Mick Halstead

Mick was more than surprised when Clover took his hand back into her's. Not because he didn't think she liked him. She was already out somewhere dark and abandoned with him, obviously that wasn't the case. Not using his skills of deduction anyway - no the surprise came from feeling that jolted through him when she did. It had to be mutual, didn't it? That feeling of spark like a flint to some dried out brush. A spark big enough to ignite a low fire that could be built and fanned into a large flame.

He was touch starved and didn't even realize it. It wasn't from a lack of touch, no. He had no problem bedding women, but there lied the problem in itself. The touch he came with other women was all sexual nothing warm and loving. With her just with a touch he felt like he was in a log cabin with a fire going, hand full of an Irish Coffee.

I've traveled a lot, it took me a long time to find this place, town after town, people who don't accept me or my lifestyle, but this town is good.

Mick listened to her words, but noticed the goose bumps on her skin, breaking their hands apart and removing the light jacket he wore and placing it over her shoulders, before joining their hands together again. She mentioned this town was good and he sort of shifted. They had different perspectives, naturally because of his job, he saw all the dark things about it. He hadn't been here terribly long, but had lost count of the bodies he saw.

"Anyone who can't accept your lifestyle doesn't deserve to be in your presence," he replied to her, not even really thinking about what he was saying it's just what came naturally.

I think it takes a while to find the peace we all deserve.

Those words made time slow down as he let them linger. Did someone like him deserve that sort of peace? The peace he was experiencing now. The evil he had done, was he allowed to have peace?

His thoughts were interrupted by the cheers and like Clover, he also checked his watch and smiled,"Happy New Year." He leaned in to kiss her, stopping himself and shaking his head and moving away from her turning to watch the fireworks and rubbing back of his neck.

The truth is out there
Wil squeaked excitedly when she'd finally found what she was looking for, straining for the item on a high shelf. Whatever was said, Vicente hadn't caught it, too busy staring at the curve of her backside as her lithe figure stretched to reach upwards. “Yeah…” His voice cracked like an awkward 12-year-old's, forcing him to clear his throat harshly to sound normal again.

“Awesome!” Vin added absently, flicking his gaze away before Wil could turn around and catch him in the act of admiring her body. It was becoming a problem, how distracted he was by every sexy toss of her soft raven hair or wrinkle of her cute nose when she laughed. This was official Paranormal Society business after all. As club president, it was completely unprofessional to be thinking about Wilhemina this way.

Vinny reached up to easily swipe the roll of duct tape she was struggling to grab off the shelf. Pretending to give it up, he playfully pulled away at the last second to hold the tape just out of her reach once again.

“Kidding,” He chuckled at the little pout she gave in response, finally handing it over.

The pair gathered up their haul of flashlights and last minute items for the investigation, and headed for the checkout. After paying for the goods, Vin hurried out of the dollar store with Wil in tow, waiting a beat for her to scamper up beside him. As always, he made it a point to walk on the outside of the sidewalk as the two began their short trip to meet up with the rest of the group.

“You excited? You're not scared, are you, Meeny?” Vinny teased, thinking back to her comments in the group chat. He was hoping she was just playing it up for effect, and he wasn't dragging his terrified friend into a spooky old building against her better judgment.

Besides, it was perfectly safe. Vin found his way into a fair few condemned buildings around town, and nothing bad ever happened to him. And with its supposedly haunted bathroom, the old Pizzaland was clearly gonna be the most epic ghost hunt of all time. A must-see, as he'd already assured the group a million times this week.

As they neared their destination, his insides began to flip flop with the anticipation that Raeven might actually show tonight. Nobody had ever told him he was handsome besides his grandmother before, let alone a gorgeous older girl.

Did that mean she liked him, or was she just being nice?

Vin was finally starting to feel some nerves as they turned the corner, wondering if Rae would be there waiting for him in front of the abandoned pizzeria.

Killing someone's vibe should be a fucking crime
With a final grunt, Nico set the heavy package on the floor amongst a cluster of others. Having won against the box without breaking his spine, he triumphantly flipped his middle finger at it once Calla’s back was turned, following her to the next room. Nico then fished the phone out of his pocket to type out a quick message, a lie to Clover that he was on his way to the party. This girl didn't seem to be in a rush to throw him out of her house, so he wasn't about to head out just yet.

“Damn, this is a nice house. You're here by yourself? Why’d you decide to come here, of all places?” He asked incredulously, taking a curious peek around the kitchen before his gaze settled back on her with a grin of appreciation for the beer she held out to him.

“Gracias,” Nico nodded, chugging half the bottle in one gulp as he pondered why he himself kept coming back to this boring little town. He'd always rationalize it for the need to re-up his supply, but really, it was probably just the nostalgia of coming back to the only place he could really call home. Even after all his travels to more interesting locales, he just couldn't seem to leave Paradise for good.

Wiping his mouth with the back of his hand as he took a large swallow, the vagrant broke into a sheepish smile listening to her hinting around that she might be onto him about the whole “neighbors” ruse.

“Okaaay, so I don't actually live in the neighborhood,” He admitted with a laugh as they wandered into the next spacious but unfurnished room. Nico had no problem plopping down directly onto the floor, which is exactly what he did.

“My van is right up the street actually. That's kinda where I'm living at the moment.” At the moment, as if he'd ever had an actual home address to his name since graduating high school. The mention of his van made Nico wonder if it was, in fact, still sitting where he'd left it, or if one of the more uppity homeowners had it hauled off to an impound somewhere. Oh well, that'd be a problem for Future Nico to deal with.

“Nah, I'm not one of the fancy TV people,” He cocked his head curiously. “Are you?” Carefully sidestepping the obvious question of what he did for work. Not quite knowing what type of girl Calla was just yet, Nico hesitated to blurt out his profession, lest he accidentally ruin the moment.

Fuck it, he thought. She's gonna find out sooner or later.

“Sooo, Calla Lily,” Nico flashed her a devious grin. “What are your plans for tonight? Up for some fun?” The drug dealer asked casually, beginning to empty his pockets of tiny baggies full of pills and weed, some white powder in a small vial. “You partake? I mean, it is New Year's.”

