Roland Fairchild
Lock Tavern Bar and Venue -> Roof Stage Area

The group spent the time before Elena's show catching up and swapping stories about their first month on Earth. He laughed so hard that his drink nearly came flying out of his nose when Roland heard the story of Arryn and Daniel's first night on Earth; Daniel chuckled along with him, but, despite Arryn's attempt to hide his humiliation behind his usual neutral mask, he couldn't stop the crimson from coloring his cheeks. Roland could only imagine the shock on those police officers' faces at finding them all tied up like kinky BDSM fetishists. Oh, to have been a fly on the wall of that interrogation room. All things considered, though, the three of them had done a far sight better than he and Marcus had at surviving Earth that day, thanks in no small part to Elena's help.

"Don't feel too bad. Our first few nights were not nearly so successful. We spent an obscene amount of money in an expensive B&B for a week, not realizing how much we actually wasted until it was too late, and after that, before we found our place, we spent a few nights sleeping in parks and alleyways. It was not a good time, as I'm sure Marcus could tell you." The boy was lost in thought; Roland wasn't sure if he even heard what Roland was saying. A little annoyed, he continued on, "We looked for information about you two and Lucrezia in bars all across London. It's very fortunate that Elena was there to help you through the process of getting ID; we ended up getting ours from a shady forger we met in one of our bar crawls. They're accurate and useful for the most part, but if we ever found ourselves arrested or in a hospital, where people would take a closer look, we would find ourselves in hot water very quickly. So, you see, Arryn, there's no need to look so embarrassed, my friend. You've adjusted far better than we have."

Arryn just looked even more uncomfortable. "Right..." he said, noncommittally, his green eyes roaming to the floor. Roland didn't know how it was possible, but Arryn might actually have become even MORE uptight than he was on Aether. A wonder, that.

Roland tried to learn a bit about Elena, but she was fairly self-contained, sticking to one word answers and quiet smiles. He sensed a bit of lonely sadness from her, which he supposed was only natural. These three had come to depend on her in many ways and now that they'd all met up again, she must think they would forget all about her. He didn't think they would--he could tell that she had become a very important person to Arryn, Daniel, and Ana, all three of them--but he wondered if it wouldn't be better for everyone if they actually did. They wouldn't be on Earth for much longer anyway, and hanging around with them would only put her in unnecessary danger, whether she took their true mission seriously or not. Worse, he could tell from the way Arryn and Daniel glanced at her when they didn't think she was looking that they were both smitten, to various degrees. If Lucrezia found out about that, it would become a weakness, a vulnerability. It put not only Elena herself in danger, but if the witch used her as a hostage as she used Ophelia against him at Blackrock, Elena would jeopardize their mission, putting himself and his friends in deadly danger as well. Roland would have to find a way to put a stop to the burgeoning feelings, at the very least. He felt some shame at the callous thought, given she seemed like a nice girl, but, knowingly or not, she was an obstacle, and he couldn't let his enemies have any advantage, couldn't let anything get in the way of killing Lucrezia. Instead of voicing this idea, though, he tried to shoot her a reassuring smile, doing his best not to let any of his pity for her or his friends, nor any of his worry about her, show too clearly. He would have to find the time to have a private chat with her later.

Their friendly chatter was cut off when a man came and whispered in Elena's ear and beckoned her upstairs, so the group followed Elena to the roof of the building, where the stage took up about a third of the place's surface area. The rest of the roof was occupied by a dance floor, several tables, and an open bar. Elena hastened off to the stage, where a group of musicians were waiting for her. Roland led the rest of the Aetherians to a large table where they could eat, drink, and converse while they listened to her performance. She had a decidedly nice singing voice, he decided; Arryn and Daniel, wide-eyed and slackjawed, looked completely enraptured by her, as if they were Ulysses and she were a siren trying to lead their ship to its rocky doom. His mouth gave a wry twist at the potential aptness of that comparison, even if the poor girl didn't actually know that's what she might be doing.

He put that out of his mind; now that they were alone, it was time to get down to business with his Aetherian companions. Roland fished the drawing of Lucrezia he'd done before he came here out of his backpack.

"Take a good look at this, everyone. This is Lucrezia, exactly as I remember her from our attack on Blackrock. I didn't have time to color this, but the most distinctive things about her to me were her yellow eyes; they seem to pierce you, pin you to the floor and hold you where you stand. Suss out all your secrets and all your fears at once. It is...unsettling to have her look at you. Of course, she probably looks far different on Earth, but who knows? Maybe she knew some way to keep herself in her true form, with all her true powers. Keep an eye out for any human who looks even remotely like this, in any case."

"...I see," put in Daniel Payne, the first thing he'd said since the group met together. "Have you found anyone that looks like that yourself, my prince? Or anyone who might serve as her accomplices?"

"I'm glad you asked," Roland said with a confident smile.

Roland told them all about finding Silver in the tattoo parlor, going over every part of his day that had led up to that. "I intend to follow her until she leads me to Lucrezia," he said in conclusion. "She must have allies in this world, and I will track them all down until they lead me to my target."

Arryn took on a thoughtful look as he listened to the whole story. He adopted that pensive stare and the curious twist to his mouth that Roland remembered so well on his Aetherian form. It looked younger on his new face, but no less potent for it. It meant that he was thinking things through from every angle in his usual way, going over Roland's plan again and again in his mind. Arryn's thoughtful, cautious nature was something Roland had always admired about him and something he relied on him heavily for. He did things slowly sometimes, which, along with his size, often made others think him slow-witted. In reality, though, his level-headed, deliberate way of approaching problems made him one of the most brilliant strategic minds Roland knew of. He'd take Arryn's advice over some of Alcamoth's most decorated generals' nine times out of ten.

"A problem, Arryn?"

"No..." he said thoughtfully after some time. "It's a good plan. Uncharacteristically careful, really. It's just...maybe you're not the best person to do the sneaking around. Not when we have someone like The Spider working with us. If we need a spy who's good at gathering information and not getting caught while doing it, we should look to Ana."

Roland chose not to respond to the 'uncharacteristically careful' part--more like Arryn was just sometimes TOO cautious--and looked to Ana, who had been very quiet to that point. She was throwing furtive glances around the rooftop venue as if scanning for threats and planning out emergency escape routes. Old habits died hard, he supposed.

"Not a bad suggestion, actually. Anastasia, what do you think? You can follow me to work on Monday and I can point out Silver for you. Can you follow her around and find all her contacts without getting caught?"

Ana was listening the whole time, watching the door. "Shouldn't be too hard... I still need to learn the city a bit, but I'm sure I can handle such an easy task." She said to him, feeling Elena leave her side. "But, maybe tonight shouldn't be filled with battle plans? We have our new friend, we are together again... Let's enjoy it!" She smiled and stood, making her way to the second floor and taking a seat to listen to Elena. She wasn't much for music, but found herself humming along, and listening to Elena made her feel much better, happy.

Juniper Arc
Millers cafe

Juniper let out a slight sigh as she didn't get the information she wanted from Lisa. "It was silly of me to think that it would be this easy after finding nothing for days already." she thought as Lisa introduced her roommate Rai. They conversed for a bit with him waving at her and Aemi before they closed in on each other as they spoke softly. She could have sworn that she saw her pass something to Rai but she decided to ignore it as he rather loudly exclaimed Lisa's boldness at asking him something in public. Juniper smiled as she got up from her seat and walked over to the counter a small way from Lisa. Reaching behind her she brought out a small pouch tied to one of her belt loops and counted out the £ 7.50 for her pie and drink. "Here's what I owe, if it's not too much trouble can you keep your eyes out for anyone weird looking? I know it may sound weird but I have a good reason for it."

