"A formation is most desirable. I trust you John with guarding the rear. The middle ought to be the safest." He said, agreeing with Aedrianna despite her evident hesitation. Whatever was up ahead, he wasn't sure if any one of them could take it out. Sofar, it seemed a desirable one. With him and Baharius at the front and John at the back. The boy had proven quite sturdy.

As Kota introduced himself, Marcus let the Beastkin move ahead of him and utilize his eyes in some attempt to pierce the darkness. "Use your talents. My eyes are insufficient" He said simply. Sadly, it didn't seem as though he could pierce through whatever this was. The darkness seemed almost animated and alive, making Marcus wonder if perhaps it wasn't true darkness or perhaps some type of Mana power. Soon it didn't matter as it swirled around all of them and crawled up to the ceiling -- making the room around them visible.

He looked down.

Rats scurried along the ground as they began to pool around an as of yet unrevealed figure in the center of the room. "Your target in somewhere there." He pointed to where the rats were beginning to converge with his sword.

However, something was coming. The ground beneath their feet.

"It strikes from below. Defend together." Marcus braces himself as he watches an attack come from below. [Defend]

STOMP

His armored boot hits the ground as he takes up a defensive stance. A moment is spent in anticipation before an explosion of rats comes out from the ground beneath his feet. The air around Marcus' blade displaced as he swung. The blade sang at it and cut through the air, seeking to slam into the rats and swat them aside. It was a familiar motion to one accustomed to meeting the arrows of the Fae mid-flight. [Intercept F] He raised up his armored arm to block anything that made it past his sword. [Defend]

His defense was something that cut into but one part of the attack. He'd seek to combine his defense with that of others, so that the entire team may be spared from the incoming attacks.

Aedrianna walked with a nervous grace. Her ice-blue eyes flickered with anxiety as she moved to the middle of the group, just as Marcus suggested. She tried to avoid bumping into anyone, her delicate frame trembling slightly with each step. The oppressive darkness around them seemed almost alive, sending shivers down her spine.

Her breath hitched as she took in every shadowy detail, the dim light playing tricks on her senses. Suddenly, Marcus stomped his foot, the sound reverberating through the room like a thunderclap. "Defend together," he warned.

Startled, Aedrianna's heart raced. She instinctively raised her hands in a defensive gesture, a small spark of light magic igniting around her fingers, casting a soft, ethereal glow. The magic flickered like a candle in the wind, illuminating her frightened yet determined face. She stood her ground, trying to summon all her courage, her light shimmering faintly in the darkness.

As John walked along the rear, he felt kinda safe for the moment. Usually he’d be terrified of all the darkness and the dangers that lie within, but not today. If anything, those poor folks at the front would probably run into the monster first! Telling himself that, he was able to calm himself for the most part.

That was when the ground started rumbling, and rats burst out from it all of a sudden! "AGHHH!" The boy cried out in fear. There were many of them, and they were disgusting! When Marcus gave the command to defend together, he’d spread his arms wide open to try covering for the others, while bracing himself for the incoming explosions.

As Baharius walked around the front of the group, gazing into the darkness before them, he braced for whatever was to come next. His senses didn't pick anything too potent, but he would hear multiple squeaking noises coming from what sounded like all around them. He assumed these were your typical rats; the grungy non-sentient rodents rustling in the background looking for scraps. Though as he stepped on the stone platform with everyone else, he immediately sensed something was wrong. The darkness engulfed them, surrounding them in a wall of pure darkness as it ominously foretold of their next encounter before subsiding...

And standing before them were the rats. And there were A LOT of them. Seemingly THOUSANDS of them all lined up, ready to engage. Then came the laughter; maniacally echoing through the room. Baharius snarled as he monitored the situation closely, holding his great sword in anticipation for the battle ahead. But the rats on the edge of the platform wouldn't attack, no.

They would erupt from right below them.

