Realistic or Modern Age of Vikings (Always Accepting!)

The fire now alight she began to warm, her thoughts taking her to when Magnus lived here, would he be standing next to her, she stared off to the side for a moment, snapping back to reality with a shake of her head. "What is a sin?" She managed out. She sat looking up at the man dressed in robes, his age showing by the corners of his features.

@The Elusive Shadow

"Ah yes , 'sins' we all are born in sin and it is for this reason the lord had to send his only son to absolve us of them . Their are seven cardinal sins as I recall "

Pierre cleared his throat as he began to recite each one

" these seven sins an abomination unto the lord .... they are , A vain look , A lying tongue ,Hands that shed innocent blood ,A heart that conducts wicked acts , Feet that be swift in running to mischief , A false witness that speaks lies ,He that sows discord among brethren "

@Sharkiee

She didn't understand much of what he spoke, all sounding like words thrown together, "a heart that conducts wicked acts?" She spoke softly, this out of all stood out the most, "what do you mean by this?" She frowned, pulling her knees to her chest she rested her cheek against them, feeling like a child being told a tale.

Agnar had just finished putting on his armour which was relatively light when Inghard entered the room. He continued strapping in his chain mail laced leather armour as he listened to Inghard speak. "Earl Syvl will not join us in this endeavour" He replied to him, remembering that Syvl had only agreed to join in on the next raid. Agnar picked up one of his swords and his shield and walked out of his room and out of the great hall. Stopping at the door, he looked out upon Egersund, his army had gathered and from what Agnar had learnt from his scouts, Earl Haron had a larger army but if they could sieze Hagevik and kill the small amount of defenders there before the main army arrived, they would have an even chance at defeating him.

SHORT TIME SKIP

Less then an hour later Agnar was marching his army towards Hagevik at a quick pace, aiming to surprise the town before they could be alerted by Aron and Magnus.

@Ruckingdom293

Despite Agnar's words, Astrid followed the army, she knew she would be needed, she offered Pierre a change of clothes to mask who he was, he had convinced her that him and his God was needed in the land. She dressed dull, nothing to draw attention to herself, though she was not trained for much combat she disguised herself as a shieldmaiden, keeping her distance from Agnar, knowing full well he would send her marching home with a couple of man to help her.

(@The Elusive Shadow totally just dragging you along)

Pierre clung to his hooded robe tightly he knew that being found out before the right moment would be disastrous , so he waited crouched and behind Astrid .

"How long do you think until reach the battlefield ? Will we have to march much further ? "

He was anxious , he had seen in his vision the strength of the people they would face , would god really provide aid to these pagans , with his blessings ...

Azura kept reminding herself it was just an act as Aron roughly pulled her from the wagon by her wrist. As followed grudgingly but slowly, considering it was very painful on putting any weight on her leg. She but her lip to silence any groans of pain or objection. She stayed silent as they walked in, she was so gonna kill Aron fit putting her through this pain.

Astrid shrugged, "I couldn't say.." she whispered for only Pierre to hear. Around them were heavy armored men and woman, she pat a man on the shoulder causing him to turn around, she looked up at him with a smile, "the woman are asking how further we must go?" She asked innocently, "can you be so kind as to run ahead and ask the Earl?" She tucked a hair behind her ear still smiling at him. He agreed heading up the ranks to speak with Agnar about their position. She hoped that man did not recognized her, though she imagined he didn't quite care, everyone was probably all wondering the same.

(Posting now but I'm heading to the range for a few)

Inghard marched alongside Agnar, a hauberk of mail underneath his leather chest piece. He rested his hand on the top of the axe looped through his belt, his shield slung over his shoulder.

"As I said before. My mission to the town was secret. Not even the traitors will be able to notify Hakon of the uprising. But once we take the town, he will still have his army. My advice," he said briefly. "Try not to lose too many men taking the town. If we can get them to surrender all the better. We need everyone for the coming fight."