Lisa rolled her eyes as she drew back, taking the opportunity to grab a few loose napkins and pieces of cutlery as she did so - her expression one of keen distaste. "Don't be so crass. I'd have better luck flirting with a door. And It'd probably have better conversation skills."

She gave him a pointed look of "Don't you dare be late" before finally marching back to the bar to help Juniper, who was waiting to make her payment as Hannah was still busy with Aemi.

"Here's what I owe, if it's not too much trouble can you keep your eyes out for anyone weird looking? I know it may sound weird but I have a good reason for it."

Lisa rose an quizzical eyebrow at the admittedly odd request. She leaned forward in interest, her small frame forcing her to pop up on her tiptoes to efficiently clear the counter.

"Oh? Who are you looking for?"

"Don't be so crass. I'd have better luck flirting with a door. And It'd probably have better conversation skills."

"I'd love to see you ask a door out to a date," Rai laughed as Lisa marched back to the counter to ring up the orange haired girl. He managed to catch the last half of whatever she was saying.

"-eyes out for anyone weird looking? I know it may sound weird but I have a good reason for it."

He didn't have much of an interest in other peoples' affairs, but this girl was looking for some "weird" people. From what he picked up, you don't look for strange people unless it's your job, or if you're weird yourself. Rai only knew that police were looking for the "strange" folk, so he only assumed that this girl was pretty weird herself. Was that a wrong assumption?... He'd pick up on it eventually, just like all this other social etiquette that humans abide by.

The redhead thought about commenting about Lisa's strangeness, but decided against it. If he annoyed her any more today, she would try to beat him up when he made instant noodles again. Then again, making instant noodles in it of itself would annoy her far more than anything he could say. Rai didn't know what she had against them. They were cheap and tasted pretty good. He supposed the "queen's palette" just wasn't meant for "peasants' food". The young man decided on commenting on himself instead, though he wasn't sure if it came out flirtatious or not. "Maybe you're looking for me? I'm pretty strange myself. Just ask Lisa."

He kept a watchful eye on their surroundings as they made their way up onto the rooftop, and settled in the corner as Elena began her song. He was happy to just sit on his own and listen, mismatched eyes slowly closing, but he remained awake and somewhat alert. When she had finished her set, he rejoined the others as soundlessly as a shadow.

Marcus wasn't sure he liked the plan (No, he was sure he absolutely hated it) but he kept his misgivings to himself. As always, he tried to just blend in with the background of people all drinking and having fun while he quietly sipped on a lemonade. He preferred to keep his head clear of confusing influences of alcohol or drugs - especially as his weapons of choice required good aim and swift reflexes to be of any use of all. Speaking of weapons, despite the fact that they had been here for a whole month, he still felt naked without his throwing knives within easy reach at all times, and he made sure to practice throwing them whenever he had the opportunity to ensure his skills didn't get too rusty.
He smiled slightly as he noticed the adoration clearly shown on Arryn and Daniel's faces... And then his smile faded as he looked at Roland.

Same sex relationships were common enough on Aether that very few eyebrows would have been raised, but people were expected to stick with their own species. Half breeds and their parents were reviled, as disgusting creatures that went against the natural way of things. And so, ever since the shapeshifter had realised his feelings for the human hero, he had known they were doomed. He had been happy just to serve by Roland's side, protect him, die for him even, to let his devotion show through his selfless actions but never through his words. One day, he'd meet another shapeshifter, even if they were getting increasingly rare, and he'd be able to forget these stupid, childish feelings.

But they were the same now. In this world, his feelings weren't taboo, they were allowed - celebrated, even, as a great parade had shown. He was human now, nothing more or less than the prince was...
But even if he did admit his feelings to his idol, they would still have to go home, and then he would just be an animal that sometimes wore a human skin, daring to have feelings for the hero of light. No thanks.

Well, to take his mind off of that worry, he decided to go and ask the question he had been dying to ask for a long time. "My prince -- Um, Roland-" He forced out, still not quite used to the informality of this world. "After you kill the witch, what do we do about her subordinates? Will they be made to pay for their crimes against Aether? Executed?"

Late Evening
Elena's voice was soft, gentle and there was a slight nasally tone that made her sound unique compared to other singers. The songs she sang were usually dark and slow, often accompanied by either a piano or guitar and sometimes both. The ones she chose to sing that night were very close to her heart even though she'd never like to admit it. It reminded her of a time when she was blinded by love and the pain that followed after it. So many tears were shed during those years but it provided her with a muse, like many other artists before her who absorbed inspiration from sadness. As she sang her voice echoed the strain on her heart but as she transitioned into something a bit happier and more upbeat, a small smile formed on her lips. Her eyes had wandered across her friends, their awestruck looks sending her a happiness she hadn't felt in some time.

It wasn't long before her brief, thirty minute performance was over. Even though she'd only sang three songs, the time was spent conversing with the crowd as they asked her questions. Many of them were aspiring musicians like her so she was pleased to respond to them. Thus the remainder of her show was greeted with laughter and witty jokes until she and her makeshift band made their way off the lowly lit stage. Elena began helping the men put their belongings away along the sidelines when she felt someone jump onto her back. Letting out an embarrassing squeak, the blonde woman spun around in horror only to meet the faces of her two best friends: Sophia and Felix.

Twins with perfect black hair and crystal blue eyes beamed at her, clearly approving her performance like always. "It's been ages!" Sophia half screamed, half squealed as she brought Elena into a bear hug. Elena squirmed slightly as her feet lifted off the ground, laughing at the raven-haired woman's childishness.

"We saw each other earlier today." Elena responded, shaking her head slightly. Back on her feet and adjusting her attire, Elena's eyes seemed to change when she noticed her friends sudden shift in body language. Both Sophia and Felix appeared tense even though they wore smiles on their faces--although they were strained. Elena tilted her head, her hair following the movement and spraying across her shoulder like a blanket. "What's wrong? Did you miss me that much?"

Felix was the first to speak, the corner of his lips immediately dropping and forming an unsightly crease on his chin. "Let's downstairs and talk." The tall man began leading the two down the stairs. Confused, Elena kept asking what was wrong while her eyes scurried about. They briefly met contact with one of her Aetherian friends, informing them of her temporary absence, before she was out of sight.

"Seriously, what's wrong?" Elena asked more seriously as she was pushed outside onto the sidewalk. "You two are acting really strange." She crossed her arms as she stood with her back to the street, a look of frustration on her face.

"Caleb..." Sophia began as her breath hitched, unsure of how to continue. "He's... uh..."

"The son of a bitch is back, Rose." Felix growled as he kicked the brick wall with anger, his breath heavy and hot.

"What?" Was the only thing that came out of the confused blonde as her stance faltered, turning her into someone meek and pitiful. Caleb? Caleb Swann? Thoughts began scrambling through her brain as if a computer were overloaded with data. Her heart both paced and ached at the mere mention of his name as she tried not to lose balance. He was the man she'd met at 15 and dated until she was 19 years of age. He was probably the bane of her very existence and knew exactly how to make her stomach churn uncontrollably. He was the first person she'd ever felt romantic feelings towards and he was the first person to teach her how agonizing heartbreak was over and over again. "What?" Elena repeated. "H-how do you know that?"

"He came to our pla-" Sophia began before being abruptly cut off by her brother.

"Rose, listen." Felix said gruffly as he placed his hands on her shoulders, shaking her slightly and meeting her at eye level. "You can't get shaken up by him again. He broke your heart twice, remember? The bastard cheated on you twice and then left for the States, remember that? Remember what those three months without him felt like?" Felix looked as hurt as Elena did as she looked into his eyes, a wave of emotion washing over her. She really didn't know how to feel then but she did remember what that time felt like. It was actually Hell for her and it took forever to break out of that tormenting cycle of self-harm. She'd finally made peace with how terrible Caleb was and began her journey to happiness. There was no way she'd let him ruin that again.

