Hive Cave 2.jpg

As Naori, Rosette and Zolgen press forward down the right-hand tunnel, guided by the compass’s silent insistence, the winding passage narrows beneath pulsing chitin walls. A dull, rhythmic drip… drip… drip… echoes uncomfortably loud in the claustrophobic space. Then something more significant than a drip splatters onto the ground behind them—a thick, viscous blob of acidic resin drops from a sagging, membrane-like bulge in the ceiling.

One of the cyclops’s globular minions takes a direct hit and emits a warbling screech. The poor creature quickly liquefies into a sludgy puddle, its gelatinous body eaten away by the corrosive resin. [4/5 Minions]

The splash sears across the Agrigore's protective outer shell, leaving jagged fissures where smooth plating once was. [Natural Heavy Armor destroyed]

Dreayth’s Heavy Armor caught by the acidic spray, pockets of metal plating hiss and bubble. Portions of his breastplate thin visibly, weakening its integrity. [Heavy Armor destroyed]

A faint chemical hiss lingers, and the acrid smell of burning organic matter drifts through the tunnel. The resin continues to drip, warning of further hazards overhead. Just as this assault subsides, a shrill, keening chitter reverberates from deeper within the hive—perhaps alerted by the commotion.

Undeterred, Naori’s lantern light sweeps ahead, revealing a short drop-off where the tunnel descends more steeply. The ground glistens with sticky residue, suggesting it could be slippery—or worse, concealing more acidic pockets. Along the right wall, half-consumed insect carcasses lie fused into the resin, the passage of time evident in their twisted and shriveled forms. Deeper in the darkness, the shapes of smaller bugs skitter away.

Despite the looming risks, the compass’s needle remains fixed on this downward path. The urgency of your mission weighs heavily—there are fewer than three days to recover Hiroshi’s body and soul, after all. Every hiss of resin and whisper of movement is a fresh reminder that the hive is still very much alive… and hungry.

The deeper the group ventures, the more unsettling the atmosphere becomes. The tunnel’s walls seem to breathe, pulsing with a sickly glow beneath thick swaths of resin. Even the air grows heavier, suffused with the cloying scent of decay and something vaguely sweet—like rotten honey.

Eventually, the slope evens out and widens into a small antechamber. The resin here is thicker underfoot, tugging at boots and claws like tar. Amid the dim flickers of lantern and bioluminescence, a heap of discarded chitin catches the party’s eye. It looks like a partial exoskeleton of one of the hive’s larger inhabitants, its abdomen torn open—whether from a fight or the natural cycle of molting is unclear. Dark fluids stain the sticky floor around it.

From somewhere beyond the chamber’s far side, faint chittering resonates through the tunnels—hard to pinpoint, but ever-present. Each chitinous rasp on stone echoes off the curved walls, creating the uneasy impression that something (or several somethings) is circling just out of sight. Occasional glimpses of movement dance across the periphery of your lantern-light, but they vanish when you pivot to look directly.

Off to one side, a large mound of resin bulges from the wall, shaped oddly like a cocoon. A faint vibration seems to hum from within, accompanied by sporadic twitches of the outer shell. Whether it’s a living creature hibernating or a tomb for something that tried to claw its way out is anyone’s guess. The surface is pockmarked with tiny holes, weeping a translucent fluid that dribbles along the floor.

At the chamber’s far end, the floor slopes downward again—this time into a narrow, funnel-like opening. The compass needle in Naori’s hand gives a more urgent throb, pointing unerringly into that cramped passage. The flickering lanternlight can’t quite penetrate the darkness there, but the group can make out slick, veined walls leading farther below.

A new noise rises from that funnel—a hushed, scraping sound, like something large dragging across resin. It stops, then starts again, irregular and unsettling. Along with it comes the smell of stale air, undercut by the tang of acid.

Time is pressing, and the hive seems increasingly agitated, as if sensing trespassers. The party stands at the threshold of yet another deeper descent. The acid-laced environment, the half-seen motions in the shadows, and the urgent pull of the compass all weigh on them.

As she descended into the mucky mess of the hive, following Master Destieen's direction, Master Zolgen's warning not to become unnerved stuck strongly in mind. She kept her wits about her despite the gnawing darkness, the cloying scents of the cavern, and the skittering of things just beyond sight. Each foot step carefully placed lest she slip or become enmired in the filth of the place. Though as she kept her vigil she would note what seemed like pustules here and there along the roof. She briefly wondered what they might be, but the sound of a heavy splash followed by hissing and an inhuman wail told her all she might need to know. By the time the acrid chemical scent had reach her she had already determined to be extra wary of things falling from above. She never looked back, knowing no good scene would greet her ruby gaze, instead she kept slogging carefully forward.

She kept close enough for commands but other wise she held to the front picking the best path she could manage in a passage that grew worse with every few heart beats. There were so many unsetting things to be witness to. Here and there little bugs scurried away from Rosette and the little group. Unnerving sounds seemed to come from the darkness itself, and even the walls seemed to breathe of their own accord. To Rosette it was as if she had descended into some hell, and as they passed a large dead bug with it's belly split open she wondered what the heck'n heck had brought this Hiroshi Nakamura to such a place. What possible business could bring a person to such a place? Beyond rescuing someone she was hard pressed to come up with anything.

When they passed the oozing, vibrating cocoon thing Rosette could only shake her head at the disgusting likelihood that there was some unnamed abomination just waiting to hatch inside it. Still she kept trudging carefully onward, right until they reached a point where the wall narrowed further into a funnel of sorts. From with in the funnel the sounds of something large dragging along the resin would here and there, start and stop. A truly unsetting sound if you were to ask Rosette her opinion on the matter. She paused there at the entrance for a moment, the smell of stale air mixed with the chemical tang of acid wafted up to her.

