Before the Worst

"No virgin drinks for you, buddy," Darren replied as the strong smell of chlorine reached his nose. Passing more locker rooms, he walked through the sliding door to the pool deck and tossed his towel in a chair. "Who knows, you might even get a little action tonight, if we can get you drunk enough..." he added, a grin creeping across his features as he pulled the goggles over his head.

"But, what if my knight isn't at the Ball? What then, Darren?" Evan asked, fixing the draw string on his shorts. "I just want that dream life...where I meet a guy and he is great, and accepts me--and everyone I love." He nudged Darren at that comment. Even if the boy probably wouldn't return his feelings, he would always be in Evan's life. That was a fact.

"Who wouldn't accept you? You're perfect," he retorted, sticking his tongue out at his friend. He backed up slowly, away from the edge of the pool. "Besides, the hard part is getting him to accept me!" He grinned before running forward and executing the perfect cannonball into the water.

Evan watched as Darren landed in the water. 'Perfect moves, as usual.' He thought before diving into the water himself. It was crisp and cool on his skin, giving him just the right amount of a rush so that he could think clearly.

Darren spied his weapon, swimming onward it before spinning around and smacking Evan in the back of the head with the noodle-as promised. He laughed, treading water as he gases at the ginger approvingly. "Feel better now?"

Evan smiled, brushing the hair out of his eyes. "Definitely." he answered, before splashing Darren in the face.

---

Forge gripped to them about it, but Evan kept his threat strong. He and Darren made their way to the club, with Ev donned in glorious looking wings. He was shirtless and revieving many glances, making him blush timidly.

"The moment of truth." he whispered to his friend, the makeshift wings fluttering as if in response.

"Damn," Darren muttered under his breath, unable to keep himself from admiring Evan and his wings. His eyes snapped back up, nearly caught staring. He blushed, running a hand through his hair as he pushed the unfamiliar observations out of his mind and grinned. "This is AWESOME." He said, grinning. "Now where's the bar? I'm not dancing sober."

"I'm not dancing at all." Evan laughed. They approached the doors and were let in almost instantly. The ease surprised him, thinking that he should have been booted and forgotten. The inside was all neon and color, with the deep bass of a song bouncing off the walls. Evan smiled, a feeling rising in his chest that was unknown to him. "Whoa." He whispered, eyes bright with excitement.

Darren agreed with him. Somehow, everyone inside seemed to glow neon...

"Hey," said a voice next to him, and he turned to face it. A woman stood next to a table with buckets of glowing liquid, and smiled up at him. "You guys want paint too?"she asked them, waving around a paintbrush. "You betcha," Darren said with a chuckle. He turned to Evan. "How about you?"

Evan looked at the paint for a second before nodding in agreement. "This ought to be fun!" He laughed as the woman handed him the container. As soon as she left, he had no trouble splattering his best friend's face. "You look good in that color." Ev smiled as he walked to the bar, innocently.

"Why you little-" Darren didn't even bother finishing his sentence before he too grabbed a container of glowing red paint and smearing it on to Evan's bare chest, smirking as he did so. "Now we're even, angel boy. And you are too dancing- even if I have to drag you on to the dance floor," he added playfully.

"Are you gonna dance with me?" Evan asked, reaching the bar. "2 Jagerbombs...what do you want Darry?" He asked, running his fingers through the wet paint on his chest.

"I'll have the same, but four of them," he said, snickering at the bartender's expression. He turned back to Evan, rubbing at some of the electric blue paint from his face. "Sure , why not. Just don't expect me to twerk," he laughed.

Evan watched as the bartender dropped the shots into the mugs of import beer, and he picked up two. After solidifying his will, he downed both in quick sucession. "Ugh, well...," he coughed after, "that wasn't so bad."

Darren raised a brow in amusement as he watched Evan struggle, having swallowed his own with ease. "Niceee..." He grinned at his friend, knowingly. "Burns doesn't it? Takes some getting used to." He signaled the bartender for another round.

"It smarts something fierce..." Evan giggled, downing the next two a little faster. He grabbed onto his friend's shoulder, hiccuping quietly. "So this is that drunk feeling....sweet." he laughed sheepishly.

"Drunk after four shots...I can't believe it," Darren mused. "Why do I get the feeling I'm going to have to carry you out if this club?" Besides the teasing, after eight of those shots he was buzzed himself. The lights were probably designed to keep people in that hazy state of mind...figures.

"What did you 'xpect?" Evan slurred, stumbling away from the bar. He tripped, landing in Darren's arms. The hard muscle was warm and comforting, causing Ev to nuzzle the crook of DC's neck. "I didn't think it'd be so...nice." he drawled, sucking on the skin beneath his ear.

"Um...Evan..?" Darren shifted uncomfortably in his seat. What was he doing? Unsure of how to respond, he stayed put, figuring it was a joke or something.

"Come on Darry-bear! Let's dance!" Evan yelled out, peeling away from the man. A little of the blue got smeared on his fave and Ev pulled Darren's arm toward the dance floor, where the most lights seemed to be.

Darren winced at the hideous nickname, but allowed himself to be dragged away from the bar to dance.

He recognized a bunch of students from the school, dancing in the crowd. It was like a living, breathing thing - it was intoxicating. Impossibly, the energy level seemed to spark as the DJ put on Skrillex, and Darren danced in time with the rest of them.

"BANGARANG!" Evan yelled, beung lifted up on the wave that was formed. He yelped and laughed at the feeling of paint being thrown on him and his white pants. "Whoooooo! Yeah!" He screamed out, being placed next to Darren. Hethen began the most provocative dance ever--on his best friend. Moving his hips to the beat, he got lost in the music. "Hey, Anna!" He called out, spotting her and Bobby.

Oh jeez.

Drunk Evan was a mess. A highly amusing mess, perhaps, but definitely a mess. Though he was glad his friend was having fun...a lot of fun. Looking toward the direction in which Evan had shouted, he too waved. Anna mouthed something at him when Ev wasn't looking, asking what the heck The redhead was doing. Darren shrugged, deciding to just go with it as the crowd carried them away again. Honestly, He had to admit that Evan's dance moves were kind of...well...hot. He shook his head. Or maybe it was just the song, making him crazy. Either way, he was enjoying it.

"Darren...!"

Evan turned and wrapped his arms around tthe taller boy's neck. "I have somethin' ta' tell ya." he whispered, backed by the courage of alcohol. The lights had dimmed down and a slower song began to play. The lyrics of Broken by Seether were mixed with a low, slow beat.

"Am I crazy for wanting my best friend?" Ev asked, a blush forming on his cheeks.

Darren's eyes widened and he froze, unsure he had heard Evan right. "What?" He said, confused. "Wait, you mean me?"
