Bloom

Mood: Hopeful

Location: Blooms Apartment

Interactions: Mentions Phillip and Honey

Waking before her alarm was something Bloom had always done simply because when she was younger she never had an alarm to wake her and needed to learn to trust her internal clock. As the brunette lay in bed with her hair fanned around the pillow and her bare leg sticking out from under the covers she thought back to the night before and her time with Phillip. A light rosy flush bloomed on her pale features but in the dark of her room no one would be able to notice, not that there was anyone there to notice. Her darling friend had been as charming as ever, truly he had, and there were times that Bloom found herself thinking how nice it would be to have a night out that wasn’t so…spontanious. For a moment the night before she couldn’t help but wonder if Phillip had been thinking the same thing. He was such a flirt that she doubted she would ever truly know what he was thinking or feeling, most of the time his flirting was just his way of being friendly. When the dark-haired Parks boy issued the suggestion that they return to the taco shop they had visited last night Bloom remembered how curious she had felt. Part of her believed it was just Phillip expressing his enjoyment of the place and his desire to return at some point with the person she found it with. However, another part of Bloom believed it might have been a genuine attempt to ask her out. Would Phillip want that? Truly? Sure, they had flirted more times than she could count and they had a way of making each other laugh like no one else could. She had thought about the idea many times over the years, some of those times happening yesterday and last night; but she knew Phillip was never really one to enjoy commitment and he had just left a relationship not too long ago. Still, Bloom remembered how she agreed that the two of them should certainly return to the shop together and she had even mentioned jokingly that Honey could be her date to keep the good mood rolling.

Turning her head across her deep purple satin pillowcase Bloom’s minty green gaze glowed red as she looked into the bright crimson light of her alarm clock. It would be going off in just a few minutes and force her from the comfort of the covers and the pillows. Beside it though her phone lay plugged in and charging, its screen faced down so that it did not light up her room with notifications through the night. For a moment the brunette lay still and looked at it, silent thoughts dancing through her head as she considered her next move carefully. When a few heartbeats of debate passed she finally reached a bare arm out from under the covers and picked up her phone. Looking at the lock screen she saw a few messages that she would get to later but none seemed to be from Phillip. Swiping the screen open and flicking through her texts Bloom found her most recent conversation with Phillip not too far down from the top and began typing. ‘Wakey wakey sleepy head. We have a lot to cover before training starts today. Wanna meet up at Cin-Aholics for breakfast before we head over to the Training Center? I know it isn’t tacos but I promise it will still be delicious!’ She asked and hoped that the promise of delux cinnamon buns would be enough to draw Phillip out of bed so that they could hang out a bit before training actually began.

Not waiting to see if he would reply right away Bloom placed her phone beside her pillow and pushed her covers off of her body. Swinging her long lean legs over the edge of the bed the young woman stood up and began to move around her room to ready herself for the day. Shedding her silky nightgown and pulling a Devil Child crop top t-shirt over her head Bloom paired the shirt with a pair of fishnet leggings, tattered and torn black jeans that showed the fishnet design going down her legs, combat boots, and a red leather jacket. The outfit was causal but stylish and easy to move in which was all Bloom could ask for. She enjoyed looking nice but would never compromise her ability to fight in order to do so. With her makeup done soon after a brown hairband was slipped onto her wrist with a small charm bracelet and Bloom was ready to head out for the day. She picked her phone back up from the side of her pillow and looked at the screen to see if Phillip had replied or not, her heart swelling with hope that he had.

Nerdy. Nerdy.

Christian Parks || 16 || Initiate || Dauntlessborn

Walking home from his conversation with Briony, Christian worried about Blair. He had broken up with her and he had thought that had been the smart and wise decision, but now she was missing, and a small part of him worried if it was his fault. Had she run away? Had she done something stupid? Or... A knot formed in his stomach as he thought back to the truth Blair had shared with him. Had her Divergency been the cause of her disappearance? Worry caused him to feel ill as cramps developed in his abdomen, he stuffed his hands in his pockets and shuffled on home, his mind a mess and his heart aching. He would ask Vex tomorrow, ask her whether she knew where Blair was or if she could keep an eye out for her, he knew she was much more observant and better at things than him. Plus, she was a good friend and Chris trusted her. He thought about Briony, about how she must be feeling now, having her sister disappearing and not even talking to her. That would be hard, and Chris hoped that when Briony got home that she would be able to have a good talk with Blair, maybe she'd be able to explain what Chris had said to her, and show her that it was all for good that this was happening. It was all for Blair. He hoped that Briony would be able to get through to Blair. Either way, he finally made his way home, and getting into the house he was not surprised when the only person home was Phillip, at least that was the only person around. He watched as his older brother bounded over to him, Honey in tow waiting for head pats and cuddles, to which Chris obliged by kneeling and giving her a warm hug. "Hey little bro! I was gonna tell you earlier but you weren't around. I'm going to be helping out with your training! So you'll be seeing heaps more of me and Honey around the place." Phillip said, with a strong slap to Christian's back and a poke in the ribs. The usual anger that flared up from simple physical frustration was non-existent, and Christian actually just smiled as Phillip did so, standing up to look his brother in the eyes. "That's awesome Phillip, it'll be fun to have you around." Phillip seemed taken aback by this friendliness, but soon bounced back from it, grinning even more, though he crinkled his nose up. "You smell of smoke." He said, though asked no questions. Christian just nodded. "Yeah, I need a shower. I'll see you in the morning at training. Bye Honey." He leaned down to give Honey a big hug, and then headed off to the bathroom. He hadn't felt the need to tell Phillip why he smelled of smoke, and honestly he didn't think Phillip cared to know. Phillip was always just glad whenever Christian was out and about doing whatever he liked. They had become a lot better this last week, now that Christian was not always perpetually angry. He hopped in the shower, simply washing away the smoky scent on his body and cleaning himself, before heading to his room, lying down and promptly falling asleep.

Waking up, Christian was again aware of the fact that he didn't have his phone. He got up a bit groggily, his head still spinning from his lull intake yesterday, and he shuffled around the room looking for the lightswitch. He winced as the light blared on, and he dulled it to a better level, so that he could see without a sore head and groggy eyes. For the next ten minutes he searched his room thoroughly, going through his clothes and drawers and anything else he could think of in order to find his phone. But to no avail, he couldn't find it anywhere. He knew he could get one if he wanted to, so he made sure that he had some money on him, that way if he walked past a shop he could quickly go in a get a phone. He didn't need it most of the time, but with Briony all over his case, he knew he would need one. Going into his closet, he slipped on a white tank top with a light sports black hoodie over top, left open so the white shirt could be seen. He paired it with black cargo pants and combed his hair properly so that it wouldn't be a mess. Putting on some black sports sneakers he came out of his room and went downstairs, he thought about having breakfast, but as he looked into the kitchen he could see that there was nobody up yet, or nobody around. Being a bit too lazy to make his own breakfast, Christian shrugged and made his way out the door. Once outside, his goal was to go to the hospital, then to drop by Shayla's place to check on Lev, and then head to training. He wanted to see how Shayla was, and then he wanted to make sure her cat was okay. So thus he started walking in the direction of the hospital. The way to get there though was right past the Avalon's place, and he couldn't help but feel reminiscent of every time he walked to Blair's place. How he had even climbed up the side of the house to get directly into Blair's room. How they had spent some of their favourite nights in Blair's room. He shivered with regret and sadness that it wasn't something that would be happening for a while. So as he walked by it he tried not to look, not wanting to feel sad about the fact that he was not currently in a relationship with Blair. However, he didn't get far past their house before a tug on his sleeve became apparent and he turned around to see Briony standing there. He smiled, happy to see her, but his smile quickly faded as he saw the concern and worry on her face. "Briony... what's wrong?" He asked, concern clear in his voice and demeanour. As she opened up about how Blair hadn't come home, Chris felt that tickle of anger spark in his gut. Where was she? Anxiety and anger swirled up within him and he grinded his teeth together as he felt responsible for this again. Briony kept speaking, saying that she had a lead. When she said she didn't want him involved though, he couldn't help but feel terribly frustrated. "Just... keep me in touch would you? I don't want you getting hurt." He said, pain clearly in his voice at the thought of her being in pain. As she laughed, flirtatiously running her hands over her body as she declared that she wouldn't allow herself to get hurt, he found his eyes clinging to her every curve. She might have looked much like Blair, but every moment he spent with her alone reminded him of the fact that she wasn't. Her body shape was similar to Blair's but there were differences. Her face although similar was starkly different the more you spoke with her. She was every bit as beautiful as Blair though. He sighed, knowing that he could do nothing to stop Briony from investigating on her own, and knowing that if she needed him he just had to hope that she would cctually call on him.

As they ordered breakfast - Christian ordering a breakfast burger, hash browns and a black coffee - they sat and talked about nothing. It wasn't something that Chris could usually do, but for once he found it rather lovely to simply spend time with Briony. He couldn't recall the last time they had ever done so. "This is nice." He agreed with her, and smiled warmly. He happily ate his burger and hashbrowns, downing his coffee and putting them in a nice pile for the waiter as they headed off. He hadn't argued with Briony about paying for the meal, but he knew he would have to make it up to her and pay for something else another time. As they were walking towards training, he remembered how he had wanted to go to the hospital, and he felt frustrated that he had forgotten. He would have to make a trip there after training, as now it was too late to make it there beforehand. If Briony noticed his frustration then she didn't say anything, in fact she simply continued chatting about whatever she was thinking about, and Christian was happy to listen, enjoying her voice and conversation. They finally got to the training room, and people were just getting set up, Christian watched as Briony headed off to talk to Ghost, whom they were all surprised to see. Why was he here? Hadn't he been fired? That's what Chris had been told anyway. Oh well, it didn't look like Warren was here anyway, and he was the person who had been hired to take over, so maybe Ghost wasn't fired. Christian could see Phillip and Bloom speaking together near all the equipment, and Honey was hanging out with whomever was giving her the most head pats at the moment. Charlie was the one actually setting up the chairs with all the syringes and equipment. He looked around for those he knew. Aubrey was there, even though they were going to do a simulation, she was stretching, rather than resting. She seemed to have a bit of sweat on her, so he wondered if she'd been out for her daily morning run. He saw Vex and waved to her, but didn't go over yet, he wanted to talk to her, but he figured it would be better to do so in private. "Briony!" He called over, not wanting to disturb her exactly but just wanting to mention to her that Blair wasn't here either. He was sure she would be able to tell that herself, but he though it good to know as soon as possible. IF Blair kept dropping tests, she would fall off the score board and she would become factionless. Briony might have been the only person who could bring Blair back, if she was upset. Briony finally came back, and Christian listened as she explained why she was talking to Ghost. "Blair's still not here. If she misses this training... She's not going to have many more chances to make it into Dauntless." He said seriously to Briony. Their eyes met with serious concern, and they both knew that it was impertinent that they find Blair as fast as possible. "After training we could look for her, either together or separately. I can ask others to look as well... I have some friends who are really resourceful." He said, and watched as Briony nodded, saying that she would be busy after training but would happily meet up with Chris later, and they could see if they had found Blair at all or at least knew where she was. 'And I promise I"ll buy a new phone today if I can't find my old one." He said, getting a smile out of Briony. As she asked about training, he looked at the seats and other initiates and wondered about who he would be going against today. "I'm interested to see how it will go today. Yesterday we experienced Charlie's fears, but today I don't know if we will be again. I wonder if it'll be one of our fears?" He mused aloud.

Phillip Parks || 19 || Soldier/Trainer || Dauntlessborn

Phillip had gone to bed a happy man. His evening with Bloom had sent him into a cheerful and chirpy mood, and he had arrived home only moments before Christian had. Thus he had excitedly told his little brother that he would be joining the trainers, and Christian actually seemed happy. Phillip had been surprised, but also happy. He had lain in bed after that, Honey lying beside him as usual, and he thought about it. This would be a much more pleasant time than his usual security roles. He was excited to spent more time with Bloom and with Chris and others that he knew, like Charlie and Briony. He thought of his date with Bloom, and even if it wasn't a date he was thinking of it like it was. It had been very pleasant, they got along well and rubbed each other the right way, having a good time and only swapping smiles and laughs. Honey adored Bloom too, and this made Phillip so happy. He was excited to spent more time with Bloom, a thought that he'd had before, but had not been able to do much when her job switched to trainer and his to security. Two very different jobs with different hours and schedules. He was also sad that Harper wasn't around, he'd always liked Harper, and had found her so fun to flirt with, as she genuinely seemed to hate it and love it at the same time. HE chuckled, wondering how she was as he fell off asleep.
The next morning he was up early, getting dressed and getting ready to take Honey for a walk. He plopped on a simple black t-shirt with a navy blue jacket on over top, he wore skinny black jeans and some boots. He made sure Honey was fed and had had some water, and gave her a good brush in the bathroom, then gave her an adorable black and white checkered bandana to wear today. Not needing a leash, he was about to leave the house when his phone buzzed and he received a message from someone. He quickly opened his phone, and grinned widely as he saw that it was from Bloom. He immediately began typing back. "Who's the sleepy one? I'm already awake. I'll beat you there and last one there pays for the food!" He sent back, then sent a selfie of him and Honey already at the door and ready to exit. Then he stuffed his phone in his pocket. "Okay Honey, we gotta make it in time." He said, and with that he took off running at a high speed. He was a good runner, and had spent much of his years running, he found that it often calmed his brain and was a way in which he could exert energy thoughtfully and without stress and anxiety. Running was calming. Honey ran beside him, she was so obedient that she didn't try to run far ahead, or to lag behind, or to even get distracted. Even though Dauntless were allowed pets and nobody cared about them, not many pets or animals could be seen actually in the Dauntless compound. Phillip had been very glad for Honey especially when he was in the factionless areas, as that was where the rabid dogs and the strays went, and as much as Phillip wanted to care for them (and he did as much as he could, often bringing them to factionless or dog shelters that he knew would genuinely look after them) he knew that if they were dangerous, and Honey had protected him from a good many. Honey being around meant Phillip did not have to use his weapons on the dogs, as Honey would usually be a big enough presence to stop a dog attack in the first place. She was a dog, so she wasn't perfect obviously, and she had her own flaws.

As Phillip ran up to Cin-Aholics, he was grateful to see he had beaten Bloom there. Taking a break to breathe and drink some water, he pulled his hands through his hair and waltzed into the place, a grin on his face from having won his own stated race. Walking up to the counter, he waved down the server, smiling widely at the pleasant looking boy who was serving. 'Hello there, I would love to order some breakfast for me and a friend who will be on their way, and also some refreshments for my dog." Phillip said, leaning over the counter just enough to be somewhat provoking and flirtatious. The man on the other side smiled quite happily and wryly at this, and nodded, immediately asking what the order would be. "For my friend, would you please make a smores combo." He said, seeing that it was a special combo at the moment, a s'mores cinnamon roll with a s'more iced coffee. He had no doubts that Bloom would absolutely adore that. "As for myself I would like the gingerbread cinnamon roll with the spiced cinnamon mochaccino." He said, struggling to make up his mind but finally coming to what was hopefully the right decision. "And my Honey here, would love a bowl of water and a cinnamon roll dog treat." He said, and paying for the food he found the most comfortable table near the window, with some lovely booth seating that was coloured in an amusing red that had faded to a stripy pink colour from the sun and old use. He told Honey to stay lying on the floor, and got comfortable on his side of the booth, stretching his feet out and keeping an eye on the door for whenever Bloom would arrive. He wanted to see how much farther behind than him she was, and whether she would realize that his joke about whoever was last had to pay was just a joke. Of course he wouldn't have let her pay for it just because she was late, that would have been lame, he enjoyed spending money on his friends, it wasn't like it was his money anyway. His dad made enough money for Phillip to use it and Obadiah to never realize it was being used. Not only that, Oscar, Jacob, Terra and Felicia all had enough money from their careers to not even need Obadiah's money, so it was really only the three youngest using it, Asher, Phillip and Christian. Christian only used it sporadically, and Asher never bought anything expensive, so Phillip was happy to use the money carelessly. He didn't care that much if Obadiah was upset by it, he had had enough arguments with him to not worry about upsetting him anymore. After a few minutes, Bloom jogged up to the place, and as she walked in Phillip whistled and her head swung over to him. He waved with a goofy grin and beckoned her to come over. She rolled her eyes delightfully at him as she came over, and he patted the seat opposite from him so that they could sit and talk to each other. As always, Honey immediately began wagging her tail, and it could be heard thumping against the wooden floor, as Bloom approached, and finally Honey couldn't help herself and she jumped up, begging for pets and trying to give Bloom licks and nuzzling her head in her pockets for treats. "Honey! Hey, we talked about this." Phillip laughed as he whistled for Honey to stop, and Honey hesitated but obediently stopped, sitting down with her head lopsided, tongue hanging out and her eyes wide with love for Bloom. "Bloom you have to stop stealing my dogs heart, I swear I'm gonna wake up one day and either Honey's gonna be gone, or you're gonna be in my room with her." He said, laughing at the idea. Honey finally let Bloom sit down, and happily plopped her head on Bloom's lap, tail still thumping on the floor with delight.

"Ah, and here's the amazing food to go along with the amazing company." Phillip said as the waiter brought out their food, both cinnamon rolls and coffees looked divine, and Phillip was almost sad he hadn't got the smores combo for himself. "I hope you like marshmallows and chocolate, I thought you might, given how sweet and fluffy you are." He said, as he took a sip of his spiced Mocha. "Ah, that's good, I was almost beginning to doubt I made the right choice, but this is hitting the spot for me this morning." Honey sadly had to take her head off of Bloom as the bowl of water and treat for her was brought out and she happily lay down to eat it, after finishing she lay down at Bloom and Phillips feet. Bloom raised an eyebrow at Phillip having paid for the food even after his message, and Phillip shrugged, not giving explanation but just munching on his roll. They didn't get down to business immediately, instead they chatted about nonimportant subjects in between bites and sips of their food. Soon enough though they were finished with the actual meal, and they got up to leave, and that's when the more serious conversation started. "Okay, so run me down what we gotta do, because I'm like a babe in this, I went through it a few years ago but I swear everything's changed since then." He said, wiping the left over cinnamon roll glaze that was on his chin and throwing the paper towel in the bin as they left the place. He listened intently as Bloom began to explain what the day would be like today. She explained that yesterday had been the start of Phase 3, with them having to complete the fearscapes rather than just survive them and learn to be brave in the last phase. He nodded along, trying to remember how that had been when he had done it. He had done pretty well at all the phases, the second being the hardest for him. Physically he had been at an adequate position to do well, and even at the third phase he was pretty good at figuring out what the necessary thing was to do in each scape, but in the second phase it had been hard with all the things he'd been afraid of, and he had suffered a little during that time. He was glad that they weren't doing that phase, and that he only had to come in for the third phase. "You used Charlie's fears last time? That must have been tough for her, I know she's quite private with that sort of stuff." He said, as they strolled along and Bloom nodded along sadly at what Phillip had said, saying that she regretted not using her own rather than letting Charlie deal with it. She voiced her thoughts about possibly doing her own this time, though wasn't sure about it. "Why don't you use theirs?" Phillip asked, remembering that that was what had happened when he was young. Bloom then went on to explain that currently they were doing this in pairs, fighting for who would win the scape first. "Wow, that's tough, very different to when I did it. Well then... Why don't you have both of their fears? I'm fairly sure our systems have updated enough to do that now." He said, thinking to some of the things he had seen being developed. Bloom stopped to think about it, and then said she would ask Charlie, who knew the systems better than her. "Will Ghost be around? Do you think? He's technically fired isn't he?" Phillip said, watching as Bloom shrugged in response.

Finally entering the training room, it was easy to tell they were the first there, since the lights were off and there was no sound coming from it. Bloom quickly flicked the lights on and Phillip blinked as the grungey lights began to warm up and begin lighting the room. It was still half set up from yesterday, though with none of the syringes and nothing turned on. Bloom called Phillip over to the control area, and began to explain to him what the different things did, showing him the monitors where you could watch the fearscapes, the right buttons that could stop and start each one, how to monitor their life signs. "Ah yes, who was it yesterday that had a health scare? Shayla? She'll be sad to miss out today. Knowing how relentless Dauntless is she will simply lose points for not being here, even when being in hospital." He sighed, feeling anger at the stupid systems that seemed to hate those who might be deemed weaker for reasons not their own. Bloom nodded in sadness, and continued showing him all the things, then she started writing up the list of who would verse who today. Phillip watched in amusement, though turned his head as the doors opened and shut, and he saw Charlie enter the room. The surprise on Charlie's face was quickly replaced with joy at seeing Phillip. "Charlie!" He cried out happily, walking over with Honey who was gently padding next to him. He remembered that Charlie was not a hug person, so he simply stopped when he was near her and nodded his head respectfully. "It's nice to see you! I didn't get a chance to tell you yesterday, but I've been hired as another trainer." He quickly informed her. She smiled warmly at him, having already bent down to give Honey some head pats. Honey was so good with different people, as she didn't have the huge energy that she did with Phillip or Bloom, but instead was slow and careful around Charlie, as if Honey knew that the slightest thing could set Charlie panicking. Phillip knew Charlie loved Honey, but he also knew Charlie was much more sensitive and in need of gentleness than Bloom.
"It'll be nice to have you around Phillip, I think you and Bloom are exactly what the kids need right now." Charlie said to Phillip as she looked over and waved at Bloom, a wide smile on Charlie's face. Phillip saw that she seemed to have more life in her than usual, and a grin popped on his face. "You look lovely today Charlie, Bloom's shown me everything to do with that stuff over there, can I help you with whatever you're doing?" Phillip asked, wanting to learn more and also be helpful. Charlie thought about it but quickly nodded, showing him what she was doing and then letting him do one himself. Setting the syringes up, making sure everything was sterilised and clean, and making sure all the systems were up and running and there were no faults. Phillip could not do this nearly as fast as Charlie, and he politely let her finish as he went back to Bloom. "Hey Bloom... Does Charlie just seem so much more livelier than usual?" He asked, watching Bloom's face closely as she looked at her friend. Seeing that there might be information he was missing, he tugged her sleeve childishly. "You know something don't you? Oh come on... You can tell me, why is Charlie beaming like she's just been on a date?" He asked, eyes flashing mischeviously and having that childlike desire for fun. He was grateful that currently there weren't any of the kids around yet, having time alone/semi-alone with Bloom was so nice.

