Daniel Payne

Daniel adjusted his leather book bag as he strolled down the sidewalk, his calm vibrato radiating with each step. He had just now left the library, knowing Arryn had went on ahead of him...

Soon after the trio had began to settle down, Elena made suggestions to Arryn and himself on where to find employment. Arryn took the labor route, while Daniel wished for something more laid back; dog training... As a young boy Daniel has dabbled in the craft, knowing his condtion made canines treat the werewolf as “alpha” while the rest of the dogs would easily submit. It was no different in this world, just that the dogs often were smaller, and less of a pain. The only downside of his job was the lack of it. Daniel often spent most of his time reading, seeing as it took him no more than ten minutes to straighten out a Labordor and even less for a smaller dog. With suggestions from Elena, he had decided to study this world in it’s entirety. Over the past month he dabbled in politics and psychology, finishing that topic last week. Now he had begun to delve into classical literature, starting with Shakespeare and his tragedies... The past month had been eventful to say the least.

Daniel snapped from his reveries as he realized he had arrived at the location he needed to be at, Elena’s. Making his way up the steps, he gently placed a fist on the door to knock, however the door silently opened. She needs to remember to lock her door, silly girl. Letting himself in seeing that Ana and Arryn were in the living room of her home, along with a stranger and Elena. Not wanting to butt into conversation, Daniel set his book bag down beside the door, and removed his sunglasses. Today he was wearing a white button up shirt, the tops left open to keep him cooler. He also wore teal slacks, along with a pair of brown loafers.

After putting his stuff away, Daniel made his way to Arryn, slightly confused in what he just walked into. “Anyone care to explain what I missed?”

Rai was woken up at 5 am by the alarm clock he dug up from a "yard sale" as the humans called it. It was a strange custom, but he won't complain. He was able to procure a number of useful items for a low price, such as clothing, furniture and silverware. The red haired man got up from the sleeping bag and pile of clothes he called a bed. In truth, it was better that what he was used to sleeping on, so he was quite satisfied, though Lisa didn't seem to agree.

He stumbled into the bathing room of the apartment and splashed his face with water. He then proceeded to poke through their stores of food. There was not much left, only half a loaf of bread and a jar of fruit spread. Rai made himself a sandwich with what they had and prepared for the day ahead. He stuffed his disenchanted Taiko drums into a bag, along with his uniform into a dufflebag... Speaking of clothes, Rai realized he had been walking around naked since he woke. It was a habit that he has had trouble with breaking. Two hundred years of wearing little more than a pair of pants or a loin cloth did not prepare the former god of Thunder for Earth.

He managed to dig up a pair of relatively clean shorts and a t-shirt from his bedding pile. With himself dressed, Rai slung his dufflebag onto his shoulder and headed out of the apartment complex. The first order of business of that day was to perform a "workout". There was no telling how long he and Lucrezia would stay on Earth, so it would be ideal to train this pathetic human body into something more akin to his previous body. It was something rather simple: 100 push ups, 100 sit ups, 100 squats, and 10 kilometers of running. It took him about an hour to completer the first three and then proceeded to run to work.

Rai had found employment with a human man that owned an establishment known as a "gym". It was a place where humans would go to train themselves. Of course Rai jumped at the opportunity to work at such a place. It was a training paradise for him. The man that owned the gym was called Maxwell, and he was kind enough to allow Rai to use the equipment freely after work. Though Rai was originally reluctant to receive assistance, he soon discovered that Maxwell knew the most efficient ways to train as a human.

The first hour of work, he went through all the equipment, making sure it was clean and operational. By the time the first people came, Rai was finished with cleaning and began to work the reception table. This was the part of the job he cared the least for. There was little to do except draw in hormonal women with a friendly smile. Maxwell appreciated the additional business and helped Rai study to become a certified fitness instructor. Though Rai did not wish to stay on Earth for an excessive period of time, the certification would allow him to make more money than the measly £8 per hour he currently made. It wasn't even 8:00, and there was already a small group of women walking through the door, eyeing Rai.

"Good morning, ladies. Welcome to Maxwell's Maximum Gym. Can I help you with anything?"

"Yes. A piece of you." The women giggled among themselves before the woman who spoke returned her attention to Rai. "So, hot stuff, are you going to help us clueless women with our workout?"

"If you show me your membership cards, I'll find someone to help you ladies..."

"No, we were asking about you. It would be great if you would help us get anywhere close to how fit you are."

"Sorry, I'm legally not allowed to assist you in that capacity. But you are free to use the equipment if you present your membership cards. If you don't have cards, then I can help you three sign up and then I can arrange for someone to help you in your work out." Rai reached under the counter to pull out a clipboard holding the papers. He knew the women were hitting on him, but he didn't care. They customers at best and nuisances at worse. He did not understand how humans found their mates, even after the time he spent on Earth. They always considered what would gratify their sexual desires over producing strong offspring, which pointless and a disgrace.

"Fine, we'll settle with memberships, but one of these days, I'll get you."

Rai put up with these kinds of everyday, but paid little to no heed. He simply maintained his smile whenever they were present and pushed to make them join. He would be finally finished with his shift at 3 pm. At this point, he would begin the trek back home. Rai would have to change back into his casual clothes as he head back. He did not want to risk damaging the uniform that Maxwell gave him beginning his position at the gym.

Along the way home, Rai found a relatively popular park where he could set up for a few hours. All the wages he earned from Maxwell went straight into Lisa's hands. He didn't mind, as he never liked to manage his resources; that was a job for someone else. However, he have some things he wanted to purchase for his own use, so he found a sort of "part-time job." Everyday, Rai would spend two or three hours in a public place playing his Taiko drums. They may have lost their magic when he came to Earth, but it didn't mean they lost their usefulness. He was able to earn several pounds playing everyday, with which he saved up for a new set of drums. He was heading towards the park's central fountain and passing underneath a tree when a figure dropped on top of Rai.

The red headed man was sent to the floor, with his knees and hands taking most of the damage. Both his knees were mildly scraped and his hands were a bit scratched from the fall. He was bleeding a bit from his knees, but that wasn't much of a concern. A bandage and some Neosporin could easily fix it, but the real concern was why the heck was a person dropping him from a tree.

The person on top of him rolled off and spoke in a feminine voice, "Woops. You should watch where you're walking."

"Ugh. You should watch where you're climbing." Rai got up soon after. "Are you not going to apologize, missy?" Upon saying this, Rai took a look at his assailant. It was an albino girl wearing minimal clothing and knee length boots. She seemed familiar, but Rai couldn't place his hand on where he had seen her before. "Say...have we met before? You look familiar."

Tannur - Some park somewhere
Living on Sol or Earth as it was so dully called by it's inhabitants hadn't been Tannur's idea of fun, all the new devices he had encountered, lack of contacts to fence stolen goods to and the need to keep Silver out of too much trouble had forced him to seek honest work. Unfortunately there wasn't much call for the thieving arts in London nor for gutter-fighting, luckily he had managed to find a job in a sandwich bar on the same street as the place where Silver worked and had gained a small amount of local fame for his deft knifework. It had only been sheer luck that they had learned about the various documentation they needed before their magic ring had expired and a special form of hell for him to make Silver sit through all the forms.

Storming into the park he looked around grumpily, it was one of the few times he hadn't been around to make sure Silver actually got to work and she had naturally goofed off, he considered it a miracle that she had managed to find a job and had made it a personal mission to make sure she kept it. Hopefully if he found her here she wouldn't get too excited and jump on him, he didn't want to have to explain how he managed to get grass stains on his top or get his hair messed up, he had decided to keep the longer hair he had ended up with on arrival and didn't want to end up regretting it, the noisy contraptions they used to cut hair on Sol still made him uneasy.

Hearing a screech he sprinted towards the sound and found Silver standing over a young man who thankfully could get up by himself. Quickly placing himself between the two of them he looked the stranger over for injuries. "I'm so sorry for my friend, are you alright? Is there anything I can do to help?" He said quickly with a commendable level of sincerity considering how often he'd had to make the same speech.

Midmorning
"Wake up, Margo."

Margo stirred in her bed, head heavy and eyelids even heavier. She struggled to move her body upwards into an awkward, lopsided sitting position. Beautiful brunette locks fell down in straight waves as if she didn't toss and turn at all during the night. If there was something the woman would never get used to, it was sleeping soundly. Or sleeping at all, actually. In her world, sleep was something she didn't really need. Of course, having a human body meant rest was inevitable, but certain spells and enchantments provided her with enough energy to last most of the day. Ever since she arrived on Earth, however, it seemed those spells were naught. Many other things that aided her day-to-day life were also gone, like the tattoos on her thighs and upper arms that gave her tremendous strength. Now she was just weak and flimsy. Very, very weak and flimsy.

