"You asked genuinely so I ******** told you, not like I expected a flick of fairy dust for a bloody fix.....also toasters are what they are, the walking scrap heaps they wanted to try and be fancy with" crossing her arms looking him over as if in thought or perhaps merely picking them apart as he continues to speak, the swords not escaping her notice though there is a slight twinge from her brow as he starts mentioning courtyard then parents, the exposed fur-raising for a moment before going back to normal. Standing staring into his eyes she slowly takes the can, piercing the bottom with a clawed them and draining its contents before crunching it into a small disc.

Her next words come direct and slow "You gonna state your angle on inviting a random to your fancy mansion that you know absolutely nothing about? Your not the first person to arrive with a random offer today" carrying on the same look as before as she bears down on him, sure she had some interest but despite appearances, she had a few ideas about this entire exchange already but wasn't about to jump when called like some yapping beagle, there was some use to it given she already knew they were on the hero course so would be stuck with them regardless for a few years unless they packed it in.....and she could always push back her previous plans for later.

1570331945155.pngHunter realized that the toasters were the robot fodder they were fighting earlier... and that inviting someone over wasn't something you did casually in Japan. Now how to rectify this. "You said you wanted a challenging fight so I offered to give you one. Aside I'm just temporarily staying at my uncle's dojo and they have fights there all the time. I should probably mention I forgot the significance of inviting someone over in your culture and for that I apologize."

Tilting her head ever so slightly her eyes seem to flash in an understanding for a moment, though less from his words and more from something else "Not what I asked, but I got my answer either way...just don't apologize like a ******* sheep, it pisses me off regardless not getting started on gaijin spouting the word off like they have ******* Tourettes without even getting what the word means." turning to walk past him and further out towards the entrance, she wasn't about to smash apart some random kids family home without reason even if he was offering it out on a street corner. Then again guess she can work on something a little different to add into the mix regardless, not like they want to scratch up those fancy shined floors with a crater or two.

"Well you coming then?" turning her head as she moves slightly to focus an eye back on him before looking back "Also never asked the name, might want to check why"

1570331945155.png"Yeah I'm coming. Oh I'm Hunter Churchill." He asks before leading the way towards his home. "So what's your name?" He asks before remembering something she asked that struck him as odd. "Also mind explaining what what you referring to when you said 'might want to check why'?"

"Because unlike other dumbasses I don't forget what I see, but from that seems you either did or didn't pay attention to the useful information...that blowhard had them all on his little screens" Thumbing behind her to the monitors becoming more distant as she continues to walk, still displaying tiny images and lists of names shown along with the images "and Alice Cooper" hands returning to her pockets as she keeps up the path, nose twitching slightly as she makes a turn heading onwards despite no direction being given as to the location of the compound.

1570331945155.png Hunter kept pace with her as they walked towards his Uncle's dojo. "I briefly glanced at the monitors but I was thinking about how to improve myself. Well anyways it's nice to meet you Alice." He says while thinking how her quirk has something to do with animals and she was probably smelling his path from before so he didn't question it. They soon arrived at the dojo. PlusUltra PlusUltra

The girl does not make much in the way of conservation as they head forward, eyes seemingly set on the path ahead without displaying much in the way of acknowledgment with the wind blowing through her hair, fur and skirt softly like a breeze over grass. It's only once they get closer that her gaze seems to slowly move around the approaching compound, fresh-cut grass, mahogany polish, swept gravel and all in all pretty much what she would expect from a practical mansion, a prim and proper traditional building that no likely had countless generations worth of history especially given the drastically differing design from the surrounding residences.

She did not stop at the threshold to the estate and instead just headed on in without any real reservations, another faint twitch of her nose as her head starts to turn to locate the faint traces of sweat, blood and oils that seemed to concentrate on the Dojo itself proper. "So might as well get the formalities over with, what are you looking for here? I don't do blades and regardless of how you might get off on it I'm not about to slice you up" tilting her head back once more to meet is eyes

I'm using blunt swords but other than that I'm not going to hold back at all, and neither should you." Hunter says walking a few paces away into the large courtyard before turning to face Alice. "Ready when you are." He forms a longsword and keeps it pointed (point guard) at Alice.

Shrugging the girl simply walks off a few paces before standing their arms loose to her side and claws retracted, taking a slow breath as internally weighs up what path to go with this, given what she knows she wanted to go with something to push but the exact something was what was up in the air as a few were really not going to be possible of suited to this so she might as well go with her broken wing gambit and play it from there. "Well? you going to get on with it?" the girl somewhat hunched and eerily still with the upper part of her face somewhat difficult to make out, their entire body language appeared to have changed dramatically with whatever she was doing, standing there with seemingly no defensive posture at all and a myriad of openings in plain view.

Alice remains in position for a while before slowly starting to walk forward in the same limp stance, arms swaying as she does like a pendulum until a sword slash comes in from Hunter at which she stumbles somewhat unexpectedly having it narrowly passed by as she straightens up aftward in far too close to his face causing the boy to leap backward and send a volley of blades as he does. The slow stumbling walk continues subtle shifts of her posture that are somewhat erratic resulting in the first salvo to crash into the ground behind her without much in the way of any reaction from the girl, leaning into another as the next lot comes in, her arm seemingly causing it to spin back in the direction it came from to by chance collide with another that was just about to strike their face.

