While writing the scene today, I came across this picture and laughed out loud!  =)

I have witnessed and read about this sort of struggle between party members for a long time and this picture does the situation justice!  And just look at the expression of the fellow in the middle!  Hah!

Huh!  I came across this picture too.  Hey, Sherwood!  See the name on her thigh?  =)

A fire sorceress, like our fire wizard Luna, as drawn by an artist named "Lina"?  Neat!

I feel this way about music.  Music really helps me create, and therefore, write.  =)

Dannigan that's Lina, a hero from Dota 2 (link)

She was my favorite thing to play for those 50+ hours I spent in that game *woof*

Despite all of Nivirea's formidable education in nature and the creatures that make up the natural world, nothing in her mind knew of these giant humanoid cats that now examined her with, well, cat-like curiosity.  As if meeting a half-elf and seeing the pseudo-dragon on Luna's shoulder were not rare enough occurrences, these cat-creatures did not exist in any work of mythology, animal study, monster lore, or any other story or study she had ever come across.  This adventuring party was also unknown to her.  While adventuring parties came and went in Summerset, she would have certainly heard of one that was made up of such a wide variety of people as these.

If this was all for me, you shouldn't have. I'm sorry if I didn't state enough just how confused, surprised, and amazed she was at the sight of all those things, but I do keep it in mind. All things in their time. I had to outline a somewhat broader picture first, since everything jumped her at the same time, but once she focuses on each of those things in turn, she'll be properly clueless. My post can only be so long and complex before it gets too bogged down in the details and too lengthy. I forget nothing *woof*

The only thing that I wasn't sure of is how obvious Otiorin's race is. Would most people look at him and be able to tell that he's a half-elf? I tried going into the character sheet for help but even if it was readable I'm not sure that Captain went to great lengths to physically describe his character. I think I looked before.

Oh!  And here I was thinking...  Thanks, Wolf!  =)

If this was all for me, you shouldn't have.

The short answer: Actually, I wrote all that out for myself and for reasons of my hyperkinetic disorder.

The long answer: I write things like that out solely to help me to remember that Nivirea is not Leonard and to remind me that Leonard's story for the moment has stopped and Nivirea's has just begun.  As your friendly neighborhood DM, it's part of my duty to keep the NPCs and story as straight as I can.  It not only helps me keep things straight, it also helps me cement certain ideas into my head for later use.  So why do I need this?

For one thing, this overactive imagination of mine often comes up with not one but several often very different outcomes for, say, a scene like the one we're in now.  Sounds pretty handy, right?  Well it is until I get those scenes mixed up and having visualized them all in my head, I cannot remember which of those outcomes I decided on (or even wrote!).  Oh noes!  HAAALP!  =)

So before I set myself in the proper mindset to post in-game, I nearly always go back through the last few posts (starting with mine) and reread everything carefully.  I read nearly all in-game posts at least twice - once for the sake of enjoyment when we first post them and again later before I post again to make certain I have all my facts fresh and straight and my ideas in order.  Sure, this might sound tedious, but given how easily it is for me to get distracted and derailed, it is my writing things like that that helps me a great deal.

It's kind of like I'm writing to myself, "Hey, Dann!  Remember, Wolf is not playing Leonard anymore!  Remember that this new character is new, so don't have the NPCs treat her like they would Leonard!  Furthermore, Nivi has never seen a Felane and has no background whatsoever concerning them (unlike other characters), plus remember that neither Powerpaw nor Mamapaw have ever seen a person who looks like Nivi as there are no Fey in Shamballah!"

