Realistic or Modern Age of Vikings (Always Accepting!)

"Bring food and Ale for the Earl and his men" Agnar decided after more talking about the riad. Suddenly Magnus and Agnar came in to view of his shoulder. He felt sick- or jealousy when Astrid kissed him on the cheek. Earl Syvl followed Agnar's eyes, spotting Astrid "Ah, i see why you declined my offer" He spoke, almost gravely.

After the men were seated and eating, Agnar decided to check on his slave but found that Astrid was already tending to her with a bucket of warm water. "Astrid" He said half as a greeting, not knowing where they stood. He leaned against the door frame, ignoring Azura.

Loud steps would slowly sound from outside of the front doors, two boots stopping in front of the door briefly as the man outside looked it over. This was his opportunity, these people. He suddenly stepped forward and pushed both doors out away from him, walking into the main hall. A grin ran over the Pol's face, stopping in front of the center hearth as his hand rested on his belt. Aron was rugged, dirty from days of trouble and scarred from various fights, his priorities quickly shifted from his hygiene. His eyes wandered over to the group, before landing on who was said to be the earl. He finally spoke up, his accent confirming that he was foreign. "I have an offer!" He spoke with a . He was not a Viking at all, in truth, despite dressing the type. He was nothing but an eastern barbarian, trying to cut a quick deal.

Magnus awoke to the sound of footsteps. He must've fallen asleep outside the room where Agnar kept Azura. Rubbing his eyes, he caught sight of Agnar himself, but, he was seeming to pay no attention to the man slumped against the wooden framework, so Mangus just gave him a quick nod as he passed. After a few minutes of talking between Agnar and Astrid, a newcomer entered the scene, his accent alone gave Magnus a reason to clutch his axe. He was a Slav. Ever since his raids into Rus, Magnus had always been uneasy around Slavs, and unlike the Saxons of England, they could put up a fight.

Inghard woke with a haze, groaning and touching the tender bottom of his lip. He didn't remember much of their brawl, but only that the woman he'd taken as his slave was not a bad fighter. She'd caught him off guard with her first punch, but he'd been quick to finish her off with a heavy blow to her stomach. Or so he remembered. Most of the night was a blur.

Rolling out of the small bed in the hut he called home, he walked into the center room and threw a pot of porridge over the fire

Decthalia made her way to the boat to look for anything that she thought was maybe valuable. Decthalia boarded the ship and thought about leaving but she needed more time to gather a few things first. Decthalia went down to the lower level of the boat and looked around, she saw a few apples and fruits so she took some and began eating. Decthalia was a long way from home, but she knew she wasn't alone.

“Leiknir- Uh, Sir, wake up, please,” Leiknir heard a pleasant voice say, in English, as someone gently touched his shoulder. He slowly opened his eyes, but covered them with his hands as the morning light crept through his window.

“What treachery is this,” he whispered, as his head was pounding, eyes squeezed shut. “This must be the work of Loki,” he groaned, rubbing at his temples. The soft hands stroked his hair, as he tried to sit up. That was a mistake, of course, and he lay back down. “What happen last night,” he asked, in English, as it registered that the one speaking to him must be Sarnat, his redheaded slave.

“Well, Sir, you…”

“You can call Leiknir,” he interrupted, “I am not Earl. Few understand you anyway. Not important.” He opened one eye a sliver, to see her smiling down at him, and he grinned, barely managing to keep the eyes shut. “You clean now,” he said, happily, seeing her without the grime all over her hair and face for the first time. Her skin so fair, her hair so bright- simply wonderful. ‘My mother bathed you, yes?” She nodded, smiling.

“Your mother was very kind to me, Leiknir,” Sarnat said, happily. “And she speaks my language better than you do!” She laughed, causing Leiknir to wince.

“I never have head pain so… wicked, Sarnat,” Leiknir said, both eyes closed once again.

“You drank too much, Leiknir. It happens. You had over a dozen tankards full, and there I was: I could barely finish one!” She managed to keep her voice down, out of consideration for Leiknir’s hangover.

Leiknir let out a big “Bwahaha” laugh, then he groaned as his head throbbed. “And to think,” he said, switching back to his own tongue, “The harshest battle, after all I’ve been through, is getting out of bed in the morning.” He shook his head, as he slowly got out of bed, facing his fiercest challenge head on. “How I get home? You not carry me,” he said, grinning. She looked at him and scoffed.

“You walked by yourself. Or… Hobbled, I suppose; I just supported you. Some of the men told me where you lived. I suppose it is lucky your house is so close to the great hall. I couldn’t have carried you far. One of your friends passed out on the ground somewhere, I saw him.”

“Not luck. My father was close friend of Earl Agnar’s father. Built close, always ready to defend Earl. Now, why wake me? Something happen?” He was slightly unsteady, but he was looking better every minute.

“I don’t think it is anything bad, Leiknir. Many people are gathered at the Earl’s hall. You should probably go, too.” She looked to him, now fully on his feet and changing his clothes. She sighed as she watched him, and he grinned at her.

