A sigh came out of his mouth as he was hanging the ''Grand opening!'' sign outside of the shop. It was winter, so it was freezing cold outside, with a bit of breeze. Kaneki was rolled in on a big coat and still shivering while he held up the printed sign.
Parys would get cold, like, really cold, and everyone knew that. You'd go inside someones wardrobe and see a few warm coats for these times, so, this was possibly the best time to make this business blow up, who wouldn't stop for a warm coffee on these rainy nights?!
The sign finally held up, and he went inside the shop. Kaneki waved at all his friends, who were busy fixing their own stuff, like decorating, putting up some nice, fancy paintings, and all the asthetic things you'd expect from a coffee shop.
He went to the counter and grabbed some warm coffee. He deserved it, Kaneki had been outside for about an hour decorating the outside part of the store. Hanging the promotions and all that would be ready when the finally opened the place up.
As he took a sip of the coffee, Kaneki began to think how this would go. He sees a bright future for this place, and it would be great for them to actually succeed in this place. Parys would be a place where tourists would pass by, so, they'd get possibly some good green paper.
They had began decorating at about 8:00 am, and it was 3:21 already. The time passed by flying, even tough he wasn't having fun at all, wich was rare.
Kaneki turned around and approached Theodore. He was finally at a state of peace, since all his part was done, so he went to have a quick conversation. ''How's your part going?''
Mai seemed more interested in the state of her skirt than the cafe's preparations. Smoothing out the nonexistent wrinkles for the hundredth time (give or take a few), she sighed. What a slow day, ah. The air was chill, good for business, bad for her mood. She was seated on a cafe chair with a rather pensive expression, her hair thrown carelessly in a ponytail.
Though she would never share her opinion aloud, she had no hope the cafe would succeed. Outwardly, she appeared to be the most cheerful, filled with immeasurable gusto, but that was just a facade. Idly, she watched Kaneki fiddle with the sign, but then finally put it up. As he drank coffee, Mai was reminded of her own hunger. Maybe she could Yukina for cake. Then later hear tales from Alejandra or Nanny Billy. Such fascinating women. Oh yes, she would do that.
In better mood and with food in her mind, there was a spring to Mai's step as she headed into the back kitchen. She even hummed a tune. Off-tune. But, alas, such matters did not concern her. "YUKINA. OH YUKIINAAA. Serve me please. A few slices of strawberry shortcake. But, I'm not picky. Chocolate, tiramisu, it all works." As long as it ended up in her belly, she had no qualms with the flavour.
Yumi ran out of her apartment, running completely late. She couldn't believe she overslept like she did! Usually she was always the one to be on time but, the excitement of having a new job made her not able to sleep. She made sure to at least grab a bag that was filled with her little necessities, like her hairbrush and uniform.
Once she got to Parys, she was completely out of breathe. Leaned forward with her hands on her knees gasping for air. I need to exercise more! Yumi walked into the cafe and into the bathroom to change into her uniform. When her uniform was on she looked in the mirror to see what she could do with her bed head. She ended up just throwing it up into a messy bun on top of her head and calling it good.
She walked out of the bathroom and realized it was a little a chilly and threw on a zip up sweatshirt on she had. The cafe was coming really nicely to together and she liked the cozy comforting feeling the cafe had to it. Yumi brought her bag to the back and sat it down.
Now I can begin to help! Right before she was about to ask what she could be doing, her stomach growled. She completely forgot she didn't have time to eat before she came here. Maybe they won't mind if I eat something then begin to work. She went into the kitchen hoping she would find something she was able to snack on.
Megumi awakes from her slumber, rubbing her eyes and sitting up. She checks her clock on her bedside table and stands up after pulling the white bed sheets from herself. "Oh, yeah. That new café is opening today... I think, at least." Megumi looks in the mirror, frowning and walking into the bathroom. She hops in the shower and washes herself, then brushes her teeth and combs her hair.
After this she slips on some white high-heels and a short black skirt along with a white jumper. Picking up her red lipstick and applying it to her plump pink lips Megumi stares at her clear face in the mirror, checking to see if any pimples had rose from her skin. Then Megumi picks up some eyeliner and neatly dashes it on both of her top lashlines, applying mascara (with her mouth open, of course,) and then sighing. "There." She picks up her tote bag and chucks in her phone and lipgloss, along with her purse.
"Now, I can finally go to that café that everyone's been talking about." Megumi stands up from her dressing table and pushes in the chair, turning off all the lights in her apartment and locking the door behind her with the keys that are always kept in her bag. She goes into the elevator and presses the bottom floor button, waiting for it to arrive. As soon as it does, Megumi elegantly walks to the front door and down the road, being noticed by a few fans on the way, and finally arriving at the café. "Hello?" She smiles and opens the door, tracing her eyes around the room. "Ah, did I come too early? Sorry."