Shayla

Mood: Determined

Location: Hospital / Apartment

Interactions: Open

There had been many nights before that Shayla found herself unable to lull sleep into her presence due to the horrific agony raking through her skull but none as bad as what she had experienced in the last twenty-four hours. All night she lay in a cold sweat, her brow twitching from the nerves being under high stress due to the pain radiating in her brain. A few nose bleeds, blurred lights, and high-pitched tones were sprinkled through the night as she lay in her hospital bed trying to get any sleep she could but never managing a wink. There were a few points in the late evening and early morning hours that the temping thought of sending a bone drill through her skull was heavily considered but that would have required standing up which Shay had no ability to do. Any time she tried the dark-haired girl's world would spin and she would end up in a terrible state of vertigo that sent her crashing back into her pillow. The blankets of the hospital bed felt like scratching ropes trying to net her down and a few times she fought against them in a dazed state only to end up tangled and more uncomfortable than she had before. The pillow beneath her head was like cement despite being a fluffy cloud to anyone else. Nothing would bring her comfort or allow the pain and pressure to be relieved and all night Shay silently hoped that it would all just go away for good.

As dawn crept through the flat blinds of the hospital room Shay began to feel the pressure in her head alleviate and the pain lessened slightly. She felt weak and tired, her body and spirit absolutely drained from the night of hell she endured. Yet still, the dark-haired woman refused to lay back and let herself fall behind. She was well aware that Dauntless training didn’t make exceptions for the weak and she would need to get herself to the testing center even if she had to drag herself with just her fingertips there. With a great effort that left her swaying Shayla managed to swing her legs over the side of the bed and stand. It wasn’t an easy journey but slowly she shuffled to the private bathroom of her hospital room and looked at herself in the mirror. What she saw in her reflection didn’t surprise her in the slightest but might be hard for others to see. She had dried blood smeared across her face from the nose bleeds she had suffered through the night. A bit of dried blood also had painted itself against her ears and into her hair. The dark circles under her eyes were made even more prominent by the paleness of her skin which seemed to lack any of the normal blush tones a healthy person would have. All in all, Shay looked and felt like a walking corpse.

Grabbing the clothes she had been brought to the hospital in Shay slipped into them with a few heartbeats break between pieces to help with the dizziness. She knew the shirt was covered with blood that had dried into the black fabric and had no intention of wearing it all day but needed to look semi-normal in order to make it past the nurses as they started and ended their shifts. She had no intention of staying in this hospital any longer than she already had and so the moment she saw an opening in the hall she slipped out of her room, snuck past the nurse's desk, and stumbled into the stairwell. The descent down the concrete steps was a daunting one as things once again began to spin for her but Shay swallowed hard and kept herself upright and moving as she clung with a white knuckle grip to the railing. It took longer than she would have liked but around ten minutes later the dark haired girl was slipping out of the emergency exit and onto the streets of Dauntless. The sunrise burned her brain as she blinked and tried her best not to tear up, her feet carrying her home and she occasionally found a building to lean on. The journey wasn’t an easy one but Shay just kept reminding herself to put one foot in front of the other and after what felt like a lifetime she reached the door of her apartment she shared with Lainey. She prayed her bubbly housemate was fast asleep or had stayed the night out because the last thing she wanted to do was enter a conversation about what had happened to her and why she was at the hospital. When the door opened Shay was able to breathe a sigh of relief to find the apartment dark and quiet. The only sound and movement came from a large golden and orange tabby that got to his paws and came trotting over to her with loud purrs rumbling like thunder in his throat. “Lev.” She sighed with a small, relieved, smile as he rubbed against her legs and put his front paws up on her to get his head pet.

Rhysand(Rhys).

Rhysand had actually enjoyed his evening with Aubrey it was nice just hanging out with someone. It had been a bit since he actually had gotten to hang out with anyone and it not be because something had happened. The two of them had gone over tattoos giving input on possibilities or remarking on what would look good on one another tossing some of their friends names into us as well seeing some of the designs. Once it grew later they had decided to call it a night promising to meet up again one night to try out those other dessert drinks. The two exchanging numbers before wishing one another a good nights rest because they would need it for tomorrow. Rhysand walked back with her most of the way though making sure she made it safely to where she was heading as he would feel bad if anything happened to her. When they were officially parted the male made his way back towards his apartment he couldn’t wait to get back and shower then watch a bit of tv before heading to bed. The male felt completely exhausted having dealt with the craziness of the simulation earlier with Shayla suddenly passing out in the middle of it then with Rafe having taken over. It was a lot easier now switching, but it was still rough at times. He was a bit frustrated though not knowing exactly what had gone on while Rafe had taken control he knew a few bits of it other than that he was in the dark about it. He had a feeling something had happened though to set Rafe on edge just a bit a feeling of unease filtering through him wasn’t something he himself was feeling but was coming from Rafe.

Rhysand’s keys jingled as he unlocked the door to his place before heading inside locking the door behind him. He kicked his shoes off before heading towards his room grabbing a few things for the shower before heading there next. It didn’t take long before warm water pounded on his tired body easing the muscles to relax as his mind wondered off a bit. There wasn’t something right about him the pieces were starting to make sense now he really was a divergent which wasn’t good. As the water continued running down his body he mechanically grabbed his body wash starting to clean himself mind lost in thought still. It would be best tomorrow if he didn’t win against whoever he was up against so with that in mind he finished up his shower. The male heading off to bed moving the covers down to slide in before covering back up his thoughts flickering some. However sleep soon over took him vanquishing any of the previous thoughts as slumber seemed to take over. The sleep was peaceful at first before the sound of a screeching car the sound of crashing metal seemed to fill his dreams it was a nightmare. He was remembering the car accident that had killed his parents the car he had been thrown out of last minute by his father before the man and vehicle caught flame before bursting into an inferno. The next moment he was sitting up in bed sweat coating his body his breath coming in rapid gasps before his brain forced itself to realize he was awake. That what had been happening was just a nightmare his breathing returning to normal as he calmed down. He shook his covers off before looking towards the alarm seeing the bright red letters displaying it was 5am a small groan left him. It wasn’t worth going back to sleep now not when he would need to be up soon anyway so getting up then shuffling groggily back to the bathroom was the main plan. Once there it didn’t take long for the cold water splashed upon his face to full awaken him. After about 15 minutes he left the bathroom having taken another quick shower then brushed his teeth ready enough for the day. Rhysand dressed swiftly throwing on some black sweats, black t-shirt, same with his socks and shoes before heading out deciding on a morning jog before having to join the others.

The rhythmic sound of feet hitting pavement helped soothe his nerves even more as he continued jogging. The cool morning air was refreshing on his skin as well as in the lungs. He kept an even pace letting his mind wonder freely as he just jogged his usual route. However the sight of a familiar blonde had his pace picking up as Randi came further into sight. “Hey!” he called out approaching her swiftly wanting to talk with her. It had been a long while since they had gotten to actually talk with one another there had been so much going on. He felt himself falter some once he saw her she looked a bit roughed up though it was clear she had cleaned herself up the best she could. “Hey what’s happened are you okay?” he asked her. He raised an eyebrow as she seemed to quickly tell him about a fight she had gotten into while going home. That some drunk had harassed her then tried to harm her so they had gotten into it. Rhysand had known her long enough to tell she was lying some, but he wasn’t gonna push her considering they weren’t as close anymore. The male felt a hollow pit in his stomach at the fact they weren’t as close anymore it probably had to do with his feelings towards her. It had taken them being separated for him to realize he was more than likely in love with her. However the male had never actually been in love before so he didn’t want to just assume those were the feelings he held within himself. He focused once more on the present thought as she suddenly asked him how he had been remembering that Shayla had collapsed during their testing yesterday. “Yeah I’m okay there wasn’t anything wrong with the test from what I can tell. I think maybe something was just going on with Shayla herself.” He said with a shrug as he followed along with her. “I haven’t been into much I hung out with Aubrey last night after I ran into her at the infirmary. There was a damn nice place she took me to that had these dessert drinks. You and I should go there sometime I think you’d like it.” He said grinning though a faint tint of pink colored his cheeks.

Thorn

Thorn didn’t return to the barracks for the evening after his picnic with Charlie. He didn’t feel he could be around more people for the rest of the evening so instead, he turned his focus elsewhere. All through the night Thorn’s forge was burning as he poured himself into his work and focused all his energy on the project he had put aside at the start of training. With the fires burning bright and sweat dripping from his brow the young freckled man molded the metal he had before him into an elegantly forged blade. As the form was brought from concept into reality Thorn was able to witness how far he had come in his craft. He was no longer the scrawny kid with pointless doodles of what he one day hoped to make, now he was truly creating and what he created was something he knew he could be proud of. It was a bit hard to be proud though since with each stroke the young man wished his mother were able to be there at the end to see the final product. This sword was a tribute to a story she told him when he was a child and he had hoped she would be able to look upon it with fond memories one day. Now it was just a vessel for the memories he had of her, the crafting of it becoming a meditation and a way to process the pain. Through the night and into the wee hours of the morning Thorn worked without pause to craft the blade in the form he desired. He still needed to do so much before it was ready to be used including make sure it was sharp, craft the hilt, engrave it, and ensure it was well balanced. None of which could be done in time for training so as the sun began to rise Thorn dimmed his forge and took a seat at his bench. His one good eye watched the embers as the faded from white, yellow, orange, and red, rippling as though the fire within were truly alive and taking its final breaths.

As he stared into the flames Thorn began to think once more about the blade he had spent the night working on. It was made from the memory of how his mother had described the sword in the fairytale she shared with him as a child. The blade was one who could only be wielded by one known as the Seeker of Truth. Thorn always liked the story and how the blade, known as the Sword of Truth, would give the Seeker of Truth great power over his enemies but only if the Seeker truly and wholly believed the person to be an enemy. The sword and the Seeker had to work together, the sword did not make the Seeker but rather was a tool that helped to guide him towards the truth. While he knew his mother did not create this story it always sounded so magical coming from her. He supposed it must have come from some books she read when she was younger and she remembered with enough passion to pass it on to him. There were parts of the story that did not age as well as others, parts such as the Confessors. Anyone with the ability to demand anything at all from a person because they hold power over them quickly became a concept Thorn grew to dislike, even if not all Confessors were bad. It was hard not to associate real-life events and people with the story, especially now. Looking at the blade he hoped that it would live up to the sword he based it on and he prayed that in forging it he would be able to truly honor his mother's memory.

The rising sun caught his eye as it glinted off the metal blade and Thorn looked at the clock to see the time. It was almost time for training to begin and the rumble of his stomach signaled that he would do well to remember to eat before arriving at the training center. Getting up and moving around swiftly Thorn changed his shirt, washed his hands, and grabbed his things before departing his workshop. Locking the door behind him the young man tucked the keys away securely and turned to walk down the street towards a small shop he knew sold decent muffins. It was as he turned the corner that a blonde figure appeared coming from his blind side. Reaching out desperately to keep her from falling backward Thorn grabbed at her wrist and gasped, “Woah! Are you okay?” His startled gaze falling upon Aubrey for the first time in what felt like an eon.

Nerdy. Nerdy.

Charlotte "Charlie" Stark || 20 || Medic || Dauntlessborn

Shivers ran over Charlie's body as she lay in bed in the early hours of the morning. There was little that could be heard in Ghost's room, his breathing was steady, although more ragged than should be for an 18 year old, and Charlie could hear her own gentle breathing. Ghost's snake occasionally made a noise in it's Vivarium. It had been strange at first to accept that the slithering reptile had lived in Ghost's room, but eventually Charlie had gotten used to it, and now found the snake a comfort in this apartment block she thought of as home now. In the dark she could briefly make out the shape that was Ghost's body in the bed, and against shivers ran over her body, goosebumps arising on her bare skin and causing her to snuggle into the blankets more closely. Her thoughts could not help but go back to the evening, how nervous she had been to begin with, and yet how thrilling it had been to have such intimacy with Ghost, like she'd never had before. The way his hands felt, the way his lips felt, the way his body felt under her own hands. The way she had lost some of her fears in the moments of pleasure, and had felt more close to Ghost than she had ever felt with another person. Even now, as she could feel the blankets on her bare skin, reminding her of the intimacy that she'd opened up to him and been given in return, she could barely believe how she had been able to do so, how he'd been able to do something with her that usually terrified her. Her only memories and experiences with intimacy had been with those who had abused her, and so she had never thought she could be so close to someone without the abuse, or the fear of abuse, but Ghost had quickly shed that away, and she had lost herself in the moment. There was one moment, one moment where she had thought he would push her further than she was comfortable, as much as she was enjoying the exploration of their bodies, and the ability to be physically close to Ghost... She couldn't help but begin to feel pressured when the prospect of genuine sex was insinuated. She found that her tongue felt swollen and her body froze up, her heart beat fast and in her ears like a ringing bell. On the one had she couldn't deny that she desired that, but on the other hand her experiences had been only from Caspian pressuring her, and hurting her. She had struggled to say no, for both those reasons, but Ghost had not hurt her. She had been terrified of scaring him away by saying no, she had memories of forceful hands from Caspian that she feared - even though she knew better than to believe Ghost would lay hands on her - and she also was struggling with whether she did or didn't want to... Thankfully Ghost had made the decision, and as guilty as she had felt, for not being able to make it herself, she was relieved more than anything else. Whether it would have changed anything by having sex, Charlie was grateful that they hadn't. She wasn't sure if she could do that again, even after so many years had passed. This was a good step in showing that sexual intimacy could happen even after sexual trauma, but she wasn't quite ready. Of course, she worried that Ghost would want her to be ready, and she hoped that he would be patient with her. As drowsiness fell over her again, she softly shuffled under the blankets and drew closer to Ghost, snuggling softly into his arms and allowing their bare skin to touch and send delightful sparks of pleasure over her, as she drifted back into a drowsy morning sleep. She would need to wake up soon, but she couldn't help but steal more of this time. Plus, with Jeremy having knowledge of everything, she never knew what could be their last moment.

It was the close of a door that woke Charlie up, rather than any alarm. Ghost stirred but didn't awaken, and Charlie almost thought about falling back asleep, but then she remembered that Randi had stayed the night. A blush crept up her cheeks as she thought about this, had they made much noise last night? Did Randi think anything of her... Well.. what would there be to think? They were grown ups, and Charlie could see Ghost if she wanted to... Charlie gently rolled out of bed, slipping on a dressing gown and slippers and heading out of the bedroom, closing the door quietly behind her as to hopefully not wake up Ghost. She blinked as she entered the room, that was slightly brighter thanks to the nonexistent blinds on the windows, the morning sun beginning to stream in to the living room. Immediately there was a meow, a thump and a patter of paws as Darcy ran over to Charlie and began purring, circling her legs tightly and meowing multiple times. "Are you hungry?" Charlie asked him, bending down to pet his head softly. His pleasant chirping sounds made her smile, and she made her way to his cat bowl, filling it for him to eat, and checking his water to make sure it was still fine. She could tell as soon as she had gotten out of Ghost's room that Randi was gone, hence the door shutting, and she was a bit sad. She had wanted to check that Randi was okay, what with all the wounds and injuries that she'd had. She wondered if she tried running after her whether she could reach her, but knew that if Randi had left quietly then she probably didn't want to be followed. Charlie went into the kitchen and made herself a ginger tea and after it was finished steeping she went into Caspian's old room, the one she now primarily used for holding her clothes and anything she wanted in there. Sipping her tea and setting it on the bedside table, she began to shuffle through her clothes, wanting to find something that would be a comfortable but nice outfit to wear today. As she rifled through her closet, she came to a pretty black dress-jumpsuit that she hadn't worn in a while. Pulling it out she laid it on the bed, checking that it was still in good condition. She found that it was, and smiled happily as she decided that would be her outfit of the day, she paired it with a pair of shortly heeled black leather boots and a dark red denim jacket for if she got cold. Lying them all out on the bed she then made her way into the bathroom and de-robed, getting into the shower and washing herself. As much as she had enjoyed every moment that she'd spent with Ghost in the night, she did still desire to clean her body. Too many experiences of people's hands on her had caused her to always desire her body to be clean at the beginning or end of a day. She washed her hair and cleansed her face, deciding that she had time for a good shower. Once exiting the shower she dried off and slipped into her clothes, looking into the mirror to check how they looked on her. The dress-jumpsuit was adorable, although a little shorter than Charlie usually wore, but she sort of felt like that was a good mood for her today. The way the neck dropped in the V was a little deeper than she usually would wear, which is possibly why she never wore it, but she couldn't help but enjoy it right now. Leaving her washed hair down, as dry as she could make it with a towel gently, she finally placed on a pretty necklace that Ghost had bought her, and applied a little amount of makeup on. As much as Ghost had made mentions before of not loving make up, she liked it, and Ghost had seemed to begin to warm up to it. Finally feeling ready, she made sure her room was tidy, finished her now lukewarm tea, and took her cup back into the kitchen.

It was now heading to about an hour before training, and Charlie felt a little stab in her heart as she remembered that Ghost wasn't employed as a trainer anymore. She hoped he would still be there for some reason, not wanting to be separated for such a long amount of the day. Not because she was particularly clingy to him, but because she worried that every time they were apart she would never see him again because Jeremy would kill him. But he had no obligation to be up today until he wanted to, so Charlie knew there was a possibility he would stay in bed till late in the day. She got herself ready, packing her bag and cleaning Darcy's litterbox, and then after spraying her signature rose perfume on she dipped back into Ghost's room to say goodbye. Whether he was awake or not she couldn't tell, as she leaned over and gave him a quick peck on the cheek. "See you later, I have to go set up." She said, getting a mumble from Ghost that may have been english or possibly another language altogether, if not simply unintelligible utterings. She smiled softly, exiting the room and closing the door quietly. Making sure she had the spare key she finally exited the apartment, making sure to lock the door behind her, and made her way out of the apartment and towards the training room. It wasn't a super busy morning, but there were enough people around to make Charlie feel comfortable, more people meant less likelihood of seeing Jeremy. Her thoughts wavered on Randi and Ghost, how they had turned up out of the blue last night, beaten and badly hurt. She had recalled how fun it had been last night to explore each other's bodies, and yet there had been genuine injuries inflicted on Ghost's body that had been from something more severe than just a "walk home" fight. It was intentional, and seemed like it was more serious than they were making it out to be. She wished they wouldn't be secretive about, having figured out by the end that Jeremy wasn't involved but gaining no more information. She was worried for Randi's safety. She picked up her phone as she walked, sending a quick text to Randi. "If you need anything let me know!" She didn't say anything else, just sending it through so Randi knew it was safe to come to her if there was anything she needed. It didn't take her long to walk to the infirmary, which was on the way to the training room. As she entered she was aware that someone had been in here recently, as certain things were out of place, and there was rubbish in the bins she had previously emptied. She hoped whoever it was had been okay, and thankfully she couldn't see any blood anywhere, so it might only have been something requiring pain killers. She restocked her medical bag, making sure to have extra supplies this time, not wanting another scare like she had with Shayla. It was unlikely, but it was possible. She had known a few initiates to not do well with simulations. Christian usually reacted to the serum, Shay had had her attack, she'd seen panic attacks and full on cardiac arrests from these simulations, but she hoped that nothing like that would happen this time. Finally getting the serums and syringes ready she exited the infirmary and she quickly made her way over to the training room, where she was greeted by Phillip and Honey, with Bloom at the monitor station. Waving happily to Bloom she had a small conversation with Phillip, giving Honey a few pats, then helped explain to Phillip how the machines worked from their perspective, and how to set them up and if in an emergency shut them down. He tried to help her but eventually let her continue alone as he realized he was drastically slowing her down. She just laughed, happily continuing the job herself. Slowly initiates began to trickle in, some obviously having been awake for a while, and others who looked like they were still asleep. She smiled as she finally finished setting all the chairs up and looked around, examining the familiar faces in the room.

