Blood and Water (♠ Blue Suit ♠)

(I kind of know how to play the piano but to be truly honest with you my singing skills suck xD )

Mia jumped a little when she heard his voice, surprised by the fact that she hadn’t even noticed he had stood up from the bench and now carried the little girl between his arms. She must have surely been in her own little world. Mia stiffened a bit at his invitation, quite unsure on how to respond. Should she head out with him? Or should she not? She nibbled down on her bottom lip before she pushed herself up and rather shyly decided to follow them outside.

(Sorry about the short post. Having a bit of writers block x_x)

((And together, we make an almost talented person \(^.^)/ woo! Lol))

Tome waited for her to start moving, then opened the door and walked out with Fawn. There was a comfortable couch set out on the porch, just for her, and Tome sat down on one end of it with her curled up against his side, legs tucked up so the blanket could cover them and her head on his shoulder, his arm around her. Fawn snuggled in for a minute or two, then shifted just enough to look at Mia and free an arm from her blanket to reach over and touch the human girl's arm with thin, gentle fingers.

"You're Mia, right?" She asked, voice quiet and gentle, a small, sweet smile on her face. "My name is Fawn. I hope you'll be happy here. We can be friends." Tome wanted to protest it, it being too soon to know if Mia was trustworthy or even if he was keeping her, but Fawn rarely ever got to have friends, so he did his best not to care. He would just watch them closely, even if Fawn's innocence and illness unusually kept anyone from wishing her harm.

((That's all right. Anything I can do to help? I'm only here for one, maybe two posts, 'cause its late))

(Hurray! That's close enough xD )

Mia's eyes softened as she felt the little girl's... Fawn's little fingers on her arm. And just then it seemed that all that mattered was the small angel who was snuggling against her brother's side. Mia could see her own sickly baby brother right there, so sweet and innocent, so weak but eager to be so full of life. Mia had spent some years of her life taking care of both him and her mother and each day it passed each day she cherished more and more little Elliot's kindness and gentleness. Mia had even forced herself to believe that heaven had just sent back for their purest and most beautiful angel they had regretted sending down when he died.

The girl there reminded her so much of him. Her lightly flushed face which seemed to irradiate infinite kindness, her pointy ears which seemed to give her the appearance of a fairy tale elven princess. Mia forced herself to speak when she realized she had not said anything back "Nice to meet you, Fawn" She said as she bended dow just a little bit towards her "It would be an honor to be friends with you" Mia's own tone was full of delicacy and tenderness. It was like she even feared to break Fawn with her own breath. It was like having her brother back, in a way, and as such things like vengeance or hatred locked themselves up on a very tiny box on her mind as she looked at her.

(I think I'm okay now! *^* Back and ready to answer!)

Fawn smiled brightly and pulled her hand back again, curling into her blanket and against Tome's shoulder. "I think you'll be happy here." She said quietly, settling into him and watching the trees, the sun, and the lake not far away. "My brother will take good care of you." She added softly, a sort of knowledgeable sureness in her voice.

Tome put his arm around her and turned his head away, resolutely not looking at the human girl he'd bought. He was harsh and stern and violent on the outside, and that was part of his true self as well, but Fawn - Fawn could see through him, all the way to his core. There was something inside him that had driven him to caring for his helpless, ill sister, and something similar would make sure that Mia never wanted for anything any more than Fawn did. Beneath the harsh exterior, he was kind - but that didn't mean he liked her saying it to people.

((Yay ^_^ ))

Mia glanced at Tome when Fawn stopped talking, brow lightly raised. She shook her head and chose to remain quiet. Maybe he was truly kind to his sister, but it didn't mean he would act the same way towards Mia, though he had not been a bad person up until now. She raked her fingers through her braided hair and looked to the side, her amethyst eyes locked on the lake, which seemed to sparkle as the sunlight reflected itself on it. Mia felt herself on a dream, a fairytale again and hugged herself softly, rubbing her arms.

But Mia was not there for a fairytale and she knew she was better off not forgetting that. She looked down to the floor, rather frustrated with herself. She was not allowed to waver, her revenge was all that was left for her to live for. If she was to forget it she was even afraid that she would not only end of forgetting those she wanted to avenge, but her current self as well

( Sorry if there is any mistake! I'm on my phone right now v.v)

Fawn didn't seem to take the silence as heavy, but Tome was sure she knew anyway. She cuddled him and he stayed still and pliant for her for perhaps an hour before the sun had gone down and her eyes were closed. After that, he shifted carefully to pick her up into his arms again, carrying her gently, and moved towards the door to go and put her back into her bed.

