Realistic or Modern Age of Vikings (Always Accepting!)

Astrid returned to check on the wounded woman, a laugh escaped her lips, "I'm afraid you'll have to get use to that my dear" she ignored Magnus and his oversharing. She grabbed at Azura's arm checking to see if any blood had started to seep out, if it had it would require fresh bandages, "you're very brave, dispite the circumstances" she forced the small talk, hoping it would relax the woman, she had yet to acknowlegde Decthalia, the men would surely be keeping an eye on her. Astrid's watched the woman though, if she were to act out, Astrid would probably be the only one here that wouldn't kill her, but she couldn't stop the men if they got to her first.

"If you believe in whats right and wrong then you'll have the courage to do anything." She said as she was still holding onto her dagger just in case something happened. She knew all eyes were on her and she didn't sweat one bit about it since she was used to this kind of attention and atmosphere. "Do they treat you this way?" She asked the young girl who seemed to be about a year younger then her. Decthalia felt the sway of the boat in the water and she heard the sound of the birds flying around them. Decthalia could hear the waves gently brushing and throwing itself onto the boat, and the scent of the salty sea swarmed the air. @Sharkiee

Azura watched lazily as she pushed him away and backed away with a dagger. She started counting up with her fingers as she spoke "Annoying, whiny, talkative, too cuddly. I mean really just cut their throats and be done with it." Azura said heartlessly and bluntly, saying it somewhat matter of factly. She let Astrid check her bandages. Azura grimaced at Astrid's statement of getting used to it. "Brave is one word." Azura muttered more to herself. As long as she wasn't anywhere near that, she'd be just fine.

Astrid's face softened, "Well, they would if they had reason too" she shrugged, "It is just how my people are, I do not bother to question it" she swayed with the boat, her eyes staring straight into the womans, "Does that bother you?" she frowned, "I am a free woman, I am respected amoung these men" she cleared her throat, "as long as I respect my father, or in futrure, my husband I have no reason to fear them" her jaw set in a hardline, she looked back at Azura, to her these woman were her equals, but to the men it was different.

Malina sat and listened with the assembled group of women. She had been allowed to keep her weapons as she had not harmed anyone.

Listening to Azura's idea of killing the children, she tightened her grip on them.

"
Try it and I promise you won't get far before you are the one cut down"

She did not snarl or even get angry. Her calm appearance made the threat more unsettling.

"And trust me, I know how to make someone suffer"

She finished the threat ominously before moving to sit by Astrid.

"
Is there any way I can help?"

She tried explaining to the healer, since she had helped her own peoples healer when she was younger she had a basic understanding of how to help.

Astrid smiled at the offer of help, she was one of the only healers on this journey, and whole exhibition had been exhausting, "if you don't mind checking the men's bandages, and if any are seeping through let me know, I will need to boil up some more cloth" she turned back to her small fire, pulling dry cloth out of a sack near her belongings. Tossing them into the boiling mixture of herbs, she begun to stir them, her mind wondering as she stared off into the land they had just raided.

Azura just returned an unsettling cold smirk, tilting her head. "I suggest you know who you threaten." Azura said cooly and calmly back. Azura was unsettling. She was negative, sarcastic blunt and seemingly unafraid and calm. She seemed to have no moral compassion or empathy, basically heartless, wether it was good or bad was up to other people's decision. Azura started to hum a soft lullaby, the tone was depressing but pretty. She remembered when her mother used to sing the lullaby to her, it was a Bulgarian lullaby. While she hummed however her face remained empty and emotionless as she stared at the burning town. She huddled under her blanket, leaning against the wood of the ship.

A day had passed since the the raid on the Mercian town and the viking ships sailed back towards home at full speed, Odin had smiled upon them and given the Vikings favourable wind. Agnar sat at the front of his ship, watching Azura curiously, her hands along with all the other slaves, had been bound and her weapons siezed. "You" Agnar said, breaking the silence that had rested upon his ship, he motioned for Azura to come towards him.

It had been a day, and the boats rocked in the mild winds of the North Sea. Magnus was whiddling a small Raven out of a nice peice of birch, throwing the light colored shavings into the grey water. Suddenly he spoke to his slave, "The question you asked earlier? About why I wanted to kill these children? It is because what kind of life could we give them? It is better to put the young ones out of their misery, than to than to let them live their entire lives in...this." He mumbled, continuing with his carving.

The last few days had been relatively quiet. As expected, the weapons were taken from them but as time went on she could see the truth.

The children were suffering...terribly. As the days went by she was thinking maybe taking their lives would be merciful, if this was what

the rest of their lives was to become. With slightly trembling hands she spoke to Astrid.

"
I...I think they may be right, it may be a mercy to...to ease the childrens suffering"

She felt disgusted at herself for the task she would have to do but it was the only way to let them go.

Azura had been silent the past couple of days, occasionally making negative comments. Azura looked up as Agnar, as she had heard his name, called her got up and started walking over, however talk of killing the children had started up and she turned to the black haired woman, who cared the most for the children "I told you." Azura hissed before approaching Agnar. "What." She said negatively.

Inghard was laying down against the corner of the boat, tucked away comfortably and resting on a couple of furs. "We survived, and these children might yet get to know the gods," he said, eyes still closed.

He snorted a little and readjusted himself, opening up one blue eye to stare at Malina with curiosity. "They are not yours, i take it?"