Aubrey Stark || 16 || Initiate || Dauntlessborn

The end of the day had gone by rather normally, with Aubrey and Rhysand finishing off their tattoo trip and then Rhysand walking Aubrey back to the dorms before he headed back to his apartment. Aubrey had looked around for any of her friends, mostly for Briony, but noticed that her bed was - as usual - empty, meaning she was back at her house. She rolled her eyes, wishing she had a big fancy home to stay in that was close to the compound. She loved her family house, but it was small and grungey, and was far enough away that Aubrey couldn't be bothered going there in the evenings. As much as she could happily get up early and go for a run to get to training, she disliked having to walk all the way back home in the evening, which is why she didn't. She got in her own bed, noticing the lack of initiates and hoping it wasn't because she had missed a memo about sleeping elsewhere, and after fighting sleep for a half an hour, she fell asleep. It wouldn't be long till she was awake though, sweat dripping off her body and her skin feeling cold as ice while hot as an iron. It took her a few moments to chill out, as her body still tensed from the readiness to jump into action. Blinking a few times, bright blue eyes opening wider and wider each time, she was made aware of the fact that she was still in the dorm. She breathed out shakily and slowly through her mouth, gripping the bed sheets and shaking her head to clear it even further. Her dream had been very similar to the last simulation she'd had with Fable yesterday, but instead of Alice being at the bottom of the chasm, it was Finn, and instead of her already being dead at the bottom, he had been falling. Aubrey had run and tried to catch him, when she had woken up. She groaned softly, as she jumped down from her bunk bed and took a few moments to simply look at Finn's bed. It was untouched, as it had been for the last week. She sat down for a moment, letting her hand run over the blankets and feeling the coldness that inhibited them. Finn... She felt a lump in her throat as she wished him into existence, wished he would be here, wished she could lie down with him here and now on this bunkbed no matter if anyone saw them. It wasn't even that she wouldn't be ashamed or embarrassed, but she wanted him here more than she wanted anything else. Fighting back tears of worry and anxiety, she grabbed a towel and headed into the bathroom to shower. She knew it was early, that some others would likely be frustrated at her for showering so early in the morning, but she didn't really care. They could sleep if they wanted to, but she didn't desire any more sleep or nightmares, she wanted to get on with her day and get it over with. It was the same as every other day and held the same promises as yesterday. Sadness. Making sure to keep her hair out of the water by tying it in a bun, she cleaned her body of the sweat and muck it had gotten from yesterday and the sleep she'd had, and then throwing her clothes into a pile that was labeled the "laundry pile" on the floor of the bathroom, she wrapped the towel around her loosely and came back into the dorms. She would get dressed again rather openly, having no shame about her body and having always been brought up to be fine with it, as she slipped on a white sports bra and mid waist black leggings with running boots on too. As it was still chilly in the morning she donned a black and red plaid on for the moment, though was sure it would eventually get tied around her waist later.

As soon as she was dressed Aubrey was out of the dorms and off. She always started her day with a run, it had always been a good way to get her started, to fill her with good energy, and now... it was a good way to start off the day looking for Finn. Given that was her self-given mission at the moment, she was always wanting to do it whenever she could. Thus she had a long morning run, and was grateful she had woken up so early. Given that it was the morning, and that she did have training, she stayed within the Dauntless compound, but she ran through every single part of it. Her eyes always scanning each area as she jogged or ran through it, her feet steadily hitting the ground and creating a pleasant rhythm in her brain. She had tied her hair into a pony tail, and could hear it swishing behind her as she ran. She was actually grateful for the cool air, as it meant she was quite comfortable, and it felt like she could run forever. She ran up the stairs to the highest points in the compound, and stopped each time, leaning out over each bannister, railing or side to see if there was anything that would give her a hint to where Finn could be. She didn't think he would be in the compound at all, but at this point she had searched so much for him around where they had been when he was taken, or had left, that she was trying anywhere she could think of. Both happily and sadly she felt as she saw that there was no trace of Finn. She was happy, as it meant he wasn't dead in the compound, which is what she would imagine if she thought she'd find him here, but also sad that she hadn't found him, because now he was still lost. Her run continued, and continued, and she even doubled up and went over spots she had already ran this morning to make up for time. She ran past Ghost and Charlie's apartment a couple of times, but saw nothing coming from it, and no sign of a break in, so they were probably safe. She saw more and more people begin to get up as she continued to run, and eventually she realized that she would probably need to get something to eat before she started the day at training. She slowed to a jog, as she made her way to the cafeteria, which would have only just opened at this time. Slowing down to a walk, she first stopped to take a breather, her heart happily racing and her body groaning for food. Feeling adequately warmed by the run she did take her plaid off, tying it around her waist and stretching out her arms. After catching her breath she finally made her way over to the cafeteria cart, which held all the food choices for breakfast in the Dauntless mains, for those who didn't want to pay money to go to fancy restaurants or breakfast places, or were too lazy to make their own. Picking up a plate she filled it with two cold pieces of toast, covering them with some baked beans, then slapped on some bacon and a couple of luke-warm hash browns that were falling apart, grabbing an apple for a snack as well. Lastly she grabbed both a coffee and a big glass of orange juice before heading over to an empty spot and sitting down to enjoy her breakfast. Some might have suggested that the food was terrible, but that was only if they were rich and well off like the Avalon's, or the Parks. For Aubrey this food was fine, good even, and she had always enjoyed it. Of course her moms food was much better, but she wasn't complaining because she was happy to just be able to stuff her face full of whatever she liked.

Halfway through her meal, having almost dazed off into space while eating, she was quickly brought out of her haze as a voice asked if they could sit with her. Glancing up in surprise, Aubrey saw that Thorn stood there with a plate of food, and was motioning to the seat opposite her at the table. Silence stood there for a few seconds as Aubrey processed his words and then quickly responded. "of course! Sorry I dazed off for a moment." She said, feeling foolish for the silence that she had exhibited just then. Thorn sat down, and Aubrey picked up her drink to drink some of the juice and then the coffee, enjoying the taste of both and how they interacted. She felt a little awkward as Thorn sat there eating with her, but at the same time a part of her was glad he was there. Equally comfortable and discomforted, happy and frustrated, awkward and not. They hadn't spoken much if at all in the last week, and honestly Aubrey had been avoiding Thorn out of guilt and sadness. She hadn't wanted to come near him after what had happened with Ghost and Charlie, and then to make matters wose his mom had died and she didn't know what to say to him. She had little memory of her dad, and although she had been sad when he died, that was 10 years ago and she was over it now. She didn't know how to empathise to someone who was currently going through that grief. Well... She thought of Caspian, and remembered how that had felt. That had been like losing an older brother. Maybe she could empathise then... Because that still pained her even to this moment. She often tried to forget that he was dead and gone, because she didn't want to imagine him gone. Feeling like she should say something, she stabbed at her hashbrown pieces with her fork and finally spoke. "I'm sorry about your mom." She said, hardly having the stomach to eat her food now. She looked up, blue eyes gazing at the boy in front of her who she would easily have called friend. "Such a shitty thing to happen to such a good person. Neither you or her deserved that." She said slightly angrily, as she thought of how messed up life was. How Charlie, the most perfect person she could think of, had been abused for 7 years right under Aubrey's nose, and was under constant threat of it happening again. When those like Caspian, whom although Aubrey adored but knew to be a selfish person, had such a good life for such a long time. Sure he had died recently in an unfortunate way, but it had always struck her as so strange. Finishing off the crumbs of her toast and bacon, she let the silence sit there for a little while, not having anything else to say. She wanted to talk, if only to fill the silence that them made room for her mind to talk. "We haven't really spoken since that night... What have you been doing? I've hardly seen you." Aubrey asked, knowing that the likelihood was that Thorn would ask the same of her. She knew what her answer would be. Looking for Finn.

Vex

Mood: Calculating

Location: Barracks

Interactions: Mentions Chris

She arrived back to the barracks late due to her return journey to Erudite for her meeting with Dr. Munro but luckily for Vex getting in late wasn’t anything to blink at in the Dauntless compound. Long after she was in bed she could still hear initiates returning, some loud and some quiet but she didn’t bother to acknowledge them at all. Every few nights she can find herself thinking about her home back in Munro’s lab and how quiet it was there. When she was young she pretended she could hear the gentle hum of the camera that monitored her but in truth the room was rather devoid of noise when she used to lay in bed at night. In her mind, she was able to wander around that room with its blank walls and clutterless floors. Dr. Munro had never encouraged her to find items sentimental but the ones that came from him always were to her. Through her years in that room he brought her little gifts that she kept lined up on the shelf beside her bed. These items were a mirror, a book, a stuffed lion, and a silk flower. While they might come across as trash to anyone else Vex viewed them almost as though they were gifts from a god. Often times she found herself missing them and the comfort that came from looking at them. She hadn’t been permitted to take them with her to Dauntless and so they lay waiting for her back in Erudite. One day when she had done a good enough job she hoped Dr. Munro would allow her to collect them and perhaps gift her with a new one.

Whiskey brown eyes fluttered open as dawn seeped in through the windows and Vex realized that her dreams had once again placed her back in her room in Munro’s lab. Not allowing herself to linger on the thought for long the striking young woman swung her legs over the side of her bed and stood up allowing herself to stretch as she did so. Once again she noted that there was movement among the rest of the barracks as others seemed to rise with the sun and begin readying themselves for the day. Vex felt fresh as a spring daisy due to the tune-up she had received the night before, her mind clear and her senses alert. She hadn’t been in dire need of a tune-up the evening prior but with the testing, the initiates were currently enduring her superiors wanted her at peak performing levels so hopefully, nothing would be left to chance. Grabbing her supplies the coco-skinned beauty made her way swiftly toward the communal bathrooms that the initiates shared and got to work preparing herself for the day. As she brushed her teeth and styled her hair she took note of who joined her in the bathroom and looked flawlessly casual even going as far as to greet those who spoke to her and smile at others, blending in like a professional. With her makeup done soon after that and her eyes adored with black eyeliner and gold eyeshadow Vex got to work getting dressed for the day. Slipping out of her night attire the young woman was soon placing a black and gold cropped tank on her chest with dark denim ripped jeans adorning her legs. A studded black belt was looped through her jeans and overtop of the crop she put her black leather jacket with a cloth hood attached to the back. On her hands she slipped some fingerless biker gloves and a few rings that matched her Osiris necklace. All in all Vex had become a vision in black and gold with her hair even adorned with a few gold rings and jewelry among the braids and dreadlocks.

Once she was fully dressed and ready to go Vex slipped on her black leather biker boots and made her way out of the barracks towards the testing center. She pulled out her phone and looked to see if she had any information or texts that she needed to be concerned about but all was quiet from her superiors and she didn’t see any messages from Chris. Speaking of the Dauntless prince Vex smiled slightly as she remembered the orders she had obtained last night. Dr. Munro wanted her to bring Chris to the lab soon so that they could give him his next dose of treatment as well as begin another treatment process alongside the first. This was a good sign and as Vex had suspected Dr. Munro was more than happy with the results of the mission yesterday. Chris was shaping up to be a loyal and valuable asset that Vex quite enjoyed having in her sandbox to play with.

Ghost had gone his whole life until now believing that he wasn’t interested in sex, but that was an easy misconception to make when he’d never experienced it before. He and Charlie kissed and laughed and kissed again, like the worst kind of fools. The moon rose and set, and they embraced like lovers who had all the time in the world. Heat crackled through Ghost wherever Charlie’s hands grazed, tracing tantalizing trails up his spine, along the ridges of his ribs, up the hunches of his shoulder blades. Desire hit him like a shot of vodka, running down into his middle and kindling a flame there. He fumbled in the dark, exploring with his lips until they found Charlie’s. She tasted like honeyed tea and sunlight. Ghost cupped her face in one hand, tilting it this way and that whenever he wanted to test a new, exciting angle from which to kiss her, and when the strain in his body grew too great, he slung an arm around Charlie’s waist and levered her atop himself. Her mouth danced in electric circles around his throat, and Ghost arced his back so that he bent like a bow over the mattress, unable and uncaring to stifle a soft series of whimpers. He thrust his hips toward Charlie’s in a motion that perhaps should have felt unfamiliar but, to his surprise, came instinctually, blood pounding so loudly in his ears that—
Ghost awoke to the merry jangling of piano notes from the preset alarm on his phone. The time 7:39 blinked up at him in innocent green numbers as the last wisps of dream fled his mind. Dampness pressed against his cheek, and he blearily lifted his head to regard a puddle of drool darkening his pillowcase, his mind sifting fact from fiction. Disappointment tasted like a bitter tang on his tongue. He and Charlie hadn’t done anything adventurous or daring last night—at least, not too much more than their usual. And yet Ghost wondered if he hadn’t stopped whether they would have. But at one point during which their mostly undressed bodies had been pressed up against one another, Charlie had gone motionless beneath him. She’d stopped reciprocating Ghost’s passion, and her body had gone as rigid as a corpse in rigor mortis, each tendon standing out in stark relief against their thin films of skin. He could tell from the hitch in her breathing that something was wrong. Yet she hadn’t spoken a word against any of his advances. Puzzled frustration had blazed through Ghost as he continued kissing her bare shoulder, her stomach. And then an image of Caspian had slammed into him like a freight train.
Knowing that Charlie suffered from many symptoms of anxiety and past trauma, Ghost had stilled beneath a wave of resignation, so that the only sound permeating the cluttered bedroom was Charlie’s ragged breathing. It sounded like that of a racehorse that had been pushed too hard, too fast, its heart on the verge of exploding. Ghost’s mood quickly soured into something akin to betrayal. Hoping that the darkness obscured his expression, he clambered off of Charlie and sprawled as far away from her as the twin mattress would allow. If he lay in a straight line at the edge of the bed, he managed to avoid his shoulder brushing Charlie’s, his heart slamming around in his chest as if it might break through skin and bone. “I’m sorry,” he whispered into the darkness. The apology was torn from him on fishhooks.
Ghost knew he had no right to expect entitlement to Charlie’s body, even if they were dating. He also knew that she might never be ready, yet he was surprised to find that the fact didn’t disappoint him as much as he thought it would. But what did bother him was that Charlie had refused to speak up for herself. That, had he not read her wordless cues to stop, he might have become her next Caspian. That there was half a chance Ghost might have become another thing that haunted Charlie in the dark. No other words passed the curtain of darkness that stretched between them. No other thoughts trickled through the crevices of Ghost’s mind beside the certain knowledge that, had Charlie been willing, he absolutely would have given her that which he’d given no one else before.
Eventually, Charlie’s uneven breaths steadied into the slow, rhythmic cadence of sleep. Ghost lay wide awake in the darkness, beside her but turned away from her, eyes open and unseeing. Had Randi not been sleeping on the couch in the living room, he would have gone to engross himself in a video game or mindless television show, anything to distract from the devastation that had been done to his self-esteem. Or maybe he would have stamped through the living room and blown through the door for a late-night visit to the nearest bar. But he did neither of the two, and just like death, sleep finally crept upon him, inevitable yet unexpected.

* * *

Ghost hadn’t remembered that there was a reason—or lack of one—to turn off his alarm for the next morning, now that he no longer had a job. It wasn’t until he was in the shower that he recollected this fact, clouds of steam billowing up around him, vision mussed from the droplets snagged on his eyelashes. At this point, all he had left to do was dress and possibly shave, and then he’d be ready to go about his normal day, if that even existed anymore. “Well, fuck,” Ghost muttered to himself, his voice jouncing off the walls of the shower and producing a resonant hum. Not only had he been romantically spurned last night, but now he was a jobless loser with all the time in the world to piss away. At least Charlie had already left the apartment to set up the infirmary by the time he’d awoken, so he wouldn’t have to deal with her accusatory gaze and too-quiet voice unless he wanted to.
The overwhelming force of the urge to cry quite literally ripped the breath from his chest. Ghost clutched the toothpaste-stained sink to stay upright. Choking like he’d just taken a punch to the throat, he regarded the sallow blur of his reflection in the fogged mirror, his eyes denoted by the violet rings beneath them, cheekbones sharp enough to cut a finger on framing a narrow nose. A black glass boy of deadly edges, and his glass had cracked.
Maybe he’d been wrong to put any blame on Charlie. Maybe what he felt for her wasn’t love at all but a symptom of self-sabotage. He’d felt it for Blair, once, and for Leah before her, in what felt like a lifetime ago. Ghost developed twisted thoughts of other people in an effort to hide the fact from himself that he was, always and evermore, alone. He’d been the only living thing the investigators had found in his parents’ ransacked home after their brutal massacre. Before then, the halo of his father’s affluence had crafted a barrier of thorns around Ghost, rendering him untouchable from the other schoolchildren. And afterward, the only friendships he’d had when running the cold Chicago streets were with other delinquent children, boys he’d banded together with to rob a gas store or break into an unoccupied house. He’d learned to take his split and skedaddle from the scene of the crime quickly, not because of a fear of getting caught by cops, but before his accomplices could beat his share of the loot out of him and take it for themselves.
All his life, in one way or another, a genuine human connection had eluded him, and he had no idea how to initiate one with Charlie now, let alone maintain it for any duration of time.
Ghost’s mood was bitterest, blackest coffee, his mouth tasting of Charlie’s unreturned kisses. He knew better than to medicate while in such a self-loathing fury. So he threw on a plain sweater the color of purple heather, some slim-fit checkered pants, and a pair of burgundy ankle boots, and decided now was as good a time as ever to clear his stuff out of his now unoccupied office at the initiates’ testing center. Doing it now was the strategic decision, because while he technically was no longer allowed to oversee the initiates’ training, it gave him a legitimate excuse to be present anyway. Which was important because he wanted to ensure that Bloom had everything under control, and if she needed any help, that he was there to lend it. That, and Ghost was willing to do anything to avoid being alone right now, even freely interacting with people whom he usually got paid to tolerate.
So he felt ambushed when he saw Briony Avalon waiting expectantly outside his office, rimed in the fluorescent ceiling lights like a vision in the old stories, one hand braced against the wall as if she’d been standing there for a while and the wait was starting to take a toll on her feet.
Ghost had felt so accomplished, too: He’d slipped into the testing center quiet and wraithlike, head down and shoulders angled at the ground, fortunately managing to evade Bloom’s gaze because he didn’t feel like talking yet. Which wasn’t hard when her back was to him, her posture prim and princess-y and her gaze riveted on a curly-haired boy whom Ghost didn’t recognize, but whom Bloom was clearly enamored with. Charlie was nowhere in sight, which likely meant that she was still setting up the infirmary, or she was sequestered in the sanitation unit, prepping the needles and serums. The only soul whom Ghost had made eye contact with was Anika Vex, sitting by herself in one of the waiting room’s blue foldable chairs. Instead of looking away, Ghost locked gazes with her, the memory of her stealing a kiss from him in a curtained-off club room painted vividly in his mind. He stared Anika down, silently daring her to approach him or say something that would give his covert presence away. She didn’t, but one of the corners of her mouth pulled up in a wry, almost imperceptible motion, as if she’d thought of a joke. Despite his show of bravado, Ghost scurried across the floor a little faster to the row of offices tucked in a back corner.
But seeing Briony waiting for him, perking up at his arrival like a flower shoved into sunlight, made Ghost’s hard work all for naught. Conversely, Ghost’s face shuttered into expressionlessness, and he bit back the various barbs jockeying on his tongue. Just see what she wants, cried a small voice in the back of his head. Maybe it was reason. Or his conscience, if he even had one of those. But probably a demon eager to inflict more suffering on him. So Ghost planted his feet, took his freshly-bought vape out of his pocket, a little green and orange gem called Crispy Donuts, and silently hit it while he waited for Briony to make the first move. Despite himself, he was just the slightest bit curious to see what kind of move it would be. He could count the number of abbreviated conversations he’d had with this girl over the course of initiation on one hand. What might she have to say to him? Unless… it was about… Blair.
Oh, hell, Ghost thought, panic coursing through him in the beat between Briony opening her mouth and the time she started speaking. Briony’s eyes were as hard and blank as an ice field, ridiculously incongruent with the way she beamed at him. Her hips did saucy, graceful undulations as she sauntered three steps toward him. Her approach was necessary to hear her hushed, husky words, and after Anika had pawed at him a few days ago, Ghost was unfortunately conditioned enough to recognize the signs when a female was about to make a move on him. Unfortunately because, until yesterday, Briony had been one of his students.
Briony wasn’t one to beat around the bush. At the words open game Ghost’s eyebrows shot so far up his forehead that he coughed on the vaporous cloud of nicotine he’d just inhaled. Well, now I know how Charlie feels when she talks about some men looking at her like she’s just a piece of ass, Ghost thought cynically. Still, despite having minimal experience with romance, he wasn’t oblivious to the way some of the girls in the Dauntless compound looked at him ever since initiation. That’s what happened after you made quips at the meanest bully’s expense and pickpocketed him for the hell of it. When he and his friends had beaten Ghost bloody during the Phase One fights but Ghost had gone on to surpass every one of them in the fear simulations, waltzing out of the testing center every day with a superior smile. In conversation once, Charlie had described it as Ghost’s bad boy appeal, which had made him roll his eyes. She’d laughed when he claimed that it was all in the past.
The thought of Charlie, after last night and what could have happened but didn’t, made Ghost internally wince. The fact that Ghost was sober for the first morning in a week made him short of patience. Blunter. Colder. Like he used to be, back when his life was skulking through drunken crowds and snatching watches, necklaces, glossy credit cards, anything that might earn him a pretty penny when fenced. “I’m not anything to you anymore, Briony,” he responded flatly, the words escaping his mouth in a silvery puff. “When I worked here, it was to do my job and make money and leave. I didn’t go out with initiates.” Liar, whispered a critical voice. You went out with Blair plenty and did shit that would make most people’s heads spin. “But I don’t work here anymore, so as far as I’m concerned, you and I are strangers unless you want some guidance on how you can become a more competitive initiate.” There was a deadly pause as Briony’s expression went blank, as if she were at a loss of words. Or figuring out what the best change of tack would be.
Clearly it was the latter, because Briony was like a snake that had slipped from one skin into another. She bobbed her head in enthusiastic frenzy and assured Ghost that was exactly what she meant, and she’d be so grateful for his help. She even clasped her hands together in front of her, as if Ghost were a genie here to make all her wishes come true. Before he could think of a response to Briony’s newest antic, she was shoving a ripped-off strand of paper at him with an address for where they could do their tutoring. His lips parted in confusion, Ghost turned halfway around, quizzically staring after Briony as she strode away, but not daring to say anything that might call her back. He eyed the mutilated paper in his hand, crisply folded it between two fingers, and tucked it in a side pocket, mostly because the alternative was littering. As he did, his hand brushed against his office keys, and he remembered the reason he’d come to training today. “Let’s make this a quick trip,” Ghost muttered to himself as he busied himself finding the correct key, “because it’s barely nine o’clock and dear god do I need a drink.”

