Emily sprinted down the halls of the school. According to anyone she passed, there was a cheetah loose in the building. She reached the classroom, overshot and slid down the hall, franticly trying to stop, and bumped the wall. She ran back, this time braking early and stopping by the door... To the empty room. oh, come on! I missed class? Damn it. she sighed, and it sounded more like purr, and sauntered down the halls. might as well go look around. First stop, that flowerbed I saw saw. she set off to explore. And she didn't shift from the cheetah form.
Nylah put her sister in her back and walked out of class, them both not staring or talking to anybody but each other, they talked about what they wanted to do and decided to go outside and enjoy the sun.
Arthur looked to his shark. The shark stared blankly back, grinning its toothy shark grin. Arthur sighed.
"You're right, Marro. The whole school's loony. But if he thinks he can convince me, I might as well humor him." Arthur carefully packed his book away, set the shark so it was peeking out of his pal, and followed in Alex's wake.
Alex blasted into the air, leaving a ring of clouds and wind behind him. "Believe me now?" he said, concentrating completely on flying. "If you want me to prove it even more, I can drop you and catch you!" he said, slowly dropping him.
Arthur felt the sudden blast of force raising Alex into the sky through his arms, nearly disjointing both of them in the same move. The pain bordered on unbearable, but Arthur fought through, trying to see the trick behind the stunt. Before he caught his bearings, though, Alex suggested a midair, single-player game of catch, and without waiting for reply, decided to use Arthur as a ball.
Man, today just isn't my day, is it? Arthur thought as he passed out.
Alex was extremely scared, what had he done? He dived down as fast as he could and caught Arthur, he used a simple brain altering spell to wake him up and said "Do you believe me now?" as he winked.
Emily wandered in to the area where Alex and Arthur were floating. She didn't look up, so totally missed them. She wandered about, still in her cheetah form, just looking around in marvel of the place.
"Whuzzat?" a dazed Arthur replied, seemingly unaware of his surroundings. One thing he was aware of, though, was the thinness of the air at this altitude, and of how his consciousness was once more slipping away.
((Swype tried to make that "skipping away", which caused quite an amusing mental image.))
During Emily's wandering, she now spied the two standing by-... Nope. One hit the ground. Emily decided to see why one of them was in an apparent daze. She sauntered on, approaching from behind the one called Alex. She gave a bark, as cheetahs do, as if to ask what happened.
In his daze, Arthur was unable to notice the cheetah sauntering toward Alex. It wasn't until it barked that he realized it was there in its full cheetah glory, staring expectantly at Alex.
That's a big cat, he thought, the idea not quite sinking in. Then it hit him: That's a BIG CAT! His mind kicked into high gear. Animals HATE me, and a cat that big could kill me without a second thought! Instinct took over, urging him to run and pushing a long, primal shout of fear from his lungs. Arthur leapt to his feet, but found his reflexes still slower than his mind.
The ground rushed up to meet Arthur's face, and he was left with a single thought: get that cat as far away from me as possible. With that, his face met the ground - and so did the gauntlet that served as his CAD. The ground beneath Emily's paws shook momentarily, then sprung upward like a diving board, throwing Emily back a short distance before returning to its original position.
Emily was quite confused by the boys actions. She tilted her head innocently as he faceplanted. how strange... then, the ground beneath her shook. She looked down, puzzled. Then suddenly she was airborne. She yelped audibly, and shifted her form to a pure white snowy owl and took flight from the launch. She quickly circled around and landed in front of the boy. She stared for a moment, then shifted to her human form. "hello to you too, my name is Emily." she greeted.
"Hi... It's not what it looks like." said Alex, embarrassed. "I was proving to him that magic was real. He passed out mid air." Alex paused, "A shapeshifter eh? I hear you are pretty rare now. Lots of people want you dead, watch out!" Alex seemed to be proud of his joke. He looked at the owl in the eye. "Do not speak of this. If you do...." Alex paused again, then laughed. "What is your name?" he asked.
Arthur lay with his face in the ground, waiting for the claws to come. It's over, he thought. My life is over, and I spent the last minutes of it getting my arms ripped off by a guy I don't know who insisted he'd make me believe in magic.
Instant by instant, he waited, unmoving, until suddenly he heard a girl's voice. The voice was introducing itself as though a dangerous predatory cat weren't on the loose, ready to pounce.
Arthur ventured a glance at this newcomer - this Emily. Not a cheetah, his mind confirmed. He looked left, then right, then spun around, searching for the animal. "It's gone..." sighed Arthur, unable to find it. He did, however, notice the figure of a girl sprawled on the ground near a wall, unmoving.
Before he could act, though, he was brought back to the conversation at hand - Alex was asking for his name. "Er, I'm Arthur. Arthur of the Pendleton family of rational thinkers and engineers. And who might it be that had the pleasure of nearly ripping my arms off?"
"whatever happened, that was fantastic! He kinda looked like those goats that lock up when you scare them... Wait, shape shifters are rare and hunted? No problem." she made the 'okay' hand sign, and sparks crackled between her thumb and finger. At this point, Arthur muttered to himself, but Emily heard it clearly. "it was me, thank you very much. I can shape shift. See?" she shifted Into a red cheetah anthro form to demonstrate her Abilities. "Arthur. Nice to meet you!" she offered a now furry hand for a handshake.
Arthur watches Emily change forms before his eyes. Arthur sees the now-furry hand offered for him to shake. Arthur witnesses this fusion of girl and cheetah before him in full glory.
Arthur turns to his plush shark. "What's that, Marro? You need to visit the nurse?" Without waiting for Alex to introduce himself and without giving Emily a second glance, Arthur strides over to the crumpled form of Elissia, lifts her into a princess carry, and sets off for the nurse, grimacing in pain.