"I know," Elena muttered before Felix shook her. "I know!" Elena repeated loudly as she brushed the man's hands off. Feeling heated and somewhat disturbed with her brief moment of hesitation, Elena stood tall and brush her clothes down as if that made her feel better. "I better go join the others before they wonder where I went." Opening the door and stepping in halfway, the blonde turned around and asked, "Are you two coming?"

The two of them, both appearing frustrated and concerned, shook their heads and said they had to prepare for their family's reunion the next day. The three parted ways and Elena made her way back up the steps and to her friends. Finding a spot next to Arryn, she quickly switched her expression from distant to calm. "Sorry, my friends needed to ask me something." The woman said with a small smile as she grabbed one of the drinks sitting nearby. She didn't know whose it was, only that it was incredibly strong and mind blurring. Setting the now empty glass back down, she turned her attention to the small group. "So how did I do? Do you all have a plan for the uh... bad guy situation?" Elena asked, her tone already giddy from the alcohol. She giggled quietly to herself as she swayed her head from side to side, unsure if she was actually getting drunk or if her mind was placing her into a state of pure denial.

Juniper Arc
Millers cafe

Juniper's mind pulled a blank as she quickly tried to think of how to explain herself to Lisa "Umm well you see," she hadn't actually thought that she would be interested in the why from how she acted. "My... former boss and a few co-workers I knew might be in town. My boss was pretty eccentric, my job was in an actual castle back home until a rival-company forced us out though and we got separated. They may act a bit odd but they're good people and I'd love to meet with them again." There, that didn't sound too odd did it? "I'll be back in tommorow if you need actual descriptions, but don't lose sleep over it." After she finished paying for her meal she turned and walked out of the door, pausing to call out "It was nice meeting you all" before closing the door behind her and getting on her bike. She had a queen to search for and now nothing is going to distract her.

LISA SPARROW
MILLER'S CAFE

Lisa watched Juniper leave with a shadow of a smirk spreading over her elegant features before returning with some satisfaction to her book behind the counter. Rai left not soon after, acknowledged with only a halfhearted wave from behind a book. The rest of the afternoon plodded on with comfortable mediocrity, with Hannah being - mercifully - more than happy to do all the small talk with customers, leaving the various drink and food preparations to Lisa who was content to be left alone with her thoughts. For most of the day, Lisa stood quietly with her nose buried deep in her book. It seemed she had a different one every day - regardless of the size of the one she had previously. Her bright blue eyes darted from page to page, devouring every morsel of information with the hunger of a starved beast. The subjects she were studying were diverse as they were random - ranging from heavy and intimidating looking history books written in ages long past, all the way to (and to Hannah’s great amusement) small books designed for children. Regardless of the topic, she approached each with a serious and studitory manner.

Truly, Earth fascinated her. How could this place exist? It made no sense whatsoever - it was a paradox of impossibility, and it's sheer scale had been overwhelming at first. A history that spanned billions of years with an unclear origin - outside of a few vague scientific and religious theories, and the Earth itself was merely a speck of dust within a infinite ocean of stars. Did it share the same creator as her own home dimension? Who knew. The culture of Humanity was also a source of great wonder for her; they were simultaneously more ambitious and shrewd compared to the Humans she was familiar with, but also lazy and complacent. They had put a man on the moon, yet most seemed content to sit around watching television eating pringles.

They lacked a unified vision, and it was only a matter of time before they destroyed themselves.

But frankly that wasn't Lucrezia's problem. She had her hands full already.

Full hands, and no powers.

As if to remind her, she winced as her head pulsed with a sudden, sulkish throb of pain. Her month long headache had been taxing her since that unfortunate day in the registration office. For now, the only solution that had presented itself was to consume painkillers as if they were candy and ignore the occasional stabs of agony that broke through the numb wall she had created around herself. It was hardly long-term - she was unsure if her current form could maintain such a siege like the one she was putting it through forever, but for now it was....well. Acceptable. Though it did little to improve her already frosty personality.

Her thoughts were scattered, as Hannah's mobile phone suddenly started shrieking and rumbling angrily on the counter. Her co-worker quickly dashed over and scooped it up, her expression one of worry.

"Hey," She said quietly, to whoever was calling her.

"...no. No I haven't forgotten. Don't worry about it. Yes...yes I know. Okay. see you soon."

Lisa rose an eyebrow at her as Hannah put her phone down. She always seemed rather anxious after using it.

"Everything alright?"

"Yeah. I just gotta run home - we're gonna close early. Not like we're gonna get anymore customers anyway."

Lisa found herself hesitating for a moment, feeling her curiosity peaked somewhat - before stamping it down. She didn't have time to get involved in domestics. She simply nodded and removed her apron; folding it neatly and leaving it on the side as Hannah dashed about turning off various appliances.

"...Ready when you are."

Arryn Bennett
Lock Tavern Bar and Venue

Arryn was forced to divide his attention between Rose on stage and Roland detailing how they were going to find Lucrezia and ultimately return home. He looked briefly at the drawing Roland produced, an extremely detailed, accurate black and white sketch of the woman he vaguely remembered seeing at a long distance just before Blackrock castle was blown to bits. He committed the image to memory in case he came across anyone who looked like that and turned his attention back to the stage, where Elena looked completely in her element as she sang. The look of intense focus on her face, one that spoke to how absorbed she was in her task and how seriously she took it, was one Arryn was all too familiar with; she must've felt somewhat like he did whenever he had a hammer and tongs over a piece of metal in the forge back on Aether, like the world ceased to exist except the metal, the hammer, and the forge until the job was done. When he was doing what he loved, he could shut out everything around him--even, to Hogan's frequent frustration, others trying to speak to him--for hours at a time and focus only on what he needed to do. The old dwarf used to say it was like he'd gone to a different planet whenever he went to work. Something about the animated way she moved, the lively gleam in her blue eyes, and the unmistakable note of passion in her voice on high notes and low gave the former blacksmith the impression that she could probably relate to that sensation.

At the same time he was watching Elena, Arryn ran through Roland's proposed plan over and over again in his mind, going through it piece by piece in attempt to find any problems. That Roland thought he could be inconspicuous enough to follow someone around long enough to learn who her friends were without her noticing was laughable--the man stood out like a sore thumb in any crowd just by virtue of the sheer confidence he radiated, not to mention his blazing red hair, mismatched eyes, and dragon tattoos proclaiming his identity for anyone who knew what they meant--hence his suggestion that Ana the spy do that job instead. Besides that, though, he couldn't find any fault with the plan itself, though there was one question he was burning to ask: how were they going to get home afterward? Would they kill Lucrezia, save this world and theirs, and then get thrown in a jail cell for the rest of their days as a reward? For now, Arryn held his tongue. He would wait until they'd worked out the kinks in actually killing the woman before he brought up the thorny topic of whatever came after. That, and he was still listening to Rose sing.

When her set was over, Rose slipped off the stage and out of sight for a bit. Daniel, in the seat next to them, mentioned he was headed to the bathroom and left his drink on the table. A mixed drink of some kind, though he couldn't tell what. Regular ale (or beer, as they called it here) was good enough for most of them, but the werewolf had an unmistakably refined taste for the finer things. The next he saw of Rose, she was headed outside with two of her friends, one of whom was the woman he recognized from earlier in the day. Sophia, if he recalled correctly? In any case, he now shifted his undivided attention to the Aetherians and their plotting.

"...Shouldn't be too hard," Ana was saying in agreement with Roland's suggested plan. "I still need to learn the city a bit, but I'm sure I can handle such an easy task."

