Realistic or Modern Bennington High for Special Scholars

Xavier could see how he scared the kid, but couldn't tell what it was from. It could have just been the school in general. Maybe just from being startled in the first place? Or maybe he'd seen Xavier talking to himself and that creeped him out. Yeah, that seemed reasonable enough. Instantly Xavier felt bad for scaring the kid and shook his head, though he smiled kindly at the boy. "We both weren't paying attention so it's both out faults," he said and smiled. "I'm Xavier by the way. Safe to assume you're new here?"

"Yeah," Lucas grimaced and attempted to laugh, although it came out as more of a depressed sigh. "Are you new too? Because I am so, so, so lost." In the pit of his stomach, he felt a storm begin to brew.

'Do you realize how stupid you sound? "So, so, so lost"? Stand up straight and introduce yourself, you-'

Lucas coughed, hoping to block out the inevitable insult that would've followed this "voice's" critique. The meds obviously weren't working, so how could they be "voices"? Perhaps it was his conscience and it happened to be stronger than most people's.

As ordered, Lucas fixed his posture and stuck out his right hand.

"I'm Lucas."

Xavier smiled a little and waved, but didn't shake Lucas's hand. Nothing personal, he just didn't shake hands is all. He laughed lightly. "It's a pleasure to meet you Lucas. I'm not new actually, this is my second year," he explained. "Don't worry. Lots of people get lost here, even after a year. I only know my way around because I skip classes to wonder. Here, I can show you around if you want," he offered, not even pausing when he told Lucas about him skipping classes. It was true, and he didn't feel like he had to lie to the other boy even if Anna had showed up again and was lecturing him again.

Lucas dropped his hand, a little confused. He kept his face neutral, or at least as neutral as possible, for fear of yet another "critique". He could feel himself tense up at the word, but smiled back at Xavier. "Yeah, this place is huge. Could you show me where dorm twenty is? My parents were supposed to drop my stuff off there and I want to know if it's there yet."

Roxanne stumbled around the corner. Her voice caught in her throat when she saw Xavier. "Oh thank God," she choked out. "Xavier..." She suddenly slammed into the wall, her head spinning as her breathing quickened. She slid slowly down to the floor. Two attacks in one day? It's getting worse.

Xavier smiled apologetically at Lucas. "Sorry about that. Nothing towards you, I just don't shake hands. And I can totally take you to your room!" He said happily, glad to be doing something. Turning in the direction they would need to go, Xavier opened his mouth to say something but stopped when he saw Roxanne. It took less than a second for him to cross the distance and kneel down in front of his best friend, looking her in the eyes and rubbing her back soothingly. "Hey now Roxie, calm down for me ok? Just calm down, everything's fine." He spoke in a soft voice, continuing to mumble calming nothings to his friend and throwing a glance back at Lucas.

Lucas stood for a few seconds as the situation grew increasingly awkward and Roxanne grew increasingly panicked. He didn't have any advice; he'd only ever had one panic attack, and that was in the hospital, alone in his room. He had no advice and to be witnessing something as personal as this seemed like an intrusion. That said, he followed Xavier's lead and knelt beside her, hoping that this was the right thing to do.

Viviana walked out of Zane's office, shaking her head. She was officially annoyed. She walked to the hall and began going towards her brother's room for real finally.

Roxanne nodded. Her breathing started to slow as she was just short of hyperventilating. She focused on Xavier's eyes, breathing in through her nose and out through her mouth. It was one of the few helpful things the shrinks had taught her. "Thank you," she said, finally catching her breath. "I'm just glad I found you in time..." She shook her head, glancing at Lucas for the first time. "Who the hell is he?"

"Oh, hi, I'm Lucas....I'm new," He felt his voice weaken as her gaze fell on him. This was awkward to him, very, very awkward. What a way to meet someone, right? Watch while not being able to do a thing as they have a panic attack? Sounds like a great new way to socialize. "I'm sorry, I can go if you want. I don't know what to do when things like..."He paused to search for the right word, but came up with nothing,"...this..happen."

Xavier smiled at Roxanne and patted her on the back a few more times. "It's no problem. What type of person would I be to let you have a full blown attack?" He said, then turned to look at Lucas and back at Roxanne. "Yeah, he's Lucas. Kinda ran into him and decided to help the newbie. Now remember to play nice Roxie, 'kay? And don't worry about that," he said, directing the last part at Lucas. "After all, the mini shrinks aren't the only ones who learn things." A small smirk briefly flashed but turned into Xavier's easily practiced smile just as quickly as he stood up.

"So....off to dorm twenty?" The open hallway made him a bit uneasy. He preferred closed spaces any day. For some reasons, it just seemed like less bad things happened in his bedroom or more recently, whatever room he happened to be sleeping in. However, that wasn't the case for other people's rooms. Being in someone else's bedroom seemed like a violation of privacy, like he was witnessing something he was too young to see-

'Don't get crazy now. Too young to see what?' Damn it. Every time something important, truly important came to mind, it was always shut down by him. Lucas pushed his shoulders back as an automatic response to his mental presence.