"If you need anything else," he said, tilting his head a bit towards Mia when he got to the door, "I'll be upstairs." He took Fawn to her bedroom and tucked her in for sleep, but couldn't quite bring himself to either leave her door fully open or to close it. He was wary of Mia still, despite the apparent kindness she'd shown Fawn, and he wanted to be able to listen for his sister as well. In the end, he kept her door just slightly cracked and took up post sitting against the wall just next to her door, arms loosely crossed and eyes closed. He had slept in worse places before.

Mia nodded at him before he disappeared behind the door. Mia wanted to stay out a bit more, sure it was dark and getting rather cold but she found herself liking it out there. On the other hand, it was sort of mortifying, that place really do reminded her of her former kind of life and though she tried to avoid it, it was starting to get her down.

A soft exhalation escaped her before she stood up snd headed inside, closing the door behind her back carefully. She rubbed the back of her neck with one hand as with the other she brushed the stair's railing. When she reached the second floor, she stopped on her heels, tilting her head to the side as she noticed Tome sitting against the wall just by his sister's door. Wouldn't he be cold there?

She shrugged and stepped inside her own room, crossing her arms as she spotted her bed. She nibbled down on her bottom lip before she rolled her eyes and took one of the sheets from it, folding it loosely and taking it with her to the hall. She then slowly walked to Tome, not making any sound at all with her steps. With a simple movement she unfolded the blanket and slid it over the guy. His eyes were closed he was surely asleep, right? She then turned back to head to her room again.

Tome hadnt planned to sleep until Mia was in her room already, even if he wasnt worried a out her running away or sneaking past him. When a piece of fabric touched him, he tensed but didn't move, and when Mia started to walk away he cracked open an eye to watch her go. Her door closed and he looked at the thin sheet of fabric on him, tilting his head a bit to the side. We was . . . trying to help him? He tired not to let that sink in.

In the morning, Fawn woke coughing quietly in her room, and Tome spent an hour getting her to calm down before he could run down to the kitchen and mix together a cup of medicine for her. Breakfast would have to wait, and so would Mia's training. He would have to keep a careful eye on Fawn today. He didn't want her to get worse.

((Sorry, watching tv and distracted))

Mia had scolded herself for the small gesture she had had towards Tome as she tossed and turned on bed until pretty late in the night. She was wide awake and couldn't somehow get herself to sleep. She was supposed to hate him! Despise him with all her might! Instead, she found herself not feeling either of those towards him, though she didn't harbor feelings of appreciation either and that was enough to give her comfort for now. It was just neutral.. The way she would feel towards a complete stranger.

The crack of dawn soon came and Mia finally gave up on sleeping. It was useless. After some time, she slid her legs to the side before pushing herself up, covering her mouth to hide a yawn. She felt tired but she couldn't sleep. How bothersome. As she opened her room's door she peeked out her door to the hall, managing to catch a glimpse of Tome's figure rushing into Fawn's room with a cup on his hands. Her brows furrowed, Fawn must have woken up sick. Somehow she wanted to enter through that door as well, offer her help, but she knew Tome wouldn't allow it. Maybe not yet. He cherished her, he truly cherished Fawn and for Mia to be near her when she had been on that house for so little was something she didn't think Tome would permit.

So Mia quietly snuck into the bathroom, washing her face and refreshing herself a bit before she stepped into the hall again. She felt useless again. Somebody was sick and she couldn't do anything about it... No it was much worse now, she wasn't even allowed to try. She squeezed her eyes shut for a moment as she leaned herself against the wall, she shouldn't be feeling so vexed about it. Her goal was to make that guy suffer, no to help him. She couldn't even do that much.

Tome spent ten minutes just holding Fawn upright and getting her to take her medicine slowly. It took too long, ht thought, but she couldn't drink while she was clinging and he had to be careful so she wouldn't choke. It hurt, just like it always did, seeing her so helpless and weak, struggling just for air. When she had finished the drink, he sat with her and held her, rocking her gently and whispering soothing words, fingers running over and through her hair to calm her. I she only calmed down, she would feel better. The air would come back. She would be better soon. He hoped.

((At a friends house. Sorry I'm so slow))

Mia picked up her hair as she found herself on the kitchen. She was definitely not doing that for Tome! Though she just hoped he wouldn't kick her out for borrowing his kitchen without asking. Back then, when she was a child, she had been taught how to cook porridge. She had learnt that due to its liquid consistency, it went down easy for anyone with a sore throat, was easily digested and helped to keep the stomach warm longer. So when either her brother, her mother, or both were sick she would cook that for them. It was easy, fast and was the best meal she could give to a sick person. She was also confident on her cooking skills on that area.

