"Yeah, no, you don't have to. Past is the past, whatever." Seto raised his hands In a gesture of mock surrender, glancing over at Maxwell. The last thing he wanted was to agitate the man. For all Seto knew, he seemed pretty damn dangerous, and getting people who looked like they had the power to kill you angry probably wasn't wise.

Instead, he focused his attention on the street in front of him, thankful for its emptiness as they continued on.

"Just a Few more minutes, then a left. Hopefully I'm not an idiot for once and my apartment'll be there."

Astrid's beaming smile remained unwavering as she watched Artemis turn pink. She giggled and tipped her bright eyes at her brother, lashes batting. Porter had long grown immune to her persuasions, as she relied all too much on the idea that her charm could convince anyone to agree with her. "I find it strange that you couldn't possibly see what my question has to do with saving the city. If you're not prepared to save yourself, how will you manage an entire city?" He raised a brow at Artemis and toyed with the boy's speech in his head. A cure? There was no cure for the darkness in all people. Even if Artemis could manage to cure the metas, wouldn't something else simply fill the cured void? Fill the need for humans to hate and destroy one another?
He watched the boy fidget under his gaze, hands slipping out of view. He could only know these nervous habits due to his experience with the human mind. Many a mind he'd overpowered and many a mind he'd dissected. "And what needs curing?" He asked curtly, finding his way back to the kitchen table. Astrid frowned dramatically at her brother and over at Artemis. "Yeah Arty, what's your plan to cure people? Get rid of the metas altogether?" Her voice was high and curious as she drummed fingers against the table top. "Cause metas aren't bad, you know. People are." She told him with a nod.
Artemis Fletcher

"I can't cure the hatred in peoples hearts, the solution to that problem is beyond my grasp, I'm only talking about the immediate problem; which is curing the rampaging meta's wandering this city. And when I say cure, I mean reverting them back to the state they were in, before they took the vaccine. Not completely curing them of their innate abilities, the powers they were gifted with from birth, just giving them control over themselves again." he said, glancing between the two siblings, as he took a moment to catch his breath. "If you two can get me to Mercy Hospital, the place where this all began, and I can get my hands on the vaccine, I can make a cure."

- Oooooh, I already see your body roasted to th-

*BANG*

A 9mm bullet stopped the insane meta-human mid-sentence. With a hole on his head, he fell on the knees and tipped over to the side, pouring his blood on a concrete. Flame on the feral meta's hand has died out, leaving only the charred, reeky flesh. Having the fire-bending abilities is cool and stylish, but the wall of fire can't protect you from the lead poisoning.

Matias holstered his gun and looked around. Somebody heard that gunshot, that's for sure, and there is a fair chance that this "someone" will come here to check. "Heh... let them come..." - Matias muttered - "I'll either find an ally, or this city will lose a criminal. Now, to the paperwork."

Policeman pulled out his notebook and started to write.

Case №5

Subject: a feral meta-human

Accused of: vandalism, destroying the private property, resisting arrest

Sentenced to: death

Now it's all within the rules. When the force field will fall, and the order will be restored, Matias will have the proof of his loyalty to the law. But right now, his job is far from over. He must provide the safety for the innocent ones, and neutralize the law violators. But without any means of communication with the outside world the only way he can do this is to just roam the city, searcing for sane people and restoring justice on his way, one bullet at a time. Closing the notebook, he glanced at the body of the fire man. "This guy has no chill..." - Matias thought, and, seconds later, cringed over the stupid joke.

Matias Grenst, one of the last law enforcement officers in New York, now walks down the road, passing street after street. New York is silent as it was never before. After hours of aimless wandering, he saw two men in the distance, one of them was smoking, the other was madly gesticulating.

- Finally, someone... sane?!

Losing his precaution, Matias rushed towards those two, trying to catch up with them.

As Maxwell saw someone rush to them, he immediately pulled out his gun, pointing it at the running man. "You better stop running like that, mister. Otherwise I consider you dangerous and will kill you. I mean, I don't really care...your choice...", he said, the first part sounding like the warning, the last one careless.

