Fantasy Anything Goes

"A compromise?" She scoffed. "Like what, I give discounts for life and I get to keep my head?" Each word dripped with sarcasm. "And by the way I don't very much appreciate being used as a shield."

He snarled as he drew his knife and slammed it into the front desk, burying the blade halfway to the hilt. "No, the compromise is, you let me have a peek at that book and I promise not to...." He paused, suddenly realizing just how out of control the situation was. 'Jesus, Shinu, listen to yourself! You sound like him!' He mentally scolded himself as he blushed behind the shemagh. Taking a deep breath, he started over from the beginning. "The point is, I need to know what's in that book, and whether it's in good hands. So the compromise is this. We sit down and talk this out like normal people. I put my gun down. You let me read the book, I take my mask off. You let me take the book, I leave tonight and never come back. So can we negotiate, or what?" He said as he searched his memory for the one thing he wanted most right now. 'Please, dear Fenrir, do not let me have left my cigarettes somewhere other than my pocket....'

Zodiac reappeared somewhere. Between a rock and a hard place, literally. Trebuchet ambushed him and held him down with the jagged end of his rock against a alleyway wall.

"What did I say about loosin' control, eh?"

He pressed the edge harder against Zodiac's chest.

"Don't make me haveta kill ya. And I know exactly how."

He leaned closer. The odor of dry rock dust, copper, and some unknown stench filled Zodiac's nostrils.

"Aye, keep yer cool-"

Zodiac blurt out, leaning forward suddenly and screamed right into Trebuchet's hidden face.

"I just don't want her to get hurt okay?!" His voice echoed for miles. Trebuchet stood silent.

"She was the only one to really reach out to me..." Zodiac looked up at Trebuchet and a dark liquid rolled down Zodiac's cheeks.

"She was the only one to really show a care for me. I just don't want the only person that cares about me to get hurt or killed."

Zodiac licked his lips, trying to think of words.

"Remember Kai?" He leaned closer to Trebuchet's face.

"I remember her, so do you. She showed you mercy. Kai was th-"

Trebuchet cut him off and yelled into the microphone of his helmet.

"We don't bring up Kai anymore!" His voice was tainted with emotion. Zodiac smiled a little, knowing that he got to Trebuchet's soft spot. He smiled more and grabbed Trebuchet's shoulders.

"See how it feels? See?! Do you want me to feel like that?" Trebuchet now stood up, looking at his boots.

Zodiac pressed his knees against his chest and looked down as well.

"I just want to make sure that doesn't happen again. But sorry fo-"

He looked up to see Trebuchet gone, no trace of his departure.

Victoria quietly begins to move about the bookstore. She looks at the broken glass and made a face. That was going to be expensive to fix. She looks outside, but doesn't see anyone.

Shinu crossed his arms and waited for Aileada to speak. Cutting a quick glance in Victoria's direction, he breathed a sigh of relief. At least no one had been hurt. And even if Aileada and Zodiac had figured out who he was, all that mattered to him was her safety and the success of his mission. Outside of that, he held no opinions. After a moment, he cleared his throat and returned his gaze to the red haired young lady. "Do we have an accord? Or should I just shoot you and leave you here?"

Victoria returns to Jack's side. "There's nobody outside. That I can see anyway. My vision isn't exactly the greatest." She looks around again. "Hopefully we don't recieve another unexpected guest."

He patted her shoulder and smiled. She was a quick learner, it seemed. "Good work tovarich." He said as he weighed his options carefully. He'd come this far, but there had been hiccups, and Victoria was still a rookie. Better to send her away than get her killed. "Change of plans. You will return to base and wait for me. I'll be along shortly." He said as he began to pace to and fro. "And remember, quietly." He instructed. He didn't like the idea of sending her back alone, but it was better than the alternative.

Victoria smiles and nods once again before exiting the bookstore. She steps onto the sidewalk and looks around, then begins to walk towards her home.

She listened as he began talking about taking the book. She shook her head quickly. "No, and if you shoot me you'll never get it. So don't threaten me." She snarled. All playfulness and innocence had left her voice and was replaced with something cold and hollow.

He returned his attention to her, leaning against the front deak with a reasonable, but iron determination in his eyes. "Ok fine, maybe not take the damn thing, but you get where I'm going with this. Let's sit down and have a discussion about this, and see if we can't come to an agreeable resolution somehow. Can we do that?" He inquired, his mind beginning to drift a bit. 'Hell, lady, let's just sit down and have a drink! Is that book really that valuable? What is it, the bloody Necronomicon or something?' He pondered to himself. A drink would certainly be nice right about now. But even in his musing, he never took his eyes off of her.

The statue kept chase as Hunter continued to run for his life noticing the book store he decided to try hiding in there he ran into the store slamming the door behind him and panting when he looked up he found a strange scene before him the wolf, dragon, Zodiac, and Aileada standing before him in some argument "uh, sorry for interrupting" he said with a tired voice "but we have a statue Orthus outside," the shifter said as a roar was heard "and he ain't happy!"