“I go now. Help Mother do chores. Do what she says.” Sarnat nodded, and went to find Leiknir’s mother. Leiknir was finally ready to go, wearing truly clean clothes for the first time in several weeks. He wore his shield and his axes, not that he expected to have to use them within the village. He strolled outside, and made his way to the great hall.

Leiknir saw Magnus staring down a stranger. There were many strangers in the hall, but the rest were clearly fellow Northmen, only this one was dressed differently.

“Good morning Magnus,” he said, cheerfully. He stood next to Magnus, and looked at the stranger, the smile quickly fading into a flat line. “And good morning, stranger. Who are you?” Leiknir stroked his beard with one hand, the other dangling near an axe, as he stared at the stranger.

Her eyes flicked up to meet Agnar's, she was unsure what to say to him. She swallowed loudly turning to Azura, "you are lucky today, privacy has been granted" she got to her feet and dismissed herself, heading passed Agnar into the hall, grabbing him by his elbow as she did. "Let the girl wash in peace" she spoke calmly, closing the door. She let go of Agnar's elbow, she could feel the tension in the air, her eyes focused on the new comer, her hand rested on a bone dagger tucked into a pouch of her satchel.

Agnar's eyes drifted to the bone dagger that Astrid had rested her hand on, slightly worried. "I denied Earl Syvl's marriage proposal" He announced to her, unaware that she already knew "Are you going to stick me with that?" He jokingly nodding at her dagger while also trying to break the tension between them. He looked back to her face, she looked beautiful this morning, even without the mead from last night.

@Sharkiee

Astrid watched Magnus as Agnar spoke, "you are my Earl, just like every other man in this village, I will stick by you, you are our leader" she spoke formly. Her eyes met with his again "plus you are stupid for declining such a pretty woman" she punched his softly in the arm, "we can talk later, right now I believe you have a guest" she signaled to the men standing around in defensive stances, and the Slav in the middle.

@JacobLoL

Agnar nodded, he had something to tell her later. He turned to look at the man standing at the door to the hall. "I have an offer!" He announced, the man's accent was clearly not Northern but Eastern. He walked into the middle of the room, close to where Earl Syvl and his men were eating and drinking "And what is your offer?" He asked, a few of his warriors stood up, sensing a threat.

Aron lpoked each of the Vikings in front of him over, noting the on who grabbed their ax handle. The large slave returned a wink back to him, beginning to step around the corner

fire and talk. ".. I was out about your your docks and saw your ships. Quite a good number of ships." He paused for a moment, scratching his beard before speaking again. "In short, Earl. I want to trade my horses for one of your ships. And join all you on your raids west." A Slav joining a viking raid was something unheard of, and he knew he wasn't about to be making anyone happy with those words.

@JacobLoL @John Raptorfist @Anyone else in group

(Sorry about short posts guys, been stuck on my phone.)

Agnar looked at the Slav as he spoke, his ships were far to precious for him to trade and were a source of great wealth for him, trading any one of them meant he would have to take less men on his next raid. "You want one of my ships?" Agnar replied, putting his knee up on of the chairs of his table, before breaking out into laughter. The room mimicked him, also breaking out into laughter. "Im afraid i have to decline your offer" He spoke finally "and as for joining us, i dont think my men would appreciate an easterner fighting along side them".

Decthalia began to look through a few barrels and she saw a weapons bin. She pulled it out from under a brown rag which had a few holes in it, she popped open the bin and began checking out a few of the weapons. She pulled out an axe and began testing it's sharpness against the wooden barrel and she watched as it left a hole in one of the bins. Decthalia put the axe down by her side while she dug through the bin for more weapons.

Needless to say Malina lost her attempted defiance. While she was quick she had been unable to match his strength.

She sighed as she sat outside, the crisp air was oddly refreshing. She could easily see herself living here if she had wanted.

But she came to find out who her father was and she could not deviate from that. Not for anything or anyone.

No matter how much the blonde raider enticed her.

Throwing away the end of her herbal tea she got up and headed back inside and came face to face with Inghard

@Ruckingdom293

Astrid waited for a while, watching the men talk. She grew bored of the talk of battle and chose to leave the hall. Walking down the busy street toward the small market place in the center of the village, it was busy with the constant hum of bargaining and bartering. She smiled, she missed how busy it always was. She stopped at a stall that overwhelmed with the smell of fish, her nose wrinkled slightly as she approached. Scanning the the counter, picking out 2 large fish, she handed over a piece of silver, the man wrapped it in a pale cloth handing it back to her, his face stressed with the crowd calling him around his stall. She smiled turning to leave the growing group.

Azura jumped at the sound of Agnar's voice, instantly trying to cover herself. Azura had a great body, she had nice curves and had a slender form, but scars remained across her body, not scabs but scars, especially on her back, where she had multiple large scars as if she had been whipped in the past. Thankfully Astrid got up and left with Agnar, leaving her to bathe in peace.

Azura let out a sigh of relief, instantly relaxing again. Azura scrubbed down the places she could touch with her bonds, scrubbing the grim off her body, she was able to clean her front side of her body, just not her back. Azura sighed out of frustration, attempting to scrub her back. She paused however to listen to the conversation outside. She heared an easterner, and his request. Then laughter as Agnar declined it. "God damn he's a dick" Azura said to herself as she continued to attempt to scrub her backside.

