Fantasy Branch A Magic School

((I had a feeling you were. Sorry for the wait.))

Arthur watches Elissia leave, then turns to the nurse. "So, doc, got anything that'll cure insanity? I'm afraid I'm almost to the point of needing an unhealthy dose, though it seems half the people here are waaaay past that point. Also, some icepacks for my arms would be nice."

-nurse-

"Yes the insanity will need a injection and the ice pack...sorry about that we currently don't have any."

-elissia-

Elissia walked back holding nothing will go wrong but then she forget what she was going to ask Alex "I forgot yet again....I'm useless." She sighed.

Arthur winced. "I'll skip the shot and just lay here a while. If you'd be so kind as to wake me if I fall asleep before the next period, I'd be appreciative."

Arthur reclined on the cot, placing his plush shark on his chest.

((Im back!))

Alex looked at Emily and asked "Are they gonna be alright? I really didn't mean to do what I did and I feel terrible." Alex had a guilty look on his face and looked around, there was amazing weather outside and the clouds seemed non-existent. People had been complaining about it being 'too' hot so he brought some clouds in. "Is that better?!" he called out to the second years who were constantly complaining. "Whatever, dude!" replied the leader, Jacob, who was mean to everyone. Alex used wind to hit him in the head and knock him over. "That's what you get!" said Alex, smirking.

(bump)

Emily had her hand out in silence for a few moments after Arthur left. She dropped it, then shrugged off the event. She now responded to Alex. "I barely even know what happened. Anyway, I'm Emily Morr. I just arrived five minutes ago. Did I miss a class? I'm sure I did." she let him have his little rage at the other older students. "weather control?" she enquired when she thought it safe.

Emily thought about this logic. "if you only control wind, how do you make the clouds? They're made of water."

"I use the wind to condense the water that is already in the air. Anyways, there is a much slower way to do it." he explained, "Imagine the world as not objects, but atoms. All you have to do is remember the looks and numbers of the atoms, then, change them!" he grinned, clearly impressed with himself.

"Ooohh, I see now. Basically the same thing I do to shape shift! It's actually really hard to assume new forms at first. This one is my favourite for on land." she gestured to herself in her red cheetah girl form.

"Cool, I might just try that!" Alex tries but turns into something that looks like a lion with no front legs, but instead wings but with the face of a dolphin. "Oops, that didn't work." he said as he turned himself into a human.

"oh good lord. Never do that again." she said with a giggle. "see what I mean? It took me a month to figure this form out properly. And then there was my shark girl form. That took me a year, but I persisted."

A heavy shadow fell across Alex and Emily. A deep, cold voice addressed them. "What have we here? Are these freshies abusing magic on the very first day? I knew I'd be having fun this year, bu-"

"Cool ya jets, Keith. Jus' let 'em off wit' a warnin' and move on. We've got work ta do~" A much softer, kinder voice cut in.

"You're too easy on the troublemakers, Madi," the first voice responded in a much warmer tone. It then resumed its original iciness. "She's right, though, so you're just getting a warning. Keep the magic to a minimum out of class, and keep the experimenting in the classes with a teacher watching. Otherwise, you'll be answering to ME, freshies." His gaze turns to look Alex dead in the eye as he adds, "Though by the look of it, you might end up punishing yourself worse than I ever could."

The two walk away as the shadow fades.

((Descriptions: Keith is a tall, well-muscled student, built like a mountain. His black hair is buzzed short, unlike that of the girl at his side. Madi's reddish brown hair falls straight to the backs of her knees. The top of her head barely reaches Keith's bicep line, though she is by no means short. Both wear red armbands on their left arm, with the logo of the school emblazoned on the outward-facing side.))

((I intend these two to be NPCs, so if you'd like to use them yourselves, go for it. Keith's always ready for a brawl, and Madi acts as his voice of reason. Keith uses darkness-based magic, and Madi uses light. They're also upperclassmen, and in class 1.))

Emily turned to glare at whoever it was. "it's a free world!" she called, then turned into the snowy again, flying away at top speed.

A few minutes later, there was a tapping at the windows. Emily, in the form of the snowy owl, was requesting entry, as she was supposed to be in this class, too. At least, she thought she was.

Emily wasn't scratching the windows, just tapping to get the attention of the only occupant of the room. Once allowed entry, she hopped in and flew onto the floor. She then changed to her cheetah girl again. "hello." she greeted with a smile. "who was that guy, do you know? Why the attitude? The fool doesn't know how long I've known how to shape shift. I'm here cause I can do this." she almost touched her index fingers and lightning sparked between them.

Emily followed, taking the seat adjacent to hers. "my name is Emily Morr. Seems were both new! Pleased to meet you." she said.

((updating character sheet with images of this form, and another.))

Emily examined the figurine. "cool, but please do excuse me if I'm unimpressed. Rocks and dirt aren't my idea of fun. I like to be clean." she said.

"you have a good point. There is a class here, right? I'm where I'm meant to be for course one?" Emily enquired, looking around the room. "it's a nice place, by the way."

Emily raised her furry hand. "teacher, do I have to be human for this? Technically, if I'm not supposed to use my magic to change into something, I should stay as I am." Emily only used magic to change her form, not to maintain it. So if she lost her magic, she would be stuck in the form she was in at the time.

Arthur awoke to something soft prodding his face.