Randi

Mood: Troubled

Location: Ghost's Apartment / Streets

Interactions: Mentions Charlie and Ghost

Sleep was not a friend to Randi as she lay on the couch of Ghost and Charlie’s apartment with the light of the street lamps flooding in through the window like dull beams of sunlight. No matter what she did the blonde could not manage to find a sense of peace enough to drift off which was probably for the best due to the fact that she was likely concussed. No matter how soft or fluffy the pillow under her mane of blonde hair was it still felt like a cinderblock beneath her skull. Any other night and Randi was certain she would have slept like a baby, especially with how nurturing Charlie was when it came to setting up the couch. Most couches Randi slept on were just that, a couch, but Charlie was kind and cared about her enough to put actual blankets and sheets and even a nice pillow on the piece of furniture for her. It was a kind gesture that Randi wasn’t soon to forget and hoped to pay back in full with interest as soon as she could. But still, despite Charlie’s best efforts Randi’s brain would not stop drawing her back to the same gut-wrenching and heartbreaking thoughts she had become intensely aware of in the last twenty-four hours. There was no way she would be getting any form of restful sleep with the knowledge she now had, even if she wanted to. Images of Freight smiling at her, teaching her to ride a bike, squaring up with her principal when she was in trouble, and making her a birthday cake, were all tainted now by the truth behind them. She had always seen Freight more than her uncle, she saw him as a father and now she saw him as a snake simply waiting to strike. He had been a part of so many happy memories that were now poison in her mind, he had lied to her for years and made her believe the fire that took her parents was an accident. He caused the fire, he killed her parents, he lied to her about it and it felt like her heart was being clawed apart within her. She would have jumped into fire for him because he was family but in truth, he was the reason she didn’t have her family and nothing would ever make up for that.

Freight wasn’t the only issue plaguing the blonde’s thoughts as she lay watching the ceiling of the apartment and a cobweb that danced in the corner. The words uttered by Ghost after leaving her home still echoed through her mind and Randi blinked as she took it all in again. She might be Divergent. That was a deadly thing, even if it was simply suspected and never proven. Randi wasn’t someone who feared death, she never really had been, but she did fear what might happen to her in the time leading up to her death. Growing up she had heard countless horror stories about people disappearing because they were divergent. Every kid had their own theory about what happened in these scary stories but they all had one common theme, nothing good. Randi knew that she would need to tread carefully from this point forward, to control herself, especially in the testing simulations. She couldn’t afford for others to see her manipulate them the way she had when she fought against Ghost. This was perhaps the worst time for her to suddenly discover she was divergent because if she did go missing who would notice and who would care? Freight might but she couldn’t be certain since she did not have strong evidence connecting him to several arson-related murders. Perhaps her uncle would feel some sort of twisted relief if she went missing. Ghost? Again another possibility but she couldn’t be certain when it came to him. Ghost had had her back thus far but if she just up and disappeared he might come to reason that he should cut his losses and focus on those still with him. Randi wouldn’t blame him for doing so. Poppy, Philip, Blair, Chris, all of them had something going on in their lives, all of them were used to Randi going MIA for a few days on some sort of party bender. “I’m fucked if I mess this up.” She sighed to herself softly and felt her legs itching to move as though they couldn’t bare to stay in one place a moment longer.

The pale dawn light was beginning to make itself visible as Randi stood up and quietly slinked over to the window, her steps soft and soundless like a cat. Looking outside Ranid suddenly felt as though she was being suffocated and just needed to get somewhere that she could breathe. Like a wraith, the blonde turned and gathered her things from around the living area of Ghost and Charlie’s apartment. Making sure to give Darcy a quick stroke or two between gathering her times the young platinum-haired woman was soon sneaking out of the apartment, closing the door behind her as quietly as the squeaky handle would allow. Once she was in the hall of the building Randi took off silently down a few doorways until she reached the stairwell. Jumping a few steps here and there Randi flew down the stairwell and shoved the door to the outside world open, the cool morning mist hitting her face and she took a deep breath. Without really thinking of where she might go next Randi began making her way down the street, glad to be moving once again. After a few minutes of walking Randi found herself recognizing the streets that surrounded the Chasm. Her phone vibrated in her pocket and briefly the blonde looked at the message from Charlie, a small and grateful smile forming on her lips as she did so. Not wanting to come off as rude Randi typed back a quick thanks and added a smiley face at the end to try and make sure Charlie believed things were fine on her end. She didn’t want the kindhearted medic worrying about her when there was nothing she could do to make the situation, or rather situations, better. But Randi did appreciate the gesture of kindness from Charlie.

As she made her way down the side streets she wasn't expecting to find Rhys running towards her and paused in slight confusion as he drew closer. When he stopped the two of them began conversing and when the subject of what happened to her was brought up Randi did her best to swiftly avoid it. She didn't want to lie about what happened but she also didn't want to go down the horrible path of admitting it either so instead she just changed topics all together. Rhys didn't seem all too thrilled with her decision not to give a real answer but nonetheless, he seemed to accept that she wasn't interested in talking and moved on in the conversation, something Randi found herself immensely grateful for. Rhys was someone she had been close with in the past, very close with, but over the past several years they had truly grown apart. It was good, refreshing even, to hear his voice again as they discussed what had happened during the test the day before and how Shayla collapsed. Randi had no idea what she would have done in his situation but from what she saw Rhys seemed to handle the emergency well. She was glad to hear Aubrey was there for him afterward, part of her wished she could have been as well but then again she had her own issues to deal with. "Yeah that sounds like a blast." The blonde agreed with a small smile as he mentioned a place that served dessert drinks. "You know I have a wicked sweet tooth." She reminded him playfully as they began walking towards the testing center together. "So are you ready for round two today? Hopefully, it is less eventful for you than yesterday was." She asked with a surprisingly gentle tone.

Chris and mentions of Phillip Nerdy. Nerdy.

Briony had hated seeing Chris’s smile turn into a frown when she had gone to him with a frown on her own face. She could almost see the worry coming off of him then the hint of anger that was almost always under the surface with him. Though she knew it wasn’t directed at her but more likely himself probably believing it was his fault Blair was missing. Now Briony knew that wasn’t true because even if she was that mad Blair would never stay away this long without some kind of contact. Then his voice was filled with a hint of firmness and pain as he told her to keep him informed that he didn’t want to see harm come to her. Her gaze watching him seeing the sincerity and hearing the rawness of its truth in his voice. Then she watched his eyes taking her in as she playfully flirted a little to break the tension. A warmth had filled her knowing that he was seeing her for her and not Blair as they might look similar but were both different. Then they had enjoyed their time together at the restaurant before separating briefly when at the center. It wasn’t surprising when Ghost had seen through her a bit however she had swiftly changed tactics. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for those she cared about so if she had to use all her tricks she would. Briony remember why she had never tried anything with Ghost before he was so infuriating the way he talked and acted. She had a feeling this was gonna be a lot harder of a task than she first thought. However she didn’t want to just straight up ask him about Blair it could scare him off if he really had done something to her. His attitude was colder than usual though which was unfortunate for her as it also irritated her which she kept hidden easily masking it as they continued their back and forth. It was almost like a game of chest with words alone how he was purposefully trying to keep her at a distance. So with a swift change one that would leave most people’s heads reeling she went with the suggestion of just wanting his help to further her score into a higher bracket. Her head nodding enthusiastically before she clasps her hands in front of her looking as if Ghost held all the answers to what she needed. Then not wanting to chat with him any longer also having heard Chris calling which she was more inclined to join him anyway so the paper had been slipped to Ghost swiftly. She had only gazed back long enough to see him thankfully keep it before joining Chris.

“What’s up?” Briony asked him grinning then seeing him looking frustrated had her biting her lip worried. The words that followed made her feel sick Blair still wasn’t here there wasn’t any time either for her to come in. If she was late she wouldn’t be allowed to join them so if she wasn’t here now it meant she more then likely wasn’t going to be there at all. “Damn it what is she thinking! You’re right if she keeps this shit up she won’t be able to make it in.” She said as their eyes met both filled with the same concern for Blair. This would lead to Blair being faction-less if she really stopped coming altogether or if she missed any more. She really had no idea what was going on with Blair lately there didn’t seem to be any reason for her actions none she knew of at least. However she would get more answers soon to the questions swirling around in her mind about her missing twin. So when Chris suggested meeting up after training to look for her either together or separately she nodded. “I have something right after training so I’ll meet up with you later tonight. I’m hoping that one of us will have heard from her by then or seen her at the very least. Also good we need all the help we can get it’s not like Blair to stay gone this long without some sort of note or something.” She murmured to him worry clear on her face. A smile soon spread across her face hearing him mention about getting a new phone if he couldn’t find his old one. She couldn’t help but feel relieved and a little thrilled knowing he was mainly getting one because of her though more amused then anything since Chris knew her well enough. That if he didn’t get one soon she would buy him one or she would pester him until her did. Then she brought up the topic of todays testing with him wondering out-loud to her how it would be. “I’m not sure though it probably will be one of ours I feel like that makes more sense then using a trainers fears. If it’s our own it complicates things a bit more doesn’t it.”she said her gaze also scanning all those within. It seemed most if not everyone had arrived already other then a select few.

Briony thought for a moment. “You know one of my fears I wouldn’t put it past them to use my fear of dogs against me today.” She murmured. Since Chris, Phillip, and a select few others knew of her deep fear of dogs due to the accident as a child. It also didn’t help that Honey was also running about freely today even if she adored Honey the fear kept her from truly being able to play with the lovable dog. When Honey had began approaching them at first having been excited due to having not seen Briony in awhile she was very thankful for Chris stepping between them. Then Phillip calling Honey back over having seen Honey’s path towards her their eyes meeting briefly before returning to their current conversation partners. “Thank you I’m already jittery enough without having my heart racing before the testing even begins.” She said thanking him. She watched him shake his head telling her it wasn’t a problem that any time she needed help with Honey to not hesitate to ask he would always step in. “So what fear do you think they’ll use for you if it’s our own?” She asked him curiously. He seemed hesitant which wasn’t surprising it’s not like people of dauntless enjoyed revealing their fears to one another. So when he still seemed to hesitate she continued for the moment. “I have one fear that I hope it isn’t used.” She said quietly a small lump forming in her throat. The thought of it being used against her made her feel ill so when Chris looked at her curious about what could cause such a reaction she had to look away as she spoke. “I have the fear of being alone.” She said softly when Chris raised an eyebrow because he knew Briony had been alone before she shook her head some. “I mean truly alone that I won’t have Blair, Aubrey, or you anymore.” She said voice straining with emotion. It was hard for her to admit this to anyone it seemed like such a lame fear. She felt the prickles of tears trying to form and angrily wiped her eyes she was just more emotion then usual due to Blair missing which she didn’t like.

(Also here is what she is wearing for training today. Gonna do outfits for Aya and Rhys as well!)

Aya.

Aya had watched the look of guilt upon both Cas and Griffons faces as they saw her enter the infirmary in search of them. “It’s really ok.”she said softly just glad the two of them seemed safe. Once the apologies and explanations about why they hadn’t returned were finished their conversation had turned a bit more serious. That was because Aya had asked something in which she knew would probably be difficult for the other two however the concern for her friends outweighed the guilt of asking. She could see how uncomfortable they were so as the minutes ticked by though they finally seemed resolved in telling her the answer. A thought of them lying ran through her mind for a moment knowing Cas didn’t really like revealing things about her past. In all honesty Aya couldn’t blame her not one bit considering Aya knew some bits and pieces not enough to know anything well enough though. So when Cas started she listened intently reaching out to give Cas’s hand a light squeeze when her voice had shaken for a moment the other female lost momentarily in dark memories. She had nodded after knowing that bit about what had happened so she understood why Cas felt upset then her gaze flicked to Griffon hearing about the surgeries then Griffon himself murmured about not really remembering anything like Cas had said. However the flicker of emotion in Griffons eyes lead her to believe the male knew a bit more then he was letting on though he was being quiet for his sisters sake. Aya didn’t push it not now at least so when Cas jumped up ready to head out she easily got up as well. A suggestion of getting food left her which was quickly agreed upon by the others however Cas and Griffon wanted to clean up first. “Of course we have time anyway so let’s go.” She said smiling as they all headed out together going back to where their clothing and showers were located. She waved lightly to Griffon as he grabbed his clothing then headed off to shower leaving her alone with Cas once Cas had also finished dressing.

They sat quietly for a moment before the buzzing of a phone cut the air. Cas had grabbed it quickly seeing it was Able. “Oh a cappuccino and a plain croissant sounds good.” She said as Cas texted their requests to Fable who offered to get them food. She smiled leaning into Cas as they sent a selfie along side their orders before returning to their normal sitting positions. Once the message was sent Aya asked once more about the scars knowing it might be easier to ask them separately. “So is what you told me really the truth?” She asked letting her gaze meet Cas’s. Her gaze was warm there wasn’t judgement in her gaze only concern and curiosity about her friends words. So when Cas said parts of it looking apologetically about lying Aya shook her head some. “It’s a personal question so you have every right to answer it how you want.” She said softly to her friend. Then Cas explained why she had lied some how the memories were painful so she didn’t want to relive them and honestly Aya could respect that. A slight frown forming when she mentioned being a little envious of Griffon who couldn’t remember everything from the past. However there were certainly things she herself wished would disappear from memory so the statement of being envious seemed rational. The next moments however were surprising she had looked over to see the familiar look in Cas’s she’s. It was something she had seen often the look that held more than friendship yet was also tamed down enough. A slight flickering of thrill ran through her as well as guilt as Griffon entered her mind. There was no denying Cas was beautiful plus the dance between friends and lovers had always been blurred between the two of them. Neither of them ever quite crossing the line fully just blurring it enough to leave them both playing a dangerous game. So when Cas’s words came out softy about Griffon liking her Aya knew what Cas was doing putting an end to their game. Even if it would hurt them both a bit there was no denying that at some point something like this would have had to happen. Aya knew Cas wasn’t one for commitment and Aya was so better to end things now before either of them were hurt. Plus with the feelings that Aya was growing towards Griffon she couldn’t find herself fighting for Cas to change her mind even if the pain of losing the fun connection to Cas felt like grabbing a hot iron. She knew Cas would still always be part of her life the next words confirming it. Cas loved her enough to let her go with someone who would truly be better for her. A smile flickering across her face as Cas told her to give Griffon a chance the feelings flickering in her mind now that the possibility of a relationship with Griffon was there.

However the next few moments had Griffon coming out of the bathroom dressed yet looking a little upset. He began signing to Cas who informed Aya of what was happening his hearing aid batteries had died. “Oh that’s not good. Well if Fable has them we better head out now so we can get them and not leave her waiting long.” She said smiling. She had turned when saying this so Griffon could read her lips knowing he probably wouldn’t understand her otherwise. It didn’t take long for them all to finish grabbing what was needed then heading out to meet up with Fable. “I’m wondering what todays training will be like. I wonder if we will have another fear of Charlie’s or not.” She said talking with Cas as Griffon seemed to be hanging back a little. She felt bad that he couldn’t really join in their conversation at least not yet. So she just chatted with Cas about normal things the two usually talked about anyway as they headed down the street. It wasn’t long before they headed into the pastry shop meeting Fable who thankfully had all their orders ready before Fable could protest money had been slipped to her. Griffon seemed to quickly take Fable’s attention wanting to see if she had the batteries while Cas and herself took drinks of their orders enjoying the beverages.

Location: Coffee Shop

Interactions: Griffon, Cas, Aya

Having received the small groups orders through text Fable was able to find a four-seater corner table in the back of the coffee shop where she hunkered down and waited for Aya, Cas, and Griffon to show up. She sipped her blueberry coffee and picking at a chocolate croissant she ordered for herself the fiery-haired female kept an eye out for the arrival of her fellow initiates as she scrolled through her phone. Checking her messages and removing any junk she paused as she saw the text channel she had with Chris. According to the time stamp on the messages, it had been a few days since the two of them last spoke and a feeling of guilt pooled in her stomach as she realized that she probably should try to make more of an effort after everything that happened yesterday. She knew, like all the initiates, that Chris had broken up with Blair but unlike most others Fable actually had an inkling as to why. A flash of the rage she had seen on Chris’s face broke into her mind and she recognized a bit of that rage in herself. Fable had accepted long ago that no matter how badly humans wanted to believe they were above animals that when certain emotions were triggered the response of many humans was often primal. That is how it had seemed for Chris, that is how it had been for her. Chris’s rage was something he hadn’t been able to control and Fable wasn’t going to judge him for that. After all, she threatened her own mother's life with a pair of scissors when she was pushed too far. It certainly wasn’t the same but she still refused to hold Chris’s actions against him, something she and Blair had in common.

Fable was pulled from her thoughts by the ring of the coffee shop door opening. Her mismatched gaze flashed over to the source of the noise and she spotted Griffon, Cas, and Aya entering the shop. Waving them over to their little corner table Fable smiled and met Griffon’s bear hug with one that was full of equal love. She noticed he was wearing the grey vest that was embroidered with colorful flowers and smiled. That vest was one of her favorite finds at the random street market that popped up twice a month near their path home from school. The moment they saw it Fable knew it was made for Griffon and luckily he had agreed. They got into all seven hells of trouble when they got home and their parents saw it but most of the heat fell on Fable since her parents believed it was her duty to look after Griffon. Fable happily took the brunt of the punishment because she didn’t want Griffon to believe he was undeserving of nice things when he did so much to help others. Despite all she went through for it the sight of the vest only filled Fable with warmth, love, and happiness. It was something that was so beautifully Griffon that she had never allowed any other person to sour it for her and she never would.

As they pulled away from the warm sibling embrace Griffon began signing to her and Fable watched his movements so she could understand what was so important. ‘Yes, I have your spare batteries in my bag. Did you bring the others for me to charge?’ She signed back as she reached over to the back of her chair and pulled her bag off the edge of it. Digging around in the small pouch that had a surprisingly spacious interior Fable soon felt the cold metal batteries rolling around and snatched them up. ‘Here. Sorry I wasn’t there with them earlier.’ The redhead signed and offered her brother the batteries so he could swap them out for the ones in his hearing aids. She was rather grateful that they were able to address this before training began for the day because if they didn’t they might not have had time during. She would have felt awful if Griffon had to test while unable to hear. While Griffon swapped out the batteries Fable turned to Cas and Aya and motioned to the table. “I hope this little alcove works, I thought it was cozy for a quick breakfast.” She smiled and noticed Aya slipping her some cash. It was very kind that both Aya and Cas insisted on paying her back. Fable was still getting used to doing stuff and expecting something in return so the fact that both girls insisted was a good reminder for her. “How are you all feeling this morning? Are the new tattoos healing well?” She inquired knowing hers had stung for a bit last night but soothed as she put ointment on it.

While the small group chatted and ate their breakfast Fable occasionally glanced at her phone. A little voice in the back of her head was nagging her over and over again. Finally, she subtly picked up her phone and swiped her way to the text screen with Chris. ‘Hey, stranger. I picked up coffee for a few of the others, do you want anything?’ She messaged him and hoped that it didn’t seem too out of the blue or forced.