Light tan eyelids finally fluttered open to reveal bright amber pearls. She turned towards the door and saw a man standing there with his muscular arms crossed and a puzzling expression. His black hair was slicked back and there were signs of a fresh shave. The gold specks in his blue eyes seemed to dance with amusement as sunlight shined through the open window. As the warm air finally touched Margo's tanned skin, she let out a deep sigh. At least the sun was the same on Earth. That was something she was thankful for.

"Good morning," said the tired woman as she remained sitting, this time her back straight and body stiff like a tree trunk. Verbally greeting others was something she never did. Every now and then she'd let some words out, but her speech was mostly through nods and eye communication. Garrett, the owner of the place she was residing at and the man standing at the door, had scolded her by saying she was being rude and not very friendly. "If you want to stay and work here," he had said, "you need to greet people and ask them how they are. Don't just stare and use actions. You need to speak too." There was some resistance at first, but she eventually learned to follow along her risk suspicion. From the things she'd seen on the streets on London, suspicion was the last thing she wanted, especially without her magic or strength.

Garrett nodded in approval before ushering the young woman up and towards the bathroom that was connected to her room. "You need to wash and get dressed. We have a few reservations for lunch and I need you ready to serve." After speaking, the man made his exit and allowed Margo to get ready. She was going to ask a few questions, but Garrett was strange in that regard. He would answer some and avoid others, often leaving before she even got the chance to open her mouth. That happened to be one of those occasions. Truth be told, he kind of reminded her of a certain half-elf she happened to despise and it was a bit unnerving.

Having fallen into a robotic routine of showering, brushing her teeth, fixing her hair, and throwing on what people of Earth considered "casual clothes", Margo finished getting ready in less than twenty minutes. The only thing that she still had trouble with was the shower and it's ability to annoy her during every use. It was very inconsistent with the hot water, which explains why Garrett even allowed her to stay there anyways; no one else could.

Margo sighed with moderate satisfaction as she looked at herself in the smudged mirror she found the side of the road. There were minor scratches and faded marks on it, but it still gave her a good look at how awfully skinny she appeared. Her body had a slim and soft glow, greatly contrasting the former muscle she used to sport. As Morgana, she was very fit and could easily take on a man twice her size even if she may not have seemed like the type. Garrett had told her of a few neighborhood "gyms" she could go to if she wanted to "tone" up some more, which she didn't really question or argue with. If battling a gym was what she needed to do to get stronger, she was going to do it. She'd taken on more difficult opponents anyways.

Silver stared blankly at the redhead, then laughed. "Apologise? When that was clearly your fault?! No way! You're obviously not very smart, so I will forgive your stupidity just this once! Aren't I nice?" Silver grinned.

"Don't answer that, I already know. I'm the cutest, sweetest cat ever!" Apart from the fact that she's clearly not a cat and can't even turn into one currently. "Oh...Speaking of cats, maybe a cat would help me get the baby birds...I can't quite reach the nest, and the branches are too thin to support my - familiar? You know me?"

Ceasing her meaningless babble of words for a second, the albino crouched, leaning in close to the red haired man, before proceeding to sniff him.
"I'm not sure...Maybe you know me, maybe you don't. It doesn't matter anyway, it's difficult to smell- Tannur!" The puzzled frown vanished from her feautures, and she hugged the black haired man from behind, making a noise that could be considered a purr of contentment at his sudden appearance. "This stupid man distracted me from climbing with his bright hair! And I couldn't catch those birds..."

The baby birds cheeped away, unaware of how close they came to being eaten by an incredibly hyper teenager.

Marcus Felis, home / pet shop - MagicPenguin MagicPenguin
"I-I'm fine, really, you don't have to worry about finding a job!" The boy protested half-heartedly, looking distressed. "You should be putting all of your energy into finding that witch so we can go home!"

Though, he soon gave up protesting. After all, it had been a month with no sign of Lucrezia, and he was slowly losing hope. Besides, even after killing her, how would they get home?

He didn't bother raising those concerns, and didn't speak again, merely nodding to show he heard Roland's words. Though, he cursed softly as he looked down and realised the prince's words were correct - there was a massive hole in the side of his shirt. With a sigh, he went and changed it into...An identical shirt, just minus the hole. He put the damaged article of clothing on his bed to be fixed later, then left, heading to the large pet shop where he worked. It was large enough to have both a groomer's and a vet's attached, so it was quite a busy place. Not that Marcus minded. Really, it was more the dealing with people that tired him out. There was no time of day when he was calmer than when simply cleaning out a cage, or feeding the animals. And he loved it when people bought their dogs in and they came running up to him for attention.

The other employees had even remarked on how good he was with animals, and some had mentioned what a good career choice it would be for him to become a veterinary nurse. But he was content as he was - there was no point pursuing a career here, when he could have to return to Aether at any moment.

Changing his shirt once again into the shop's uniform with a nametag attached, Marcus started cleaning out a rabbit cage, while keeping an eye on the door - the rabbit cages were near the door, and it would not be good if the cage door was open when a particularly rambunctious dog charged in.

Juniper Arc
Blackrock Ramparts

"It would appear that the battle had already begun." Juniper turned to face Roxus, her second in command and one of the most skilled archers that she has ever met. Behind him Juniper's unit stood, anxious at the sound of the growing battle outside of the castle's walls.

She turned her body to better face her unit, roaming her eyes over them with a sense of melancholy came over her. She began to remember the events that had lead up to this moment. Queen Lucrezia had planned the evacuation of all of her subjects excluding a group that would purposely be left behind to defend the castle. It would also act as a distraction while the queen finished her preparations for the final plan. Her alongside Juniper and a few other high ranking individuals would then retreat into the castles interior and order all remaining forces to disband and retreat once the preparation was finished. It hadn't taken long to gather her own troops around her in one of the castle's courtyards as they formed a half circle around her while Juniper herself standing on top of a wooden table scarred from constant use. "To those of you who are unaware it is likely that we will be assaulted by the hero and the Church of Light in the near future. Queen Lucrezia has ordered the evacuation of all those who can not fight. A group of soldiers will be left behind to both defend the castle and delay the hero. To any who wish to cast down their arms and flee I shall not judge you. It is very likely that you will perish if you decide to remain, and if not you will live the rest of your lives as enemies of the public. The decision is yours."

Juniper waited patiently as not a single soldier in her unit moved. They stood their ground as if their feet had grown roots and burrowed themselves into the earth. Taking a deep breath she nodded, "Very well. I want everyone to double their training until I say so. If everything goes well then I hope that this battle will not be our last. Dismissed." With that the troops fanned out and went their separate ways as they returned to their scheduled duties. Just as the queen had suspected the forces of the church had began their assault a short time after the announcement. Through weeks of battle they had pushed the reserve forces back to the castle, growing bolder and bolder with every apparent victory.

"Troops the time is upon us. Our mission is to support the main force with hit and run tactics. Strike hard and fast and then retreat back into the main forces. If you encounter the hero under no circumstances are you to try and face him head on, avoid all contact with him at all costs. Watch each others backs and don't act dumb, these are trained forces backed by the might of the church not some thrown together militia." She roamed her eyes over her troops one last time before hefting her spear in her right hand. With a fierce battle cry she turned and leapt down from the ramparts and onto the ground outside of the castle's walls. The sounds of bodies hitting the ground behind her signaled that her men had followed suit as they charged into the fray.

The battle, if it could even be called one, was as bloody and as personal as could be. The church forces advanced like a crashing wave, battering the castle's defenders again and again until one by one they eventually fell. The defending forces did not have the advantage of being able to retreat to heal or rest, nor did they have the advantage of a full army. Only a fraction of Lucrezia's main army had stayed behind, the others accompanying those who had already evacuated to ensure their safety. Their purpose not to win the battle, but to delay the churches forces for long enough for the queen to accomplish her plan. That was the purpose of Juniper's squad, cause enough damage to the attacking forces to delay them through hit and run tactics. "Advance on the left flank, prioritize their ranged units!" She lead her group as they charged out from the defender's position catching the attacking group by surprise. With a thrust of her spear a soldier fell, a shocked expression on his face as she spun and planted her elbow in his face, using the motion to free her spear from his body.