"Waaaaake uuuuuup, waaaaake uuuuup~" The nurse poked Arthur with his plush shark again. Reflexively, Arthur grabbed the shark in his left hand and went for the nurse's neck with his right. The pain from his arms reminded him of where he was, though, stopping his motion short. "Okay, okay, you can have your shark back. Class is starting soon, so you'd best be on your way."

Arthur took the advice, hurriedly putting Marro into his bag and rushing into the hallway in a false sense of urgency. On his way to class, he bumped into a bear of a man accompanied by a smiling girl, both carrying stacks of books to some undetermined location. Arthur muttered an apology, then quickly found his way to class.

"Did you see that kid?" Keith asked Madi as soon as Arthur was out of earshot. "He still carries a stuffed animal around! What a baby!"

"Ya should be nicer ta people, y'know? Ya got enough bad karma already."

"Aw, you're no fun. I can handle a bit of bad karma with you, my good luck charm, at my side~" The two continued bantering down the hallway.

Sitting in the back of the class Emil idly tapped a pen to his CAD, pondering over the events of the day so far. Enrolling here wasn't exactly something he had been looking forward to, in spite of all the prestige it held. Still he had been trying to keep an open mind believing that it would help to further his abilities.

It was only the first day, but so far he was not impressed. His fellow classmates in course one didn't seem to be blessed with the raw talent that he was so proud of, and there was no point in acknowledging those other jokes that took up space here. Teachers seemed to be instructing such basic concepts. The disciplinary committee here seemed to be quite the comedic duo, a pair which he was more than eager to test. Aside from that however, he felt that there was no true potential held within these walls.

"Class, today you will be practicing restraint in using magic. To that end you will be having a sparring session with a classmate of your choosing. Rise from your seats and find your partner, please."

Letting out a sigh, Emil looked down at the incomplete sketch he had been working on. A clawed hand grasping out at nothing in particular, a pool of black shaded in beneath it. Such a pitiful work, but it was to be expected when you had people interrupting an artist's creative process.

As the desks disappeared Emil scanned the room from side to side as all of his classmates paired up. Pressing his back against the wall at the far end of the room he shut his eyes, becoming lost in his thoughts for a brief moment before a voice dragged him back to the present.

"Um. E-excuse me. You need someone still, right?"

Resting his gaze on the source, Emil couldn't help but chuckle at the question. In front of him stood a small, timid looking young man, a great deal of nervousness extremely apparent through his actions.

"That's correct. Shall we begin?" Emil answered, looking toward the other side of the classroom. The teacher seemed distracted, discussing something with a girl and...some kind of monster of some sort. Considering the kind of company he kept he didn't question it, though he had to admit that he was intrigued. Perhaps she could prove to be a valuable inspiration in the future.

"Um, yeah! Let's go!" The boy cheerfully answered, the feeling of apprehension starting to fade away. Unfortunately, it was quickly replaced by shock as a pure black hand shot up from his shadow and grabbed onto his ankle, dragging him down into it. Leaving behind a ripple like that of a puddle of water his figure had completely vanished from the room.

With a smirk, Emil sat on the ground and flipped open his book once again, the page now filled with a white outline of the boy's figure in the shadow. 'Looks like I win.'

The teacher stared at the big cat. "You have to start as human, yes. Then only you can shape shift Miss..." she paused, not knowing the cat's name. "Emily, ma'am" Stephanie offered. "Miss Emily" she said, turning away and observing the class. Stephanie glanced at Emily, asking her again, "Wanna spar, Emily?"
Emily pouted a little zone did as the teacher said. She shifted to her human form. "absolutely." she said to Stephanie.

Emily clapped her hands on the flat of the metal blade. Electricity courses through it. It only had one path, and that was right through Stephenie. Emily regulated the charge to something reminiscent to a cattle prod on steroids, so the shock would hurt quite a lot, but not be strong enough to severely injure someone of Stephanie's build.

"Restraint in using magic? So, less flashy lights and more actual action?" A student in one of the rows ahead of Arthur shot a dirty look at him, but he paid it no mind. The teacher merely nodded.

Sparring, huh? Arthur thought. I'm probably rusty by now, and after this morning's forcible detachment attempt, my arms won't be much use. Plus, there are certain to be plenty of dirty tricks, considering the sch-

"Care to face off with my flashy lights, clown?" The student who had shot him the dirty look interrupted Arthur's thoughts. "I'll show you they're much more than just parlor tricks."

Arthur quickly sized the boy up. Dark hair, average height, average build. Nothing about the boy stood out beyond the gaudy wristband he wore. Likely his CAD thing, Arthur concluded. Confident, but likely not a threat. "Certainly."

The boy feinted at Arthur, to which he jumped slightly to the left. Already preparing his tricks - though I guess I'm no better. A sly grin appeared on his lips. The two took their positions as another student came to moderate the sparring. Arthur stood relaxed, in stark contrast to the aggressive stance taken by his opponent - leaning forward with his CAD outstretched toward Arthur.

"Begin."

A shout came from the boy as he closed his eyes in concentration to prepare his spell. Arthur dodged as soon as the shout sounded, exactly as the boy had planned, and the magic circle on the ground released a blast of energy above it... hitting only air. The lack of a scream of pain led the boy to open his eyes, only to find that Arthur was nowhere to be seen and the floor was rushing up to meet his face.

Arthur stood calmly after sweeping the boy's legs from beneath him. He then placed his foot on the back of the boy's neck. "So much for your flashy lights."

Emily's eyes widened in shock. She dived out if the way of The pillar. "time out! Time out!" she called.
