Hah!

The next post for Chapter Two will be up shortly. =)

Well, to be honest, we all walked into this one like a bunch of green noobs. I mean, seriously, how many employers of adventurers invite them to use their pool and explore their palatial wagon when that group is almost completely unknown? It might be expected if our names were known across the region or even the country, but a group of nobodies? Really, we were all more taken in by this than we should have been.

Captain Hesperus

Hey, I can't help it - I've got a negative wisdom modifier.

Otiorin thinks, "At least that would cause Bilal some pain at a profit lost."

I like the way Otiorin thinks. =)

Re: Otiorin's Bloodline Power. I won't hold what you're describing about Otiorin unless you want me to. If you want him to have fresh meat at certain times for the sake of good RP, then that's cool and creative. My dragons certainly eat freshly-killed meat, and on a regular basis. I wasn't going to add anything like that; I figure Otiorin has enough problems just being a Half-elf in our game. It does add yet another neat flavor to Otiorin, I think. =)

With Luna's Knowledge skills, can I make a Arcana roll or Nature roll to determine what Powerpaw is?

Well, I see it as a 'wild taint' in his blood. It's not as pronounced as is in a half-dragon, so he can pass off it off as a craving for very rare steak, once in a while.

Captain Hesperus

Cap. Re: 'Wild taint' and Otiorin's lineage. Sure! By the way, I know which of my silver dragons Otiorin comes from now. It isn't likely that anyone in Otiorin's Elven line knows, though. A dragon shape-shifting and mating with an elf is weird-enough as it is; it is very likely even the elf in question didn't know which of the silver dragons her mate was. Only that it was a 'he'.

Sparkle, on the other hand, knows this sort of thing without a doubt. Otiorin comes from Charmsring's line. Charmsring is as noble as they get, and lawful good-aligned (I am pointing out alignment, because dragons in my game don't always follow the alignment of their breed/color. There
have been good blue dragons; there have been true neutral green dragons, etc.). Charmsring is everything that little kids are told about good dragons in tales. He's brave, heroic, tremendously loyal, self-sacrificing - all that. And how Otiorin comes from Charmsring's line baffles the living daylights out of Sparkle (an opinion she has often voiced when Otiorin's lazy side comes out).

Sparkle doesn't have any problem with Otiorin's class choices; a person has to feed themselves after all, and what's a dragon that doesn't chase sparkly riches and piles of glittering gold? It is some of Otiorin's life choices that Sparkle finds crazy. Hanging out at brothels? Rolling about in bed in the morning until the party has to verbally kick him into action? Sparkle does not mean to judge Otiorin; she just wonders what the Gray Elves in his family were like that Otiorin wound up the way he is. Hee hee. =)

Sherwood. Re: Powerpaw's race and what Luna's training tells her. No clue! As far as Luna is concerned, he is brand-new to this side of the world! There are no tales of his people, and no studies (or even reports!) of a two-legged minotaur-sized feline race anywhere in any book she has ever read. Now, the world of Sharseya is broad and wide, but meeting Powerpaw goes only to prove that Luna has only seen so much of it. The closest thing Powerpaw seems to resemble are the terrible Rakshasa, the tiger-headed, medium-sized feline race from the 7th Plane of Hell (Stygia). And these creatures are tyrannically-evil (not to mention born-arcanists to the last, so Luna has read). There is no way a Ko monk like Bria would hug something like that.

Powerpaw is
far too large and muscular to be of that nasty race, and last you heard, steroids haven't been invented yet. So your training is crying and saying, "what the hell is he?!" Only one thing is for certain - Given all this, it is no wonder he is in Bilal's Menagerie...

EDIT: Oh, and no word of feline creatures anywhere with horns on their heads.

Otiorin has the Open/Close cantrip, so getting out of the cage won't be a huge issue.

Captain Hesperus

The cage fills the inside of the room (kind of like a steel roll cage inside of a race car. It prevents anyone from exiting the room because even hobbits are too small to fit between the bars. The bars cover the walls, floor, and ceiling.). The only barrier you have to worry about is the great door you entered in from, which appears to be the only thing standing in your way between you and the rest of the wagon.