The boy simply couldn't get a read on the erratic and seemingly random movements that at first seemed far too slow and sloppy to possibly dodge the attacks yet somehow through last-minute random movements defended them each time all while she kept getting closer. Sure he was tired from the test but he shouldn't be having this much issue striking an easy target, the solution to this, however, seemed fairly straight forward as he summons more blades but this time entirely encompassing the girl and rocketing them all down like missiles, sure the movements could maybe avoid one direction but all of them would be hard. All the blades collide at a single point in an explosion of force scattering the dirt into a large cloud, though within the chaos Alice falls to the ground flat, rolling the side for a moment before seemingly springing back up and walking out of the dust into view once more unharmed. This was most likely slightly frustrating for the boy, the lazy disorganized movements like something you would expect of a drunk should really not be doing this so he was certain this must all be deliberate despite appearances, however as much as he tries to get a read on the girl it's simply drawing a blank, while her, in turn, seems to know his next move before he's even thrown it.

Even attacks from the rear pass her by without even a glance but as the spar goes on he does start to see through it somewhat finally, there were no wasted movements and she was completely lucid and aware of her surroundings to an unnatural degree concentrating her efforts into this split seconds...the reason she hadn't been speaking was she in complete focus...or maybe at this point almost a sort of trance.

Summoning a second blade the boy would fly in to focus on melee range given the lack of success with ranged attacks, swapping between sword styles and types, throwing faints as she continues to dance around the strikes but at least he was able to get a few glancing blows in at least but the metal sliding across without leaving much in the way of damage but at least stopping her movement forward while he kept it up. The fight would seen shift once again though as she managed to slide in close after one thrust, sidestepping around him far too close for a conventional sword, her limb wrapping under his armpit, a shoulder shove, hip thrust all throwing him off balance as he tried to find the chance or leverage to pivot even a dagger in to strike her.

The boy was quickly growing exhausted after all the day's events, with this on top he was sweating while Alice didn't even seem to be breathing heavy, maybe, as a result, her insane level of stamina or perhaps she wasn't kidding about not being pushed in the test. Regardless of the truth he was running out of time and so it came to one last-ditch effort to at least get a solid hit on them, droppings the dagger to go unarmed for a second he instead catches it with free hand to try and stab it into her exposed midsection believing it successful as it collides, only for it to feel like its met a solid wall against her abdomen unable to get past her skin, even with his strength behind it she wasn't budging though there a faint huff for a moment when blade met tensed muscle knocking some air free. As he continues to push against the wall she takes a step forward into it pushing the arm back with the movement, the skin seems to shift as it slides off to the side with Alice finally raising her head and for a second and he sees her feral eyes and something else, with a flash of intensity that launches him backward to skid along the yard to try and process whatever that just was, his breath caught in his throat while she stops moving and stands there waiting for him to rise once more, a faint welt where the collision had occurred

Yuri trilled softly, nodding as Paris explained, the teacher wasted no time scooping the unconscious girl into her arms. "So many of you kids go knocking yourselves out nowadays. The trials of youth I suppose." Yuri took a moment to secure the young girl in her arms, one arm hooked under her knees, the other supporting her shoulders with the girl's head resting on Yuri's shoulder, the older woman looked to the other student. "Come along then, you want to see how you scored right?" Gatekeeper hadn't teleported either of these two out, which means they had passed of course. That was the principal for most of the kids left behind, but most of them wouldn't score too high. Yuri had a good feeling about these two, their surroundings looked more destroyed than they would normally. Maybe they fought a teacher.

Yuri would lead in silence for a few minutes, occasionally to make sure that Paris was keeping up, leading by the blue arrows was the easiest thing in the world. "So, you know this girl? I remember reading your file, Paris. Kinda, there were a lot of files. You were one I was rooting for, and I maybe was hoping to fight you. Got caught by some other kids, impressive ones, but still. You made it this far, haven't been teleported away, so congrats on getting in. Looking forward to seeing you in my class." Yuri said nothing more for the moment, readjusting Emmy in her arms as they reached the gate. "Go check your scores and get some food. I'll take her to the medical tent."

Yuri left Paris alone at the gate, heading off into the recovery zone past celebrating students and slightly disappointed kids as she made her way to the medical tent. Ducking in, she cleared her throat. "Hey Kireina, got another one for Ya." She laid Emmy down on a clear cot, "I think she's just unconscious. Exhaustion, not really sure who she fought. Figured you could wake her up?"

Paris

Paris did her best to keep up to Yuri as the two made their way to where everyone else was. At one point, Paris's eyes shot up to glance at Yuri, a mixture of surprise and embarrassment on her features.

"M-me?! You read my file?" She couldn't bring herself to say the rest. You even wanted to fight me? Paris couldn't believe what she was hearing.

'...so congrats on getting in. Looking forward to seeing you in my class.' Paris shook her head to clear her brain. No way. No way!

"B-b..!! I can't be- I don't deserve-" But Yuri was gone, delivering Emmy to the medical tent. Paris wrung her hands in an attempt to stop them from shaking. If SHE would've fought me, I wouldn't be here! I would've lost! I would've been kicked out! Her chest feeling tight, Paris headed for the screen that showed everyone's placement, one of the last applicants to do so. She has to be wrong. It must be a mistake. It has to be-

But it wasn't. Instead of the joy she had dreamed of feeling at this moment, Paris's eyes filled with tears. "No.... no..!!" She whispered. She looked around, desperately, looking for someone she knew. There were several familiar faces- all her siblings at the orphanage- but none present that she would feel comfortable talking to. So, she sought out a teacher instead. This might be the worst day of my life. I'm a fraud. I somehow escaped the worst testing and squeaked in. I'm a nobody. And now I'm crying my eyes out and telling a teacher that someone made a mistake.