The knight would alert them of the situation, prompting Baharius to engage in a defensive posture. Raising his blade, he braced himself as the rats burst from the ground. However, it was quickly clear that these were no ordinary rats. For shortly after they would explode in a mana-enriched burst. The saurian grunted as he attempted to shield himself as best he could, though he would also incorporate his tail to swipe away at any rats that were behind him. Hopefully it might even help to deflect some away form his nearby party mates.

Griffin reacted as best as he could, and thought about needing to invest in learning a defense skill that didn’t just cover up the sounds he made. He doubted that would be useful here. Little more than the warning of a knight to alert them all of imminent danger. It would swirl around Ordella in a cylindrical vortex to protect her from the volatile rats and dampen the force of the explosions; a light growl emanating from the tempest.

When the smog finally faded, it would reveal who- if anyone- remained standing after the ratmancer's initial assault.

The plume of rats continued to spew as the group valiantly swung his sword around through the air; Aedrianna moved to the center of the group while Baharius moved to the front of the group. While the group was able to fend off the strikes from the rats, there was an unexpected side effect of Baharius's and Aedrianna's actions that could spell doom for the group. Griffin shot into the rats with his shot, Ordella's mists swirled around cutting through the rats like butter. John's guard at the moment was unbreakable as the rats that did manage to get to him bounced off with their explosions rattling the field. The group had successfully managed to defend against the Ratmancer's attack to which there was a little bit of surprise about that in the eyes of the ratmancer.

However, as Baharius continued to defend, he used his tail to whip it around. He hit not only the rats but also Aedrianna, Ordella, Kota, and Griffin, while Marcus was able to brush off the attack, John was just out of range enough to not get hit. The Ratmancer, seeing one of the party members go down, took the initiative as he slammed his fists on the ground and sent 5 waves of rats at the group, 6 5-foot-tall wave of rats. Following up, he rushed up to Baharius, who was at the front of the group, and went in for 2 punches with his rat-covered body armor looking to make a dent in the large creature.

Meanwhile, the seas of rats continued to squeak and echo across the chamber to an almost deafening sound on top of the explosions that had happened. Though with heightened hearing, they would feel as if they were locked in a tiny room playing loud music for a long period of time until the explosions from the rats subsided. But at the moment it looked like the ratmancer wasn't going to give up, "Yes, my pretties, yes, yes!" He maniacally repeated over and over again with a laughter that only a mother could love and even that was pushing it.

Rats washed over his armored form like a screeching tidal wave. He'd cut through explosions on more than one occasion, left him with an almost unique feeling of disgust.

However, catastrophe soon struck.

Another blast wave erupted not from the rat mage but from one of his own teammates. Marcus stumbled in place for a second before catching his footing and shielding his ears from the loud noise of Baharius' tail slap. Adrenaline surged through mind and body -- as time seemed to almost slow down. A quick glance back and he soon processed that Aedrianna. Marcus' eyes narrowed in a building rage. It wasn't uncommon for him to lose a teammate outright and even though this was all a simulation, it felt real in the moment. It boiled him inside.

"Watch it, you fucking fool." He growled to the dinosaur -- Marcus' voice loud and firm. This had been the first time he'd ever sworn since stepping into the training area.

Yet he sets his feelings aside. "Eyes forward, Baharius." The last thing he needed was for anyone more to fall.

Yet in his anger, his eyes went forward to the true threat. What's done is done. They had more to worry about. The threat before them did not stop or give them a moment to mourn in the face of tragedy. A sword pointed as a visible motion for all to see at the approaching ratmancer.

"He comes. Attack. Show him strength." With that, Marcus prepares both body and mind. Sword and spear were held at the ready, waiting to be swung in tandem. And within his mind, he recited prayer to focus righteous rage.

Owl accompanied Minerva, grant me wisdom. Serpent taming Asclepius, grant me health. Thunder throwing Jupiter, lend me your strength.

In those frozen moments, Marcus burst forward to meet an attack with one of his own. The ratmancer potentially being in striking range made Marcus go on the offensive, meeting the man's approach with utter, unbridled aggression.

