Anything to save me from my natural ones and straight fails. Kaerri, you saw how long Oti's fight lasted simply because the dice didn't cut me a break....

Captain Hesperus

Ah. I'm afraid natural ones are still ones, GM says. I guess there has to be that chance of failure or we wouldn't have to roll the dice. But this should help against "not quite enough" misses.

And I totally agree on the dice not giving you a break. I mean, really, dice-roller, what the hey??

@Captain Hesperus That screaming sheep! "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!" That is hilarious!! And just what I needed after a heavy day of work, too. I had to listen to that several times, and I've tears in my eyes as I'm re-hearing it! Can I put three likes on that post?? "AAAAAAH!"

- Poor Otiorin busts his butt to fight this damned bard (who admittedly makes some big errors, but I let my own characters be themselves, and when they goof, I don't save them from it and unlike you, they don't get a "Your Character is in Mortal Danger" warning). =)

Otiorin comes real close to getting nailed by the poison-tipped darts the bard is using. I know darned well Otiorin's Fortitude save isn't that hot; he's a rogue/sorcerer for crying out loud. He can very easily fail it, especially with the way the virtual dice tend to treat our good Cap'n. If this had happened, the bard would have won! Period. He would have taken Otioirin and Bria and did what he pleased with them. No deux ex machina, no Wolf and Luna appearing out of nowhere to save the day, none of that. Otiorin would have been this guy's bitch, and more woe still for beloved Bria.

I would have hated to RP it, but I would have. That's part of the challenge of roleplaying for me - sometimes things happen that even I don't like, and I made Sharseya! But I'm digressing...

So here's Otiorin going through this duel that is getting more-and-more vicious by the round as each of these intelligent and cunning characters start to figure each other out (just like a real fight). Thank goodness, Otiorin wins it and saves Bria (who fell right for the damned bard's trick. He caught her totally by surprise, no dexterity bonus to AC, shield down, and thunk goes the dart. And you guys have got to have guessed by now that Fortitude isn't exactly Bria's highest saving throw...).

Otiorin makes it back to the wagon. Corellon knows what's behind him in the dark. Bren's wracking his brain trying to figure out a solution (Bria is the sole healer in your party; the best qualified to fix this mess, except she's the mess). And here's our man, Otiorin with the one item that just might have a solution to helping her, and the damned thing blows up in his face when he rolls that 1.

I would have screamed too.

One more thing. Remember when I said sometimes things happen that even I don't like? I had plans for what was in that book - but to be fair, the damned bard "told me" what he had done with it and why it possessed a leather strap. And I thought, "Yep. That's fair. It's in." So the result is - his plans and mine go up in smoke. But that's the way it is sometimes - and that's O.K. That's the way I like Sharseya to run. =)

@All. O.K. Kaerri is correct on most things, but not quite all. Here is a correction:

Kaerri sez,

In the past, the bonus from AP has counted towards the natural roll, so if Dann is still working it that way, an 18 on the die followed by 2 on the AP would indeed count as a natural 20. (We've had some "natural" 21s and 22s that way as well!)
Sorry, I am not working it that way any longer. However, I am allowing Action Points to be used after you roll your d20 - this was not the case in our tabletop game (you called your use of an action point, and it was spent, regardless if you rolled 1 or a 20).

On that note, I must stress that with this system (though it was mentioned by Kaerri), an Action Point cannot save you if you roll a natural 1, but neither is it wasted if you declare you want to use an Action Point prior to your roll, and then your roll comes up natural 20. The whole rolling after you see the d20 thing to me is a big advantage over declaring prior to the roll (and thereby possibly wasting the precious Action Point). To balance that out, Action Points do not add to the "natural" roll. Besides, this game we're playing now is a little less deadly than the one we were involved with on tabletop and doesn't need it.

Other questions:

Do the bad guys have Action Points? Only in very rare instances.

Do I mind the extra paperwork. No. As a matter of fact, I was used to using it on our tabletop game and I kind of miss it.

Ok. Good to know. I still have no objections to the use of APs for the game.

The offer is still open if anyone else wants to see Cap'n's duel in the Conversation.

Sherwood: Thanks for providing your thoughts on the matter. =)

@Captain Hesperus @killfire Your votes on whether or not Wanderer NPCs should have Action Points?