Oliver Dreyfuss
How lonely it is, to be drowning in a place where everyone can swim

What does one even bring on a parapsychology investigation?

Oliver puttered over this question, teeth pulling at his lower lip and hands snaking through coils of his dark hair, feet tapping out an off-kilter rhythm on the dusty floor of the decrepit van he called home. He’d already packed his old middle school backpack full of the obvious essentials: a flashlight, a roll of tape, a menacing switchblade, a length of climbing rope (best not to ask why he had this lying around), an old-fashioned sound recording device in case everyone’s phones mysteriously went dead, and finally, a camera he’d stolen from the school photography class cabinet. It still had ‘Palisades High School #233’ scrawled in white marker on the underside, and was supposed to have been returned over a year ago.

Maybe this would be enough equipment, but somehow Oliver still felt underprepared for such a monumental scientific breakthrough that would surely shock the world. He and a ragtag crew of other neighborhood weirdos were about to find a GHOST. They’d be the first to present irrefutable evidence of the supernatural… or maybe they’d just add to the ever-growing pile of cryptic unproven anecdotes. But if this worked, if it really worked, they’d completely obliterate the minds of academia.
They’d also probably make a lot of money. Maybe even enough for Oliver to see an actual licensed doctor about his bloody cough and the myriad of other health issues he’d developed.

Finally, with one last nod of resignation, Oliver tossed the backpack over his shoulder and tumbled out the side of the van, heart palpitating with anticipation. It didn’t take him too long to find the abandoned Pizzaland. He knew the town’s most dingy and derelict locations like the back of his hand. He’d spend most days lingering in the parking lots and alleyways of abandoned buildings to sell drugs and various illegal odds-and-ends, so the forsaken wreckage of the pizzeria didn’t scare him much. What’s a little asbestos and lead paint and dry-rotten floorboards to a boy who grew up with all of the above and more? He didn’t even really recognize it as dangerous anymore.

There were a handful of recruits for the expedition already milling about in front of the building… Oliver didn’t immediately recognize their faces from their social media profile pictures, but figured anyone waiting outside this place was probably part of the team. He hurried up to join them, without a proper hello or even a simple wave, instead jumping right into the conversation with a blunt “Who’s going to talk to the ghost first?”. His wide, empty brown eyes and earnest expression seemed to confirm that he was being absolutely serious. “What do we say? How do we start?”

Paddy

It was strange.

The way that her mind drew blanks and her heart fluttered despite the confusion she felt at his request. Away from work? He wanted to meet with her away from work? On purpose? Of course technically this meeting was away from work as well but it was under different circumstances. She wasn't at that party for him. She was there for her friend who, fortunate enough for them, had walked away from her.

Regardless she was torn. It had been a long while since she had gone out on a date. Even longer since she had gone out on a date that had been with a man she had any semblance of interest in. Father daughter dates didn't count, right? Surely not.

Isabella gave Padric a small smile in response. On one hand she could find a way to politely shoot him down, tell him that she was too busy with work and that she couldn't make the time for much more than a quick meeting. However that would be a lie. Isabella most definitely could find the time to spend with Padric. That was the other hand. For reasons unknown to Isabella, she found herself gravitating toward saying yes. She found her mouth opening to speak without her mind giving her the go ahead, instead her heart was doing all of the talking.

"That sounds lovely." She spoke, the corners of her lips tugging upward ever slightly into a smile with each word, "There is a cafe not too far from the office if you would like to meet me there? That have many wonderful selections."

Once the words had left her mouth she regretted it. She felt a sense of dread wash over her. Was she really going to agree to doing something like this again? Was she really going to let herself fall down this rabbit hole of emotion? It was too late now. She was already in too deep. Perhaps there was a way she could get herself out of it. Perhaps she could push him away to keep herself safe.

Annie

The embrace was warm.

Annie filled her with a warmth that she hadn't experienced in a long while. Something familiar yet so unfamiliar at the same time. Often times Brittany found herself shoving the emotions that bubbled up over time back down within, knowing it would do her no good in the long run. Instead she let her mind wander as Annie smiled at her, insisting she wasn't picky and trying to cheer her up.

The alarms cut her off, making her pause just as she took a breath to speak. With the thought lost and the address singing in her ears, Brittany instead let out a soft breath, turning to retrieve her jacket and slip it on. She pulled her phone out of her bag and slid it into her pocket.

"Could be worse. It could have gone off right when we walked into the building like last week." She joked, recalling the memory of their frantic evening. Everything that could have gone wrong had gone wrong that night. Tonight wouldn't be like that. Despite her spirits being a little low, Brittany still looked forward to the evening. Even it if was a busy night she would still get to be with someone she loved on New Years Eve. That was all she could ask for.
With all of her things gathered, Brittany made her way to the ambulance, slipping into the passenger side. She certainly wasn't going to drive. Her hesitancy had been an issue when she first started, sending her into spirals occasionally, especially on rainy nights. Her old partner was terrible about it, claiming that because he had a higher position than Brittany that he got to decide who drove. In that case it was always Brittany.

For a while she thought about quitting. She thought about moving away and doing something else. She considered nursing but... the one thing that always reinforced her decision was the life saving. While she knew she was with these people on potentially the worst day of their life, she also got the opportunity to help them when they needed it most. That and she couldn't grow attached to the patient. It was quick. At the end of the trip she didn't have to worry about what happened to the person from there, she did her part.

Brittany took a deep breath, putting herself in her happy place. Car accidents were her least favourite call to get. Every single one sent her to that night no matter how hard she tried.

This isn't Colin. This isn't the same. It'll be okay. Just... breathe.

Maxie

It was probably her favourite place in the world.

The sight of the ducks paddling around in the water always brought Sarah an indecipherable amount of joy. The smile that passed her lips was genuine and wide. She practically jumped up and down in joy when she saw them, hearing their little quacks as they spoke to each other.