"Excellent!" Roland responded. "I like your confidence, Ana. Give me your address before we leave here and I'll drop by Monday morning before work. It will be early--say 7:30AM? You can follow me at a distance from there. Once I get inside, keep an eye on the front door for a silver-haired girl. You'll know her when you see her. That's your target. Find out everything you can about her: where she lives, what she does, and especially who she interacts with. Those people will be our most likely suspects as to who the Mad Queen might be masquerading as."

Ana nodded. "But maybe tonight shouldn't be filled with battle plans? We have our new friend, we are together again...let's enjoy it!"

Roland's eye twitched irritably at that. Arryn wasn't sure if anyone else noticed it besides him, because the prince's posture didn't change one bit and when he spoke, his voice was just as level as before.

"Need I remind you that every moment that woman lives, our homes are in danger? Alcamoth, Cloudtop, Crowhaven, Merluminal, Gulorum, Magruduhl...all of them, and every innocent life that lives within them. I realize she didn't burn your city to the ground as she did mine, Ana, but you oughtn't forget that if we take too long, she won't hesitate to do so when she gets a chance. Could you imagine Cloudtop in flames, its people screaming in agony and despair? Thousands dead, your entire family included? That is, if they are lucky; perhaps she would torture them first just for fun, maybe force them to get on their knees and abdicate their throne to her. Do not let this new world make you so complacent that you forget the reason we're here is to kill her and then leave as soon as possible." He stared with a level gaze right into the spy's eyes and there was a tension between them that Arryn could practically taste.

Arryn looked down from the exchange in solemn silence. As the Hero of Light and the prince of an entire nation, Roland had the well-being of every living thing on Aether riding on his shoulders. It was a massive responsibility for anyone to have to carry. As a result, he had always had a near-obsessive focus on killing Lucrezia and others sometimes thought him...extreme...in the lengths to which he would go to do it. Arryn couldn't say he was wrong to think that way, though. He still remembered Hogan's last moments, facing down ten of Lucrezia's orcs to buy him enough time to escape before he burned alive with the rest of the city. She would do that to everyone who stood against her if she could. The woman was a threat to the people of their world as long as she remained alive and now that she was here, the people of Earth were in danger as well. Rose was in danger. He would not let her die as Hogan had. He would not be helpless to protect what mattered again, no matter what body he was forced into. Still, Roland could sometimes be very harsh, even with allies, as a result of his fixation.

The momentary tension was broken, luckily, by Marcus, who had a question of his own. ""My prince -- Um, Roland, after you kill the witch, what do we do about her subordinates? Will they be made to pay for their crimes against Aether? Executed?" A very good question indeed, Arryn thought. What about them?

"Hmmm." Roland took a moment to think. "There's no denying that they could be a threat, especially if they retained their abilities from Aether. I'm not sure that they did, though. Silver was changed much as you are. She retained her human qualities, but none of the obvious features of a shifter were apparent. My orders to you from that first day remain the same, Marcus. Unless they make obstacles of themselves in our mission to kill Lucrezia or they threaten innocent lives, we will try and avoid them as much as possible. Once we kill Lucrezia, they will have no way home and, if they truly have lost their abilities as we did and as Silver appeared to, no way to cause trouble that the local authorities can't deal with. If things go well, we will simply strand them here, no way back to their homes or their powers. That ought to be punishment enough for that sorry lot."

Now was as good a time to bring it up as he was ever going to get, Arryn figured.

"And how exactly WILL we get home, Roland?" he asked.

"That...I admit, I have not found any answers to that question, though it isn't for lack of trying," he said. "I looked all over the internet and all throughout the library for some mention of Aether or parallel worlds or...something. As yet, no luck. I do have one potential lead on a way home, though it is a slim hope at best. It might sound odd, but I've had a recurring dream lately that I cannot help but think is significant somehow. I think it's trying to tell me something important. It might be related to the way we will eventually get home, but I need more time to sort out what it means."

Arryn exchanged baffled looks with Marcus and then looked back to Roland. "A...a dream? That's how we'll get home?" He turned again to Marcus. "Has he mentioned this to you before?"

Roland winced. "I realize how it sounds, but it's all the lead I've got on that front for right now. It may be that there is no way home. As much as I hate to contemplate that possibility, it might be true for all we know. But the important thing, whether we are able to go home or not, is to kill Lucrezia. As long as she is dead, this world and ours are safe, whether we are there or not. The people need not worry about her or her forces returning to resume her genocidal conquest."

Arryn was struck dumb. No way home. Stuck here forever. In this body. "We'd go to jail for murdering her. They don't know what she is here. They'd lock us away for the rest of our lives, Roland."

"That's a risk I'm willing to take. A risk we all have to take," he responded coldly. "To sacrifice ourselves for the sake of others...that is what it means to walk in the Light."

Arryn couldn't think of how to respond to that, but it didn't really matter. Any further conversation about it was cut off when Elena approached their table and sat in the chair next to him, Daniel's still-empty seat since he'd gone to the bathroom.

"Sorry, my friends needed to ask me something," she said. She picked up the mixed drink Daniel had been sipping at before he left and started draining it at a somewhat alarming rate until it was completely empty. "So, how did I do? Do you all have a plan for the, uh...bad guy situation?"

"You did amazing, Rose. You make just about the best bard I've ever heard," he said with genuine admiration. "As for the, uh...bad guy situation...yeah, we have something," Arryn responded. "It's a bit of a work in progress, though."

Rose giggled giddily at him. Now that he got a good look at her, with the exception of the alcohol-induced red flushing in her cheeks, she seemed kind of pale, as if she'd seen a ghost. And she'd drained Daniel's drink like it was nothing. Was she always like this after a performance? Maybe it was some sort of ritual for her. Or like a mild, post-singing delirium.

"Are you alright?" he asked her. "You seem a bit different than usual. And your coloring's off...are you sick? Maybe we should all head home now. Looks like things are starting to rap up here anyway. What do you think, Roland?"

Roland had been lost in thought and Arryn's question seemed to jar him back to the present. "Hm...? Oh, yes, of course. Whenever everyone's ready, we can head out. Rose, you and Ana live together don't you? I think it's on the way to where Marcus and I live. If you don't mind, could we accompany the two of you for a bit? I still want to work out some minor details with Ana about what we discussed and there was something else I wanted to talk to you about as well."

After being given the task over an hour ago, she still hadn't bought any eggs. The supermarkets Morgana visited were either clo5sed for remodel, filled with too many people, or completely out of stock. She knew how important eggs were for a bed and breakfast, however, and she also wasn't the type to ever give in to defeat. Even though the sun was beginning to wane in the blue sky, she'd search throughout the night if she had to. A bit overly dramatic, yes, but it was the loyal soldier in her that sewed responsibility so deeply into her skin. It wasn't as if Garrett would complain either so long as she brought what he needed before sunrise.

A slight flicker from the corner of her eye brought Morgana's attention to a small store. It's windows were lined with different foods, quite similarly to a major supermarket. Her feet were already moving one in front of the other before she realized they might have what she needed, although it didn't appear to be conventional for that type of store. Reading over the store's sign and confirming it was some sort of "deli", she open the glass door as a bell ringed throughout the interior of the building.

"Hello?" Morgana said questionably as she walked closer to the counter, noting a somewhat grimy main waiting before her and a guy with long, black hair standing behind the counter. Assuming the employee was taking an order, the brunette remained a safe distance away from her fellow customer. He, on the other hand, had a different idea and slowly began inching his way over. Face stern and body still, she chose to ignore the blonde and cross her eyes in feign attempt to appear "tougher" than usual. It was something she did back in Aether, but she was a bit bulkier then and wore kilos of armor that increased her intimidation factor by at least ten fold. That was the case for her on Earth, unfortunately. Garrett just told her she looked like something was "stuck up her ass" or whatever that statement meant.

