Defending the Land ~ NotAllThatCreative + xXMissChiefXx

Clarice stopped when she noticed the soldiers and she glared towards them. This couldn't be good. She crossed her arms tightly and didn't move from her spot behind the forest line. Nothing good could come about this situation and she wasn't about to cross the forest line, up to the house. She was half tempted to turn around and bolt the other way but since she didn't have a horse, she didn't doubt that they could catch her before she could even get close to reaching the bottom of the hill.

--

(Alright xD )

Cedric dozed off as well, his head bowed and he was quiet, the only sound from him was his breathing.

(Sorry it's so short... Not sure what to post :/ lol)

(They're hiding in the house :P )

~~

When the morning came, Amber awoke in much discomfort. She hadn't slept in a very good position in from of the fire, and she found that a soldier had retied her hands before she'd gotten up. When she looked at the binds, she looked around the army, and one of them caught her eye. He gave her a knowing look, and she scoffed in annoyance. She sighed and stood up, stretching out the best she could from her uncomfortable position.

(With the way you typed it, it sounded as if they were outside xD I'll fix it)

Clarice looked around quietly, looking for any soldiers. She didn't see any and stepped out of the forest. Quietly going up to the house, pulled out her key and unlocked the door before stepping inside, closing the door behind her with a sigh.

--

Cedric was gone along with a few other soldiers. The four were out scouting the area and making sure that Clarice wasn't hiding in the forest. They looked high and low, even checking the oddest of places. Once they found nothing, they started to walk back to camp and knew that it was going to be time to leave so they needed to start taking the camp down with everyone else.

(Sorry about that!)

From behind her, two of the soldiers grabbed her arms hurriedly, restraining her. The rest of them came out, and one of the soldiers tied her hands behind her back. "Clarice Gilmore, I'm sorry to tell you, but we're taking you to the king. Your sister was apprehended last night. She and the other soldiers are on their way there as well." Theodore told her calmly.

~~

Once the others had returned, Amber was shoved ahead in plain view so not to do anything tricky. She had thought of ideas, of course, but nothing that could actually work. She'd thought of feigning illness, but that wouldn't do her too well. She'd thought of sneaking off again, but that already proved useless. She felt that same anxiety again when she came to the conclusion that there was nothing she could really do at this point but walk alongside this army. Perhaps at the castle things would prove useful again, but for now, she felt helpless.

(It's fine :P )

Clarice didn't fight back and just balled her hands into fists. It wasn't that she couldn't fight back, she was just tired of running from them all the time so she felt no need to fight back. She held a calm expression on her face and shrugged indifferently. "The queen will also be there so I have no worries. Do what you want." She smirked slightly and hummed softly.

--

Once the camp was taken down, Cedric was at the front of the army and kept a close eye out for anything. He wasn't paying much attention to Amber and was more focused on watching for any suspicious that could be lurking in the shadows. Since this was the king's army, people would get greedy and attempt to rob them of various supplies so outlooks were needed no matter what.

Theodore couldn't help but smile at her boldness. "All right. Let's get going, than." He said. He opened the door and the soldiers followed behind him, keeping Clarice in the center for good measure. Though Theodore didn't seem to think she'd try anything, the other soldiers weren't completely sold on that idea. Most of the soldiers kept a close eye on her.

~~

(Did you want to skip to when they get to the castle?)

(We can do that with both parts if you want :P )

Clarice's atmosphere was calm and relaxed. She made no attempts to escape or fight and just followed them quietly. Her eyes drifted around and she would glance between the soldiers every so often. Glancing up, she noticed that they were getting closer to the main palace and she relaxed more, knowing that her aunt was very close now. That meant that she was close to being freed from her bonds and would be able to relax for the first time in a very long time.

(If my internet goes out one more time...! D:<

Okay. Maybe we could say they met up and arrived together, for convenience? xD )

Amber looked to her sister and sighed as they made their way into the palace. She should have felt some comfort, but really, all she felt was anxious. She didn't know what they meant to do to her and her sister, and frankly, she was horrified to find out. She had an idea of what to do once inside, but

( xD I'm sorry! And sorry for late reply, took a shower :P

That's fine xD )

Clarice looked up once they entered the palace and spotted her aunt in the far corner of the room. The woman seemed anxious and she hurried over to her niece, looking at her with a soft frown before looking towards Theodore. "Can you please release her bonds?"

