El’s suggestion was answered with Clair pulling him over to the stall of breads and pastries, with great enthusiasm. El himself was not one for sweets, and so he took very little interest in the stall food. Though he offered his own (querteys) money, Clair paid from her own pocket. El’s companion stored the food in her bottomless hat and brought out her broom.
“I really need to get myself something like that. I could have a portable greenhouse.” El spoke, absently, as he boarded her broom. El was not one who used a lot of convenience magic, so he rarely flew. He appreciated having friends who did though, and took full advantage. Clair mentioned helping him weed, and El dramatically leaned backwards, the back of his hand to his forehead. He had so much work to do, and Kudzu was an unforgiving vine with or without the accelerant charm he placed on the plant.
“It’s too late, my dear. Go on without me. But first torch my study so nobody can steal my work. Throw me in the flames and tell Quertey I’ve always loved him!”
El directed, as though he was actually giving his last will to her. He repositioned himself upright, grateful for Clair’s offer to help, though he wouldn’t admit it, and a tad apprehensive for anyone to see what kind of mess his place was. Hopefully he remembered to clean up the blood stains.