Then she felt it. A warmth suddenly growing on her left bottom cheek as a large hand wrapped around it. The calmness in her disappeared as quickly as a flipping a switch. Morgana moved swiftly, something she learned she was much better at thanks to losing some of her old weight, and grabbed the hand that touched her. In an instant, she was behind the bigger male with his hand twisted behind him. He let out a small whine of pain, struggling to even stay on his feet. "Hey, hey, now Miss," the blonde male began, some what choking on his words from the pain he was feeling from his left shoulder down. His lilt was different from the resident's of London and she could only assume he was also a foreigner. "There's no need to be violent. I was just showing my appreciation is all. You're just a rare beaut."

Morgana scoffed, her amber eyes burning as if she were ready to set the world on fire. "What a vile man. Trying to make an excuse, are you?" She pushed his hand further up his back, her ears blessed by another small cry. "Do you want to fucking die?" She asked with anger of at least a thousand dying men. Her question was a famous quote of hers that she'd often sport back in Aether, but without the word "fucking". That was something she'd added on after being around Garrett for so long. She'd learned that he was quite a sailor with his words, not that she really minded. It was different for her, especially after being around a proper God of Lightening for so long.

Without letting the man speak, she grabbed the money he held in his other hand, slammed it on the counter, and shoved his items into his arms. The tall yet slender woman pushed him out until it was only her and the dark-haired employee. Stepping closer to the counter, Morgana scanned the man as if watching for some type of reactions. Her eyes finally stopped at what she assumed was a name tag, and she let out another scoff. Of course that's his name, the woman thought as she immediately thought about an ungrateful half-elf. Well, she didn't know about ungrateful but she did know he had a tendency to irritate her. Plus he knew things that no one else did, and that was something that made her incredibly uncomfortable.

"Do you happen to sell eggs?" Morgana asked as she stared straight into his blue eyes. "I need at least 30, um... Tannur."

Tannur - At Work
Standing behind the till Tannur continued to lament the circumstances that had forced him into working like a normal citizen, being on the sandwich counter at least let him do some knifework and had people admiring his work but as the evening drew in he often got stuck cashiering, a lot of why he did what he did back in Aether had been motivated not just by greed but also for the thrill of it and the normal shopkeepers had been people he had looked down on while wondering how they could stand having such mundane lives.

Looking about he glazed over the two customers and realised that Silver had wandered off somewhere again, he was pretty sure she had learned not to leave the store after he had ended up spending hours searching for her eventually finding her trying to sleep under a tree in a brewing thunderstorm, hopefully she was just using the lavatory and not eating the stock again.

Deciding that Silver would at least not hurt herself for the moment he returned his attention to the customers just as the man tried to cop a feel on the other customer who swiftly had the molester bent over with an arm twisted up behind his back before Tannur could hop over the counter and kick his arse by himself, hearing the man's worthless justification he snorted loudly. "Nothing stopping you from appreciating from afar, I'm certainly enjoying this show." Leaning on the counter he smirked at man as he struggled, in truth the lady was certainly someone he wouldn't mind talking with for a while but even an ex-streetrat thief like him had more than enough class not to just grab someone.

As the woman roughly handed over the man's cash and tossed him out Tannur decided to just go with it and put the sale through while she walked back. "Here you can hang onto his change, call it a token of my appreciation for such a wonderful performance." Listening to her request he raised his brows a little. "That's...quite a lot of eggs but we should have enough." More surprising than the request for eggs was the correct pronunciation of his name, most people ended up saying "tanner" which was apparently a more common name on Earth. Seeing as no other customers were around he stepped out from behind the counter. "Right this way." Maybe he'd find where Silver was hiding while wandering around.

Ana narrowed her eyes at the man. How dare he call her family into this! "They are none of my concern." She spat, hushed in tone to prevent a scene. "They cast me out on the street, abandoned me. So what if I ended up doing the same? My brother will make it, he always does. He is the only one I truly cared about from that sorry lot. And unlike you, I don't have the weight of the world on my shoulders. All I need to worry about is myself, and as of right now, you guys." She rose to meet his level, leaning on the table, almost ready to tear his throat out now. "You said it yourself, we kill her, she won't get back. I have no reason to worry about them." She said, refusing to call it home. "And do me a favor, Roland. Go back up on your high horse and don't tell me how to do my job. Nobody does that to you. And if you ever try to pull my family in me again, I am not afraid to attack the Church of Light's poster boy." She looks at Daniel and motions for him to move, which he does with a concerned look. "Goodnight, all." She said before walkihg away, shaking her head in anger.

"The nerve..." She mumbled to herself, zipping up her jacket and stuffing her hands in her pockets as she walked, scowling as her eyes scanned for someone out of the way to go to vent.

Silver Ferae, The Deli - IG42 IG42 koala koala
The albino wandered out from the back room, pouting after she had been shooed away from the stored food by another employee. The people who worked at the deli were mostly used to her antics by now, and thought she was just a rather simple girl that Tannur was looking after. And a few of them even occasionally let her get away with sneaking food.
Not taday, though. She sighed dejectedly, casually draping herself over the male and repeatedly poking his cheek, not caring that he was dealing with a customer. She hadn't seen the confrontation, so it just looked like any normal transaction. That involved Tannur going into the back room where the eggs were kept.

"Hey, Tannur." She whined. "I'm hungry. Gimme food."

Her eyes lit up as an idea occurred to her, and Silver grinned. "Hey, if I help carry all the eggs, you have to get me food, Tannur! Okay?"

LISA SPARROW
Lisa sat on a bench quietly, allowing the late evening warmth to seep through her bones as she partook in her new favorite hobby - people watching. She had a little spare time until she had to meet Rai after all - it was rare that she would find herself with any amount of free time within her self-imposed schedule.

An old lady in a patterned headscarf hobbled along, a Tesco bag in each hand. A pinstripe suit beside her flicked a finger at a few city types sitting at a table outside a pub, who jeered in a boozy chorus in response as he joined them. A blue one-man duscart shambled down the sidewalk, emptying waste bins. Lisa watched idly as a tired looking woman with a squealing child struggled along the opposite pavement. She watched two middle ages men peering through the window of a electronics shop, ogling at the gigantic televisions and stereo systems that were proudly labeled with exorbitant prices. A beach-blonde woman in a too-tight skirt and uncomfortable looking heels totted in the other direction with a supermarket trolley full of groceries. A scruffy looking man walking a large, brown dog marched by - close to where Lisa was perched, and the dog glanced over her with inquisitive eyes before going back to his snuffling over the pavement.

She recalled a time - several names ago - when she had originally become quite enamored with Humanity. Such a resourceful, stubborn species they were! They had spread like an unstoppable fire across the world; succeeding in what no other race had ever managed with comparative ease even though they tended to pop like balloons if one poked them a little too hard.

Fascinating race.

Cruel and depraved...but fascinating.

Especially him.

Lisa reclined on the bench, and closed her eyes - a familiar throb of pain dancing across her temple.

The next few days would be vital. Shadows were gathering in the dark corners of the city.

Secrets would come to light.

Someone might very well die.

It made her feel nostalgic.

Late Evening
"Hm?" Elena responded, turning her head slowly and clumsily towards the male beside her. She tilted her head as if his words were going through a long translating process before her eyes seemed to light up. "Oh, yes..." Her head returned to swayed from side to side ever so slightly, a sound escaping her lips in the form of a messy hum. "I'm fine." The young woman added as she abruptly stood up and took a swig of someone else's drink, the corners of her lips creeping up in a somewhat disturbed fashion. "... I suppose." She finished off as she focused her eyes on the Prince of Holiness or whatever his title was, nodding at his words.