Bloom

Mood: Delighted

Location: Cin-Aholics, Testing Center

Interactions: Phillip, Honey, Charlie

Seeing Phillip’s text as she was locking her apartment door Bloom chuckled and rolled her eyes. Classic Phillip. She thought and her smile was accompanied by the spreading of a light blush across her cheeks as she realized how much she truly loved this childish side of him. Texts like these were something he had done for as long as Bloom had known him. It certainly caused her to quicken her step and make it down to the street outside her building a bit faster than she originally intended but she knew the Parks boy well enough to know he didn’t truly mean the payment part of the bill. What truly caused Bloom to hurry though was the idea that he would get to Cin-Aholica, order, and pay for everything before she even arrived. Bloom hated when she didn’t contribute to a bill and Phillip always had a habit of sneaking the entire bill away and covering it before she noticed. It was a genuinely sweet thing for him to do but Bloom was from a different walk of life and liked to feel that she was able to take care of herself and even treat her friends from time to time. She would never actually be mad at Phillip though over the kind gesture because honestly it showed her that he cared for those around him which was something that meant a lot to her. Some people existed in this world in order to see what they could take from it but Phillip was a giver and Bloom had recognized years ago that giving gifts was his way of showing he cared. She would never be upset with him for something like that. Besides, every once in a while she would become a super secret agent and managed to slip past him to the bill first, the look on his face when that happened always left her with a cheeky grin.

Just as she had suspected when she left her apartment Phillip and Honey were already seated with food likely already ordered by the time she arrived. She let out a playful huff of defeat and threw Phillip a smile as she rolled her eyes jokingly. Before she even reached the table Honey was bolting up to her, the beautiful canine’s tail wagging so rapidly that Bloom thought it looked as though she might lift off the ground. “Hi sweet Honeybee!” She greeted and rubbed Honey’s ears as Honey jumped up to greet her. “Do you want a treat? Is that what you want? Okay! Yummy pumpkin treats for the best Honey Girl!” Bloom gushed and reached into her pocket to pull out a treat she had tucked away for the sweet canine. “Hey I think we all know that it was Honey who stole my heart here.” Bloom chuckled in response to Phillip before raising her eyebrow to the idea of her in his room. Just as she was taking a seat across from Phillip the waiter came bustling over with their food. The sweet, warm, gooey pastries smelled divine and instantly had Bloom’s mouth watering. The comment about Bloom and marshmallows earned Phillip a laugh and when she tasted the smores hot coco Bloom audibly moaned. “Oh my god! Sorry! That was just some of the best hot chocolate I have ever tasted! You should try some! It is super silky, rich, and smooth…just like you.” She offered with a chuckle, clearly very proud of herself.

Soon enough and a bit too quickly the duo had finished their food and enjoyed playful banter and jokes as they did so. Cleaning up their table a bit and grabbing her bag Bloom looked over to see that Phillip and Honey were ready to go and thus they began their journey towards the training center. As they left Bloom began to explain to Phillip what would be happening during the days testing as well as what they had been doing. When he began suggesting combining the initiates fears Bloom nodded as she considered the idea. “That could be interesting.” She thought aloud. “It would certainly put them in an interesting situation and have them dealing with situations that would truly put them to the test.” She continued and thought about the system and how she would go about doing it. “I also want to show them the ranking thus far.” She added after thinking about if for a moment. “It is about time that they see where they have settled thus far…it seems only fair to give them a chance to know if they are doing well or if they need to improve.” Bloom’s voice softened as she spoke the last part. For a brief moment the image of Delilah flashed in her mind and she resisted wincing. If Delilah had just been made a bit more aware of how she was fairing during initiation perhaps she could have improved…maybe she would still be alive today. Bloom pushed the thought away almost as quickly as it came and reminded herself that every initiation was different and theirs had made them fly blind but she didn’t need to have these initiates go through the same thing.

Hearing Phillip’s question about Ghost, Bloom nodded her head. “I imagine he would be.” She informed her friend as they grew closer to the training center. “He still has to clear out his office area…plus he might want to check up on some of the initiates. He has grown rather close to a few of them.” Bloom resisted saying anything more because she didn’t want to risk saying anything she shouldn’t. As they entered the training center Bloom was quick to try and get things ready for the day, showing Phillip the ropes and making sure he knew how to use the computer system for the simulations and testing. She instructed him on how to properly inject the syringe and while they were talking and flirting Charlie entered. Bloom was delighted to see her best friend looking far more chipper and vibrant than she had been in a long time. Something had happened and it had clearly been something good because Charlie was all smiles and sunshine which Bloom thought made her look radiant. For a few minuted Phillip went off with Charlie to look at the syringes again which Charlie was now finishing up with and when he came back Bloom noted that he looked almost giddy with curiosity. “She does and I am so happy to see that smile on her face.” Bloom agreed and glanced back over towards Charlie before settling her gaze back on Phillip. Instantly the handsome young man began digging for the reason behind the medic’s change of mood and Bloom smiled and shook her head. “Nope, sorry, can’t say.” She smirked. “Girl code and all.” She added. She had a very good guess as to why Charlie was smiling so much but Bloom would never betray Charlie’s trust by turning her personal life into gossip and she knew Phillip would respect that even if he was dying to know the truth.

Cassidy "Cas" Wickham || 16 || Initiate || Erudite Transfer

Cassidy enjoyed her morning tea and happily listened as people conversed and had a good time meeting up over breakfast. She didn't talk too much, not because she had nothing to say but because she wanted to give room for everyone else. She liked listening more than talking, and often liked to gather information whenever possible. That information could be things that people were saying, or it could be their current moods, interests or tones of voice. She also was mentally telling herself to get over the fact she had just told Cas to drop all possibilities of anything more than friendship with her. As much as she believed she had done a good and right thing, she had this small part of her that wished she hadn't. She was an inherently selfish person by nature, and unlike Griffon she did not put others above herself like he did. But she loved Aya and had enjoyed being her friend and growing up with her during her years in Erudite, and she loved Griffon more than she loved anyone else. She knew Griffon liked Aya a lot. It was unmistakable every time they were together, and as she caught eyes with Fable when Aya and Griffon were talking together or stumbling over words or any one of them blushed, they always had a knowing smile. Yes, it was the right thing to do, and it trumped her own personal feelings. She had many other people to play with, Aya was too important to hurt like that. She knew she wouldn't hurt Randi, thus she played with her quite flippantly, and she knew the others she played with were minor characters in a story. After mentally climbing over her regret at letting Aya go, she shrugged it off by joining it a bit more with the conversation. As Fable asked how the tattoos were healing, Cas was reminded of the pain in her shoulder. It wasn't that she had forgotten about it, but if she wasn't thinking about the tattoo or shoulder at all, the pain was a background throb, but mentioning it made her think of it, and thus the pain enlarged and Cas winced at the very mention of it. Turning her wince into a shrug she showed her shoulder to Fable and Aya, as she had worn a shoulderless shirt for this very reason. "It's quite uncomfortable but it's a lot better compared to yesterday." She commented, moving it around so they could see it properly. Yesterday they hadn't got a chance to, as Cas had basically zoned out as soon as the thing had been done. But now that she was conscious and able to show them, she enjoyed as they complimented it. "I know it looks a bit swollen and red at the moment, but I'm convinced it's going to look awesome when it's all healed." She said confidently. The other two girls said how theirs were healing up and Griffon mentioned that his seemed fine.

As the morning dragged on, Cas found herself itching for other entertainment or things to do. She missed Randi, and part of her wished she had been with her last night, rather than getting tattoos with everyone else. As they sat there still eating breakfast, Cas pulled out her phone and half zoned out of the current conversation, pulling up Randi's messages and beginning to type.
"Hey, missed you last night ;* you free after training? I need some good old fashioned relief." She messaged, and left it ambiguous as to what the "relief" could be. She knew what she meant by it, as she craved the vape, drugs and anything else that calmed her body down, but if Randi took it sexually then that was just as intended. Smirking softly she put her phone back in her pocket and came back into the conversation that was happening. The conversation had obviously continued on from tattoos into the days training. The others were talking about how they were feeling about it, how yesterday's had felt and where they thought they were ranking on the scale. "You won yours didn't you Fable? and unfortunately both of you didn't win, sorry Aya." Cas said, with a dramatic sigh and forlorn rolling of her head, and out of habit she winked at her. Catching herself she straightened back up. She tapped her fingers on the table as she continued speaking. "Yesterday Ghost said that the winners and losers would have a bracket, meaning that we will be versing each other again. I'm curious to who I will be versing, I hope it's not you." Cas said to Fable with a small smile, genuinely meaning that. "Because I hope we all win our simulations." She continued, nodding to Aya and Griffon too. From the look of Griffon and Aya's faces, they also were hoping the same about themselves. Cas had enjoyed versing Aya, and she hadn't felt sad at Aya's loss, as she hadn't worried about who would win and lose. She wouldn't have felt sad if she versed Fable and Fable lost either, but she spoke mostly in reference to Griffon, knowing that he would wish everyone at the table to emerge on top of their simulations today. There was always that terrifying reality that whoever couldn't keep up in scores would eventually fail initiation and be reduced to factionless. Cas did not need to worry about it for herself, not only was she confident that her scores were good and her ranking was good, but she wasn't afraid of being factionless. However, if she were factionless it would mean that there was a higher likelihood of running into her parents, and that she was afraid of. She had no doubts that she would survive quite happily as factionless, but meeting her parents was something she never wanted to do again.

Thinking about her parents caused her to glance at Griffon. He had asked her yesterday if he could meet them, and eventually guilt tripped her into saying yes. She had no idea why she had agreed, even now anxiety gnawed at her and caused her to feel ill at the thought. She had to make a plan, because she was far too worried about it to let it just happen. There had to be something that she would be able to do, that would cause her to have the upper hand. As she sat there, she thought about it longer. Her parents - as far as she knew - didn't know that either of them were alive. Thus, if Griffon wanted to meet them... they didn't have to both do it! Meaning that they could lie, say that one of them was dead, and that would mean they would have the upper hand. While Griffon was meeting with them, Cas would be able to spy on them, and would be able to gather information, and should anything happen, she would be ready. If that were going to happen, she needed to prepare things. "It's almost time for training, and I actually forgot I have something really important to do, so I need to rush off. See you guys at training!" Cas said suddenly, causing everyone to blink in surprise. If anyone wanted to question her they didn't, but just said their goodbyes. 'Here's the money for my stuff, thanks Fable." Cas slipped some money to Fable, gave Griffon a kiss on the cheek and then made her way out of the place quickly. As soon as she was out of viewing distance from them, she began to jog, and made her way quickly out of the compound entirely. As she rushed through the outer complex of Dauntless she kept an eye on her watch for the time, she couldn't be late to training. All she needed was the right person, or the right place... She finally made her way to a spot that she knew was a favourite for factionless to congregate, not only was it a good place to pick up illegal drugs, but weapons were often smuggled here, a lot of "fun" could be done here, and she knew it was not checked on regularly by the Dauntless security. As she slowed down, she made herself become very alert, and her eyes began scanning the area. Since it was daylight, the entire place seemed abandoned, and broken down. Nobody would ever come here, if it weren't to do business with those who frequented this area. Cas had come here enough to know who to talk to, where to look, and how to act. Sneaking around expertly, she crept into a building that was only accessible by a small (but large enough for a person) crack in the wall, and before entering, she tapped on the wall seven times, loud enough for anyone inside to hear. After doing so she waited about 10 seconds till she heard a repeat of her knocks, and she squeezed in. The darkness was blinding, and she kept one hand on the righthands side of the wall, following it downwards, as there was a decline to the basement. She kept her head low and often had to basically crawl, still in complete darkness, till the last part included sliding down and landing in a dimly lit cellar, deep underneath the ground. What once used to be a wine cellar was now a popular underground bar and drug dealing business. It was close enough to Dauntless that it was run by a skeleton crew, one or two people at the most, and only a few were allowed in to do business at a time. As expected, there was on person at the bar, and since it was morning, Cas was the only one down here. She knew there would be one person in the back, there always was, and there was an escape tunnel too. She probably should have brought a weapon, but she was fairly confident.

"Draven dear, it's been a little too long hasn't it? You're looking good." Cas said with a sweet honey dripping note in her voice. The man behind the bar glanced up at her and grinned. "Circe sweetheart! It's been far too long. I hope you haven't found another place better than here." He said, his voice slick and deep with rich tones. He had a warm smile and waved Cas over. He knew her name wasn't Circe, just as she knew his name wasn't Draven, but in this group, in this place, you never used your real name, only an idiot would. She walked over quite confidently and sat at the bar stool. "How's business?" She asked, as he poured her a screwdriver and gave it to her without her even asking. She began to sip at it, having already placed the money and he having already pocketed it. He shrugged. "Slower than usual here, too many Dauntless patrols recently. We've had to slow it right down." Cas tilted her head curiously, if that were true, was there something going on that she should know about. If there were more patrols, then something must have set it off. "Did something happen?" She asked, a twinkle in her eyes, but Draven just laughed, saying that it must have been some idiot factionless who were causing trouble for everyone else. Cas knew better than to press her luck, and she nodded along, still sipping her drink. Draven nodded at the recovering tattoo, and she laughed. "not the smartest idea, but it's growing on me." She shrugged. Once she had finished her screwdriver, she again began to tap the counter with her fingers. "Who's on with you?" She asked, Draven hesitated for a moment, but knowing Cassidy well enough he answered her. "Cheglok's in the back. Do you want him? I can swap over." He said. Cassidy almost purred. "No that's alright darling, but would I be able to go see him? I need a favour." She said. Draven grinned as she said this, and he came over to her, leaning over the bar. "Oh? And what do I get from it?" He asked. Cassidy drew her face closer to his, leaning over the bar to do so. "Well.. that depends on what you want... What do you want, Draven?" She breathed, her breath tickling his lips and her nose brushing his. She knew she was playing with fire, but she knew she could handle it. Draven considered it, his eyes focusing heavily on her lips, and her body that was leaning on the counter. He leaned forward just a tad, their lips almost meeting, before hesitating, grinning, and pulling back. "How about a favour?" He asked, and Cassidy chuckled. "I assume it's a favour you won't tell me until you need it?" Cassidy said, eyebrow raising. Draven grinned, and waved her to go down the side to where Cheglok must be. She blew him a kiss as she got down from the bar stool and walked to the back. The light was even dimmer back here, and yet she knew her way well enough to get by without even squinting. She felt her heart beating quickly though, and she tried to breathe deeply in order to stop it. She refused to be frightened or anxious here. She knew she was in over her head, but that was the thing, if she knew it, then she wasn't. Finally getting to the back room, she knocked seven times on the door, and after hearing it returned, she entered in, closing the door behind her. The room itself was brighter due to a heavily scented candle burning, but the room was filled with smoke, not just any smoke, but it was heavily infused with something. Cas felt herself breathe it in, and she felt it tickle her throat and nose. Refusing to cough or splutter, she took a few breaths to get used to it, and felt it go into her, causing her to feel slightly light headed and dizzy, but at the same time she felt warm and heavy. She turned around, looking at the familiar room, sitting on one of the two armchairs in the room was Cheglok, and he grinned. "Circe, I am glad to see you." He said with a sickly sweet voice. Cassidy took another breath, and walked over. She hoped she would make it out of here in time to get to training. She probably should have gone after. "Hello Cheglok." She said, sitting down on the other armchair. "I need a favour."

Griffon || 18 17 || Initiate || Abnegation Transfer

Griffon felt the world inside of Fable's hug. It always felt like home, like fulfillment, like perfection. He felt so warm within her arms, that when she pulled back he almost felt sad. But he was glad when she signed back to him that she had the batteries. He assured her that he wasn't upset. "It was my fault, I should have turned them off overnight but I forgot to." He let her know. He would have changed them out today regardless, but they should only have started running out after training. Once he had been given the batteries and they had sat down, he carefully replaced the batteries in his ear pieces and returned the empty ones to Fable, so that she could charge them when she had the time and ability. Griffon would have done this himself, but because of his forgetfulness, he had often gone days without being able to hear due to him forgetting to charge his batteries or losing them. Fable had gotten so used to doing it herself while they were in Abnegation that they had just continued once here, and he was grateful for it. As soon as he had his hearing aids in his ears, he made sure they were on properly and was relieved as he suddenly was able to hear everyone's voices now. Before they were in, it was like listening to everyone through three feet of brick walls and under water. Rather than having improved since his accident his hearing had only gotten worse, but the hearing aids had always worked, and he wasn't worried about it. "That's better. Thank you Fable, for the batteries and the food." He said, as he happily began to sip on his hot chocolate. The girls all said hello and everyone began to happily eat breakfast and drink their drinks. Fable asked how everyone's tattoos were, and Griffon listened as Aya and Cas said their answers. Once it was his turn he nodded. "Mine is good, Cas said it looks really nice and isn't even swollen." He said. He knew he was lucky, that he couldn't feel it at all, but he was also aware that he was lucky it was healing well too. If it wasn't, he wouldn't be able to feel it and it would get much worse. "I'll have to show you some other time, it's a bit hard to get access to my shoulder with the shirt and vest on." He admitted, realizing that his shoulder was likely not the best place for a tattoo, he wished he had thought about it a bit more... but he couldn't think of anywhere else to have it, and it had been Cas who had suggested it too, he wouldn't have wanted to get it anywhere she didn't want him to have it. He kind of liked it being a secretive thing anyway, it made it more personal. "how about yours Fable?" He asked, wanting to know whether she was feeling good about it or if anything was off, like Cassidy's, who was still in pain. After she had spoken, they continued to talk about their morning. Griffon made sure to comment on how beautiful all the girls looked, a blush on his face when he complimented Aya. Cas was quiet for a while, on her phone, but nobody minded.

"Is everyone ready for training today? Anybody nervous?" He asked the group, as he finished off his hot cocoa and moved on to his food. He listened as Aya and Fable answered. "I'm hoping we don't have to get an instructors fear, or anybody other than our own, I felt so bad for Charlie yesterday, it must have been really awful to have all your fears opened up to everyone." He said. Although he couldn't remember the other fears, only remembering that the one he and Vex got was height, he still felt sad. He was sure that in at least one of them there was a personal fear that was like having a wound reopened. The other girls agreed. "I must admit I'm a bit nervous, I don't think puzzle solving is my best skill." He admitted. He knew that out of the four of them, the girls were all much better than he at this sort of thing. He was good at being brave and not being scared, but when it came to puzzle solving? He had a slower process than most others. He wondered if he had figured it out earlier if he would have beaten Vex? As Cas piped in, reminding them that they would be versing others in the winners or losers bracket, Griffon looked at Aya. "I hope I don't verse you either, Aya." Griffon, though if he did verse her, he hoped that he would lose and she would win. He had no idea what his current ranking was, he didn't recall whether the last time he checked whether he was in the top half or lower half, but he would hate if him beating Aya would put her lower. She was so worthy of being in Dauntless, much more than him. Was he afraid of being factionless? Only a little. His fear would be not being with Cas or Fable anymore, and also not being able to see Aya either. That would be torturous and sad. He also doubted that he would survive without Fable or Cas. He wondered, if he dropped out due to his ranking, would Cas join him? Or would she continue? He felt like he knew what she would do, and he hoped she never would. He knew she would follow him, wherever he went. But he didn't want her to. He wanted her to succeed where she wanted to, where she could, even at his loss. But at the same time, he couldn't deny how loving it would be for her to do that for him, if he did drop out. But Cas would let him know if he was close to dropping out, and she would do something, she always did. they continued talking happily as the day got further in, it was early enough that they weren't worried about being late to training yet.

As they were happily sitting there, Cas suddenly announced that she needed to go, to everyone's surprise. Griffon tried to raise an eyebrow to ask her what she was going off to do, but she left quickly, giving Fable money and then leaving without another word. He wished she would have told him where she was going, as he felt unnerved that she was heading off somewhere before training. If she were late to training she would surely have points erased, and the other person would win by default... But she was gone now, and none of them could do anything about it. Griffon sighed softly and looked back at the girls, who looked just as concerned as him. "I'm sure she will still beat us to training." He joked, hoping it was true but doubting it slightly. She looked like she was in a rush, and had possibly forgotten something. Noticing that everyone had finished their plates, he stood up and gathered the plates. As he did so, getting thank you's from both Aya and Fable, as his hand went to get Aya's he felt her hand brush his. Although he could feel no pain, and often that meant he couldn't feel much else either, he was surprised as that tiny almost nonexistant brush of their hands caused a tickle to go up his arm and he felt a flush in his cheeks. He quickly took the plates up to the kitchen, who thanked him for being kind, and returned to the girls. His hand felt funny. He had not been able to feel pain or most touch for so long, that he forgot that it wasn't entirely in all of his body that he couldn't feel it. His condition affected all of his pain receivers, and he could feel no pain at all, but other types of touch he could... sometimes feel. Most of his back had been beaten so severely that he could feel nothing on it, the same was for his forearms and torso. He had never had great feeling in his legs, and other than those parts he didn't often touch things or think about the things that he did touch. Obviously he could feel things with his hands, he felt the plates as he carried them, otherwise he would have dropped them. But human touch was so strange to him, so non-existant, that the tiny brush of Aya's skin on his own caused an almost electric shock feeling to run up his arm. He had gotten so used to Cas and Fable's skin that it felt the same as his own, but Aya was not his sister.... It had been strange, but sort of energising, and he wondered if it would happen again? Trying to ignore it, he looked at the two girls. "Do you all want to come to training with me? Or did you have things to do as well?" He asked, a smile on his face, and his hands crammed in his pockets.