Fuck. What a fucking idiot.

Running out on a people like this is never a good idea, but Matias was too excited about meeting someone sane. Now he is on the gunpoint, and the options are really limited for him now. He raised his hands.

- Not much of a choice left for me, right? Hee-hee... Now, wouldn't it be nice of you to lower your weapon? I mean no harm for you, far from it, actually...

As he was saying that, he concentrated his powers on a sharp badge, hanging from his uniform. If something will go wrong, man in front of him will choke on his blood with a badge in the neck.

"I see a gun there. No matter if you wear an officers uniform, put that on the ground and maybe we will be friends? Who knows? Are you around to kill all the metas here?", Maxwell asked grinningly. He waited for the answer. He did not like killing. He did not NOT like killing as well. He just wanted to keep himself save. And these officers were dangerous from time to time.

@Shiki Kenju

"Hey, woah, okay- Maxwell, buddy, I really don't think this guy's gonna hurt us, man. I think a gun pointed at his head is a bit much." Seto, wide-eyed in his surprise, looked across at the stranger in front of him. Finding two people in one day was a hell of a lucky break, and the idea of killing one of the few normal people left in the city made Seto cringe.

"Listen, man, whoever you are-- I take you word that you're not gonna spazz out and kill us, okay?" He turned from the unknown man to his semi-companion at his side. "So out of the kindness in your heart, Maxwell, could you lower the damn gun?"

@Ami the breadling @Shiki Kenju

- Well, if you are nice, law-abinding m...meta-human - Matias winced - we are perfectly fine, yes... But I'm just an ordinary guy, what can I do against such a powerful being as you? You have some amazing ability, aren't you? Oh, but first, let me...

He slowly pulled the USP from a holster and put it on the ground. His badge started to vibrate. This stranger don't know about his gravity-changing power, so that's an advantage. But still, Matias hoped that no one will hurt each other. For now, at least.

Maxwell laughed and put his gun back in his vest. "Kindness? There is no kindness within me. But ok. I'll do it for you, since you are sympathic to me Seto. So stranger, tell me your name already. And pick your gun up again if you want to. And one last thing "powerful being"? "Amazing powers"? Dammit if I was a raging meta that wouldn't calm me down either.", he said, still laughing.

"Thanks, Man." Seto gave a nod towards Maxwell before turning his attention back to the stranger.

"I'm Seto. I know he just said my name, so you probably pieced that together on your own, but, you know." He stated, following it up with a simple shrug. "And the powers thing? Seriously. I'm just a guy who happens to be able to do some weird stuff. I almost fell off of a building today. Trust me, not that powerful."

Maxwell laughed. "I jumped down 2 today. Was a funny day till now."

That was close. God bless that guy, Seto, for being there. What would've been without him around... Matias laughed nervously and picked up the pistol. He took his concentration away from the badge, so he can relax for a bit. Shaking his head, Matias smiled and said:

- Name is Matias Grenst. Before all that mess, I was a lieutenant, but now it doesn't matter, don't you think? Now I'm just trying to guard the law, no matter how funny it sounds. And... Sato, that's your name? You have my word. You don't look like criminals to me. What is your name, you... with a gun?

Maxwell kept laughing. "Hm. I guess I can tell you. Maxwell. That's my name. But, no threat a warning, don't call me Max. Never. Never ever. Ok?", Maxwell said, smoking relaxedly.

- Okay, Max... -Matias paused and then considered not to tease the man. They almost killed each other two minutes ago, and pissing him off now wouldn't be the best choice - ...well. Nice to meet you. You won't beleive how I'm glad to see a person that is not trying to fight me. So... where are you two going? The city is just a huge mess now, and it's not like government is arriving any time soon.

"We planned to go to Setos apartment. And I won't fight you if you don't provoke me or try to attack one of us. Sounds like good conditions right?", he said, taking out another cigarette and lighting it.

Seto offered the man a small smile, but a genuine one all the same.