Roxanne stood, no longer shaky. She glanced at the newcomer. "So he's not one of the wardens, then?" she asked Xavier, glancing at Lucas. She flipped her red hair over one shoulder.

Xavier looked at Lucas and tilted his head to the side slightly, looking the other boy over. "I don't think so. Now come on, let's get you to room 20," he said, smiling at Lucas and gesturing down the hall.

(Short post is short)

"Wardens? Aren't I a little young to be a warden?" Lucas followed them, taking in his surroundings. The halls were paneled with a dark wood that matched the beige walls nicely. He supposed he could grow to like these halls, even if they were a bit too out in the open for his taste. This place wasn't that bad, from what he had seen so far. Xavier and Roxie (short for Roxanne?) were nice, but seemed just as damaged as Lucas was; this felt like the right place for him, whether or not he liked it.

Most of the doors they passed were shut and he wondered what was behind them. Perhaps they were dorm rooms? Classrooms maybe? His parents did say that this doubled as a high school. "And is this place so bad that it calls for a prison analogy?" Lucas held back a smile, waiting to imitate their reactions to him.

Xavier glanced back at at Licas and chuckled quietly. "It's actually not. The anology is mostly used for kids who don't really wanna be here, like me or Roxanne here," he explained and jabbed his thumb at said red-head. "The wardens are what the kids here to study medicine have been called, and we are referred to as prisoners mostly by ourselves. I think if any of the non-crazies called me that I'd either kick them or continue the joking based on the person." He laughed a little, knowing that it really was that simple. With Viviana he knew he could joke with her all day, but that Zane guy he'd rather just shove down some stairs. Don't think like that, a voice chastised and Xavier glanced briefly to the side to see Anna had started walking next to him. Joy. Turning his attention from the start of a lecture on how it was bad to hurt people, Xavier checked the numbers on the doors and smiled victoriously when they reached 20. "Ah ha! Here we are my fine furry friends. And don't worry Roxie, you don't actually have fur," he said with a smirk, glancing at his friend and mentally shivering at a memory. He'd seen everyone as part animals for a weekend, and it was not fun for anyone invoked.

"Thanks, man, I appreciate it. I have to see if my stuff is here yet. You can come in if you want to." Lucas opened the door to discover that his parents had already dropped his things off. Or, he should say, his mother; his father, last he heard, was on a business trip, as usual. Lucas sighed and stepped in to the neat room. His bed was made, the desk was bare, and the scent of fresh pine cleaner hung in the air. If he was being honest, it was a little too clean, but he would soon take care of that.

Viviana was inside his room talking to his room on his side of the room. They both looked up at the three surprised with their matching blue eyes. "Oh, your roomy finally got here..." Viviana muttered and looked at her brother with a smile.

(Hope you don't mind...)

"Good, as long as we don't have a repeat of that incident." Roxanne rolled her eyes. At least she had been a fox. Foxes were awesome. She leaned against the doorway, glancing up. Viviana was standing in the room. "What the hell?" she hissed. "What do you think you're doing in here?"

Xavier laughed at Roxanne's comment and rolled his eyes, pausing when he saw Viviana and her brother. He waved at him, wondering wich personality was there at the moment before he smiled at Viviana. She was ok, considering she wasn't all crazy acting like the other mini-doctors. Walking over, Xavier sat criss cross on the floor at the foot of Lucas's bed, looking up at Viviana. "Hey. I didn't know this was your brother's room."

"Oh, I didn't even realize you were here," Lucas said to Viviana's brother and blushed, "I'm sorry." He moved his suitcases from the middle of the room more to his side of the room. "Do you all know each other?" Of course they do. At that remark, Lucas cringed a little, but recovered quickly. Go away. He didn't need this right now, not when he was around people.

Viviana rolled her eyes at Roxanne's rudeness as she held a hand out towards her brother. "This my older brother, he's a student here too."

Her brother looked at Lucius and waved his hand. "No its perfectly fine, and, um, I only know V here." He gestured to Viviana the same way she gestured to him when he called her V. They smiled at each though her brother seemed rather nervous.

Roxanne's eyes darted between the two. "How did you get saddled with that?" she asked. Normally, people would be asking the sane sibling that, but that wasn't the way things worked here. Here, the sane people were the ones that were considered broken, as though their perfection wasn't the way most of the world was. They were the minority.

The siblings looked at each other and then back at Roxanne. "How'd we get saddled with what?" they asked in unison, almost as if they were twins and not a year apart.

Xavier burst out laughing when the siblings spoke in unison, quickly controlling himself and fighting the laughter down to giggles. "Sorry," he said sheepishly, his shoulders still shaking slightly in silent laughter. "You two are just so similar, but not, if you get my point." As soon as the words left his mouth a voice was laughing next to him. A quick glance showed no one though, and Xavier wanted to hit his head on the floor. Fake people he could deal with just fine. Disembodied voices though, those were harder. He pushed the voice down until it was just nudging at the edge of his thoughts, turning to look up at Roxanne. "But what are you talking about?"

(Sorry for late post. Been busy with work)
