Realistic or Modern Age of Vikings (Always Accepting!)

"I wasnt rejected-" He didnt need to explain himself to Azura "So tell me about... England" He said curiously, crouching down to Azura's level. "Goodnight Agnar" He swivelled on the spot to look at Astrid "Goodnight" He smiled and watched her as she left the hall, his smile dissapearing when he turned back around to face Azura. It was night now and soon he would sleep but first he wanted to learn about England while Azura was drunk.

"Bah, I said I wouldn't stop her if she left. I'm a man of my word." Magnus said, his words slightly slurred by the intoxicating brew. "But-*hic* I guess I'll come with you." His small house was only a few rows down from Astrid's anyway, so he stumbled behind her, leaving the noisy mess of the mead hall behind. The moon shone a beautiful silver in the deep indigo sky, and the pinprick stars seemed to almost be amplified by the cool, crisp. "It's nice to be back home. After all those weeks of sailing." He said. "I rember when I went on my first raid to Russia. My mother was so overjoyed when my father and I returned. By Frey, she was sobbing and hugging us both, it was quite a scene to be honest."

Azura giggled at his objection "Whatever" she gave a thumbs up to Astrid at her glare, completely drunk. "What about England do ya want to know?" She said a bit slurred.

She handed him some of her stuff she had taken on the journey, "if you're coming at least give me a hand" She muttered swinging a sack of dried roots at him, she recalled her mother, she would be the healer on the raids, not her, "I remember when mother returned, it would bring so much joy" she swallowed hard, trying to blink away the tears that formed in her eyes, "She would be so proud of me" she cleared her throat, her eyes draw attention to the young girl in the streets who was speaking with Decthalia, she glanced at Magnus, "She will need a place to rest, she will freeze out here" she handed more stuff over to Magnus. She walked slowly towards Decthalia, to avoid any conflict, "You there, uuhh..." she shifted feeling awkward, she had never learnt any of the slaves names, only because they only refused to tell them. "Saxon" she finally blurted out, obviously drunk.

Magnus lost his footing and stumbled as the sack was practically thrown at him. "Haha! Careful now!" He chuckled, regaining his composure. Listening to Astrid's tale about her mother, he nodded. "It seems like all mothers are like that, hm?" Soon enough though, two dark figures appeared on the road in front of them, one much shorter than the other. As the both approached, Astrid yelled out 'Saxon' at one, and Magnus realized it was his former slave. "U-" Magnus was going to say something, but more supplies were being piled into his arms by Astrid.

"How many kingdoms are there in England?" He asked Azura, the Hall was now empty and they were the only two left. He could feel his eyelids starting to become heavy, he wouldnt stay awake much longer and would have to lock Azura in one of siderooms attached to the great hall. The Earl's residence was also attached to the great hall.

Azura was looking sleepy her self as well. Although her mind was a bit foggy. "Four. I think.." Azura said giggling.

She waved her hand dismissingly, "I don't have time to round up the slaves" she stumbled slightly heading back towards Magnus, she grabbed a few bags off him, slinging them over her shoulder,"it is getting late, and cold, she can find her own way" She fixed her dress, looking at Magnus, "Father will be waiting for me, I was sad to not see him at the hall" she continued forward towards the outskirts on the village, where the farmland began, she watched as the cattled stirred, spooked slightly by their presents, her heart grew warm, seeing the smoke rise from the small cottage where she resided.

Agnar asked a few more questions such as the names of the Kingdoms before deciding to call it a night. He pulled Azura up by her bindings and checked her for any knives or sharp objectives she might of snuck during the feast before leading her over to one of the side rooms and opening the door. In the room there was a straw bed and not much else "Goodnight" He said to Azura, pushing her into the room and locking it behind her. He then went to the Earl's room which contained a fireplace with a small fire burning, various furs and a large bed.

Agnar fell asleep thinking about England and how his raid had been the richest Egersund and ever had, he also thought of Astrid, although she was only a farmer's daughter, he liked her and if things went well maybe she would become his wife.

Astrid woke rather early, her head ringing, why must she drink so much mead at the events at the hall, steadily she got out of bed. Greeting her father with a smile who handed her some fish to settle her stomach, "Father, I need to restock on some herbs today, is there anything else needed while I am out?" her father watched her sleepily, "No Astrid, all is fine here" she kissed him on the forehead, whispering a goodbye. She picked up her satchel, pulling it over her head, and fixed her fur cloak around her. She nodded again at her father before heading out the cottage door.