Cedric bowed his head in greeting towards the queen and then glanced towards Clarice. He recognized her instantly and smiled lightly, nodding towards her in greeting. He remembered seeing the girl during his few few years in the army when she visited her mother and he also remembered her practicing along side him. He always made sure to greet her whenever he saw her.

(My goodness!

:P

Haha, you're fine!)

Theodore nodded, undoing both the girls bonds. He stuffed the ropes in his satchel, Amber rubbing her wrists for relief. She wondered again, looking to the king and the queen, what they had in store for them. She was put at ease by the queens reaction, not feeling ver assured that they wouldn't be killed. But she still felt anxious.

(I'm just telling the truth xD )

The queen quickly pulled Clarice into a tight hug, earning a grunt of surprise from the girl, and pulled her off to the side. She gripped onto her niece's arm tightly and frowned, looking towards the girl. "What on earth have you been doing to get yourself into this much trouble?" She held a disapproving tone and glanced towards Amber before back at Clarice.

"I wasn't the one doing it, Maggie." Clarice answered truthfully and glanced towards her aunt before back at where the king was. "I pulled one prank on them and that's it. I ended up shooting a guy in the ass with an arrow." She snickered and rolled her eyes, earning a look of horror from the woman beside her. "He lived, Maggie! I wouldn't kill them." Trying to reassure the woman beside her, she went quiet and turned her eyes back to the king quietly.

(lol!)

Amber let out a small laugh at the mention of the arrow, but quickly covered her mouth. She didn't need to dig herself a deeper hole than she'd already dug. She glanced to the queen when she'd given her a disapproving look, but honestly, she hardly felt bad; she was protecting her home.

Theodore held back his chuckled very well to Clarices comment, awaiting the kings response to all of this.

(You can play the king if you want lol In every RP I play him in, he's always a big douche bag)

"I've done worse to Edmond and Mia." Clarice smirked in amusement and snickered when her aunt lightly slapped her arm. "What? It's true. I've sent Ed walking into so many walls that I've lost count." That earned her a sigh from her aunt. "Anya laughed when she seen the injury."

"That is because Anya has seen worse injuries and and I highly doubt that an arrow to someone's more sensitive area is serious. And your brother is blind! You should not be doing that to him!" Maggie gave her niece a stern glare and shook her head. She shushed the teenager beside her and went quiet, waiting to see what was going to happen now.

(Lol! All right! xD )

The king raised his hand. "That will be quite enough, I do believe." He said over the bickering. He looked over the faces in the room and it remained silent for a long moment. Amber stomach dropped in the silence as her nerves grew. "Amber and Clarice Gilmore," He began, "I understand that you two have made quite the task for my soldiers. Tricking them with your childish games, hiding in and abusing the power of the church. It was difficult to think of a fitting punishment, especially with my queens bias." He looked to the queen for a moment, "Though, with your reputation, there have been quite a few eyes out for you girls. I thought it only fair to marry you girls each to a soldier. The highest bidding ones. They will pay, and you will be their wives." He explained.

Ambers jaw dropped, and Theodores eyebrows shot up. He couldn't believe his ears. He wasn't sure what to make of it.

(I'm heading off to bed! I'll reply tomorrow :) Goodnight!)

(Well... I don't want to make their punishment worse! xD )

Cedric was confused and had no idea what the king was saying at first. Marriage? That seemed a bit... Unusual. He didn't move and didn't utter a sound as he stood there. Feeling shocked and a little nervous, he shifted lightly and glanced towards Clarice, knowing that she was probably ready to give the king an earful since she knew the man personally.

"Excuse me?" Clarice raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms tightly, walking over to stand in front of the king. "Out of all the fucking things you could think of, marriage was the first to come to your mind?!" To say that she was angry was an understatement. She was glaring at the king harshly. "I don't give two shits who you are. You could be a god and I'd tell you take that idea and shove it up your ass! There's no way in hell I'm getting married!"