Agnar nodded, he hoped that the uprising would do most of the work for them so he could save his men for Haron's army that would surely attempt to retake the village. "Earl Agnar!" Agnar turned to see one of his warriors running towards him, he looked at the man, waiting for him to continue "Some of the women are asking how much further it is to Hagevik" The man asked. Agnar considered the man's words "We should arrive just before sunset" He replied, the man thanked him before heading back to his position.

As Mangus and the others stepped into the great hall of the earl, he could feel the heat of a roaring fire againsit his face. The place was warm, to say the least. He watched as the Slav and the earl spoke, keeping silent and only giving a respectful dip of his head. Keeping quiet and letting Aron do all the talking, as he had said earlier. Magnus watched as one of the earl's servants ducked out of the hall. "I need must go relive myself, excuse me." He said quietly, rushing out of the hall. Once he was outside, Magnus grabbed the servant by the back of shirt and into a small opening between two homes. "How does your earl treat you and your people, servant?" He hissed, still clutching the scared-looking man's collar as he spoke. "H-he's cruel, but what does that matter? What do you want with me?!?" Magnus let go of the servant's collar. "Did you hear your sister town has revolted? All because of your earls idiocy I say. Imagine the bread prices now, hm?Tell the people of this town that a descendant of a old king as returned to this land and wishes to overthrow this earl, ending your suffering. Just make sure they can keep a secret." He whispered, pushing the man away. The servant nodded, still looking quite shaken as he scurried off. As nonchalantly as possible, Magnus walked back into the earl's grand hall, placing himself behind Aron.

When the man returned to inform her, she greeted him with the same smile, passing it onto Pierre. She followed the group of people, wondering what she had gotten herself into, if she had picked someone else, what would have been the outcome. She stared at the boots of the man in front of her, not looking just following as she thought to herself.

(Since we did a short time skip I'm going to post as Hakon again)

Leif's story had long concluded, but he had not even addressed the visitors to his hall. But enough hours had passed, and he'd sat through enough lawmaking and judicial disputes for the day.

Yawning, he turned to the foreign visitors. "You four, approach" he said finally, in a bored tone.

Aron began to step forward with his recently brandished bardiche hanging on his back, he let out a short cough as he spoke in a well trained accent. "We are warriors from Egersund who have been betrayed by our unjust Earl.. Agnar, who sailed west to fight the Saxons." He then went to roughly throw the two slaves as evidence in front of him, "These are our Saxon slaves we took upon our raids with Agnar, right before he stripped us of all of our plunder." He grimaced after spoke, looking between each girl before he spoke once more. "Not long after our return to Egersund a man arrived to our villager and claimed himself the rightful Earl to your land. Agnar has taken up his claim and has chosen to fight for him in hopes of power, as we speak the earl marches armies toward your land. If you gather your men now you have hopes of fighting him back, all I ask in return for my warning is that you take my good friend, Magnus alongside you on the field of battle." He reached to his side and put his hand on Magnus' shoulder, deeply nodding once more. "Make haste, Earl."

Magnus nodded to Aron before turning to this foreign earl. "Greetings, Earl Hakon. I look forward to shedding the blood of our enemies, and I look forward to making a lasting alliance with your house." He lied curtly. In the back of his mind, Magnus hoped that the servant he had threatened was spreading the word of his arrival. Magnus needed supporters if he was going survive this.

Azura winced sharply as she was thrown forward, her leg sending a jolt of stinging pain through her body. Azura's eyes lit up in in anger but she said nothing. God she was going to kill Aron when this was over. However Azura just stared at the floor like an "obedient slave".

Leiknir followed the Earl as they marched on towards Hagevik. He’d left Sarnat in Egersund; she could move quick, and that might be enough fighting other Saxons, but Leiknir thought she was just too small to fight against his fellow Northmen. She had accepted, begrudgingly, and stayed with his mother. He approached Agnar, with a grim face.

“I have heard mumbling in the ranks, Earl Agnar- Some of the men think Magnus and that Slav we met the other day have joined with Earl Hakon. I care not about the Slav, but Magnus is my friend.” Leiknir sighed, sad but determined. “If he truly has betrayed us, I ask that you let me fight him myself.” Leiknir looked straight at Agnar, the normally light-hearted Viking’s face as serious as the Earl had ever seen it.