Resting against the wall of the entryway Shay held Lev in her arms and let his soft fur and gentle purrs consume her and allow momentary distraction from the pain that drilled through her skull. Somehow Lev always knew when she was hurting the most and being the gentle ball of fluff he was the large golden tom seemed to do his very best to bring her comfort. This had been his role and the reason her father thought to give her a pet when she left home though Shay had come to view him as so much more. When she wouldn’t allow herself to get close to others it was all too easy to place all her love in Lev, he was her world and the darling light of her life. It might sound pathetic to others to have a cat hold such importance but Shay didn’t give a damn what others thought because Lev had done more good for her than most others would understand. Gently running her fingers through his long fur she wished she could stay in this moment for just a bit longer but alas it had to end. Shifting Lev in her arms so she could see his face she gave him a small smile through the pain in her head and whispered, “Thank you my lion.” Touching her head to his gently she rested there for a heartbeat before shifting carefully to place the tom on the ground beside her.

Blinking once, twice, three times, Shay finally began to move again despite every part of her wanting to just stay on the cool floor with her head leaned against the wall. It wasn’t comfortable but at this point nothing was. Carefully she managed to climb up to a standing position, her arm resting against the wall to keep herself steady as she summoned the willpower to take the necessary shaky steps towards her bedroom. She had to get to Dauntless training, she couldn’t afford to miss and allow her score to plummet further. It didn’t take a rocket scientist for her to know that she had lost the completion yesterday so today she would have to win or she would be in a very dire circumstance. Shuffling rather unsteadily towards her bedroom Shay managed to get through the door and over to her side table where she fumbled with a bottle of pills that were screaming her name. Popping three of them past her lips and downing the bottle of water resting on the side table Shay prayed the medication would work long enough to alleviate the pain through training. Based on all that had happened in the last twenty-four hours she knew the pain would be far from gone but she didn’t want a repeat of what happened yesterday. She already looked like a corpse, she didn’t need to become one during training too.

Once she had a few moments to rest and let the pills get to work Shay began to stagger around her room and attempt to ready herself for the day. All she needed was to get through training and then she would be able to rest again. It was clear by her outfit of choice that she wasn’t dressing to impress anyone but rather for comfort. Piece by piece she carefully pulled on a pair of black leggings, a sports bra to match, and a baggy maroon and black hoodie. For shoes, she kept it simple as well by slipping into some worn-down tennis shoes that were black and white or at least used to be white. As Shay was fishing through her clothes from the day before for her valuable items she realized she had two phones in the pockets of her blood-stained jeans. One of them was hers and as she looked over the second one she realized that it must have been Chris’s. She vaguely recalled grabbing a phone from the side table at the hospital before sneaking out of her room, that must have been Chris’s phone that he accidentally left behind when he accompanied her to the hospital. “Shit.” She sighed and realized that this meant she would need to return it. Shay hadn’t been hoping for too much social interaction due to still feeling like death decided to toss her in a wood chipper but Chris needed his phone and she had to make sure it got to him safely, besides she would be seeing him at training anyways.

Once Shay was dressed she found the way to the bathroom and washed her face and ears of dried blood. It certainly wasn’t pretty but at least she no longer had the red stains all over her skin. Looking in the mirror she saw how sunken she looked, the dark bags under her eyes making her look like a ghost. Had she more energy she might have tried to apply even the smallest amount of makeup to hide it but alas she couldn’t find it in her to give a damn. Soon enough Shay was on her way shakily out of her apartment, her legs still feeling a bit like jelly but her head doing slightly better due to the pills she had taken. It no longer felt as though someone was drilling into her brain but rather just prodding it over and over with a sharp object…so not great but also not as bad. After what felt like an eternity Shay finally managed to reach the testing center and felt her head spinning as she did. Stepping inside and carefully making her way towards the initiate training area Shay kept an eye out for Chris so she could return his phone to him.

Christian Parks || 16 || Initiate || Dauntlessborn

Christian found himself just casually chatting with Briony about the simulations. He wasn't sure what she was feeling about it, but he was actually excited to try again. He had won the last simulation, which had been great. He felt bad for Thorn, whom he had beaten, but he also knew that it proved his Dauntless compatibility, and it proved that Dr Munro's treatment was working. He was glad for the chance to try again, and he hoped he would do well, that he would win, and make Dr Munro and Vex proud. Make himself proud. As they spoke, Briony opened up about two things, one of them was the fear she believed they might pick, and Christian nodded his head in agreement. Almost as if calling it into existence, Honey had bounded over to the two of them, excited to see Christian, and Briony. Christian had bent down to take the entirety of Honey's eager happiness and excitement, wrapping his large arms around her and uncaring that she was licking his face and snuggling up to him. "Hey Honey." He said warmly, a large smile on his face and a tight squeeze for the beautiful dog. She yipped and wagged her tail so firmly that it was audible. Christian did not let go of Honey, even though he knew the dog was harmless, he was aware of Briony's fear, and he didn't want her to be frightened. Phillip noticed the predicament from afar, and whistled for Honey to return. She gave a happy bark to Christian before running back to Phillip and obediently sitting beside him. Christian shrugged when Briony thanked him. "It's fine, it's understandable." He muttered, knowing he also had fears of animals. It wasn't dogs, but birds. As she asked him what he thought they might pick, he shrugged again. "I really couldn't say, any one of them would do I suppose, maybe they won't pick and will choose at random? I don't know." He finished, as he pondered the next things that Briony mentioned. The fear she was afraid might come up. He was surprised, not only that there was only one that she was fearful of them using, but also because of the fear itself. He had somehow always believed that Briony thrived on independence, so hearing her say that it was a frightful thought to have those closest to her not be around, and that being the most fearful thing for her... He understood it, but it took him by surprise. Thinking on his fears, he suddenly remembered the simulation he had gone through when they were still in phase 2, and he shivered, feeling himself go pale at the thought. He could still remember how in his dream he had killed Blair by accident, and how in real life he had hurt her by accident. "I've already had my worst fear in the simulations... and in real life, I have no desire to have it again." He said through gritted teeth.

As they continued to speak, with Briony letting him know she'd have to help him look after she had finished something after Training, he happened to notice as Shay walked into the room. Immediately guilt racked his body as he remembered how he had been planning to go to the hospital, had literally been making his way over, when Briony had stopped him. Now that he saw Shay, he felt awful for not having gone. She looked awful. She was pale and obviously not well, but here all the same. He wondered whether she had been let out by the hospital or whether she had gone out without permission. In the state she had appeared yesterday, and how she appeared now, he had to imagine that she had snuck off on her own accord. Turning to Briony he started to speak. "I'll see you after whatever it is your busy with then, I'm just going to go see Shay now." He said politely, before stepping away from Briony and making his way over to Shay. It wasn't like there were heaps of people in here yet, even though it was nearing training time, heck even Ghost was here, and he didn't even work here anymore. Of course the most notable characters who weren't here were Finn and Blair, two people who at this point were missing and uncontactable it seemed. Otherwise it was simply about half of the initiates. Christian took his thoughts off of this as he neared Shay, who had by now seen him and was staying where she was, leaning against a column... Chris assumed it was for legitimate support. "Hello Shay." He said as he finally reached her. Her eyes were dark, as were the circles around her eyes, and she looked like she was shaking on the spot. Part of Christian desired to pick her up and carry her back to hospital, but he knew she would have his head if he did that, and would be very upset at him. She returned his greeting, then shuffled through her pockets, finally passing a phone to him. "What is... oh... thank you." He said as he saw that it was in fact his phone. She explained that he had left it at the hospital, and luckily she had grabbed it on her way out thinking it was hers. He noticed that it had a number of texts and missed calls, many were from Briony, some were from the family chat, but the most recent one was from Fable. From the small amount he could read, she was asking if he wanted coffee. He quickly replied to the message. I'm fine thanks, maybe we can get drinks after training? I'm at training now though if you want to hang beforehand too. He replied to her, and then put his phone back into his pocket, he would have to let Briony know that he now had his phone back, otherwise she might buy one for him.

As he stood, still beside Shay, he sighed softly and spoke. "You weren't discharged were you?" He said softly, plainly. Whether Shay lied, told the truth or remained silent, it wasn't really something that she needed to affirm. He could tell. He had snuck out of hospital before, though very rarely. He was usually a good boy who waited for someone to tell him he was allowed to, but that was not always true. He felt a sense of desire to make sure Shay was safe, and he wanted to inform Charlie that she should keep a good eye on her, but knowing Shay and her desire to be private and not burden people, he didn't. However, he did wonder whether there was anything he could do. "Hey... I don't know if you use... drugs... but I have to, for my condition, and although it isn't a cure or at all a healing agent, it makes all my symptoms feel... temporarily better..." He said softly, as he reached into his pocket to feel the bag which still held one serving of lull. Pulling it out of his pocket, he held it in his hand, enclosed completely within it so nobody could see. He knew he shouldn't give any to Shay, but he also wondered whether it would make life more bearable for her. She was already dying, and the amount that Chris had right now was not enough to get addicted by or overdose, at least not from what he knew. He wasn't aware of whether Shay drank or smoked or did drugs, but he was sure that she must take some pain killers. Hesitating slightly, he showed her the bag. "I can give this to you, it's one dose... You could try it? It might help?" He said. He wasn't quite sure what SHay's reactions were, as her current demeanor and health caused her to look perpetually unsure and wary of everything. "It's called Lull, or at least that's what I was told... It can be dangerous, but only in large amounts." He said, wanting to be as honest as possible. He wouldn't want Shay to find some of her own and take so much. He was on a death sentence because of it, she didn't need to be on two death sentences. Shay was hesitation, again Chris couldn't tell why though, and finally he simply passed it to her and shoved his hands in his pockets. "Keep it, you can choose what to do with it. If you don't want it then... sell it or throw it in the bin. I can get more for myself." Christian said. He went to walk off, but on second thought he decided to stay nearby to Shay. "I'll be honest. Overdosing on this is why I'm dying. But not taking it would also kill me. So if you do take some... please be careful. It's amazing, but dangerous." He finally said, leaving it in her choice.

Phillip Parks || 19 || Soldier/Trainer || Dauntlessborn

"You mean you won't tell me?" Phillip said, his eyes widening and a pout forming on his face. As soon as Bloom had said no, he had no intention of digging further, but he definitely would continue to prod at her playfully. He knew Bloom well enough to know she knew him well enough to know he was just playing at this point. Bloom continued to shake her head and playfully berate at him for trying to find out. "You mean... I'm not included in this secret girls code? And all this time I've been growing out my hair for nothing.." Phillip said dramatically, running his fingers through his brown curly hair, immediately getting them stuck and awkwardly having to get them out, producing a number of giggles from Bloom. He had to admit that her giggles were some of the most delightful things to ever come to his ears. "It's fine... though... I hope you know that by not telling me, I am creating my own headcanon for this giddy behaviour exhibited in our gentle medic, and I will tell you it's naughty, and may involve you." Phillip said, poking his tongue out at Bloom and winking his eyes. He was well aware that Charlie and Bloom were not an item, as long as he had known Charlie he had only known her to be interested in men, and although he was fairly sure Bloom seemed interested in both, he'd only ever seen friendship between her and Charlie. At his comment he had to duck to avoid Bloom's wide arcing hand that went searching for his face. "Ooh that was close... oof" He began to say pridefully, only to get an elbow to the ribs. He doubled over, dramatically again, and then quickly laughed and straightened back up, only half rubbing his ribs and respectfully finishing his little quips. He raised his hands in surrender. "I'm done I'm done! I was just having so much fun teasing you." He admitted. Bloom laughed, but noting that they were running out of time, she asked Phillip to relay back to her what he remembered. Phillip let out a long breath as he looked at everything. He had a fairly good memory, and relayed most of it back as it had been given to him. Bloom had to reiterate one thing about the more technical side of it, but other than that she said that he was as ready as she was to do this job. He grinned, happily excited for this new part of his life. The entrance of initiates was also causing him to get excited. Although the fear sims were not fun, the good thing about the 3rd phase was that it didn't make you think you were in a simulation, it allowed you to have that clarity in your mind to know it wasn't real, and thus the fear could be somewhat taken away from the situation. Not everyone could do that, but some could. So he was excited to see the initiates hopefully excel. Bloom had explained to him how the day would go, and that those from yesterday who had won would verse each other, and those who had lost would verse each other. Phillip felt sorry for those who were going to lose after having already lost yesterday. That didn't seem like fun at all.

As he scanned the initiates, he noted as Honey ran off without permission, not super odd as he hadn't been giving her any orders and she'd simply been sitting near him, but as soon as he saw who she was running to, he was aware of why. Christian and Briony had just entered, and Honey was bounding over to them. Not only was she excited to see Christian, but Honey loved Briony too, and hardly ever saw her. Christian was as much a gentleman as always, and Phillip smiled as he watched Christian hold Honey, being loving towards Honey but also being more loving to Briony by not letting Honey get near her. Even from here Phillip could see Briony's uncomfortability. He sighed sadly, he really liked Briony, and it always made him sad that she didn't love Honey. She had let him know that it was a fear she had that she couldn't deal with dogs anymore, and he had accepted that, but he also knew that he couldn't deal with life if Honey died. The mere thought of it made him feel like his world would end, and he feared his depression was held back by the golden hound. He let out a whistle, and called Honey's name. Obediently she returned, and he told her to stay with him. He patted her head, as his gaze returned to Briony. His mind went back to the last month or so, he and Briony had always known each other, but there was a time, not long after Chris had started dating Blair, not long after initiation had started, that Briony had made advances to Phillip. He had been very surprised, having not thought she would be into him, but had not stopped those advances, in fact he had eagerly accelerated them, and the two of them had gotten into quite the enticing romance. They were a good pairing, and also bad. They enjoyed each others company vastly, and Phillip still felt sad that he wasn't spending that time with Briony anymore, but there were too many things that clashed for them both. Phillip couldn't let go of Honey, and Briony couldn't deal with her being a constant in her life. Phillip wasn't mad at Briony for that, just like she wasn't mad at him. They had tried for compromises, keeping Honey in another room when they spent time together, or training Honey to lie in the furthest corner while they spent time together, but even then, when Honey would make one movement or sound, Briony had always reacted so badly to it, that Phillip hadn't found it fair, and when Honey was gone from the room, Phillip always just felt like it was pointless, because he would never be getting rid of Honey long term... Plus, Briony had admitted some things to him about why she had advanced to him, and they both agreed that it was better to call it off. Plus, now that he was an instructor, he couldn't be with an initiate anyway. It was better this way, even if it was a little sad. He made a mental note to ask whether Briony wanted to hang out later though, maybe in a group so she wouldn't feel weird with him and Honey around.

Having been watching Briony, he watched as she went and saw Ghost, and he suddenly had a great idea. He didn't know Ghost super well, but from what he did know of the man, he was a fun person to be around. Plus, he kind of really wanted to know the guy more, and he was nosey and wanted to see in his office.
"hey Bloom, I'll be back when training starts, I'm just gonna try catch someone real quick." He said, and telling Honey to stay with Bloom, he sprinted over to where Ghost was. He waved at Briony and Christian, but mostly he was focused on reaching Ghost. He was unfortunately just a tad too late, as Ghost had already slipped into his office, and Phillip stood outside of it for a second. After deciding that 1: yes it would be rude but 2: It would be fun, he entered Ghost's office and closed the door behind him, surprised that Ghost hadn't locked it from the inside. "Ahh, your office smells like vape." Phillip said sniffing the air with a long deep sniff, aware that Ghost was glaring at him unhappily. Somehow that only made Phillip feel better. "I'm not sure the flavour though, forest berries? Cotton candy? I must say that blueberry is one of my favourites... Not that I vape myself, I just like the scent. I wonder if they sell candles in that flavour?" He mused, waltzing in as if he owned the place and taking a look around. Ghost seemed to half ignore him as he was packing down, and Phillip felt a fun tickle within him as he felt like he was dancing around a scorpion or spider that was ready to strike with venom if he got too close. "I wonder if they'll let me have your office, I feel like it could use some renovating, I was thinking I could paint it something more interesting, maybe spectral blue? Or white? In honor of you of course." He chuckled softly, as he took in the room. Although he was mostly playing, he did wonder if he would be given an office. What would he even do with an office. "What do you even do in here? Apart from vape and get away from initiates? Or... do I not want to know?" He asked, raising an eyebrow suggestively to the other male. Ghost rolled his eyes, or that's how Phillip perceived it, and finally asked whether Phillip had anything he really wanted or if he was here simply to wind him up. "Well I did actually want something. I figured that you might be the best person to do this with, as lovely as Bloom and Charlie are, I figured they aren't generally gambling people." He said, and saw as Ghost immediately had a reaction to that, and Phillip gladly continued. "Well, maybe it's not good, but I have to say the first thing I thought about when Bloom was talking about Sims was how much fun it would be to bet on who would win." He said, and checked Ghost's reaction, figuring it looked good, he continued. "Like I said, I don't really think Bloom or Charlie would do it, but you on the other hand? Surely you have scouted out who you think is the best? Me? I'm just an upstart, but I still think I know these initiates, I've known most of them longer than you anyhow. What do you say? Shall we place bets? There is no limits here, my friend." Phillip's eyes twinkled with delightful mischievousness, his fingers twitching with the urge to play.