Otiorin knows his Open/Close cantrip will have no effect on that door (he heard it being locked).

Re: Wolf Rawrrr. I realized recently - can you guys' imagine what ol' Wolfie is going to think when he reads all this? "I leave you for just a few days and look how you wind up! Wolf and Pecker to the rescue!" Except that under the way I use T.S., they would wind up in your position (as it isn't quite fair to say, "Poof! The party's suddenly joined by a fully-armed and armored teammate! You're virtually free already!").
Indeed. My thoughts exactly *howl*

Well the prince is gone, and the Wolf is back. I've just finished reading up on what I've missed and will get back into the action very soon

Hooray! Our Wolf has returned Awooooooo! 8D Welcome back, you. =)

@Wolf Rawrrr All. Re: Temporal Stasis ("T.S."). What do you think about this? Do you want to say that Leonard Wolf and Pecker were thrown in with the rest of the Grey Wardens? Wolf would be in the same exact situation as everyone else, and he could meet Powerpaw as the party is meeting him (as opposed to later).

I am so totally lost now. Where is our actual "In Play" forum thingie? I think I lost it somewheres...

I take no issue with finding my character in the exact shape and condition like the rest. He probably sampled the same wine that Bria did and that's that. As for Pecker though, I don't see how the falcon could have come under (or why it would be to anyone's interest that he does). He would still be perched on Wolf's gauntlet at the time of the incident, and thus the most likely scenario in my mind would be one where the bird flies off on his own when the ranger goes down. As to where he might have gone, that's entirely up to the Storyteller. Probably hid in a corner and stalked his master being dragged off, which would likely result in Pecker making an appearance soon.

Killfire - up at the top of this thread, to the left of it, you'll see an icon that looks like a house. (Below it is the list of subforums for our game.) Click on the house to return to the main Sharseya forum. (Alternately, at the bottom of the page you'll see Forums > Forum Roleplays > Dice Forum Roleplay List > Sharseya, and you can click on the word "Sharseya.") Scroll down past the stickied posts and you'll see the game and OOC threads. Chapter 1 has been finished and we're posting in Chapter 2 now.

Re: Pecker. I would agree, except I've got Bilal the Rich in my head saying, "We can say after I dealt with the Half-elf that my staff watched Wolf and Bria go down and Pecker try to escape. That's when I gave the little fiend some of this!" *pats his dragon-headed rod.*

And if that's the case, Pecker is safely with Wolf, tied up until someone freed him?

When Wolf succumbed to the poisoned wine, Pecker took wing in shock, only to be brought back to earth by a weighted net, artfully thrown by an athletic youth dressed in gladiatorial gear from an earlier age. The hunting bird struggled vainly to break free, but with each frenzied thrash, the net entangled him closer and closer. Eventually, he became too enmeshed to even consider moving and the young man carefully transferred him into a tough leather sack, tying the neck closely enough to prevent escape, but loose enough to allow air to enter.

"Excellent, Perdore,", Bilal smiled as he stroked Bria's hair, "now go get the guards to come and bind these two securely, while I go and deal with our new Half-Elf..."

Captain Hesperus

Cool idea, Cap, but do you guys really want me to throw a Gladiator into the mix on top of what Bilal the Rich has already got? Gladiators are already in the game (just ask Powerpaw), so I could roll one up if you want to go up against one. What say you guys?

It's up to you.

All. Re: Silent Perception checks. Since the start of this game, I have been rolling Perception checks for the whole party when they come up (Otiorin noticing Bilal coming down the hall while Otiorin was chatting with Sarissa is one example). I do this because I see it both as a time-saver (we don't have to wait for everyone to see a dice roll request, and then each player posts and rolls, and once all that's done, I post the results. That process alone will likely take a few Real Life days every time it comes up, and the story stops cold during the wait), and because asking PCs for a Perception check is a very clear way to warn them something they don't know about is out there (which nerfs any surprise in the storyline while possibly creating other issues, player paranoia among them - it's happened in my games). Plus, when they roll, they instantly know their result. Player sez, "Oh, I got a total of 25. No one else needs to bother to check since I rolled that high. Let's have them do something else while my character is searching."