Hakon sat there, in his chair, stroking his beard. He leaned forward and looked at Magnus.

"OUR?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. "Magnus, yes? What makes you think I believe you?" He asked, ignoring Aron. He spoke to well for him to trust, that much Hakon knew.

"Perhaps Agnar is attacking me. Perhaps you are simply trying to deceive me. I have many rivals to my north, and they would love nothing more than for me to march my forces south." He lowered his brow at the group.

He turned to one of the slaves they had brought in. "You, slave girl," he said in a suspicious tone. "You speak our language?" He asked, looking out of the corner of his eye at Aron.

Magnus simply chuckled at Hakon's response, logical though it may be. "I can only give you my word. But, would you really risk your city being burned to the ground? I don't see what I could gain from this. I am but a man, if I were to fool you, your men would have me dead in a heartbeat." He said, cupping his hands together.

This Earl was already getting on Azura's nerves. She wanted to walk up shake him and say "LISTEN YOU DAMN FOOL WILL YOU JUST SHUTUP AND GRAB YOUR ARMY!!" But Azura kept quiet instead, quietly thinking negative thoughts. Azura looked up in surprise however as the Earl addressed her. "Yes" Azura said rather bluntly but softly, her Bulgarian accent thick in her voice.

"Approach," he said, looking at her. "You do not sound like a Saxon," he said bluntly, turning to Magnus with suspicion.

He stood, taking a deep breath. "Perhaps I believe you. But Hagevik is of little concern. I have it a token force to maintain order. My army is strong, and we have been training hard for our own raid west. I am confident that we can take it back," he said, walking down and past Magnus and Aaron.

"Why should I trust you, Magnus," he said, turning a steely gaze to him, then grinning deviously. "Some call me a cynical man. I view it as a strength, however. I do not let those I distrust march in my army. A war band lives and dies together, and I will not ignorantly put chinks in my armor," he explained.

Magnus held out his hands, signaling he had nothing. "Because I am but a simple warrior. I live to die. This man, Agnar has shown us anything but honor." He put simply as he tired to earn Hakon's most simple of trusts. "I tell the truth when I say this vile man marches on your land to the south, I say we meet him halfway. If the element of surprise is on our side, we could overcome them rather easily. Do you really want to look like an embarrassment to your family, sitting idle while your people are slaughtered and your villages raized?"

Azura tensed as he said approach, she wanted to claim she came from England, even though she was Bulgarian, but didn't want to screw anything up. Azura hesitated before approaching the Earl, looking him in the eyes, her eyes held truth in them.

He looked at the slave girl while Magnus spoke, but his gaze shot away towards Magnus when he insulted him. He stepped forward heavily, and the guards and companions around the hearth tenses, reaching for their weapons.

"You should take care of who you speak to so familiarly." He said darkly. He could not deny his statement, of course.

"I need to know I can trust you. That you are not lying about... Anything." He said turning back to Azura.

"Your slave has displeased me. Discipline her, to prove you loyalty to me and your honesty," he said coldly. He was hoping Magnus was harsh on his slaves. It might sate his desires and spare his own a night of punishment.

Magnus looked at him, hard in the eyes. "I am just stating what will happen if you countinue to dawdle like this, my earl." He said through gritted teeth. This earl was irritating, with all of his sneaky ways, the opposite of the very straightforward Magnus. He was now telling Magnus to be harsh on Azura. This...this he could do. Finally, a bit more revenge for all those men she had killed back in England. Magnus quickly stepped forward, sharply kicking the kneeling woman in the ribs with his shin. When she had rolled over slightly, the swede gave her a stomp to the gut. It didn't feel as good as he thought it would. Perhaps because he had actually spent some time with Azura, and began to see her more as a human being. He hoped she'd understand, it was for the plan. "Like that?" Magnus said with a wry grin, looking back up to Hakon.
