It's a siege situation, so...I'm guessing the walls of this castle are completely surrounded by a massive army of humans, elves, and dwarves. The nearby port is likely blockaded by ships so no one can get out that way. Some distance from the walls, the light forces, outside of the range of arrows and mages from defenders on the walls, the light forces are probably camped around trebuchets, catapults, and mages of their own who can hit the walls from where they are with huge stones or magical blasts. The light army, as massive as it is, is also probably sending huge waves of soldiers at the walls with things like siege ladders or turtles that go over top of their heads so they can try scaling the walls. The shadow forces, for the most part, are probably holed up in their fortress, standing on the walls and on watchtowers along the walls trying to keep the light army from getting over/destroying their walls. They'll be firing arrows and magic at the people below with siege ladders and turtles. They'll also probably drop rocks and boulders on light forces that are already right at the walls trying to climb up or break a hole in the wall at the bottom. Boiling oil is not unknown in a circumstance like this either.

In this case, we also have some forces from the Church of Light who can fly, so they're probably using that ability to their full advantage, attacking the castle from above, trying to destroy towers and whatnot. Likely fighting whatever shadow forces have the ability to fly as well (gargoyles or something?) and preventing escape or resupply by means of flight. Probably also attacking people on the walls with no need to worry about the dangers of trying to climb over them or stand underneath them.

The goal of the attackers is to get past the walls or, if that's not possible, to prevent anyone inside from escaping or resupplying long enough to starve them out. The goal of the defenders is to keep the attackers out as long as possible.

That's the kind of scene I'm imagining for these armies.
 
He's somewhere in the back lines, watching all the siege action from afar. I'm writing a post where he uses a portal to secretly teleport himself and a select few of his closest comrades inside the walls, where they will try and sneak/fight their way to Lucrezia's throne room.

I can wait on that though if you're planning something.
 
Vast Majority of Lucrezia's forces have already left, it's more a skeleton crew right now.
 
You don't need much more than that to man walls in a siege, and the army outside wouldn't know she's gotten people out just by looking at what's defending them from outside.

Give the others a chance to post obviously but could start taking out Roland's men from behind or some such...