"Yes! Home sounds fantastic right now." Clapped the blonde as she began to gather the little belongings she brought with her, eyes scanning the small group. Noting that her flatmate was nowhere in sight, Roland's question was likely due to her absence. She probably left early. She thought, understanding her friend's personality. From the month she'd spent with the spy, Elena deducted that loud and crowded places didn't seem to be Ana's forte. She wasn't the only person missing, however, as the woman made a weak attempt at looking for Daniel. Of course, the werewolf was no where in sight so he'd likely left the scene earlier as well.

Instantly taking lead, the woman strutted out the door as if she didn't care about what the outside world challenged her with. They were barely half way to her house when she decided her heels were a pain. Dropping to the ground, she tore off the shoes aggressively and tossed them aside before groaning as she got back to her feet. That was when she stopped and pouted, processing what she actually just did. Elena turned around and quickly when to pick up her shoes before running back to the trio, bare feet patting against the cold concrete ground. She didn't really care about what anyone thought of her at that moment. All that mattered was her current freedom and trying to erase her mind of any previous negativity that may have tried to taint her.

It wasn't long before the twenty-one year old began to sing quietly to herself, although it was loud enough for those near her to hear. The song "La Vie En Rose" filled the space around her, her voice echoing into the empty alleys and roads during some of the higher notes. Her arms were swinging side-to-side as she sang, right fingers hooked onto her worn shoes. By the time the song was over, they were standing in front of the woman's house. It was normally a beautiful blue during the day, but with only the a few lamp posts it almost gave off an eerie appearance.

The door open with a quiet creek as Elena flipped on her main light switch. In an instance, the almost haunting home became bright and homey. She dropped her shoes beside the door and dragged her feet towards the kitchen, not caring if the others followed or not. The memory was vague, but she was almost positive Roland had said he wanted to talk to her about something back at the venue.

Setting four hot mugs of hot tea on the small dining table, Elena sat herself down in her usual spot. The atmosphere felt extremely tense to her for whatever reason as she presumed to cross her legs. Her doe eyes were somewhat hazy and it was hard to tell whether she was actually sober enough to hold a decent conversation, but she was trying her best to keep face and not randomly burst out crying. "What did you want to talk about?"

Marcus and Arryn seemed determined to look at anything but the confrontation between Roland and Ana. He knew both men were aware of the growing tension between them, but Marcus wrung his hands nervously and studied the tablecloth as if it held the secret to life and Arryn, though he watched cautiously from the corner of his eye, seemed outwardly to have no concern for anything but the increasingly inebriated woman sitting to his left and guzzling the drink Daniel left behind.

As for the woman currently invading his personal space, Roland had only met Anastasia Kochenkov on a few brief occasions back on Aether, not long enough to form a solid impression of her character beyond that she was closed-mouthed, solitary, and skilled at what she did. Even so, he did not think her selfish--at least not any moreso than any other mercenary in the Church's employ--and certainly not the type to allow momentary pleasures or unresolved traumas to cloud her judgment. Unfortunately, it appeared, from the way she acted and spoke tonight, that he had been wrong about that. He was not sure if Earth had brought this side out of her or it had been there all along and he had just never been around her long enough to see it. Either way, Roland needed her to do her job and he had no time to coddle a petulant child through her petty insecurities. Others might have been intimidated by her threats and the aggressive aura she gave off. They might have backed off, stood down. Maybe they would've felt bad for her and apologized. Roland did none of these things.

He did not move from where he stood. He changed his straight-backed, commanding posture not one whit. Even as she came close enough for him to smell her breath, he didn't even blink. He looked her straight in the eyes with a chilling glare from his own mismatched pupils, cool and composed as could be, and kept his voice at a level tone deliberately meant to contrast from the note of emotional tension in her own hushed growling. His rebuke came out so flatly he might have been discussing the weather with her, so coldly he might have been trying to freeze her blood in her veins with nothing but his words. "It is one thing if you do not care what happens to your own family. That is regrettable, but of no concern to anyone but you and them. If, however, you can think of the people of your country--the people whom you, as their monarch, were born to serve and protect; people who depend on you to do your duty for their safety, happiness, and prosperity--if you can think of them subjected to the twisted rule of that madwoman and still sit here and tell me you care for no one's welfare but your own, then the king and queen of Cloudtop were right to disinherit and disown you. Someone so selfish should never come within twenty feet of a throne, let alone a crown. You may not care about anyone but yourself, but the rest of us have loved ones, countrymen, and a home to protect. Either you will do your duty and assist, or you will stay the hell out of our way. Is that understood, child?" On the last word, he put a hard emphasis, the only word on which his voice grew even a little bit heated for the errant princess.

Before the stand-off could get violent, level-headed Arryn was the one who spoke up in an irritated, almost accusatory tone. "Rose isn't feeling well, as you both should plainly be able to see. She needs to go home and get to bed. Can we perhaps save this discussion for another time?" She tried to grab another drink from the table--Arryn's own, Roland thought--and drain that one as she had Daniel's, but the blacksmith gently snatched it from her hand and helped her to her feet before she could get more than a sip of it.

"Of course," Roland said suddenly lightly, turning away from Ana abruptly and ignoring anything else she did or said. He drained the last of his mug of beer and grabbed his backpack from the back of his chair. "Shall we, Marcus? Daniel?" The werewolf had re-emerged from the bathroom at some point during the heated discussion and had chosen to stay as silent as the other two. No spines, these people, he thought wryly. The group left together, Rose drunkenly leading the way back to her and Ana's place.

The whole way back to Elena's place, Roland looked for some chance to speak to Elena privately. Unfortunately, with her leaning on Arryn for support and him all but carrying her, that proved to be impossible. Even if he had managed it, she was clearly not in a mental state where she could comprehend what he needed to tell her. So, he decided to let it go for tonight. He wasn't entirely sure how or why she'd ended up in such a bad state, but she hadn't seemed so out of sorts before she left with those two friends of hers. He wondered briefly what could have happened between the three of them, but then his thoughts flicked grimly back to Ana and he decided not to think too hard about it; he had enough of his own problems to deal with right now without prying into hers. Instead of the quiet warning he'd intended to give the Earth girl, he made some small talk with Daniel and Marcus instead, asking what they thought of this world and all its fascinating technology. Eventually, the group came to an intersection. Daniel whispered something in Arryn's ear that Roland couldn't hear. Arryn nodded in return and then the werewolf turned to the rest of them. "Well, it's been lovely night, all, but I am tired and have work tomorrow. I believe I will head home ahead of Arryn. My Prince, it has been an honor, as always. Let us hope your plan succeeds and we can go home before much longer." He turned to Marcus. "Take care, lad. I'll see you again soon." With that, Daniel went down one street while the rest of them continued along another to Rose's place. Rose did not seem to notice his departure at all, evidently more concerned with finding the shoes she'd flung away a second ago. Roland wondered wryly if she even realized he'd been with them at all.

As they stepped into Rose's apartment, Roland made a mental note of its address so he could find it again Monday morning. Inside, he took a good look around the homey little flat and couldn't help but wince briefly as he mentally compared it to his own room; next to his closet-sized dwelling, this place was downright luxurious. "Well," he said to Elena, politely ignoring her clumsy fumbling through the cabinets for mugs and tea bags, "this is a lovely home you have here, Rose. You seem like a very well put-together young woman. I can see why Arryn and Daniel have come to trust and rely on you." She gave a small hiccup and nearly tripped trying to make it back over to the table with all the mugs, but caught herself at the last moment, giggling incoherently all the while. Arryn grimaced. Roland and Marcus sipped at their tea and pretended not to notice. It was a good blend; chamomile, Roland thought. He'd sleep well tonight after a cup of this.