For a split second, his patience snapped like the frayed ends of a ship's anchoring line, and he could not resist an outburst of uncontainable frustration. "Oh you have gotta be kidding me!" He shouted as he wrenched his knife free from the front desk and ripped the shemagh from his head, exposing his face for all to see. Damn the book, at least for the time being, anyway. This was getting entirely too aggravating for his liking, and he whirled around to give them both a final look. He was clearly exhausted, and frustrated, and there was something else there too; something that didn't quite have a name. And so, he threw his head back and let out a rather sad, broken howl as he shot forwards and blindly charged the towering mass of stone. As he drew closer, he skidded to a halt and shouted, more directly at whatever higher power insisted that nothing in his life be simple. "Hey, sutka! Pick on somebody your own size for a change, eh?" He said as he unholstered the Absolution and began firing and reloading as fast as his hands would move, blasting away with the .600 Nitro pistol and holding his ground with tenacity. At this point, he didn't want the book, and he could've cared less for his own safety. In his mind, it was as simple as 'find the big scary, shoot the big scary'. For once, he had a simple task, and he sincerely hoped no one would try to interfere with such a simple thing.

Aileada thought for a moment. 'I suppose as long as we're only talking and the book's where abouts stays unknown, then it should be-' There was a sudden bang as Hunter entered the room. She listened to him babble about a stone man as the white hairedboy ran out to save the day.

( sorry on phone so messages will be a bit iffy)

Hunter ran a hand through his hair and caught his breath and made sure to hide the case from view of others as he walked to the back of the store to sit down for a moment.

Shinu continued firing at the stone behemoth, the thunderous cacophony of his gunfire and profanity filling the night air as he dodged and darted about, trying desperately to weaken the creature. The .600 Nitro Express glowed and crackled with energy, feeding on his emotions like a ravenous beast. With every shot, the runes engraved into the barrel glowed stronger in a bright crimson hue, and he threw every bullet in his arsenal at the statue. Holy water, armor piercing, incendiary, purifying rounds; anything he had at his disposal. At this point, he just wanted to vent his frustration via physical means. The book, Aileada, everything else could wait until he'd run out of steam. At this particular moment in time, he just wanted to blow something up.

Victoria was already well away from the bookstore, so when she heard gunshots, she ran to get home. Sure, Jack told her to be quiet, but she didn't care. She doubted anyone was out anyway.

Watching the shifter move to the back of the store, Aileada jumped up to follow. "So what did you do to piss stone head off?" She asked, sliding down the wall beside him. "Must've been something if he's this mad." Her gaze fixed onto the fight going on outside. The white haired man seemed to be having a rough day too, but why? He was the one who broke in, the book wasn't his, so why was he getting so agitated?

Hunter glanced at the red head and then watched the fight going on out side "lets just say it was part of my job and leave it at that" he said in a monotone voice, his green eyes shifting to the case he had hidden.

"Work huh?" Her gaze shifted over to him. "Remember what you said a few days ago? You said I could tell you anything." Her eyes searched his face for a sign of remembering. "I just want to let you know that you can tell me anything." She smiled kindly. She understood if he didn't want to share, after all she had no intentions of telling him about her book.

Try as he might, the statue just wasn't going to give up, and he was running out of ammo. He'd taken quite a few nasty hits that left him rather dizzy and bleeding, but he wasn't giving up yet. He loaded the last of his ammunition into the gun and took aim. If a depleted uranium round didn't do some damage, then nothing would. He darted from behind a car and fired, hoping against hope that the bullet would do something. The round struck home between the statue's eyes, detonating in a fantastic display of pyrotechnics and concussive air pressure. For a few brief moments, the creature reeled backwards, roaring in pain and anger. But as the dust settled, the wolf cursed vehemently. Not more than a dent the size of his own body! He ejected the empty shell casing and spit onto the dirt, trying desperately to think of some way to damage the creature. In a fit of desperation, he found a safe place to hide and began to channel his energy into the gun. Provided this didn't kill him, the creature would surely be destroyed in the blast.....along with everything else within a six mile range. Weak and ragged, bleeding from several wounds, the lycan stepped into the open and raised the pistol; aiming at the statue's chest. In a final act of desperation, he squeezed the trigger and fired a tremendous blast of directed energy that lit up the night as though it were early afternoon. Thanks to the runes engraved into the metal, the pistol had the ability to draw chakra directly from it's user and convert it into a weaponized beam. The downside was that the more a person fed the weapon, the more it drained the wielder's life force. Usually such a shot only generated a small, laser-like projection. In this situation, Shinu generated a beam the likes of which could only be found in movies. And despite the incredible power, all its dazzling and destructive power, it did nothing. Windows were shattered, buildings were damaged, and cars were tossed about like toys; but it did nothing to the statue.

Hunter looked at Aileada and his eyes softened "listen, it's not that I don't want to tell you it's just.... What I do is dangerous on a universal level and I don't want you involved in that" the shifter said getting up letting the case be viewed. "but my dad used to say 'if we don't do it, who will?' and I've taken that to heart." Then widows shattered and he ducked "Ok that's it" with anger lacing his voice he opened the case pulling out both blades, when he did the earth itself seemed to shiver from their presence alone, of course this alerted everything on this hemisphere to there location

Aileada nodded, understanding what he meant. She was going to respond to him about how she didn't need protecting, but there was a blinding flash of light that made it seem that the night had passed in a second. She looked outside and watched in slow motion as a shock surged through everything; windows, cars, books. It was going to hit them soon. She could feel her heart pounding within her chest, feel the blood circulating throughout her body. Without another word, Aileada pulled Hunter back to the ground, pulled his head to her chest and covered her ears. There was no way they would get out of this unscathed, but it hopefully would keep them alive.