She washed the rice by putting it in a strainer, letting the water run on the rice until it became clear. She then added the water and the rice in a small saucepan, turning on medium heat. As she waited for it to boil, she glanced from time to time to the kitchen's entrance. She was risking herself to be kicked out from a house she had been longing to enter for quite the long time, but it didn't feel bad as she would have expected. On the contrary, though she wasn't sure it would be appreciated, she felt good with herself as she felt she was at least trying to be useful. Tome would surely need to be near his sister all the time, so cooking for her, if she was to eat, would be rather mortifying if that meant for him to be away from her even for a second. Mia understood the feeling far too well.

(It's okay ^^ It's no biggie. I'm the one who is being rather slow today ><)

Tome rocked his sister back to sleep for nearly half an hour before she finally calmed and settled, eyes closed and barely conscious. He set her gently down on the bed, and dropped into a protective crouch, a knife from the bedside table in hand, when a knock came on the door. A moment later, he thought it through and knew that someone attacking wouldn't knock. The instinct to protect was still there, but he put the knife away and walked over to answer it.

When he found Mia on the other side, he paused, surprised, and glanced at the steaming bowl in her hands. ". . . Is everything all right?" He had a hunch, thinking who the food was for, but didn't like to make assumptions. His gaze was haggard but hard, worry written in every line, but he still couldn't just accept that someone wanted to help without something in return.

"Here is some food" Mia said, her eyes firmly locked on his. She saw distrust in his eyes and the best she could do was to stare back at them without wavering. She just wanted to be allowed to do that much for Fawn. She had just met her a few hours ago but.. She felt as if she couldn't just leave her alone. So she straightened before speaking again "It's porridge. It's a good meal when someone is sick" Despite their difference Mia was aware that it was still something good to ingest even if the 'person' was an elf. She had been forced to look that up when it had been his brother the one who had been lying weakly on a bed. He was still a halfbreed after all.

Her amethyst eyes softened a little as she realized just how worried Tome was. It was not an easy thing, that was for sure. When you took care of a sick person, fear and concern were always there "She still has got to eat if she is sick. Not eating would be worse" Her tone softened as well. She wanted him to understand. True, she had been brought there with feelings of hatred on her mind but right there she was just hoping for the little girl to get better, that's all she wanted. She hesitated a split of second before adding "There's food for you downstairs as well" She pursed her lips together as she was done talking.

Tome looked at her, at the food, and his expression softened slightly, but whether it was apology, gratitude, or just relief wasn't clear. He took the bowl for her, heedless of the heat of it, and nodded. "I'll wake her." He said, and shook his head. "And I'll eat when she's recovered." He rarely ever ate when she needed to be watched so closely. Making food for just her took long enough as it was, and he'd gone days before without eating more than the few bites she insisted just to stay with her.

He turned to move away but stopped with a hand on the door, half-turned and not looking at Mia. ". . . Thank you." He said, then closed the door quietly behind him and went inside to wake and feed his sister. He was grateful, truly, but there was too much else to be done to show it.

Mia let out a long noiseless exhalation as Tome closed the door. She hadn't even realized she had been holding back her breath until then. Slowly, really slowly a soft smile bloomed on her face. He had taken it! She had at least done something right? She brushed her hair off her face with her hand and stepped back from the door before heading downstairs. Somehow she felt a mix of satisfaction and triumph flooding her heart and she couldn't help it but find herself smiling like an idiot. Good thing she was the only living being down there.

She yawned again as she served herself some food, careful to leave enough for Tome to eat. As she sat on the kitchen's table, she realized what she had just done and sighed, resting her forehead on the palm of her hand as her elbow laid on top of the table. She tried to convince herself that it was just her second day, too early to really accomplish her 'revenge'. She had to gain his trust first, right? Then it hit her, betray him! That was what she had to do, at least that was the only think she could come up with for now. She had to gain his trust to cruelly betray him afterwards. She didn't know how but made herself believe she would come up with any idea after she managed to achieve such a thing first.

Comforted by her new 'plan' she took the spoon with her hand and dug it into the bowl. Mia was, however, a good girl by heart and though she tried to keep focused on her plans, she sometimes couldn't bring herself to do so. It would have been a lot easier if Tome had been the nasty guy she had believed he would be. Instead, he seemed to be just a tough person who would always be dead worried about his little sister. Somehow, she knew she would have given up on her vengeance if she hadn't forced herself to fiercely believe that it was her duty to avenge her mother and brother.

