You can describe it like a gore horror novel for all I care. I won't block the approval unless the backstory doesn't make sense and of course I don't recommend creating any drama in the backstory that is not important for some aspect of the current character

Are you the type that needs complete silence to sleep? If not I recommend creating a sleeping playlist on an mp3 or your phone. That's what I did for three fourths of my life, my sister is a very late night owl.