Rosette was definitely going to die. She could feel the cold hands of the grim hugger come to give her life's final embrace as she stood there. That was the exact moment that she chose to go in as quietly and as carefully as she could. Her weapon she held ready for use. She checked the safety once again to ensure it was off and there would be no dangerous delay in it's operation. She kept an eye out for acid and bugs, and whatever it was that was dragging itself along in darkness ahead. If she were to die at least she would die taking some action, and if she lived she felt she would have earned at the least a warm head pat.

Zolgen traveled along vigilantly with his goblins noticing that unfortunately it wasn't just harmless fluid dripping occasionally. Who even let the buggers build a place this large to begin with? Zolgen originally had somewhat been hoping that the hive would have provided an avenue for diplomacy, but so far he wasn't really sure just how smart these bugs were..It didn't change the fact that if they got In his way for forming and leading the Wild Hunt they could either align themselves or be destroyed, either option was fun for him.

Regardless back to the present he saw that one of Agrigore's minions got killed by the acid, something told him that it'd be really bad if any of his goblins got hit by the same stuff.

"#Ah, sorry about the loss Agrigore, Hope you can get or make more of those little guys easily enough..#"

Unfortunately that wasn't the only damage as Zolgen's fellow demon ended up getting his armor damaged, between the two of them. And Zolgen didn't have the skills to be a crafter very well in this case nor the materials really needed to do so.

"Tch, environmental hazards.." Zolgen grumbled quietly. He took notice of the carcasses and the potential for more acid pockets saying simply to the group, "Pay attention to the landscape, possible dangers. Might get slippery, might be more of that acid..."

"So they can get big huh? Well I'll be damned.."
Zolgen chuckled at seeing the exoskeleton from a larger bug presumably.

Zolgen almost had an inclination to call out to the bugs who hid in the shadows and invite them to come fight him in Abyssal rather than cowering in their houses like children, but he knew that'd be counter productive to their mission given the time limit, so he refrained from doing so.

When they got to the cross section chamber with the compass guiding them, Zolgen looked to the cocoon like structure, and then spoke quietly,

"Let's..be very quiet..and.." He'd look at the compass, "follow the device, I have a feeling that if that thing gets startled something ugly is going to come out and as much as I'd enjoy crushing it we're on a time limit here.." Zolgen spoke his mind to the group once again, looking to the cramped passage.

"Things are about to get cramped, so let's be smart about this too, I"ll take the front with my Goblins, Naori you keep playing guide, while the rest secure our flank.." Zolgen gave his opinion and what he thought should be done to get through.

“Hmm…”

Naori’s gaze followed the light of his lantern in contemplation, considering his options with the current set of skills. They had to choose a smart option, reasonable logical, and quick like a stab to the heart. Or the piercing cut of a knife through a lung. Quick, precise convenient. He looked over at the rest of the group, with only the light of the lantern to decipher their weapons.

”Agreed Zolgen. Rosette and Dreayth stay in front of Agrigore. Rosette has the range, Dreayth has the melee and Agrigore has the appetite.”

Naori answered blankly and then attempted to mix a few of his skills into a new ability, though he lacked the means of guessing if it would work. Though Naori was one for risks regardless, how would one learn if they didn’t experiment? Naori used the ability [precautionary navigation [E].

Dreayth’s hummed to himself lightly as he trudged through the cavern. Trading in the light for the darkness, as he moved further into the cave his mind could only ponder what Hiroshi was doing in a place like this. Ruling out booze and anything sexual was out of the picture, leaving greed coming to mind. Perhaps payment or power? As light dwindled, Dreayth eyes would dilate further until the sockets of his eyes were filled with black. Utilizing [Darkvision F] to see within the darkness.

As the thoughts went through the demon's mind he would eventually catch up to the others who went ahead. Please see familiar faces and one unfamiliar face, a child a that. He almost immediately assumed it was Naori’s friend judging by the age proximity. Maybe the little guy is raising a child army.

While being surprised by the tiny human girl, the monster was caught by the acidic bubble that quickly corroded his armor, revealing his body once again. He wanted to audibly grow in annoyance considering he had just purchased that gear.

Back to being shirtless

He at least found it better than having an outer shell melted or being chemically broken down so he decided to count his blessings, not even batting an eye at the goblin or Agrigore. The dissonant sounds seemed to only put a smile on the monster's face, providing him with a feeling of nostalgia. He made not of the acidic properties, ensuring he wouldn’t get hit again.

He would assume his position in the formation next to Rosette, giving her a brief side-eye. Dreayth would keep his eyes peeled for any other possible hazards as well as insects perhaps lurking in the depths.

[Globsters F] 4/5

The Agrigore's ears twist forth as they all hear a hideous screech emanating from deeper in the hive. More bugs. And they were growing ever more agitated. Combat was inevitable... and the vicious cyclops was more than willing to get it started proper. His perpetual grin seemed to enhance further at this opportunity as Naori and Zolgen confirmed his senses. A few more clicks of his teeth and both the Agrigore the globsters around him would move out, moaning and gurgling as they waddled along with little care of their surroundings. They were near-mindless beings unlike Zolgen's lucid goblins with little in the way of actual thought outside of their master's commands.

And this had often gotten them into trouble in previous lives.

So as the group headed deeper and deeper into the caverns, one of the poor globsters would find themselves suffering a very quick and unfortunate demise. The resin around them had not only groan more pungent but also highly acidic. A large blob dripped down from the ceiling, plopping down on an unfortunate minion with a sickening splat. The globster wailed and screeched briefly in confused agony before the acid ate into its tar-like blobs and bony structures. Within seconds it was reduced to a smoldering puddle... though the chemical reactions which took place between the were surprisingly explosive.

Much to the detriment of those nearby.

While the Agrigore took no immediate action towards the death of one of its fodders, the chemical spray would find itself splattering across its armored back of bone and keratin. Taken off-guard he gave a surprised jerk as his body flailed in response to his back being scaled by the acid eating away at his natural armor.

"#AAGRH!#" the Agrigore screeched briefly, shaking his back and tail rapidly to relieve himself of this sudden agonizing sensation.

