Family: Lord Arthur Beckett (Father)
Born into English aristocracy has granted Claire access to the finer things in life and her father spared no penny when it came to his daughters image. The man seemed to be more concerned for her image rather than Claire as a person, well why would he? She's just his burden until she's married. This ideal had very much warped Claire's mind since she was a young girl which had brought her to resent her father which had put great strain on their relationship. Claire learned to be independent from a young age out of sheer stubbornness for not wanting to ask her father for any sort of help and till this day she still rarely talks to the man and prefers the company of her chamber maids who had essentially raised the girl after Lady Beckett passed away after giving life to Claire. A young girl growing up motherless did affect Claire, her chamber maids tried there best to fill the void but Claire always felt it, her father also never let her forget that she was the reason for her mothers death and from a young age Claire has carried this guilt around with her. The only positive thing Arthur Beckett ever did for his daughter was to send her to finishing school far into the English countryside, away from his toxic grasp Claire flourish into the beautiful and strong women she is today. Besides her etiquette lessons Claire was allowed to study geography, mathematics and the classics and she spent this time wisely as she knew her time to gain knowledge was so much shorter than man's.
Claire's first marriage proposal was made when she just turned 16, he was much older and had good status. Claire remembered begging her father to reject this proposal with all her heart and her father decided that this man was not wealthy enough and so the marriage proposal was rejected. This was the first time Claire truly felt helpless, her life was to be decided by men. She would never achieve personhood in their eyes all she is to men is property or currency used to bargain with and Claire vowed to herself that she would try her very best to never feel that helpless again but she did over and over again as more men made their proposals for her hand but each was rejected until that man made his proposal. A high ranking official had sent a letter from the New World, he boasted of his wealth, the town he commanded and the future wealth he would hold once he sifted the gold from the land. This pleased her father and so the very next week Claire found herself saying goodbye to her home, her friends and her country to move across the world for a man she didn't know. It was the worst thing that had happened in her life and she remembered that one night aboard the ship she tried to throw herself into the sea but she was stopped by the crew who were gaining money for her safe delivery to the new world. They arrived 3 months later and Claire was greeted by the man who was to be her husband and her already gave the young women chills, not only was he most likely in his late 30's he also walked with a certain arrogance in his step and Claire already knew she would hate it here.
Claire was wrong, she didn't hate the new world she hated the man who had brought her here. She settled into a temporary shelter as homes were still being built and of course her future husband boasted about their home would be the biggest of them all and how Claire would 'fill it with bouncing boys'. She'd rather throw herself from a cliff before bearing any of his children. The only solace Claire found from this living nightmare was the beauty of the New World, it wasn't like anything she'd ever seen and so she spent the majority of her days exploring and journaling her discoveries. She also had made only 1 friend from the settlement, a girl a few years younger than herself called Annabelle but Annabelle was a working girl and had work most days and so the girls would only get to go for accompanied evening strolls but they were another highlight of the day for Claire.
Claire Beckett is a strong women in a situation that is slowly breaking her spirit and she's not sure how much longer she can carry on like this.