The enemy soldiers reacted well on their part, scrambling to defend themselves as her troops felled upon them. Steel clashed as her forces exchanged blows, Juniper herself barking orders as she dodged a sword thrust by leaning her head slightly to the right, "Do not let them recover, keep fighting!" She grabbed the wrist of the soldier that had attacked her and twisted it painfully as she slammed her back into his chest while turning to use him as a human shield against another soldier. The sight of his comrade made him twist his sword at the last second to avoid killing his own, the soldier falling off balance at the sudden change. Pushing her shield into his fellow soldier she turned and slashed her spear in a wide arc, slashing the first soldiers throat before she fell upon the second soldier who was now dealing with the weight of his now dead friend. His scream came out garbled as his throat was crushed under Juniper's knee as she rolled forward and came to a crouch before throwing her spear right through the chest of an archer. As reinforcements for the enemy approached Juniper stood and began to run back towards the defenders position, "Fall back to the main forces!" Her troops followed her as they ducked behind the defenders shields.

They repeated this tactic a few more times until the enemy started to anticipate it. They became more cautious in their charges, having archers at the ready if anyone broke from behind the defensive line. Juniper had hoped that with the mass confusion of the battle that they would not have time to react, a fools dream but one she had hoped would remain. The attacking forces had started to force the defensive line back further and further towards the castle's interior. If this kept up then they would certainly launch a full out assault on the line and with the vast difference in numbers holding it would be impossible. Before she could decide on the next course of action she felt a mental pull, the sign to retreat to the throne room. She suddenly went straight, gasped and called out "Men it is time to go. Any man that you can save during the retreat is another man who will live to see another day." The men around her nodded their heads as they began to support the defenders retreat while Juniper headed inside of the castle to the throne room.

She sprinted as fast as her legs could take her, taking three stairs with every step as her heart hammered in her chest. What she wouldn't give for some magic so that she could have just flown up to the room but with her total lack of knowledge of magic it probably wouldn't do her much good. "Almost there, almost there!" She had just climbed the final step and rounded the corner to the throne room when there was a bright flash and suddenly Juniper was suspended high in the air alongside Lucrezia and the other generals. Words were lost on her as the size of the crater that they were hovering over dawned on her. The castle was gone, the still glowing crater was all that remained to signify that anything was ever there. When the queen spoke it was a question, if there were any who weren't willing to go along with her. The reaction was unanimous, with Juniper adding her own opinion "My queen I have pledged my allegiance to you in this life and any other. I am pretty sure a new world still falls under that." Lucrezia shook her head but her tone made it clear that she was far from disappointed. As they hurtled down into the crater towards the portal Juniper knew that she had no regrets following her queen, wherever it may take her.

Juniper Arc
Sol - Unknown

Juniper awoke to the feeling of softly rocking back and forth as if she was a child being held by her mother. Or at least that's what she told mothers did, hers kind of just punted you if you cried about being scared of the dark. Either way it was definitely a sign that she was moving, possibly on a ship. Her eyes were the first sense that she regained, however it was practically useless in the darkness that enveloped her. What this Sol that Lucrezia was speaking of? Her other senses soon followed, first the feeling of the cold ground. It didn't feel like wood, earth or even stone but instead felt cool like the metal of a sword. "Strange, why would someone waste metal on the ground?" Juniper paused as she looked around for the source of the shrill voice. "Eh?" she touched a hand to her throat and hummed before yelping and scrambling to her feet. Her voice was so high! It was almost as if it was changed when she had traveled through the portal. "Wait, hold on." She felt around herself and to her dismay her clothes had also changed. Her pants were too large now and her shirt and vest hung low. Stumbling around she felt her hands grip her belt and tightened it as much as she could until her pants weren't at risk of falling off of her. Right now she wanted to know where she was and where her queen and the others were.

Suddenly a bright flash of light like a miniature sun flashed and caused Juniper to shield her eyes from the pain. When she opened them a man wearing strange clothing was staring at her holding an object that radiated light. Acting on instinct she lunged towards the man, but was both shocked and startled when she tripped over her own two feet and ended up sprawled on the floor. Her body felt different, so much lighter and smaller it was like she was a child again. Looking down at her hands she panicked when they appeared to be smaller and more delicate than they were. They didn't even seem big enough to wield a sword let alone her favored spear. "Umm excuse me miss, are you alright?" He wore what seemed to be wearing some sort of regal uniform with strange trinkets adorning its chest and a white hat with another trinket on it, "I heard a loud bang and came to see what had happened." Juniper glared at the man as she got to her feet and began to back up until her back hit a wall. She muttered a quick curse before demanding "Who are you and where am I? Speak before I grow impatient."

The man seemed confused by the question as he shined the device at Juniper causing her to cover her eyes once again. How did these inhabitants control the power of the sun? "My name is John and right now we're about a few hours away from the docks. How did you get in here?" The man known as John shined the light around her before settling on her again. He had mentioned being close to a dock, did that mean they were close to a port? If so she might be able to gather information to where Lucrezias whereabouts were. "I came here with my queen through a portal. You will take me to the nearest port or else I shall take myself." Despite how threatening she tried to make it sound she had little confidence that she could even take his ship if she wanted to. She was smaller than normal and she definitely felt weaker too, another side effect of the travel possibly, and she had no idea the size of this man's ship. The man seemed confused by her ultimatum as he scratched his head. "Well I guess I can give you a ride into port, but you really do need to tell me how you got inside of my ship."

It was an awkward ride to port on the mans ship, with Juniper glaring daggers into his back the entire way back. To her shock it seemed the entire ship was constructed out of some sort of metal. Miraculously it somehow seemed to stay afloat and even move itself without sails. When she asked John what magic allowed the ship to move he gave her a look as if she had asked him if he was alive. She assumed that he was a conjuror or something similar and used a conjured creature to move the ship. Once they had arrived at the pier Juniper made no effort to stay with the man despite his protests. She jumped from his ship and ignored the people she rushed past and their curses. Her only goal for now was finding out where the others were no matter what would happen and nothing would stop her

Juniper Arc
Apartment 2347 , Wallace Street

It was with a heavy heart and a slow rise that Juniper crawled out from underneath her blanket on the floor and slammed her fist down onto her alarm clock. Well slammed was a bit of an overstatement more of a light slap to hit it so it would stop ringing. The little hand was stopped at the painted on 6 as she knocked the device away. It was a strange thing made of metal with two bells extending off of the top of it. Her neighbor had explained how it worked after her first attempt was commanding it and shouting any incantations that she knew at it. She had found it on the floor at the back of the building by a 'dumpster', a place where people discarded refuse and unwanted items. Standing up she stretches her back out while walking towards the wash room of her apartment. She did not own a bed and was thus forced to sleep on the wood floor. "Curse this land-lord, forcing me to provide my own bedding." For the first few days Juniper had searched for her companions non-stop, hoping to find at least one of them. Unfortunately she had no luck and with the nights getting colder and colder she needed a place to stay. Her first choice was to find a local tavern, but to her shock they said that they did not rent rooms and that she looked too young to be in there. Too young to enter a tavern? This land had the strangest rituals to follow. This had lead her to her current residence, and her current situation.

The ring that Lucrezia had given her was a tremendous help. The 'land-lord' had refused to rent out one of his rooms to her without something called an 'ID', with the rings powers she managed to convince him to rent to her under the promise that she'd show her 'ID' to him later. Unbeknownst to Juniper the process of getting an ID must have been some form of cruel torture. She was forced to wait in a line for 4 hours only to be told to go to a different line. Once she waited 2 hours in that line she had to sign papers the size of a tome. And yet there was still more, more waiting, more papers, more lines and more dirty looks from those women behind the counters. If it wasn't for her reduced size and strength she would have destroyed them. After that was finished she knew that she would have to find a job in order to support herself. The lack of knowledge of this world had made it extremely difficult to find anyone who was willing to hire her. She was at the end of her rope when she finally came across what seemed like a courier service of some kind. They had apparently just lost an employee and needed a new one fast and luckily for Juniper all they cared about was if she could ride a contraption called a bicycle. Desperately needing the job she lied to her employer about her experience and she got the job.

Speaking of which, Juniper needed to get going. Quickly slipping into her work uniform she packed a spare change of clothing that she had received from one of her neighbors. His neighbor known as Mary had a daughter around Junipers age in this world who had clothing that she did not want anymore. She felt strange wearing clothing with such frills but in the end it had saved her a lot of money. Rushing down to the ground level she exited the apartment complex and got onto her bicycle that her employer had provided. For the first week after she was hired it had caused her much grief, having never actually ridden a bike she had to learn fast in order to keep her job. It had been....difficult understanding the rules surrounding this transport. Sometimes she would have free reign of the large path in the middle but other times those strange metal chariots would fly past her like an arrow and make a frighteningly loud noise. Such as the case now as Juniper just barely avoided being flattened by one of them, "A curse upon you and your kind!" Eventually she made it to work no worse for wear.