@Cap'n. It's over an hour later... and I'm still laughing whenever the memory of that video you posted pops in my head. =)

lol Dann, you don't have to repeatedly apologize for making the game fun *howl*

none of us here are normal people I think, so no worries ( :P )

Well... the apologies aren't for the introduction of Action Points, but rather for not supplying what some might see as their full benefit, plus there's another reason too. I find myself watching closely what I write (as text-based communication can be easily misunderstood, even among friends). When I say, "no" to something, I do not want to come across as authoritarian (even if I am the storyteller and have that right).

Some GMs do that (the power-trippers, whom I can't stand). I suppose apologizing like that is my way of making certain I, in no way, come across like that.

Then again, by now, all of you know how I operate and I shouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for pointing this out, Wolfie. I think you've made me realize a little something about myself. =)

Dann sez,

Just then, Stewart takes up his trumpet and blares it in an unmistakable signal of warning. Then he turns to Bren as if offering explanation. His momentarily-irritated tone seems like one brought on by the memory of his words: "Standard procedure? There was no such thing. Bilal used to blow this trumpet to call me whenever he fine well pleased..."
I want to share with you something I find amusing in Stewart's character. Not only is Stewart irritated at the memory of Bilal blowing that trumpet to summon him for the slightest whim ("I can't find my pen! Stewart, where is my pen?!" is a humorous example Kaerri made), but Stewart is doubly irritated when he realizes that not only was Bilal quite annoying when he was alive, but now he's still capable of being so even from the grave! Ha ha! =)

Dann, the few times that you have told me 'no' on something in this game, you have had a good reason for it. As a player, I always want more for my character, either a new Feat or a spell that you have cause to nix for some reason, and as a ST, I see it from the other side of the equation. I have no complaints on the game.

So apparently, the site decided I didn't want updates to this game. However I taught it the error of its ways and now I've posted.

Captain Hesperus

You need to be as OCD as I am about checking games for new posts. That way, you never miss out. ( :) )

@Captain Hesperus, @Sherwood - saw this and thought of you.

Hahaha. You guys make me laugh. I like them both.

Hey @Kaerri, did you see that Luna sent Bren a message in my last post?

And I was waiting on Dannigan to re-introduce Wolf (and Luna) because of the time difference *woof*

Someday I'm gonna get my cat Puky an armor set like that. I bet he'd just love it *rawrrr*

hey look what I found while googling for cat armor:

Actually, Wolf is right (and I had come to this conclusion prior to reading his post). Luna and Wolf just ran "not over two miles" through dense forest, at night; they should not be near the Adventurers' Wagon so very quickly after hearing Stewart's trumpet. Only a flying creature could make it there that fast (*insert flying Wolf and Luna jokes and pics here*).

I will let you know when they get there. Until then, please consider them moving as rapidly and as safely along as they can on their enchanted footwear. =)

Ok, I'll send my Message spell once we are within range, then.

That is just fine. Real Life has thrown yet another curve ball at me and I hope to reply in full tomorrow. Until then, I just want to tell you guys and gal that I really feel lucky to be role-playing with you. If there is one thing I can do, I can appreciate what Life throws at me. At one time or another, it has thrown me each of you. Like a country fellow I am fond of likes to say...

"Ah appreciate ya!"

Honor and fun,

Dann =)

Ladies and Gents, I would like to make a comment toward the performance of our GM. We had a little discussion about the feasibility of Bronze building a shower. At first Danni was against it, but here is what is cool about D, and Sherwood and I have seen this many a time. If you present a proper argument, showing facts, staying within the realms of the environment/setting he listens, he doesn't always agree, but he does listens, and this is a big one, he never says "no" outright. More like, "do you really thing that fits in this kind of setting", and if you can show that it does fit, he usually goes with it. There have been 3 GM's that I have played that way, and all 3 are here. Sorry would take too much money for me to return to my beloved Battletech. And I think the new versions are just, not right.

Thanks, Killfire! =)

I need the following folks to roll the following dice or skill checks, please:

@Sherwood Perception

@Wolf Rawrrr Tracking (to include Leonard's +2 Ranger bonus for forest climate)

@Captain Hesperus 3d20, no modifiers

@Kaerri 3d20, no modifiers

No rolls are needed for Bronze unless he is answering Otiorin's call. Cap'n sez,

...Ah!", he shouted loudly, "BRONZE! Could you and the hobbits catch up a second? And bring your weapon, please."