"Good to meet you, Matias. The more the merrier, I think." Seto gave a quick glance down either side of the street after saying this. Thankfully, all seemed to be clear.

Seto nodded in agreement at Maxwells answer. "Seems to be a lot of those messed up Meta's around here, and ive got food, water, all that good stuff." He looked back towards Matias."you're welcome to come. Unless you've got something better, in which case, I'm all ears."

- Something better? - Matias smirked - I want to tell you guys about some secret bunker under the police department, but sadly, there is nothing like that. No comunications, no directives, nothing. Only this damned forcefield. My plan until now was to cleanse the city from the feral metas, but it's not really working out, to say the least. So I'll be glad to follow you.

"Sounds like a plan. Or the beginning of one, anyway." Seto glanced back down the street. Briefly, he considered at having three people staying withhim would seriously drain his supplies, but he was quick to shelve these concerns as he continued on.

"Apartments just at the end of this street, should be to the left."

Matias silently followed Seto and Maxwell, deep in his thoughts. No directives, huh? Well, actually, there was one. The Directive N313, issued to the police squads, who were guarding the Mercy Hospital two weeks ago. It consisted of just one phrase:

[border]If the vaccination procedure will be disrupted without a confirmation of your superior, proceed to eliminate every meta-human within the city borders, vaccinated or not.[/border]

Given the current situation, the Directive is in action now, but whoever came up with this plan, was seriously underestimating the power of the metas. And there was plenty of meta-humans in the police, too, so the N313 kind of failed. But Matias is still alive, and even though he is a meta himself, he is not giving up on the order. He will just postpone it's execution.

They walked to the end of the street. Matias returned from the world of thoughts and murmured:

- Huh? Are we there?

"yeah- You kinda zoned out there, for a while." Seto answered, pulling out a small key ring from his pocket and unlocking the front door to the apartment complex. "Welcome, guys, to my humble abode. Or, actually, I take that back. Welcome to the lobby of my humble abode. Fair warning, I recommend the stairs. The elevator fell down the shaft three days ago."

Seto stepped inside, holding the door open for the other two men.

"we're heading to the seventh floor. 708."

"Sounds good. I don't feel like climbing at the moment, so let's take the stairs.", Maxwell said, heading to the stairs and going up. "I like it here, its a little crushed but nice...somehow."

Kicking the unpleasant thoughts out of his head, Matias went up with the others.

- Yeah, it's pretty comfy here. Thousand times better than being outside. Kinda appliсable to the life before the outbreak, yeah? - smiled Matias.

"Yeah. A little slice of pre-horrible-killing-machines Heaven." Seto said with a snicker, climbing the stairs. "The stairs are the worst, though. I usually don't bother with them. For the sake of not being rude, though, I'll suffer through this with you guys." He sarcastically quipped.

Seto couldn't help but roll his eyes as they started their ascent, his legs still sore from his fall and the chase he'd taken part in. A little more exercise probably wouldn't kill him, though, so he kept his complaints silent as the three made their way.

"Or we could just kill them." Astrid stated. Porter was used to her quick changes. Her shifting persona based on whatever merits she mentally assigned to situations. He laced his fingers across the table top and looked her over before addressing Artemis again. "So say we get you to the hospital, and get your vaccine? What if there is no cure?" Porter proposed, nibbling on the skin of his bottom lip. He could easily reach the hospital alone. Going from body to body was no issue. But the journey would be tiring and what would make it worth his time? Even if they cured the metas, there would still be the dome over the city, keeping them there. Reality often weighed against the boy when his nose wasn't buried in a book, or tending to Astrid. The reality that the world should take responsibility for their failure. People should die. The laws of karma made it so. Even if they cured them, life would not just proceed where it'd left off.

Stefani wandered around here apartment, searching for leftover food. She didn't have a lot to begin with and she just finished her supply. Stefani groaned slightly and grabbed her rifle and slung it over her shoulder. She opened the door into the hallway slowly and checked around. When she saw that no one was there, she made her way quick to the stairs and began descending floors. Stefani pulled out her pistol just for safety. (I didn't have any other ideas...)
