Apocalypse.

She nodded as he listed it off "I'd be happy to h-help in anyway I can." She nodded to herself 'I will be as helpful as possible to continue his kindness.' With that resolve she followed his pointing to the building block.

"Certainly looks in better shape then m-most of the buildings here. Or my ship f-for that matter." She smiles a little at herself. 'The place indeed looks normal' she was sure it would be suitable for the minimum things she require though and she couldn't be more grateful.

Roland nodded to the girl. "Glad to see your ready to work." He says with a smile. It was mainly to help keep X happy. Picking his pace up a bit, the pair quickly arrived at the house. Opening the door, the inside was revealed to be rather simple. The living room had an old sofa, a coffee table, and a radio on top of the coffee table. The kitchen seemed completely out of order. The study had a large collection of old books, but most had parts that where unreadable. There was also a collection of gun parts and assorted ammo in the study. Upstairs where just three bedrooms and a bathroom. The only bedroom that was in use was the largest one, as that is where Roland slept. "Make yourself at home."

Following him in she observed the first few rooms, but was mostly glued to the study and its collection of books. "How very..homely.." she stated softly, while placing her satchel on the small desk in the study.

Taking another glance at the room shes stepped in, sat on the floor, and crossed her legs as she searched the bottom shelf. Her finger gliding across the spines of the many books. 'I like it here already..' she thinks to herself as she picked one at random and flicked open the pages delicately. Quickly she found though that the writing was illegible, and not just the fact that the page had been wet, or damaged but she could physically not understand a word on the page.'Oh dear..' she thinks, bouncing the book on her hand as if about to put it back. 'I should try.. to u-under stand it..' and she opens it up and continues to examine the new language.

Roland watched the girl form a distance as she went though the house. Once she seemed familiar with the house, he went into the kitchen and opened up one of the cupboards. He then proceeded to pull out a few cans of pre-made stew and quickly cooked them on the barely working gas powered oven. It took about ten minuets before the food was ready. The sun was just visible and was about to go away. After putting the food in two bowls, Roland grabbed a flashlight and yelled up to X.

"Food's ready! Come get it! I will need your help putting the window guards in after we finish eating!"

After struggling over the book she has resulted in just laying on her back, playing with her badge.

Hearing Roland down in the kitchen she sat up carefully and pulled herself to her feet, grabbing her satchel and slinging it back over herself. Carefully she went down the stairs and followed the noise to find the kitchen. Walking in she looked to Roland with the bowls and light and raised an eyebrow in question. 'What is that in his hands..'

Walking over into the living room, Roland set down both bowls, on with a flashlight next to it. Roland sat on the couch closer to the bowl without the flashlight and started eating it with his spoon. "Eat up. It's going to be a long night." He told X as he continued eating, watching the sun slowly sink into the horizon.

Following him she took a seat on the floor, stretching her sore leg out. Reaching over to the bowl, she looked at the flashlight once more."i-If you don't mine me asking, what is that?" she questions him flicking her head towards the flashlight, whilst she grabs the spoon and puts the liquid to her lips before tasting it. Pleased with the flavor she continued to eat it as she await a response.

Roland's spoon stopped half way to his mouth as he looked at the girl before him. This girl is definitely a strange one. He thought to himself as he lowered the spoon back into the bowl. "That would be a flashlight." He told X. "You press the black button on top of it to turn it on, then you point it at stuff and it lights up the area. Just don't shine it in your eyes." He said to the girl, waiting for her to turn it on and shine it in her eyes.

"Oh. T-that's cool." She said whilst experimentally turning it on at the floor. 'Flashlight, provides light.. ok..' She thought storing the word for later use. She flicked it off and put it back up on the side.

A moment later she slowly stood, and went to the kitchen to place the empty bowl in the sink. She walked back in and stood against the door frame ,scratching at her arm as she waited patiently for him to instruct her. "So what exactly will we be 'g-Guard-ing' the windows with?' She asked stumbling slightly over the wording.

As Bishop finished the bowl of food, he pushed it away slightly, and glanced at the dead radio beside the bowl. He then turned to X and stood up. "Well, first we block them off with the metal bars i have made. If something looks like it is about to break though, you can stab it with your knife, or i can stab it with one of the kitchen knives. Shooting them would attract more. That would be very bad."

