Futuristic ARK: Survival of the Fittest (Closed)

"Alrighty," Anna nodded, "Roan, get something to eat and gear up." She looked at Jack, "You too."

Roan nodded and got himself some breakfast before collecting some gear for the trip.

Janus couldn't carry as much as Jack would have liked, so he was down to just his waterskin, some cooked meat, his clothes, hatchet, pick, and crossbow, but not as many arrows as he'd like, with no tranq arrows. Anna waited by the gate with her pike and Occisor. Once they found a place with metal, they could run back, get Manny, Figaro, Hardhead, and Dummy, and gather as much as they could.

Roan decided on sticking with his raptor for now, carrying his usual supplies, "Let's try up the mountain."

"Which one?", Anna pointed to the three mountains they could see from the camp. There was one in the snow biome, the volcano, and a large hill that might have been a mountain just a bit further inland from the camp.

"That one," He said, pointing to the volcano, "Looks bare so there might be more metal than vegetation. "

"We're gonna be out for a while," Jack shrugged.

"Well let's get started," Anna moved their speedy mounts to the gate while Jack pushed it open, letting them pass before closing it behind them.

"Remember, this is just scouting," Jack reminded the two, "We're looking for where metal might be, we're not mining any right now."

Going along the river and running, they were able to dodge most dangers along the way. Unfortunately, they also couldn't deal with larger predators like rexes and allos.

When the group finally had to stop, thanks to a rex in their path, Roan looked at the others, "Any ideas?"

"Uh," Anna looked around, "I don't think we can take that on."

"No shit," jack muttered, "Can we go around?"

"We might be able to," Roan said and looked around. There was a heavily wooded area that would conceal them long enough to pass by.

Whatever might have been hiding in the woods they could probably outrun much easier than they could fight a rex. "Looks like we're bringing the spino too, next time," Anna said as they started in that direction to pass the great beast without getting its attention.

"Definitely," Roan said quietly as they made their way around the beast, "That thing is probably lethal.."

"You think? Wasn't that was you and the spino fought?", Jack asked. Carefully and sneakily, they made their way past the rex and continued up the river.

"Yea, it is," Roan answered, "Imagine if we had one. Im not saying i wanna tame it, but nothing would be able to hurt us."

"Maybe later," Jack seemed to be considering that, "But we can worry about that once all other bases are covered." At the moment, all of their tames were utility. Sure a massive beast like that rex would be amazing, but it would take a while to tame, and without a trap they'd be out here and at the mercy of whatever else appeared to attack them. It was also massive enough that they wouldn't be able to get it through the gate, and the behemoth gate was very resource-intensive.

"We'll figure out how to get a rex eventually," Anna nodded, "Let's just find metal." Eventually they came to base of the volcano, which was littered with metal ore nodes, rich and poor, stone, and shiny black rocks, as well as sabercats and giant scorpions.

"That is a lot of metal," Roan said, looking around the place, "We could make several trips."

"Think the argies will be good for it?", Anna asked, "Depending on what they can carry, we could fly right over the rex and all the animals."

"We could do that, yeah," Jack nodded, "But I'll need keratin to make the pteranodon saddles for them. And if they can hold a lot of metal and stuff, I'd probably be able to ride one." That would make it easier to get to and from this area and transport goods in the future, if it were possible.

"Thats an idea, actually." Roan said, "I wonder how well they carry weight."

"We'll figure that out later," Jack marked the spot and route on his map, "Let's head back and figure out a plan."

"Sounds good," Anna agreed, turning Occisor around, "You guys ready?" As they were turning around, the light beacon from a purple supply crate appeared between the three of them.

"Let's get this first."

Roan got off his raptor, walking up to the beacon, getting into the supply crate and taking the contents into his own inventory. He turned, returning to the raptor, "Lets go."

The supply crate had an orange ring floating around it when it landed, and there was only one item in its inventory when Roan mashed the 'transfer all' button in the menu. He didn't realize it at the moment, but forming around his neck as raptors and wolf ran back to the camp was what looked like another, smaller implant, on a cord made of an odd, dark bluematerial that seemed to shimmer, but if looked at more closely it appeared to be made of hexagons constantly merging and unmerging into more efficient geometric patterns.

Since they knew the way back and weren't searching for anything, they could avoid dangers by just continuing to run as fast as they could. It was still early afternoon when they got back.

Once they had returned to their base, Roan took notice of this new item, "What... it this?"

"What do you mean?", Anna looked over, then frowned and looked down at her wrist, "How'd you take your implant out?"

"Why did you take your implant out?", Jack added.
