Thank. I'll be rewriting lore during my down time, basically gonna move everything closer together (War was only 200ish years ago, Easier to explain unexplored ruins) the very first King is being crowned (Start of the Empire) and the establishment of the Church of Light as the dominant power.
Also gonna cut down the big families from 6 to 2, and they've been warring since the Cinders over habitable land. Marriage between the two families is seen as a cessation of hostilities and the beginning of a new age, but still loads of tension.
Wanna rework Mages a little as well.

Hello lovelies, just wanted to swing by and give an update -
Moved home, we're currently unpacking and settling in. I've been working on revamping lore when I've had time. I should be back in the next 2 weeks I think. Depends when internet is sorted - but I'd like to share the current main updates with you

- War of Cinders was significantly closer to the present day - around 200/300 years ago.
- There were three dragons. Kolaghan was still the biggest of the bads, each was killed by a hero - Meyneth the human champion, Mipha the Elven champion and a unnamed Dwarf.
- Church of Light is significantly smaller scale, only now reaching out into Aether after a century of isolationism and secrecy. Alcamoth is still their Capital city.
- Aether is mostly divided between two powerful human families that have been in a bitter civil war for the last century. The wedding is for the very first King and Queen each from these respective families as the terms of a truce. The very first King, the founding of an empire. Characters who wish to be nobles will answer to one of these families or can in fact be a member.
- Lumen and Dwarves are basically the same. Dwarves may have lost their home to a Dragon during the war - the east is corrupted and evil even now.
- Mages are different. Rituals and God contracts no longer required. Those with the blessing of Magic are still taken by the Church for training. Mages are given a necklace or ring that prevents them from being torn apart by their own magic. All Mages however eventually go mad or disintegrate. (Life span is 50ish years)
- All mages have been having nightmares of a Dragon for the past few years. This spurned the Church into action and contributed to the two families finally deciding a tense truce.
- Alcamoth is a "new" capital city, that has only been open for 4-5 years to the general populace. The population is already booming thanks to the fact its the best defended area in the country, even if they have to love under the watchful eye of the Church.

you've basically got these two families of Cainhurst and Hinokah.
The Cainhursts come from the Human city of Greenvale (now Hollowvale) and have lots of mages within their bloodline. They lean towards dark magic and have a rather unseemly reputation for “Cainhurst madness” surrounding them- believed to be caused in part by their proximity to both Hollowvale and the Deludge Wetlands. Many members of the family have suffered from psychosis, schizophrenia and general instability. They're basically your Slytherins - cunning, ambitious and as cruel to their enemies as they are loyal to their friends.
Then you have Hinokah to the south. Cainhurst are rather Gothic and Victorian, Hinokah are your Japanese samurai/ninja archetype. Hinokah are well known for their mastery of swordplay and sense of honor, but actually have an almost complete lack of magic. They make up for it with more advanced technology (ballistics/bombs/etc) and have the added bonus of not having to live next to Hollowvale.
Anyhow, the two have been in a bitter war for the best part of the last two centuries (mostly over land. Cainhursts have a real lack of fertile land). Until the Church of Light intervened and forced a truce. (Cainhurst Queen/Hinokah King. Birth of the Aetherian Empire) Players who go for a human can actually be a member of either family, or work for one. Or work for both. Or ignore them completely.
Speaking of the Church of Light: Actually got this one finished
The Church of Light is a quasi-religious militaristic organization operating across Aether, with its roots stemming from Meyneth’s army after the War of Cinder. An isolated and rather aloof group, the Church has spent the last two centuries within the fortress-city of Alcamoth and took little interest in the politics of the outside world - preferring instead to focus on the search and collection of pre-cinder artifacts and weapons. The Church has at its disposal a significantly powerful (if small) military, in the form of the fiercely loyal Paladins, substantial knowledge of the history of Aether as well as Arcane matters and control of the deadly Inquisitors - who are feared wherever they go.
The Church of Light recently broke their isolationism when dreams of Kolaghan’s return haunted everyone's sleep across Aether. They not only directly intervened in the bitter war between the Cainhurst and Hinokah families to force a peace treaty, but opened the great white gates of Alcamoth to the populace of Aether - creating a sizable safe haven for those willing to live under the Church’s stifling regime. Today, Alcamoth is the considered the Captial city of the newly born Aetherian Empire, and the Church is already planning to spread across the country - to prepare the land for what they believe is the inevitable second War of Cinders.

These families sound a great deal like Nohr and Hoshido from FE: Fates in both aesthetic style and the magical/samurai themes.

It's why the family is called Hinokah! Haha. I was struggling to come up with a neat concept for ages. The Cainhursts have been around for a while, but I suppose there are some Nohr parallels. Maybe it's coz I played Fire Emblem Warriors recently.

Basically I'm gonna have like 4 NPC family members on each side, and if a player wants to be a member of the family they can replace one.
Maybe max two on each side.