SHINK

With his sword, he sought to slice through the wave of rats headed towards him and knock it aside. However, rather than a purely defensive motion as it was before, Marcus very well sought to counter his attack with his own.

SWISH SWISH

When the sword had finished, the spear stabbed forward -- seeking to make a new home for itself in his intestines. The second sword came promptly after; Marcus' hips channeled his body's momentum into the blade and sought to chop into the ratmancer's head.

Little of the Man-At-Arms expression can be gleaned from the beast-shaped helmet he wore. But the target might yet catch a glimpse of bloodshot eyes, dilated with adrenaline. From the corner of his eyes, he could see the man launching follow-up attacks on Baharius. Yet his eye did not budge an inch away from his target.

The party held strong against The Ratmancer's initial attack, but no one expected a follow-up from one of their own.

Baharius' tail slammed into her back and forced a gasp out of Ordella as the air was, quickly literally, knocked out of her lungs. She fell forward onto a knee with teeth grit, and the pain began to set in as soon as she got her bearings. Did she want to get back up on her feet again at that moment? No. But the encroaching wave of rats didn't allow for even a moment's rest.

"Cheshire."

And she would cast [Cheshire's Fury].

Smoke erupted from her lantern once more, and converged above her; a phantom of black smog in the form of a panther materialized overhead. A roar blared throughout the area. And without a moment's hesitation, the phantom charged into the approaching wave of rats and began to cleave through it with vorpal claws. And, should it manage to disrupt the incoming assault, then it pounce upon The Ratmancer and cleave into his flesh with those very same claws.

Some of the lingering smoke left in Cheshire's wake would return to The Undertaker and soak into her flesh, working to alleviate the ache in her back and begin to
[Heal] the damage that she'd sustained.

Ordella would then shift her attention over to Aedrianna, the one fallen member in their party. In a gentle motion, she would swing her lantern over her body, leaving a trail of purifying smoke above her body. It would descend upon her and soak into her flesh. It would fill her lungs, embolden her flesh, and give her the strength to rise. It would
[Heal] her body. But it could not make her rise and continue the fight.

"On your feet, Aedrianna. We haven't lost just yet."

For that was a decision that Ms. Belmonte would have to make for herself.

Actions (3/3):
1) Countered [Rat Pumble] with [Cheshire's Fury].
2) Used
[Healing F] on herself.
3) Used
[Healing F] on Aedrianna.
Cheshire’s Fury- Magic E, Energized E, Spirit Affinity F, Vorpal F, Magic Range F- Ordella channels the spirit of her long deceased cat, Cheshire, into the smoke produced from the inextinguishable flame within her lantern. As spirit melds with smoke, an effigial phantom in the form of a giant sut-black panther materializes and sprints upon the air as though it were earth. Sometimes in whole. Sometimes only portions of its body materialize. The phantom can travel up to 30 feet away from Ordella to claw at a target before dissipating back into her lantern.- Grade E- 0 post cooldown.

Int D (3) + The Cheshire Lantern [Magic Catalyst E] (2) + Ability E (2) = 7 Effectiveness.

As the rats bounced off John, he was thankful that they weren’t strong enough to hurt him. Turns out this ratmancer guy wasn’t all that tough after all. That was when he witnessed Baharius slamming his tail into his fellow allies, resulting in a scolding from Marcus. Damn, the metal man sure was pretty scary when he got angry! Although why did the big beast attack his allies in the first place?! John did not know the reason for it, but he had more important things to deal with in the meantime as there were more rats coming!

With the wave of rats heading his way, the boy’s mouth widened in disbelief at the sight before him. How disgusting! No way was he gonna let any of those vile creatures near him! Readying his fists, he launched 3 ranged punches right into the wave of rats.