As an example, would any of you been surprised if I had instead asked Sherwood and Kaerri to roll Perception checks for Luna and Kitrin to notice Bilal's attendant had locked them in that bedroom? I doubt it. The players would have suspected something was up the moment I asked for a roll. Players aren't stupid (well, most aren't. There's always an exception somewhere, and the same certainly goes for Storytellers, DMs, Referees, etc. =) ).

So, when Luna goes searching through the cage room for any clues, I would like to be the one making the roll for these reasons.

Is that O.K. with everyone?

I want you to have a say in this because I wish to respect my players, plus this is my first time Storytelling on RPNation. There may be a different way to go about it.

One more thing - This only applies to Perception checks. I can't think of any other skill at the moment where this applies. When you guys want your characters to use a skill, let me know here. If the skill is applicable (like Sherwood's request to use Luna's Knowledge skills to figure out what in the hell Powerpaw is), I'll most certainly allow a roll. And in some difficult cases, you might have to have a certain amount of ranks in a skill to do something (the "rank 5 house rule we chatted about earlier).

Storyteller's note: Due to the change in circumstances, Luna was allowed a second Perception check, this one with a lower difficulty. As they searched, she and Bria just so happened to roll the same number on each of their dice (I have a fiery red d20 for Luna and a sky-blue d20 for Bria at the moment). =)

EDIT: I still mean to ask though - Is this Perception check method O.K. with everyone?

I've no issue with the passive/silent Perception checks. On the contrary, I was under the impression that this was how it's done, and that the Storyteller is well within his rights to make them.

Hell, it's what I'd do - and that's regardless of anyone's opinion. Like you pointed out yourself, Dannigan, how are you supposed to launch a surprise if you're obliged to hint that they're coming? *bark*

Nah, he's not a real gladiator, just a cosplayer.

I like it - I think it works better this way than if the player is asked for a role. Like you said, it's much more easier to arrange surprises this way. And on the subject of paranoia...Kaerri has "no idea" what you're talking about... *says Kaerri with high irony*

I have no objection to how the Perception checks have been handled so far. My only wish is to find a way out of this friggin' cage and do some serious ass-whoopin!

Don't forget that one of Luna's Feats is Eschew Materials, so as long as the spell doesn't need some exotic material component, I don't need to worry about that.

@Captain Hesperus Otiorin now knows the custom-made reinforced wooden door has a Hardness of 6 with about 35 hit points.

All. Re: Hardness. Hardness represents an item's resistance to damage (if any). From the Pathfinder Core Book (p 173): "Each object has hardness-a number that represents how well it resists damage. When an object is damaged, subtract its hardness from the damage Only damage in excess of its hardness is deducted from the object's hit points."

@Sherwood Luna has the "Eschew Materials" feat. I don't think Luna has any spells with any material components costing over 1 gold. Does she?

All. Spell Components. Casters, unless you have the "Eschew Materials" feat, please place an item called "Spell Components" on your inventory sheet (or however you want to call it)? This pouch, bag, whatever, contains and covers all mundane and typical spell components that each of your characters need to cast their spells (and no, I'm not going to make the casters buy this sort of thing). Mind, any special or expensive spell components must be purchased (the Cleric's holy or unholy water and incense worth 500 gold to cast the Commune spell is a good example). Also note that in almost all cases, spell components are not used up when the spell is cast.

@Sherwood I don't feel the spell components are a matter of rarity; just a matter of cost (which may be exactly what you're saying). Or in other words, I'm not going to send you guys all over Sharseya looking for rare (or even uncommon) spell components. Can you imagine that?

Party: Dammit! We have to find and search
another bat cave to get bat guano! Can't you stock up or something?

Luna & Sparkle: Hey! Do you want these
Fireballs or don't you?