When the tea was done, Elena's otherwise foggy eyes regained a small semblance of their earlier lucidity as she turned to him and asked, in a small, slurred voice, "what did you want to talk about?" Roland laughed nonchalantly and waved the question off. "Ah, remember that, do you? Oh, well, it was nothing important," he lied. "I just wanted to thank you again for helping my friends. It truly means the world to me, and especially to them. I meant what I said earlier; if there is ever anything I can do for you, please don't hesitate to ask." He gently elbowed Marcus and Arryn to either side of him in the ribs and stood from the table. "Well, it's late and I wouldn't want to keep you up. Thank you very much for your hospitality, Rose. You have a lovely singing voice; I only hope I get to hear you perform again before we leave for Aether. Coming, Marcus? Arryn?"

"I'm going to stay here for a bit longer and help Rose to bed," Arryn said. "You two go on. We told you where our place was, right, Prince Roland? You'll be able to find me and Daniel again if you need us, and we you."

"Very well, old friend. Take good care of her, will you? Make sure she gets plenty of water. I'm guessing she has a rough morning ahead of her tomorrow."

"Of course," Arryn said solemnly, as he began to guide her toward the bedrooms like a soldier off to fight a war.

Roland turned toward the living room as they went. On the other side of it, he saw two closed bedroom doors. Arryn gently marched Rose into one, so Ana must be in the other, he figured. He raised his voice so that she could hear him through the closed door, though not loud enough to be heard by anyone outside the apartment. "Anastasia, I'll be here Monday morning at 7:30AM to show you the way to my and Silver's workplace. I trust you will be ready." After a bit of thought, he added, "I need not remind you that this is the only plan we have at present for getting home." If her duty failed to motivate her, perhaps her own admitted self-interest would.

With that, he and Marcus let themselves out the front door, made sure it was locked and closed behind them, and then descended back out into the night. As they walked home in the crisp, cool night air, Roland turned to his young friend and smiled companionably. The boy was shy and withdrawn at times, yet, unlike Ana, he was driven and responsible, moreso than most men twice his age, and eager to learn and help; Roland knew of few people he could trust and rely on more.

"I probably don't tell you this enough, Marcus, but I truly appreciate your friendship and all that you do for me and for the Light. You're one in a million, kid, and don't you ever forget it." He reached up and tousled the boy's hair playfully, as though they were back on Aether and he were still taller and older than the adolescent shifter. "So, lad, how was your night? Do you have any thoughts about our plan? Did you like the singing? What did you think of Arryn and Daniel's new friend, Rose, and about Anastasia, the ever-mysterious spider," he asked him casually as they made their way home in the quiet, peaceful night, crickets chirping rhythmically in the distance as they went.

...Stranded? They were just going to abandon the other Aetherians to be trapped here forever?
The bottom dropped out of Marcus's stomach, and he started to formulate arguments in his head. He had spent twelve years trying to find his little sister, and he wasn't planning on losing her to some strange world. That was when he made up his mind: he was going to tell Roland about his sister, explain it and then hopefully manage to secure some kind of leniency for her.

But before he could start to make his case for why Lucrezia's subordinates should be brought back to Aether and given fair trial, Ana and the prince were arguing. The black haired boy subtly angled himself so he could get in between the pair of them if it got too physical. At some points, he wanted to speak up, but he bit his tongue, deciding not to interfere. He let out an audible sigh of relief when the spider stormed off, glad that he wouldn't have to break up a fight.

Finally, after what felt like an incredibly long night, full of noise and sound and people...It was just him and Roland again. Sure, he was glad to have found the others, but it was a relief to have Roland to himself again. Even if his earlier decision to tell Roland about Scarlett was weighing heavily on his mind. Marcus bit his lip nervously, seeming lost in thought, but he jolted out of his thoughts and back to reality by his hair being messed up. Frowning, he fixed it - it still looked messy, but messy in the way he liked it.
"One...In a million? There probably aren't even a million shifters, you know. We're dying out." He muttered, actually sounding kind of bitter. The species had been in decline for years, due to people mistaking shifters for animals and killing them, the war, and the way ShapeShifters were. They were emotional thinkers, impulsive, fickle creatures who charged into situations without thinking ahead.

Not the sort of people who lived very long.

"I guess...Tonight was okay. The singing was pretty good, and I quite like Elena...But the spider's- Oh, it doesn't matter what I think about her!"
Marcus stopped dead in his tracks, grabbing onto Roland's arm to stop him too.
"Look," He said, tone quiet, eyes fixed on the ground,"I should have told you this after Blackrock, once I confirmed my suspicions about the Mad Queen's ShapeShifter general, but I didn't, and I'm really sorry... But I hoped I could keep her safe if you didn't know too much about her. The shapeshifter that killed Georg, and countless other Light warriors... Is none other than my little sister, Scarlett Felis."

It felt good to finally get that off his chest, too good perhaps, as right after he blurted. "Also, I think I'm slightly in love with you."

Roland was surprised when Marcus suddenly grabbed his arm and stopped him short--it wasn't like him to be so bold. If that surprised him, though, what the boy said next had his jaw nearly on the floor.

"Your...sister? Silver is your sister?"

Roland worked through the implications of that in his head. He replayed the events of the Battle of Blackrock, particularly the fight between Marcus, Daniel and Silver in the castle halls, with this new piece of information in mind.

"You...didn't get between her and Daniel just to help him shift back, did you? In Blackrock Castle, I mean. You were trying to protect the girl."

He kept his voice level and without emotion as he asked this. It wasn't hard, to be honest; he was so shocked that he felt numb. He wasn't exactly sure how to react to this new information, let alone the second thing he said.

"Yes, she's...My younger sister. She goes by a different name now, but I knew it was her from the instant I saw her. Even her new name just sounds like something the girl I remember would pick." Marcus kept looking down at the ground, but he sneaked a few glances at Roland from the corner of his eye, trying to gauge the prince's reacton. To either revelation.
Ah, there was the question he'd been hoping wouldn't be asked. About how he stopped the fight that almost killed his sister.

The borderline act of treason.

"Yes, I stopped the fight to save her. You have to understand, I thought she was dead for twelve years, I had given up hope of even meeting another one of my own kind, let alone my family. I saw my parents slaughtered right in front of me, along with my other siblings and I always assumed the same fate had met her... And then she was there, right in front of me. I had found she was alive...Only to likely lose her agaon. I know she's a murderer but...But I..." His voice shook, tears making his vision blur.

"She's my little sister, and I already failed to protect her once. If it wasn't for my failure, she would never have found her way to the witch's side... Just please, sir, don't... Don't strand her here. You can hate me instead of her, if you still need someone to hate, because this is all my fault. I should have found her earlier...."

Road Home -> Home

Numbness and shock were quickly giving way to anger. At some point during Marcus's explanation, Roland had clenched his jaw shut and now he was grinding his teeth so hard he could practically hear it.

"I should have your head for that, you foolish child," he spat impulsively. "What you did was an act of purest betrayal. Betrayal to me, to Georg's memory, to Daniel, to your country, to yourself, and, more than anyone, to Natalie. Gods, Marcus, the woman is a widow now. They're two of our best friends and your sister killed one in cold blood and left the other sad and alone, a distraught mess. And you have the gall to ask me to...what? Forget all about that? Excuse her crimes, treat Silver differently from the rest of Lucrezia's goons, absolve her of her guilt? How would I be able to look Natalie in the eye if I did that? That is not justice. Absolutely not."

"Hear me well, Marcus Felis, and mark my words," said Roland with his voice of command. "You are not to go near that girl while we are on Earth. You will not ask me to excuse her crimes again. She will face the consequences of what she has done, just as her comrades and her mistress will. Their victims will have justice. Any further attempt to aid or abet her is treason and I will treat it as such, with all the punishment that entails. That is the final word on this matter; you will not speak of it to me again."

