Tempest Wilkins
Finding the sparring room wasn't too difficult, despite the fact she'd never been there before. She took a deep breath before stepping inside, the room was massive, much bigger than any other classroom she'd been in before. She supposed that made sense, given the activity level she expected in this class. Her stomach was twisted up in knots, she'd never used her powers offensively before...and she worried that she might accidentally send a tornado tearing through the place...
In theory, storm magic could make for a potent offensive force, Tempest could conjure massive wind gusts and heavy rain fall, both of which could be used to throw an opponent off balance. Once, she'd conjured a rain cloud and some small lightning, but she'd yet to recreate that particular effect. She tended to stick to air manipulation, it was her comfort zone. Just taking this class put her way outside her usual zone, so she decided she'd stick to wind at first and go from there.
She made a beeline for the far side of the room, where she set down her bag and journal. She wasn't sure what sort of activity levels to expect, so she'd worn a pair of loose fitting athletic shorts and a paint stained gray hoodie, underneath which she wore a sports bra. She hadn't known what to wear, so she opted to wear her running gear, though it had been a while since it had been used for it's intend purpose.
The hoodie came off and was dumped next to the bag, she'd need extra room for her wings to expand if she was going to be using her magic properly. Said wings were flat against her back, right between her shoulder blades. Taking a deep breath she tried to imagine them at their fully size, flutter lazily behind her as they'd done many times before. She could feel her magic coiling up inside her, the sensation of bones and chitin extending at the silvery blue appendages enlarged.
This trick didn't always work, but visualization exercises had always been her most effect method at getting them to extend. She was so focused she didn't pay attention to anyone else filing into the room, but Mr. Kenso's announcement did snap her back to reality. Looking over her shoulder she breathed a small sigh of relief at the sight of two full sized insect like wings fluttering gently behind her. Already she could feel a stronger connection to the air in the room.
Alright Tempest, you can do this. Just remain calm.
She snapped to attention as Mr. Kenso addressed the class, announcing sparing partners. Her heart jumped at the notion of fighting a fellow student, but she assumed Kenso would intervene if things got out of her hand. Her eyes widened as she registered that both Gabe and Lucas were in this class, she hadn't seen them come in...
Her mind wandered to what sort of magic Lucas might possess when Mr. Kenso called her to the center of the room.
"Uh...M-me?", she pointed to herself, her wings fluttered faster behind her, lifting the clearly nervous teen a foot or so off the ground. She hadn't expected to be preforming in front of so many people...two of which she was acquainted with, the rest were little more than strangers.
Hesitantly she floated to the center of the room, and gulped as she looked around at all the people there. Watching her. How the hell was she supposed to show off if she could barely control her own powers?
"I...have uh...storm magic...but I...uh, mainly stick to wind".
She wondered if conjuring a mini tornado would suffice as showing off. She supposed it could, as it was her nerves had the air circling rapidly beneath her feet, between her nerves and her general social anxiety her powers were geared up to run off the charts. What started as a small whirlwind soon grew more intense, kicking up the dust in the room as a funnel like shape began to stretch toward the ceiling. It micro wind tunnel stretched above Tempest's head, the windows rattled in their frames and the funnel began to darken as it got faster.
Seeing this Tempest let out a gasp and landed on the ground, all at once the wind stopped, leaving the classroom eerily silent, and Tempest blushing bright red from embarrassment.
What a way to make a good impression on new and old faces alike.