Maggie was horrified once again and quickly walked over, tugging on her niece's arm. Clarice was known to get very foul mouthed, like her mother, when she was angry and the last thing the woman wanted was for the situation to get worse or for the punishment to become unbearable.

(Yes... Clarice is very foul mouthed at times lol

Night! :) )

"Sister! Language!" Amber whispered. No, it wasn't the fact that her sister had just utterly disrespected the king that bothered her, but her language. Amber thought over for a moment, shaking her head. No, this wouldn't happen. She'd find a way out. She was now known across Europe as one of the most cunning woman alive. It'd be a shame to let them down now.

The king glared at the girl and looked to one of the guards. "Perhaps a few nights in the dungeon before the bidding will give her time to think over these things?" When two guards came and gripped the girls arms, the king adverted his gaze back onto Clarice. "I would watch your tongue, girl. There are consequences for you behavior. This is the lesser punishment, and you will take it whether you want it or not. So perhaps you could take your attitude, and what was it you said? Shove it up your ass?" He condescended, before motioning for the guards to take her away.

"I could care less for my language!" Clarice snapped in anger and narrowed her eyes towards Amber before turning them towards the king. "Fuck the consequences. My mother's disrespected many people like you and yet, they could care less. You're just getting your panties in a knot because someone's bested you." She rolled her eyes and didn't bother to fight the guards.

"Let me take care of her attitude." Maggie intervened at that point and gripped onto one of her niece's hands, glancing towards her husband. "This is not the first time she has disrespected someone above her." She shook her head and let out a long sigh. No, this wasn't the first time Clarice's attitude got the best of her. It's happened so many times that Maggie lost count. "Her father and I can straighten her out. There is no need to send her to prison of all things."

The king arched an eyebrow. "And what would you do, than? I am the king, and I will not be disrespected in my own palace!" He growled, growing annoyed with all these women questioning his decisions. He was king, after all. This was no game, this was business, and he was tired of this not being taken seriously. Amber sighed and rolled her eyes at her sister, wondering if she'd ever learn to watch her mouth. She was growing quite irritated with her as well.

She understood her sister. The biggest difference she felt between them was the fact that Amber had learned that in this world, you had to play things passive aggressively. As a woman in this time, you must nod, smile and seem agreeable, and then just do what you want regardless of the mans or your own words.

"And I am the queen!" Maggie argued and kept her niece quiet by shooting her a glare before turning her gaze back towards the king. "What I say also goes so I will handle this child. Throwing her in prison will only make things worse." She let out a long sigh and gently tugged on her niece's arm before releasing it. "Come on, Clarice." Maggie's tone left no room for an argument and so she followed her aunt quietly, muttering something under her breath about stupid laws and how people take jokes all too seriously.

The king growled in annoyance before shooting a look to Cedric. "Take the other one the east wing room. We'll do bidding tomorrow." He ordered, pointing towards the east wing hall. Amber stood up, trying to decide what to do. Maybe she could feign illness and make her escape soon? She was putting the pieces together and trying to figure her way out.

"Theodore, go with my wife and make sure they're not up to any ridiculous nonsense." He spat out in annoyance. Theodore nodded and followed, giving an apologetic look to the girls. "I'm sorry. The king has ordered I come with you."

Cedric nodded in understanding and turned towards Amber. He motioned with his hand for her to follow and started to walk towards the eastern wing. He stuff his hands into his pockets and didn't seemed worried. There were maids, butlers, and guards everywhere. Should she attempt to escape, he highly doubted that she'd get very far.

"I have heard worse." Maggie smiled and glanced towards Theodore. "You can join us! I do not mind one bit." She shook her head and continued down the hall, practically dragging her niece with her. "We are just going to the library. Her father is there and so is my son."

Amber followed Cedric through the long hallways, observing the different halls and rooms, should she need to be familiar with it. She saw some of the maids coming through to light the torches, as it was beginning to grow dark. This gave her a bit of hope in her idea to escape tonight. Once they reached her room, she nodded to Cedric. "Thank you."

