Absolutely. Fighting something this powerful would at the very least give him a massive rush. Especially since the opponent is, uhm, as presentable as the maidens tend to be.

And in the slim chance he wins? The bragging rights that would entail? The pitiable look on the maiden's expression? This is the kind of stuff to warm one's heart for years to come.

Did I mention self-preservation isn't a pair of words he is often concerned with?

Athanas I thought it could potentially be an interesting character arc if Akoth got absolutely fucking DESTROYED by a Maiden. (probably Ghostiiys ) to the point where it was sad to watch - Lucrezia was basically intending to kill him, but Derwin stops it for whatever reason or something - and then Akoth is like "Shit this isn't good" and then begins to train like crazy in an effort to close the GIGANTIC gap between himself and Seldanna.

Next time they fight he brings his newly found might to bare and... manages to chip her nail. It's unheard of. It's never been done.

It's a huge success.

if he thought Lucrezia wouldn't actually kill or grievously injure him, he might actually let it happen as a lesson in humility and\or an exercise to let Arkoth know they really do not play around here in Blackrock.

In the event he wanted to stop it, one way I could think of would be to stealthily ask or call in a favor with either Lucrezia herself or the maiden against whom he is pitted, but this would depend on how well he knows this person, as well as how confident he is he could ask this of the maiden without making Lucrezia\severa\ulfric even more upset with Arkoth, himself, or the maiden ordered to fight.

Another way to try and stop it might be to get Athena to cause a ruckus elsewhere that distracts everyone long enough for either Lucrezia or the maiden to get bored with the exercise or arkoth himself to run away.

Well Lucy is petty as hell - comes with the Pride territory - but she's not like, super invested in it. So if Derwin just came in and asked her to stop she'd probably just be like "okay fine tell him to be good," lol

Seldanna is wrath. But also kinda new to the whole half demon business. Perhaps Akoth makes a comment about her and she's like "Let's go" lol

How long has Seldanna been a maiden? I remember reading they're often picked from Bloodguards. If she hasn't been a maiden long and if she was a Bloodguard at the same time as Derwin before becoming one, there might be a connection there he can take advantage of too in order to intervene.

Yea she's the newest to the order , only been a dark maiden for like 3 years , She's a few years younger than him so the chances they met before she became a dark maiden are likely

Klyn is what Arkoth would consider an ideal form, but he's not nearly as sociable with anything that's not a bloodthirsty marauder or hopeless drunkard. He's a bit better at fighting though, by virtue of experience if anything.

Unmitigated chaos in a nutshell, how I'd feel the friendship would be or Klyn somewhat pushing the buttons "cause he's the type of person that can,"
Arkoth ever finds him in a hot water with the maidens, Klyn's got a relatively chill relationship with two, he can help out a fellow who likes to toe the line with trouble.

Coincidentally, Derwin was made Bloodguard captain about three years ago.

IIrc, doesn't Seldanna also use a greatsword to fight, or am I misremembering?

I wrote that Derwin received the legendary weapon he uses now, a greatsword, when he was appointed captain because it is a symbol of the office of bloodguard captain.

kinda coincidence, but it sorta also works out? Could Seldanna be the former captain, and Derwin took her place when she was made into a maiden?

Well, whether it's true or not, either way, they may know each other from around the time, so, to intervene and save Arkoth's life, he maybe just sort of asks her to spare him and hopes their old acquaintanceship\friendship is enough to persuade her.

Well, they'd still probably know each other. They've both been in Blackrock for a while. The intervention strat based on Derwin knowing her could still work for saving Arkoth, anyway.