Approaching a tall man with sunglasses and a strange blue presence floating around him, Paris cleared her throat. "Excuse me.." She barely squeaked out, still obviously crying. "There's been a mistake..."

Kireina at the moment had been leant over one of the unfortunate students who appeared to have come onto the wrong end of a loose robot if the multitude of tread marks were any indication, leaving them somewhat comically flat almost yet still very much alive, though a quick look upon the system did give an explanation as soon as the quirk name "Baloon" came up. Bending down it almost seems like she is about to start CPR though his body starts to inflate back to normal as her lips touch him, followed by slapping what appears to be several smiley face band-aids across various points that the air was escaping. Suffice to say the entire treatment had a good portion of those in the other bed's attention and jealousy, with some now trying to think how to play up their injuries for similar treatment.

Turning finally she heads to the side to look over the new patient Yuri had dropped off and starts to go over them with her a critical eye before smiling once more "Oh but she looks so peaceful, there really isn't much wrong so really would be best to let them enjoy their little nap while I take care of the scrapes" laughing as she works to start tucking them into the cot while going to address the problem areas. "We can likely figure it out the who from footage but this does look like the work of a certain naughty dragon we have on-staff, though at least this time he didn't burn them too badly...I still brought emergency wigs after what happened last time though. Though regarding waking up there are a few little salts around if they sleep for too long, but best to let it be natural" starting to hum a sweet little tune as she finishes up the last little bits.

Making her way back to the Orphanage was a simple affair once the sounds of applicants chatting had faded into the distance behind her. With the possibility of discovery lowered, she slowed down to a stop momentarily. Moving her second pair of arms under her dress to get more comfortable, she resumed her walk and kept her head down the entire way home. She avoided conversation or drawing attention to herself, even once she reached the Orphanage. She was used to this, to making herself unnoticeable, it felt good that someone like her was capable of such a feat. The moment she was back inside the confines of her room, she released a small sigh of relief as she turned and locked her door once more.

Quickly pulling off her dress and accessories until her shirt and skirt were all that remained, Lana went about folding her dress so that she could put it in the wash later. With that taken care of, she moved to a much more interesting matter at hand. Her eyes went to a bookcase which came up to her chin; a variety of tomes, novels and other written works populating its shelves. Giving a little hum under her breath, Lana approached the bookcase before crouching down with the assistance of one of her extra arms. She extended a chitin covered finger towards one and carefully slid it out of place before rising to her full height.

Her second pair of hands positioned themselves beneath the book, which she lowered into their grasp before searching for her book mark. Her search didn't last for long, as soon she landed upon the page she was looking for the bookmark slipped out. It fluttered towards the floor, only for her tentacle to whip downwards and catch it merely a second before it could land. Bringing it before her eyes, Lana slid it into her other hand before reaching down with it and tapping the Bookmark against the edge of the novel in her hands. She continued this tapping as her eyes scoured the page, second pair of hands holding it steady as she approached her bed.

Sitting on the edge of her bed, Lana reached forward and flipped the page before lying on her back. The streams of light which managed to get through her curtains were more than enough illumination needed, and soon Lana found herself engrossed fully by a tale of betrayal and corruption. She was careful with her legs, slowly drawing them up onto the bed with her as she pulled herself towards her pillows. Reaching up with her tentacle, she drew the curtains open just a bit more to account for her new position. Finally, after a full day of pretending she could be something she couldn't, the world was finally right again. This, right here, was her actual element: secluding herself from any potential bothers and enjoying pleasant stories of much more believable heroes taking on real issues.

Lana paused in her reading to sigh. While continuing to maintain such a facade of false hope would be undeniably irritating, she supposed it would offer her a window into how real heroes were made. Besides, the next time Maize had visiting hours, she'd be able to tell her some actually interesting news about herself. For her last few visits, Lana had done nothing but bring up the books she'd read or hum her a tune or two. Though the sickly little Imp had done her best to feign interest, Lana would never believe that anyone in their sick bed could care about such petty things. Maize liked the ideas of heroes, and Lana would finally be able to meet her interests blow for blow. Even if she had to stretch the truth about her own enthusiasm, it would still be a net positive in the end.

Reaching down with her free hand to tap her bookmark against the book again, Lana found where she left on and quietly continued her reading as time went on.

Edzan Miller.png

Edzan was once again at the shady tree a few paces away from the food tables, watching over the gathering of students who had decided to stay afterward, some had already left, returning to their places of residence. Taking notice of the large number of orphan students he'd reviewed the applications for he was a bit surprised, he didn't think so many of them would be on the top ten... in fact, almost all of them were on the top ten. Edzan huffed a bit at this, to be honest, he felt a little sorry for them, he knew life without parents was hard, fending for yourself- life without parental guidance was a difficult one.

Suddenly he heard soft crying behind him, he froze in place for a second, looking forward at nothing at all, to be frank, Edzan didn't want to address whoever had approached him, couldn't they have found any other teacher besides him? did he look like the type to console someone? He closed his eyes and took a deep breath in holding it for a few moments than releasing it. "No... This is my responsibility now, I signed up for this being a possibility." he thought quickly before turning to face the small, shaking, crying girl.