Her breath could be seen as she exhaled, her mood relaxed as she headed towards the small market place at the centre of the village.

Magnus nodded as Astrid dismissed the former slaves. The woman took some of the baggage from his arms and Magnus was thankful for that. It had been and long night and he was tired. "Farewell, Astrid. May the gods protect you until we meet again." The swede slurred, still drunk on mead. He watched as her shape melted into the darkness found in between the many rows of huts. She was indeed beautiful, he thought. Astrid reminded him of his previous wife in some ways, her calm personality, the way her face looked, even their voices were similar. Maybe he'd profess his admiration for her someday. But for now, Magnus was just a lonely, violent, drunk. His last thoughts were of Astrid's shining face before his limbs became as heavy as lead, his world turned black, and he passed out drunk on the dirt street.

Azura had bluntly complained to Agnar about the bed the night before, stumbling her way into the room. If Azura hadn't been so drunk, she would've attempted to lock pick the doors with some straw. Azura hadn't thought about her family for a long time, until last night while she dreamed, she had flashbacks of the past, when her mother tucked her in, her older brothers, when she used to play with them in the yard, etc. Azura's dreams had went from dreams to nightmares quickly, her dreams went to the night her family was killed, years of slavery, to the day she was taken from Mercia.

That morning, Azura could not remember the night from before, she only remembered a couple drinks with Astrid, but the rest of the night was blank. Azura did however wake up with a massive hangover, putting her in a sour mood. She sat in the straw bed, brushing her hands through her hair, she hadn't showered in Gods know how long.

(Love triangle?)

"My lord" Agnar opened his eyes, sitting up in his bed, he hadnt drunk alot of mead the night before so he woke up rather well. Standing at the door of his room was Utte, one of the warriors who had come on the raid in Mercia. "What is it?" Astrid asked "Earl Syvl for Svelgen has arrived, he has heard of our great raid, he waits outside the hall" Agnar yawned getting out of bed as Utte left the room. He quickly dressed into his Earl clothing and walked out into the great hall, several of his guards stood nearby as the doors to the great hall were opened, revealing a blonde haired man with a braided beard, Earl Syvl.

(I suppose so... unless the Slaves stop resisting :P )

Astrid watched the party enter the Hall, curiosity brought her to follow the crowd into the hall. Her eyes fell on the blonde haired man, knowing exactly why he was here, she took her place quietly at the back, her father had heard news and entered the hall not long after her, taking a seat further up the hall with the other men. A yawn slipped her lips, causing her to stretch sleepily, soon Agnar had entered the hall which made her sit up straight, fixing her hair to one side.

Azura brushed her hair, using her hands, and redid her hair as it was, hearing voices distantly, Azura got up and put her head to the door, trying to listen in on the conversation.

"Welcome Earl Syvl" Agnar spoke, holding out his arms as if gesturing to the hall. He noticed that an audience started to fill the room and noticed Astrid sitting among the crowd, as he looked at her he curled his hair idly before looking back at the Earl. "Earl Agnar, i heard of you're raid to England and that you plundered great treasure with ease" The Earl's voice was deep. Agnar looked at the Earl's party, he had brought a few men with him and a young and attractive woman, probably his daughter, Agnar guessed what was coming next.

A sharp pain sparked through Magnus's wrist as some idiot in the streets stepped on it. Cursing, the swede got to his feet, the day was clear and the sun was merrily shining high in the sky. But the wonderment was short-lived as his head seemed to ring like a bell. Why did he have to drink so much? Stumbling behind a house, the man vomited up the contents of his stomach, wiping his mouth with his sleeve afterwords. Magnus grunted as he stepped back into the streets, the light was blinding, forcing him to narrow his eyes. But a commotion near the great hall caught his attention. It looked as though another earl was visiting, probably to fawn over Agnar's success in England. Intent to not inturupt this meeting, Magnus just leaned against the doorway, watching the scene fold out.

She noticed the pretty woman amongst the men, she knew what was next, Astrid sat uncomfortably, shifting as her eyes flicked from Agnar to the pretty woman, Earl Syvl was a very powerful man, and so, like Agnar had said last night, he got many offers.

She felt sick, the mead from last night probably, getting to her feet she avoided any eye contact, storming out of the hall past Magnus not saying a word. She did not look back but continued down to the wharf, the markets will be dead with the visiters in the hall, she rested against one of the poles sticking on of the wharfs that rooted it into place.