((Oooo, it would be amazing drama later no if she eventually did betray him after he started to trust her and then felt bad and had to come crawling back :3 Maybe he gets in trouble somehow through her betrayal? Like maybe they're at the palace for some short amount of time and she does something under his nose when he's supposed to be watching her? Then he'll be punished and she'll feel even worse. . . I'm such a horrible person xD

Also, we should have someone attack the house or something so she can see his ruthless warrior side > :D ))

Tome spent an hour getting Fawn to eat, and more than a few staying glued to her side as she fought to keep it down and not get sick. Out of everything, the coughing fits were the worst because she felt like she couldn't breathe, but nausea was a close second, that feeling of your insides rebelling and an utter helplessness to stop it or do anything at all about it but lie there motionless. He opened her window to give her air, but it wasn't much help and he had to sit and endure watching her not feel good as he almost always did.

Fawn had been doing so well for the past few months. She hadn't had a day this bad in that long, and he'd thought she was on the upswing, being in a remote, peaceful place like this. It couldn't have been the excitement of Mia's arrival, but Tome couldn't help blaming himself for bringing her, not only because it was a new factor in the house but also because Fawn had disapproved heartily of him buying a person. He didn't much like the thought either, but he'd needed help to be sure she was all right and just the opposite had happened before he could do anything about it. He'd thought he would have more time to break Mia in.

When Fawn was finally sleeping, a deep sleep she wouldn't wake from for a while, he felt safe enough to leave and grab something to eat. The porridge had long since hardened and stuck to the pan, so he took a simple few things - some bread, some cheese, a few fruits - and settled in a chair to attempt eating. He never felt hungry when she was like this, but he forced himself anyway.

(Oh! I like the sound of that! x) Maybe they do get into the palace and she uses that opportunity to get to the king through Tome instead! Maybe she can try to kill the King! She fails, of course, but who she is and what she wanted from the start is finally revealed! Perhaps she had given up on taking revenge on Tome eventually, relieved that she had managed to get into the palace and could take revenge on the King himself instead! As Tome brought her in, he can be accused of being an accomplice of hers on that matter and as the King or whichever reveals to him who Mia was since the beginning and why she had come to him, he does feel betrayed. Mia will feel terrible, of course, because in some way she did ended up betraying him and getting him into serious trouble! What do you think about that?)

(I also agree with that one! xD She will get to see badass Tome! *^* Lol! How would you like it to happen?)

Mia peeked inside the kitchen as she felt someone stepping inside it, watching Tome for a bit as he grabbed some food and settled in a chair. Her brows furrowed when she realized the porridge was no longer edible by now, she should have kept it on low! She scolded herself mentally before walking in. She quietly took the pan between her hands and washed it with hot steamy water, trying to get the hardened meal to soften before removing it by hard rubbing.

She then finally turned to Tome as she waited, her eyes finding their way to him "Is she any better?" She finally asked. She just hoped to hear good news, she hated bad news when it came to sick people. It even gave her a feeling of nausea which, no matter how she tried to stop, never left. She intertwined her fingers behind her back as she waited for his reply.

((Hooray for plans \(^.^)/

Uhhhh. Maybe they just show up in the night? xD I don't know...))

Tome spent a few minutes eating in peace, methodically but not really thinking much about what he was doing, his mind elsewhere. So it was that he failed to notice Mia moving around nearby until she spoke, and he cursed himself mentally for falling down on his guard. Even with Fawn sick - especially with Fawn sick - he had to pay attention, even if he wasn't used to someone else being in the house. He had to always be ready to protect her, no matter what.

". . . Better than this morning." He said finally, after realizing what her question had been. Fawn would never be 'well', but she was at least 'better'. Before this, anyway. But better was a relative term, and he supposed it could still apply in reference to just this morning.

(Whoot! So it's settled x))

(Could be ^^ Maybe wandering thieves or something like that..)

Mia sighed in relief as she nodded, looking at him for a moment before looking the the side "I see" She slowly leaned against the kitchen's sink, before wrapping her arms around her again. It had become a sort of an habit for her. A few years ago she had grown used to hug herself when she felt that she needed some sort of warmth, being it physical or emotional. So she just rubbed her arms lightly with her arms before a tiny smile bloomed on her face.

Mia could just hope for Fawn to get better. It was experiencing the same mortifying feeling all over again and though it did depress her quite a bit, she still thought that the smile on that little girl's face was worth it. Her grip around her arms tightened a little before her gaze turned back to Tome. He was a good brother, that was something she could grant to him.