While the acid didn't penetrate completely into his skin, the armored defenses he once sported had been greatly reduced, leaving jagged fissures of chemical burns in his outer skin. The smell was absolutely putrid... a mix between harsh chemical and old ancient flesh. Given what they were up against, this could prove much more hazardous than he initially believed. Zolgen relayed his condolences towards his loss, in which the Agrigore gave an annoyed hiss.

"#AAAAGRIGOOOOOOORE....#" he growled, confirming that he could given time but that he was currently more annoyed at what had just transpired to himself.

Not that it truly mattered to him long term... again he could regenerate the damage given time. Though armor took far longer to regenerate than his own essence. He had to be more cautious of his surroundings as he clicked for his minions to tighten formation and stay alert. He wouldn't initially be aware of Dreayth's condition either, focusing more on his self-preservation then those of others.

And the deeper they went the more the environment around them changed. It was becoming more organic in shape and smell, with the resin's nauseatingly sweet and rancid stench filling the air around them. The smell wouldn't bother them... though the ground below them was also becoming sticker as resin seeped underfoot. Even with their ability to change forms into a sticky tar-like substance of their own would they be impeded somewhat and not nearly enough to cause notable aggravation. The littered corpses of discarded bug parts and chiton around them would pull their attention, trying to study the make-up and biology of the bugs surrounding them to the best of what they were provided. All they could tell right now was that some of these bugs could grow truly massive...

Then there's the odd resin cocoon structure in which the Agrigore was quick to investigate. He sniffed its outer shell and listened closely to what might be hibernating within. Whatever it was, it was bound there to the meantime. An easy target... maybe an easy meal. He raised a sharpened claw and was almost ready to cut into it when Zolgen urged everyone to move forth. They were on a time limit after all. This time... the cyclops would spare whatever was inside.

Yet the intrusive urges were getting stronger. He could only resist them for so long... Should they pass another one of these cocoons he might not be able to resist peaking into one.

Once reaching the more cramped portions of the chamber, the group began to discuss formation moving forth. It was straight-foward, with Zolgen and Agrigore taking front with their minions while Draeyth and Rosette were behind at rear guard. He gave a faint nod and exhale of approval as he moved forth in formation alongside his globster minions while scouting for any other dangers.

Despite the claustrophobic corridor’s dangers, the group’s combined skills guide them deeper still. Drifting beads of acidic resin sizzle upon the resin-floored passage, and each misstep could plant a foot directly into a hidden pool. Yet Naori’s [Precautionary Navigation E] again proves invaluable, helping them skirt the worst of the hive’s traps. Where the corridor tightens to single file, Dreayth’s enhanced vision ([Darkvision F] combined with his [Perception] and [Appraisal]) gives quick warning of any slime sacs overhead. Zolgen’s instructions keep goblins and globsters in line, while Agrigore’s towering form plows through sticky patches with stubborn determination. Meanwhile, Rosette calmly stalks forward, lantern in one hand and rifle in the other—ever vigilant for the slightest scuttling in the dark.

Suddenly, the funnel opens into a large, dome-like hollow. Wan light from the group’s lanterns reveals a nauseating tableau: the resin here bulges in organic ridges along the walls, forming macabre alcoves. Each alcove holds partial or fully-encased figures—shells, limbs, twisted torsos—consumed by the hive’s slow, acidic digestion over time.

A prickling hush falls as you enter. The heavy, stale air vibrates with the faint hum of insect movement somewhere beyond. No immediate swarm greets you, but you sense the quiet is only temporary—a calm before the storm.

By the faint lanternlight, you glimpse a familiar silhouette half-submerged in resin near the far wall. He’s still clad in teared clothing—Hiroshi Nakamura. Pieces of his once-sturdy burgundy suit are melted away. Resin has cocooned him from the waist down, locking him to the wall in a grotesque embrace.

  • The Compass Flare
As Naori enters, the compass needle thrums violently, confirming this is indeed Hiroshi’s body. If a soul retrieval is your mission, time is critical: the resin’s slow, corrosive properties will inevitably consume what’s left.
  • Signs of Life?
Whether it’s a trick of the flickering light or some last twitch of necromantic energy, you see a slight spasmodic jolt in Hiroshi’s fingers. It’s probably just nerve-end reflexes—he’s quite certainly dead—but an eerie sight all the same.

Just as hope (or relief) flickers among you, a deep rasp reverberates from a tunnel on the opposite side of the chamber. Dreayth’s watchful eyes catch movement: a hulking insectoid shape shifts in the darkness, about 40ft from the party. Much larger than the drones glimpsed thus far, this creature’s segmented abdomen glows faintly with sickly bioluminescence. Powerful forelimbs end in scythe-like pincers, and its mandibles clack in an unsettling staccato.

A single resin-coated tendril dangles from its thorax, dripping acid in slow rivulets. It steps cautiously but with clear authority—the hive’s sentinel. With the Queen gone, perhaps this soldier has assumed the mantle of guardian for the brood. The hush that once settled over the space explodes into clacking echoes as the sentinel utters a shrill challenge, limbs twitching in open hostility.

  1. A Disturbed Nest
From the resin ridges overhead, you hear smaller bugs stir—a half-dozen sets of spindly legs scuttling. Should the fight begin, they may drop into the fray.
  2. Hiroshi’s Body
Surrounded by thick resin, plucking Hiroshi free quickly seems impossible without melting or hacking at the sticky mass. Each moment spent struggling with the cocoon leaves you open to an attack.
  3. Acidic Environment
Even here, stray drips from the ceiling continue to plop onto the ground. A missed dodge or ill-timed swing could break open a hidden sac of acid overhead, raining more corrosion on already-weakened armor.

In the center of this bio-organic “throne room,” you face a decisive moment. Retrieve Hiroshi now, or first deal with the looming sentinel? The hive’s brood edges closer, their skittering building into a frenetic symphony. A fight seems all but inevitable.