Earl Syvl continued talking but Agnar was barely listening as he watched over his shoulder as Astrid stood up and stormed out of the hall, was she.. jealous? "-to raid with you when you return to england-" Agnar wanted to follow her but knew it would be disrespectful to walk out before the Syvl had finished speaking "- I also offer my daughter, Porrun in marriage" Agnar looked for Syvl to his daughter, she was attractive and Earl Syvl was said to have roughly the same amount of men as himself, meaning that they could get twenty times as much loot when they returned to england if they demand a sum from the King to leave. "I accept your offer to raid with my men when we return to England although i need to consider your marriage proposal" The room erupted into quiet murmurs, it was a rather surprising decision that he did not accept the marriage offer straight away, but Astrid was on his mind.

Decthalia had woken up with the little girl in her arms from last nights encounters on the street. The little girl was scared and didn't know what was going on, Decthalia knew that she couldn't care for a child so young and plus she wasn't ready to give this little girl all she could have since Decthalia was far from home with no resources. Decthalia got up and the little girl followed her from the barn that they had slept in and she went over to a near by house which had many kids playing outside, about three or four but there were a lot. Decthalia told the little girl that she couldn't care for her but she didn't say anything, Decthalia met with a women who seemed to be pregnant or maybe that was her size,"Please...this little girl is far from home and needs someplace warm and a loving family to care for her." Decthalia said and the women went over to take a look at the little girl and she smiled and nodded and took the girl in with open arms as well as her husband. They were a household of all boys and this little girl happened to be a gift from heaven.

As Decthalia left she waved goodbye and went on her way. Decthalia was hungry and hadn't eaten all day so she saw a small pub and walked in. She was only carrying a few coins with her but that would get her a good meal around these parts.

Azura had heard the whole thing from the door, she felt a tinge of sympathy for Astrid, she looked like she liked Agnar. But then she did get jealous of the redhead, so Azura was a little confused. Azura grabbed a handful of straw and started to silently attempt to pick the lock with the straw, she had done it before, but with a knife, not straw.

Astrid stood staring out at the water, her stomach easing as she ate more of the salted fish her father gave her this morning. Her fingers now oily from the fish, she sat down on the wharf, dipping her hands into the water. The chill from the water made her hands turn pink, the water called to her, she wished to bathe. Astrid pulled herself back onto her feet, dusting the back of her dress as she walked back down the wharf. She walked the banks a little, putting some distance between her and the village, she could fight, but she would be easily overpowered by any man in the village. The morning was peacful, the calls of birds and bugs hummed in the air, judging her distance from the village she stopped, undressing herself making sure everything was folded neatly in a pile on the shore. Her bare body hurried to the water, only pausing to feel the wave break against her legs, she dived into the surf, a chill running through her body as she listened to the silence the water provided. Her mind at peace as she floated.

Magnus wrinkled his brow as Astrid stormed past him. The visiting earl had offered his daughter's hand in marriage to Agnar, and it was quite obvious that Astrid had eyes for Agnar. But it was enough thinking for now, due to his pounding headache. So, Magnus took to catching up with Astrid, whom he was far more interested in than this rather tiresome meeting. Walking along the warf, he could see silver porpoises surface here and there, gulls screeching above them. As he kept strolling, he came across a neatly folded mound of clothing, and before he could even think, he was gawking at a nude, bathing Astrid. He wanted to avert his eyes, for she was a free woman, but Magnus somehow couldn't. "Uhh...hello?" He said in his deep, rumbling voice, still gawking.

Astrid turned, her eyes wide with shock, "Oh, Magnus" She sunk down so the water covered her body, only showing her head and neck. She had gotten carried away with the silence and peace of everything. Her eyes glazed at Magnus, "Why are you not in the hall with the others?" she called to him on the shore, she swam closer to make it easier to hear him, "Earl Syvl is a powerful man, do you not want to see what he has to offer our Earl?" she frowned, as water swirling around her hands as she kept herself afloat.

"Uhhh..." Shaking his head, Magnus allowed himself to stop acting like a complete idiot. "I saw you run out. You looked frustrated." Magnus began to find it hard for his pale blue eyes not to travel to Astrid's chest, though it was covered by the dark indigo water. She soon asked why he hadn't stayed to see what the visiting earl had to offer. Scratching his head Magnus sighed. "There's nothing else to see. He just wants to marry off his daughter by the looks of it." It was an unusually hot summer day and the glowing orb that was the sun seemed to be higher in the sky than ever. "But..." Magnus wasn't used to all this small talk, he was normally a very straightforward person. "I just wanted to see if you were alright." The man brushed his blonde hair out of his eyes and he seated himself on a large, flat rock.