Yukina was in the kitchen as always. It might as well be her second home. She rarely walked out to see the customers, but on some days where she was feeling up to it, she let herself be seen.
She tore her gaze away from the crepe she prepared moments ago to see Mai walking into the kitchen. "Good morning," she greeted. Yukina walked towards the special refrigerator, or what Yukina called (mentally), Heaven's Refrigerator. Luckily, Yukina had half of a strawberry shortcake from yesterday's cooking.
She pulled a plate from the cabinet and got a fork, placing a slice of the desired cake on the plate. "Here," Yukina said, handing Mai the plate. Yukina was never one for many words, but she did talk. Usually, she was just eating sweets behind the scenes.
Jameson grabbed his black briefcase and pulled on his heavy peacoat. With a shiver of apprehension he stepped out of the tiny apartment that was his home for the next few weeks. Or at least until the museum construction was finally done. He shouldered his way through the wind and slowly found the small café he had been searching for. With a sigh of relief he opened the door and headed to the counter. "You guys open yet?"
"Dammit, bonbons really take their sweet time to get ready, don't they?" Minato thought as he impatiently looked at the treats inside the refrigerator.
One of Minato's specialties when it came down to sweets were these small bite-size candies enrobed in chocolate treats. Seeing how they did take a fairly long amount of time before they were edible and Minato was already an impatient person to begin with, he rarely prepared them. But this was a special occasion to say the least. Not only was this his first 'real' job in a long time, but he was finally going to be able to put into practice the recipes his grandma had passed onto him. While its no surprise that Minato is lazy and rarely wants to be affiliated with hard work, he decided to wake up early and enter the cafe so that he had enough time to prepare the bonbons.
"Ah, there we go" Minato whispered to himself before removing the now solid pieces of chocolate off the fridge. "Just as perfect as I thought they would look."
After adding a few edible decorations Minato placed the bonbons on a plate and was ready to serve them, but before doing so he grabbed one of the chocolates and bit it to see how the bunch tasted. The sweet taste of chocolate immediately overflew his tastebuds and took over his mind. He wouldn't let anyone come close to his bonbons. They were his precious. While nobody was looking Minato sneaked into the and began secretly devouring the hole plate of caramel filled bonbons.
Megumi was extremely annoyed that no one had answered her question yet. If this were somewhere else, people would be crowding around her just to see what her very need is. Her eye twitched slightly and her fist formed in anger. "HELLO?" She realized the volume of her voice and took it down a notch. "I mean, is anyone going to answer my question? Haha..."
Yano stood in the corner of the room, talking on his phone about the night-shift later this evening. Maybe not talking, it was the boss who talked, the only words that left his mouth was a silent "Mm" or "Allright". The grumpy old man on the phone went on and on about how they lacked staff at the pub downtown. But they did, at the moment, there was only five or six staff members which made them all have to work a few more shifts than someone would need to. Since Yano already had trouble sleeping with his insomniatic way, he often signed up for most of the night-shifts. He was lucky though, night shifts often payed more than day ones. By the time he finished and Yano hung up, the younger one heard a voice yelling from the other side of the room. A high pitched, female voice coming from a girl dressed in a fairly classy outfit by the door. Yano glued on one of those friendly smiles he always wore and headed towards the young girl. "God morning sunshine, how may I assist you?" He said with his signature wink and smile.
Megumi's eyes fell against a manly figure across the room. She smiled, despite being annoyed, seeing as someone had actually payed attention to her presence. "Sorry. Do you know if the cafe is open, or have I come a bit too early?" She dusted off her skirt and slid her ring back into its position-the one she got from her mother. He seemed nice, but maybe Megumi overreacted and wasn't patient enough. Maybe she should have waited longer for someone to reply to her rather than shouting and acting like a spoiled brat all the time.
"Of course, come on in." Yano said and reached out his arm as a gesture of showing the room. He adjusted the white collar-shirt he wore and glanced around the room himself before turning back to the girl. He recognized her face from somewhere, but he couldn't tell where. It felt as if he had seen her before, more than once. Then he noticed those big brown eyes of hers and felt his own widen a little. She was that model he'd seen in magazines every here and there. His face lit up a little but he was quick to hide it to avoid bringing the subject up. Everyone needed a little privacy, especially those who rarely had it.
Megumi smiled and nodded, walking forwards. She had just caught him smiling about something, but nothing major had happened since SHE had walked through the door, right? 'Hahaha, that's a good one.' Megumi silently chuckled to herself while sitting down in a chair and observing the room. "It's pretty in here... Oh, and.. sorry for shouting earlier. I just got a little.. cranky."