Despite the cramped conditions within the tight corridor, the Agrigore and his minions pushed forth with stubborn tenacity before finally reaching the end. Lain before them was an expansive room filled with more of these disgusting resin pustules. They looked very much like the cocoon he'd nearly split open earlier, each holding a unique victims that was being gradually dissolved within the hive's own digestive enzymes. This had to be a place where they stored them, prepping them to become one with the very hive itself. Such a room was expected to be heavily guarded, yet the Agrigore was surprised to see it seemingly unguarded.

Or at the very least they weren't immediately surrounded by a horde of drones and worker-bugs.

Given they were more than aware of their presence, they no doubt were planning a counterattack to eliminate these noxious intruders. They had to find their target quickly less they risk to be overrun by reinforcements. Scanning with his [Darkvision F], the Agrigore scanned the room while paying attention to the direction of Naori's compass. Eventually though they'd find who they sought, wrapped in one of these very cocoons with most of his clothes having dissolved away. Judging from the appearance given by the Madame, it looked to be the predigested body of Hiroshi Nakamura. The Agirgore's tall lanky form loomed over the body with pranging hunger in his eye. Aside from the involuntary subtly twitching of his fingers, he was most certainly unconscious. And he was fading ever further into the embrace of sweet death.

"#AGIRGOREE...?#" he gurgled, asking the party if this was truly him.

Just as he was considering to rip him out, his ears picked up a disturbing raspy groan of something nearby. Something big and most heinous... the guardian of this chamber. His whole body twisted on a dime as the Agrigore locked his eye on his opponent followed by his globster minions in near-perfect unison. This wasn't quite the challenger they were expecting to encounter first... but at this point almost anything would do. Despite this sentinel being larger than the rest of the party, it might as well be one of the highest orders the Agrigore could've wished for. And the drones nearby were inching their way closer. For most people, this would be the time to high tail out of there. And indeed, even the Agrigore knew he was essentially outmatched.

But none of that mattered too much to him now. He was itching for combat... and he was done waiting for orders. For as the sentinel bug signaled for a challenge with a shrill screech of his own, the Agrigore would respond in kind as he let out an amplified cacophonous call of defiance [Intimidation F].

SCREECH

While roaring, all four globsters would morph into their liquid states and split up to attempt in encircling the big bug believing its attention to be drawn upon their master. Then they all attacked at once. The Agrigore would quickly rush forth and pounce upon the creature's back, trying to leap high enough to avoid its sharp scythe-like mandibles. As he attacked from above, the Globsters attacked from below. They began striking at the sentinel's legs and lower body where he must be more vulnerable. Two would come in close and bite it with their gaping maws, while two others stood just five feet further away and struck out with their bony-spiked elastic tendrils at any potential gaps and weak spots in the bug's armor.

Actions:
  1. Roar at Sentinel Bug and all opponents within the room. [Intimidation F].
  2. Orders all four [Globsters F] to spread out and encircle the Sentinel Bug while keeping a low-profile [Viscous Morph F].
  3. Both Agrigore and the four [Globsters F] attack at once:
    1. Agrigore utilizes [Savage Pounce F] to leap onto the Sentinel Bug and rip into its back.
    2. Two Globsters attack with [Putrid Swipe F] + The other two Globsters attack with [Slobbering Bite F] = aiming at the Sentinel Bug's legs and sides.

Agrigore:
  • Savage Pounce F - [Fast F, Intimidation F, Jumping F, Super Strength F] - Cooldown +0 - The Agrigore proceeds to leap towards its opponent and pounce on it, using its appendages to pin it to the ground.
Globsters F:
  • Viscous Morph F - [Change State (Liquid) F] - Globster's viscous body allows it to morph its body to help avoid getting hit or resist certain physical strikes. If necessary, a globster can turn into purely liquid to escape or conceal itself.
  • Slobbering Bite F - [Natural Weapons F, Fighting Style (Globster) F] - Globster lunges forth to bite its opponent. It can reach an additional 5 feet due to its viscous form.
  • Putrid Swipe F - [Natural Weapons F, Fighting Style (Globster) F] - Globster attempts to hit opponent with its tar-riddled bony appendage. It can reach an additional 5 feet due to its viscous form.

As they made their way through the narrow corridor Rosette took a sidelong glance at Master Dreayth. The strange light of her lantern only serving to highlight his shirtless and very demonic form. A lesser Maid would have thought this or that, but not Rosette. She was a consummate professional. Instead she kept a vigil against any danger she might stumble across, and there were dangers enough to go around to be sure. Though she did marvel at his sudden appearance, not having seen him in the Crimson Lotus, Rosette had assumed Master Dreayth had stumbled upon more pressing matters. Now that he stood near, it completed the feeling of otherworldliness that this group had brought into her life. Strange days and strange company had found her, but it was not undesirable.

When at last the little party emerged into a much larger chamber Rosette was immediately beset with the most horrific scene she could have ever imagined. Her stomach churned just a little at the unexpected and disgusting tableau of partly digested victims set into alcoves. This she realized, as she fought to bring her tummy under control, was in fact a vast stomach they had wandered into. It was such a nightmarish thought that Rosette shook her head to immediately banish it. Such thinking would only be a disservice to her at this point. She needed every ounce of her will to be focused on the task at hand. Only when they managed to escape would she have time to ponder on all of these impossible things she was bearing witness to.

It was at this point that she noticed the eerie hush that had befallen them. The chittering and scraping that had become a sort of background noise had dissipated and it left a very unnerving impression once she realized that it was gone. Just as she thought she could make out the subtle shifting of insects beyond her lantern light a Hulking form materialized from the darkness. Disgusting bioluminescent segments highlighted it's size and the danger of it's appendages. It was some hive queen so far as Rosette could tell. Before Rosette could fully digest what she was seeing, nor comprehend the full view of the situation at hand, Young Master Agrigore let out such a screech that Rosette Paled by two full shades. To her credit, a lesser maid would have soiled herself immediately upon the hearing of such a sound. Rosette however was both competent and cute, thus she only paled a bit before blushing most severely at her own reaction.