A wave of relief would wash over Kota as they managed to defend against the initial Mana explosion, however, what came next was unexpected as Baharius’s tail cleanly smacked into Kotas core causing him to stumble. He would wince as he clenched his side, looking towards the dinosaur with a glare. He would look down to see Aedrianna out cold on the ground, before he could open his mouth Marcus had already let his disdain be known. Baharius held his own against the exploding mana rats, feeling his tail swatting them away like flies. Though somehow, perhaps in his attempt to truly clear out his overall position, he began twirling around him in a 360 degree manner. He'd feel multiple larger bodies being slapped with his tail... which was oddly concerning. More so that it coupled with grunting and cursed yells being thrown at his direction. When he finally reared up to see the commotion... he realized a critical error in his lapse of judgement. A sharp jab from Marcus cleared his consciousness, as his eyes widened upon seeing what he wrought. He threw his weight around too much; resulting in nearly everyone around him - save for little John - having been knocked by his long webbed tail.

And his blunder already downed one of the party members.

"SHIT!" the saurian bellowed with rage and shame, "My bad!" They were already off to a bad start; by his own hand (er, tail) no less. Marcus would help redirect his focus, ordering him by name to keep his eyes forward on the target. The saurian agreed; acknowledging with a firm nod. What he did was no doubt a mistake. But he'll make sure it's his ONLY mistake. After all, there was something far more grave barreling down at them. They had to go on the attack. They would show him true strength. For the sake of his companions they must.

"With pleasure."

But first, they had to survive what the Ratmancer had to throw at them. Several wave of rats rushed towards them, being tall enough to encompass anything under 5 feet. And Baharius was among the first inline. Yet instead of striking it with his blade, Baharius utilized his hook-like claws as he lunged forth with a Ripping Claw to try and break through the abhorrent wall of rats. Shortly after he would come face to face with the Ratmancer himself, whom he snarled at with bared teeth.

His foe came rushing in, with his fist raised before issuing two consecutive punches with his horrendous rat-covered body armor. The lumbering saurian proceeded to block both attacks, feeling them strike against his heavy bronze armor. Yet his sheer bulk and armor would be enough to bear the brunt of the strikes, even as the ratmancer laughed maniacally at his pretties doing the work for him regarding the others. He had a feeling that getting hit by his... disease-ridden armor would be fairly detrimental, which is why instead of striking he attempted to block them instead.

Thankfully, he wasn't alone - seeing Marcus come up and attempt to strike the ratmancer alongside their other nearby allies. Baharius, meanwhile, will shed blood in a little bit...

The body on the ground convulsed, as Ordellas smoke climbed into its lungs. Breathing in second life to Aedrianna. She choked and sputtered, rolling over onto her stomach, in confusion even as Ordella coaxed her to stand up. She didn't really know what had happened. One second, she'd been standing behind Marcus, holding up her magic to try and defend herself. The next thing she knew she was on the floor staring up at darkness. She hadn't practiced with her magic much. So, it was still all very new to her. Just adjusting the proper mana flow and understanding the power that was coming from her was confusing enough. Perhaps she'd messed up, and ended up on the ground, because she wasn't using it right. How embarrassing. Was she really so weak? Everyone sounded so angry. She blinked a few times, willing the bleariness to go away. And yet as soon as she was able to focus and regain her senses in the dark room, she released a panicked Shriek. She made direct eye contact with a rat. Not but a few inches from her face. She scrabbled away, Kicking desperately at the ones nearest her. Using her magic again was asking for more trouble. She'd already been picked up twice now. There was a flush of embarrassment and a brief flash of rage as the little beasts continued their onslaught. She hadn't managed to pick herself off the ground yet, still coughing some of that magic smoke up and feeling a little woozy. Regardless she shot her legs out desperately to keep the rodents away from her. Reaching out with her hand, her eyes squeezing shut as she grabbed one that had come too close to her and threw it away with a vengeance.

