Futuristic Agent of Maniacles OOC and Characters

Mania is basically the goddess of mental illness.
Dionysus is a wild party that went too far.

So I ask you, how is a show based on shocking the audience into a frenzy with drama and purposefully slow reveals related to Mania, when that kind of ritual insanity is Dionysus's gig?

I'm not saying she's not involved, I'm questioning the validity of the reference

I thought you were making the argument that Dionysus doesn't fit with the show. I was saying he does. Dionysus is associated with drunken or religious madness more. You could make the argument a TV show like that has a cult like mentality.

As for Mania...I've never heard of a Greek deity with that name. However, Lyssa (who represents rage, frenzy, and animal craze) is a madness deity that heavily associated with a group of spirits called the Maniae. They personify insanity, but it isn't a singular deity. At least not as far as I know.

Then perhaps I have erred, although it is not uncommon for polytheistic religions to lump multiple entities representing similar things together and treat them as a single entity

This is true. So we might both be right. Lyssa and Mania might be the thing. Just different regions or whatever.

I was confused because I said "Somewhere Mania is wondering if she is involved and doesn't remember"
To which you replied that you would make a Maury, and I had no clue who that was or how it related to the statement, and we had this discussion.

A quick Google search reveals that Maniae are treated both Goddesses of varying kinds of bat shit crazy (the Maniae) and a single goddess (Mania), so there does not appear to be a correct answer. Perhaps we can reconcile this this the same way some reconcile the angels and God not all being gods; Mania might be the full God of insanity, and the Maniae are slightly less full goddesses of insanity, and they sit under the same banner?

That works.

As far as I know Greek deities weren't very organized in worship. I mean each god had temples and stuff, but it was very like disorganized. There were cults spread out there, some over there, each one one at its differences. I mean Dionysus himself is actually a later edition to the Greek Pantheon in the sense that he was from the Myceneaen god (Greece before Greece as we know it basically), but he wasn't worshiped in Greece (like Ancient Greece as we think of it) wasn't brought into the pantheon until later.

There's some evidence that Dionysus is a fusion of an imported God and a small cult that had persisted until his entry into the pantheon.

And there are others who speculate that he's just drunk Apollo

That would make sense. A lot of the gods and stuff are just ever evolving things. His cult probably started off as a wine cult before any worship started of a god. Well, its a theory. The deity changes quite a bit. So like the Orphic version of Dionysus is somewhat different from the Helenized Dionysus. That goes for so many different deities, though. I mean apparently Poessidon was the head god at some point. Loki is also theorized to be a transported god from some older religion.

It's all very interesting.

Kotsu'd help with the testing. Then he'd have resources without need for the Maniacles.
Who's funding the research? Gotta pay the researchers, Sam's gotta eat, need materials to build it, need a place to build and a place to test, need a place to store, need to fuel it, need to keep interest on the project.

Unless the Joes will crank out gold, this money has to come from somewhere.

Have I mentioned how awesome it is to have these discussions with someone who knows what they're talking about and doesn't bring Percy Jackson into the conversation?

The Joes are currently unable to make gold with their current knowledge and equipment. Plus... stop trying to flood the market with synthetic gold! D:< XD

Exactly, it's great that Kotsu with help test, but without funding only so much can be done.

Well, when Sam sells the Pteranodon bike, she'll be loaded.

Yeah, the manufacturer us getting the version without guns and has a limited battery life, otherwise it would be military exclusive or people would only buy Pteranodons and the fuel economy would collapse

Thanks. I just really love mythology and religion and history. No expert by any means, but I just love to learn about it. And funny enough I've never read those books. I've heard good things, though. I tried a Carter Kane book a few years back by the same author who does Percy Jackson, but couldn't get into it.

Dresden Files are always my go to book series to gush about urban fantasy that uses myths and legends. I just love the way everything is presented in those books.

The Joes could assist if they were allowed to ship out individual parts. They'd of course need time and resources to create the recipe, and then the time itself, depending on what needs to be created.

This is the dirt that Denton is holding over the Joes.