So... sure it might sound a little dumb when other people read it ("Hey, Dann, isn't what you wrote a little obvious?") but without that, I might really screw up a story later.  Over the years, it's happened a handful of times in tabletop where the story the players know isn't the story I wrote the week before.  Yikes!   I get pretty embarrassed on those rare occasions because it means my hyperkinectivity got the better of me that day and now I have to go about picking up the pieces and figuring out what's real and what's imagined.  But it's a small price to pay for all the fun I have, especially here on RpN where everything's written out and easy to look up! =)

Alright, that's sound procedure there. I just thought to reassure you in case you were worried that I might be forgetting things *woof*

Funny how at first, second, and third glance I still thought it was all about me, right? Well guess where Nivirea inherited her center-of-attention trait from *rawrrr*

And speaking of distractions, I almost forgot to address this!

With her education (Knowledge: Nature especially) and background (Fey-blooded, raised in and around Summerset), Nivirea would know right off Otiorin was a rare half-elf.  As for most people, that really depends on where you are at the moment.  Folks in Summerset have likely seen Elves (from The Forest Eternal and Waterwind as they come through), but folks in say, Highwind, can easily mistake Otiorin for a real elf (there are no Elven settlements anywhere near Highwind).

Ha ha!  Well, I like to think that each character that we as players and DM make has a little of ourselves in them.  That's what makes them special.  Really!  For example, I couldn't create someone like Meric in your Amaranth game - I don't have the right mix of personality traits that you do to make someone exactly like him.  Similar?  Sure.  But bullseye-perfect?  No way.  This is one of the big reasons I don't feel comfortable taking over anyone else's character for gameplay.

Question @Dannigan dunno if you missed it, but Oti activated his Draconic Sight to look Nivirea over. Any chance of a response to that?

Captain Hesperus

No, I didn't miss it; I forgot about it entirely (hooray for ADHD and distractions!  Woooo!).  Then I remember this morning and when I did, I also remembered that Dragon-sight, much like the Detect Magic cantriptakes many moments (18 seconds to be exact) to get the fullest use out of it.  It is an element I'll be adding when I post about it later today; as for now, I'm responding to Sherwood's Tales of the RDF game.

Thanks for mentioning it, though.  When your Dungeon Master is hyperkinetic, there is no telling what is in or is not in his head at any given moment!  Hah!   =)

@Sherwood - Just to confirm: Luna is talking to Nivirea, right? You didn't specify which spellcaster, and the elf is standing right there... somewhere, I think *woof*

I'm so glad you brought that up, Wolf - I wasn't sure if it was Nivirea or Shalin.  =)

I went ahead and edited my post to include Nivirea's name specifically. Again, I'm sorry for the confusion.

Cap'n sez, " He rose to his feet and offered a polite bow. He was, after all, a cultured gentleman schooled in the finest of Elven etiquette. Shame he'd only attended to half the lessons..."

Happy Turkey Day tomorrow, everyone (if you celebrate Thanksgiving)!  =)

Heya folks!  Due to an outage, our ISP says we will not likely have home-based Internet until probably Saturday.  Will post by phone as able.

Ahhh...  It's so nice to have home-based Internet back again!  Now, it's better than before.  Hooray for that!  =)

Dann, I know you really want it to be Wayfaring Wanderers (subconsciously at least), but it was and still is Wayward Wanderers!  :smile9:

Unless there was some kind of council meeting that I was not invited to *woof*

I can't remember if I told you this or not, but part of the reason why I made that suggestion was to honor the Wayward Inn, which was this community's original name back when I joined in 2012. Ah, the halcyon days...

The name is being wayward!  I can never remember myself ^;3^

don't want it to be anything except what you, the players, want it to be; that doesn't mean whatever you choose is going to stick in my head!  =)

Wayward, wayward, wayward...

EDIT: Thanks for the reminder, Wolf!  =)

Alright, alright. I didn't mean to say that you wanted it wanted it, was just being playful *woof*

Anyone remember this?

Remember the smiley-faces at the end of my sentences and you'll see I didn't mean anything negative either.  =)

Darned text-based communication; I'm still spoiled by years of tabletop gaming when tone and body language are ever there to show folks just what you mean.  Emoticons only go so far!

As for the "banner" you created, I remember that quite well!  You make really nifty things!  =)