Her boss had given her the locations of her delivery on something called a 'GPS', a magical artifact that told you how to get to your destination and even talked to you. She had just finished her last delivery and was walking alongside of her bike on the sidewalk in her casual clothes. Juniper was beginning to feel thirsty, cursing herself for forgetting to stock up on drinks at her apartment. She needed to find a place to get a drink other than a tavern, known as bars in this world, and stopped a passer by to ask for his assistance. "Oh yeah there's this little cafe tucked in between some buildings a while south in a place called Camden Town. If you get lost ask the locals, they should know for sure." She thanked the man for his assistance, ignoring his shocked expression as she kissed him on his cheek as she set off. It took about half an hour for her to reach the area the man had talked about, and another ten to find the place itself. It was small, not standing out much but perhaps that had it's charm as well. She leaned her bike against the side of the building and walked in, squinting at the sudden difference of light.

She took a seat at one of the tables and looked around. Her eyes settled on a woman with long black hair who seemed to be one of the servers. "Server, I require a drink. Bring me a.." she squinted to read one of the many drink names displayed on a board above her head before deciding "Whatever this 'Cappuccino' is"

She had gone quiet after that smile fading, especially after she heard vaccination. At first she thought it was some sort of insult, or punishment, but it turns out it was nothing of that sort. She walked around to sit on the couch, watching her play with the dog Arryn brought in. She liked animals, but having realty with puppies once, she thought never again. "She seems cute. How do you want them to be named?" She asked, glancing at Arryn.

LISA SPARROW + HANNAH MILLER

MILLERS CAFE

Lisa nodded as she placed the book she was reading - "Beyond Good and Evil by F.Nietzsche" - carefully down on the counter, grabbed one of the smaller white cups from the cupboard and began busying herself over by the espresso machine; which was a confusing mismash of various leavers and dials. Thankfully, Lisa had taken to the rather complex machine quickly. Her past with potions and rituals had made memorizing the exact quantities and order of ingredients quite simple really.

The microwave had been another matter, but that was neither here nor there.

As she worked, Hannah was cheerfully humming as she prepared some pastry for use later that day. The TV was chattering in the background, and Lisa heard her colleague suddenly give what could only be described as a "Squee" sound.

"Oooh Kaysen is on TV!"

Lisa glanced over at the screen in question, to see a smartly suited young looking man being interviewed on a cozy looking red sofa - surrounded on all sides by cheerful looking woman in similar states of professional looking dress. The man said something, and they all laughed.

"Of course," He said, his face now growing a bit more serious. "I can't talk more about my current work - but it's vital we all stay vigilant. This country is in a delicate state after all. we must--"

Lisa couldn't hear the rest of what he was saying over the din of the Espresso maker.

"Ugh, he's so hot." Hannah sighed, as she lent over the counter to see the screen.

"He sounds like a politician."

"Hey, nobody's perfect."

Lisa clicked her tongue as she finished the Espresso, and gentle poured in the steamed milk in the shape of a leaf. (Hannah preferred doing little hearts) and then walked over to the redhead who had ordered and placed it gently in front of her - along with a napkin.

"Will that be all?"

"Would you like a Apple Pie? They're going cheap!" Hannah chipped in.

"They're going cheap because they're two days old."

Hannah chuckled coyly. "Yeah but yknow. Cheap apple pies." She smiled at the red headed customer. "Lisa - that's the grumpy one there - she made em'. They're still good! She put little bows on them - they're super cute!"

"There was left over pastry," Lisa replied, looking uncomfortable. "It would have gone to waste - a bow was all I could think of."

"She was really proud of them," Hannah whispered loudly to the redhead, which caused Lisa to tut loudly and retreat back behind the counter and grab her book.

"I'm so sorry for my friend, are you alright? Is there anything I can do to help?"

"I am fine, thank you. Some Neosporin and band aids can easily solve my injuries." Rai examined the black haired man in front of him. He also seemed very familiar, though Rai could not exactly recall where he had seen this face. Perhaps one of his customers, or one of the people that tipped him? Probably not. They would've recognized him if they met him in the past. Being 6 feet tall with red hair made a person quite memorable. "Your friend here should watch out when climbing trees in the future. If I wasn't here, she could've gotten very hurt..."

"Apologize? When that was clearly your fault?! No way! You're obviously not very smart, so I will forgive your stupidity just this once! Aren't I nice?"

Rai was seriously beginning to doubt this girl's sanity. What kept him from considering her as completely insane was the fact that she appeared quite young. Like a child that never learned to grow up. Or perhaps some sort of mental impairment. Whatever it was, it was confusing to say the least. "You were the one who..."

"Don't answer that, I already know. I'm the cutest, sweetest cat ever! Oh...Speaking of cats, maybe a cat would help me get the baby birds...I can't quite reach the nest, and the branches are too thin to support my - familiar? You know me?"

The red headed man's patience was being tested. This sort of pure annoyance would not have bothered him in the past, but perhaps that was because he could easily end the lives of who every bothered him on a whim. And did she say cat? That sounded familiar, somehow, but who? WHO? Suddenly, the girl leaned in an sniffed him. She was definitely insane. And rude. Who in their right mind would start sniffing others to find out who they were? "I would appreciate it if you respected my personal..."

"I'm not sure...Maybe you know me, maybe you don't. It doesn't matter anyway, it's difficult to smell- Tannur! This stupid man distracted me from climbing with his bright hair! And I couldn't catch those birds..."

The way she kept on cutting Rai off was annoying him, but the name she brought up was one he hadn't heard in a while. Tannur. The half-elf rogue that served under Lisa...no, Lucrezia. Different personas. Still, it could just be a coincidence... Suddenly, it hit Rai. The girl that fell on top of him was SIlver! It lined up: an immature albino girl that constantly acted like an animals. Other than the lack of animal traits, save the borderline insane behavior, Silver looked exactly the same. Rai really had been out of touch with his Atherian side after the time on Earth. But this is good! He was able to find his allies. However, it would be better to be careful. There was no guarantee that they were the same Tannur and Silver he knew prior to entering the portal. He would have to talk it over with Lucrezia. "Tannur? Then you must be Silver. It's good to see the two of you again. You have anywhere where we can talk more privately? There's always the risk of Church of Light spies, even here."

Late Morning
Elena was happy to hear that Arryn liked her friend, agreeing on her being "spunky". Sophia was definitely different and there probably weren't as many confident and overbearing females like her in Aether. However, as funny and loving her friend was, she was quick when it came to picking up tiny details. Meeting Arryn, Ana, or even Daniel more than a few times would spark suspicion for her even if they were pulling off the foreigner act fairly well. It was probably the main reason she ushered the woman away. That and she kind of missed the curly-haired man. Unlike Ana who lived with her and Daniel who only worked based on appointments, it was difficult to catch Arryn when he wasn't working.

"Yeah, well..." Elena began as she was already digging through the closet for some shoes. Deciding on some slightly worn brown Chukkas, she slipped them on with ease and tapped her toes against the floor to check their fit. Still good, she thought with a small smile. Elena was grandfathered into wealth after her mom's success, meaning people would assume everything she owned was nice. Truthfully, the only thing being paid for by her mother was the apartment's down payment and her tuition. Since her mother believed Elena was attending school full-time, however, the extra tuition money was going towards rent and other necessities. It made her feel a bit guilty, but what else could she do?

“I’ll be seeing her tonight at the club I’m singing at. We usually get drinks before and after, and then I stay at her place until morning.” Although that wasn’t the case over the last month. Elena had been so busy helping Arryn, Ana, and Daniel adjust that she’d even skipped her performances to make sure they were doing okay. It was a bit much, but she still felt like a mother duck. Thankfully, the three of them were getting used to Earth and its oddities. She’d even taught them how to use a mobile phone, which was a wonderful way for her to keep track of how Arryn and Daniel were doing at their new place.

The usual calm yet easy-going demeanor of hers seemed to falter a bit at Arryn’s apology, but Elena quickly recovered herself as if nothing had changed. “But I’d like to go.” Elena commented, her eyes almost pleading the man. If she were to say she missed the curly-haired man out loud, she would’ve sounded daft. She thought it was pretty normal, however. Arryn was hard to catch with his line of work. Elena had probably had dinner and lunch with both Ana and Daniel twice as much as she had seen the brunette.

The door to her home suddenly opened and Elena felt of wave of shock envelope her body. She let out a quiet squeak before sighing when she realized who had just entered. Daniel was standing gingerly by the doorway, a look of befuddlement on his face as he gave everyone a glance over. “Daniel!” Elena exclaimed exasperated. “You scared the livi- oh, I didn’t close the door all the way again, didn’t I?” That was a recurring problem as of late. With the three normally behind her as she travelled, she didn’t bother shutting the door since one of them usually did. The bad habit just kind of followed her after the men moved out. Daniel was usually the one that caught her in the act whenever he visited, like the current situation.

