Chitchat Chat for hockey fans

Yea, rough year for the Canadiens on all fronts, including goaltending. Monty and Allen can only do so much for the team, lol.

And hell yea, Allez Montreal man.

And yea, I mean think of how much it irks me being an Isles fan. They scored the game winning goal of game 7 with 6 guys on the ice..... Cheating fraud franchise. Stamkos is the only respectable guy on that team.
Yeah that’s true lol. Just not the same without Price, happens though. Rough drop off indeed, couldn’t have guessed it myself after the 21 run.

Oh yeah let’s go. Brings back memories of games with Ottawa over the years tbh. Honestly a lot of old memories with different rivalries in hockey comes to mind as of late, but that’s definitely one, even if it’s not the main like with Boston.

Oh yeah lol. I can imagine very well I think, well, mostly with Yankees/Astros as a comparison from a few years back. Lol. As much as I don’t like them I gotta admit Stamkos is alright and a pretty solid, actually great player to have on the squad.

Yea certainly. Price was a HUGE part of that Habs team. Ducharme sucked and held back Cole Caufield, so glad they got rid of him and fired him. But man, holy hell, has Caufield BLOWN UP under MSTL's coaching. That kid is ON FIRE and was robbed a Calder by Ducharme.

Yes to that. There's always those teams ur team has like a slight rivalry with, like the isles and Pens. Not as fun or intense as a Rangers vs Isles rivalry, but still pretty intense and fun to watch (although forget tonight......)

Also yea, I hate Tampa, but Stamkos and Vasy are excellent players.

Also just saw Xbox was still having a sale with NHL 22 with my pass ive got. So heavily considering it with the allotted space I have to fit it going by the GB needed. 28 bucks ain’t bad for a 22 game.

Oh hell yea! Snag that! I got my copy of NHL 22 for a similar price. Definitely not worth $60, but a steal at $28.

Be a pro is so fun, you gotta do it man.

Nice! Glad it’s working out like this for Cole. Crazy how huge a coach can make a difference for young players or any player and their game. It still sometimes surprises me even though I’ve seen time and time again. Plenty of young players still out there who could be awesome but get labeled as a bust or scrub before really giving them a shot. A great comeback and birds up to the doubters for him lol.

Oh yeah very true. Oilers/Flames is awesome too and can be pretty intense plus fun to watch. But plenty of good ones out there to enjoy still. That’s true. Yeah, tonight forgetting that one for Pens & Isles. The Wild have some fun ones too but can’t say they compare to Flames/Oilers for me.

Agreed

Yeah definitely think I gotta get it! Haven’t played a NHL game in years and that’s a great deal. I spent a bit already with my KD Shoes and WVU hoodie. But thinking I’m going to still get it before the sale ends.

Playing the Be a Pro mode would be a lot fun. I enjoy those kinda things especially when done right. I’ll be rusty for sure but looking to get it for sure. I imagine the draft process is workouts then drafted by teams in the range your projected right? Or is it pretty much picking your team every time? Sports career modes like that tend to vary from year to year and game to game in my experience.

On a side note:

What do you think of the leagues expansion team of Seattle? I know they are struggling record wise but haven’t seen or heard much yet myself to have too much of a opinion. Definitely not getting the Knights expansion treatment lol.

Yea man. I love Cole Caufield. Plus, I can't help but love him because he owns the Toronto Maple Leafs and whenever he scores, he goes against the glass and taunts and celebrates in front of Leafs fans lmao, it's amazing. Love him, he's a great personality and player to have around for the Canadiens.

Also lmao fair purchases right there.

And it's kinda complicated. I'm gonna send a separate message explaining how the draft works in NHL 22. Basically, it sucks lol.

Lol nice! Kids got the swag and personality! That’s awesome always fun to see. Agreed, definitely a good pick by the Canadiens. Beating the maple leafs never hurts either.

Haha true. I’d justify it with they were running a discount code site wide lmao. But I’d be bias yet definitely would agree.

Oh yeah? Ok appreciate it lol. Now I’m curious at how bad it is.