((Did you want to just skip to that? Sorry for not replying, I've got a really busy day today, and I just natter to check since I didn't feel like just going on about him taking care of Fawn again lol she's just sleeping now))

(No, It's perfectly fine. I understand, real life comes first! ^^ Umm skip to what? The people sneaking into the house thingy? If so, yeah sure!)

((I honestly have no idea what 'natter' was supposed to be O.o but yes xD I will skip in just a few seconds when I grab my laptop))
Two days passed and Fawn got better, returning to a more normal state of being though Tome made her stay in bed and recuperate still. She obeyed because she too knew she was weak and needed the rest, and while she did that he got to finally show Mia around. Her duties were to clean, when needed, and to maintain the house when he couldn't. Now that he knew she could cook she would do that as well, with a list of things that were Fawn's favorites that he usually brought back on supply runs. He would still have to do that himself, because he didn't trust her not to run away, and would still have to leave an attendant with Fawn because he didn't trust Mia enough to leave them alone together.

It was after those two days that disaster struck. It had just grown dark, and Tome, Fawn and Mia were all still in the sitting room, having eaten a late supper there, when Tome heard noises. Like footsteps, quiet scrapes that could've been ignored by anyone but him. He stood abruptly, a hand on Fawn's shoulder to keep her in place, and moved to the door that led outside, putting his back to the wall and listening closely.

"Don't move a muscle." He said, quiet and serious, to the two girls in the room. "Don't speak."

Mia had not really tried hard to learn everything Tome expected her to do. She had done such duties on her former 'jobs' and actually compared to those what she had to do on that house was very little. She would sometimes feel rather ticked off when he wouldn't allow her to do certain things because of his lack of trust towards her but she would quickly shrug it off, not really wanting to get mad over that matter, nor really having the right to do so. Hey, at least he allowed her to cook, that was a start.

Having so much free time didn't do her any good, specially when she had barely gotten any sleep since she had arrived that house. Her first night she hadn't even slept a bit and the next two nights she had to force herself to at least lay down on the bed and keep her eyes shut. She had managed to sleep only 3 hours the first night of the two, and the next one only 2. Mia felt somehow knackered but still didn't seem to be enough to get her to sleep! What made things difficult to her was the fact that when she lacked sleep she felt irritable and she knew she would better not lose her temper without really noticing it. Bags were starting to appear bellow her eyes and she couldn't just understand why the heck was it that she couldn't really seem to get a wink of sleep. Was it that her thoughts just kept on haunting her all the time?

So when she saw Tome's stiffened position as he urged them nor to move or speak she felt rather confused. She almost even made the mistake of asking out loud what was going on but fortunately stopped herself from doing so. It was a delayed response but her mind finally realized what was going on and she stiffened as well, trying to listen carefully to any sound. The fear mixed with wariness was suddenly enough to snap her out of the trance she had felt herself in on the last few hours, where she just absently followed orders.

Tome moved on silent feet to a nearby end table, pulling out the drawer and handing Mia a knife. "Anything gets into this room, you keep it at bay." He commanded, and moved back to the door again, a hand on the knob. "Stay put and keep her safe." He gave them one last look, then slipped outside, closing the door silently behind him.

He crept away, glad for his faerie heritage because it allowed him to see just a little better in the darkness outside. In the faint glow from the curtained windows, he caught a shape and rushed it, slamming a fist into the figure's throat and clamping a hand over its mouth to keep it silent as it suffocated. He wasn't cruel, even if he was a killer, so he took the man's knife and drove it through his heart to kill him quickly and relatively painlessly, lowering the body carefully to the ground so it made no noise.

There were six more, by his count, but he had a weapon now and darkness was on his side. It wouldn't take long.

Mia clenched her fingers around the knife which had been handed to her. She glanced at Fawn's direction before she looked over to the door. Funnily enough, far from feeling scared she felt a rather strange rush of adrenaline spreading through all her body, making her feel more awake than ever. She had given a duty to protect and as such she would do everything she could to fulfill it. She kept herself focused, for once all her troubling thoughts blissfully leaving her, there were only two important things on the room Fawn and the door. Nothing else mattered, nothing else at all..

Mia was brought back to a time when something similar had happened to her when she was little. Thieves had snuck inside her house on the woods. It had been one of the most scariest things she had ever experienced. Her father's hand had wrapped itself against her mouth as he held her close. She could still remember how suffocating had that felt. Fortunately, the thieves took what they wanted and just left, nor her or her parents had been harmed that night. Didn't mean it would be like that in the present time. If needed to, she would force herself to attack whoever would dare to get near them.