Realizing combat was at hand Rosette forgot all about her fears and failings. She was no stranger to work, and seeing the young master charge forward with his adorable pudding men, Rosette followed after only a few heart beats behind. She darted forward, careful of where she placed her feet, and cautious of what was above her. yet she only went about fifteen or so feet closer as she guessed at the creatures distance. By her estimation this would be more than enough to place her within a good striking distance. She took a deep breath and brought her rifle to bear. Her sights focused on what she felt was the creature's most vital area. Then as the thrill of battle filled her spirit, her voice raised in song.

" His eyes, they closed and his last breath spoke! He had seen all to be seen!" Her honey sweet voice rang out " A life once full, now an empty Vase! Wilt the blossoms on his early grave!"

She squeezed the trigger in her smooth and well practiced way [Close-Quarters Battle: E]. The report of her rifle echoed in the chamber. Her shot speeding to its intended target with all due accuracy.

" Walk away me boy! Walk away me boy! and by morning we'll be free!" She continued her delightful crooning " Wipe that golden tear! from your mother, dear! and raise what's left of the flag for me!"

Now that the fight had begun her heart swelled with joy. Rosette, though a dear and sweet girl, delighted in violence. Though to her credit, her training had tamped it down quite a bit. Tempering her raw nature into a useful tool for the dirtiest of the Maid's duties.

1. moved 15ft closer to the target (the hive sentinel)
2. Used Close-Quarters Battle: E ( this has a 1 post cool down)
3. sang quite delightfully, and looked very cute also

Zolgen

"#..That must have hurt, good thing us monsters are tough.#" Zolgen responded to Agrigore getting burned some.

Zolgen continued to follow Naori, and keep the goblins In formation. There was another element which crossed Zolgen's mind, how much time had passed here in that strange dimension? While the person said they had 3 days who really ever knew when dimensions like that could really be screwy on the time passage.

Thankfully it seemed more doable because after entering the claustrophobic space, traveling in the formation that Zolgen recommended they came into a Dome like hollow space, Zolgen had a strange feeling that the quiet in the space wasn't going to last and that they were going to be met with unwanted bugs soon enough, just something about the sudden silence, like other bugs had stopped moving for some reason was...telling that something bigger might be coming.

"#Yeah It looks like that's the guy Agrigore, who we gotta get outta here..if the compass is anything to go by.#" He'd take note at how violent it had started to get when they got close to the largely enclosed body.

But just like that a large insect appeared ready to be on the attack. Thankfully Agrigore and even the girl were on the offensive. Zolgen figured between them and maybe another one of them they'd be able to counter the insect,

"#You five go and attack!#" He'd bark out to his goblins.

The five goblin Javelineers weren't the most thrilled to have to go fight the bug but they'd go to provide a team up bonus with Agrigore's activity and the girl's, if unimpeded the goblins moved up and all attempted to stab the sizable bug with their javelins, getting within 5 ft to do so.

Goblin Javelineers Actions:
1. All 5 use a movement action to move into striking range of bug.
2. All 5 goblins use basic attack to try to stab the large bug with their Javelins

"I'm going to work on getting our target out, the rest of you support how you deem necessary."
Zolgen then looked to Hiroshi, Zolgen would use his remaining actions to work on getting the body out, using his demonic twin blades which he already had out to carefully slash at the resin. This was different than how Zolgen normally operated as he'd usually love to jump head on and defeat his opponent in a battle but he could see that there was a risk of it degrading as was told to them, if they didn't get it out quick.

Zolgen actions:
1. Move to body
2. Action to work on getting Hiroshi body out, using swords.
3. Action to work on getting Hiroshi body out, using swords.

Seeing the others engage in battle, made the teenager ready for the fight, eager so as he was told that he could support in any way he wanted, for someone who wanted to see the spill of mortal blood this came naturally as he held out his dagger. He relayed to Zolgen.

“focus on cutting him out, I’m going to aid them in the fight against the bugs—I’ll help carry him out when we are done.”

Then he hopped into the battle. His first and strongest attack was [Faux Innocence [D]. Though he wasn’t aware of specific weak points he tried to avoid attacks and hit vital points. He wanted to see them bleed, to see them ripped apart worse from where, and, from what he could tell these things could be valuable if turned into materials…he just had to see where the fight would lead, he followed up his attacks with 2 mundane attacks.

Action 1: use Fighting style -Faux Innocence- [D] - Aura [F] [Bloodlust] - Blight [Poison] [F],Incurable [F]- Naori stabs his victims with a posion laced blade, radiating the feeling of blood thirst.

The horned monster licked his lips as his chest beat at the sound of impending combat. "Yeah, come here maggots" he'd chirp with a wide grin plastered on his face. Dreayth would give his spear a twirl as the sound of the insects surrounding the group came closer and closer. "Ay, little Naori you hear that you little psycho freak? We got some heads to roll on the ground." Zolgen had decided to deal with handling Hiroshi, "Zolgen, that human is important to me, make sure you get him out of his coffin unscathed." If Whizzie heard something had happened to Hiroshi he would be sad, that can't do. He'd ensure that Hiroshi and himself would make it out of here alive. Perhaps talk about what happened over some drinks and laugh about it once it was all over.

He'd turn to Rosette, Dreayth didn't think that the human girl would be itching for combat. Her meek presence from earlier showed little to be desired however she decided to stand her grind, utilizing her firearm as a warcry alongside Agrigore, arguably the two of them would bring more monsters. Either way, it didn't matter to the spear-wielding demon. "Become a monster little human, that's the only way you'll survive."

Dreayth smiled as the Sentinel showed itself, the threat. It wasn't going to go down easy, good, He wouldn't want it any other way. He would take the lead alongside Agrigore, windening on his spear as he took a powered stance, before swinging. His immense strength would be felt reverberating through the air as he sliced at the Sentinel. Dreayth's attack would be focused, aiming to leave the insect off balance.