Ok so basically how the draft works: you can start in 2 leagues, either a European league or the one in Canada that plays for the Caulder Memorial Cup or whatever it's called. But it literally doesn't matter which league you choose to start off in or what team you play for at all. So, here's where the draft system sucks. You can play like absolute shit, I'm talkin' Zdeno Chara in 2022 shit, and even if you have one little tiny point in all of the games in the minors, you get drafted either 1st or 2nd overall. In NHL 22, the 1st pick is Buffalo, and the 2nd pick is Seattle. So basically, if you have one brain cell, you're getting drafted 1st or 2nd overall. So that means if you chose to go thru the minors and go thru the draft process, you have two choices: either the Buffalo Sabres or the Seattle Kraken. I don't wanna play for Buffalo so I picked to go 2nd overall by bombing the interview with Buffalo and I got drafted 2nd over all in the first round by the Seattle Kraken.

Honestly, if you don't mind this, then great. But if this is annoying to you, I suggest you do one of two things. Go undrafted and either pick a team you like, like the Minnesota Wild, or do what I did once and just pick a conference and rapidly flick the Xbox joystick with ur eyes closed until you stop and it lands on a team, and go with them. Also, if you go undrafted as opposed to going thru the minors and getting drafted, it literally doesn't matter and won't have an effect on your career. Dw about that. It just effects where you'll be playing for your first 3 years with an ELC.

Alright so I see what you mean. Sounds like a hybrid of recent 2K’s with 22 included. Going straight to the draft and skipping college or G league is about the only way to avoid the top Two picks owned by Detroit and Houston in nba’s Mycareer this year. I’ve tried the self sabotage method in college many times and rarely works as planned. But yeah, this is making sense to me. thanks!

This all good to know! Don’t know if I would want to play for either of the top two teams in the draft. I’d likely look at rosters after deciding on a position and go from there, that what I do when it comes to other sports mycareer modes. Wild or Flames would likely be the first choices if I went the undrafted method. Good to know it doesn’t effect your career though, some games have and it kinda sucks sometimes pending the game and drawbacks.

Oof that sucks NBA does that too. Self sabotaging also doesn't seem to work in NHL 22 either, no matter how hard you try you always go 1st or 2nd overall.

And yea, definitely would be smart to start with the Wild or the Flames for your rookie years tbh.

In other news, sadly Islanders legend Mike Bossy has passed away after his battle with lung cancer. :(

Yeah they do. Kinda sucks since the college can be nice for badge progress and etc and it’s preferable to G league imo. But yeah they do, CPU teammates tend to play completely different then normal just to keep the W in place and advance to the next round of the tournament. SMH. It’s almost funny to me.

That would be cool. I might change it pending the results of this first look at MYC or Be A Pro I mean. First playthrough got a Left Wing trying the Playmaker archetype, not going to lie actually took me awhile deciding on the archetype. A couple that I was high on at first looks but Playmaker definitely looked like a pretty solid all around choice and probably fitting as well.

Oh man, that’s sad. :closedeyescryingfrown: Another loss in the sports world as of late.

Yea it's an awful year for hockey, and just the Isles in general. First, Clark Gillies (I went to the game in UBS where we did the tribute for him since he died on Jan 21st and the game was Jan 22nd), then Jean Potvin, and now the great Mike Bossy. Montreal is a classy organization, I suspect they'll have a nice moment of silence for him, plus he was a QB native.

Yeah I remember the Clark Gillies passing. I was watching Boomer & Gio the morning that followed or around that time, Boomer was good friends with the guy and was talking about him. Awesome tributes though wouldn’t surprise me if the Montreal organization does something.

Martin St.Louis as coach of the Canadiens (temporarily forgot) makes sense to me the rise of Cole in Montreal. Great wing in his day and now coaching least in the interim has gotta be a great fit. Besides the play speaking for itself.

Yea exactly. Two great guys in Clarkie and Bossy. So sad they've passed. Mike Bossy was only 65, lung cancer took his life, devastating.

I know it's awful. So sad man, two excellent human beings and AMAZING hockey players.
Definitely yeah.