Edzan's eyes widened slightly, what he first had thought was just some child sad about not getting in was... one of the accepted students? Paris Fallon... that was it, he remembered her, nature quirks had always intrigued him slightly so he'd read up on Paris and knew what was happening due to his own experience, he slowly knelt next to her, trying to loosen up his stern angry-looking face, taking off his shaded glasses to reveal his glowing yellow eyes, luckily he was calm so they weren't very bright, more of a slight flame behind his gaze. Speaking in a low, calm tone

"Let's address the big problem here before we get to this 'mistake' deal you brought to me. Because if I'm not wrong you're having a panic attack, and I refuse to let that go unattended to." He fished around in his jacket pocket for a second and grabbed onto the cold steel rectangle, taking it out of his pocket to reveal the small zippo lighter, opening the top and the little flame making its presence known, it flittered around in front of the girl as her panicked breathing nearly put it out. Fire may have not been the best idea considering her quirk, but Edzan had to improvise and this trick always helped him.

"Alright... Paris, I want you to concentrate on the flame of this lighter alright? you see how it's not even right now, shaking a lot and nearly going out. It's because of your breathing that it's like that. So, I'll tell you what we're gonna do together: We're gonna take a second to step back and calm down, Alright? and how we do that is slowing down our breathing, watching this flame until it gets even, so first we breath slow and long through the nose... and out through the mouth. after a while, you'll hear your heartbeat and concentrate on the flame, your heart, and my voice alright. We're calm and it's alright that we're here and calm."

After sitting with Paris for awhile Delta Force had receded back into Edzan, and the flame was looking a lot more even, flickering every once and a while but not much more. Edzan let out a slight sigh, lighter still in hand, he slowly nodded to Paris before speaking again. "There we go... Now- the less pressing matter, in my opinion, the 'Mistake' someone made, right? You don't you should be here do you." he paused for a second, looking at her, his eye's glow seemed to have vanished with just his dim yellow eyes, underline with tired dark circles and the markings of his age.

"You've got reason to be here, kid. Whether it be helping your friends get though or maybe you'll turn out to be the best hero in the world- who knows. But you are here for one reason or another. allow me to let you in on a secret, kid. When I was around your age and tried entering this very same hero course I didn't think I was gonna get in. I was just some grubby kid raised on the streets, not a friend or dollar to his name, with an uncontrollable quirk. So to say I thought my chances were low would be an understatement, but I got in... and I felt like there was a mistake too, I wasn't exactly hero material back then, and to be frank, I'm not much of a hero now either."

He eyes slowly lit back up as slight embers rose from his shoulders, Edzan places the shades glasses back on and placed an arm on his knee and sighed before turning back to Paris "What I'm trying to say really is, Heroes aren't perfect, no one is perfect. Heroes can have the same troubles that you have, and that's alright. everyone's got their baggage, Hell I know I've got a lot. but you placed in the top ten, Paris, and that's not something light, you were placed in the top ten for a reason, and that reason is that you did well today, Don't take that away from yourself, even if we don't think we do, we have to let our selves win sometimes. even when it feels like we didn't. Now, You can sit here with me however long you need, but I don't have much more to say, so conversation won't be lively. I've talked more than I do in a week just today.... and maybe that's a good thing. But It's up to you kid. I'll be here if you need anything so."

Edzan sighed and put the lighter away, and fell back into the grass and looked up at the rolling blue sky through the tree branches above, not really thinking about anything.

GateKeeper

Gatekeeper blinked as a student burst into his office, the whirlwind causing the paper strewn about his office to fly about like a winter flurry.

Perpetually disorganized, anyone who knew Gatekeeper would expect as much from him. He rested his chin on his hands, watching the girl ramble on about asking for a chance, practically begging to get in with her limbs still all over the place. Judging by the state of her, she wasn't joking about the struggle to get here. Normally, he would just tell her to try again next year, but something about her determination stood out. Most would have just gone home or phoned in, but she had done everything in her power to get here. Plus, her file was interesting, from what Gatekeeper had read of it, anyway.

As if on cue, this would be when Edzan appeared and, of course, noticed he hadn't even attempted to read the seventy eight pages of addendums. "Ah Edzan, perfect timing as always. I hope you aren't too worn out" he remarked, completely skipping over his remarks about the paper.

"You see... we've got someone here who missed the test and still wants a shot. I think once she pulls herself together... you can test her resolve for... an hour or so and see how long her resolve holds." He smirked at the girl.

"Before you thank me... you should know that this will probably be a few orders of magnitude more grueling than what you would have faced if you got here on time. Though, you're welcome to quit whenever you've had enough" He shrugged. If she lasted, she would have passed the test anyway. If she didn't, well, she tried, at least.