Sarah turned toward Max, absolutely beaming as he spoke. "Look at them, Maxie!" She exclaimed, holding her hands out just as he asked. Once she had a good amount of corn in her hand she pulled them away, letting a few pieces of corn fall to the ground as she did so.

With giddy little strides she made her way toward the water, plopping down on the ground where the ducks gathered. She held her hands out and watched as her little friends waddled over to her and started eating from her palms. She held her hands out flat as the corn started to disappear, feeding them as if she were feeding a horse. Much like her friend had shown her when she was little.

Ducks weren't the same as horses, though, Sarah knew that much. She knew that there was always the chance that something could happen although she didn't really care. It wouldn't be the first time one of the ducks had bitten her. Though she recognized that perhaps trying to kidnap a duck and put it in her backpack was a silly idea in hindsight.

Once the ducks were finished with their little meal, Sarah turned toward Max again, knowing all too well that had she spoken before he wouldn't have heard her.

"Robert is my favourite." She spoke, gesturing toward the one duck who had stuck close by. "He's the prettiest duck, but don't tell the others." She giggled at the idea of the ducks actually being able to understand her. Her attention turned back to the ducks, watching as a few of them made their ways back toward the pond, floating toward each other.

"Do you think they know that it is New Years Eve?" She asked, looking back up toward Max, "Do you think that they understand why us humans celebrate and light up the sky in colours? Do you think they count years the same way we do?"

CLOVER JASPER
Clover could tell that this man was troubled, something dark looming over his head like a rain cloud waiting to shoot a lightening bolt. But that was the thing about her, is she brought no judgement for people and their past unless their past directly affected her future. Maybe he needed to work on moving on, letting go, and find that peace that she'd come to terms with in this town. Sure, it had its flaws, and there were bad people, but it was a place that genuinely brought her happiness, and a part of her wanted to extend that happiness to Mick.

As he leaned in to kiss her, her heart hammered in her chest. But the disappointment washed over her when he pulled away. He seemed to have been in autopilot, most likely from the connection they were both feeling. Like the kiss he was about to give her woke him up. She wanted him to kiss her. So badly. So, as he rubbed the back of his neck she stepped closer, keeping her eyes on his as she took his hand and guided it to wrap around her back so she could move even closer, so her body was practically pressed to his. And when he was comfortable, she slipped her arms around his neck before she leaned up to press her lips to his. With his height, she moved up on to her toes so he wouldn't have to lean down as far to kiss her.

Her whole body was humming from the kiss, and they fit so well together. Like two puzzle pieces locking in to place. And she wanted more. But when his phone went off and interrupted the swimming in her head, she dropped back down to her heels, letting go of the kiss. She was honestly a little breathless from it. But she didn't want to step away. Not because she was kind of cold, but because she liked the feeling of his arms around her. So that she wasn't eavesdropping on the phone call, she looked back over to the fireworks while she tucked herself against his chest. She didn't know what it was about, but as he talked more he seemed more tense, and she could sense that this night was going to come to an end.

CALLA CARLTON
Calla wasn't sure how to feel about this man in her house. He seemed more... free spirited than most people than what she was used to. The stuffy college dorm with people who genuinely didn't want to talk to the freak orphan girl. But, she was in a new town, full of people who had no clue who she was.. No one knew she was the freak orphan girl, unless her grandmother mentioned her to people, which she doubted. This man she had no doubt would not know, and she had no plans to tell him. But his admittance to not living in the didn't come as a surprise to her. But she wouldn't judge. People lived the way they lived and as long as they were good people.

"Living in a van seems so free. And yes, I'm kinda sorta working on the set but I'm only doing the promotional photography." She explained. She was a little embarrassed that she even took the job, she didn't really need it but she enjoyed the sense of independence it gave her, and maybe it would bring recognition to the field she was passionate about. "I'm just hoping it brings recognition to my work before I finish school." She admitted and moved to sit on the floor beside him. She noticed he kinda dodged her question on his work, so she didn't bring it up in case it was something that made him uncomfortable. Downing the rest of the beer, she sat up and crossed her legs to face him when he asked if she wanted to have some fun. Because her night was mostly going to consist of unpacking. So, he was peaking her interest.

But as he emptied his pockets, she narrowed her eyes a little bit. Not because she was judging him, but because she was one of the few kids that were at her college who didn't do drugs. Not that she didn't want to try, but because she didn't have the friends to offer it to her. Or want to do it with her. So, she bit her lip nervously as she nodded. "Sure. I've never... Done any of that before." She told him, not even sure what he dumped on to her floor, besides the weed of course. But she hadn't even done that before either... Well that's a lie, "well actually, this guy I knew when I was young gave me a pot brownie. And I freaked out a bit." She told him, leaving out that the one who had given her pot brownies was her foster brother. "Other than that, never." She said with a little shrug, somewhat nervous.

She shouldn't be jealous.

Clementine had been engaged for a while now. There was really no reason for her to feel the way she felt about the nights events yet there was that little green monster inside of her that was screaming. The love between the two people in front of her in that moment was evident. It paled her relationship in comparison. It almost made her relationship look as though there was no love at all. The way he looked at her... the way she looked at him...

There wasn't a doubt in Clementines mind that she felt that same intense love for Alan but sometimes she wondered if he felt the same way about her. Did she make his world turn the way he did to her? That love. Those words that Francisco spoke to Scarlett. Her Spanish was rusty to say the very least but she had understood the basics of what he had said. How he had told her he couldn't live without her... how he wanted to give her the world.

The place. The people. The words. All of it screamed passion. All of it screamed Romance. Such things that Clementine could only wish she could drag out of Alan. A public display of affection like the one she had witnessed.... No... Instead it was all about the image. All about how it would look to the public eye. Alan cared so deeply about his image that it felt as though Clementine was being left behind. A second thought rather than a partner.

"I can't believe they are already engaged..." Clementine spoke, staring out the window of the vehicle, "They have been together what, three months? He loves her so deeply..." Words trailed off as thoughts took over. Another wedding. Another wedding to attend for someone who got engaged after she did. Another happy couple celebrating their love while she was stuck in an endless loop.

