Fantasy Derika: Land of the Gifted

Ahhh that was refreshing...

Been far too long since my characters have killed. And the acid--what horrifying pain that must have been. Interesting that Liam would use it when it was used against him, or maybe it's precisely because it was used against him that he uses it...

Too bad they couldn't bring a soldier back for "interrogation"

Well, there are the mindlost soldiers near the base, but somehow I feel that others nearby would complain.

I plan on Alice getting in on some bloodshed too. Too bad her combat capability was spoiled a bit through that request. It's fantastic because it's like "Well she can only fly with her Gift" and then... kek.

...Oops. Totally forgot this thing existed for about a week. The rest of the time I've been not here has come down to trying to figure out what my character's power would be. I've finally decided on a power and will have the form up soon...I think. I must also read what's been happening since I've been non-existent.

It's cool, as for what's going on.. All you need to know is the first actual IC post, the plot post, and any posts mentioning the battle.

At this rate, I might just use GM powers and move everyone's characters to the battlefield, put them in groups, and let them know what to do. Or something.

Could we get some sort of... (@Mattie) Request board style scenario list describing some sort of engagements faction members could partake in?

Like listing out "In this specific area of the forest there are these ETG agents with these specific Gifts, and X amount of ETG grunts are backing them up."

This would make it easier to write up some scene helping out the factions by fighting ETG. Could even go further and have other non-combat related situations, since we have a handful of characters that don't have... combat oriented Gifts.

Lí and Xzyckxse, ironically my characters closest to danger, are both scheduled to sit out a large portion, if not the entire war, in favor of meeting each other that they may advance their own progression.

Ceft, Valen and Iradia aren't part of the factions. None of them have any motivation to attend, except Iradia, and only after the war is already mostly done to scrounge for corpses. Speaking of which, if anyone wants to die and come back as one of Iradia's zombies (fully sentient, notably) you can PM me your plans to do so.

Kitan needs a partner, who, in the absence of another player character, needs to wait for "Kaz". Kaz still needs a lot of work, and I'm not sure where he would end up dragging people even with an ally. His ability is particularly suited to messing with the ETG encampment and Miles themselves.

In other news, UMvC3 has gotten me interested with Marvel's power grids...

So I know I haven't been very active lately, and that's due to college ending soon and dealing with exams, papers, projects, and all that wonderful stuff. I won't be very free until the first Saturday of May, but I have tasked my mods *cough* @Mattie @Ryik *cough* with creating plot-related missions so hopefully the RP won't be completely dead during this whole time.

Oh, and perhaps this wasn't clear--but feel free to fool around with your characters and in general have fun. This world is pretty much a sandbox. You don't /have/ to participate in plot or the Factions. Normal, city life with a mix of fantasy is an option. Or crime.

I thought that was your job.

While we're talking about getting people active, those lost jewels aren't going to retrieve themselves.

ETG Forest of Death

Difficulty Level: Hard/Very Hard?

Description: People keep being assassinated in the forest to the North of the road to the crystal encampment. It may just be a distraction, but if the ETG amassed a significant force there, it's worth investigating. If it's just one or a couple ETG, clear them out. If there's a large amount of ETG, report back on what we're dealing with.

Be very careful you not to get assassinated yourself.

Party Limit: 3

I think we should back off of hard/very hard stuff and aim for medium and hard at most, considering the precedent set for very hard requests. Also @WitchOfTape @Mercuryrose , knowing what Ryik has planned, I think it's nearly impossible to complete so you could theoretically ditch it in the middle in favor of plot stuff-- if you want.

lmao

It really only has that difficulty because there's a chance the player character could be assassinated themselves, in which case they would die before even knowing what hit them.

Obviously, this means it's a quest well-suited to those that can resist an assassination. I dunno. It's just another quest of my retired characters anyway.

There's got to be a quest for raw firepower to be used to break the barrier, but that can only come after clearing the path. We could just put that quest out now, but putting it out alone seems unfitting.

Also, @WitchOfTape / @Mercuryrose that's honestly not bad advice. Those jewels are a piece of work they are.

