(Since Nintendo never specified Link's past in Skyward Sword, I will be going off of a fan animatic that can be considered canon.)
Born in the sky-bound settlement known as Skyloft, Link's very birth brought sadness. His life came at the cost of his mother's. His father was devastated, but did his best to raise their son. Every week they would put flowers on her grave, and on the anniversary of her death they would make her favorite meal and pray to the God's. Even if Link never knew his mother, and didn't have much, he and his father were happy. His father was one of the best knights Skyloft had ever known, and his courage was unbound. But, like all heroes, he fell. Literally.
It was a cool night. Link's father had been called in on an extremely important mission. A group of Skytails, giant, maneaging insects that haunted tell skies, were on their way to the village, and the best knights were assembled to face them. They fought through the night, the knights eventually fighting off the Skytails. So Link ran to greet his father. So he waited. And waited. And waited. But he never came. The headmaster of the Knight Academy, a good friend of Link's father handed the boy his father's hat. Link was devastated, much like how his father was. He called out for his father, but there was no answer. Link was truly alone.
Except he wasn't.
On the day of his father's funeral, Link sat alone, cornered as the rain drenched him. He was alone. He had no one. Not his mother. Not his father. No one. But then, the rain stopped. He looked up, and saw a girl holding an umbrella over him. It was Zelda, the Headmaster's daughter. They became quick friends, and Link was given a home in the Academy.
Years passed, and Link and Zelda became even closer. When they were both about 17, their lives changed forever. While out flying with Zelda after being victorious in the Wing Ceremony, a tornado of darkness swept Zelda away. Link, being the brace hero he was, went after her, but was knocked out and taken back to Skyloft. Upon coming to and explainjng what had happened, the Headmaster told him to rest, as he thought that Link was just loony and tired. But that night, Link saw a ghostly woman through his window. He followed her all the way to the statue of Hylia, and after walking into a secret room under the statue, obtained the titular Skyward Sword.
The next morning, the Headmaster now believed Link. The bit was given the Headmaster's blessing, his own knight uniform, and set off to the surface through a hole in the clouds. He met many strange creatures while down there, including the first incarnation of the Sheika woman Impa. He soon obtained the Hylian shield, which is indestructible, and can withstand hits from anything. Soon, his sword got an upgrade as well. After blessing the Skyward Sword with the flames of the three Goddeses of Wisdom, Power, and Courage, the Skyward Sword became the legendary Master Sword ,the Bane of Evil. He even obtained the Triforce, a power created by the Three Goddesses that gives whoever proves themselves worthy nearly unlimited power. But Link never used it, only using the Triforce of Courage, since the Triforce chose that that was his chosen aspect.
Link also learned that Zelda was the reincarnation of Hylia, the minor goddess that was tasked with leading the creations of the God's, but was killed by the Demon King centuries ago. Ghirahim, the Demon King's sword given sentience and a form, captured Zelda to use her as a vessel to free the Demon King, as he'd been sealed away by Hylia. Link faced off against Ghirahim, and even though the Demon Lord was defeated, the Demon King was released. Demise, the root of all evil. Upon calling Ghirahim to him and briefly retreating, Link and Demise had their fateful showdown for Hyrule, the Triforce, and Zelda.
The battle was grueling, but the Spirit of the Hero prevailed, and Link stabbed Demise in the head. But upon his death, Demise made a promise. A reincarnation of his anger and hatred would be born again, forever to haunt the blood of Hylia, and the Spirit of the Hero. And with that, the Surface was repopulated, peace restored to the Surface. Link and Zelda were married, and their descendants would fight alongside the Heroes for generations to come.
Personality:
Link, while not mute, doesn't speak much. He only really speaks when it's necessary, and he prefers to let others talk for him. Despite this, he has a naturally strong will that was heightened upon gaining the Triforce of Courage. No matter the odds, no matter the cost, Link will stand firm against evil, never bowing, never breaking. Other than that, he seems to be quite shy, while also having a bit of a sarcastic side to him. He truly loves Zelda, and she was his main reason for fighting Demise. He is also shown to be quite intelligent, being able to solve any puzzle, and exploit any weakness no matter how small it is.
Skills (Normal, Human-like stuff):
Master Swordsman
Strategy
Problem Solving
Powers/Abilities (Superhuman stuff):
Triforce of Courage:
The Triforce of Courage was designed to fight anyone who misuses the Triforce of Power, and such was made to counter it. Firstly, it gives the user an unbreakable will, even when the odds seem impossible. Secondly, it gives the user immunuty to mind control, dark magic, and other dark arts. It has been shown to directly protect Link from harm at some points, but that was in a non-canon comic series, so it doesn't count. It also gives the user incredible problem solving skills, showing weaknesses and helping them exploit those weaknesses.
Weaknesses (If anything notable):
Stubborn to a fault
A follower, not a leader
Triforce can only protect him from dark magic, not other kinds of magic.
Stubborn to a fault
Others (Trivia, Theme music, etc.) (Optional):
Link is, besides the ones in the original two games and Twilight Princess, the only Link who is right handed. He is also the only Link to have the complete Triforce. It is heavily imp!ied that all of the Zelda's from all the other games are a descendant of Link and Zelda from Skyward Sword.