For a moment, a brief indescribable moment. Clementine hated Scarlett. For a moment Clementine hated that she had gotten everything she wanted. A husband to be who never spared a moment to dote on his beloved, a child on the way. Yes, Clementine knew. It had been obvious to her. She had seen expecting mothers time and time again and without fail every time she felt the emptiness of her soul. How badly she wanted it all. The husband. The child on the way.

Clementine turned to face him then, her nose twitching ever slightly, "Did you know he was going to do this? Did you bring me along just to taunt me?" It was accusatory for no reason at all. Clementine knew he wouldn't be so cruel... right?

If you think I'm being harsh
Well baby, keep on counting stars
Without saying a word, the look on Claudio’s face screamed stay away as he moved through the rambunctious crowd, annoyed. Some semblance of a mean mug was more or less just his default resting face, but this was a rare scowl brought on by a truly terrible mood. This party was the last place in the world he felt like being. He had no patience for fun little friendly gatherings these days, or even friends, really. Just let him be miserable in peace.

Fuck Paradise and everybody in it. Claudio wished he could truthfully say he didn’t regret making the selfless choice, that it was all worth it in the end, but that would be utter bullshit. He was bitter. That scholarship was his ticket out the armpit of California, and he'd never forgive himself for squandering it.

But family was family. Growing up, his father was the only parent he ever could count on to be there. And it wasn't like he could have left their ailing dad, the bodega, any of that in Teddy’s incapable hands. He was too self-absorbed, too busy with his dance crap and chasing after his next lay. Claudio had long accepted as the oldest, the responsible one, everything would always fall on him.

He stood brooding silently, sipping on beer as he considered dipping out altogether. He only even stopped by because of Zuri's drunk texts begging him to show, and the promise of a good time at their own little afterparty. He didn't doubt she'd deliver on it; since their breakup, the former couple had a habit of hitting each other up for booty calls on the regular. But his glower deepened at the thought of what a sucker he was, knowing be probably would’ve come anyway just because Zuri had asked. She still had him wrapped around her finger like that.

But of course, now that she had him come running like her little bitchboy, Zuri was nowhere to be found. Probably already gone home with the first chump she met.

He was just about to give up and call it a night when a brunette breezed by, with a smile so radiant it actually managed to melt his icey glare a bit. The nurse from his recent trip to the hospital after a mishap on the basketball court left him limping to the emergency room. While the injury seemed to usher in a whole new era of shitty days for him, this pretty little chica was the one bright spot that stood out to him that day. Claudio spent enough time shuffling his father between medical appointments to know that she was by far the hottest nurse he'd ever laid eyes on.

The young man pushed himself off the wall he leaned against to quickly catch up with her. “Hey...Isabella, right?” He asked casually, cracking a confident smirk. As if her name, that face, weren't already seared into his memory. Luckily, he now had the mental image of her in a tight black dress instead of the baggy scrubs.

Little as he could gather about Isabella though, he certainly wasn't expecting to run into her at some rager. She just didn't seem like the type. She seemed…sweet, patient. Pleasant as your typical girl next door fantasy.

“Didn't think I'd see you here…”

But really, what did he know? Maybe the good girl nurse had a wild side.

“Hey! No fair,” Teddy pouted, but to no avail. Jenny was already dragging Alessa away from him. He was actually only half joking; of course he wanted to dance with Lessa. He always wanted to dance with Lessa. And it wouldn't take long for one of Jen's little buddies to sidle up and try to spit game at her. Teddy could only watch from a distance, irritated by the exchange.

Alessa was so clearly out of this guy's league that Teddy had half a mind to stomp over there and tell him so. But he wouldn't, especially after being chewed out earlier for the same type of behavior. I can take care of myself, Alessa chided him. And acting like a jealous boyfriend was never a good look.

Besides, he was single for a reason. Unlike a relationship, casual hookups were all fun, with none of the dumb feelings. But as he turned to walk away, Teddy couldn't help wishing he'd run into Celly, even though he knew she wouldn't be there. She was with that chef guy. Right at this moment, he was probably seducing his girlfriend with fancy, exotic foods Teddy couldn't even pronounce, let alone attempt to cook.

EX-girlfriend, as Celeria would remind him, if she were there.

Now that his great mood had taken a nosedive, Teddy decided to do a lap around the party, in an effort to shake off the bad vibes. Sitting around being all maudlin wasn't gonna get him laid.

Fortunately for him, the best possible distraction suddenly appeared. That familiar graceful gait stepping into his periphery, as if he'd somehow just summoned her. Her dark eyes flickering over the crowd, either overlooking him or ignoring him to play it coy.

Something stopped Teddy from going to her though. He was actually nervous for once, and stalling for time. Kameron Sheldon was someone he dreamed about getting with since she first fluttered into town. Teddy watched her glitter under the tasteful lighting scheme of the Kennedy residence, dripping in diamonds. This girl was not only a perfect dime, but classy as hell. If things went well for him tonight, she'd definitely be the boujiest he'd ever bagged.

The dancer took a deep breath and exhaled quickly, shaking his limbs out as if preparing for a 50 yard dash. Now or never, he thought, and ambled over with a cocky swagger.

“Hey, mami!” Teddy called out to get her attention as he approached. “Here I am, your prayers have been answered,” He snickered. Jokingly motioning towards his own body, showcasing himself like he was a prize she could win on the Price is Right.

Kammi towered over him a bit in her heels, which didn't exactly boost his confidence. She looked great in them though, so it was a small price to pay, really.

“Aight, so…” He broke into a mischievous smirk, rubbing his hands together “What we drinkin’, chula?”

Seeing his smile threw her off a little bit if she was being honest. Not that it was bad, but that he usually walked around with a smug smirk on his face. Giving off this tough guy persona, but this smile? It was cute. Adorable even. So yes, it was a little off putting but for all of the right reasons.