After the explanation, the young man then walked over to the nearest window and saw the last of the sun disappear, and darkness elope the pair. "Just shine the light over here as i put up in the bars. Nothing should attack us for a good while. They always wait a bit."

She nodded to his instructions moving away from the door frame to grab the light. "Sounds easy enough.." she said ignoring the images of evil shadows gripping at her arms, and picking the light up. She looks through the window gulping slightly at the sudden change to almost darkness and flicks the button.Shining the light at the window beside him and moving closer to watch.

After the light was shining at the window, Roland lifted up the bars sitting next to the window and slid them along some metal railing above and below the window. The screeching of metal on metal could be heard over the grunting of lifting and pushing the bars on. After it was securely fashioned into place, the duo continued on to the next, then the next, then the next, and so on. By the time they where finished, it was pitch black.

"Alright." He said with a smile. "That's done. If you want, i can take first watch while you sleep. I'm sure you need it more then i do." He told X as he walked back down the stairs. He was going to stay up and fiddle with the broken radio to see if he could get it to work and perhaps find more people. Perhaps even a settlement.

Holding the torch closely she had not turned it off, worried what would happen if she did. "S-sorry to sound so ..silly.. b-but what is sleep?" She looked at him quizzically in the small patch of light around them. Her eyes giving off almost as much light as the torch, making them rather odd to look at at she sat watching him.

Yep. She is definitely weird. Roland thought to himself as he figured out a way to explain sleep. "Well. Sleep is when you close your eyes and rest. You heart and breathing slow down so you can build up energy for the next day. If you don't sleep, then you won't have enough energy and will feel very tired. How do you not know this? Even with amnesia, you should know what sleeping is. It's a basic human function." The young man questioned, glancing out the window and seeing a single zombie shuffling alone. Nothing to be alarmed at. It wasn't even looking this way.

She nodded,"Guess that sounds like something I should do then." agreeing she pulled off her satchel and place it on the floor behind her, putting the torch upwards on the table beside him. She laid her head back on her bag and looked at ceiling mulling over his last words.

'Basic human..' She found the word 'human' troubling and she found herself loathing the fact she knew almost nothing about this place or its customs. With a low sigh she rolled to her side and faced away from Bishop, her eyes noticeably dulling slightly as she rested, her eyes however did not completely close, the small amount of fear telling her it would be a mistake to.

Eventually though she slid into a slumber of sorts.

Rather abruptly, about an hour or so after she'd fallen asleep, a small groan escape her lips and her eyes had shut tightly, the light from her eyes going out, as she had curled in on herself and was now visibly trembling.

Roland had spent most of the night fiddling with the radio, trying to get it to work. Unfortunately, somehow he had broken one of the more fragile parts, so it was now unfixable until he found a new part. Not that it would be hard, just troublesome. Another thing to do on a long list. With the third frustrated sigh for the day, he glanced over at the girl he had saved. What is up with her. He thought. Wondering what he should do with her. On one hand, she could be a massive help, on the other, she could be a drain on already low resources. Only time would tell.

Glancing out the window, Roland noticed something in the distance. A large dark shape. Moving closer to the window, he peered out of it to try and see what it was. After a moment, he could tell. It was a horde. A large group of zombies that often had a few larger, stronger, and occasionally, smarter ones in it. "Shit." He said under his breath as he grabbed his gas mask and put it back on.

After checking to make sure his gun was loaded, he walked over to the sleeping girl and noticed she was groaning and shivering. "Poor girl. Her nightmare is about to come to life." He muttered as he bent down and shook her shoulder none too gently. "Time to wake up. We have trouble."

Feeling him shake her she sat bolt up right. Breathing heavily and her eyes, possibly glowing even brighter then the torch, were darting around before landing on Roland. She attempted to hold his gaze, trying to calm herself, a few stray tears rolling off her cheeks. Wiping them and still trying to look him in the eye she nodded. " wh-Whats the matter?"

Taking another glance out the window, Roland was relieved to see that the zombies where moving slow. That means they would have some time to prepare, but not much. "Zombies. A lot of them." He said as he moved into the kitchen, glancing around like a madman before grabbing the biggest, sharpest knife he could find and trying shoving it into his non-existent pocket, then swapping to the pocket on the other side of his jacket.