Arryn Bennett
Elena's home -> Road to the Pet Shop

Arryn couldn't help but feel a bit bad he'd intruded on Rose's plans with her friend, especially for something as trivial as help with a wayward puppy. She didn't seem too upset about it herself, though, and she seemed genuinely eager to help him as well as the dog. "Thanks, Rose," he said simply when she was all ready to go. When Ana asked about a name for the pup, he repeated what he told Rose a few moments earlier, before Sophia interrupted. "Like I said, I haven't thought about a name for him. I didn't want to get too attached in case we end up having to give him away to someone who can take better care of him." Again, at the mention of giving it away, the pup first gave a sad wimper and then he resumed his playful assault on Arryn's pant sleeve with a low, mock growl. Apparently he thought he was a tough guy. The three were just about ready to head out when Daniel popped in and asked what was going on. Recognizing the werewolf from last night, the golden left Arryn and jumped excitedly at him in greeting, hoping for a little bit of love. "Hey Daniel," said Arryn casually. "Remember him from last night? You said taking care of him would be my responsibility, so I just came to ask Rose where I ought to take the little fella to get him what he needs. Looks like we're about to embark on a quest of sorts. Just like old times, eh? Hopefully without any giant monsters or shadowspawn armies to get in our way this time."

Once all the small talk was through and everyone was ready, the group headed out. Elena was guiding them to a pet shop she knew of, someplace she claimed they would be able to find everything they needed all in one place. Not only could they buy all the supplies there the dog would need, there was both a vet and a groomer on the premises at all times. She claimed they ought to be able to get the necessary shots there at relatively low cost. It evidently wasn't too far from where they were either. It was a beautiful day, so they all decided to walk instead of taking a bus or a taxi. Arryn liked to walk as much as anyone else, but he couldn't help but be a bit disappointed he wouldn't get to demonstrate for the others how much better he'd gotten about being inside of vehicles. The first time they'd all taken a bus together, Arryn had been an anxious mess the whole time, certain the gigantic, fast-moving, self-propelling vehicle was going to crash and kill everyone in it. Now, weeks later, he was much more used to taking the bus since he had to take one to work. He could easily maintain his usual stoic expression and calm composure, an adjustment that he was secretly a bit proud of himself for finally making. It was just as well for the sake of the pup, though, that they weren't driving to the store. The whole time they walked, the little guy was so excited by everything and everyone they passed, Arryn couldn't imagine he'd have had as much fun just sitting on a bus. His excitement was a little contagious; even Arryn couldn't help but smile at its simple, undisguised happiness with everything around it.

"You know," Arryn said to Rose to make conversation on the way to the store, "I've heard you speak before of your moonlighting as a bard in a tavern sometimes, but I haven't yet had the chance to see it for myself. I'm off this weekend, so I've got some free time. Would you mind if I came tonight to see your performance and experience what taverns are like in this country? I know Ana works in a place like that, but I don't know if Daniel has enjoyed any taverns yet either. Maybe we could all stop by for a while?"

Roland Fairchild
Jim's Tattoo Parlour

Roland stood outside the small establishment, breathing a bit heavily from his sprint from the library to there. It was a tiny place compared to most of the buildings that surrounded it. The front window was covered in sample designs to show off some of the place's works. In addition to the banner of Magruhdul, he noticed there was an odd abundance of nature-related imagery, from animals, to vine patterns, to thorny roses and colorful flowers. They were all impeccably drawn, though, even moreso than the Magruhdul hammer and anvil. Roland probably could have drawn the banner better, but did not think he could have done much better at the animals and plants and flowers himself. Written in huge, stylized letters appropriate to the artistic craft the parlour specialized in, the name of the place was emblazoned both above all the designs on the front window and over the front entrance on an overhanging red awning: Jim's Tattoo Parlour. Simple as names went, but effective, Roland supposed. Before going in, he took a deep breath to mentally prepare himself for whatever he was going to find. He eased off his backpack and pulled out two items. The first was his steel pipe. If he found Lucrezia in there, he wouldn't hesitate to do what needed to be done. If he found one of her generals in there, he doubted that they'd recognize him as he was, but he would be prepared to defend himself in case they did. The other item he pulled out was his drawing notebook. He turned to the page that had the picture he'd done a while ago now. It was a perfect representation of the design he wanted for his tattoo. It showed his own arms, to very accurate scale, from three different angles each. On each arm, the dragon tattoo he came for coiled proudly from the forearms to the backs of his hands. The eyes were so realistic and lifelike, the dragons appeared almost sentient, glaring into the soul of whomever decided to glance at them. Getting the coloring right had been difficult. On Aether, the dragon brands were such a brilliant red they almost appeared golden if viewed in the right light. Reproducing that with colored pencils had not been easy, but he'd managed to get the idea across at least. With steel pipe and notebook in hand, he stepped into the parlour.

The interior was as simple and straightforward as Roland had expected given the building's relatively small exterior. The lighting was a bit dim and the floor was patterned with a black and white checkerboard design. The front area was just big enough for a desk with a computer and cash register. To the side, there was a somewhat more open area with a few chairs for patrons to sit in. There were larger, rotating black chairs with elaborate armrests and handles as well, in which Roland surmised people would sit while they were inked. The small table near the big black chairs was filled with the tools of the tattooing trade: a wide array of machines tipped with sharp needles of varying sizes, designed to push ink into a person's skin. The machines were accompanied by a large assortment of colored inks of every hue imaginable. If he didn't know where he was, Roland would have thought the table held the torture tools of an interrogator rather than the implements of an artist. There was currently only one person in the parlour, a man behind the front desk in a black leather riding jacket with more pockets than Roland could count. He must be Jim. He had a sour look on his face and he was grumbling to himself about how "that idiot girl is late AGAIN. Don't know why I keep her around, all she does is cost me money I don't have..."

Roland didn't think his expression could get any darker, but when Jim noticed him standing there, it somehow found a way. His eyes burned through the red-headed prince with angry recognition as his bald head began to turn a bright red to match his mood. If steam had started to burst out of his ears, Roland would not have been surprised. Funny, he thought, with that heavyset stature, his bald head, and that red coloring, the man's face almost looks kind of like a...a...

"Tomato!" Roland shouted out loud, the recognition hitting him over the back of the head like a ton of bricks. This was the tomato-faced man whose car Roland had tried to take for a joy ride when he and Marcus first came to Earth. He admired Roland's jacket in the park only to get into a fist fight with him a few minutes later because he thought the prince was stealing his vehicle. In recompense, he'd left his wife with a bronze token from...from the dwarven settlement of Gulorum, Roland thought with glum realization. The token had the hammer and anvil banner of Magruhdul on the back of it. The design on the front window wasn't from someone out of Aether; it was from the coin Roland had given Jim's wife. All his excitement at the possibility of finally finding his companions or his target evaporated in the blink of an eye. What a shame.

"What the HELL are you doing here?" Jim asked in a tight voice. "I don't want no trouble, you hear? You best get out of here before I call the police. NOW!"

Abruptly, Roland realized how this must all appear to the middle-aged man. He was someone who'd apparently tried to steal his car, whose friend had punched him square in the nose, and now he was standing in his place of work brandishing a thick steel pipe as if ready to beat someone's skull in with it (which he was, just not Jim's skull). Roland gave a shaky laugh as he guiltily put the pipe back in his backpack.

"Now, now, sir, I haven't come to start anything, I promise. The pipe was for...someone else. Another bad misunderstanding between us. I actually just came to get a tattoo. See?" He approached slowly with his hands visible and placed his notebook with the tattoo drawings on the desk in front of the man. Jim didn't even look at it.

"You actually expect me to believe that, you little shit? Get out. Get your tattoo somewhere else. Plenty of parlours in London and I don't need business like yours."

"I would have gone somewhere else, but I noticed the image on your front window. I thought I and my friends were the only ones who would know about that design, so I came here to see if they were here in addition to getting the tattoo. I forgot that I handed that coin with the same design on it to your wife on that day about a month ago. Funny coincidence, isn't it? Look, I feel terrible about how we met. Can't we start over?"

