Oh, I'm speaking up. While I definitely approve of this approach towards your happiness as a human being and roleplayer, good Killfire, there's a guideline that has served me well for a long time: "It's only fun if everyone's having fun."
After a lot of thought about this, I think I have narrowed some thoughts down:
1. It really depends on how you go about doing this. Kaerri has an excellent point - I can't tell you what Koshianth would do if your character just ran up and smacked her with a pillow. She might think it's cute; she might turn Bronze into a frog (she's not in my head right now, or she'd tell me). As long as you are willing to deal with the possible consequences, you can certainly go after the benefits.
2. I am not O.K. with this if it (or anyone's behavior) changes the tone or course of our game. I know that's not your intent - you just want to have fun - I just can't promise everyone else will think it's fun too. So... I was thinking...
3. What about a single, but serious change in character concept? What if, instead of a human being, Bronze was a special talking rabbit? Sounds crazy, right?
Here are some ideas: Your character will become truly harmless. This means your character couldn't cause damage to anything if he wanted to. However, other creatures realize this and see your character as absolutely no threat whatsoever. Therefore, your character could haul off with a pillow and smack away without being considered a threat. This comes with the understanding that your cannot take unreasonable advantages ("Hey! No one thinks I'm a threat, so I walk into that brigand camp and bring back all of their gold!").
However, I see a drawback. Remember how Bronze was protecting the Meadowsweets? That wouldn't be a possibility anymore. What is a possibility is the idea that he could be silly, cuddly, fluffy, what-have-you when you wanted him to be and most of my characters would see him as much. I, of course, cannot speak for characters not my own. Bronze would still be able to forge and craft somehow, but I don't see him pulling a cart anywhere. Maybe, because he's a rabbit, he can talk to a horse that pulls said cart (gaining a Speak with Animals ability at the cost of opposable digits, etc.). Of course, Wolf would have to teach Pecker not to attack you, and so forth. Whatever the case, I'm just tossing ideas around in hopes of finding something everyone is all right with (back to the "It's only fun if everyone's having fun" guideline). =)
As for the slowdown... In Real Life, today was my last day at my old department. I have transferred within the company to return to something I enjoy doing. Something less stressful, less busy, but equally rewarding. It is time for me to dream a little more, and kill myself at work a little less. =)
Thoughts, everyone?