Ghost // Male // Age 18 // Officially Unemployed // Erudite to Dauntless

Ghost stood surveying his office, wondering where to tackle the symphony of organized chaos that faced him first. Books lay scattered across a partially warped bookshelf, magical heist novels to a guide on hypnosis for beginners to a romance novel in Spanish, not so much because he cared about the story itself but because he appreciated the chance to sharpen his skills and pick up new, dirty lingo. A tall pair of boots was discarded in a corner by the door, a tripping hazard for the unwary. The surface of his desk was barely visible beneath an array of novelty coffee cups, decks of cards, cheap plastic beads he’d gotten at a club last week, and a laptop that was currently out of commission because he’d broken the charger and had yet to acquire a new one. A thin layer of dust coated a skylight resting beside the far wall, and the only adornment on the floor was an exercise mat decaying foam, little particles of which littered a five-foot radius.
Ghost took his time cracking his knees as he gathered his thoughts, not relishing the task ahead of him. True to form, he hadn’t remembered to bring boxes with him to pack up his stuff, as coming to work today had been a spur-of-the-moment decision based on his alarm clock needlessly waking him up at its usual time. And, true to their form, none of the superiors who’d seen him fired had bothered to leave him boxes for his office stuff, not that Ghost had expected them to. Resolving to tidy up the space for easy movement later on and carry out what he could in both arms, Ghost busied himself with the post-cataclysm wreckage that was his desk. It smelled overtly like coffee from the stale liquid that he’d forgotten to dump from one of the mugs.
He was so absorbed in his work that he didn’t notice the office door open until it clicked shut with a sigh of air. The desk crouching between them like a shield, Ghost swung his gaze up to regard a relative stranger; relative because Ghost couldn’t place a name, but the face was familiar. He’d seen this guy around the compound before, and Bloom had been talking to him with moonstruck eyes when Ghost had slunk inside the training center. He was hard not to notice, with his boisterous wreath of cinnamon curls and the treasure trove of tawdry jewelry clinking with his every movement. For the stranger’s sake, Ghost hoped he wasn’t planning a break-in anytime soon. “Hi,” Ghost said pointedly, a little sharper than he’d intended.
The stranger’s gaze leapt to Ghost as if only just noticing him because he’d been too fixated on the office’s questionable decor before. Rather than introduce himself or state his reason for entering, he commented on the aroma of the room. A wry half-smile pulled at the edge of Ghost’s lips. “Guilty as charged,” he said smoothly, revealing the vape that he’d tucked into his pocket by instinct when he’d heard the door open on the off-chance that the entrant had been someone from the leadership panel. Not that they could really punish Ghost further now that they’d taken his job, but he wouldn’t put it past them to confiscate his vape just because they could. And he’d just bought this one today, too. “It’s cherry lemon, want a hit? You wouldn’t believe how absurdly hard it is to find a plain cherry vape. This was the closest I could get. They’re always something overcomplicated and polysyllabic, like peach watermelon dragon fruit. Like, who the hell is gonna be bothered to remember all of that let alone say it? And does anyone actually know what dragon fruit tastes like?”
Ghost extended the other vape magnanimously, and when the other boy declined, he placed it between his own lips and took another breath. He made no move to stop the stranger as he swaggered up to the skylight on the far wall, examining it with hands behind his back as if he were looking at a painting in a museum. If Bloom trusted this guy, then Ghost wouldn’t mark him as a threat unless given reason to. He’d finally finished sorting the decks of cards into two tall stacks and uncovered a classical music CD, abandoned because Ghost had nothing to play a relic so old on. “You got a lotta ass-kissing to do before they give you an office, man. Don’t be jealous, though, it’s not worth it.” Privately, Ghost raised an eyebrow. So this guy was his replacement. From Warren’s superior taunting the previous day, Ghost would have guessed that it’d have been him.
What?” Ghost spun around, pressing a hand to his chest and feigning offense when the other boy revealed that he thought the office lackluster. “You don’t like the paint job?” he said, gesturing at the colorless walls. “I call this shade tears of my enemies. I painted it myself, can you tell?” This caught the other boy’s attention. His eyes narrowed as he looked Ghost over, as if sizing him up or wondering how much stock to put in his words. Finally, as if his short analysis had come to a desirable conclusion, his face split into a wide, guileless grin. Despite himself, warmth infused Ghost’s chest, and he returned his gaze to sorting the desk before one moment could become several. There was little point in befriending his replacement employee when this was likely Ghost’s last time in the testing center, but kindling conversation with strangers had always come more easily to him. Unless the other boy told him, Ghost had no intention to ask after his name, either, because that would shatter the illusion of their chance meeting. Plus, his new acquaintance would be getting a false name in return.
“What do I do in here, my villainous lair? Besides scheme diabolical plans for everyone’s demise, you mean?” Ghost quipped. “Sometimes I read when I can get no peace and quiet elsewhere. Roommates are a bitch more often than not. Recently I’ve started working out in here if the initiates’ arena is occupied. But my favorite activity? Getting high as a motherfucking kite.” He punctuated this statement with a wink, not intending to inquire whether the other boy was a smoker, but giving him a branch to further that line of conversation if he chose it. The other boy grinned and raised an eyebrow, as if mildly surprised that Ghost would confide something so blatantly illegal to him, but said nothing. Ghost cleared his throat in the silence. “Let me return the question to you then. What are you doing here, in my lair?”
The curly-haired boy mulled over his response as if he were strategically ordering from a cocktail menu, searching for something that would both taste sweet and do its job. At the words gambling people, Ghost instantly tensed. He didn’t know this boy, but he clearly had heard of Ghost. He tried to swallow down his own heart from where it had crawled into his throat, but he knew he was a second too late; the stranger’s caramel-colored eyes were carefully trained on him, and a mischievous gleam appeared in them. “Who gave you my name?” Ghost demanded, knowing that there was no use playing coy. His gambling proclivities had been in large part why he’d faked his death before transferring to Dauntless. There were uncountable other street urchins whose money Ghost had taken at the card table, both honestly and not, and he’d known that the noose would tighten eventually. And he’d have a hard enough time passing Dauntless initiation without a death squad on the prowl for him. The fact that this boy had known without hesitation who to approach for a gamble wasn’t good news. It made Ghost wonder just how much else he knew.
The other boy had started to respond, but Ghost’s skin prickled as fury and defiance buzzed through him like brandy. He wouldn’t be unnerved so easily. “You know what? Don’t answer that. I may have been fired yesterday, but you’re offering to pay me for not working? I’ll take your money. I will take your money with a fucking smile on my face, sir.” Ghost smiled insincerely to emphasize his point. “Let’s go see Bloom about who’s competing today, hm? I’m eating a goddamn steak tonight.” Without waiting for the other boy’s agreement, he sidestepped around his desk and started for the door.
Consulting Bloom wasn’t necessary. In the time between when he’d entered the testing center to emerging from his office, everyone’s names were printed neatly in red dry-erase marker on the whiteboard, with dotted lines connecting today’s opponents. There were two columns, presumably one for winners and the other for losers from yesterday’s matches. Ghost stood stiffly as he surveyed the board, his left hand clenching the right hard enough for his watch to leave an imprint on his wrist. “What do you say, twenty on each match? That way when I get all six of them right I pocket one-twenty, yeah?” Ghost’s brow furrowed and he sucked in his cheeks as he studied the board with all his focus, grateful for the excuse to look anywhere but at the stranger who’d thrown him so off-balance. Except he wasn’t a stranger anymore. Now he was Ghost’s opponent and newest mark.
“You extended the offer to me, so I’ll take the liberty of choosing where the bets are. I’m betting on Christian, Cassidy, Randi… Thorn… Shayla… And I wouldn’t bet on either Briony or Griffon if they were competing against anyone else, but since they aren't, I’ll choose Briony.” If for no reason than because she’d been batshit enough to call Ghost “open game” ten minutes ago. With any luck, maybe fear just didn’t have the same leverage on someone so unhinged. “Do we have a deal?” The other boy ran his tongue over his teeth as though contemplating, and then he nodded, lips twitching into the sort of smile that belonged on a fallen angel. “Great, may the best gambler win,” Ghost said in a supremely bored tone, accepting the other boy’s hand when he held it out to shake. No sooner had his opponent released him when Ghost spun away, needing distance to clear his head. It’d been years since he’d made such an impulsive, unnecessary gamble, yet his blood was singing in his veins with the thrill of it.
Several more initiates had trickled into the training hall since he’d last been out on the floor. There were six minutes left until assessments started so there still wasn’t a full crowd, yet it struck Ghost how many excess chairs there were than initiates remaining at this late in the game. Just as they had previously, his eyes latched onto Anika, sitting at least two chairs away from the nearest initiate on all sides. Maybe because he was always bored, or because he was always instigating, or because he could never leave anything alone, Ghost flopped into the seat next to her carelessly, the legs of the chair screeching with the lurch of his motion. He brushed the hair out of his eyes like a bird preening his feathers. “The new guy and I are putting money on the outcomes of today’s sims. Twenty each match,” he said without preamble. His tone was so casual that he could have been discussing the weather. “I bet against you, so do me a favor and lose gracefully, will you, sweetheart?”

Vex

Mood: Calculating

Location: Testing Center

Interactions: Ghost, Chris

It didn’t take Vex too long to make her way into the testing center where she awaited the next round of assessments to begin. As she entered she noticed not many had shown their faces yet and knew that more often than not the majority of initiates tended to surge in right before testing began. Her eyes scanned her surroundings and she noticed Charlie, Bloom, and a new face that she recognized from Chris’s file. Phillip Parks, one of many older siblings to Christian Parks, a member of the Dauntless security force and part of Bloom’s initiate class. Vex had done her homework on him due to the interest Dr. Munro held in Chris and now she was grateful she had. By the way he currently seemed to be carrying himself and talking with Bloom it was easy for Vex to pick up on the fact that he was a flirt. That could be useful. But her primary interest as far as the Parks family was involved centered around Chris, not his brother, though she would be sure to keep an eye on him and report his arrival as a new instructor to Dr. Munro. She wasn’t yet certain of how involved Phillip would want to become with Chris’s life now that it was part of his job and she needed to be ready to deal with any matters that might arise to the best of her abilities.

One by one the other initiates came trickling in and Vex took note of the little groupings they had appeared in. Griffon, Aya, Cas, and Fable together. Randi and Rhys showing up as a pair. Chris and Briony slipping in together as well. She noted that Aubrey and Thorn arrived at the same time as well. Her eyes locked on a dark-haired young woman who stumbled in and leaned against the wall as though she were out of breath, her skin paler than normal and dark circles under her eyes. Shayla. Vex truly hadn’t expected to see the terminally ill female back at testing so soon, in fact, Vex half expected Shay to do everyone else a favor and just give up and drop out. As far as she was concerned the black-haired female was as good as gone in this initiate class, she would soon either be among the factionless or dead and Vex didn’t really care either way. Seeing that Shayla had dragged herself all the way to training might have impressed some people but to Vex it just seemed like a waste of time and energy to even indulge the girl who would be six feet under before she could even properly serve a purpose if she did manage to get through training. Then again Vex didn’t have the same capabilities to sympathize and admire that others did.

Not for the first time since arriving Vex locked eyes with Ghost and as their gaze met he came swaggering over and plopped himself in the seat beside her. Instantly she was focused on reading his body language, listening to the fluctuations of his voice, and so on so she could properly absorb the information their conversation would unfold to her. “Darling you seem to forget,” She began in a silky smooth tone as the two spoke to each other, her body relaxed and a seductive smirk pulling at her lips. “I’m here to play my game, not yours, and I am here to win. Now I would recommend you sit back and prepare to lose your money.” She uttered so only he would hear her words which dripped with sensual yet sinister promise. She flashed him the look of a predator who found her prey interesting if not amusing which made it lucky enough to not be worth killing, yet.

Whatever the rest of their conversation might have been was cut short as Bloom took to calling the initiates to attention. Vex stood and cast Ghost one last dark and alluring glance, shared only between the two of them, before going to stand among the other initiates. She found herself standing not all too far away from Chris who she made eye contact with and granted a beautifully crafted warm smile. As they all began to listen to Bloom explain the testing situation for the day Vex watched as the names of the competing duos appeared on the board above them. Her features remained unfazed as she read Chris’s name beside hers. So she would be facing off against the young man she was currently working to recruit to Dr. Munro’s cause…interesting. Turning to meet Chris’s gaze again she chuckled and gave him a nod, “Don’t expect me to go easy on you.” She purred almost playfully with him, her attitude completely different from how she had been towards Ghost a few moments prior.

Thorn

Mood: Mixed

Location: Dining Area

Interactions: Aubrey

As he sat down across from Aubrey at the table Thorn watched her eat for a moment before looking down at his breakfast tray. A cup of fruit, some eggs, and a few French toast sticks stared back at him but like many meals in the past week, Thorn could not bring himself to start eating. Instead, he used his fork to push the food around and give the illusion that he was planning to take a bite or had already taken one. The thought of actually putting any food in his mouth just made his stomach roll and he felt that he wouldn’t be able to keep it down if he did. Instead, he just watched it and occasionally glanced up at Aubrey who seemed to also feel the awkward energy that brewed between the two of them. The last time they had spent any considerable amount of time together had been the day everything had gone to hell. He and Aubrey had placed Charlie and Ghost in incredible danger in a vain attempt to keep Charlie safe and to top it off Thorn’s mother had been killed in the fire that burned down his family's home. The thought left Thorn’s mouth feeling as though it were full of ashes and his throat burned from the effort it took not to make some sort of grief-filled noise of pain.

Thorn hadn’t really been expecting Aubrey to say anything so when she did start speaking it caused him to jump a bit in his seat. Her words were ones he had heard so many countless times over the past week from people who were beginning to blur together just as the words did. Everyone was so sorry, everyone thought it wasn’t fair for something like that to happen to such a nice woman. He hated it but part of him had started to become bitter at the sound of the words. You would have to be blind and deaf to know that his mother wasn’t going through hell despite how hard he tried to protect her, people were only sorry about it now that she was dead though, not all the times she almost died before. His bitterness never showed however as he pushed it away as fast as it came. He didn’t like feeling such horrible emotions, blaming people for something out of their control, and he certainly wouldn’t blame Aubrey. “Thanks…” The word came softly after a moment and he looked up from his eggs. “Thank you, Aubrey.” He clarified wanting to make sure she knew he had heard her kind words and taken them to heart. She had dealt with her own loss and grief over recent weeks and deserved to be treated with kindness.

“I uhhh…” He tried to think about what he had been doing the past week and for a few seconds, it felt like all the memories had left his mind. So much of his time had been spent hidden away from everyone and everything, trying not to let people see the pain and guilt and sorrow he felt with every fiber of his being. He hadn’t wanted to face others or put himself in a situation where he might lose himself completely. “I was at my forge.” He answered after a moment, the reply truthful. “I was working on a…a personal project.” Thorn’s voice choked a bit as he spoke and he cleared his throat to try and rid it of the emotion that had clawed its way in. He saw the glimmer of interest shine in the blonde’s eye as he spoke and he figured there was no harm in sharing with her at this point. He needed to force himself to find his voice again after all, to be able to hold a normal conversation rather than retreat into himself. “It is the replica of a sword I grew up hearing about from a fantasy story my mother told me.” He explained and took a sip of his water. “It is called The Sword of Truth.” He continued as he gently pushed his tray of uneaten breakfast to the side and rested his elbows on the table calmly. “What about you Aubrey? What have you been up to?” The young man inquired politely and hoped she had been doing well. He knew her life had been filled with great stress over the past few weeks and that they had only grown more and more as the days passed. “Have you had any luck finding Finn?” Thorn asked and hoped for a positive response from the blonde.

Rhysand(Rhys).

Rhysand had jogged over glad Randi had stopped he honestly wasn’t completely sure if she would or not. It had been quite some time since they had actually hung out or even talked with one another. A mishap that happened years ago had lead to them drifting apart while other things had helped to keep them separated in the process. Now though Rhysand was starting to realize just how stupid it was to try and stay apart from those you cared about. He didn’t want to just see Randi as someone floating around the edges of friendship with him no he wanted what they use to he close friends. Though if he was being honest with himself he wanted more than friendship at some point. He knew right now all he cared about was getting close again with her as a friend once that happened he could always push his courage of finally asking her out. It wasn’t that simple with Randi not like it was with other girls who he had dated off and on through the years. She was someone who was more special than just a late night romp in the sheets and he wanted to make sure he didn’t fuck things up once the time was right. His attention went back to her as she seemed to be avoiding the topic of what was going on with her current appearance that being the battered look from a fight. A slight flicker of irritation ran through him only because he felt like it was only due to their drift in friendship that she wasn’t instantly open with him. However he smoothly changed the topic to something else wanting to make her more comfortable. The ease in tension of her shoulders made him glad the change of topic had calmed her. Rhysand wanted to enjoy their talk not ruin it by bringing the mood down he couldn’t help but grin when she seemed to relax hearing his voice.

He couldn’t help but wonder if she had missed him any some of their late night talks from the past or just going around town causing trouble. “Honestly it was a little frightening seeing that happening to Shayla I wasn’t sure what was going on while in the simulation. Then once I woke up an saw she was also bleeding in real life it made me wonder if something had gone on with the testing.”he said honestly. “I think I definitely handled the situation better than most. I’m just glad I got checked out with the results being good.” He murmured as they continued on. “I wonder how she’s doing today it certainly hadn’t looked great when she was taken away.” He wondered out loud before continuing on. He grinned when she agreed to needing to go with him one night to get the drinks. “I remember I think you stole my slice of cake one year because it was your favorite.” He said with a laugh. He grinned having truly missed this man it would be great getting to spend time with her again. Then he heard the gentle tone as she wondered what the testing would be like today and saying she hoped his testing went a lot better. “Honestly I don’t think the testing could get much worse then one happened yesterday. Yeah I get we deal with our fears a such which can be terrible. However after seeing what happened with Shay and being powerless to help her it can’t get much worse than that.”he said running a hand through his hair . “I’m curious about who we will be going up against today. I know they said winners vs winners while also doing loser vs loser today so it’ll probably be more challenging today.” He said honestly wondering who they would be going up against. He entered the facility behind her noticing several people were already there which wasn’t surprising. Now it would be time to see who they were up against and continue his conversation with Randi while they waited for everything to get started.

Charlotte "Charlie" Stark || 20 || Medic || Dauntlessborn

Initiates began to make their way into the room as Charlie finished with what she was doing and began to fiddle with the machinery out of pure habit. She knew that everything was perfectly assembled, but somehow she didn't feel like doing nothing and just standing around. Her body was unusually filled with nervous energy that made her feel quite excited but anxious at the same time. She finally stopped however, not wanting to actually break something or anything of that sort. Breathing out a small sigh, Charlie removed herself from all of the equipment and made her way into the wider area where Bloom, Phillip and the oncoming initiates were settling. Her eyes settled on those who had arrived, noting Vex was bright and early, the lovely girl was always on time and had been doing extremely well in her tests, Charlie was certain that she would make a wonderful Dauntless member, how she managed to be so ruthless in training and lovely in person was always a mystery to Charlie, who could only do one of those things. Briony and Christian had made their way in also, and Charlie waited to see Blair follow them in, but to no avail. Nervous Nausea gnawed at her stomach as she remembered that Blair had also not remained for training yesterday. Had she also gone missing? This was getting terrifying. Was Jeremy involved? Was he torturing the innocent initiates because of Charlie? The very idea made Charlie go pale, and her happy and excited demeanour began to diminish slightly, but it soon returned when she saw Ghost enter the area, although he wasn't trying to be caught by anyone. Charlie smiled with delight, however she had a knowingly sad look about her also as she watched him go into his office, likely to clear out his belongings, after having spoken to Briony. The way Briony had acted with him caused a small flare of jealousy to spike within Charlie's being, but she shook her head to ignore it as she knew that Briony would have no way of knowing she was currently with Ghost, and Ghost didn't seem to reciprocate it at all. She did see Briony pass something to Ghost, but she was unsure of what it was, a phone number perhaps? She tried to ignore that thought as she watched Ghost enter his office, and Phillip beeline after him. Charlie wondered about whether Phillip knew Ghost? They were nearly the same age, from her memory Phillip had done the initiation right after her, same as Bloom, and then Ghost the year after that. So it wasn't unlikely that they had met, with Ghost having lived in Dauntless for the last two years, but she had never thought they would get along well together. She had been planning to pop in to Ghost's office to say hi, but after seeing Phillip duck inside it, she didn't want to get in the way of whatever they were doing, and so she turned and made her way over to Bloom.

Bloom, with Honey sitting happily beside her, greeted Charlie with the warmest of smiles. Charlie embraced Bloom with a short and quick hug, as Bloom had become one of the very few people with whom Charlie would ever embrace. After stepping away from Bloom, Charlie knelt down and happily gave Honey a warm hug also, lingering on her for a while longer. She knew Bloom was never offended by Charlie's physical affection, or lack thereof, as they had opened up to each other enough about their personal trauma's, and Bloom had always been supportive of Charlie's boundaries. Honey was a dog, and Charlie had only good memories of dogs, thus she was happy to give and receive a lot of physical affection from Honey, who was always gentle and loving to Charlie. "How are you Bloom? Are you excited to be in chare? And working with Phillip? Or has he given you a headache already?" Charlie said, receiving an almost shocked look from Bloom, Charlie didn't usually make jokes at the expense of others, even though both she and Bloom knew Phillip to be a lovely person and it was clearly a joke, it was unusual. After laughing, Bloom replied, and Charlie finished petting Honey and stood up. She listened happily to Bloom's voice, always feeling safe and secure around it, and fiddled with the material of her clothes. Of course, when Bloom turned the question around to her, and pointedly asked about her giddy appearance, Charlie couldn't help but giggle and blush. What would she tell Bloom? She trusted her with all of her soul, but at the same time they weren't alone, even if nobody was listening, there were initiates around, and Ghost and Phillip were only within his office. Yet all the same, Charlie felt like a small girl with a crush, and the desire to share with her best-friend was far too overpowering than the small anxieties that possessed her. "I'm good... I uh..." Charlie's blush only reddened and she giggled awkwardly, glancing at Ghost's office multiple times as she spoke with Bloom. "Last night we..." Charlie paused, as she was unsure of how to explain what it was that they had done without embarrassing herself, and also because she was trying to remember it all. She remembered it pleasantly, with many giggles and laughs, with touches and caresses, with kisses and hot breaths, with skin upon skin... It had been the closest thing to sex that she had done since her time with Caspian 4 years prior, and it had been the only time that she had consented to going that far with anyone. That was why she was so giddy, it was the fact she had wanted it, had gone through it and enjoyed it, and had gotten so close to having sex, but had frozen at the last moment. Charlie felt regret spike up in her chest as she remembered how Ghost had apologised and rolled over as if he had stabbed her. Guilt tore through her... Had she hurt him by freezing up in panic? She had been stuck in her own mind, a fight within her, half of her pleading for her to reciprocate what Ghost was doing, but the other half reminding her of the trauma that Caspian had put into her. Unfortunately Ghost had realized her frozen panic before the reasonable side of Charlie had won.... Charlie wished she could explain to him what it was like, how she felt paralyzed, not by the fear of Ghost or the things they were doing, but with what had happened in her life. She felt sick now, wanting to know what he thought of her, did he hate her for freezing up? She wasn't mad with him, she wasn't even scared of him, none of that night had been traumatizing for her... Yet he had apologized... so he thought he had done her wrong? As Charlie stood there thinking this through, she met eyes with Bloom, who equally looked very curious and proud, and also concerned on why Charlie had stopped mid sentence.

"We didn't... you know.." Charlie said with a small laugh, "But we got pretty close." She finished with a blush, and knew Bloom would understand how much that meant. Charlie wasn't one to speak about sex or anything like that, but she and Bloom had spoken about sexual trauma before, and Bloom had always been supportive of Charlie's choice to not desire or get close to intimacy at all, but also she knew that this meant progress for the gentle medic. "I... I think I panicked in the end, froze up... I feel stupid now about it, it's not like I was in danger or didn't want anything that was happening..." Charlie trailed off very quietly, and began to nervously twirl her hair around her fingers, pulling it tighter with each curl. "He was so sweet and apologized and we just went to sleep after that, but I feel like I should have been better..." Charlie said, and Bloom must have heard the self-attack in Charlie's voice, because she gently touched her arm, looking her in the eyes, and Charlie smiled as Bloom reminded her that the responses to Trauma were not Charlie's fault, and this was definitely something to be proud of in her progress, and also Bloom seemed excited simply to hear news about how happy Charlie was. "I'm not oversharing am I? I just..." Charlie wasn't sure why she felt nervous now of all times, but Bloom quickly assured her that she was fine. Charlie sighed softly in response, happy that that part of the conversation was now exhausted. "I hope you're as happy as I am that Phillip is here! He and Honey bring such a lovely amount of energy and joy into everything, I'm hoping it can bring the mood of this initiation up a bit more." Charlie said, as she thought about all the people who had gone missing, the terrible murders, the other trainers who had either died or been injured or simply left for no reason... This was by far the strangest and worst initiation Charlie had ever seen, Alice had been a rarity in her initiation, nobody else had died like that, or disappeared. People had failed, and people like Charlie had been beaten near to death, but there wasn't disappearances or murders galore, and all the trainers had remained the same all the way through. This was an unusual initiation, and Charlie wished she knew more about why.