She smiled back when he responded about also being surprised that he came, and nodded to the inquiry about the crystals. She moved to open it up and took one of them out, quartz, and held it up to show him.
"This is quartz, it's meant to cleanse and heal. I've feel like I've used it a lot recently so ...I need to cleanse the cleanser ha."
Ari could tell he was trying his best to ...she supposed..impress her? Not fumble? Almost like he was thinking too much about the thing he had already said or done?

Her face began to burn red when he said that she looked great, kind of looking away from him and up at the sky to try and get herself together. She nodded to herself and closed her eyes ok you got this. He's just a cute boy you like, not like a crowd of rowdy fans. She turned to face him, tucking one of her braids behind her ear,
"Thanks, you look cute tonight too. I mean you always do, but tonight you're with me."
What the hell was she talking about?

She moved to the sand quickly to try and gloss past what she said, digging into her purse for her lighter, a firestarter, and some brush she had collected for this purpose. When she found a spot close, but far away from the water she didn't have to worry about the tide she knelt down and dug a little hole. When he asked what exactly what was happening she smiled to him while she set things up
" So. Crystals deal with energy, so my quartz are meant for healing and cleansing. They had to put in a lot of work this last year so the best time to cleanse and charge them are a full moon and the beginning of the year."

She stopped for a second and laughed,
"Sorry I'm like word vomitting. But yeah, fire cleanses things, so .."
She lit the fire in the hole and waited until it was big enough before sliding the crystals in the fire,
" So boom fire is going to cleanse these, put them in the water and let the moon charge them with its moon energy. "

She stood up and looked down to the crystals, grabbing his hand and slipping her boots off. She pulled him towards the water, stopping just as far as the tide will go before looking to him and then to her skin as the light from the moon reflected off of her. She didn't let his hand go but instead closed her eyes,
"Ok look, close your eyes. And just like, clear your mind and focus on something you want in the new year."

Asher hadn't made it yet so she needed to kill some time until he did. She was at a party and yet she was already bored. She partied so much - so often that parties in general were boring to her unless she had drugs and her buds.

She reached into her pocket and pulled out a little baggy that had some crushed pills in it, and she sprinkled a bit a on the side of her hand and snorted it quickly, taking in a deep breath. Ok that was one half of the equation, she just needed the other half to arrive and she could really get going.

Fortunately for her, whether it was the drugs or her dancing and flirting with some women, time seemed to fly. She was throwing back another pill in her mouth when she got a text from Asher, trying to locate her. A smile slowly appeared on her face as she decided to text him back.

Once they finally managed to find each other, Dee let out an excited laugh,
"Yes! Let's do something stupid!"
The excitement couldn't be more evident in her voice as she reached into her pocket and dangled a baggy of pills in front of him,
"Ok so all of these are your's and..."
she turned around and grabbed a couple of drinks out of a random guys hand and handed Asher one.

She smiled when he suggested a drinking game and thought about for a second before she nodded,
"Ok ok so let's do take a drink for every girl in red heels. Uh every dude wearing a top hat too. Ha."

Billie Benson

Once she put the movie on, Stassi kind of figured that Billie might hide for most of it. She knew Billie wasn't exactly the scary movie tight, but that was sort of the point of her suggestion. She knew it wasn't her usual type of movie, but it was something Stassi was in the mood for. Plus it had the added benefit of the best potential cuddles.

She readjusted herself when she turned the movie on, making sure that Billie had a good point of view, but where she could also hide behind Stassi if need be. She figured that she would freak out over certain scenes and she wanted to make sure they didn't obstruct each other's view.

Just like she thought, Billie would twist and turn, yeep and yip and squeal. Stassi would do her best to wrap her arms around her to protect her or just steal glances in general, so when the movie was done she smiled as she listened to Billie give her wrap up and the movie and she could only chuckle,
"I'm suprised you even saw the movie as much sa you were hiding. "

When Billie said she missed midnight Stassi couldn't do anything but laugh again. She must have mistimed the movie which was fine,
"We should have set an alarm...but still..here."
She leaned forward and kissed Billie on the lips,
"New Year Kiss."

Gavin Casablancas
Some princes don't become kings
“Hey, Aly! Oh, uh, I've been pretty good!” Gavin replied, somewhat breathlessly. He was just glad she didn't give an extended chase, sparing him the embarrassment of having to wheeze on her while he rummaged through his pockets for his inhaler.

He couldn't help but chuckle, quietly listening as she prattled on. He found her flushed cheeks and nervous babble quite cute, even if he had no clue what was making her so anxious. Maybe she was just as uncomfortable socializing as he was? While it was tempting to believe, Gav just couldn't imagine that was the case. A pretty girl like Alyssa wouldn't have any trouble mingling at parties.

As painfully awkward as he was, Gavin wanted to keep this going. Unfortunately, he was finding it harder and harder to concentrate on what Aly was saying. Since his arrival, it felt like the walls were slowly closing in on him. Even though it was a huge house, it was just crawling with so many people. Gav was rapidly growing more and more anxious, longing for an escape.

“Do you wanna maybe…like go take a walk or something?” He finally ventured to ask, bright blue eyes silently pleading with her for a yes.

“Thanks…sorry,” He smiled sheepishly at her once they made it outside, taking in a big breath of fresh night air. “I was just getting a little overwhelmed in there.”

His gaze was drawn to her, stealing glances as they walked together side by side. Never having seen her curvy figure on display in such a short, snug dress before, and for a brief moment, she must have forgotten to cross her arms to obscure the view.

“You look really good,” He suddenly blurted out, face turning every shade of red after letting that one slip. Was that weird of him to say? Probably, but there was no taking it back now. “I mean….uh, yeah,” The boy mumbled with a laugh and shrug, abashedly running a hand through his sandy hair as he failed to come up a witty save for the awkward comment.

“So anyway, what have you been up to? I mean, I know we've seen each other around and stuff. So yeah, I figured you didn't skip town after graduation…I mean, yeah. Like...obviously..” Gav cringed as he spat out more nonsense, unable to make it stop. Clearly, it was his turn to babble now.