Actions
1. Use Fast to get within 10 Ft of the Sentinel
2. Use Hellsplitter [Fighting Style E, Penetrating F, Knockback F, Range F, Superstrength F, Dark Vision F] - Dreayth utilizes his strength through a wide swing attack aimed for the targets lowerbody, attempting to knock the target prone or offbalance.
3. Use Relentless Assault F to pierce the Insects shell, Relentless assault F- Dreayth repeatedly strikes with his spear, chipping at his foes' defenses with each strike.(Fighting Style F, Penetrating F, Athletics F, Super Strength F, Energized F, Dark Vision]

'Corrections' done this round, by me, to ensure that players' actions are carried out as they intended. This is an exception as I normally wouldn't be doing this:

Agrigore - Agrigore having used [Intimidation F] separately, without Energized F, would forbid him to use [Savage Pounce F]. In addition, abilities that include movement + attack costs 2 actions, at least, without the use of the Striker Perk. Thus, Agrigore's actions are:

1 - Order Globsters F
2/3 - [Savage Pounce F]

Globsters F, having 3 actions, would:
1/2 - Move 35ft towards the Sentinel
3 - Use an attack action (Their abilities should include Reach F for better clarification of why the extra reach)

Zolgen - One of Zolgen's actions would need to be used to order his Goblins. Thus, Zolgen's actions are:

1. Order the Goblins.
2. Move to body.
3. Action to work on getting Hiroshi body out, using swords.

Naori - Naori didn't use movement actions to approach the Sentinel, who is currently 40ft from the party. Thus, Naori's actions are:

1/2 - Move 40ft into melee range of the Sentinel.
3 - Fighting style -Faux Innocence- [D] - Aura [F] [Bloodlust] - Blight [Poison] [F],Incurable [F]- Naori stabs his victims with a posion laced blade, radiating the feeling of blood thirst.

Dreayth - Fast F changed so that Dreayth can approach the Guardian changed to Fast F + Energized F, otherwise he won't be able to use action 3.

Mournweald Encounter - Darkest Dungeon

As soon as the hulking Guardian emits its piercing challenge, the cavern explodes into action. Acidic droplets patter like deadly rain in the background, and the smaller bugs skitter anxiously across the resin-coated ceiling. Each crook (and monster) springs to their task with practiced or savage efficiency—a sudden blur of limbs, blades, and slashing tar-like appendages.

Agrigore & His Globsters

Agrigore bellows a guttural roar and hurls himself across the dome-like chamber. Cracks of resin and sharp, chitinous debris scatter around him as he charges, bridging the distance with unnatural leaps. His Savage Pounce culminates in a powerful forward vault, aiming to slam him down onto the Guardian’s back. Glistening insectoid limbs lash out to intercept him, but the cyclops’s momentum is fierce.

Behind him, the Globsters spread out in a low, liquid surge, their amorphous bodies rippling. Two attempt to snap and swipe at the Guardian’s lower abdomen with dripping, bony tendrils, while the others ooze around its legs, launching slobbering bites. The Guardian’s thick exoskeleton deflects some of the first bites with an audible clang, but the onslaught is relentless; ragged gouges appear where the tar-like minions cling and tear.

Dreayth

Like a living storm, Dreayth closes in—his unnerving, horned silhouette bounding across the treacherous resin. He stops just short of the Guardian, bracing with a wide stance. A single breath later, his Hellsplitter arcs upward, the vicious blow carried by his demonic strength. The Guardian attempts to parry with a scythe-limb, but Dreayth’s spear bites deep, cracking some outer plating and sending the beast staggering. Quickly following up, Relentless Assault whips the spear again and again toward the Guardian’s underbelly, gouging more cracks in the exoskeleton.

A thin spray of foul-smelling ichor seeps from newly opened gaps, the behemoth’s mandibles clacking in agony.

Rosette

Meanwhile, Rosette covers ground with careful, light-footed strides, weaving between sticky puddles and jagged resin lumps. Her rifle is already shouldered by the time she slides into position—a sweet, melodic battle-hymn on her lips. The lilting tune echoes strangely in the dank hive:

“Walk away me boy… walk away me boy… and by morning we’ll be free…”
At the crescendo, she squeezes the trigger, her Close-Quarters Battle technique steadying the shot. The sharp crack of gunfire rings out, and the bullet slams into the Guardian’s side, punching through a weakened carapace plate that Dreayth’s spear has already fractured. Its shriek rattles the chamber, and the stench of acid grows stronger as the wounded sentinel stumbles.

Naori

As a swirl of monstrous claws and scythe-limbs engulfs the Guardian, Naori dashes in with uncanny swiftness, needing two quick bursts of movement just to close the gap. His dagger glints in the lantern-light, radiating an aura of dark intent. In one fluid strike, he unleashes Faux Innocence [D], the blade laced with a subtle toxin that seeps past the Guardian’s shell through newly carved fissures.

An almost imperceptible hiss escapes the beast’s mandibles as the venom begins its slow, insidious work. Naori then follows with two rapid slashes, aiming for vital joints or soft spots. One blow grazes, while the other strikes a glancing hit on its spined forelimb, drawing out a fresh rivulet of sickly ichor.

Zolgen's Goblin Javalineers

As the larger combatants surge forward, Zolgen’s five Goblin Javelineers hurry in at their master’s command. Their beady eyes reflect equal parts determination and apprehension as they close ranks near the Guardian, javelins clutched in sweaty green palms. In ragged unison, they lunge as one—short, sharp strikes aimed at the monster’s legs or softer abdomen plating. Most of their blows glance harmlessly off chitin, but one well-placed jab pierces a gap in the Guardian’s side, eliciting a furious, pained chitter from the behemoth.

The Guardian’s Counter

Up close, it becomes clear this sentinel has no intention of going down easily. Despite being hammered by teeth, blades, and bullets, it barrels forward, forelimbs thrashing to dislodge or slice at those in melee range. A scythe-limb clangs against Agrigore’s chest, forcing him back a couple of steps, while a wild backhand nearly catches Dreayth in the ribs.

Yet the combined onslaught is too massive to be fully negated. The Guardian’s carapace fractures in multiple places, and it’s forced back under the punishing assault—staggering a good few feet, limbs scraping to keep balance. A shimmering glaze of resin-laced blood spatters the resin floor.

