Everyone's fighting some battle of their own.
Leandra and Manjano trailed into the next room with the group, both pausing at the sight of the immense table before them, both unaware of the type of wood it was. Either way, it looked tough and beautiful to the twins, both of which had a huge appreciation for nature and its beauty. Even if the table meant that a tree had to be cut down in order for it to be made.
Manjano glanced to one of the windows while silence filled the room, cocking his head ever so slightly at the faintly icy-looking windows and chilly setting just outside.
The moment the woman told them to make themselves at home, Leandra was grinning again and sitting at the table near Duik, though she was mindful to leave a seat for Alec. She figured the others who Duik was interested in could sit across from them or at Duik's other side if they wanted to.
Curious to hear about the others as well, Leandra remained quiet at the time being, as she began digging into a sandwich while Luness transitioned from Leandra's shoulder to the table itself.
Glancing at Laohu, Leandra found herself rather amazed by the tiger's appearance in general. She couldn't recall ever seeing a white one and so assumed that he was probably one of a kind for his species.
Now that she thought about it, Luness was probably one of a kind of her own species as well. That is...if they had any other phoenixes to compare Luness to. As far as Leandra was aware, Luness was the only phoenix in existence at the moment.
Glancing back at Leandra from the table, Luness cocked her head slightly and then said, "Stop being so moody, Leandra. You're ruining the moment."
Raising an eyebrow at Luness in amusement, Leandra then shrugged before saying, "Fine, fine."
While Leandra mingled with the crowd once more, Manjano had snatched a sandwich from the table and was quietly eating it while leaning against the wall near the window he'd looked out of earlier. Finding comfort in his solitude, but knowing that Falarion would want to meet the new people or at least be with them, he nodded at the table and a blur of white fur flashed in front of him, as Falarion excitedly scrambled to find a seat at the table.
Sitting beside Leandra for a bit of comfort amongst newcomers, Falarion anxiously began eating at some of the meat provided at the table. While really wanting to shout out his name and meet someone, Falarion felt nervous about doing so. What if someone thought he was weird or too excited?
While sitting still, for the most part, Falarion couldn't help but wag his tail a bit and shift about in his seat here and there.
Amused by Falarion's presence, though she of course had no way of reading the maned wolf's mind, Leandra casually leaned over and whispered to him, "You know, as long as you don't plan on shouting, it is acceptable to speak up and join the conversation."
Grinning at Leandra, Falarion let out a low bark before licking her cheek, resulting in her giggling and pulling away from him to wipe her cheek clean.
Still, Falarion decided it was best to keep quiet, especially when the woman began her presentation.
Manjano continued to silently watch everything and everyone from afar, his eyes seemingly critical of everyone unlike Alec's eyes, which appeared to be more observant than anything.
If anything, Manjano just hoped his sword 'friend' wouldn't try to give him company. At least his sister understood how much he enjoyed his solitude.
As the presentation began and the woman introduced herself as Agent Strong, both of the twins and their companions swiveled their heads in her direction. A unique team?
Leandra cocked her head at this, truly intrigued by it while Manjano scowled slightly, still a bit bitter over the fact that he had to work with other people and companions.
Curious enough to the twins though was the slight pause Agent Strong gave after she'd mentioned the team deal and her job as a recruiter. What was upsetting to her? That she had to lead some kind of ragtag team in a sense? Was she not keen on this job in particular? Or maybe she disliked someone here? Was it Simon? The one she'd given a notable look to in the lobby?
The twins' nearly in-sync thoughts were interrupted by Agent Strong, as she began speaking once more while an image of a large brown bear appeared on the screen. Who was that?
Leandra blinked in surprise at the screen, as her unasked question of who that was, was answered. Boris...and a missing agent. That didn't sound good at all.
Luness perked up at this, the food temporarily forgotten, as she worriedly looked between the screen and Leandra. Pausing to look at Leandra, Luness then said quietly and reassuringly, "I'd never do anything to hurt you, Lea..."
With a worried expression, Leandra nodded at Luness' reassurance, but still felt uneasy about this whole case to begin with.
Manjano furrowed his brows at what the Agent was insinuating with what she'd just now said. A missing agent, Boris, the companion to the missing agent, and a special case. Add that all up, and it would be safe to assume that Boris had done something to his human companion, which was nearly unheard of. At least, Manjano had never heard anything about it.
Hearing Luness reassuring Leandra, Falarion immediately turned his head around 180 degrees before he thought to Manjano, 'No worries, mate! I'll keep ya safe!'
The corner of Manjano's mouth twitched in amusement at Falarion's thoughts, but he thought instead, 'Come on, Falarion. Pay attention to the fancy Agent's presentation. You never know what we may learn from her about this case we're now on.'
Hearing Alec ask what kind of case Boris and his human companion had been investigating, Leandra found herself leaning forward in anticipation. Only to be disappointed when the Agent claimed it was classified. Well, that was helpful. Not.
Manjano cocked his head slightly at the mention of something being classified. Secrets already? That didn't take nearly as long as Manjano had guessed it would. And now they were apparently on a bounty hunt for a lost companion, who may or may not have killed his own human companion? Brilliant.
The moment that Duik asked about Boris' partner, both of the twins simultaneously scratched at the back of their heads, as they already had silently and confidently guessed what the answer was going to be. And they were right.
Both of the twins and their companions instantly exchanged nervous expressions, as much as Manjano could express one anyway, when the Agent admitted to what they'd already assumed to be true. Boris had most certainly attacked his own human companion, but why?
Hearing the Agent's offer of allowing any of them to walk free before accepting the job, neither of the twins nor their companions even flinched. If there was a rogue animal companion wandering the world and threatening others or even beginning some weird kind of spirit animal rebellion, then the twins and their companions refused to leave this room.
It was moments like this, where all four of them would simultaneously think alike without oftentimes even realizing it. Growing up together nearly 24/7 did things like this to people.
Glancing around the room, the twins soon realized all they could do for now was wait to see if anyone actually decided to leave the room.
Shifting his gaze to Simon in particular considering his and the agent's reactions from earlier upon seeing one another, Manjano wondered if he would try to leave at all. Raising his eyebrow in a rather critical manner, Manjano then silently watched Simon from where he was leaning up against the wall by the window.