BILLIE BENSON
Billie definitely did not like the movie, but with the hospitality that her mother raised her with, she knew she needed to watch whatever Stassi wanted to watch, just to make her friend happy. She liked her, and if Billie ever did anything wrong to upset her, she wasn't sure what she would do. She would probably be so lost without Stassi in her life. So when he friend leaned in and kissed her, butterflies erupted in her stomach and her face reddened. She had been kissed, actually, many times before. Sometimes consensual sometimes it was by people just trying to take advantage of her lack of smarts. But with this it was like a dream come true.

She'd been crushing on Stassi for quite some time now. But, with how open Billie was compared to her friend, she didn't want to do anything to ruin anything with Stassi. So, she never acted on anything with her. But this kiss meant everything to Billie, whether Stassi knew it or not. So when her friend pulled away, Billie's face reddened more. "Happy New Year..." She trailed off, silent for a moment. She wanted to kiss Stassi again, but sometimes she had trouble judging situations. Was this just a friendly New Years Kiss? Or was it more? Billie had no idea, and the thought of keeping in everything now felt useless.

"Can I be honest about something? I've liked you for a long time and that kiss meant a lot to me. And I would like to do it more often." She told Stassi, scooting a little closer to the girl, their thighs grazing. "If you want to though... If you don't want to I completely understand. But I just want you to know this is how I've been feeling for a while..." She said, a little embarrassed, her face still tinted from the kiss. It was all so sudden, and she hoped that Stassi didn't hate for any of this. She knew how blunt or rude Stassi could be to other people. But she was never that way with Billie, and that's something she appreciated with how mean people always were to her.

ALY EVERMORE

Aly rubbed her arm self-consciously, unsure if approaching Gavin was the best idea. She was a loser in all sorts of ways when it came to their school and even now, she felt as if she stood out like a sore thumb among this crowd of rich people who knew how to drink and mingle and party. Had it not been for Jen, she'd probably be home watching some show she'd already watched every season of.

So, at his suggestion they take a walk, Aly nodded quickly. Maybe she'd be able to form proper words for him if there weren't people constantly bumping her shoulders. She did her best to keep up with the boy, the heels she had worn to homecoming already threatening blisters against her heel. But once they were outside, it was like the clean fresh air made her think properly. So, when they had a chance to stop, she unbuckled the heels and looped them around her fingers before they walked again. The silence was awkward, but way more welcoming than the music and loud talking of everyone.

As he complimented her, her face reddened, despite the cool breeze of the night and she looked down as to not only hide her face but to also not trip over her feet at the compliment. Did he really think so? She was heavily bullied in school because of her weight, having always been the "bigger" girl in every grade, despite how nice she was to everyone, "thank you. You look good too." She said back, so that he wouldn't feel embarrassment from the comment. She genuinely did think he looked good. But that was a secret she had kept to herself for a long time. It was kind of nice to be able to talk to him without people around town whispering about it.

"I've been uh... working at the gas station?" She didn't mean for it to come out as a question, but it did. Mostly because it wasn't something she had pictured herself doing after high school, "I did get my own apartment though." She said with a quick follow up, something that she wasn't as embarrassed about. Most people their age still lived with their parents, so Aly was proud of this one accomplishment she was able to obtain. "Next on the list is to get into school, but I'm hoping to get out of town for that, not for the one here." She said with a subtle shrug. She didn't tell people often, why she wanted to leave town, but her family wasn't the most pleasant and she was able to keep that out of the gossip at school.

"What about you? I haven't been on socials much to keep up with anyone." She said, though that was a complete lie. She knew exactly what he was up to, not that she would ever tell him. But it wasn't just him, she always kept tabs on the people she went to school with. Who is pregnant, who got married already, who's on drugs, and so on. It gave a little excitement to her life, and sometimes made her feel not as much of a loser.

"Oh god, please don't remind me. Or could be like that one time the dude threw up in Jake's mouth haha. "
she laughed as she moved towards the ambulance with her radio slung over her shoulder and only the absolute necessary personal items like her phone and the snacks. It would be times they would get called out and not get a break between calls and it was very likely New Year's could be a night like that. It was always strange to her that people got WORSE on New Year's Eve as if we didn't go through this holiday every year. No one should drink and drive, but if you're 25 and up you absolutely should know better.

It always grinded her gears but it is what it is. She headed towards the driver seat, climbing up into the rig and turning the engine on. Though she almost always tired, she didn't mind driving the ambulance. She knew the history of Brittany and would do everything to make the accident calls easier on her because she knew she always got a little uneasy responding to those calls. Who wouldn't be considering what happened to the love of her life Colin. Annie would always be there to support her when she could.

So as the vehicle left the fire station, she flipped the switch to the lights and sirens and followed behind the fire truck. She was hoping it wasn't so bad, she was hoping it was relatively routine and they were barely even needed. She was hoping they would get their, the fire truck would end up just blocking traffic off so the tow truck could get the car out of the road, she and Brittany would check people and only see minor cuts at worse, and they would be on their way.

Unfortunately, the closer they pulled up the more she knew that it wouldn't be that simple. So she reached over and grabbed Britt's hand as she slowly pulled the ambulance to the side in the safe spot. It wasn't anything graphic, but a man seemed to be pinned into his car from a hit from the side by another car. Annie looked to Britt and squeezed her hand,
"You got this, ok? If it gets hard just focus on me. Ok? "

Once Bri confirmed she was good to go, Annie slipped out of the truck closing the door behind her walking up to the scene as the firefighters began to assess the situation and get ready to pull the car off the man,
"Woah woah, guys you know better. He could have crush syndrome the way he's pinned in so... "
Annie was in her element as paramedic in charge as she pointed to Britt,
"I'm going to run a line and start a saline drip, Bri I need you go to check on the other driver he's sitting in the street over there. Make sure to look for any signs of drinking..."
she knew Bri knew what to do, it was just her job and her responsibility to bark out orders and fortunately she figured the other guy wasn't too bad of shape, she didn't need to see this until they got him out. She took a deep breath dropping the jump bag to the ground and grabbing out what she needed and going up to the man from the other side of the car,
" Hello Sir, what's your name? Darrin hi I need you to talk to me um you got kids? Yeah? Tell me about your son..."
she worked on him getting the line in and holding the bag before she nodded to the firefighters and they began to remove them. With her free hand she squeezed her radio,
"Avidan, I need you to grab the gurney, and get ready to help me. You're going to have to drive....."