He glanced over at the monitors one more time. This group was certainly going to be interesting....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For those that passed, the next two weeks would have probably been a blur. Between gathering school supplies, uniform fittings, orientation, moving into the dorms, and trying to get settled, that two weeks seemed to pass in almost no time.
The dorms were, as expected from such a top institution, immaculately maintained. On the first floor was the common area, with seats, tvs, games, kitchen facilities, laundry, etc. The second floor was the girl's dorms, and the third floor was the male dorms. In the opposite direction, underground contained their own athletics and training center, complete with indoor obstacle course. It wasn't nearly as big and expansive as the main facilities on campus, but it was a way for the students to further interact and bond during their time here.
As the sun rose on the first day of class, the students would, for the first time, wake up alongside their classmates to eat breakfast, attend classes, and continue on their journey to become pro heroes. One by one, alarm clocks started ringing, stirring students awake.
The Day has come.
The past two weeks had been hectic, to say the least. When she got home the day of the exam, she slept from the moment she got to her bed to about 1 in the afternoon the next day. After that, it was a packed schedule of getting uniforms and school supplies, almost all of her notebooks were a shade of pink. And only mechanical pencils. Getting uniforms was the worst and best part of the whole getting prepared for school exploits but still. Moving in was easy, She didn't have a lot of stuff, and the dorm room was about the same size as her room at the orphanage, all her little knick-knacks and clothing fitting perfectly, she was making herself at home for the few days they had before class started. Waking on the first day of class was a chore though. She was still a little sore thanks to the practical exam, and those bruises didn't seem to want to leave. Her upper back, in particular, the area between her shoulder blades, was a sickly yellow-green color. It kept her shoulders tense, but it was nothing a shower couldn't help.
Lukewarm water pelted her head, the empty showers a little eerie. It was about 5:15 in the morning, nobody else had gotten up to claim a shower yet. Or gotten up at all yet. It was relaxing actually, and having been barred from the showers last night, refreshing. About ten minutes later, she was out, dressed, and making breakfast. Waffles, a lot of waffles. Like an entire box worth of mix, but she knew that the other kids would be jazzed to have some breakfast waiting for them. Leona had to make sure not to get any better on her uniform, questioning her choice to have gotten dressed already, but she made it through cooking nice and clean and, not that the clock reached 6 am, she could be found sitting on a couch in the commons eating waffles with no syrup (not that they didn't have any, it was just how she preferred them) watching the news. Leona liked to be informed about current events.
Walking off as the spar comes to a close the girl's posture returns to normal and she casually strolls outwards without much ceremony "I took too many hits, it seems i need to work a few things...." her gaze lowering to the boys exhausted state, a nose, and ear twitch for a moment before she continues "let's call this a draw til later. Maybe we can do it again if you last long enough at the academy." her tone calm and satisfied idly waving with a free hand before making her way to parts unknown.
While many others were preparing for their first day Alice herself also continued to prepare in her own ways, her extreme frugality combined with limited income made the gathering of supplies somewhat limited...not to mention the fact she had yet to return to the orphanage after those events all those months ago, it was never a home for her with all the belongings of note having been carried with her. The Uniform fitting was a....eventful encounter, the entire process far too intimate for her liking with the measuring tape as well the entire style far too constricting atop her fur, tail, and claws, going on for far longer than she would have wanted too, the same with the orientation causing her to skip out for a more productive user of her time.
It wasn't until closer to the end of the time that the girl finally moved into the dorms themselves, having received the room sometime earlier but not making it her burrow of sorts until then. While others may have had cases of personal effects her own were packed tightly into a tattered duffel bag, the rest of the items brought resembling more the contents of a junkyard than a bedroom including several barrel drums, jerry cans, and car parts...needless to say there was a great deal of sound that night with it sounding more like a chop shop than a bedroom.
Speaking of Junkyards, it was where the majority of her time was spent in free hours to continue her unorthodox if effective training regime if you could call it that, what to others merely a chaotic insanity of self-destruction in a custom made death traps. Hanging slabs of twisted steel from thick chains set to fall, be dragged or merely struck, repurposed and altered ball launchers, some sort of oven box and all sorts of compressed stacks of junk perhaps for some sort of weights or another purpose. The area was not free of course, the owner of the area did allow her to use it as she wished in exchange for a few favors here and there which mostly consisted of "supply" runs to whatever fast-food garbage was on his mind at the time or unloading whatever new was brough to be added to the piles or stripped. Sure the school had its own obstacle courses and training center but it was far too....clinical and safe for her tastes, it made the entire training seem artificial and not to mention one size fits all, she couldn't relax and get on with it, oh and not to mention there would likely be a troublesome complaint or dozen regarding her treatment of it. Instead, she simply made her runs to Junkyard where she could work in solitude and peace.
Though that brings her to the current day stepping out of the shower room with her body still steaming from the heat as she walks through the kitchen at the early hours to open the fridge without much ceremony and simply dragging out a full egg carton before returning to her room to get reluctantly dressed within the uniform and the other minor parts of the morning routine. Forgoing the shirt and blazer for now leaving it hanging over her shoulder along with the scratched up bag and lack of shoes, with the sun finally starting to rise she should probably check what time they were actually supposed to show up at the class...well most of the others were still asleep so she might as well just wait in the lounge until they start heading out. So until then, she drapes herself over a chair and decides to go to work on her claws with a seems to be more a series of blocks than a normal nail file, swapping them out eventually until they are closer to a ceramic brick than anything.
