The AIs hitched a ride on her nervous system. In the real world, they aren't tethered that way, although because Sam and all four AIs believe Alex is trapped, unless Alex is freed she will automatically relocate to and kill Owl's laptop.

Or she'll just pop back into her core with computer PTSD. Never know.

Well, the AIs are still basically software. How Owl's computer can process what Alex would need in order to function, I don't know, but as long as the hard drive and connected storage devices aren't smashed to pieces, she can be salvaged.