She turned to face him, while journeying she had picked up enough of their language to be able to speak to them.

"
No, but I came to care for them as my own"

She looked down at the floor beneath her feet. She would do it herself, she owed them that much. She was brewing a tea that would put them to sleep.

Once that was done it would be a quick swipe and it would be all over.

Agnar yawned before speaking to the boat "We will not kill the children" He paused "Not yet atleast". He was the Earl, meaning that he was in charge. Agnar turned his head to Azura "You killed many of men, it will be difficult to keep you alive, especially when i introduce you to their families".

Inghard scowled, "You will not harm them," he said plainly, going back to sleep. He adjusted his body slightly, wincing as he nestled into the hull. "I have claimed them as I claimed you." As he said that, it was the end of the matter. The children would survive if the gods willed it, and he would not see them killed before then. If they perished on the journey, so be it, but it would not be by human hands.

He woke at the sound of his earl speaking, and frowned. "Forgive me, Earl Agnar, but why not let them kill her? Why sacrifice her to Odin and the gods? Surely they would rather us mount her head on a spike and be done with the matter, or let the families of the dead tear her apart," he said.

"...A better life than having them meet with god at such a early age." Decthalia said with a slight accent that sounded like a Romanian accent. "If you did not want them to live their lives here then why kill their families, you are the reason they are here." She told him but didn't raise her voice. All she was looking at was the man and how he was carving what seemed to look like a bird of some sort. Decthalia shook her head, she hated men like him who thought killing people was only to put them out of their misery after they had carelessly kidnapped them.

She released a shuddering breath, thanking the gods that she could stop.

She was exhausted and she had let Azura's words get to her.

She did not plan on letting it happen again

Taking the tea she brewed she dumped it overboard, it was useless now.

With a sigh she went to check the supplies, She had helped Astrid with attending the injuries of those on the boat.

She looked back to Inghard.

"
Do you have anything that needs tending?"

She indicated to the bandages she was gathering

@Ruckingdom293

Inghard frowned, his eyes still closed. "Sleep, that's what," he said gruffly. He had no interest in anything right now except rest.

His mind drifted to his home, as it always did when he was idle, remembering the small fjord side village. A small smile appeared on his face without him knowing, and he could almost hear his father calling to him.

Malina rolled her eyes at the gruff answer she got.

Sometimes she swore they were more boys than men, the way they acted sometimes.

She got to work on cleaning and re-bandaging some of the wounds of the men.

While their only thanks was a nod, she said nothing more.

They were being courteous, so she could try the same.

When she was done, with an exhausted groan she threw herself down on the furs to sleep for a while.

Cleaning up the the last details on the small figurine, Mangus cut a small hole into the head of the raven using the tip of his seax, grunting as he reached over to his small, personal supply pile. He shuffled around the various materials and items before his hand reached a small length of braided leather. It was dark brown, almost maroon in color. Looping the braid through the incision he ad made in the raven, Magnus had created a necklace of sorts. "You see, our land isn't very fertile, the soil is dark, but very rocky. We must raid to survive. Not only for wealth but to support our own. Even if that means slaughtering a few measly peasants. Just for the record, I never wanted these children to come with us." He mumbled in his deep growl, the calm breeze flowing through his blonde hair. "Do you have a name?" The man asked for the second time as he stood up and placed the necklace around his slave's neck.

@sprouhtt

Annoyed at being woken, again, by the constant chatter, Inghard sat up suddenly, glaring at Magnus.

"Why do you bother explaining our ways to these foreigners. So we raid and kill for plunder. It makes us rich, and that is good," he said matter of factly.

He turned to the woman Magnus had been conversing with, "Tell me, are we really so different from your people? When you wage war, do they leave the riches of another alone? Are you really so superior to us?" He asked, flicking his fingers towards her face with a snarl.

Malina was so exhausted she was completely oblivious to the tense discussion going on,

She had fashioned some sort of nest from the furs and had fallen asleep curled up like a cat.

She groaned slightly and stretched out her back

"For the sake of the gods why can't people not argue"

She sat up and stretched, hearing a satisfying click in her back.

Jan felt that he had enough of his alone time and decided to see the others in this ship, the skies, blowing wind and the cold wood are the things that helped him clear his mind and it greatly improves his concentration. He never was a talkative one, however faint talks about children, slaves and the rest caught his ear and he's certainly interested. Putting both of his hands behind his back he approached the children being talked about. The arguing is clear from what he heard, but his attention is focused on the children "Ah, we have visitors? New faces and fresh bodies?" A small chuckle accompanied his last comment as he started to move around the younger ones trying to see each of them from different angles "I like these ones!" The grin on his face becomes wider as he taps his chin thinking about their possible uses.

Azura grimaced as Agnar stated the children would live. She turned to the group arguing about the children with an icy stare stating "Did I mention they were... Unnecessary. " she hissed coldly to the group before turning to Agnar. She let out an annoyed groan at his words. Then her face got curious "I wonder the same thing actually. Why keep me alive?" She asked tilting her head to the side a bit.

"Because, i like you" Agnar replied, he quite liked her fighting spirit and her knowledge of England and if he could befriend her she would be a valuable asset when they raided England again "I am Earl, but even that may not be enough to stop the families killing you" He continued, grinning as he leant back against the ship.