Paris
Paris tried her hardest to accept what Delta Break had said that fateful day at the Practical exam. He believed in her, Yuri believed in her, the head teacher who did the grading, Gatekeeper, believed in her.... Why didn't she believe in herself? It was a chance for Paris to bring her parents' powers to the world again after they had been stolen from it for so long. Paris would do her best to make it up to them.... there was no reason for life for her outside of that. She couldn't justify taking up space and breathing air in this world unless she could undo the wrong of her quirk manifesting and causing her parents to see each other... and ultimately for causing her mother to die alongside her father that tragic night. If she could undo that wrong by being the best hero she could be with their quirks inside her... maybe she could justify living. And if she died in service? Even better. That would terminate the wrong for good.
Moving out of the orphanage was an emotional time for most of the orphans, Paris especially. Her only memory of life outside the orphanage was the day her quirk manifested. A day she'd like to forget, despite most of it being a happy memory. Every once in awhile she'd have a flashback from time with her mom, but would often forget it immediately after, much to her distress.
The dorm was nice. Spacious, but cozy. And nearly all of the orphans in her grade were there with her. Not that she had been close with many of them, but hearing Emmy's tantrums and MJ bossing people around in a motherly sort of way was comforting to Paris. There were also new faces that she was mostly terrified of, but she knew if anyone wanted to hurt her, the other orphans would beat them to a pulp before any time passed at all. If you mess with one of them, you mess with all of them. That was comforting too. There were also exciting, intriguing new faces, like Dante, the boy who Paris was pretty sure had passed in first place. She found herself drawn to him, staring at him unintentionally when he was in the room. He had such a big, friendly smile, and Paris always felt warmed by it. She would've been completely freaked out by the vampire boy, except that she had grown up next to Leona, whose quirk was similar. In fact, Leona's was visually scarier, since her veins turned bright red and so did her eyes. So Paris wasn't too afraid of being around Dante. But if he talked to her, that would be a different story.
Paris wanted to interact with the other kids, but she was way too shy. She sometimes passed by the common room, where she'd hear either laughter or arguing, but never went in unless she had to pass through it. She didn't want to get singled out....
Now, Paris lie in bed, staring up at the ceiling after her alarm went off. This was the day. A little voice stilled gnawed in the back of her mind, asking her if she really deserved to be here. Today will tell,it said. What if you get kicked out on the first day? They'll never stop talking about how pathetic that was. How they shared their unique campus with an undeserving commoner who sneaked by the test. Paris shut her eyes, and then rolled out of bed, heart pounding in her hollow-feeling chest as she got dressed. The only part of her attire that differed from the others' was her worn leather satchel, restocked with a variety of seeds after they got dumped during the practical.
It was gifted to her early in her days at the orphanage, something to put her seeds in, to encourage the use of her quirk on orphanage grounds. Unlike other places, the orphanage encouraged quirk use in their children, knowing that they'd likely end up being heroes some day, or atleast applying to hero schools. Something to get them to identify with their pasts and make something beautiful out of it. Toddler Paris definitely fell for it. She was spilling seeds everywhere as a little kid, always wanting others to stop and watch what she could do. She wished she could be as unselfconscious as she used to be. It wasn't until she was older that she had learned and understood that her mother's death was because of her quirk.
Paris forced herself down the stairs and was greeted by the complimentary smell of waffles. Paris really appreciated the culinary skills of the more maternally inclined orphans. The warm food was a welcome thing for a nerve-wrecked Paris.
Adjusting to the dorms had been little challenge for Lana, the only real difference she found between it and the Orphanage were the layout. She had her clothes, her books, and her other sparse belongings... that was all that she needed. Besides them her room at the Dorms was almost as barren as her room back at the Orphanage. Aside from the school supplies she had to acquire, there was nothing identifying about the room at all. It was excessively clean, almost sterile in its emptiness. She'd taken her drapes specifically to seal up her new window, only allowing enough light for her reading.
Though she took her dresses and eye-patches with her, she mostly kept them packed away save for one or two. Lana had started wearing her uniform specifically to ready herself for classes. Hiding her Quirk was quite literally impossible at a place like this, so she figured she wouldn't even try. The Eye-patches she kept on hand, she didn't want to get up in some bright event with no way to cover her cluster. She kept one folded in her pocket for easy access, she wouldn't be caught dead in any situation without the right protection.
She kept to herself as usual, only deviating slightly from the routine she'd cultivated at the Orphanage. She'd managed to keep interaction with the other students to a minimum, but had attended meals as they occurred. She'd sit in the background while others utilized the facilities or interacted, nary making a peep save for several small instances so insignificant that she couldn't even remember them. Besides those few instances, she ate alone, she trained alone, she read alone, just like how things were meant to be. It was honestly refreshing, but she knew it wouldn't last. Once they actually had to attend classes, interaction was guaranteed. And that day had come quicker than she would've liked.
Of course, that didn't change her early morning routine one bit. Bathing had to be done in a certain manner due to her chitin, as it wasn't like flesh at all. It was like armor, and when cleaned needed to be polished carefully. Though it got dirty less often than her skin did, Lana still polished it regularly. She already looked the part of a disgusting freak, she would be damned if she let herself smell like one too. So a quick chitin polishing proceeded every bath, followed by her awkwardly balancing herself in the shower with one pair of arms while doing her best to clean her human parts with her others. Hair was next and, though she wasn't big on styling it in anyway, maintaining its form had become as much of a daily tradition as polishing her chitin.
