Breath of Destruction Lore
More than 2000 years after the original battle between Muzan and the Demon slayer Corp. the people of Japan lived in peace, free from the oppression of the demons. This changed when a scientist researching the ,now thought myth, demons discovered a vial of Muzans blood which had been hidden away by one of his high ranking followers. Upon contact with the blood the scientist became a demon with the ability to create more and after years of living as this creature who couldn’t move in the sun he was driven mad with hunger and rage. He began creating demons from his own blood and commanding them to attack cities. Because the demon slayer corps disbanded long ago and breathing styles were assumed lost to the ages, the demons quickly overtook major cities turning Japan into horrific run down version of its self. Buildings have been destroyed and bridges have crumbled whilst most of humanity retreats to a mountain covered in the ancient flower wisteria after seeing its effects on demons. Fast forward another 50 years and humanity have built small but fortified towns each with its own purpose. Breathing styles once thought lost to the ages were rediscovered in the form of dances passed down through families. The breathing styles that were recovered included: Water, Flame, Thunder, and Wind. As this new generation began to adopt these techniques generations after them learned to create various derivatives of a main style that suited their own skills. The four strongest swordsman of the first generation became what was known in the past as the Hashira, each wielding one of the main four breathing styles to act as the pillars of the new demon slayer corps. As years went on the Hashira created a hierarchy system to train and promote new demon slayers. Children starting at the age of 12 would learn the basics of swordsmanship and as they grew older they would train in breathing styles to defeat demons.
