Good stuff, I can imagine him being the child of two Paladins who earnestly wished for their son to wage holy war in protection of the Church; only to find that their child wishes for a war of reconciliation against those who have fallen into ignorance and those that have led them astray. Have people made characters already?

Yes. I have the best character, obviously. A thief pretending to be a real mage using magic tricks.

If you wanted to make it so they weren't quite so OP, you could just introduce a new element to the game that was super effective against griffons at the same time you introduced the mechanic of taming and riding one. Like some kind of sniper/mage monster that was relatively weak in most situations but could shoot down a griffon with high accuracy in one or two hits. Place said monsters anywhere you don't want people flying into too easily, like the tops of dangerous mountains and tall towers. As for combat, they'd be pretty effective there too, but if you introduced a type of weapon that was particularly effective against them (enchanted bows? special magic?) at the same time people started riding them, that would counteract them there as well.

I like this idea. We already have a character from Pai Chan that is fanatically devoted to the church and known to deal with non-believers by accusing them of heresy and blasphemy, dooming them to punishment. I expect this only makes people who have encountered her, or those like her, more feared and, consequently, the church secretly more hated.

Your guy seems like he'd be a bit more reasonable about it. Rather than accusing them outright of blasphemy, he might try befriend them instead and convince them over time that the church isn't actually that bad and, moreover, is the ultimate truth, that people ought to turn away from their sins, and dedicate themselves to the light.

In other words, your character can be the carrot and the other cleric can be the stick. Nice juxtaposition.

Some people are too quick to judge someone's sin and order to renounce their ways than to understand how that person became to act in such a way and how that may be rectified. I think I've found the perfect name for my guy, I'm going to call him 'Dominicanes'.

To be clear, the only "sin" the church is concerned with is
1) Are you rejecting the Gods. Coz, like, that's how the War happened.
2) Are you a vampire, werewolf or some sort of crazy Myrku Cultist? Coz we're probably gonna kill you.

Yes, that's exactly the sort of distinction I had in mind. It introduces a set of factions in the clerics based on how they think they ought to approach heresy and I really like the political dynamics that could lead to.

No doubt. There's no doubt extremists in the Church. I was thinking about some sort of cult within the Church actually. Lucina and Ulfric are very much moderates, she'd have enemies like every other leader.

Again, it is important to point out that the "holiness" of the church ain't what IRL Religions might consider Holy, They don't have a set of morals that people are supposed to follow, or commandments outside of "dudes don't fuck with evil forces, seriously. Don't make me kill you."
now there might be people who actually reject the Church as a whole - after all, they're in control. Only natural for some to buck authority. Church don't super care, again. It's only if you work against their interests. Lots of Dwarves favor Ancestor worship for example.

The main group who rejected the Church's Trinity are the Lumen - and they only did that coz their own God was rejected by the Church. Dunno about the Orcs.