Got a question for you if you don’t mind, What Archtypes have you tried in NHL 22? There are a few I liked, but curious which one might be the all around best and most fun to play or if that even makes much difference. (The build system and player tree is going to take me a bit to adjust to compared to other games)

Oh good question. Ok so in NHL 21, I know I went like with a Zdeno Chara build lmao. That took FOREVER and a lot of playing to get him good and somewhat of a fast skater, but now (if I still played on that file) his slap shots are KILLER. Unbeatable. Plus he was excellent at laying HUGE hits. He was an enforcer I think.

My NHL 22 guy was like small and fast and a sniper, more of a goal scorer. It's honestly down to you and your preference. Do you wanna start off as a tiny little guy getting thrown up and down the ice and getting flattened by everyone else, but also being a fast skater and mainly a goal scorer? Or do you wanna score less goals and be able to destroy your opponents and be a physical presence for your team? My NHL 21 BAP was the second option and my NHL 22 was the first. There's more play styles than that but that's kinda just my little way of explaining it to you here. It's honestly all down to your preference. Hope that helped and definitely ask me if you have any more questions or are confused lol.

Alright cool. And Oh wow, Zdeno Chara build? I’d imagine that’s a tough build. RL Chara could be a beast with his size alone. But in game making a build like him would be tough.

Ok, so with my first build I put together last night rather late into it like 2-3 am. I was going back and forth between Sniper, Playmaker & 2-Way initially. Kinda looked at the others but so far those 3 archtypes appealed to me the most. Guess I was thinking along the lines of a Jerome Iginla type build, also some of these player examples are interesting when looking through the archetypes. But, first try went with the playmaker seemed fitting like I mentioned for what I wanted overall while covering a fair bit of ground starting out too. (Though I definitely could be wrong as basically a newbie to the game and this setup)

However I might make a second one to hit the nhl quicker with team selection and revisit the archtypes. Especially after talking with you about this topic. But yes, definitely helps and I’ll definitely hit you up with more questions as they come. It’s appreciated! Between your two builds I’d say I’m somewhere in the middle with Iginla the player I’d likely model my preferred build after though it’s been awhile since seeing him play and mostly recall his days with Calgary. Bring some physicality and finesse with ability to score. Though racking up assists is always welcome.

First game after deciding to take the memorial cup route with the Hitmen of Calgary, since I hadn’t played since probably 14? Maybe? Around that or slightly later after 14 came out. Taking a little extra time to get game ready while exploring the Pro mode. But yeah, the playmaker early on seems nice managed 2 goals & 4 assists first game in a blowout win. Overall the defense and offense was there although passing I was given a low grade…. Area to improve I guess with upgrades and time adjusting to it all.

But man it would be nice to get faster lol. I went 6’4 205’ish with the playmaker-winger.

Well it was more of an exaggerated Big Z build. He was 6'9 and 282 lbs if I remember correctly. He was HUGE.

And yea, it takes a while to develop ur player and to make them good but wait till the near end of your rookie year and you'll start seeing results. Just takes a bit of waiting and playing.

6'4 205 lbs winger sounds solid tbh, you'll have to let me know how it goes.

Oh and here's one other thing about BAP that irks me. They like always automatically make you captain of the team after like 2 or 3 years, it's awfully unrealistic.

Yeah he was huge. I remember him being around that size as well. But still solid play with the build especially with how it turned out for you and the grind to get it there.

True. I honestly hadn’t thought about what the archtypes for other spots may be like but would be interesting to check out. Goalie/defenseman and etc would be something to look at as well. But true, it will take a bit looking forward to the results though. The customization is looking good for BAP from what I’ve seen going through the first build and kinda looking at the skill points and tree descriptions for it.

I’ll do that. Winger even outside of the Iginla build type was pretty automatic for me. While the size guess I went off a in between I guess with a little taking from rl. Couldn’t remember what Iginla was listed as at the time. Though honestly the other spots are intriguing to me. I’ll let you know though, early feels for the build is nice, didn’t really mess with skate style though that’s a whole other level to me lol.

Wow, really? That’s odd and not realistic to me either. Although NFL has a odd way of naming team captains sometimes usually just cause of position like QB so rookies sometimes if not often get that role. But otherwise it’s not realistic.