Aron frowned as his request was rejected the way it was. He knew the Viking leader would reject it, but he was left for a few moments in thought of how to negotiate. He let out a short cough, glancing off in the general direction of the bay. "My people have been fighting on horseback for thousands of years." He paused for a moment, pointing off westward to exaggerate his point. "I know how to deal with their horse riders, and that's going to be vital for you. You ever see a hundred men charge you on horseback? No shield wall will block that mess." He crossed his arms afterward, looking back to the supposed leader of the group for a moment. "Let me raid with your ships, you won't see a man on atop horse for miles." He finally finished, keeping his ice eyes on the man in front of him. This could be hard.

@JacobLoL

Agnar thought on the Slav's words, looking up at him, the whole room was listening now, including Earl Syvl and his daughter. Horses would be useful but there was a problem. "The problem is.. you cant take horses across the sea" Agnar paused "So they are no use to me". It was true Agnar didnt know how to fight against men on horseback very well and he might be being a bit arrogant but from what he could see at this point, the slav had little to offer on their raid to England.

Aron rolled his shoulders after the man spoke, giving a nod back in return to the leader as he began to speak back immediately. "That's why you're keeping them here. You have farmers, yes? I can teach them to put the steeds to work, wouldn't imagine you'd mind a larger food stock? Way I see it, now's your best time to get working on those crops, not many do well when the snows fall." He finished his short argument back to the man as he looked at the others around the group, inspecting them out of curiosity. The most notable feature of the slave would be the long bladed bardiche that was slung over his back, featuring a long and heavy axe head that lead down to a good length. The thing looked like it could be used to sweep someone's head off, obviously with little use of thrusting with its long curved blade.

Magnus's pale eyes darted from Agnar to the Slav as each one spoke. Apparently, this idiot wanted to sell some horses for the Earls ships. He scoffed at the offer, joining in when Agnar laughed. "You think us fools?" He said to the newcomer in Slavic to get his attention. It had been a while since Magnus had used the Slavic language, and it felt forgien on his tounge. The last time he had used it was when an old Rus woman had taught him and his father when the winter came early on a raiding trip, choking the rivers with ice. So, they just waited in some dingy Slav village all winter. They people turned out to be friendly...for the most part. But, surprisingly enough, they seemed to be even larger drunkards than the Norsemen. "Perun guide you." He said sarcastically, also in Slavic, remembering the commonly used send-off from that fateful winter. After a while more of babble between the slav and his Earl, Magnus noted Astrid leaving. Maybe he'd meet up with her again sometime today. When he was with her, it seemed as though all his stress and anger melted away.

Inghard looked up from the bubbling pot of porridge and saw Malina enter his home. He stood straight and pointed over at a table, where there were a couple of fish that needed gutted and prepared for cooking later.

He turned and headed into the back, the only other room in the house, and retrieved two wooden bowls. Placing them on the edge of the hearth he poured the sloppy mess into each one. He offered one bowl to her.

"Finish the fish, then come to the longhouse. And if I ever see you holding a blade again I will not hesitate," he said, though there wasn't too much menace in his voice.

He was too busy thinking about his up coming proposal to Agnar.

Aron's attention shifted over to Magnus as he spoke to him, maintaining a quizzical expression as he shrugged. "If I thought you fools I would have tried to steal them. But you're not fools, and neither am I." He smiled at him as finished his statement, looking back over to the leader as he spoke again. "I could begin teaching the one's that will stay behind how to work with the steeds by dawn, if we can begin moving toward an agreement." He let his thumb hang on the cloth belt around his waist, raising his brow at the leader as he awaited his word.

Decthalia left the boat and began roaming the streets again looking for something to do or someone to talk to. She wondered where everyone was and what everyone was doing but she didn't feel like showing her face again. Decthalia walked into the Earls hall and began looking around, she opened the door to another room and walked in. It was the kitchen where the servants were making the meals, she took a piece of bread and began breaking it apart to put into her mouth one small piece at a time.

Grimacing at the Slav, Magnus finally got to feet with a grunt and walked out of the room. This diplomacy was becoming tiresome. The tall swede soon found himself in the bustling streets of the marketplace. People zipped from stand to stand, vendors shouted about how great their Goods were. Good thing he wasn't still hungover, Magnus thought, otherwise this entire scene would've been a nightmare. It wasn't long until he had spotted Astird, it looked as though she had just purchased some fish from and stand and was now walking away. He walked up from behind the woman, suddenly taking her hand and leading her forward. "Come with me." He said without waiting for her to say anything in return.

@Sharkiee

Agnar watched as Magnus left the hall and had a feeling that he would be running into Astrid, he could increasingly see that the two of them both had an interest in her. Agnar wanted to finish the negotiations quickly so he could leave the hall too. "Let me consider your proposal, stick around and i will have an answer for you by the end of the day, for now i must attend to some business" Agnar quickly walked past the slav and out of the hall, he watched from afar as Magnus took Astrid's hand and started to lead her forward, he felt jealousy again as he watched the pair.