Yano followed her towards a table and picked up a pen and a notepad. He began writing some things on it before he glanced back at the girl. "Oh don't worry about it, we've all been there." He then said with a smile. However, the lack of sleep caused the smile to fade quickly. Dark circles hung just below his eyes and his body-language revealed that he truly was exhausted. But despite that he still forced back the same smile and continued to scribble a little on the notepad while speaking. "So, what can I do for you?"
Megumi noticed the boy's tired approach. She couldn't boss him around or force him to do too much work, so she decided to just get a drink instead of forcing him to write down a lot-after all, it was the day of the week she could go off her diet! "Erm.. I'll just have a green tea, please." Megumi smiled and took out her phone, it exploding with emails and comments from fans. She frowned at the mean ones, but then quickly smiled at the ones that complemented her.
Mai ate with appreciation. "You're the best, Yukina. Maybe even better than my brother." And with that, Mai went back to devouring, ahem, eating. She was done her second slice when Yumi approached. "Ah! Yumi! Over here! Do you want some cake? You look absolutely famished." She had manifested into a greeting mother hen. And besides, who could resist Yukina's magnificent shortcakes, after all?
"I better get going." She sighed, grabbing a bonbon from a plate Minato was hoarding with stealth and ease. Such good chefs here. Definitely the right choice of workplace. With her endless appetite sated for the moment, Mai waltzed out of the kitchen. Customers seemed to slowly pouring in. Wonderful. But now, she had to serve them. She inhaled, exhaled, and put on her best smile... Until she saw Megumi. Pop star Megumi in their cafe?! Mai held down her desire to just jump the rising star. Yano was already serving her. She discreetly made a face at him as she walked by. Something like 'I'll-deal-with-you-later-don't-you-know-i-love-her-wow-meanie.'
With a slight huff, she decided to approach a professional looking male customer by the counter. Well, with his peacoat and briefcase, he certainly gave the impression of an avid book reader and a tea lover. Mai fixed her badge, the one with her name, aligning it until she was satisfied. "Hello, sir. Yes we are open. So sorry to keep you waiting. How may I serve you today?" Her smile was bright, her voice joyous enough.
"Coming right up" Yano said with a slight bow as he spun around and headed towards the counter. As he walked past Mai, his face lit up in a cheeky grin as that's-for-sitting-in-the-kitchen-eating-cake-all-day. With swift movements he reached the kitchen and looked around, searching for the barista. "Anyone seen TK?" He said in a somewhat loud voice as he walked around in the little kitchen. "I need a green tea. I would do it myself but you know how bad I am with these things"
Jameson gave her a polite smile and shook his head. "No worries, I'd just like a cup of coffee please." he paused for a moment and looked over his shoulder to the frozen window. With a bit of a grimace he turned back and, leaning a bit, read her name tag "Perhaps something to eat as well, do you have any suggestions, Mai?" He cocked his head a bit to one side and fiddled with the bit of metal in his coat pocket absentmindedly.
Megumi's phone started to ring. She hoped no one would mind her speaking out in the open. Megumi answered the call and put her phone up to her ear. "Who's speaking?" The woman on the other line replied that it was one of the biggest fashion agencies in the world, which caused Megumi's hand to shake. "REALLY!?" She said a little too loud, probably making everyone's eardrums bleed. She wrote down the phone number the lady too her to ring later on her hand while resting the phone on her shoulder. "Tomorrow at 5? Alright. BYE!!" She shouted excitedly while ending the call and putting her phone back on the table.
Shin looks around the cafe and sighs wipes the coffee stains on his apron he looks at the girl Megumi with interest but then he heads behind the desk and starts making a Mocha not knowing what he was doing at the moment he spills alittle bit of it and cringes but keeps going. 'First day on the job and this happens." He whispers and sighs
Yano glanced around the room once again and noticed Shin standing there. "Hey Shin! Could you make a cup of green tea?" He said and walked up to the guy he talked to. "That girl by the window ordered it" He said with a nod towards Megumi who sat with her phone glued to her ear and her eyes filled with excitement. Yano ran a hand through his unruly hair and rolled up the sleeves of the button up before he leaned on the wall against him, waiting for Shin.
Shin Answers " oh yes right away" Shin prepares the green tea with care and made sure things were well made after all the preparation and finishing touch's to the tea he dips the final touch's into the cafe making a leaf right down the middle he then looks at Yano "Here you are" Shin bows and hands the tea to Yano carefully. Making sure that everything was made right he looks up and waits for Yano
Yano nodded in a thanking way and grabbed the cup of tea. He gracefully waltzed out of the kitchen in a quick pace, but not spilling any tea. Within a matter of seconds he stood by Megumi's table once again. "One green tea" He said with a kind smile as he placed the cup on the table. He then bowed once again before straightening his back again.
Shin Nods at Yano before he leaves and looks out the window he plays with a glass cup looking at the leaves fall Shin then walks to the counter and watchs Yano and Megumi and smiles and looks down and starts washing the glass cups
