he wasn't comfortable with. He waited to see what Aya would say.

Bloom

Mood: Mixed

Location: Testing Center

Interactions: Phillip, Ghost, Mentions: Thorn, Aya

A sinking feeling pulled at Bloom’s gut almost as though a rock had just fallen into her stomach. Aya and Thorn had tied, that shouldn’t be possible and certainly wasn’t something that should come to the attention of anyone other than Phillip, herself, and perhaps Thorn and/or Aya. Ties didn’t happen, they were an anomaly and a very unwelcome one at that. No one higher up the chain of command would be impressed by the initiates for doing the impossible, instead, it would bring misfortune upon both of them. Thorn and Aya didn’t deserve that, they had worked hard to overcome their fears and they certainly hadn’t done anything to intentionally beat the system. Luck just didn’t seem to be on their side though but Bloom was and she wouldn’t let them take the fall for this. As Thorn came over and asked who had won Bloom knew she would need to tell him a bit of the truth in order to make sure he fell in line with what she planned next. “You and Aya tied.” She told him in a low and serious tone. “But you cannot tell anyone else that. If anyone, and I mean anyone asks you didn’t face Aya, you faced Finn and Aya faced Blair.” Her face remained a calm and collected expression as she knew there were cameras around the facility and while their audio sucked the image could be very clear. She didn’t want her expression to give away that anything was wrong or out of the ordinary and she hoped Phillip would do the same. The tall brunette instructor couldn’t be certain if Thorn had actually listened to her but by the look in his eyes, she believed he understood how serious this situation was. With a few muddled words, the young man retreated back down the hall.

Instantly Bloom’s fingers fell upon the keyboard and danced across the screens as she began working to remedy the situation. Hearing Phillip tell her that she needed to delete the file Bloom couldn’t even spare the second it would take to side-eye him. “I know.” She replied, her tone reflecting that she understood how dire the situation could turn. “I am deleting their test, adjusting the roster, and prompting the system to register their simulation as a victory by forfeit.” She explained to him in a hushed voice as her fingertips danced over the different keys and she tore any evidence of what happened apart. Luckily it seemed she and Phillip were on the same page once again as he expressed he had had a similar idea and this seemed like the path that would allow Aya and Thorn to most likely fly safely under the radar. As Bloom worked she heard Phillip begin to express his feelings on the matter and how Dauntless treated situations such as these as well as how Bloom would risk her job by keeping the evidence around. That hadn’t been something she had thought about up until that point. Sure she liked being an instructor but what had mattered to her most over the past few minutes was ensuring Aya and Thorn didn’t have their lives destroyed by one fluke that was unlikely to happen again any time soon.

At some point, while she was working to make sure no trace of the simulation still existed anywhere within the system Phillip and Honey had wandered off. Once she was done with her cover up Bloom’s mint green gaze swept the training center until they fell upon Ghost, Phillip, and Honey all standing together. Phillip was winking and smiling and even from this distance she could hear the laughter in his tone, Ghost on the other hand looked far from thrilled, and by the snap he gave Phillip she knew things were far from peachy in their conversation. After a few moments, Phillip and Honey began to saunter back toward the monitor zone and Bloom gave Phillip a look. As the usually playful and flirtatious male gave her one of his signature smiles and told her it was just a little bet she couldn’t help but roll her eyes and shake her head as she held back a small smile. “You shouldn’t keep pushing at Ghost.” She advised and knew Phillip didn’t mean any harm by it but Ghost had a lot on his plate as of late and that was only with the stuff she knew about. She was more than certain that there were plenty of secrets going on in Ghost’s life that she had no idea about. In response to her suggestion, Phillip simply gave her a smile that she could only describe as purely adorkable and brought a smile to her lips as well. It was truly amazing how he could do that to her, not that she didn’t smile a lot already but even when she was trying to be serious he somehow made her want to smile along with him. Hearing his question about the end-of-training day routine she nodded her head and chuckled as he claimed it was ridiculous to have to take everything down and set it up again each and every day. “It’s the best way to make sure no one tampers with it between sessions.” She explained and gently nudged him with her hip. “Not hop to it or do I have to make Honey tell you to do it too?” She joked, beginning to feel a bit more at ease now that she knew Aya and Thorn would be okay.

Once Phillip had gone off to clear the rooms Bloom returned to her monitors and began to go through the rest of the initiate's results and upload them, moving through the routine as she had been taught to do. As she worked she caught sight of a figure lingering in the doorway to her right but seeing as she was close to the end of her task she waited to address them until she had finished. The drumming of fingers upon the doorframe was a telltale sign of who might be standing there and as she finished up the last of her work she was proven right by the familiar voice of Ghost drifting into her ears. Turning in her chair she laid her arms on the armrests and looked at him, her eyes glimmering with amusement as he spoke. “Is that so?” She replied, her brow quirked as she considered what Ghost was suggesting. “Well, it just so happens that I know someone who would very much like to unwind with a good climb and thinks it would be an interesting idea to bring someone new along.” Her lips pulled upwards into a smile as she felt her body practically bubbling with newfound energy at the idea of going for a climb. “So long as that new person doesn’t mind taking advice about climbing.” She added, wanting to make it clear that Ghost would likely want to listen to any pointers she gave him in order to ensure his safety.
