Derek kept wiping his eyes until they were raw and puffy. Damn it. Why am I like this? Holding his hands over his eyes, the son of the sky god inhaled and exhaled, blocking out the memory of the old woman with the reassuring smile at the park under a light identical to what you'd see on a football field. Derek remembered being absolutely horrified of this woman until she spoke to him with a soft, nurturing voice. "You look just like him." Derek remembered her saying in a weak voice. The woman had wild eyes, but Derek was just six and naive. He trusted anyone that said they were a friend of his mom's and knew his dad. "In fact, I know him better than most." Hera had told him, though Derek had no idea what that meant at the time. Within seconds of that moment, Derek had taken out the field lamp in that moment of nervousness and followed Hera to a cliff, where the goddess had convinced him that he was finally going to meet Zeus. Derek remembered bending over to look at the base of the cliff, where a river of blue and green flowed. Hera giggled softly. "Yes, little hero, he loves you so much. Why don't we find out if you have any other similarities to him?" In his mind, Derek remembered firm hands push him off the cliff and tumble toward the river below. Back in the present, Derek remembered how Nicanor rushed to catch him in his talons. He remembered landing safely back on the top of the mountain and his mother screaming then holding him in a bone crushing hug, looking toward the sky and thanking someone neither of them could physically see. The creature that saved him had landed nearby, but Hera was gone. A cold sweat trickled down the present Derek's spine as he came back to reality just in time for an elbow to the gut from his sister. "Ow! Aggie, what the hell?" Derek forced himself to stop shaking as he narrowed his eyes at her. Finally, it registered that his cousins were proposing a truce between the two cabins. "I do apologize to all of you. In fact, if I still had my food, I would give Hades some." His demeanor changed in an instant while speaking to the group. "What I said was highly uncalled for and I should learn to control myself. It is in my nature to want a leadership role, but leaders learn to compromise too." He held out a friendly hand, sparks flying between his fingers again. "If there was anyone that I'd want on my side on this quest, it's you. I'll have my moments, but if we are to survive in the Underworld, I'd love to hide in the shadows." Derek started to laugh. "I don't need any special attention in the domain of Hades. Nor do I want it, but it's bound to happen with as many demigods that will be going. While I am all for a truce between us, truces can only be truly discussed between cabin leaders, yes?" Derek didn't know if that was actually correct, but it made perfect sense. "I am all for a truce between us pertaining to Capture the Flag. We should enjoy this game. If we don't work together, we disband and our team shatters. The girls that turned me down will have won and I cannot stand that." Zeus' son chuckled, winking at Ivy. "All I want is to work together, win this game, and...get the first shot at Hera or any hydra we come across. Deal?"
