At the Adventurers' Table: Chapter Fifteen

The Command An Animal action falls under the Nature skill (it includes riding and pretty much anything animal-related, as I recall), which is Wisdom-based.

You mean, Scamp, the Honey Badger Grit's riding? 8D Dexterity!

And making those odds into evens works nicely!

No Feats give Ability Bonuses in Sharseya that I'm aware of. Again, most of what we're using is out of the Pathfinder Core Book, Feats included.

To be precise - Wisdom will help Grit with Handle Animal Skill. Dexterity is what he'll need for his Reflex Saving Throw if he somehow has to roll to stay in the saddle. (Say, if Scamp's in a Rage and flying down a staircase after a bad guy or the like.) =)

EDIT: And by Handle Animal skill, I mean the Nature skill (where it now falls under). Whoops!

EDIT #2: I'm having a wonky night! =)

That's the thing about badger riding. You got to be stupid or crazy to try, and the biggest part of it is holding on as it goes full Taz.

Alright. I'll start looking. I think there are a few mounted feats, but not sure if they are core or not. The sites don't obviously differentiate. I'll count up my feats and pick some out.

Lol at least I'm not negative in it. And Proficiencies will help there, i think.

Hah! A parallel between the Tazmanian Devil and Scamp! Well done! I can imagine those two would get along (and if they didn't, watch out world). =)

For Skills, we are using only one site and that's the Archives of Nethys. Remember that we're using Pathfinder 2.0's Skills with a House-ruled Skill Point system from Pathfinder 1.0. Descriptions are all in Shop Talk. Let me know if you have questions. =)

Only 7? That seems pretty light to me for a 12th level Fighter. Let's do a little math here.

12th level Character Feats (1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, and 11th) = 6 Character Feats.
12th level Class Feats as Fighter (1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 12th) = 7 Fighter bonus Feats.

Grit has 13 Feats total. =)

13! Holy shit!

I clearly didn't think of the difference between character and class levels.

Well now. I got a lot to decide. Am taking recommendations btw!

If you look at the Archives of Nethys website (the one Dann linked), when you click on the feats to read the full description it will say where the feat comes from. For example, in the below screenshot, the first half of the description would apply in Sharseya because it's in the core rulebook, but the second half would not because it's from a different book.

Yeah. Mind you, the 7 bonus Fighter Feats must be Combat Feats. The following list of goodies I'm about to recommend are all Combat Feats.

You won't need Precise Shot (because I've taken that Feat out of the game). If you're going crossbow, I highly recommend Rapid Reload and Point Blank
Shot at the very least. Toughness is very nice for Hit Points (basically 1 Hit Point/level at every level). For anyone serious into riding a Giant Honey Badger into combat, the Mounted Combat Feat is a must as is Mounted Archery if you plan on shooting while mounted. Ride-By Attack is a cool Feat if you're into hit-and-run tactics. Spirited Charge rocks if you're using a melee weapon. Intimidating Prowess is nice if you'd like to add Grit's Strength to his Intimidate rolls in addition to his Charisma. Quick Draw is cool because you can draw one weapon as a Free Action. =)

Also Critical Focus and Improved Critical (weapon type) are very nice additions (as just about everything in my game can be critically hit and combatants don't roll to Confirm Critical Hits). Any of the "x Critical" Feats are fun to have too.

Recommended non-combat Feats include:
Iron Will is nice if you'd like Grit to have a higher Will Saving Throw (and if it's in-character to have an iron will); Improved Iron Will is even cooler. Social Skill Feats (like Skill Focus or Persuasive) might help him in his line of duty as a guard. Alertness is always nice and Endurance + Diehard can make for a hard-to-kill character of any Class.

Fighters in Sharseya have high Fortitude and Reflex Saving Throws, so Iron Will helps to bridge the gap if you like high Saving Throws. Fighters also have more Skill Points (4/level instead of 2) in Sharseya.

Those are just off of the top of my head. Anyone else have any recommendations for a honey badger-riding, Kobold Fighter?

I recommend first finding the feats you think will help your riding (should be something for Nature; Skill Focus if nothing else!), because as a fighter you're going to have a lot of combat feat slots, not as many non-combat slots, so I think it's better to pick out your non-combat favorites first to make sure there's room for them.

After that, maybe pick a type of combat to specialize in? Not a weapon specialization as such, but a style of fighting that suits Grit. My first character in RpN Sharseya, Kitrin, was built around mage harassment, and had a number of feats to help her interrupt, stay in range, and generally be annoying. (halfling fighter ftw!) Bren as a fighter/ranger was focused around getting the Whirlwind attack feat, which at the time had a lot of prereqs that had to be taken in a particular order because some of them were prereqs for each other, so knowing I was going for that helped me know what feats he would take at what time. Kaerri, on the other hand, is much more skill-based than combat-based, so her combat-related feats are aimed at improving her defenses. I've also created, but never played, a swashbuckling rogue/fighter who was all about dexterity and style, and took feats that let her do cool rapier tricks.

Well I do love critical hits! So anything that makes that better is boon. Especially of it increases the crit rate.

And yes, with a relatively low wisdom score, I would need to focus on skill feats. I think o saw an animal handling feat somewhere. But definitely need to stock up on a few of those.

As for fighting style! Well I suppose that his main thing is fighting from the mount. Specifically that of range while Scamp tears into foes. Putting out arrows at short to medium range to harry and aid rather than being a super sniper.

I also see him being as more mobility focused. Doing lots of climbing, jumping, scrambling, and scurrying. Finding good positions to shoot from, dodging between legs, hiding under tables, etc. Generally being a nuisance.

Being generally mounted, he wouldnt have much opportunity to use melee weapons unless they have reach. However he can't always be mounted. He still, however, would want to keep his distance. Things with reach and finesse aren't that common, so I would need to search to look for those. But I could see him using something like a spiked chain or whip kind of thing. Or a sickle and chain if im feeling daring. Supporting his allies in melee, tripping and disarming.

I have also always liked stacking passives and the like over gathering a bunch of active attack moves.

I'm glad you chose Fighter then. If any Class has options, it's Fighter. =)

Yeah, but a fighter can't blow shit up with a well placed fireball. That is strictly a wizard thing!

Sigh. I am off tonight. Then again, I've been feeling "off" all day.

D. Rex D. Rex First off, I screwed up on rolling dice for Grit's Ability Scores. I thought the page we used for our starting Ability Scores (back in 2014) was lost. I was mistaken; Kaerri recovered it years ago and it's right there on my Character Creation Guide. I rolled rather well on the yellow dice, higher than what is listed of the 6 options. So... I've decided to let you keep those rolls and change my Character Creation Guide (which needs updating).

Furthermore, I mentioned Critical Focus, a Feat I've taken out of the game. It's been so long since anyone's rolled up a character in here, I'm thrown off! Oh well! C'est la vie! ("Such is life!" or "That's life!").

While these are behind-the-screen goofs, they're goofs nonetheless. Sorry about that! =)

Psychie Psychie You've been playing an Arcane Archer and Fighter all this time. Do you have any recommendations you'd like to pass on to D.? =)

I wasn't saying they could, you goofball! =) By the way, I was enjoying your Status Updates for all the puns again. Thanks for keeping that going, Sherwood Sherwood !

He's got a point. I don't remember the last time you guys told Oreleth or Powerpaw they couldn't do something they really wanted to do. =)

Yo! I don't mind rolling stats again. Sure they will probably end up worse. But I'm all about playing fair when I can!

And maybe I will see about getting one of those Sickle and chain weapons. Cause what's better than a bolt slinging, badger riding kobold?

One that's also a ninja.