He did not wait for Marcus's assent. He started walking again, well ahead of Marcus, and proceeded alone, brooding in his own feelings of anger and betrayal. Anger at whom, he could not say. Silver, for being a murderous psychopath? Marcus, for betraying his trust? Ana, for her insubordinate attitude? Himself, for not having seen the truth of it all from the start? For not being able to do anything about it even if he had? For not killing Lucrezia when he had the chance and putting an end to all of this? He did not know.

When the two arrived home, Roland went straight to his room and closed the door without a word to the shifter. In his current mood, he did not trust himself not to say something he would not be able to take back later. He would need time to sort out his feelings about everything that the boy had told him before they spoke again. First Ana's childish temper tantrum, and now all this with Marcus, perhaps one of the only people he had believed he could trust and rely on unconditionally; why couldn't anything ever be simple and easy, he asked himself as he laid down in bed and tried unsuccsesfully to drift off to sleep.

Morgana didn’t so much as blink when the employee slid the change back to her, a couple thoughts running in her mind. The first was whether or not that was a normal reaction for a bystander and if so, did that mean her actions were a fitting response to the situation? The second was how oddly familiar the female dangling from the male’s back was. She had eyes that appeared unnatural for Earth and hair that had a shimmering moonlight glow to it: a silver.

She blinked. “I know someone whose name is spelled exactly like yours,” replied the brunette as she moved towards the part of the counter that rested in front of a doorway to the back.

Silver, the woman suddenly thought as she placed half the change into the courtesy jar, eyes lazily following the two figures until they became shadows of nothingness. Morgana chose not to follow the man even though he had said so, preferring to remain in the well-lit front portion of the building. It didn’t really seem appropriate for her to head to the back of the store, plus her mind had suddenly entered a strange nostalgic trance.

The monkey-like girl reminded her of the Silver she knew, who bore a nearly identical appearance. Their only differences were minor and things she’d assumed would happen to her allies once they’d passed the portal. Morgana’s appearance changed considerably, although she really only gained some color. If she were to guess, her current appearance would be what the real Morgana would look like if she hadn’t come to possess the body.

Interesting, was the word that popped into her head once the two returned, the silver-haired girl carrying a few cartons of eggs. Morgana handed the appropriate amount of money to Tannur. Before grabbing her purchase, which was no packed neatly into her shopping back, she turned to the other female.

“Excuse me. Would it be okay for me to know your name?” Morgana asked, her amber eyes flickering ever so slightly. There was a strange feeling in her gut, one that she’d never felt before. It was similar to the sensation she got before one of her wails, but it felt more… warm. In summary, it was foreign and uncomfortable and she knew it wouldn’t go away unless she asked.

"...I...Sir..." Marcus flinched back slightly as Roland began his ouburst, and looked sheepish. But that didn't dissuade him from trying again.
"My prince, here they try to rehabilitate people with issues like Scarlett's! Maybe we can try to do the same!" He started, but the other was already walking away. He tried to make the distinction obvious between the girl who he could almost swear was two separate entities. Scarlett, a sweet seven year old girl who once tried to fight a bear on her own and Silver... A teenage murderer.

He sighed, giving up all hope as he was completely ignored, then slowly made his way home. He spent the whole night lying awake, desperate thoughts and half-formed plans running through his head.
And so, by the time morning rolled around, he overslept by...Many hours.

Silver proudly handed the boxes over, then turned to look at Tannur with a bright grin. "See, I helped! And I didn't break anything, did I? Lady, you saw me helping, right? So I can eat now!"

She paused her - completely meaningless - chatter to stare at Morgana for a second, then shrugged. "You want my name? It's Silver! Silver Ferae! Uh...Why?"

That lie had been going on for so long it didn't even feel like a lie anymore. She remembered her birth name - the only thing of her childhood she did remmeber, aside from those little flashes of pictures and sensations... But when she said it, it felt alien. When she heard it, it made her stomach clench and her eyes water as some indescribable feeling of loss - even though she couldn't explain what that emotion was - hit her. And so, she didn't use her birth name, and hadn't told very many people of it.

"You want my name? It's Silver! Silver Ferae! Uh...Why?" The girl had replied.

A wave of shock and familiarization flooded Morgana's body. Her head spun slightly and there was a beating sensation in the back of her skill. She could feel her eyes burn as tears threatened to reveal themselves, but she fought it all back. It wasn't like her to undergo strange emotions and feelings, considering she'd locked the more caring side of her long ago. The last thing she did that was remotely kind was finding and taking in the silver-haired girl so many years ago, and that was only because she could see herself in Silver's eyes.

"Silver?" Morgana muttered, slightly out of breath. She returned the eggs to the counter and looked from Silver and the employee Tannur. Of course, that had to be the Tannur she knew. He just looked so different, with longer hair and a much more feminine appearance. Like her, however, he was much more youthful in the eyes but he had that mischievous twinkle she'd failed to recognize earlier.

"And Tannur." She stated, nodding towards the man who was likely baffled at her odd behavior. "This is all to perfect. It's me, Morgana. Or Margo, I suppose. My boss tells me the name 'Morgana' is not very likable due to some kind of famous story." Morgana truly found it hard to believe that she coincidentally found two of her allies. What really seemed impossible, however, was the feeling of relief and happiness creeping into her chest. She couldn't understand why she was feeling the way she was, but she did know that ever since she arrived to Earth, her emotions and thoughts often didn't feel like her own.

"Are you two getting by well? Have you found the others? Where is Lucrezia?" Morgana cringed internally at the name of their leader. She was Lucrezia's personal guard, yet she hadn't been able to find the woman at all. It honestly made the guard feel like a failure.

LISA+RAI'S FLAT

That evening, in their apartment - Lisa sat cross legged on the small, worn sofa with a half empty bowl of noodles balanced neatly on her lap. The flat itself was small and cramped, and wasn't really designed with two lodgers in mind (or even one, Lisa was certain) but was comfortable enough - especially after Rai and herself had spent a full weekend practically ransacking almost every charity shop within a two mile radius to make their home vaguely fit for occupation. The living room itself didn't have much within it apart from the battered second hand sofa, a small glass table and a ancient looking "CRT" Television that had the news warbling on in the background. Lisa paid little attention to the box in general, but would always watch the news whenever the opportunity arose with a frown and would always rise and shake her head after the programmed ended; though out of relief or disappointment it was hard to tell.

She glanced down at her bowl, and idly pushed around a few of the now-cold noodles with her fork. The shopping trip had been a modest success, though they had been rather unprepared for the viciousness of late-night bargain hunters - and most of the best deals had been snapped up before they even had a chance to grab a trolley. The pair had also rather different ways of approaching the task in hand - Lisa had worked methodically, inspecting every item that interested her with a discerning eye; taking her time to read the labels and descriptions and then cross referencing it with the other brands to ensure she was getting the best deal. Rai meanwhile, had thrown random items into the trolley with wanton abandon - collecting what simply caught his attention and then not giving it much thought after; that had turned out to be a blessing, as he hadn't noticed Lisa occasionally throwing his choices out when he wasn't looking. (A forty pack of AAA batteries and a DVD of "Thor" among them). They had managed to get some good deals on various fresh fruit, vegetables and meat thankfully - and while dinner was the same cheap noodles as ever, Rai had cooked some chicken as well, and stirred it in along with the noodles along with a few vegetables and spices. After living off of processed rubbish for so long - a few nutritional meals would do the pair of them a world of good. Lisa wrapped a few more noodles around her fork and slipped it into her mouth, and chewed thoughtfully.

"This really isn't half-bad Rai." She acknowledged finally. "I'm almost impressed honestly. I never saw you cook in Aether - do you have any other hidden skills I should know about?"