Then there was drying, a process made simple due to her extra arms, followed by clothing. As bathing often took the longest, getting dressed was a comparatively simple affair. After ensuring that she was as presentable as an utter nightmare like herself could be, she proceeded to make her way to the kitchen. There were others already there, but they were promptly ignored as she made for the fridge and prepared to make her usual morning porridge. But just as she prepared to pull the lid off a small tub of grain, she found a number of waffles already prepared. Lana narrowed her eye at them, slowly placing the tub of grain back inside the refrigerator before looking over the plate. They'd just been left out, seemingly for anyone to take.
Lana finally turned to the other people already in the room, suspicions of who could've offered them were already rampant. There was Alice, but Lana discarded her as the culprit almost as quickly as the thought had entered her head. Alice wasn't the type to do such a thing, and Paris didn't have the spine for something so bold, so that only left the girl watching the news: Leona. Lana's eye lowered at realizing she'd been there too, immediately reaching back with one of her lower arms to take two waffles and approach one of the chairs. Something like this fit Leona to a T, but that still didn't mean Lana was saying 'thanks' any time soon.
Instead she folded both of the waffles before stretching her jaws wide and stuffing them inside. Her many sharp teeth went to work shredding the breakfast pastry with muted vigor. She sat the chair down in a corner of the Lounge that Lana had unofficially claimed whenever someone else was present. Placing the chair down, she planted herself in it. The entire time, her school bag had been carried in her tentacle. The tentacle relaxed and let her bag slip to the floor beside her before stretching down and undoing the flap. Soon Lana had a book in her lower hands, the bookmark had been removed, and she quietly slipped into her little space in the background once again as the time of their first class approached.
Dante
Dante was awake well before his alarm sounded. He'd barely been able to sleep. Excitement gnawed at him, making sitting still difficult, and keeping quiet in his room even more so.
His father, of course, had sent Dante with a lot of his old music stuff. Part of the reasoning was so Dante could keep up with his musical interests, the other part was so Gabriel had space to buy newer stuff, provided he could sneak it past Dante's mother. In addition to the given desk, he had a separate production desk with its own laptop(Gabriel's old one), MIDI controllers, an electric keyboard, and slightly dented Mics that Gabriel couldn't convince himself to throw out sooner. This was pushed up against the right wall upon entering his room, while his bed was against the left. In the back right corner, an electric drum kit was set up with a cord connecting it to the production stuff. Dante knew his father only gifted him the kit so he had an excuse to buy the newer model that had come out last month.
The walls, too, had instruments mounted. Dante's own Les Paul studio guitar, his Fender bass guitar, a nylon stringed classic guitar, and an electric violin were mounted in a neat row above the production table. Dante had used his dad's guitars to learn, starting with a ukelele when he was about 4, and once he got good enough, he'd received the trio of guitars from the members of Against All Odds, his father's band, for his 15th birthday. When learning the violin, he'd been started with a cheap $60 internet order violin to see if he'd actually keep up with it. As he got better, he started saving his money and doing odds jobs until he could afford the electric violin that now sat proudly on his wall.
Music, you see, had been a part of Dante's life since he was born. His father was a musician and music teacher, and his mother was a world class ballroom dancer and now instructor. Given they'd taught him song and dance since he could walk, it was little shock that he'd developed some ability. However, his musical and dancing achievements weren't really his own, as far as he was concerned. He had parents who could all but hand him the ability around to help whenever he needed it. Sure, he still put in considerable effort to these hobbies, but it didn't feel like much of an accomplishment to him because he had such a head start.
Getting into Sakura High, though, that was an accomplishment all his own. All the time he'd spent studying, all the hours he put in to working on his quirk, those were things his parents couldn't hand him. In many ways, waking up here, putting on that coveted uniform, with a vest added under the jacket for personal taste, that was his biggest achievement, because it was wholly his own. While he still enjoyed music and dance like his parents, stepping into the world of Heroes was his dream, and he was finally taking those first steps.
He checked himself over in the mirror. With the exception of the uniform pants and jacket, he was largely dressed the same as he'd shown up for the practical exam. He chuckled at himself, realizing he'd probably looked silly so overdressed. Oh well, that was two weeks in the past now! He took a breath, opening his door to head for the stairs. Sure, there was an elevator, but what fun was that?
He dragged his thumb over his palm, vaulting the railing as his blood formed a rope, letting him swing his way down to the first floor. As the blood released and retracted into his hand, he flipped backwards once before landing on both feet near the kitchen. Humming a tune to himself he was pleasantly surprised to find waffles waiting, clearly left out to take.
"Whoever made waffles, thanks!" Dante called with a bright grin, snatching one up and sticking it in his mouth as he went about starting up the coffee pot. As the heavenly aroma of columbian coffee filled the kitchen, he set about getting his cup, some milk, and sugar ready. He wasn't really a breakfast person, or usually even a morning person at all, but excitement had him awake. Coffee, on the other hand, was something he'd never go without. Pouring his cup, mixing in the milk and sugar, he tasted his brew. Giving an approving nod, he continued to munch on his waffle in one hand whilst sipping coffee with the other.
"Morning everyone!" He announced rather cheerfully to the few that were actually down already. For now, he elected to remain standing, as his excitement wouldn't let him sit down without fidgeting. He took another sip of his morning nectar, feeling the caffeine charge his systems.
"So the day's finally here. We officially start classes!" He grinned happily. ".... I really hope Yuri sensei isn't the homeroom teacher... I still think she secretly wants to kill me...." he laughed nervously, his smile fading as he remembered the hot tempered woman he'd yeeted a robot at during the exam. She was definitely a teacher here, but as long as she wasn't his homeroom teacher, he at least had a chance at escaping retribution for the cryobot incident...