The Rat waves surged at their targets, Marcus used his shield as the rat wave made contact with him, as he felt the biting of the rats and quickly started to feel as if he was starting to get sick. However, his hacking and slashing tore away at the Ratmancer's armor, leaving some holes that were slowly filling back in as the squealing of rats was heard with each strike. Ordella was the next one to take action. She sent her smoke toward the waves of rats and healed herself and those around her. However, the rat wave surged and sallied over the smoke she had sent from her lantern, and she, too, felt sick as she collapsed to the ground from the attack. Unlike the previous strikes, John's punches did seemingly little to the rats this time around as the wave collapsed into him as he felt several rats biting at him, making him feel sick.

This time around it might have been beneficial to bring multiple waves together; when Kota went to move and attack, the rats seemingly shifted around his attacks as the wave of rats struck him as he felt their claws and teeth pierce his skin, feeling sick before he collapsed. Griffin's quick shooting, on the other hand, was able to disperse the rats as they squealed in pain from the shots from his arrows. Baharius swung his claws at the rat wave that was coming toward him, though once again the rats bite into the lizardman as he started to feel sick. However, the punches were blocked much to the annoyance of the Ratmancer. "Just die you oversized lizard!" The Ratmancer shouted hysterically as there was blood lust in his eyes.

For Adrianna, as she stood up and the rat waves collided with those closest to her, her kicking and punching only did so much as a rat bit her leg and fell to the ground unconscious once again. The ratmancer started to laugh as he watches several members of the group go down leaving only a handful still standing. "Come my pretties! Lets go!" He shouted as he started to punch the one he deemed to be his largest threat Baharius once again.

The Arena

Damn it all.

The plan of attack had simply gone awry. There was no time for blame, for himself or for others. The Ratmancer presses on in the sign of weakness. He can feel blades chipping away at the screaming creatures only for more to grow in their place. Knowledge of medicine had taught him that he was sick.

It practically felt like it was all happening to him again. Another wave of rats came in, and one by one, his teammates began to fall all around him. He recalled the day he had been attacked and had his team killed off in part by a monster. He'd managed to distract it and get mauled by the creature in turn before barely managing to escape. Would the same thing happen here?

No. I wish to save them.

The fact that this was a mere simulation, a dream was utterly lost onto him. It had all felt so real, prompting him to treat as though it were. He barely knew anyone here in a manner beyond their first name. Yet he instinctively thought of each and every one of them as his "team" regardless of their point of origin. If this one wasn't stop, they'd for all intents and purposes be rat food in Marcus mind.

Thus the only path was forward. With a sheathed sword, he lowered his head and undid his helmet. The blackened, beast shaped helmet fell to the floor unceremoniously bouncing and rolling along the ground.

Clank clank.......

With his helmet removed, one could see his horridly scarred visage. A consequence of horror survived.

And he simply had hoped to be able to grab the right thing to cure this. With his face exposed, he knocked back a drinkable medicine before tossing it aside. Then he took an herbal remedy and simply poured it into the hole made in his armor where his wound was. It stung as it washed over, and they sought to work with that orally ingested medicine to treat him of the blight. It hurt, but he wouldn't know as to whether or not it worked until after

It burns.

He watched with enraged eyes as the ratmancer screamed annoyingly. With two hands, he clutched his spear and with the swing of his hips.

WOOSH WOOSH

With two swings, Marcus would draw an "X" on the ratmancer with his spear, seeking to cleaver through more of the rats and craft an opening through which the others might yet be able to attack.

His teeth grit. His eyes were bloodshot and locked onto naught but the abominable "man" before him. He didn't know if there was much more to be said. Now was the time to either to destroy the enemy or die a fool. Yet even in these dire times, he would not stop until he was made to stop. Until he could physically simply...not swing anymore.

Despite slashing into the incoming rat wave, it wouldn't be enough to prevent himself from getting bit by several of these furry filths. Their gnawed teeth penetrated into his tough hide, injecting whatever rotten bacterial diseases into his system. The saurian began to feel sick, but it wouldn't deter him from the fight at hand. Neither would the Ratmancer's feeble attempt to get through his armor do anything but merely tickle at best. It very much angered him, throwing a fit about it like a child screaming how he should just die.