Well there is the slight problem of Lesley now being without a z-watch. And Jupi hasn't been on in a long time. So I don't know what to do

If she hasn't been on for a while, you can rift Melanie, which would give an excuse for Lesley to give up on the request. Then she could re-obtain a Z-Watch and recognize that there's something major going on.

They are literally handed out at the gates to Brinkhaven. You could go to the HQ, the gates, hell, you could even go to the police to get the stolen one tracked down.

Cough.

You know who did not know that

me

also are we gonna try to edit this in a doc and post it or something? wat do

Your choice. One of us would be going through the posts hitting reply on each one, then editing the whole thing together either way.

Highlight/copy/paste is another option, if you don't mind the formatting issues.

I meant editing out the quote tags and editing the posts together for something more seemless, but I guess that's fine too lol

Looking at my schedule for the next 3 weeks or so, it looks like I'm not as free as I thought I was. I'm not sure exactly how much time I'll be able to devote to Derika, so depending on what I can squeeze out of the time I have--Derika may or may not go on a hiatus. (Or, if it can operate self-sufficiently by then, it'll still be up and I'll just check on things to make sure it's running smoothly.)

I deeply apologize for making this RP rely a lot on mods and being too busy with other things to make it work. And for not living up to the initial hype coming in. That being said, I do wish for this RP to succeed and will be continuing to try my best.

Related to plot stuff, what I have in mind so far is:

1) Offensive teams (consisting of 2-3 offense, 1 protection (physical), 1 mobility Gifted) that seek out ETG squads and eliminate them, reducing their forces-- a hit and run so to speak.

2) Defensive teams (2-3 defense, 1 buffer, 1 mobility/utility Gifted) that draw the ETG's attention, forcing them to send resources to deal with them. Basically tying up their forces as long as possible.

You'll probably work in a conjunction with another NPC or RPer group since more people means that they'll draw more attention. Just be careful with this because too big of a group would be difficult to collaborate with.

3) Assassination. Individuals that have enough survivability, stealth, and offensive power to kill important individuals. There are several targets: the teleporter that's bringing in more people if necessary, the drillers (powerful offensive Gifted or non-Gifted operating the drills), and the two? barrier creators (one is creating the stone walls and the other is maintaining a purely Gifted barrier) I don't remember if there are more than that or other targets. @Mattie

4) Specialized squad(s) to deal with the barrier and/or the barrier Gifted. The assassinations on them may fail, since they'd be heavily guarded. If you think your character can deal with the barrier, feel free to try. As long as it's done in a reasonable way, it's valid. Just don't shenanigan a nuclear air strike in or something like that.

5) Reconnaissance of what's inside the barrier. Same requirements as assassination, minus the offensive power. Stealth and survivability/mobility are key here. I'm leaving it up to @Mattie for the meta information that your character will find and report back to the Factions's base.

6) Still working on what Gifted can do that are closer to the average human.

In terms of mental protection, let's just assume that your character and any enemies have it--to the extent where none of them can be mind controlled or mind read to divulge important information. This is so that any offensive mental Gifted on both sides aren't basically useless. ETG squads are either in a group of 4 non-Gifted or 8-10 non-Gifted and 2 Gifted (1 offensive, 1 buffer). Feel free to make up NPCs that fulfill roles that you're missing. NPCs have more lax requirements and you don't necessarily have to include obvious or crippling weaknesses. Teaming up with other RPers would be nice though.

If you feel that you can RP this now with the information given--go for it.

If you have any ideas that you think would be cool, just let me know and I'll see what I can do about it.

This RP is officially on hiatus. I don't have the time to juggle this and summer stuff at the same time. Tfw you're busier in the summer than college.

As for an estimated time for a reboot-- I'm thinking August or until after the semester starts so I can gauge how much free time I have to work on Derika. Adjustments will likely be made in regards to power levels (bullets > Gifted make Gifted essentially special effects in the face of modern technology) and other improvements. Either way, when I have the time I'll be taking a good look at Derika to fix some of its current problems.

Thank you to those that have stuck around, and I hope to see all of you guys in the reboot!