"No! I'm not stupid, kid. Get out." He picked up the notebook in front of him and made a move as if he were going to fling it at Roland. "And take your shitty drawing with--" When his eye caught the sketch it displayed, Jim's body froze in the middle of the motion. "--with...you..." Jim's voice trailed off absently and with appreciably less venom in it as he examined Roland's picture more closely. He started flipping through the book to the other drawings. They were of all kinds of things, from places Roland remembered from Aether, scenes he'd seen in London, or people he randomly felt like sketching during his explorations. One was a peaceful drawing of a wide open field of soft green grass with a single tree in the center, a young woman standing underneath its branches with her back to the viewer. All the drawings were incredibly detailed, skillfully done in Roland's own hand; he'd always had a secret talent for drawing pictures, though he rarely got to indulge it during the war on Aether except when he was drawing maps.

Roland stood awkwardly with his hand out, waiting for the man to hand his notebook back. After about a minute of silence, instead of throwing it as he'd originally intended, Jim flipped back to the tattoo designs and asked, "Who drew this?"

"I did."

"Bullshit."

"Not at all."

Jim looked Roland over again with a careful, evaluating eye, as if truly seeing him for the first time.

"...Alright," Jim said reluctantly. "I'll do your tattoos. But you're paying an extra £20 on top of the cost of the tat for breaking my nose. It still hurts whenever I sneeze. You do that and I'll call us square."

"Done." Roland said without hesitation. He winced internally at the additional cost, though. He intended to use that extra cash for a quick lunch and bus and taxi fare while looking for work. But he felt he owed this man at least as much as he asked for considering the trouble he'd caused him when they met.

Jim looked at the front door again and gave another grumble. "Nearly 30 minutes late now and no one to mind the front desk while I work. I'm going to fire that irresponsible brat one of these days, I swear..." Jim shook his head as if to put whomever he'd been thinking about out of his head. A wayward apprentice, Roland guessed? He felt sorry for whoever it was when she finally did show up. Jim did not look happy with her at all.

"Well, let's get to it then. This should take about three hours." He walked over to the table with the tools and gestured for Roland to sit in the big black swivel chair. He placed Roland's sketch beside him where he could easily see it while he worked. "Hope you aren't squeamish, kid. This is going to hurt." Roland sat and hoped that the small, satisfied smile on Jim's face when he mentioned causing him pain was only in his imagination.

Juniper Arc
Millers Cafe

Juniper waited as the black haired woman set the book that she was reading down and move to a mass of levers and turnable knobs. The machine hissed as she worked the machine expertly, or very poorly for all that she knew. A gasp turned her attention from the black haired woman as she tensed up, expecting the worst as she reached for her weapon only to mentally check herself at the last second. This wasn't her world, people wouldn't just attack her for no reason. It turned out that the other black haired woman had gasped at the TV where a man was surrounded by attractive women, all of them laughing at something that he had just said. Juniper simply rolled her eyes, the man reminded her of some of the nobles that she had the displeasure of meeting in her life. They talk about things such as honor and strength yet hide themselves behind their walls, only leaving their safety when they have enough men to outnumber a small army.

"People like him are all talk. My Qu- I mean my former boss could best him in many different ways." She had to remind herself to stop referring to her queen as her queen in this world. She learned that it would only earn her confused looks and an offer to the hospital, one that she was sure wouldn't end well with some of them referring to the place as the loonie bin. The first black haired woman had set her drink in front of her, a brown liquid with a white leaf made of some sort of cream on top of it. Juniper nodded her head in thanks before taking the cup in both of her hands and taking a sip. This proved to be a mistake as the liquid instantly burned her tongue and roof of her mouth causing her to loudly place the cup back down onto the table and cover her mouth. Her eyes watered as she let out a small whine, her mouth feeling like she had tried to drink fire. "How can anyone drink something like this? It's bitter and burns like an inferno!"

Focusing on blocking out the searing pain in her mouth Juniper was able to catch the end of the two women's conversations and learned that the one who had served her was Lisa. The suggestion of an apple pie had her realizing how hungry she was, her stomach letting out an embarrassing grumble as she began to blush. It was bad enough that she probably looked like an idiot for drinking the fire-drink and causing a scene and now her own body was betraying her. Juniper had a weakness for apple pies, one of the few things that she enjoyed during her childhood, and the fact that they were cheap was even better. "I'd like to have one of those pies please," her tongue throbbed and she quickly added "and some ice water, fast." She glared at her cappuccino and debated smashing it for revenge, but reconsidered it to be polite to the owner. Also because she had payed for it, and damn it she couldn't afford to waste her money like that. She was still trying to save up for a simple mattress.

"Oh, so I'm more than just familar, you know me! Why didn't ya say so in the first place?!"

She's an actual idiot.

She frowned, tapping her chin. "I don't think I know you, though. And the church of light are idiots. So, they wouldn't have been able to find us! Unless you're from the church of light? Uhh..." She's officially confused herself with this now.

"Um, I think there's somewhere I should be." She said seriously. "But maybe we can meet later? Or once I've figured out where I'm supposed to be..."

She's late for work. This child is such a loser.

"I assure you, I'm not Church of Light. I'll be here till 6, so feel free to come back anytime after you're done. If you can't..." Rai took out a napkin left over from the lunch Maxwell bought for him and jotted down his apartment's telephone number. He handed the napkin to Tannur, knowing that he would be far more responsible, "Call me whenever you can."

"And, Tannur, please take care of Silver, she's a fool and is literally an overgrown child." Rai limped over to a bench. This stupid human body and it's response to pain. This just reminds him how annoying being a human was. Learning about how human society functions was a great way to spend his time, but all the annoying things that came with it, such as pain, the need to produce excrement, the need to eat, the need to urinate, and the need to sleep.

Rai plopped down onto a wooden bench and opened his bag to pull out his Taiko drums. They were now a set of red and black "bongo" drums nailed together. It wasn't as destructive or impressive as it's old form, but it did have the amazing ability to force make give him money. He began to play a sound as he waited for Silver and Tannur to come back, whatever time it might be.

Early Afternoon
They could've taken the bus, the taxi, or even an Uber, but the walking distance from Elena's home to the pet store was a laughable one. If they had taken public transportation, it would've only been a waste of time and money, not that Elena would complain about wasting some time. Her morning had already gone by achingly slow, so a thirty minute bus ride with one too many stops wouldn't have made a dent in her day.

"Hm?" Elena said as she turned to Arryn, who was walking next to her with the puppy looking around in awe. The four of them had unknowingly broken off into pairs with her and Arryn up front and Daniel and Ana following suit. She smiled at the two around her, but her attention was on her walking partner and what he had to say. The first part was kind of a blurb, but that didn't really matter. The man's question was enough for her to piece two and two together. "Of course, you can!" The woman replied happily, a light laugh escaping her lips. If she were to really think about it, none of them actually heard her sing or watched her perform on a stage. The most Ana ever heard was lazy vocals during one of Elena's many long showers. She'd never really listened to Elena when she actually sang.

"It'll be a different place tonight, so I don't know how similar it will be to Ana's workplace." Elena continued as they were nearing the store. "The first floor has a bar and table settings for people to eat, but the rooftop has a stage and a very nice set up for underground performers." Her face beamed as she spoke, clearly joyed with describing her favorite place to perform. It was a rather small place, but it attracted a large crowd. People even stood on the ground outside just to hear the musicians play on the roof. Sometimes celebrities made surprise visits as well. She'd never been lucky enough to meet one though.

After a good twenty or so minutes, the four of them finally arrive to the pet store. A big green sign with the words 'Pets at Home' was plastered on the front, staring out into the open like an oak tree. There was a dog mascot dancing outside and shaking some onlooker's hands, even offering hugs to children that wandered up. As they walked passed the figure, he held his arms out for Elena to hug but she quickly refused out of embarrassment. That didn't stop the mascot from bringing her into a bear hug, however. Even the coldest person wouldn't have been able to hide a smile, and the blonde woman let out a chuckle.

When they entered the building, cool hair hit her like a breeze from a snowy mountain. It was a wonderful feeling after walking in the heat for a while, and she could tell the others felt the same. The puppy also seemed to appreciate the air conditioning as it let out a loud, but tiny howl. Smiling, the woman directed Arryn towards the clinic area and ushered the other two to look around and enjoy. "Go explore. It's just a pet store, but I'm sure you'll see some surprising things," she told Ana and Daniel. Arryn, on the other hand, was soon to be overwhelmed with the puppy in one arm and some papers in the other. "You just need to fill those out and then we wait to be called."

LISA SPARROW + HANNAH MILLER

MILLERS CAFE

Hannah grinned and nodded as she vanished into the door behind the bar to fetch one of the pies, leaving Juniper and Lisa alone in the cafe. The only sound was the quiet warbling from the TV, as a commercial break started playing. Lisa had practically vanished herself - albeit behind her book - the cover forming a barrier between herself and the customer, hiding her face. She flicked through several more pages as she had seemingly chosen to simply ignore the customer, now that her order had been fulfilled. Out of shyness or indifference, it was rather hard to say. Perhaps a little of both?