"I AM NO MERE LIZARD, PLAGUESPAWN." Baharius bellowed, pointing a clawed finger at his foe, "YOU STAND BEFORE A TRUE ALPHA PREDATOR. AND YOU WILL KNOW MY BLOODLUST!"

He was too focused on him to realize others in his party were already beginning to drop like flies; hearing several scream and shout as rats attempted to swarm them. Either way, he knew they had to end this fight quickly. The only defense now was an equally, if not stronger, offense. Eying a now helmetless disfigured Marcus rushing behind his current foe, ready to slash into the back of the Ratmancer, Baharius snorted as he readied himself for his foe's next assault.

As the first punch flew towards him, Baharius countered with a Bite, opening his crocodile-like mouth to bite into his shoulder with savage force. His needle-sharp conical teeth would attempt to pierce deep into his rat-armor. Assuming Marcus would slash into the Ratmancer's back next, Baharius would then swing his blade towards him before using his entire strength to lift his opponent into the air with his blade.

As the wave of rats collapsed onto John, he felt his stomach churning from the sickness. Glancing back at the others, he’d find most of them had been downed already. Damn it! Was he going to be next?! When he got out of here, that lunatic priestess was sure as hell gonna pay! Seeing as how the ratmancer had poured all his focus on Baharius, John would unleash 3 of his punches onto the ratmancer with his ranged punches.

The group continued to whale on the Ratmancer, with several of the attacks being deflected off the ratmancer's armor. He continued to laugh maniacally as his laughter started to grow more distant. Despite the fact that they were still right in the middle of the fight. Marcus would be able to partially cleanse the blight, though there were still some lingering aftereffects where he felt slightly sick to his stomach.

As the final attacks collided with the ratmancer, there was a bright, blinding flash of light that enveloped the whole area, and everyone heard a snap of some fingers. The whole group opened their eyes and saw they were in the very same room they had entered the machine in. Eris opened the door and walked into the room, if they looked around they would notice there was no other door int he room. Begging the question of how exactly had they experienced several rooms.

"I think the testing was a success, now how did the whole experience feel?" Eris inquired as she pulled out some paper to start taking notes on.

Fully in the moment, Baharius continued wailing on the ratmancer with every mounting intensity. There was something to this test which drove him to succeed, incorporating a dose of determination as he would in any battle. Perhaps it was a means to prove his mettle. Whether it was his rocky start, or the accidental friendly fire, the saurian felt he need to atone for his unfortunate mishaps by giving it his all. Honor through combat. No matter the enemy, no matter the circumstance.

And it would seem that they were winning!

Their foe was on the cusp of defeat. And just as he was about to unleash one final savage attack... the snapping of fingers echoed through the room. Followed by a bright flash of light. Baharius covered his eyes with his burly arm, bracing himself for whatever came next! Only to find... it was over. Everyone was now back in the room where they started before entering the machine. Curiously there were no signs of any other rooms they could've entered... yet he knew they HAD to have entered through the trials. He felt it being REAL. What sort of magic did this machine wield to simulate such realistic effects? Baharius shook his head with an airy hiss, attempting to snap himself out of his dazed stupor.

Eris would walk into the room and ask them how the whole experience went, jotting down notes as everyone answered. Baharius grunted, "Real as it could be." he replied, "I know not what magics are involved, but I feel it succeeded to have you truly feel you were actually there. A world feeling much larger than it truly is. While admittedly I am somewhat disappointed regarding the final sequence, for I believed it would be longer with a more satisfying victory, I see great potential in this contraption to test future adventurers. "

The Starting Room

Marcus could feel the final being landed. And it seemed as though courtesy of Baharius. Yet in spite of this, the laughter grew ambiguous and the ratmancer's fate almost vague. He thinks that they won. And yet, without seeing a corpse, his mind began to doubt his eyes.

What really was he seeing?

The clatter of Marcus' armor was audible, and his head darted to and fro.