~~

Theodore nodded and smiled to the queen, following close behind. He wondered what they might do to discipline the girl, also beginning to wonder what kind of soldier she would wind up with. Part of him wanted to join in on the bidding to help her out a bit, but he was almost certain she would lose respect for him if he did so. He didn't want her to think he was some scummy man who had to pay for a woman; he wanted her to know that he respected her and wanted to help her out.

Cedric nodded and smiled lightly as if saying, "You're very welcome". He looked around and gave some sort of humming noise as he took in everything around him. Turning back to Amber, he gently nudged her inside and was silently telling to get some sleep because they had a big day tomorrow. He felt bad for the woman in front of him. Marriage was a big thing to a lot of people and if it wasn't with someone they loved, it could be quite miserable. The last thing he wanted was for one of the women to be miserable.

--

The two females went into the library and Maggie asked Theodore to close the door behind him. A five year old boy hurried over to Clarice and latched himself onto her, his little arms tight around her waist.

"Hey there, munchkin." Clarice grinned lightly and lifted him up, keeping a tight grip on him so he wouldn't feel insecure in her hold. "Driving uncle up the wall?"

The boy nodded and smiled brightly glancing towards the man on one of the couches in the room. "Of course he has..." Kasimir grumbled and pinched the bridge of his nose, sighing softly. "Here I thought your brother was bad."

"Oh hush." Maggie rolled her eyes and laughed softly, glancing towards her brother in amusement. "You were barely around your children! Clarice was the worst when she was younger." She teased lightly and glanced towards her niece before becoming serious. "But all that aside, you need to control your child, Kasimir." She turned towards her brother and gave him a firm look.

Amber nodded and went into the bedroom. She closed the door behind her, looking around the room. She rummaged through the drawers, but there was nothing of use. She wouldn't fake her sickness until later to avoid suspicion. Then she would knock out one of the nurses, take her gown, and escape. It was definitely a long shot, and she knew very well it probably wouldn't work. But she would regret not trying much more than she would not trying out a tactless attempt to escape.

She moved to look out her window, and heard some of the soldiers fighting. She recognized one one of them as the soldier she'd fooled to believing she was a nun, while the other was the one Clarice had shot an arrow at. The first looked up at her window and grinned, dragging his finger across his throat with a laugh. Amber gasped sharply and quickly shut the curtains. Oh, god... he's going to kill me! She sat in her bed to think, but it was useless. She was too frazzled. She was certain that her life now depended on her escaping.

~~

Theodore had no plans of actually involving himself in conversation. He was merely a spectator at this point. He smiled to the child and listened to the family speak. Even is they seemed to bicker a bit, it made him think of how he missed his family. All he had left was his little sister, and his father was nearing his days of passing. He decided not to think about it, and just listen.

Cedric wasn't sure what to do at that point and turned on his heels, walking down the hall. He went into his room and looked around quietly. It was simple and he was happy with it. Nodding to himself, he walked over to the bed and sat down. His back was to the door and reached down, taking his shoes off. Reaching back, he grabbed the quiver of arrows and pulled them up over his head, setting them down against the table beside the bed along with his bow. He looked around once again to make sure that nothing was out of place and he then laid down, attempting to relax himself to sleep so he could sit through tomorrow. He had this feeling that he'll need a lot of patience and energy tomorrow...

(Do you mind if I enter in one more character? She's sort of like an older sister to Clarice. Ares (Clarice's mother) adopted the girl but she's kind of special. I'm pulling a little bit of a mythical thing on her)

"Christopher, hush." Clarice gently shushed the child and glanced towards her father to see what he was going to suggest. Knowing the man, he was going to suggest that she go out to see with him and she didn't want to do that.

Kasimir looked thoughtful and shrugged lightly, looking towards his sister. "Have you tried her mother?"

"No." Maggie frowned lightly and shook her head, sighing softly. "Ares would've just been happy that Clarice stood up for herself and not punish her." It was Ares' fault for Clarice's behavior anyways. The woman taught her firstborn daughter to not take anything from anyone and to put up a fight where she could.

Kasimir nodded as he listened and glanced towards Clarice quietly. He wasn't sure what to do with the girl. She'd never learn her lesson, he learned that the hard way, and punishing her seemed useless. Crossing his arms and looking thoughtful, Kasimir sighed quietly and glanced towards his sister. "I will think of something..."