A few moments later, Hannah reappeared with a plate in one hand and a glass in the other. She promptly popped it down in front of Juniper. On the plate was a slice of pie, with a gentle steam rising off of it, filling the air with the smell of apple and cinnamon; and as promised the was a rather cute bow of pastry on top of the crust. The glass of ice, cold water shimmered in the warm lights of the cafe.

"Here ya go! I hope you enjoy it!" She said brightly, then she frowned at the uncomfortable expression on the customer's face.
"uh you okay? Did ya burn your tongue or something?"

Lisa suddenly peered over the rim of her book with quiet interest.

Juniper Arc
Millers Cafe

The unnamed server nodded and went into a door behind the long table leaving Juniper and Lucy alone. She had gone back to reading her book, seemingly disinterested in any conversation with her. The TV was advertising some sort of product that was apparently guaranteed to improve your mood or your money back. Having nothing better to do Juniper looked down at her cappuccino and scowled before tentatively picking it up again. The white cup that it was in was still warm, however steam had stopped coming off of it meaning that it must have cooled at least a little. She slowly raised the cup to her lips and took a small sip before deepening her scowl. It hadn't burned her mouth like the last time but it was still just as bitter and still caused her burn to throb painfully.

The server reappeared a short while later with a slice of pie on a plate that smelt heavenly and the glass of water that she asked for. As soon as she set the glass down Juniper grabbed it and took a long sip, the cold water washing over her burns like a soothing balm. She set the glass down and sighed as her server asked her if everything was alright. Not wanting to sound rude she gave her a smile and answered "It's alright, I didn't realize how hot my drink would be and burned my mouth." She waved her hand in front of her face to show that she was fine and then turned to her pie.

Just like she said there was a cute little bow on top of the crust as steam slowly came off of it. Deciding that it wouldn't have been good to burn her mouth again she decided to wait a bit for it to cool and instead try to talk to her server. "If you don't mind me asking do you know of any jobs that need to be done around the area? I'm a bit short on money and I'm looking to make some more outside of my job. Anything would be a great help" Juniper paused as she realized that she hadn't introduced herself yet. "My name is June by the way, just realized that I never got yours."

Arryn Bennett
Pets at Home

For once, Arryn was glad that Rose had weeks ago talked him out of carrying the sledgehammer that was once Mah'alleinir with him everywhere he went at his belt. She had the same reasoning that she had for not talking about his origins: walking around with a sledgehammer like that made him look kind of weird and drew attention to him that he wouldn't want. So, when he was not going to work, he tried to leave it at home. Most times, he felt very uncomfortable without it, like a man deep in enemy territory with no way to protect himself; but it wasn't as though there were enemy mages waiting to hurl fireballs at him hiding around the corner, so it wasn't like he really needed it on an every day basis anyway. He was slowly becoming accustomed to living a life of peace without a weapon constantly within reach in case of an enemy ambush.

He was glad that he didn't have it today especially, however, because if he'd had it, he would've been very tempted to yield to his sudden, sharp, desperate pang of fear and take it upside the head of a man in a dog suit who thought it was appropriate to wrap him in a bear hug outside the pet shop. The big brown suit reminded him of a werewolf in full shift or a gigantic orc from back home, enemy combatants on the field of battle. His mind knew he was no longer at war, that this was just a man in a costume, but that didn't stop the onslaught of flashbacks. Suddenly he was back in time, fleeing for his life after Hogan's death during the sacking of Alcamoth; fighting to protect Roland on the bloodsoaked fields of Enderach Plains during the brutal battle on the way to Merluminal Forest; finally, he was once again pushing forward, forcing his way through endless enemy ranks on the long campaign to reach Blackrock, the stench of blood in his nose and the sound of screams in his ears, six weeks of horrific fighting for every inch of land they gained to finally reach and defeat the mad queen. His muscles tensed at the suited fellow's contact, his body primed for fight or flight. He reached unconsciously for the hammer at his side that his brain knew was not there. It took every ounce of willpower in him not to knock the fellow to the floor and jump on top of him to beat his face in with his fists. The suited man must have felt Arryn's sudden tension, because he retreated fairly quickly. Elena had already gone ahead to the front doors, so he wasn't sure she noticed the exchange, but when Daniel caught up to him and saw how tense his body was, how much sweat was pouring down his face, how his breathing was heavier and his pupils had become pinpricks while he was lost in memories of battles past, the old soldier must have known what was going through Arryn's mind. He put a gentle hand on his shoulder. "Easy, lad," he said soothingly. "You aren't there anymore. No more battles to fight. You're safe here. You're safe. Calm yourself. Deep breaths, now. Relax." When the man in the dog suit tried to hug Daniel too, the former werewolf did nothing but to give him one sharp, reproachful look and that was enough to make the poor guy stop and retreat back to his endless dancing. At some point, the puppy had felt his tension as well and had started standing on his hind legs and resting his front paws on Arryn's leg, a gesture to let the former blacksmith know he wanted to be picked up. Arryn took a deep breath to center himself, relaxed the white-knuckled grip he had on the leash in his right hand, and took the golden in his arms. The pup licked his face comfortingly.

When he retained some semblance of control over his emotions, he turned to his tall companion and said "thanks. sometimes I remember some of the battles we were in back home and my body thinks there's a imminent danger even though most of me knows that isn't the case. Let's just go on, shall we?"

When they got inside, Daniel and Ana went off on their own to explore the store. Arryn followed Rose to the vet's. What followed was a long series of paperwork full of questions about the puppy to which Arryn did not know the answer. His date of birth? Date of his last checkup? History of any medical problems? Arryn had only found the little guy yesterday, so there was no way he could know any of this. Still, he answered every question to the best of his ability. Thankfully, this experience wasn't nearly so bad as the Registration Office, where the forms had seemed infinite and endless. He was done filling out paperwork after only a few sheets. Then they waited their turn in the little lobby with other pet owners looking for the same treatment for their creatures. One man actually had a pet monkey. The little golden, whom Arryn had released from his hold in order to fill out forms, was rather curious about the chimp; he sniffed curiously at the creature. In return, the monkey gave him a pat on the head with a smile and then started picking through the pup's hair and eating whatever debris he found in its coat. The monkey seemed older and well-trained that it was able to interact with the canine so gently. The pup enjoyed the chimp's gentle attentions quite thoroughly. The monkey's owner, a dark-haired mustachioed man, turned to Arryn and remarked how friendly their two animals were being. The way he spoke and the sparkle in the man's eye reminded him of a doting father looking after his child.

Eventually, Rose and Arryn finally took the pup in to see the vet. For all the paperwork they did, the woman was extremely quick and efficient in administering the vaccinations. Arryn was nervous when she approached with needles, but Elena assured him it was how things were supposed to happen. He gave up the pup reluctantly for the woman to do her job. When he got stuck with them, the pup yelped in pain and shot Arryn what he could have sworn was a look of betrayal. He looked away from him with guilty shame. This pup was just way too smart.

"If you think this is bad," said the vet, "wait until you get him fixed. Which you should do, by the way, though we don't do it here. I'd say have it done in the next month or two, but certainly before he gets too big. Wouldn't want a bunch of new puppies running around, would you?"

When they left, any betrayal the puppy had felt was apparently forgotten; he was back on the end of his leash, tugging at it in attempt to get a good sniff at everything the store had to offer. Arryn turned to Elena as they started looking around for Daniel and Ana. "What did she mean by getting him 'fixed?'" he asked her curiously.

Aemi Akiyama ❤️

Aemi was startled from the blast. She quickly stood up, bracing against the swirling winds, dust specks and small debris flying into her."Aemi, don't go! It could be dangerous!" A voice screamed from afar. Looking around, Aemi tried to find who it was from. It was definitely familiar, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. "Aemi! Come back!" A child's voice echoed through the dusty air. Aemi walked towards the two voices, fighting against the wind. Suddenly, the rock beneath Aemi's trembling feet gave way, and she collapsed into a pit. She kept falling down, and down, and even though she wanted to scream, nothing was coming out of her mouth. A bright red light flashed, and -

Aemi woke up in a cold sweat, sitting up quickly, also hitting the cramped ceiling of the small, gritty rental apartment. She fell back down, sighing (also rubbing the swelling bruise). That dream happened at least once a week, constantly. And it gave her bad memories of Aether, and how much she worried about everyone else. Forgetting about it quickly, she slowly got out of the bed and hopped over the dirty floor and water stains. While she obviously didn't enjoy the living conditions, it was much better than being roommates with that creepy guy who always scratched his... unmentionables. Shaking that thought from her head, she trudged over to the small rustic kitchen to make herself a small breakfast. Pulling out some store-bought frozen waffles, she popped them into the toaster. Waiting, she decided to go to the washroom to freshen up from that long, comfortable sleep.