Knockback
The force of pounces and spear-thrusts drives the beast back, carving a shallow furrow in the sticky ground. Small, shrieking drones overhead shift agitatedly, but none dare drop down in the Guardian’s immediate path—yet.

Zolgen & Hiroshi

While the others keep the hulking sentinel occupied, Zolgen rushes straight to Hiroshi’s resin-entombed form. A single glance tells him the viscous mass is thick and hardened around the waist and legs. With both twin blades, Zolgen hacks and slices at the sticky casing. Each slash peels off a layer of resin with an unpleasant, elastic schlllck, releasing occasional spurts of acidic residue that sizzle on the floor.

Hiroshi’s body slumps forward slightly, its faint twitching more noticeable now that some of the restrictive matter is gone. Though Zolgen’s progress is swift, it’s clear the resin clings stubbornly—this will take a bit more work to free him completely without damaging the corpse further. Stray drips from the ceiling force Zolgen to dodge mid-slice, but so far, he remains unscathed.

Ominous Drones Above

A chorus of smaller insectoid shapes inches along the chamber’s roof, drawn by the Guardian’s shrieks. They are only half the Sentinel’s size, but their spined legs and clacking mandibles still pose a threat if they drop down en masse. For now, they hesitate—perhaps the Guardian’s presence demands they wait for an opportune moment, or perhaps they fear the savage ferocity of your party.

The Battle’s Crescendo

A hush of tense, hissing breath sweeps through the group as the Guardian reels from its injuries. Acidic slime dribbles from fresh cracks in its exoskeleton, and Naori’s venom continues to eat away from within. Rosette’s spent cartridge clatters on the ground, while Dreayth and Agrigore poise for a second strike. The Globsters hold their positions, glommed onto the beast’s flanks or crouching to lash again.

Zolgen’s swords slice through another layer of resin around Hiroshi’s legs, progress accelerating. With luck, he’ll have the body free any moment now—but the Guardian’s next move could imperil everyone if it lunges that way.

But the Guardian is far from finished. Despite the ragged cracks in its exoskeleton and the lingering venom in its veins, the massive insectoid lurches upright with a shrill, resonating chitter. It staggers a few feet, bracing itself in the slick resin, then attempts a sudden burst of speed—mandibles gaping, acidic saliva dripping to the floor.

  1. A Vicious Lunge (Targeting Agrigore & Naori at 10ft):
The Guardian tries to crash back into melee range with startling force, scythe-like forelimbs slicing inward. One wicked blade hammers down toward Agrigore’s chest. Meanwhile, it whips the second limb toward Naori in a deadly arc, hoping to skewer or at least knock him aside. The tension in the Guardian’s stance suggests it’s fighting through both pain and desperation to remove the immediate threats.
  2. Swat at the Goblins (10ft):
A third limb—less scythe and more blunt pincer—thrusts outward, attempting to sweep through Zolgen’s Goblin Javelineers who stand poised for another stab. Should any of the goblins fail to act, they risk being slammed into the resin-coated ground. The audible crunch of chitin on armor promises harsh consequences if it connects.
  3. A Tail Whip Toward Dreayth (15ft):
As Dreayth braces for another spear assault, the Guardian’s segmented abdomen curls in a whiplike lash, flinging acidic droplets across the resin floor. If Dreayth doesn’t act in time, that spattering might sear flesh—or worse. The Guardian seems hell-bent on keeping everyone at bay, even if it has to resort to flailing strikes.
  4. Raining Acid Overhead:
The harsh impact of the Guardian’s lunging movements shakes more resin loose from above. Several large blobs hiss as they fall—splattering near Agrigore’s globsters (15ft from the Guardian). Any creature that fails to see them in time could find itself drenched in a corrosive splash.
The smaller drones lining the ceiling chatter in heightened agitation, inching closer. They still refrain from joining the fray—perhaps out of deference to the Guardian or fear of your party’s ferocity. But their collective skittering grows louder, as if waiting for the perfect moment to descend. Should the Guardian’s gambit fail, one can only guess if these drones will rush to its defense—or flee deeper into the hive.

MINIONS:
[Globsters F] 4/5

The Agrigore's offensive was fierce. As he desperately attempted to crack through the bug's defenses, the globsters made some headway ripping and tearing into the sentinel's vulnerable parts through its hard exoskeleton combined with the rest of the party's involvement. Though as the cyclops was about to truly pierce his claws into his prey, he'd find himself pushed back by one of its limbs stabbing at its hardened sternum. The beast growled as it skidded back, digging his claws into the organic resinous dirt to stop himselfl. Viscous drool dripped feverishly from his mouth as it observed the damages they'd wrought towards their foe.

As it poised to return to the battle, the sentinel would unleash its own offensive by lunging forth towards the Agrigore and Naori with a ravenous burst of speed. They had to act quickly less they wanted to be shredded to red ribbons. Though the cyclops stubbornly stood in place... refusing to take another step back. Once in melee-range the bug would stab at Agrigore with a bladed limb. Though just as it seemed it was about to hit, the Agrigore's body would dissolve into goo at the last second. Even as the blade pierced the ground, the viscous tar would flex out just enough to avoid getting hit.

The cyclops would wait a moment as the sentinel above would strike back at the rest of the party. Tiny eyes peaked on the surface to peak at the situation above, waiting for the bug to be directly on top of him if it wasn't already. Though as it glanced up at the ceiling, he'd note the resin globs vibrating from the fight below looking like they were ready to drop. He needed to warn them quick, less he wanted to loose more minions to idiotic environmental hazards. Once in position underneath the distracted bug, the Agrigore reformed as its pushed itself feet first with quick and powerful thrust. His curved razor-sharp talons would be the first to burst upwards, aiming to pierce and hopefully gut its assumedly more vulnerable underbelly when it least expected it.

Though unlikely, perhaps with enough force it could even kick it on its back...