"With that many around, at least one will smell or spot us, and when that happens, the rest will be alerted. Though the door and windows should hold, we won't be able to get out if we are surrounded. So we can either leave, or kill them. Just to let you know, i'm not leaving." He said slightly louder then normal so X could hear. "Be a dear and pick up the giant metal bar in-front of the door and stick it in the slots attached to the wall. It will help keep them out." He said to X as he quickly went into the study to re-assemble the old rifle he had in there, and to pick up some more assorted ammo.

Nodding to him she took a large gulp of air and tried to composed herself. Watching him as he failed with knife and feeling a small pang of guilt.

Feeling better she fixed up her jacket and grabbed her satchel putting it over herself before standing up. Looking to the door her eyes locked with the metal grate and she walked over and slid it into place as instructed. Then she concealed her dagger in her left palm ready for further instructions but a defense ready if and when needed. 'This is gonna be scary as heck' She was freaking on the inside.

After a few moments, Roland came back out from the study with an old 202. rifle and a bag of ammo. Walking over to X, he held the rifle out to her. "Pull the bolt up, the thing with the handle on the side, then backwards. Put in one of the long bullets. Push the bolt forwards then down. Aim the metal bits sticking up from the end at their head. Pull the trigger. Careful of the kick." He told her as he threw the bag of assorted bullets on the ground. It was mostly 202 bullets, but there where also revolver bullets and other kinds for guns he didn't own in it.

She looked at the gun, almost reluctant to take it. Eventually she grabbed it off him with her free hand, holding it away from herself as if with disgust. "d-Do i really have to use this?" she gestures to the gun while examining the weapon. It felt off in her hands, something wasn't right and whatever it was she wasn't happy with it. "I already have my knife.."

Roland looked at her with confusion once more on his face. "Yes." He told her flat out. "If you get bit, then it's game over. You will get infected and turn into one of them. I'm not going to have you try and stab one of them, then another one grabs you and bites you. It's safer to shoot them. You may be weird and anatomically strange, but your the first person I've met in over six months. I'd rather you not die." He told the girl, his voice hard and firm in what he was saying.

Glancing out the window quickly, he noticed that the horde had either spotted, smelled, or heard them. Gesturing to the window, he continued speaking. "Here. Take a few practice shots before they reach us. Better you get a feel for it now then struggling to use it while they are trying to eat us."

Compressing a frown she tossed the weapon lightly in her grip, sliding her dagger back into her sleeve, 'Just in case...'

"Can't fight you there I-i Guess." She said, bending down and grabbing a handful of bullets before walking over to the window. 'Pull the bolt up, the thing with the handle on the side, then backwards.' She nodded to herself rattling off his list in her head. She pushed the rifle into a suitable gap in the bars and out the window, making sure there was room for her to see. 'Bolt' She thought grasping at the small handle.Up then forward, Looking in her palm, she moved her hand from the weapon and grabbed the longest looking of the bullets and looked at the weapon again before finding the slot to slide it in. Forwards and down, she moved the bolt while looking out the window. Quickly she spotted one of the creatures and took her aim, her hand shaking slightly now. 'Careful of the kick' she thought and then pulled the trigger.

She felt it kick her shoulder lightly and she looked up to the gray outside. The creature had stumbled, the wound was on its neck, bullet had basically missed, Just grazing it enough to cause a wound. "Well.. that was..i-Interesting" she half thought, half spoke. 'Try again I guess.' And she carefully and slowly repeated the process until eventually the thing fell dead at about the third/forth shot.

After watching X fire a few shots, Roland went off to the window next to her and stuck his arm out it, with the pistol in his hand. Taking a deep breath and exhaling it, he began shooting. Though all his shots hit, they where not powerful enough to kill in one shot. Most of the zombies took two or three shots of his handgun to take down. Once he had to stop firing and reload, he talked to X again. "How are you finding the gun?"

Looking up at him as she slid the bolt forward and down and shook her head lightly, "c-Certainly not a weapon I'd like to use a lot.. B-but admittedly it does get the job done. " She proceed to aim once more and fire. This time hitting the next zombie in the chest. It stumbled over and fell but was most likely to get back up. "You seem to be comfortable with theses creatures, I -m-mean you've been here a-awhile then y-yeah? H-Has it been long since..These t-things appeared?" She was trying to strike a conversation with him, although they were technically under attack she wanted to be more knowledgeable about what this place was, and whom her new companion was.
