Aquatic Discovery

Aria nodded "Yes... Thank you." She felt completely helpless on the land, not being able to move around like she would in the water. Just one of the drawbacks of being a Mermaid, really. At least she could move quickly once in the water, though.

She gently slid a hand under Aria's tail and torso, then headed her up. To her surprise, she was surprisingly light. She blistered the mermaid into the tank, then leaned back and yawned a little bit.

Aria angled herself upright and faced Acacia once she entered the water "Is everything okay? I noticed you keep yawning..." She asked, a bit worried.

Acacia leaned down, "it's nothing. Do you mind if I get in the tank with you?"

((I'm setting this a bit in the future, maybe 2065, so they have a device they put on their gums so they can breathe and speak under water, is that okay?))

(Sure, thanks for letting me know.)

Aria tilted her head "I guess not... How are you going to do that?" She asked. She didn't think Humans could breathe under the water, since she hadn't seen any in the ocean.

She got what looked like a plastic set or teeth. She slid them over her own and then smiled, "scientists developed this a few years ago. It lets us swim and breathe under water." She stripped and put on a wetsuit, then dove in.

Aria's eyes widened as Acacia explained this. So they found a way to breathe under the water? That was amazing, to her. She was even more surprised when the girl jumped into the tank, and the device actually seemed to work. Aria circled around her several times, in silent awe of all of this.

Smiling, acacia swam down until he feet hit the floor. She smiled and hit a button on her wrist pad, now projecting her voice so she could be heard. She smiled, "it's not perfect yet, but it still allows us to go a few hundred feet down."

"That's amazing..." Aria replied "How does that-... Actually, nevermind." She wanted to ask how the device worked, but judging by their previous conversation she realized she probably wouldn't understand anything Acacia could answer with. Still, it was incredible, and knowing it exists and seeing it work made Aria start to reconsider what she thought Humanity was. If they could do something like this... Who knows what else they're capable of? She was starting to understand why Humans were the most prominent race everywhere she looked.

Acacia smiled and swam up to her, reaching her hand out and taking Aria's hand. She smiled and stroked it, "It's an interesting feeling to be underwater. I'm not very good at swimming though." She chuckled, yawning heavily and then spinning around Aria, noting how her tail moved and shook. She made mental notes about the movings, muscles, and other things that could be useful.

Aria laughed a little along with Acacia "I'd offer to teach you, but you don't have a tail like I do... Sorry." She told her, staying still while Acacia presumably examined her again.

Acacia smiled widely and yawned a little bit, rubbing her eyes to get her water out. She looked down, "Gah, I haven't been able to get much sleep. So tell me more abotu yourslef, Aria!"

"About me? Well..." She started, figuring the best way to start would be to tell Acacia about things she liked to do "I like to swim around the ocean sometimes, seeing how fast I can go... I also come up to the surface occasionally and enjoy the sunlight. That's one of my favorite things to do." She told her, with a smile "Oh, and I also like to sing, but I'm not really that good... Compared to the others, anyway."

She smiled a little bit and kept more mental notes. She yawned a little more and laid down on the bottom of the tank like she was in a bed. She looked up at Aria and smiled, "So tell me about your life in your area. Do you have cities?"

Aria idly swam around the tank as she spoke "Cities? We mostly just live on our own, really. Most mermaids wander around the ocean without one specific place they stay. I guess I'm unusual like that... I've never really strayed far from my home."

Aria shook her head "No, not really. Most Mermaids don't want to be found by the Humans, and they think that if they congregate in one place it'll make us easier to find." She told Acacia. She felt kind of strange... Already that seemed like a silly notion, and she had just been captured by this Human. She had been talking with her for a little while, and yet she already felt like Acacia was her friend. For some reason, she could no longer fathom why she thought the Humans were dangerous anymore.

Acacia swam up to her and smiled, "well, I'll treat you well. I had you teansfered to my lab. I might have to give you some medicine so you don't get sick, but otherwise you'll be fine."

Aria smiled back at Acacia "Thanks... I suppose you finding me isn't as bad as I thought it would be." She giggled a little "For some reason I was expecting someone who... I dunno... Wouldn't treat me as well as you have, I guess. Thank you, Acacia."

Acacia lifted her head, "you're a prime specimen, and half human! Human rights extend to your kind!" She hoped. She'd have to check on that one.

Aria blinked "You... You think so?" She asked. She honestly didn't expect to be thought of as on equal ground with the other Humans. The thought of Acacia treating her the same way she'd treat others of her own species, and not as something inferior - Or even superior - to them, made Aria happy. She was glad she didn't have to worry about being treated like just another thing to be studied.

Acacia nodded and swam back up to her, "simply fascinating..."She muttered a few more things before she finalized her thought and got out.

Aria watched as Acacia left the tank "Where are you going?" She asked, without really thinking about it.

Acacia yawned again, "firstly, to get some coffee. Second, to get a cot so I can sleep in here." She left the room to obtain her two goals.

"Oh, okay." Aria replied, waving to Acacia as she left the room. She looked around for a moment, and swam around the tank while she waited for Acacia to return. It was certainly a smaller space than she was used to... But then again, she was used to the ocean, so really anything would be as such.