------

After eating a mildy adequate breakfast, she walked out the door and down the steep staircase of the apartment's exterior. Aemi was off to work - as a photographer, which didn't earn much - but also worked as a part time delivery person. She held a large black duffel bag and another large basket, which had a small handkerchief covering the top. She quickly heaved the heavy bags as she walked down the busy street of London. Checking the time, she crossed the road, and turned a corner to Miller's Cafe, one of her stops. She pushed open the door with her free hand, and smiled at the manager, Hannah. In the basket was a bunch of baking ingredients, and other things Hannah needed for the store. "How are you today?" Asked Aemi, dropping off the basket. Aemi turned and smiled at the other girl, who she'd seen working there sometimes. There was another customer who Aemi didn't recognize, but greeted anyways.

Pets at Home

Ana had been left to wander the rather large store with Daniel. It seemed entirely dedicated to animals, and everything they required. Walking down a small lane made from two shelves, her eyes caught the large rack of brightly colored toys. She picked one up, curious to it's nature. She experimentally squeezed it, then glanced at Daniel, who was staring at it as it squeaked, then let out a hiss as it expanded to it's original form. Nothing bad happened, so she got an idea. She quickly tossed the toy at Daniel, who, while caught off guard, didn't move in time and it hit him square in the chest before he fumbled and finally caught it, his grip causing it to squeak again. She seemed to laugh at that, leaning forward slightly as Daniel went to put the toy back.

"Certainly interesting, this world always has something up it's sleeve." She said, raising back to full height and fixing her jacket. She caught a glimpse of someone moving nearby, and Daniel tapped her shoulder. Looking at him, he pointed to where she caught the person moving. She nodded and made her move forward, feet quietly moving one over the other as she went into the large opening between isles. He didn't seem familiar, but she was staring at the back of someone. Daniel pushed ahead of her, appearently recognizing the individual, and before she could grab him he was making his way to the worker. She had little choice but to follow, keeping an eye out for anything suspicious, as she usually did.

MILLERS CAFE

"Oh gosh, I'm always so bad with introductions - I'm Hannah. This is my place!" She grabbed June's hand and began to shake it vigorously with a gigantic smile on her face. "We hope you'll come here everyday! Seriously. Please come everyday."

"Hannah, you're scaring the poor creature." The dark haired girl observed, piecing blue eyes still peering over her book.

"Oh shush!" Hannah snorted, but she mercifully finally let go of the redhead's hand. "That's Lisa - Don't mind her being all grumpy, it's all an act; she's actually quite nice."

She lent over, and whispered in June's ear dramatically. "She complimented my hair last week."

"I said it looked sufficient." Lisa sighed as she went back to burying herself in her book.

"As for jobs..." Hannah continued, as if her co-worker hadn't said anything, "- gee I dunno. I mean, there's lots of listings for local stuff in the newspaper? I know a couple of the bars around here are hiring part-time..."

The door to the cafe gave a cheerful tingle as a pink haired girl carrying a basket full of baking ingredients walked in and placed it on the counter, smiling at them all as she did so. Lisa gave the girl a polite nod, as she carefully tucked her book under the counter.

"How are you today?"

"Oh Aemi!" Hannah greeted the girl with an equally large smile. "Your delivery is just in time! Lisa - oh! this is Aemi by the way, she's a total darling - could ya grab the payment from the back office? It's in the yellow envelope."

"Of course," Lisa acknowledged before vanishing around the corner.

"Say Aemi - don't suppose there's any part-time work at your work right now? June here is asking around for a job."

Tannur - Some park
Sighing as Silver glomped him again he turned to look at her as best he could, rather annoyingly whatever magic had changed them had left him not even half a head taller than his companion. "We've been over this Silver you can't go tearing apart random animals, people don't like seeing it and you can't go to work with blood on your hands or on your teeth." Thankfully that exact situation had been avoided so far due to sheer luck, he'd lost around two decades of his physical age and even with a normal human's lifespan it was far too soon for him to be going grey from the stress of dealing with her.

When the redhead identified them both and brought up the Church of Light Tannur quickly freed himself from Silver's grip and slipped a small knife into his hand, while his shortsword and crossbow were too large to conceal in his local clothing he had managed to sow hidden pockets inside them instead that held a few of his smaller "spare" knives, they weren't long enough for duelling with but they would more than enough to silence the stranger if necessary. "Who are you supposed to be then?" While this redhead could be one of their allies it was also possible that he was an enemy that had pursued them from Aether. Naturally Silver chose that moment to remember that she actually had somewhere to be. "Now? You choose now to realise that you've been slacking off again?" Taking the hastily scribbled note he continued to stare down the redhead.

"Oh, cool drums!" The albino remarked, seemingly unconcerned by Tannur pushing her away as she went over to the bench. "They're really nice, right...Tannur?"

And people say she's violent. Scarlet eyes widened at the sight of the knife, and the girl looked confused. "You say I shouldn't kill anything and yet you're pulling a knife on the boy with the nice drums! That's rude, ya know!"
Says the girl who stabs people for fun. Though, she dismissed it as not her problem as Tannur's words reminded her where exactly she was supposed to be. It's probably bad that the words 'slacking off' make her think of work.

She cursed - very loudly - then glared between the two males. "Tannur, don't stab him without me, red haired dude, don't be a church of light spy!!"

Considering them suitably warned, she ran off without even a goodbye. Fifteen minutes later (She saw a shiny piece of rubbish and had to investigate) she crashed through the tattoo parlour doors, out of breath from running.
"Sorry I'm late, there was a bird's nest and a guy made me fall and Tannur was being annoying!" She said in a rush of words.

A decent five were spent filling out the paper because Arryn didn't really know what to write. Elena, born the unfortunately kind samaritan she was, had guided him throughout the process. A lot of the questions weren't relevant since he'd just gotten the pup, so there really wasn't much else to fill out besides names, dates, the address, the puppy's breed, and its estimated date of birth. In general, she felt rather proud of the man since he appeared to not need as much help as she had assumed.

Fifteen minutes later, they were done. The poor puppy got his first set of shots and poked and prodded in places he probably didn't appreciate. Elena felt a bit guilty every time she looked at him because his expression screamed "Why?" Her heart may have well broke if it weren't for Arryn's unexpected question as they began searching the store for the rest of their party, Elena grabbing a few doggy essentials as they passed.

"What did she mean by getting him 'fixed?'" By the time he had asked her that, the woman had a basket filled with trainings pads, a collar, a lead, some puppy chow, and of course, mentally stimulating toys. The smile that crept onto her face was unmaskable as she bent down to look at some shampoos and conditioners. Picking up ones that were easy on the skin, she stood up and leaned in to whisper.

She quietly explained what the veterinarian meant before setting the two bottles into her basket and carrying on with her business. It wasn't like it was anything to be embarrassed about, but neutering and spaying animals probably wasn't as big a thing in Aether as it was on Earth. Hell, they probably didn't even think about that process.

Before long, she noticed Daniel and Ana standing idly near the smaller animals. "There you are!" Elena said as she strolled over, her eyes following theirs to an unfamiliar man. "Do you know him or something?""

"Who are you supposed to be then?"

Rai could see the knife in Tannur's hands. There was once a time where such an insignificant weapon wouldn't even tickle Rai. However, as a human, even a measly knife would critically injure the red-haired man. Still, Rai was not worried. He was more than certain that another few moments, and he would be able to convince Tannur to let him go. "Sorry, I don't look like I used to. I'm R..."

"Now? You choose now to realize that you've been slacking off again?"

Tannur grabbed the napkin out of Rai's hands and continued to stare at him.

"You say I shouldn't kill anything and yet you're pulling a knife on the boy with the nice drums! That's rude, ya know!" Silver suddenly cussed and then ran off to work. "Tannur, don't stab him without me, red haired dude, don't be a church of light spy!!"

Rai never liked to see anyone cuss, but imagine his surprise when the little, innocent Silver dropped the F-bomb. The red-headed man stared wide-eyed at the girl as she ran off and looked back at Tannur, with knife still in hand. He was speechless as he pointed towards Silver. "Did Silver just...cuss? ... Tannur, what the heck it wrong with you!?! How could you let that girl be tainted like this!?!"

Rai nudged the knife away and craned his neck to follow Silver as she got distracted by a piece of trash barely outside of the park. After a few moments of shock and the following relief, Rai answered, "I'm Raijin. I know, I know, I look pretty different. I don't think Earth has done me many favors."