It was a really beautiful night. A romantic atmosphere, proclamations of love, etcetera, etcetera. But to Kiera, the most beautiful thing about the evening was the free drinks. Not that she was saying the proposal didn't impress. She was so happy for Scarlett and Francisco. They made a gorgeous couple, and her friend seemed happier than ever. But it was pretty typical that Kiera's interest leaned more towards the temporary fun of the party in front of her rather than whatever eternal love thing Scar and Cisco had going on.

Kiera could be called many things, but a romantic was not one of them. She was a lover and a flirt, but never a romantic. In her mind, romance only got in the way of having fun. Although she'd determined it wasn't really for her, she did believe in love, but she wasn't sure if she believed in the whole 'til death do us part, forever and always thing. It just seemed impractical for anyone, no matter how strong a couple was. Who knows? Maybe Scarlett and Francisco would make it happen; if anyone could do it, of course it would be them.

But, rather than becoming focused on the complications of the concept of love, Kiera enjoyed the party. She'd had a bit to drink, but didn't go completely overboard. She knew she could hold her liquor, but after the proposal, she held herself back a bit, not wanting to make what should be a sentimental, sweet night about her getting completely fucked up and causing a scene. She chatted with friends, had a couple shots—nothing too crazy. However, the lack of terrible decisions left a hint of boredom in Kiera's buzzed mind, which could be dangerous if left unattended to. She wandered the party, looking for something to further entertain her.

When she spotted Avi and Lilith, she decided to go say hello. Kiera thought that they were, in her opinion, some of the best people on the planet. They accepted her more than her own parents ever did, so she held a certain attachment to them. Unfortunately, hanging around them was, in her opinion, one of the worst people on the planet. Alexander Anderson. The grade-A douchebag. The alliteration of his name also kind of pissed Kiera off for no reason in particular, but that was irrelevant. The point was that he was an asshole. But, for some reason, the Fausts still liked him.

"Avi! Lilith!" She approached enthusiastically and gave a quick hug to each of the parental figures in greeting. She stood closest to Lilith. Avi was a legend, of course Kiera adored both members of the couple, but Lilith was like her personal icon, the mother she always craved but never got. She looked over at Alex and gave him a cheeky, disingenuous smile. "And Alex is here too, lovely," she said, her words filled with sarcasm. "Having a good night so far?" Her question was directed towards Alex, but she was pretty sure she knew how he was feeling about the night, even if he couldn't express it at the lovely engagement party for Scarlett's sake. Still, she was feeling bored and loved to poke the bear. She was prepared to be a nuisance until she got some sort of reaction.

Barber
;; Leo
For Leo Barber, this boring night was typical really. To him it wasn't all that boring though. He genuinely enjoyed studying, learning new information was interesting to him. He could spend all day studying and not get fed up with it, unlike most people. But, Leo was smart enough to know that this sort of thing would be extremely dull to a majority of the population. Especially for a college student on New Years Eve. Most people he knew were out partying, and that wasn't really his thing. So, despite feeling like kind of a loser for it, he stayed in since he couldn't think of anything else to do.

By far, the most interesting thing that was happening for him tonight was the text messages he'd been receiving from someone who had been occupying his mind for far too long. Xiomara Alvarez. Just looking at the messages, they were uninteresting. A simple, pleasant conversation, really there wasn't anything to read into. But to Leo it was everything. Even if Xio was far too cool and interesting to return his feelings, at least she would give him a moment of her day to send some text messages. The conversation really did make him sound like a loser though, giving away his plans of staying in all night. She was probably out doing something fun, hanging out with people who were more on her level than him.

As he sat at his desk, he found his thoughts drifting away from his studies and towards Xio. She was perfect. Well, nothing in this world was "perfect" really. But, she was perfect to Leo. That violet hair, the pretty smile, the entrancing eyes. He couldn't think of a single thing he didn't like about the girl.

Spacing out, listening to music, it took a moment for him to register the knocks on his door. He took off his headphones and went over to open it, confused as to who was knocking so incessantly on New Year's Eve. Probably just someone who had the wrong room, he couldn't think of anyone that would pay him a visit tonight. But, as he opened the door his was immediately jumped, pulled into an energetic hug. The first thing he noticed was the bright hair. He turned red when he registered that the unexpected visitor was Xio, feeling a bit lightheaded after the hug. She seemed so happy to see him, which only added to Leo's nerves.

"Hey," he smiled in a friendly, awkward greeting. As she spoke he registered that she was drunk he gave a tiny laugh. He was flattered that even though she was clearly somewhere much more fun before, she'd thought of him and made her way over here. Even if it was due to intoxication. "Yeah? That's pretty cool. Looks like nice stuff too," he remarked as Xio passed the bottle of booze to him. He didn't think it was that cool, he just wasn't sure what to say. He'd only drank a couple of times and knew enough about himself to know that he'd make a fool out of himself if he drunk around Xio. But, if he didn't drink she'd probably think he was extra lame. Choices, choices.

For now though, his gaze followed the girl as she danced her way over to his bed and plopped herself down. He sat the bottle on his desk and stood next to his bed, completely unsure of what to do at this point. He was just glad his room wasn't a mess. "Can I get you anything? Like some water? I have some snacks too if you wanted?" His natural instinct to care for others made him want to make sure she was ok and had everything she needed. Now that she was here, his home was her home and judging by the way she took over his bed, she already knew she owned the place.

When Oceanna came closer and pressed another kiss to Ezra's lips, he complied right away. This time, it was deeper—a frenzy of passion. He savored every second of it. The kiss turned into something more, and that was that. They'd finally done what they'd been scared to do.