At least he hoped so....
So the room was filling up as time went on, not that she had interacted with them much in her brief stints within the orphanage's walls but she recalled the scents, all the same, the coppery vitae of Leona, the earthy flora of Paris familiar scents and the chimeras self-loathing joined to the mixture along with others from the test day such as the chipper blood boy who now joined them and was making conversation. Given the others she might as well bite the bullet and say something, it's not like she has much else to do while waiting.
"Stating the obvious aside, as long as its not that sugar **** I could care less. Other than morning announcements it's a glorified receptionist in the end unless they actually have them doing anything important" her head raising up from her nails as she casually dips them in a class of water before swapping blocks again "Besides unless there just going to throw her in a glass case with some token retainer shes getting a crack at you either way, so might as well just use it to get something from the entire drama"
"It would be kind of irresponsible if she was, look." Leona, tired eyes not leaving the TV as she addressed Dante. There was a recap going on of a late-night villain fight, Yuri at the forefront. Outnumbered, she was still winning but this was apparently sometime around 3 am in Kyoto. They were obviously leaving out gory details as it suddenly cut to a post-fight shot of her and a few other heroes being tended to by medical personal while the criminals we're carted away before it once again cut to the weather. "My guess, it's gonna be Edzan-Sensei. Plus, she's the psychologist isn't she?" Leona stood up, empty plate in hand, she moved through the lounge back to the kitchen. Paris was still hanging out in there, probably debating on what to do. Leona was aware that Paris was a little, or maybe a lot scared of her. If it was anyone else, she might be offended, but Paris was a really timid girl in general. Leona silently washed her plate, setting it in the drying rack next to the sink before she turned to the refrigerator. Grabbing the orange juice, she grabbed a glass next and poured herself some before she turned to address Paris.
"Make sure you eat." She took a sip of her juice as she walked back out, "And take some deep breaths, there's no reason to be nervous." With that, Leona reentered the common room, her eyes once more focusing on the news. She sat back down, only vaguely listening to anything else that was going on between the students, though nothing interesting was happening on TV either, she turned to look at Alice and Dante, knowing Lana would want to be left alone. "So, how are you two liking the dorms? I'm jazzed we get our own kitchen, and the gym downstairs is pretty cool."
Paris
Paris was awakened from being zoned out by Leona telling her to eat. Eat? Food. Oh, that's a good idea.
Dante was here now, and the gathered students were discussing the teachers. Paris peeked at the tv screen and watched as shots of some heroes, including Yuri, were shown being medically treated after an incident. Will I ever be that brave? She wondered. I'd probably be dead...
Paris went to a table where she couldn't see the tv screen and ate the waffles, which were very fluffy and warm. They made Paris feel a bit more rejuvenated, and eased her shaking. Yeah, she was shaking. And she felt somewhat sick to her stomach, but the waffles helped.
Edzan Miller.png
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEE- the sound of Edzan's alarm clock waking him up was cut off by the piercing noise of crushing metal, sparking wires and the hum of power from Delta Force crushing the clock. That had to be the 6th one this month that Delta Force had turned into nothing more than a piece of scrap metal. buying new ones was getting annoying, it wasn't the price that mattered to Edzan, it was more the hassle of it he disliked. Despite leaving in an apartment by choice Edzan was extremely well off, due to his "efficiency" in his line of work his pay grade was quite high, if he had actually signed his name to the Hero Ranking Administration it was almost guaranteed he'd be somewhere in the top 5, but the pay and prestige didn't matter to Edzan, he refused to live a lavish lifestyle- He'd stay humble at all costs.
sitting up he looked down at the clock that the number of which had stopped in place on. 5:00 A.M it read. Tossing the blankets off of himself he stretched his arms out and looked to the side of the room to Delta Force, who was now adamantly watching his ceiling fan rotate with a slight squeak every few turns, He'd have to get that fixed... Walking out of his room and to the bathroom, he flicked the lights on as Delta Force floated through the wall into the kitchen to put on a kettle of water. Edzan look off his undershirt and looked himself over in the mirror, his scarred muscular body stared back at him, the battle last night was a rough one, He hadn't suffered as much damage as some of the others like Yuri but he still wasn't on full guard and had been hit. it added a few extra scars to his already large collection. he shook his head and tossed the undershirt to the side and began an ice-cold shower.
Walking back into his bedroom he flicked the lights on and fan off, turning to his closet you pulled it open and frowned at one of the pieces of clothing inside. Separated from the rest of his clothes was his old Hero suit, Gatekeeper had told him he should wear it for the first day for some form of nostalgia for the new students. What form of nostalgia would a bunch of teens have for the suit he wore during his 20s??? he decided against it and grabbed his newer, more practically designed hero suit, and got dressed.
after a while of tending to his Bonzai tree, the tea kettle whistled from the kitchen, as he entered and poured himself a cup of hot water he looked toward Delta Force who stared out the window, emitting a low hollow hum toward the birds that perched a few buildings down. Edzan didn't question the behavior, Delta Force has it'd own, albeit strange daily routine as well, after drinking his tea with toast and reading the paper for the happenings from the other night he finally exited his apartment, locking it behind him. walking out to the main lobby passed some of his neighbors who waved to him and receive nothing more than a glance in return- but they were used to this by now.
After a walk in the cool morning air Edzan arrived at Sakura High's gate, pausing to look up at it for a moment before continuing inside and making his way passed the morning laborers of the school and to the door that read '1A' and walked inside. As he waited for his students to arrive he read over their files and ran a rake through the small zen garden he had placed on his desk, as well as a kinetic energy toy that spun around, his shaded glasses placed to one side as he read and yellow eye's glowing brightly.
This year looked promising.