"What sort of trickery?!" Was about the only thing he could say as he spun around and saw he was in the room they entered the machine in. Just about all the people he had entered with were here. Though others, like the mage boy, were missing from the area. But there were familiar faces among those present. His hands felt along his head, and he could feel the metal of his helmet around his face -- it had simply never been removed.

Though to him, it was hard to tell if it had all been a dream or if he had been teleported here. All he knew was that he was fine, and seemingly, so was everyone else.

In the quiet of the room, Marcus' breathing was audible. It was like being plucked from a warzone and being placed in a field of flowers. Adrenaline was still surging, and he had to steady himself to calm down.

His eyes flickered to the door, and Eris appeared. By the time she had, Marcus had at least somewhat calmed down. He held up his spear like a staff, pointing it straight into the air. And then he spoke.

"Indeed. I have seen a fair share of battles and that one was quite...vivid. And much more difficult than most things I've done thus far." He said, this Ordeal stealing him. At the very least, he could say he made it to the end. "As Baharius said, I have a feeling the conclusion was a bit less satisfying. It was a difficult ordeal, just as it should be. It may yet prepare future adventurers for hardships and particularly difficult challenges." He took a moment to think of anything he might say about the program.

"I am unsure of if it is a victory or defeat. I would have liked to see the conclusion more clearly. That is the only critique I can think of, currently." Baharius spoke of victory. Yet Marcus was not so sure. He liked to see a corpse before he could declare such a thing. At the same token, Marcus saw value in experiencing falling in battle. Everything didn't always go one's way. And to be used to falling can make one dread it a little less. He had been defeated before and yet in a way, it made his mind more clear. The possibility of death or defeat resting within his mind made it feel as though he lived in a realm of truth and realism -- when tempered with the victories he'd achieved.

"That is all."

As the ratmancer suddenly turned to light before their very eyes, the group found themselves back a room. John waggged a finger as Eris entered the room. “There you are, you damned demonic priest! Ohhh, it was fun… Totally fun alright. Especially the part where I got my ass burnt countless times crossing the path! I almost became barbequed myself! Not to mention all the disgusting rats in the final stage… I mean seriously, how am I supposed to fight when I feel like throwing up half the time?” He yapped away, recounting all the horrid experiences he had been through at the hands of the demon priest. However, metal man Marcus wasn’t sure if they had won or not.

“Welp, the ratmancer vanished into thin air soooo, I guess I’ll take it as a victory then!” John grinned at the metal man. He then smirked at Eris. “Come on, couldn’t you have made the final boss just a little bit harder? Also, what kind of boss turns into light upon dying? We should have seen him drop dramatically to the ground or something. 0/10 for the final scene.”

The last thing Aedrianna had seen was a swarm of rats, an overwhelming tide of vermin crawling over her. She had been powerless to help herself, let alone anyone else around her. Darkness enveloped her once more, bringing with it a torrent of helplessness, self-loathing, and frustration.

As consciousness returned, the world around her began to take shape. The simulation room materialized, its familiar walls and the confused faces of her companions grounding her in reality. It had all been an illusion, a cruel trick of magic more potent than any technology she remembered from Earth. Aedrianna sighed deeply, closing her eyes and tilting her head back, staring at the ceiling above. The weight of her inadequacy pressed down on her.

Twice she had fallen, swept aside like a mere doll in the chaos. Her hand trembled as she brushed a stray blonde hair from her face, the simple motion a reminder of her vulnerability. She focused on her breathing, each inhale and exhale a deliberate effort to keep her composure. Tears would solve nothing; they would not make her stronger or more capable.

If she truly aspired to be an adventurer, there was much she needed to improve. The path ahead was daunting, but there was no room for self-pity. Determination flickered within her, a fragile flame she desperately clung to. A hesitant smile tugged at her lips as she exhaled another sigh, the weight on her chest beginning to lift.

There was no time for crying anymore. She needed to grow stronger, to become someone who could stand tall amidst the chaos. This was just the beginning of her journey.
