Auto hits means that you guys are hitting each other and saying that the hits landed. When it comes to combat you are supposed to let the receiving party decide whether the strike connected or not. Your strikes are only supposed to be attempts not guaranteed strikes. When you say, "Roger punches Harry and knocks him out in one hit." That's auto hitting. It's basically what you both are doing.
