"Pretty bad," Kesuk heard Shila mumble quietly, followed by a smile from Min. "Okay." she said, holding up a few of the things. "Here's a pinch. Try it; see how you like it." Kesuk gulped and peered at the spicy little things in the firebender's palm, nervous. He reached his hand up hesitantly and picked a few of the fire flakes from Min's hand.
He stared at them between his fingers, and sniffed them for good measure. His nose wrinkled up in unfamiliarity, but he wasn't about to back down now. He held the snack out to his mouth and shakily felt it open, revealing his tongue. He dropped the fire flakes into his mouth and started to chew quickly, hoping if he was fast enough, it wouldn't take effect.


He was wrong. He coughed, and his hand flew to his mouth. "What the heck?!" he cried, trying to swallow. He managed the feat, though now his mouth and throat were both burning. "That's only a few!" he choked out, before diverting his glance to Shila. "How many did you eat?!" He stuck his tongue out and clawed at it with both hands, hoping to remove the flavor.

"One."


Min Ra said: "I'll go get water. You water tribe folks are so unable to hold your heat."


She left, and Shila shrugged and told Kesuk: "The fire nation is somewhat infamous for spicy food, as I learned when I tried some of their cuisine."
