You know with 4xp per page, charms are easy to buy.
 
I may take it, as Arelean's not the most combat focused. A little boost might be nice :twisted:.
 
Mostly I wanted to keep the Windhands gemstone as Kestrel's 'thing'. I'm pretty sure that I'll be able to knock out enough damage as it is. :)

Oh bah oui, it's not like you had a familiar who could eat the rest of the group :lol:
Although it could help riding it and firing arrows.
 
You know, up until now I had planned on Arelean having a normal powerbow (or even just a Perfect Self Bow), but I just a whole bunch of ideas swarm my head at once so that's changed. I've also got his First Age Incarnation pretty much planned (you should be able to figure that out quite easily from the fanfic when I post it :twisted:).


But anyways, so the artifact. I'm thinking it's a Short Powerbow with a twist: it generates an aura of stability equivalent to that of Chaos-Repelling Pattern. Also, every projectile it fires generates this aura. I was thinking Artifact 4-ish, maybe adding in another minor power. Thoughts?

power works like this: 40 motes, affect an area of Essence x10 miles square on the specific day of the spell.

OK for the bow generating the aura, but I don't see the point of the projectile, would you care to explain ?
 
We going with only affects Battlefields and only one time a year? What is your final call sir? An any extra BP for such a creative weapon that inspired many? :D

Not to be a jerk or anything, but I wouldn't wholly trust only one inidividual's opinion on that to be solid, Ker'ion's not withstanding. I suggest taking it to the WW forums as well, because, to be honest, I think there are a few individuals there who have equal, if not better grasp of the mechanics.


Anyways, I think that dropping the Willpower and Health Level costs while keeping the mote costs in entireity seems a little awkward. Instead, I suggest proportionally lowering all of the costs to fit the new limits, say, 20m, 2wp, 2ahl?


It's obvious enough, but the motes are cut in half, WP is cut in half (rounded up), and AHL is cut in half (rounded down to balance the WP). If more preferable, rounding the other way would give you 20m, 1wp, and 3ahl.

In the First Age, the bow's primary function was not that of a weapon, but of a badge representing the character's backing by Yu-Shan as Heaven's Emissary to the locations beyond Creation. As the bow was meant to be a way for the Eclipse to pass the judgment of Creation and Heaven onto those denizens of locations beyond too unruly to act in accordance, the projectile generates the aura so as to protect the projectile in-flight so that judgment would be passed without interference.


The aura of Creation makes it much harder for, say, a Fair Folk Noble to shape the arrow into a feather, as using Glamour/Shaping Attacks in Creation is difficult to nigh-impossible. Also, this produces some fun effects once the arrow connects with a target, leaving a small, temporary pocket of Creation in the area around it (say, it lasts one scene, or until the shaft of the arrow is snapped in two?). Bringing it back to the Fair Folk again, a Noble struck by one of these arrows might immediately find himself bereft of many of his powers until he thinks to remove the projectile or break it.


Arrows conjured through magical means, such as Phantom Arrow Technique, still possess this effect, the Essence spreading the Creation-generating effect through the target for the same duration (once the target grasps an Essence arrow, the arrow would dissipate, therefore ending the effect).


I would say that it's fair to think that many, if not all targets hit by arrows of this bow would sense that the Creation-bubble is being generated by the arrow.

Yeah, the effect is completely free, so that's cool. The artifact is fine then? I was thinking commit cost of 7m with two Hearthstone sockets. The construction is of White Jade and Orichalcum (but it only gains the MM bonus for Ori, and only Solars attune normally).


Did you see my suggestions regarding the costs for activating the main power of Coyote's Scythe?

With the mods, it seems a reasonable 5 dot.


I mean it has 1/3 the cost of a solar circle spell, same timing and effect limitation, less than 10% of its effect in terms of area of effect (the spell initially has a AoE of 500 miles when first bought, now it's 30 miles), and finally the areas that can be targeted are reduced to one specific type.
 
Nah, that's all fine. I just suggested a different cost because just keeping the mote cost at the same while dropping everything else didn't seem to flow as much with the changes in power. The Agg level cost has significance to how the spell works (the blood seeps into the land to help restore it), and the Willpower cost shows how this taxes the user. That's why I suggested a lower mote cost, but keep a smaller agg level and willpower cost.


My two suggestions were:


20m, 2wp, 2ahl


and


20m, 1wp, 3ahl


Both are proportionally the same (half the cost of the original spell), just using opposite rounding (round the wp up and ahl down, or vice versa, respectively).
 
I agree that thematically the HL loss could be cool, though the limitations put on the effects are kinda heavy (-90% AoE, only one type of land can be the target of the effect), and justify no willpower cost and no HL loss for me.


I mean it's not like he's gonna use the power every day of the month... he only can use it on one specific day in the year, meaning he can cure a single land a year (and Essence x 10 miles square's not much) or maybe two if he travels fast and sleeps to recover the motes... I mean, compared to a daiklave of conquest, a power armor, or Soul Mirror which have powers that can be used everyday if needed, this one kinda sucks for a 5 dot artifact.


To balance it a bit, I allowed shapeshifting, and both MM.
 
I'm not saying that the weapon is unbalanced. Nor am I worried about it be used all the time. None of that really matters to me. I'm just saying that the HL and WP cost have significance to the spell, and that you could easily retain that theme by lowering the the mote cost. I think it would make sense that the mote cost for this ability would be less than the spell's (20 instead of 40) as its much smaller of an effect. To balance this, you would retain a willpower and health level cost, though much smaller than that of the spell.