Once revealing himself, the Agrigore issued a sharp shriek for the globsters to take evasive maneuvers and press the attack. The four minions groan and spluttered in acknowledgement as they looked up at the resin that was already beginning to fall towards them. They attempted to dodge the best they could and should they succeed they'd continue to attack the sentinel bug's exposed wounds with a flurry of bites and tendril swipes.

Actions:
  1. Agrigore initiates Change State [Liquid] to avoid the strike.
  2. Once sentinel bug is underneath him, Agrigore reverts form to kick and pierce its underside. (Best case scenario is kicking it onto its back)
    • Skills Used: [Super Strength F] + [Elasticity F]
  3. Orders Globsters to take evasive maneuvers and press the attack.
    1. All Globsters attempt to dodge the falling resin.
    2. (Should any successfully dodge) Move towards Sentinel Bug.
    3. Half of the Globsters attack with [Putrid Swipe F] + The other half attack with [Slobbering Bite F] = aiming at the Sentinel Bug's exposed wounds and gaps in armor.
Globsters F:
  • Slobbering Bite F - [Natural Weapons F, Fighting Style (Globster) F] - Globster lunges forth to bite its opponent. It can reach an additional 5 feet due to its viscous form.
  • Putrid Swipe F - [Natural Weapons F, Fighting Style (Globster) F] - Globster attempts to hit opponent with its tar-riddled bony appendage. It can reach an additional 5 feet due to its viscous form.

“Oh no you don’t!”

The Adrenaline was kicking in, Naori wasn’t going to have it and did something decidedly risky. Instead of attempting to dodge, He took his dagger and lunged towards the limbs stabbing the metal knife as much into its hide as he could with the use of [Faux Innocence [E]. This would be paired with two mundane attacks.

Action 1: use Fighting style -Faux Innocence- [E] - Aura [F] [Bloodlust] - Blight [Poison] [F],Incurable [F]- Naori stabs his victims with a posion laced blade, radiating the feeling of blood thirst. (team up bonus with Arigore if applicable)
Action 2: mundane attack
Action 3: mundane attack

Effectiveness:
3+ Dagger/Catalyst D
4+ strength Stat C
2+ fighting skill E grade
1+ Mundane attack
1+ Mundane attack
1+ teamup bonus from Agrigore (IF Applicable)
= 11 (12 if they can team up.)

CD:
D 1/2
E 0/1

Rosette dashed forward another fifteen or so feet, bringing her within the ten foot range of her lesser skill. This placed her at a much greater risk for injury but it was a necessary risk. She was careful of each footstep, wary of acid puddles and resin. She dodged areas of falling acid and was careful not place herself beneath what she had come to know were acid sacks. Her song became a humming as she knew she would need her breath if she was forced to dodge many attacks or to flee.

"Become a monster little human, that's the only way you'll survive."

Master Dreayth's words played at the edge of her mind as she gazed through her rifle sights choosing the best place to send her second shot. She squeezed the trigger in practiced calm ( entry team F) . The rifle bucked against her shoulder as another bullet shot forth, streaking through the air toward the hulking insect before her. She wasn't sure what it meant to be a monster, but Rosette was content to call herself a competent maid, or an adorable angel of death if the need arose. Those would have to suffice she felt.

1. dash forward 15 ft
2. used entry team F [ Entry Team - Marksmanship F, Range F, Insight F, Accurate F, Steady Hands F, Incurable F - Allows Rosette to make super fast, accurate, and deadly shots at very close range and while moving with out needing to stop to aim- Grade F - 0 Post Cooldown (picture some John wick type shit) - 10ft range - base effectiveness 8 ( grade d weapon + grade c precision + f grade ability)

Hearing all of the commotion, the tall demon man looked over and saw that the fight was still going strong, and that his goblins had tried attacking but now they were in danger of being killed themselves yet again, he really didn't want to have to go back to that damn cave yet again to drag more out. So for now Zolgen called out.

"#Goblins Dodge and counter!#"

Goblin Javelineers
Screenshot 2023-03-08 at 11-1-1.47.32 PM.png

It didn't look like Zolgen had really needed to bark orders at them as the goblins were already concerned seeing the blunt pincer come flying at them, All five would attempt to use one action to dodge by trying to move out of the way and getting down low on the ground. If any of them survived and managed to dodge, they'd then get back up do retaliatory strikes, by using another movement action with Fast F to move back into melee range and attempting to stab the large bug again the best they could,

Attempting to team up with the others:
Goblin basic:
STR E (2) + Melee F (1) = 3 (x5)

Zolgen then got back to work, "#Be Vigilant might have more company soon!#" He'd call out. Between moving out of the way of acid if needed Zolgen decided now was the time to pick up the pace and hopefully cut the body free.

He'd brandish his blades once again and attack, and use the selective F component to assure that he didn't harm Hiroshi's body even with the more powerful directed attack, using a Demonic Twin Strike to target the cocoon like prison, before following up with another

Demonic Twin Strike - Fighting Style Fiendish Twin Blade F, Linked F, Energized F, Selective F Grade F -1 post cooldown (energized)
Zolgen attempts to strike a single target with one sword before quickly following up with the other.

Demonic Twin Strike BE:
STRE C (4) + Melee D (3) + ABL F (1) = 8

(Bonus 1 Damage modifier from linked)

Zolgen Actions:
1 & 2:

Use Demonic Twin Strike twice on organic prison holding Hiroshi's body.

Demonic Twin Strike - Fighting Style Fiendish Twin Blade F, Linked F, Energized F, Selective F Grade F -1 post cooldown (energized)
Zolgen attempts to strike a single target with one sword before quickly following up with the other.

Demonic Twin Strike BE:
STRE C (4) + Melee D (3) + ABL F (1) = 8

3: Follow up basic attack if necessary.
Basic Attack BE:
STRE: C (4) + Melee D (3) = 7

Goblin Javelineers x5 actions:
1. Try to dodge incoming attack.
2. If any live use Fast F to move back into position.
3. Basic attack bug again.
Goblin Basic BE:
STR E (2) + Melee F (1) = 3 (x5)