Aubrey Stark || 16 || Initiate || Dauntlessborn

As she watched and listened to Thorn, she immediately regretted having said anything at all. It had been a week, and Aubrey hadn't spoken a word to Thorn in condolences or even in kindness. To do so now was degrading, and she wished she had not said anything. She heard the pain in his voice, she heard how he said thank you but also she heard how he wished he didn't have to say it at all. It wasn't like she could take it back now, but she simply let him be, hoping that maybe he did care, that she cared, even if it was just a little. Aubrey began to lose her appetite as they spoke, as if the sadness in Thorn was reaching out and ripping away her desire for food. Her plate began to look like a plate of dead, and she eventually pushed it to the side so she could lean on one hand and sip at her drink. She listened, her eyes and ears perking up as she heard Thorn talk about his forge. She was reminded of how she had given him her knife, so that he could carve Caspian's name on it. When he finally mentioned that he was working on a personal project, a part of her was sad, but the other part was even more intrigued. Before she could ask what it was, Thorn enlightened her, and she listened as he explained that it was a sword from a story book. Aubrey nodded at this. "That's cool, you'll have to show it to me sometime, it sounds sick." She said with a small smile. Of course, after Thorn had finished speaking about himself, what had obviously been painful and frustrating to do, he turned the question on her, and after asking her what she had been up to, he followed it through wit directly asking whether she had found anything more to do with Finn's disappearance. Aubrey sighed, glad she had already lost her appetite, as now she actually felt sick and had more desires to remove the food within her, rather than put more inside. "No." She said plainly, frustration clear in her voice, and her teeth gritted together. Her fist was clenched. "It's like he was abducted by f*cking aliens." She said, anger prickling her voice for a second, before sadness ripped at the end of her sentence, causing it to wobble with emotion for a moment. She pressed her clenched fist to the table, using the pressure to ground herself. "I use most of my time looking for him, or trailing Ghost, Charlie or both of them." She said openly. She didn't look up at Thorn, not wanting to meet his gaze or see what he was thinking. She knew that she had f*cked up in what she did with Charlie and Ghost. She knew it was all her fault, and she was nearing a precipice of outright suicidal risk-taking at this moment. She was going to some of the most dangerous areas searching for Finn, almost hoping that she would get beaten up, attacked or had an opportunity to bust some heads. The bruises and cuts that were starting to litter her body were from those exact times, she was surprised she hadn't lost an eye or limb, and that she hadn't picked up some nasty infection or disease. She took this as a sign that she was getting closer, or at least wasn't getting further away.

Following Ghost and Charlie around hadn't yet done anything bad to Aubrey, in fact it was improving her ability to track and remain mostly unseen. She knew they couldn't do anything to stop her, so she wasn't too fussed about being seen, but she preferred not having to interact with them, even if it was by sight only. The most dangerous thing she was doing at the moment was the excessive drinking. Almost every night she drank herself asleep, and if she didn't do that she stayed up all night looking for Finn. Both of these things were unhealthy, and Aubrey didn't care. She had begun to have frequent nose bleeds and shortness of breath, her heart would beat sporadically and even seemed to stop for moments that inwardly felt like days, she always awoke to vomiting up her stomach's contents, and she was depressed. She knew that some people were looking out for her, she didn't care who they were, and didn't want to know. She knew because she would pass out at a bar, and awake in her dorm, or at least in a booth with a jacket or blanket put on top of her. Someone cared about her still, and Aubrey didn't want to know who it was because she didn't want to think about the fact that she was disappointing yet another person. She had a long list already. Aubrey was brought back out of her thoughts as Thorn mentioned that they should make their way to training. "True." Aubrey agreed, as she picked up her half eaten plate of food and dumped the uneaten contents into the bin. She could see that Thorn had done the same, and it wasn't hard to tell that Thorn was not eating properly, she had noticed that his weight had dropped, and he wasn't looking as healthy as he used to. It was a pity, as Thorn was such a nice looking boy. They walked together in near silence, nothing being spoken but merely footsteps, background noise and their breathing could be heard. It was heavily awkward, but at the same time it was good. They knew what each was suffering with. Thorn was suffering with his mother's death, Aubrey was suffering with the knowledge she had screwed her sister's life up forever, and had lost her best friend. She could still remember it clearly, the night she spent with Finn, then waking to the sound of rain on the concrete, expecting to turn over on the uncomfortable piece of cardboard and find him beside her, only to find a pile of his clothes, and him gone. That's how she knew someone had taken him. Finn would have gotten dressed if he was going to leave, and yet his clothes had been left there beside hers. She still had them, she had tucked them away in her bedroom at home. They reminded her of yet another life that she had possibly screwed over. As they neared the training centre, Aubrey came to a stop, something pushing within her to say something to Thorn before they entered that room and begun their day for real. "Do you drink?" She asked Thorn, turning to him. From his reaction to her question, Aubrey could safely guess that the answer was no. Aubrey sighed. "Smoke?" She asked, again she presumed the answer was no. "Well aren't you a fun date." She joked lamely, a small smile tugging at her lips. "Fine, do you want to go ride the train sometime? We can just sit on the end car and watch the world go by." She left the question unanswered, hoping that Thorn would say yes, but not waiting for his answer, she turned and entered the training area.

They weren't the first, nor were they the last one's entering the area. Aubrey scanned the room, her eyes on the lookout for anything and anyone unusual. The first person she sought out was Charlie, and she was relieved to see her older sister was already here, and seemed safe, well and actually happy. Aubrey felt warmth within her as she looked at her. She didn't see Ghost, but that wasn't unusual, as he had been fired, however Aubrey was to be surprised as Ghost exited his office soon after she got in there, and she could note him down as being safe as well. He sat beside Vex of all people, and she wondered what he was doing here. At least they're both here, so I can keep an eye on them. She thought to herself. Again there was no Finn, not like she expected him to be here. Christian was here, Bloom was here, Phillip and Honey were here. That's when her eyes alighted upon Briony. "Bri!" Aubrey said with glee, as her eyes met her bestfriend. She glanced at Thorn. "I'll hopefully see you later." She said in ways of goodbye, and rushed over to Briony. As she walked over, she continued scanning the room, expecting to see Blair somewhere, but not seeing her anywhere. She knew Briony had been looking for her at some point in the last day or two, as she had received a message asking whether she had seen Blair, to which Aubrey had said no, but not seeing her here sent warning signals off in Aubrey's mind. Once she got to Briony, they shared a quick hug before standing next to each other warmly. "Blair still hasn't turned up? Sh*t" Aubrey swore, another person she would have to keep an eye out for. She looked over at Chris, about to ask Briony whether Chris had known anything, when she felt an icy cold shiver go down her spine as she looked at the person standing next to Chris. "Is that.... Shayla?" Aubrey said in shock and horror. The girl standing beside Chris hardly resembled her ex-bestfriend, as this girl was thin, shakey, pale as a ghost, hair oily and falling limply on her head, dark circles and terrible complexion, and looked like death walking. All hatred for Shay was gone in that moment, and Aubrey felt a deep sadness in her, as she yearned to reach out, but remembered that Shay had pushed her away. Suddenly within her there was a war, sadness and desire to help fought with anger and betrayal. Neither war won, and Aubrey simply stood there with Briony, both of them staring at Shay with mixed emotions. Shaking her head and turning away, she continued with her thoughts from before she saw Shayla. "What I was going to say is asking whether Chris knew anything?" Aubrey asked, but got a quick no from Briony. Aubrey sighed. Briony asked her about Finn, and Aubrey shook her head. "Nothing." She replied, "I've found nothing." She continued. The two girls stood together, leaning on each other as they stood there. "We need to catch up so badly, drinks later?" Aubrey asked.

Randi

Mood: Complicated

Location: Streets / Testing Center

Interactions: Rhys

It was honestly weird talking to Rhys so casually again after so long. Randi wasn’t one to hold onto people who didn’t want to be held onto because she knew how restricting and damaging that could be on both sides, a lesson partially learned from the young man before her. She had learned long ago to listen to the wise words of those who came before her and to know that people were like trees. Some were leaves, only there for a season then gone forever. Some were branches, stable enough but should never be put under too much pressure or they might just disappear. And then there were those who were roots, there for good and not going anywhere because they will always have your back and keep you strong. Poppy and Blair were her roots, they always had been for as long as Randi could remember and there was a time Randi thought Rhys might be too. Unfortunately, she had learned that Rhys was more like a branch or a leaf, she didn’t hold it against him, or at least she tried not to, but it did make her hesitant to want to lean on him, especially now. They had drifted apart for reasons and Randi didn’t want often find herself able to trust those who had lied to her in the past, no matter how good the intention of the lie had been. She knew deep down that Rhys had never meant to cause her hurt through his actions but the blonde still could never forget how betrayed she had felt upon learning the truth. Now, as she stood before him with Rhys talking so casually and openly it gave her pause, he seemed so genuine with her in a moment when she needed it most. She wanted to believe it was real, that he truly was trying to restore an ounce of what they once shared, but she was still unsure.

Rhys seemed to be truly wanting to just talk and seeing as they were going the same way Randi didn’t see a reason to try and shut him down. He had been through a lot the day before, they both had but his had taken place during training so she knew he might be nervous about the day's upcoming test. She couldn’t imagine how it must have felt for him to see someone in such a horrific situation while confined in a simulation only to awaken and find the horror bleeding into reality as well. The situation with Shayla yesterday had seemed dire and Randi wasn’t sure if they would be seeing the dark-haired girl again anytime soon. “I can only imagine.” Randi shook her head as she recalled the events. “I would think if it was a sensitivity to the serum the side effects would have presented themselves earlier in initiation…ya know? There must be more going on since the rest of us were just fine.” She pieced it together though she still had several factors missing that kept her from knowing the full story. She was glad that Rhys had been checked out and given the okay to return to training. From what she had heard others didn’t know if he would have an adverse reaction later in the night if at all. “Do you think she will be back today?” Her voice was surprisingly soft as she asked, genuine concern shining through for the girl who had made herself a stranger to almost everyone. “I mean if she misses training they won’t make acceptions for her, they haven’t in the past. Her score will plummet and she…she won’t make it.” Randi sighed and looked at the pavement they were walking along, examining the cracks before her with an intense mint gaze as she felt worry rising in her gut for Shay. “I don’t think anyone ever imagined a Darkholme being factionless.” She breathed and recalled how prestigious the Darkholme family was within Dauntless, especially with their ties to Erudite.

Rhy’s attempt to lighten the mood was noted by Randi and she gave him a small smile and a nudge of acknowledgment. “I’ve always been good at taking what I like.” She chuckled when he brought up the cake. “I am a bitch after all.” She added, her voice and posture showing that she wore the title with pride. Reaching into her pocket she pulled out two lollipops and offered one to Rhy’s. “Here, maybe this will bring us both some good luck for today’s testing. Depending on who we go against we will definitely need it.” As she spoke the two of them entered the testing center where several other initiates were already waiting. It was clear that the attention of the others was drawn towards the board at the top of the wall and as Randi followed the gaze of her fellow initiates she saw the roster for the day's test blinking brightly so all could see. “Well, looks like you aren’t rid of me yet.” She stated as she saw her name next to Rhy’s.

Chris briefly, Phillip & Aubrey Nerdy. Nerdy.

Briony had nodded some understanding what Chris meant about having already experienced one of his fears in real life. She knew that him having hurt Blair had been something he’d been afraid of happening it wasn’t surprising since his anger use to rule over him. A blonde eyebrow raised when he said he was gonna head over to Shayla. She just nodded some waving goodbye before looking at her phone needing to send someone a quick message. Briony bit her lip lightly wanting to head over to Phillip however she couldn’t risk her nerves rocketing up before the testing. So texting him would be the best option in this moment. “Hey, it’s been awhile I was wondering if you wanted to hang out again soon.” she sent before debating on what else to say. She did miss him the two of them had a great time together it was just unfortunate that her fear of dogs kept them away. It had been a rough situation for the both of them with Phillip needing Honey which she understood and her fear of dogs making it hard to be around Honey. They had made it work for awhile before it just couldn’t keep going on there ways of trying to be together just not working out the way they’d hoped. So with those thoughts in her mind she sent another text to him. “I’ve missed you and I also bought some stuff for Honey. I saw it in a store the other day and couldn’t help but think of her. I was also wondering if you could do me a favor, but I’d rather talk to you in person about it. So maybe we could meet up some time this week?” she sent before feeling eyes on her a moment later. She looked up seeing Phillip looking her way with his usual playful grin though she could also see some slight concern. She figured he must think something was wrong for her to ask him for a favor. It definitely wasn’t like her to ask anyone for help and lately she seemed to be doing a lot of that. However her asking for help lately was because of Blair that made it more understandable as everyone knew she would do anything for Blair. She looked at her phone seeing him typing up his replies to her however a familiar voice caught her attention.

“Aubrey!”Briony said happily she was so glad to see her having not had the time lately for them to hang out like usual. The two hugging happily yet briefly before Aubrey was saying something about Blair. “Yeah she hasn’t shown up she hasn’t been shown up at home. I’m not sure where she’s at right now.” She said quietly to her not wanting for just anyone to hear them. She then followed her friends gaze seeing it land on Chris her own gaze staying on him for a few seconds longer than usual before moving over to Shayla. Briony never had anything against Shayla considering she didn’t even know the girl however the odd feeling in her gut seeing Chris standing so close with her made a flare of anger bloom within. “Yes though I’m surprised she’s here. She looks like absolute shit I wonder if the instructors will even let her test.” She said calmly. When she really looked Shayla over she almost hoped the girl would be taken away not because of the flicker of jealousy but the fact Shayla literally looked like she was on deaths door at the moment. The two of them continuing watching Shayla and Chris for a little longer before the question was asked about Chris. “No he’s not heard from her either. Chris and I plan on searching for her more later or at least trying to let one another know any new information.” She said with a sigh. Then thinking of missing people she remembered Finn. “Have you seen or heard from Finn?” She asked letting her gaze fall on Aubrey. A frown appeared on her face when her friend said no there was nothing not even a small crumb of information on where he might be. “Don’t worry we will find him and Blair. I’ll keep an eye out on any leads with Finn while looking for Blair.” She said. “Oh god yes please we need some drinks soon or I’m gonna die I swear.” Briony said with a small laugh. “I know I’ll be busy pretty much most of today after testing. How about tomorrow for drinks? There’s a few things I wanna tell you.” She said really wanting to tell Aubrey some of the things that we’re currently running around in her mind.

Aya.

Aya was still thinking about everything Cas had told her while they walked with Griffon to meet up with Fable. Their flow of conversation was easy and was just about anything since they didn’t want to leave Griffon out of the loop. It was unfortunate that his hearing aid batteries had died it must be really rough not able to join in fully with them. So once at the place it was a relief when he was give the batteries by Fable. The lot of them making small talk then the topic landed on their tattoos and how they were feeling. “It still stings a bit though it looks much better then yesterday.” She said not able to show them the results today as she had wore baggy sweat pants. She wasn’t sure what kind of testing would take place today so she wanted the tattoo covered as to not get anything into it. “I’m looking forward to showing you guys once it’s fully healed up!”she said brightly. The colors of the tattoos stood out lovely against Aya’s milky white skin so once it was healed it would look absolutely stunning. Plus the design being a mix of her own art work and Griffon’s is what mattered most to her. Her gaze flicking over to Griffon smiling warmly at him seeing him watching her as she told them about her tattoo. Then they all looked towards Cas as she told them how hers felt and over to Griffon when he explained his. Cas seemed to become absorbed in her phone which didn’t bother them. Aya was use to Cas getting into a zone every now and then besides she was listening to Fable. She nodded some glad everyone’s tattoos seemed to be doing well which was great news. “Oh I’m really not sure what todays testing will be like. I figure it’ll be our own fears today? Since I’m pretty sure that makes it harder on us having to face things we fear.” She commented. Then Cas had spoken up about the winners going against winners and same with the losers. She smiled softly at Griffon. “Even if we get put together as rivals make sure to do your best.” She told him. She didn’t want to lose however she didn’t want Griffon to lose either. This place was much too rough if you lost as you would become faction less something none of them wanted. Her gaze flicking to Cas only when she got up saying she had somewhere to run real quick. A slightly concerned look appeared on her face. “Ok just be careful.” She said earning a grin from Cas.

Once Cas had headed off Griffon had quickly jumped in about Cas probably beating them there. It was probably to not cause them any worry which she appreciated. “Oh thank you.” She said when he grabbed her stuff. Though she noticed him looking momentarily surprised as if maybe she had shocked him? However before she could comment on it he was saying something about if there was anything else they needed to do before heading out. “I’m ready to head out if you guys are?” She stated since they really did need to get there. Shifting her bag on her shoulder thoughts about Griffon’s scars came to her mind once more. Though with Fable with them there was no chance of asking if the information had been true from him. Since Cas had admired earlier to lying partially about the scars which Aya was grateful that her friend came clean about not being fully honest. This also lead her to thinking about what else Cas had said about Griffon having feelings for her. A blush painted her cheeks so she quickly busied herself looking in her bad while she waited for the others to decide if they were heading out or not. It didn’t take much longer before they were all in agreement about heading out. So with Griffon’s hearing aids working now he was able to join in on their conversation this time. It was nice just chatting with them as they headed into the place. Once inside she instantly looked towards the display seeing who her opponent would be this time around.

Fable

Mood: In Thought

Location: Coffee Shop, Testing Center

Interactions: Griffon, Cas, Aya, Chris

As the small group sat around the table tucked into the corner nook of the cafe Fable did her best to pay attention to the conversation while also checking her phone to see if Chris had gotten her text. When he replied saying that he didn’t need a coffee but would love to get a drink later she smiled a bit but didn’t let it go too far. Right after training, she had hoped to find Ghost and talk to him about…well about the inevitable conversation but depending on how that went she felt she would be willing to grab drinks with Chris after. Might have plans right after training, how about tonight? Be there in a 15 or less. She replied and bravely sent a smiley face emoji along with it, hoping he would read it as a genuine offer and her not trying to dodge him. She truly did want to hang out later that evening if he was available, they hadn’t spent much time together but she already felt that he was someone she could easily get along with if given the opportunity. It was odd how their first major interaction together had been a fight, well not a real fight but rather the free for all they had done. That day of training had felt like forever ago but Fable didn’t forget how encouraging Chris had been afterward, not bitter about losing to her and she enjoyed the conversation that had stemmed from the interaction. So much had changed since then and Fable wanted to make sure he was okay.

Putting her phone down Fable tuned back into the conversation and listened as the others answered her question about their tattoos. She cast Cas a glance that held some sympathy for how she was feeling. While this tattoo was healing nicely her first tattoo had taken a few days to stop feeling like a bad sunburn someone kept slapping over and over again. She wasn’t sure if it was the same pain or not but Fable hoped the healing process became a swift one for the former Erudite. “I think it was smart to invest in that ointment they offered, it definitely helped mine to stop hurting as much.” She spoke up as her fingers gently traced the spot under her ripped dark jeans where the tattoo lay covered by a bandage. “Though it probably would have been wise to wear shorts today.” She admitted with a slight chuckle at her own stupidity. “That would be just like me to choose fashion over comfort.” Her voice was light and clearly rang with a playful tone as she spoke to the small group. It was a bit awkward each time she hung out with them but she did her best to fit in. She had Griffon there so that helped for sure, but if it was just Aya, Cas, and her she didn’t know how she would fair. The two other girls had so much history with one another that no matter how hard she tried Fable always felt like she was the awkward third or fourth wheel. She would of course never say that out loud and risk offending anyone or making Griffon feel badly about having both of his sisters with him.

When the conversation pivoted to the testing from yesterday Fable narrowed her gaze and remembered how close the competition between Aubrey and herself had been. “Yeah, I won.” She replied simply when Cas asked her about it. She had hoped to do better than just winning by a fraction of a seconds but Aubrey had been a hard one to beat. Honestly, she knew it was a miracle that she had thought to slide before the blonde did and while she was grateful for the win it didn’t feel like a true victory. Still, she would happily take the points if it meant securing her spot in Dauntless, something she hoped would happen for many others but knew would only be allowed to a limited few. More than anything Fable wanted Griffon to stay with her, if he were to fail out of Dauntless initiation she didn’t know what she would do but part of her knew she would never let him go off on his own. He had been there for her when no one else had, that was something she could never forget and so as much as she knew she wanted to be part of Dauntless she would risk being Factionless to stay with Griffon. He would hate to hear her say that so she never made it known verbally but she hoped he knew how deep her loyalty to him was. Wrapping up their breakfast Fable nodded to Cas as the young woman paid her back for their food and parted ways from the group. Together she, Griffon, and Aya left the cafe and began to make their way towards the testing center. As they entered the building she heard Griffon’s offer to train and tilted her head to look at him and asked, “Could I invite Chris to come too? I mean we are all gonna be at the testing center.” The slight flicker of a light caught her eye though before she heard Griffon’s answer and she noticed the board was already showing them who they would be facing in the day’s test. Oh shit.