He sat on the couch, getting his thoughts together, as Oce went to the bathroom to take a shower. He couldn't quite think straight, but he knew he thoroughly enjoyed what had happened. Smiling uncontrollably, he rolled a couple more joints for them. Ezra didn't know what came next, but he'd never encountered a situation where smoking weed didn't make him feel better. He couldn't believe what had just happened, but it felt great. Of course he wanted to do it again, or even become something more, but doubt creeped over his mind as he realized that it was entirely possible she didn't feel the same.

He turned the TV on, hoping to distract his busy mind, but it did nothing to quell his thoughts. His smile slowly subsided as he weighed his options. He could say something, possibly freak her out and ruin their friendship, or he could wait and see if she said something and let the moment pass if she didn't. He wasn't sure he could bear scaring her off, so he decided on the second option.

Hearing Oce come back out to the living room, he turned his head towards her and couldn't help but give her the tiniest smile in greeting. Still, it was quiet as she settled in next to him, neither of them saying a word. The episode that was playing continued on as they smoked in silence, clearly enjoying each other's company. But he was still unsure of where he stood with her. So, by the end of the episode, he'd just figured they weren't going to talk about it. It was just a moment, that was all. He frowned at the thought, but he could live with it as long as she was still in his life. "Better than New Year's with the president," he muttered, not even realizing he was speaking aloud.

Al Brinson

Al had many ways he was connected to Francisco and Scarlett. Though it mostly began as a connection via Jae, his cousin, eventually he had come to be friend them himself. He would even be there go to doctor for a lot of things, especially things they wouldn't to keep lip tight so even if it wasn't his specialty, if it was something he was confident he could do he would oblige, so with Jae having to attend his son's game this evening of course Alan would be the representative from the Brinsons.

It was beautiful, but what he didn't expect but probably should have, was the constant side eyes and off handed comments from his own fiancee through the night. He wish that he didn't drive - that he could have pounded back more than the two whiskey sours and one gin and tonic while they were there. He wish he could be hammered so bad that her words traveled through one ear, circumnavigated his brain, and went out the other, but no. Here they were in what essentially amounted to an expensive prison for him at the moment.

I can't believe they are already engaged...They have been together what, three months? He loves her so deeply...

He took a long breath, blowing a little bit of raspberries at the end before cracking his neck, "Well...when you know you know I suppose." His green eyes never left the road ahead of him, doing his best to not make eye contact with her because that would be a mistake. She was like a gorgon right now and that was problems he was trying to avoid.

Did you know he was going to do this? Did you bring me along just to taunt me?

He took another long breath frustrated by her accusatory tone finally glancing over to her, "Did I know he was going to propose? Of course, that was the point of going and you knew that. Did I know it was going to be all of....uh that, obviously not. Look can we not do this, I was in surgery all day and I'm tired."

Touch Me I'm Sick

Stella rolled her eyes, a trill laugh floating from her lips as she crossed the room. This wasn’t her first dressing down from Salem; him getting all worked up over nothing, acting like the “responsibility” he felt had been burdened upon him by anyone other than himself. She had never asked for him to come to her aid (sidenote: untrue, however these occasions would not prove her point and are therefore dismissed by Stella), never presumed he would be there for her when shit went south (sidenote: see above), and had never, ever gained any joy from him caring about her wellbeing (do you see the pattern emerging?)

She placed her helmet on the kitchen side, still smirking, as she reached up to open a cupboard. “Salem, you worry so easily. I’m starting to think you like it.” She hooked two fingers under the stems of a couple of wine glasses and made for the rack at the end of the counter, grabbing an expensive looking bottle of red.

“But, I hear you,” she said, popping the cork with a screw she had taken from the drawer and pouring the garnet liquid until it sloshed near the rims, “you shouldn’t have to be responsible. So don’t be. Let’s call off this whole – thing. I am more than capable of looking after myself. Never once got into anything I couldn’t manage. In fact -”

Stella paused, subsiding a little, using what little restraint she possessed to prevent useless words spilling out. She knew there was no point. Not with Salem. With Cooper, she would be yelling, perhaps even punctuating her point by throwing a glass at the wall behind his head. Not here. Not with Salem.

“Whatever. Here,” she said, rounding the counter with both drinks in hand, extending one to him, “let’s drink. You can ease up. Tell me your work woes, huh? You’re stupid trying to get anything done this late. Then again, you’re always a martyr. Super Salem, they should call you. Saviour Salem. Maybe that’s what I’ll call you. It’s got a ring to it.”

Stella laughed a little breathlessly again, her eyes flickering over the silver rings adorning his hands and the subtle flexes of his forearms. “And I haven’t forgotten your little Cooper-quip you made back there. And let me say, you might feel responsible for me, but you’re not responsible for my social life outside of you. I have needs, Salem, and they need to be met regardless of your presence,” she smirked, reaching a single digit out and hooking it under one of the silver chains around his neck, “though I prefer it when you do.”

OCEANNA WOLFF
The silence was broken by Ezra muttering something about the president, and the statement confused Oce. Not only because she was stoned, but because he revealed nothing about his past. Was this a joke? Or did he actually know the president? "What do you mean by that?" She asked, turning to him with her head slightly tilted. "New Years with the president?" She asked, genuinely confused. She really knew nothing about him apart from what she knew with his life in Paradise.

The thought sort of made her sad. How she knew so little about a man she'd been spending nearly every day with for almost a year. So she waited, seeing if he would elaborate on this topic. Maybe he would open up to her a little? She really wanted to know about how he was feeling with what they had just done, but if he talked a little bit about his past then she would be happy with the crumbs he threw at her.

She didn't really talk about herself much, or about her parents and how they treated her, but that was only because he never asked. It's not like it was something she hid from everyone, but it was also something she didn't want people to pity her for. She grew up, moved on, and that was that. So, if he wanted to know more about her, she wouldn't mind telling him as long as there was no judgement. But it only made her more curious about him. Even if his past was bad, her feelings about him wouldn't change because whatever it was that made him who he is, is who she truly lov- liked.

"So mysterious, did you get any deets on the president? Sit in in meetings?" She asked before taking another pull of the joint.
